I hated BIO but his info is clear if you pay atten. and you should go to class.
Pretty easy class and lecture. Notes on blkboard. Test come from book.
good teacher, helpful and not hard.

He loves to hear himself talk.. class was extremely boring, and tests were hard.. ENOUGH SAID!
awesome teacher, I hate any science class, but he makes it interesting. One thing, go to class!!!
good professor. notes are on blackboard & he goes through the book before the tests and tells you what to study and what not to. very clear in all his teachings and doesnt talk to you like you're a bio major.
Farr was a gem to take over for the disaster we had for the first few weeks of bio I. He subbed once for said disaster, and it was the first time I'd learned anything in the course. I took him for bio II as well, and recommend him enthusiastically. He is clear, congenial, and very interesting.
He was a good professor. If you go to class and take notes the class is easy. He puts all the notes on blackboard too. He is really understanding and will help you if you need it.

He was and interesting teacher but test were hard.

Not easy, but not hard. He's kinda crazy. BUY THE BOOK. You need it for tests.

good teacher, awesome guy
If you go to class and print the notes out beforehand you will do fine. The first test i failed but i ended up with a B in the class!!
I found this class to be very difficult, even though the teacher is very helpful, hands out old tests and even marks the books to show you where to read. I just did not find myself learning inside class, I found him hard to follow and very boring. With ALOT of effort the class could be an easy B.
hard, but i made a b. he is a great bio. prof.
The first test was pretty easy, but the material after that became just way too hard to understand, no matter how hard he tried to explain it. Just read the book and do all the online tests and you can scrape by with an A.
he was a good prof, but there an abundance of info to be tested over. good class if you want to learn, but dont takek if you dont like to study
Great Teacher!!! His tests are not that hard because he repeats the same questions in the test. He explains the material really well and is straight forward in class.
Great additude, great guy, very funny. Take him if you want to laugh. Also, his tests are... hmm how should i put it. Long. BUT they arent hard if you study. :D
He is a damn good professor, he knows his stuff and makes it relate to your life... also he looks like Cornal Sandars... from KFC so thats always fun
Great teacher. Very interesting. I had dreaded Bio before taking his class. You have to show up to class and study but if you do, you've got a great shot at an A.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE him. He is great. Presents the material clearly and gives you practice test. Questions come straight off the practice exams, and he tells you what and how to read the book material. Also he usually drops the lowest exam grade. Last year, we didnt have to take the final if you were satified with your grade. LOVE HIM!!!
Best teacher ever. I had so much fun in this class. He made learning bio so much fun. He made a whole lot of powerpoint presentations and we just printed them off of blackboard and he went through them during class. That class was very easy and very interesting.
His class is super easy if you do well on the first 3 tests. There are only 4 tests and he drops the lowest test grade, he gives you a review for the first 3 but not for the final so do well on the first 3. It's pretty easy but you have to study!!!
Fairly interesting class and he does a good job teaching in the huge teaching theaters, which tends to be difficult for many professors.
His syllabus says that we won't be responsible for every single page of every assigned chapter for the test, but when he goes over what pages we need to know for the test, he lists every single page separately! So you have to read every chapter for the test. The book isn't an easy read unless you have a pretty good interest in Biology.
that is true, the syllabus says only 10% of test material comes from textbook - this is simply not true. feels like 90% textbook and 10% lecture on tests. be prepared to read.
Farr is the professor to take for bio if you can get him he is so awesome and kills a live frog and drinks him right in class. They're just cells.
lectures aren't very interesting at all & they help very little on tests. reading, old tests, & online tests are best prep for exams. you will have to work for your grade. class isn't hard... i recommend.
his lectures were VERY interesting. however, almost none of it was on the test. in fact -- maybe if i had just avoided lecture and studied i could have made a better grade -- or not. i studied like a MANIAC and only made a high B. useless to attempt an A -- it was never going to happen. although many like him...
Enjoyed his class but didn't agree with some of the views/beliefs he had. Brought up very contraversial issues but only showed one side to them. Study the previous semester test!! He will give some curve points and bonus points. Show up to class and you should do fine!! Buy the online access code - it does help don't bother with the root word book
Great teacher. Makes you interested in biology. Tests are okay if you do the review and read the textbook. You are able to receive 3 points on your average if you do the online tests. He drops your lowest test grade. I would definitely recommend this teacher.
Good professor. Don't make this class harder than it needs to be by reading the book. To make an A, find the answers on the review and they're basically exactly the same on the test, except for the 3rd test (remember that).
Dr. Farr is extremely intelligent, and he wants all his students to do well. If you want an A, DO THE REVIEWS. They are almost word for word test questions and you get bonus points for them. Real easy, entertaining, I recommend.
really nice guy. wants his students to do well and is there to help you. study book at powerpoints for test and you'll do fine.
