His tests are TRICKY because it has double meanings. There's like at least two possible answers but only ONE is the best answer. eeerr. beware.
I took economics in highschool and hated it. Prof. Guile made economics fun and made sure the tests and material were not to difficult to follow. The test were multiple choice and easy. You would have to be pretty dumb or lazy and never study at all not to get a B. I got a fairly easy A. Easiest and funniest Eco. Teacher at SCC!
Prof. Geile is a great economics teacher. His teaching style is so amazing that I enrolled in his micro class this semester. He really knows economics. He doesn't use a book or any notes when he teaches. Make sure you attend the days there is a quiz. He drops the two lowest grades. And study for his final!!
Anyone who says his class is easy is lying. His lectures aren't bad, but he doesn't teach everthing you need to know for the test so you really really really have to read the book(I cant stress this enough). And his test are extremly tricky and not as straight forward as other social science classes like a psych class. Like a previous person sai
most boring teacher ever! he has no fashion sense, always uses a green marker, makes the stupidest hand gestures and will let you know if he doesnt like you!
I agree with the comment below. If you want to pass Economics do not take this guy; BEWARE. Doesn't prepare you for his extremly hard and almost impossible to pass test
This class was crazy! I'm a very good student and managed to get A's in 3 of my other classes (calc, chem, accounting) but barely pulled off a C in this class. Lectures are long and kinda boring and he doesn't go over problems in class that he has assigned. Take Microecon with another professor if you can.
What to say about Geile? Should of realized on the first day of class when he introduced himself with a one syllable name Gei-le that he wasn't the best source of knowledge. I took both Micro and macro with this guy(same semester) and got a B in one and C in the other. First C in college went to him. I took more challenging classes than his. No go
For sure knows a LOT about subject but does not work hard enough to include students in lectures. He literally talks the entire period and then gives practice exams that have little to do with test. Study worksheets he gives instead!!! Curves grades and offers extra credit otherwise class would be doing poorly.
Worst Teacher ever.... Everything he teaches is not on the test i would never take him again WORST TEACHER
He knows Economics very well. But there are NO CLASSROOM DISCUSSIONS...all he did was lecture for 3 hours STRAIGHT each night!! but if you work hard, study, and read you can get an A
he is cool
worst teacher alive doesnt have test reviews his lectures dont make sense talks the whole period and is just overall not a good teacher wouldnt wish this teacher on my worst enemies
Really knows economics but has difficulty teaching it. You can tell he was a nerd in high school and expects kids to already know everything before signing up for the class. No in class discussions just lectures from the time class starts until it ends. If you have to sign up for him stick with the class because you might be like ur final grade
I took this class at SCC because I withdrew from it at UCF main campus. Mr. Geile made it MUCH EASIER. I don't know why everyone rips on Mr. Geile so much. I got away practically with murder in his class. His tests are really hard, and he gives a lot of quizzes you need to be there for, but he's super nice and understanding. Gives lots of extra c
he talk like elmer fudd very hard 2 understand. test very hard. twitches alot very annoying. no style.
Very nice guy. Took him for both Macro and Micro, but Very boring class. Very hard exams. Very hard Quizzes. only able to pull off a C and im a A B student. He was the only one teaching the class so i had to take him. overall, i hated the class.
cannot understand lectures. no homework. exams dont match lectures or book. no reviews. sylabus no help to know where he's at. doesn't off on weird tangents that don't relate to anything at all. would not recommand this class to anyone needing an easy teacher for macro eco.
Class is a simple theory dump. Just learn the theory behind the economics and you will do well. I got a B but held an A until the last two tests. It is hard to pay attention and he can put you to sleep. Economics is a dry subject anyway though and he does try. Tests are completely off the notes but you do have to understand theory. curved test
boring class verrryyyy Hard TEST has a quiz every class and they r very HARD would never take teacher again. Also never lets u out on time keeps u 5 minutes late every class WARNING STAY AWAY FROM Gerald Geile HE IS THE WORST ECONOMICS TEACHER EVER.
