this guy is so lazy...he doesn't teach and expects so much from his students
Poor interaction with TA and students, an awful waste of money
His exams are easy!
He's fun, but doesnt teach you anything thats on the test, just blabs on...
Giddy but all over the placex
lazy with teaching.. blabs from text.
boring, reads from text, little to no need to go to class, easy tests!
nice personality although lectures are a bit tedious
Gerry is awesome, loves his field
Funny guy, creative too! Plays the guitar lol...Excellent to boost your GPA
funny
good teacher - fair tests - very funny
What a guy! Professor Goldberg enjoys teaching. He's very passionate about his work, and this passion rubs off on everyone else in the classroom. I definitely look forward to his classes every week.

Nice guy but he blahs out of the textbook. No use of going to lectures.
lecture could be a lot more interesting. He reads from the text and that bothers me. I don't even need to go!
Pretends to be funny but in truth is awfully rude to the people in the class. Tests were quite easy but straight out from the book thus lectures are useless.
Does a nice Woody Allen routine. The people who complain about him are the ones he threw out of the class for talking non-stop. Two thumbs up.
Nice guy, but cannot teach. Enough said.
A word of advice, if you are interested in taking first year Psyc with this guy...don't. Any interest you have in the subject will be gone by the end of the course. He cannot teach and he does not stimulate any interest whatsoever.
People, you come to university to pay attention, so stop complaining about how he can't stimulate learning and what not. I enjoyed his class, and his kicking people out of the class was always humorous!
He replaced Professor McCann in my Intro to Psych class, and from the lectures I went to, was trying to be a poor man's version of McCann. Not a very entertaining lecturer, which does matter (especially in a 3 hour lecture), University or not.
Nice man but horrible lecturer. Also, not at all understanding of personal issues. He is rude and not at all approachable outside of class. (ie. through e-mail)
good guy. Tries his best to entertain and teach. Not a very difficult course, tests are fair.
Okay, he is a nice guy. But as teacher, he cannot convey the material clearly at all. Lectures were useless with the exception of videos. The role of a good professor is to STIMULATE LEARNING and he does not.
He's a nice guy and pretty interesting too though he does tend to ramble. Very approachabke though and he really curved the final exam up even though marjs were already pretty good ;)
He was one of the worst Profs I’ve ever had the misfortune of being taught by. He curved the marks up because so many people failed he had to cover his own ass and make it look like he actually taught us something.

This guy should not be allowed to teach. Simply horrible.
He's a horrible social psych prof!He ruined the experience for me.He should not be talking about politics in psych-that's why I didn't major in politics! His tests are so difficult,unfair,90% of the lecture not textbk.Lect=politics+sex inappropriate-switch
very awful prof