This class was GREAT! I took him for bio 1310 and it was just as easy as 1421. For some reason though, I enjoyed 1421 more than 1320, the only thing that may hurt or effect your grade would be the lab grade, other than that GREAT professor!
My favorite teacher!! the class was easy and he tries really hard to make the class interesting. he gives you a review which is exactly like the test. and he gives extra credit. the lab will hurt you the most.
Farr is awesome. I really worked hard for my grade. He made biology interesting and I had a blast in this class. all resources are there for you to study, its all a matter of comprehending the material. This is college so dont go in with the mentality of D's get Degree's. He truely loves his field and I commend him for that. Awesome teacher!!!
FARR ROCKS MY WORLD!
Overrated. Lectures are boring and often times gross. All of the information you need is on the slides, and for the most part he simply reads them. Didn't find him interesting and inspiring. Tests only cover the hardest material of every chapter. Plus, all the people with test banks will piss you off because they'll make A's without studying.
not an easy class by any means but if you keep up with the work and read the book you should do okay. the kind of class where you get what you put into it. he's very helpful and nice though. he curved my 89.3!
Farr is really nice, but do not take his 8am class he has a habit of yelling to get the class attention if they do not respond to his questions. You do have to study but he gives you ample resources to do so. If you study there is no reason why you shouldn't at least make a B and possibly an A.
I'm surprised there aren't any comments yet. The class is fairly easy; he tells you everything he wants on the tests and there are TA review sessions the night before. This being said, I really didn't like the guy, and he was kind of a jerk if you didn't know what he was talking about. If you study for the tests you'll make an A; not enjoyable
Farr is a GREAT teacher. He makes Biology (which is pretty freaking dull) more interesting and possible to understand if you suck at sciences. He gives you lots to study for the tests, so if you study hard and use every one of the resources he gives you you'll probably make a B in the class. Attendance is mandatory as required by the department, bu
This professor uses his text book for both his BIO 1320 and BIO 1421 classes. You can reuse and not buy another one. Also a large majority of his material is from the book. Before each test you bring it to class and he will tell you which sections to focus on when you study. Also the text is not difficult to understand. It's worth it to read!
I took him for 1320 and 1421 and I think he's great. The class isn't that easy but if you study you'll pass. You get what you put in to it. oh and GO TO CLASS!!! After so many absences you fail. He actually cares if you pass so he gives lots of opportunity to pass and tries to make you understand everything.
Just finished up Bio 1320 and it was pretty tough for me. I am not good in science and didn't have a lot of time to sutdy but I pulled off a B. GO TO CLASS and even if you bomb a couple of the tests your attendance and "clicker" points will pull you through! Very nice guy!
Dr. Farr is a great lecturer and has an incredible knowledge base. I once again love biology because of him. Go to class and take notes. Most importantly, read all the assigned readings and old tests that he gives students; they make up 60-70% of his tests and the rest will come from the text, which he will mark before the test.
He's a good professor. He tries to make it interesting and does a fairly good job coming from someone who doesn't like the subject. Go to class and get the attendance points that count for like 15% of the grade or something. He drops the lowest test grade, so if you're happy with your grade you don't have to take the final, which I found great.
This is a really hard class, but Farr makes it do-able. He gives you plenty of resources before the test. Study the practice & online tests & you should do fine. Go to class & use your CPS Responder! It bumped my grade from a low C to a high B!
I surprisingly ended up really enjoying this class. He really makes the material interesting and entertaining. He has great slides, videos, and stories to help you learn the material. He gives out old test, extra credit test, and holds a review session. I easily made an A by reading the text book and studying the notes. He is a great professor!
Easy teacher. Just do the practice exam, and the extra credit exam. He tells you EXACTLY what to read in the textbook, and the final is optional. Although there are five tests, he drops the lowest test grade!
Can barely understand! Tests are SOO hard! I used to like Bio, now I hate going to class and having to read all the time. I would stay away!
Subject is hard and Powerpoint slides (which can be printed) are really jumbled and hard to understand without taking notes on them, BUT I've learned that paying attention is practically useless because his practice test is practically the exact same as the real test, so getting an A is simple. Too bad attendance is mandatory...
Easy class. Because I took him twice I knew how the class was run, so honestly I didn't pay attention a single day in lecture. You dont have to. Read the book to learn the material, he gives a practice test before each exam that basically IS the exam. Hes funny though and makes class interesting when you actually do listen ;)
He tells you exactly what to study for tests and gives you last years test to study from. Very interesting and always has good stories!