WORST TEACHER EVER TEST ARE VERY HARD CLASS LECTURES ARE USELESS DONT LEARN ANYTHING IN CLASS DRAWS LOTS OF NOTHING ON THE BOARD THAT U CANT UNDERSTAND THIS SEMESTER THE CLASS AVERAGE WAS A 50 WITCH WAS POSTED ON ANGEL. HE GIVES 10 POINT CURVES THAT DONT EVEN GIVE YOU A C STAY AWAY!! ONLY POST ANOUNCEMENTS ON ANGEL POST GRADES ON ANGEL.
worst teacher ever stay away from. very hard to understand you wont learn anything
He's not as bad as many of these posts make him out to be. He's not the greatest teacher but he's decent. He's VERY nice and also lenient. Yes, class drags to the last possible second, yes quizes & tests aren't easy, & yes theres homework on ANGEL but for being a college level course it could be much harder!!
I think of myself as a pretty good student with a 3.75, but this teacher was hard for me. He does not use useful economic examples, and his tests will KILL you! I would suggest ONLY if you have one or two classes on your plate or do not work full-time. Also if you are a grammer freak like me, his word usage is HORRIBLE!
pretty good teacher. yes sometimes his examples dotn make too much sense. but he grades homework reasonably, and there is usually enough extra credit give to help you on the test. class is boring but he usually gives extra cerdit for just being there. i took this teacher for macro and am gonna take him again for micro
His tests & quizzes are tough, but he is a good teacher. He explains things but sometimes tends to be a bit boring. Always available to clarify a point after/before class or via ANGEL. WARNING: Check his ANGEL site often! Gives essays/current events that help bring your grade up.
Horrible professor. Tests are very hard and does not go along with syllabus at all. Lectures straight the entire time and examples have nothing to do with what he is teaching. Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had at SCC!
Mr Geile looks exactly like Wallace Shawn from the Princess Bride. If you're not an economics/business major, his lectures are rather boring, so it's fun to imagine him saying "inconceivable!" The class is nowhere as bad as his ratings seem. I got a B with no studying and I didn't open the textbook once. Take notes and it's all good.
The easiest class I've ever taken in college. Make sure to keep up with reading, and take notes in class, & check ANGEL on a daily basis-- his notes on there are very helpful. I don't understand how a person could do bad in this class, it's so easssy!
Easy class! Pay attention to lectures! I got an A and I did not even purchase the book! Study from Study Guides, it helps!! He does weird movements. But he is a very nice Professor! I enjoyed his class and learned a lot of things that are useful in life! You should deff take him!
His tests are way too hard.
This Professor is great exactly what you would expect from a college teacher, take notes and pay attention and if you have a problem he keeps his office hours to really help you. I have never looked at the book and I have an A. Just pay attention. Simple.
He gives extra credit just for attending class. If you go to class take notes on lectures and do the work there is no reason you shouldnt get an A. I never used the book and hardly studied:just went to class and took notes and got an A.
If you go to class and listen to the teacher you will pass.
HE IS VERY CLEAR AT EXPLAINING THINGS. MIGHT BE REPETITIVE BUT THE POINTS HE WANTS TO GET ACROSS ARE WELL UNDERSTOOD. I GOT A B WITH MINIMAL EFFORT. EXELLENT TEACHER.
His lectures go on forever and it gets a little boring but if you take notes and go to every class you will pass and probably with an A
Overall what people are saying is concise. Take notes and you will do fine. That being said, incredibly dry and hard to stay awake through the never ending lectures. Make sure you constantly check angel, won't tell you about assignments posted there. As long as you know this you will be fine.
Overall an okay teacher. Lectures are boring, but hes there to help you if you have trouble understanding. I never cracked the book and ended up with a B. TAKE GOOD NOTES and try to stay awake, and you'll have no problem passing
Very boring class. I took it early in the morning and i couldnt stay awake. He has alot of body language. He walks around an talks alot. Most of his concepts he doesnt go into detail just reads the power point
I will never take this professor again. Has a distracting speech impediment. Talks about a simple subject for 30 minutes. He is a nice guy, just not in the right career.
Ok he is a nice guy and definitely willing to help you. But the lectures are unbearable.. seriously you will want to die. The work/quizzes are somewhat easy but the tests are impossible! And I studied a lot. If you're not an economics major, I DO NOT recommend taking this class with him...
Mr. Geile is nice but he is not a very good teacher. His lectures are almost unbearable. He says the same thing over and over and over agian. Tests are impossible but quizzes and essays are super easy. I wouldn't recommend anyone take him. If you do, get ready to shoot yourself.
I'm a little biased because I am terrible at economics and really dislike the subject, but this class really didn't help. The quizzes are very easy, but the tests are almost the opposite. He reads right from the PPT and tends to repeat himself. He's very enthusiastic and honestly a nice guy. Just not a good mix with this class...
HORRIBLE. One of the worst teachers in the world. Makes you want to gouge out your eyeballs listening to his lectures. Tests are almost impossible because they are in his own words and not from the textbook. But he tells you to read the textbook to study. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS GUY!! You've been warned.
He cannot teach at all....
This is a terrible class to take. I have had a 4.0 all my life until i got to this class. The teacher just gives long pointless lectures that dont make sense. Even if you read all the chapters and do the reviews you still won't be able to pass the tests. The tests are ridiculously hard. Dont take this class!!
Omg absolutely horrific. I am in the honors program but barely am passing. This teacher has impossible tests And there is a cumulative exam which you can forget about passing He talks so annoying and pauses after every word so forget about trying to listen. He makes things 10x harder than what they are everyone in my class is failing
If you care about your GPA do not take his class. Everyone's comments on here are true. I don't understand how if SSC is going to grow how they are going to keep him aboard. His tests are impossible, unless you are an economics master mind. There is so much info & he doesnâ??t narrow it down by giving a review. He makes it so complicated.
I took his class as advanced. All I can say is WOW. Just when you got the right answer on his test, then turns out its not. Failed all 3 of his test and still passed by doing extra credit and doing all his assignment essays. Do his practice exam, don't memorize them just understand why those are the correct answers. GOOD LUCK! You'll need it.
I took Mr. Geile for Macro Econ. He made the subject very easy to understand. He is animated and goes over the material multiple times to make sure it sinks in. Economics can be a very boring subject, he makes it very easy to understand and pass. Easy A.
MicroEconomics. Great teacher, explains things very well and repeats things to help you remember. Doesn't give a lot of work, only 1 essay a month BUT the class is crazy hard. Tests are almost impossible to pass (he frequently curves them) and it's hard to bring up your grade because he gives so few assignments. If you don't have to take it DON'T!
This is a difficult class, however Prof. Geile goes through great lengths to make sure that the material is covered in the lectures. I find them very helpful. In fact I never cared about econ before & now I understand how it translates to real life that to Pro Giles examples. True the tests are brutal, but there is plenty of extra material on Sakai
Very easy class! I only wrote the notes in class because it helped me remember for the tests, but all class notes are posted on Sakai. The essays are very short and simple with clear instructions. He is very friendly and breaks everything down very easily. Should be an easy A.
Great professor. If you write down what he puts on the board and read the book it's an easy A.
Even though I received a B in the class, he was still very easy to understand. And no you don't need to be an economics mastermind to understand anything. I didn't exactly show too much interest in the class as it has no relation to my major however had I actually tried, (and given anyone puts the effort), this class is an easy A.
You know when you are trying to write a paper and start to fluff the paper up by saying the same thing over and over just in different ways.... that's how his lectures are. He is a nice guy though. my final grade was a 69.87... he rounded it up to a 70. so passed the class with a C... which i was okay with.
Imagine listening to the "Bueller, Bueller, Bueller" professor. That's what Geile's lectures are like (very monotone). The textbook is a MUST to understand the concepts. His tests are HARD, but if you study you can still pull a C on them. Not the best professor, but he's tolerable.
The best of the best. I passed. Take him
Geile's class was by no means an easy grade. He is very thorough and knowledgeable. He does expect you to read and review at home and you will have quizzes about once a week. Would take this professor again.
These reviews on here seem absolutely ridiculous to me. Look, if you enjoy learning and take college with even the slightest seriousness, you will appreciate Professor Geile. If you want to learn Economics, take him and you will not regret it. He is very knowledgeable, however, if you want to coast with an easy A, this is not the class for you
Great man. Determined for you to learn. Dont sleep in his class its rude. Gave me an extra oppertunity and am eternally greatful. Hard class. If your in it for the easy A dont take. If you want to learn everything there is to know about Macro Economics and are willing to risk the A+ take him.