Great Professor !! Extremely helpful
very good professor! never liked biology until i took him and now i actually enjoy getting up at 8 in the morning for his class, no reason why you should fail. his tests are simple, he basically gives you the test in his reviews.
I was not looking forward to another biology class because my professor for 1320 was terrible. I am very pleased with Farr, however. He uses powerpoint during his lectures, he goes through each chapter before the exam to mark sections that are most important to study, and he provides sample and extra credit exams. I highly recommend!
Dr. Farr reminds me of my gradpa he's so cute you just want to put him in your pocket! His class is fairly easy, I would recommend going and then you only have to skim over the textbook and LEARN the reviews he gives you before the test! I actually started liking bio after I took his class and believe me I hate all sciences! Take him!
Farr is amazing. He made a huge difference in my grade. Lots of extra credit and help before test to prepare. I would recommend him to anyone taking biology especially if it is difficult for you.
Farr is a great lecturer. He can get off topic sometimes, but he covers everything on the tests in the notes. He provides lots of extra resources if you need them also.
Farr was an awesome professor. He was funny and he kept things interesting. Fairly easy class as long as you study. He also gave us extra credit for attendance and gave us reviews which helped a lot.
He's not that great of a teacher. But it's easy to get an A in his class because 80% of what's on the 100 QUESTION TEST you've seen before in practice exams, extra credit exams, and masteringbio. Try and pay attention in class (though it's hard) because some of the random things he says will be on the test. Mandatory attendance and assigned seats.
Farr is a great, I would recommend him to anyone. He is funny & gives extra credit for attendance. He gives practice exams, extra credit exams, and gives you back your old tests to study for the final. Definitely take him if you need this class!
Prof Farr is a great teacher. he goes out of his way to help students make the best grade possible..if you need to take bio try and take him. his class can get alittle boring sometimes but thats obvious its bio. fairly easy A with alittle studying
Easy to get a good grade if you go to class and do the Mastering Biology assignments. Dr. Farr had good presentations and was very fair with grades he gave out.
Not incredibly difficult. I never payed attention in class. Don't miss class too much, but don't feel like you need to go to every one. I got a B and all I did was study the practice test's before tests and the extra credit. Good luck
Great professor! I would definitely recommend him. He gives you old tests to study for the exams and he gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities. He is also really good at explaining things. If you actually study and attend class then it is an easy A.
He is the best prof. I have ever had! As long as you sit near the front its easy to pay attention. some people tend to fall asleep cause theres over 300 people in the class but he is so interesting and teaches in a way that relates to your life and makes you care about what you are learning. I am taking him again for bio 2 and i would recommend him
I hate most hard sciences, Biology especially. However, Professor Farr teaches in a very accessible manner, so that even an English major can understand. He does have a tendency to "talk down" to the class, and his "Come on, y'all" can get a little repetitive, but overall he's great. Definitely read the textbook and take the practice quizzes.
Farr is a cute grandpa, he makes it interesting and he's funny and very interactive, he Wants u to understand but his test are hard so study well, notes in class don't help so just listen to lecture and read book and online really helps, attendance mandatory!
Great professor! You have to do all the work and study practice he assigns, but if you do, you should get an A. He makes the subject interesting and is really funny. Definitely take him!
This class wasn't too bad (considering it's biology). I'd basically just go to class most days and study the night before and I made a B. It wouldn't be too hard to make an A if you tried. Dr. Farr is real nice and he's got a cute sense of humor :)
He has been teaching the same class for 42 years.. and it shows. His methods are out of date, his jokes are lame, and his attitude is demeaning to anyone above the age of 5 years old. If you have him, transfer out before the first test. Otherwise prepare to be talked down to all semester. BUY the textbook!
Who cares if his jokes are old? He is the easiest biology teacher I have ever had. He completely gets the fact that people have to take this class just for their major. His tests are exactly like the practice tests online and go to class! He gives extra points for attendance and clicker responses. Take him!
If you suck at science like I do this class is still pretty hard. Studied pretty hard but still made low grades, go to class to get points for attendence, do pre-tests for extra credit, and try and make good grades on homework. I struggled but he's the easiest at TSU for BIO so take him.
I'm not the science type of person but this class taught me a lot of interesting things about viri and protists and animals and such! His jokes are corny but hes OLD,GET OVER IT.The tests are almost exactly like the pre tests. I would suggest reading the book to get an A,if not just the practice test will get you straight B's.Over all an okay class.
Professor Farr is a great teacher. It's hard to pay attention if you hate bio, but easy to get an A if you read each chapter. He gives study guides for the first three tests and there is a review for them the night before each test. The lab is HARD but I made an A by studying before the midterm and test.