Geile is great! He expects you to read and know the book, but that is expected since we are in college. His lectures are a little dry but he is very helpful and really knows his stuff. Attendance and homework are extra credit so there is no reason to fail the class. Highly recommend for anyone who is in need of a good econ professor.
Very tough course. Expected to read and basically teach yourself. His lectures are long and he leaves out important information. He gives quizzes every week and tests are hard. I took him for Micro and Macro and regretted it BOTH times. It is not the course but definitely the teacher. Nice guy but really needs to improve his lectures.
has quizzes but lets you know in advance. found his lectures informative and really helps you grasp the material and you can tell he gets into them as well. the tests aren't too bad and the econlab homework is optional but is there for extra credit, which helps. would recommend him and taking him again for MICRO.
You'll learn so much and everything there is to know about economics. I was interested in economics, but now I'm way more interested because I took his class. Yes there are usually quizzes every week, but do all the other assignments, read the text and his notes, and study for the tests. Do the extra credit. Got a B! Would take again.
Real college level professor. Gives great lectures to help you understand the material; has good sense of humor as well. However, the exams are full of tricky questions, easy to think you got an A on them and really get a C. Assigns four easy essays, hard not to get 100s on those. Also gives extra credit through homework and class attendance.
If you actually read the textbook, you will find is lectures very repetitive & wasteful. He'll spend entire classes talking about 1 basic term that takes only a little to grasp. Also, The homework is REQUIRED, some of it counts as extra credit but all being required. Liked the course, just personally wasn't a fan of the professor.
He does fluff his lectures, he'll repeat the same thing over and over again in just different ways which was such a waste of time. Tests are tricky. Don't expect to do well on tests or quizzes if you just refer to lecture notes. I was a student interested in the course and wanting to maintain a high GPA and this class was rough. Would not recommend
Horrible professor! Quizzes are hard. Tests are even harder. Instead of reviewing for the test the day before the test he goes over new material. His notes are not helpful at all. DO NOT recommend taking him for MARCO or MICRO.
I'd stay away from this guy! He's super nice but this class is ridiculous. We have a month left in the semester, and I'm barely holding onto a B. His tests KILL your grade if you get below a C and they're NOT EASY. Very tricky, all multiple choice. He does give EC for attendance and HW, also easy A's on the 4 500wrd essays. If you take him, GL!
Quizzes are easy, essays are easy, tests are INSANE. Ive gotten 100% on everything and get Cs on tests and its not enough to get an A. Quizzes are 15 pts, hw and essays are 15 pts as well. Tests are 100 points and kill your grade if you don't do so hot since they are worth so many points. Would not recommend if you're trying to get a high GPA.
Good professor as far as his knowledge on the subject but slightly boring. i found myself nodding off to sleep in class although class was reasonably short. Test are freaking hard also not on quizlet. he offers extra credit but doesnt really help much unless you average a passing grade for all 4 exams. If only he could make economics more exciting
I ended the class with a 99.6 but this is because my minor is economics and it comes very easy to me. About half the class failed every test because you cannot just rely on the lecture notes. If you don't understand economics easily you MUST read the book and put in the work. His lectures aren't very clear but he has good intentions.
I cannot stress enough of how much youll need to work in order to get a good grade in his class. Hes very knowledgeable, but so knowledgeable his tests are quite challenging in the end. He assigns quizzes, four easy 500 word essays, and EC on homework and attendance. He also curves his grade scale so a 78 is considered a B. Do not ignore the EC
He rambles on in class and is very boring, makes it hard to pay attention unless you're actually interested in the subject. There are 4, 500 word essays you'll have to write that are super easy, 4 tests which are very hard, and a ton of quizzes. He gives extra credit for attendance and doing the homework that you get from an access code on the book
Great guy, loves teaching about economic. Will keep you engaged thought the semester.
He is very clear about what is expected of you during the semester. Likes to lecture but gives you most of what you need to know for the tests. If you read the book and do the homework, which is all extra credit, you will pass easily. You have to write 4 papers but they are only 500 words each. I wish he taught more classes that I need to take.
His lectures are long and boring but he tries to make it entertaining. He has study guides on canvas and they are a lot like the actual tests. Homework and attendance is extra credit. The four 500 word essays are mandatory. His tests are really hard if you don't use the study guides.
Geile does well at making economics enjoyable, it's a lengthy, hard subject and unless you're interested in social sciences, this class maybe dull just because you're not interested in it. Geile (Guy-L) is pretty transparent when he comes to what he wants, just do your work, take notes, read the book and you'll do great.
Professor Geile really cares about his students and tries to make this class enjoyable. Lectures are long and sometimes hard to stay focused on. He will use every minute of class. Just take notes, read the chapters he gives you, and do the connect homework and you will do fine in his class.
BE CAREFUL. I took this professor based on his reviews with hopes of doing well. That was not the case. Due dates are not consistent with the day and time things are due. I struggled to maintain a C in this class. The assignments and exams are two completely different concepts. This is Mcgraw Hill's fault though, not Geile's.
Nice guy. His class is so boring but he tries to make it interesting.
I struggle in this subject and still passed, he is a very lenient grader with essays, i got 100s on all of them. If you show up, pay attension and study you'll pass. His lectures are long and boring but if you show up take notes and study for tests you'll be fine. He cares a lot about his students, i'd take him again
Quizzes every week that have nothing to do with the notes and very very hard tests.
Professor Geile is dorky, and his lectures can be pretty boring. So bring some caffeine with you. He genuinely cares for his students and hes very thorough in his lectures. Keep up with the reading, do the homework, and come to class every day and youll have no problem passing.
The amount of work he gives is insane. The first week he assigned over two and a half hours of video lectures to watch. In addition to that it took me over 2 hours to get through the chapter reading, and all of this was paired with class assignments and homework. Save yourself the withdraw and take this class either in person or with someone else.
The worl is really easy and there isn't much of it. He is also a easy grader on essays
This teacher could make time slow down to a crawl on any day of the week, if it weren't for the fact that I slept through his classes. If you're good at following graphs and social sciences, skimming his lectures is easy. Be warned, there are three REQUIRED informal essays, and he does NOT provide assignment due-dates ahead of time.
Professor Geile is a fantastic professor. There is a lot of reading, but the textbook structures the information creatively, without being overwhelming. He requires 3-4 essays, but on an article of your choosing. He responds fast and gives great feedback. Super understanding. I chose to take him for both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics.
Bro his handwriting sucks, good luck
I am doing environmental studies and had to take micro. I am not good at it but his class is fine, it's just important to read the notes and do the homework but the exams can be hard, to be honest. He is nice and really knows his stuff. The ratings say he is bad or OK but he isnt bad, just its boring :/ but hey not too difficult :)
The most engaged online professor I've had. Some lectures felt redundant but happy to have any lectures at all in an online class. Most of the work is easy if you get it. If you can gasp a concept and put together 500 coherent words then the 3 essays are a cinch. Exams are very concept heavy and final grade is massively skewed towards exams scores.
Professor Geile is an overall funny teacher who doesn't make you want to sleep during lectures. He also spends a lot of time writing feedback for your 3 essays (which I like because it makes me feel like my work wasn't purely for a grade). Your lowest exam grade is dropped (so technically the final is optional). Would take again.
Prof. Geile was a great professor to take in my first semeter of economics, and I took him for Macroeconomics. His class was fairly easy other than the bulk of the work which was alot of textbook reading. His grading was super clear and there is an extra credit exam at the end of the year to substitue for another test grade. Thanks Prof. Geile!
LOTS of textbook reading. There are 3 essays that aren't very difficult (500-1000 words). He has pretty clear criteria and isn't a harsh grader. He gives lots of resources, which is good for an online class. The final was optional, and it can replace your lowest test grade.
I have been out of school since 2017 but I took Professor Geile's class back in 2012 as part of dual enrollment coursework. Before taking this class, I was thinking I would do aerospace engineering, but his lectures and explanations were so great and articulated economics in such a way that I was inspired to work in finance. He is amazing
Professor Guile changed the course of my whole career with his inspiring and engaging lectures in Economics. I'll never forget it... its been 12 years but he changed my entire destiny and what I would be doing for a career.
Prof. Geile's class was a mixed bag - he has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the course isn't too difficult. The workload can be heavy, but Unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, a decent class.