Great teacher. I actually understood what he was talking about. I will be taking him again (: Shouldn't have bought the book though. He tells you specifically what is going to be on the test.
He is a great teacher!! You do not need to buy the physical textbook because there is one online. There is homework but it is easy and you don't even have to have completely read the chapter. Test are pretty easy and he gives a ton of extra credit. His class helps make the labs easier b/c you are always talking about the same stuff. Easy class!
Professor Farr is a great teacher. Made me love biology and I've always hated science. He makes the class fun and if you do the homework, xtra credit and read you'll pass with flying colors
I'm taking this class right now, he is a great professor! He gives so many extra credit opportunities!! Get the Mastering Biology account and complete those assignments, purchase and use the Student Responder clicker, attendance is mandatory and purchase the book! Labs are easy if you study. Take Farr!!
Take this prof! TONS of extra credit opportunities. The final can be dropped. Old tests are posted on TRACS before each test that are 90% of the test you will take. He gave our class 5 extra points on each test. If you do the online assignments and look at the old tests before you take each test, you'll get at least a B. Very easy class.
Awesome professor!!!!!! Alot of extra credit opportunities, online tests and 5 exams (last is FINAL) and be ready for a lot of note-taking, class is normally huge so attendance is considered participation and you'll be give credit for that towards your final grade. Book is mandatory! TAKE HIM!!!!!
You have to have a CPS responder for class participation everyday which is mandatory and results in a portion of your grade. He gives reviews for each class but does not give you the answers for them. He does have a review for each exam. And his final is optional.
He made the classes interesting. He gave practice tests online and most of the questions were on the real test! It was an extremely easy class.
Does he need another good review on here? No. But I'm giving him another anyway because I've never seen a professor with a class of 300 students actually manage to keep their attention the way he does, ESPECIALLY about such a dry subject. He clearly has a passion for education.
Before I took this class I HATED bio. But Farr is a great teacher. He made lectures funny & he makes things easy to understand. Tells you exactly what you need to know for the test plus a practice exam that's resembles the real test a little. Take him he's awesome.
Best professor by far! I learned so much this year!
Good teacher, lots of experience, but talks too fast, and sometimes unclear. There is way too much information in this class to be crammed in to one semester, and I think he does the best with what he has. Does require a textbook, online assignment subscription (masteringbiology) and a clicker for in-class assignments.
Funny and engaging as a lecturer. One on one he can be a bit rude. I don't care for BIO and didn't take notes, yet I did well because tests are memorize/regurgitate multi choice. He makes it easy to get a decent grade w ex credit, practice tests. Thought it would be much harder. Skipping hurts participation grade (7%). Oh, teaching theater is COLD!
Extremely helpful, engaging, and clear - all you have to do is show up. Applies bio to real life, which helps material stick. Ample ops to boost your grade, and labs are fun. Employs multiple teaching styles to help a variety of different kinds of learners. He's funny and loves to teach. TAKE FARR!! :o)
Definitely get the textbook. If you read the textbook and keep up with the mastering bio then you will do just fine. A lot of the questions from the homework are used on the exams.
class is awesome, i was horrible at biology before, but he really helped me learn a lot, you must follow along with power points and study hard but if your horrible at bio take this class you will pass!
Go to class and do the mastering biology home work!
Farr is VERY knowledgable in the subject. He makes class very interesting and he'll talk about real life examples that you can relate to. Overall, I have learned so much in these past 2 months in his class. Highly recommend!
He made biology easy and he is a cool guy. Will remind you of your stereotypical grandpa they way he tells stories. He relates biology to everyday situations making biology more interesting. He also drops the lowest test grade which helps a lot and there is plenty of extra credit. Definitely taking him next semester although it is an 8 am
Good teacher, very nice and helpful man. Class is mandatory and the final is optional (replaces the lowest test grade). HW is online and easy and tests are just like the study guides he gives.
Farr is by far the worst professor I had in my entire college career at Texas State. Don't take him.
He's a really cool guy. Loves the subject he's teaching so he tries to make it as interesting as possible. Yes biology might not be the most interesting thing and he certainly can have his boring days, but just do the online homework and the exam reviews and it won't be so bad.
Hard class no matter who you take but Farr is the best. Use Quizlet and Study Blue. Complete all online work and pay close attention to online due dates. Must purchase an electronic clicker for pop quizzes at the beginning and end of class so be on time.
best teacher I had wish he stayed another year
You have to go to class! He does random questions before and at the end of most classes that count towards your final grade. Also, do the practice tests he gives you because thats whats mainly on the test. You have online homework probably 3 times a month. and he has 3 extra credit tests. Final isnt mandatory.
Make sure to study for test. They are essential to doing well in the class