Guys stop complaining about how bad this prof is! Professor Goldberg is a nice teacher, and you guys are in univerisity. Get a grip!!!
He's a horrible prof.Has extremely difficult tests.Yes,I agree that he does boost marks up to cover up that his tests are so hard so that the class average will go up to make him look like he actually was fair!Drop his course+switch sections if u get him!
Horrible the worst ever. Tests are extremely tricky and difficult. Revengeful, cold hearted!!!
i enojyed psych thoroughly because he taught well, and was extremely approachable and helpful. the tests were not very difficult, although still challenging. in short, the tests were fair.
worst prof ever!He shouldn't even be allowed to teach! He should be fired but u can still give comments on your evaluation of him at the end of the year..for now you can just don't enrol in his course-won't have a nervous breakdown, waste your $,be angry.
i did well in both of his courses. he taught both courses well and was very friendly in the process.
approachable but a boring lecturer. Tries to be funny but fails...people are laughing AT him, not WITH him
he was funny and approachable. he answered my emails very quickly. his tests were challenging but you can do well if you study for them. overall, he was a very good professor.
I did not like this class. Goldburg is a nice guy but has no business teaching. Absolutely no clarity, and his lectures are useless. There are definitely better psyc profs out there.
A nice guy, who is trying to be interesting and funny. His tests were fair, people who are complaining really havent ever had a bad prof.Take the course if u get him...not bad at all
Very nice guy, lectures are ALWAYS interesting. Knows his stuff.
worst prof ever. should not be teaching
People who did not get a good mark in this class did not brother using the textbook and the study guide. This prof is fair and people should not be in university if they cannot handle the readings for this class!
the majority of questions came from the textbook. you could manage at least a B by reading the textbook and never going to class. those. those who disagree not only did not come to class, but also didn't read the textbook.
His exam was very ambigious and challenging, that exam was a damn joke compared all the m aterial he made us write, his lectures are not from the text book. Try your luck
Ok, so his lectures are very disprganized and pretty much useless. Just read the text and you'll be fine. And heh, he curved the marks at the end pretty heavily. It all works out ok.
Clear and inspiring lectures
Zzz... found the lectures boring .. but he did try to keep people awake w/ his "jokes." Whether you find them funny is a differnt matter! exams are ok - mostly from the txt book. Prob is, its kinda hard to have only 30 questions on midterms, when you have to read 5-6 chapters!
Lectures are useless. He may as well be reading directly from the textbook. The movies shown in lecture are the only things you need for the exam that you can't get from the textbook or the online notes. Nice enough guy who tries hard, but lectures are dull, and redundant if you've read the chapter.
I must admit that his lectures are quite boring and dull. He is a really nice guy and tries to be funny. He's a cute old man!! Just read the textbook and for sure you can manage a B+...take this course for an easy mark!
he is an extraordinarily nice and understanding professor. he stutters, but the lectures are still quite interesting. he was great.
He's a nice guy, just disorganized. BUT - He's fair and knowledgeable, I would take his class again. Do the optional assignment, it helps if you didn't do so well on the exams.
he was one of my worst profs at york. he tries to make his lectures interesting (at least the movies helped) BUT his tests are on the most picky details from the book (ie - insignificant stats mentioned once). do not take him.
good experience all round :) .. very sweet guy .. intro 1010 with him is easy to get at least a B+ while organizational psyc is a little harder but quite interesting!
He is a great lecturer, and very enthusiastic and passionate about his topic. He is also a nice and friendly man. But, for someone who teaches stress management, shouldn't they apply their principles and not give us 3 exams, a project and a presentation in one semester?? and the exams are hard...
i feel like i wasted a whole semister in this course. I didnt learn very much and going into the exam had about 10 pages of lecture notes. The assignment was very ill defined and the fact that we had 3 exams, one big assingment and a presentation in one semister is a little extreme. I wouldnt take a course from this prof again
He is enthusiastic about the course, but there it is way too much work for a 3-credit course. His 3 MC exams were difficult - based on some of the most specific [ and some irrelevant ] material. Pay close attention to what he says during lectures and in the movies coz they appear in exams. If you take him, prepare to work hard.
do not take this course. too much work, hard exams, intense project. The lecture material isn't in the text at all, and he asks details from the lecture. Get out or prepare to work hard for a good mark.
For my time being in the course, he was a very friendly, qwerky, and jolly man who liked to speak. He tried to make sure he got his point across and I enjoyed lectures very much. It was a pleasure to have my 830 classes with him because he was always in a good mood, it was just the excessive work that made me drop the class.
THIS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD AT YORK. I AM IN MY FOURTH YEAR SO I SHOULD KNOW - I HAVE HAD MANY. HE IS BORING, HE THINKS HE IS FUNNY, THE WORKLOAD IS INSANE IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER COURSES. HE APPEARS TO BE NICE BUT HE IS FAKE AND IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM OR ASK A QUESTION HE KNOWS HOW TO ANSWER THE QUESTION IN A WAY TO MAKE U FEEL DUMB
this is probably the worst course i've taken through all of university. Loves to talk. Makes the lecturs go right up to the end and he could finish it in half the time if he didn't show old movies and make horrible jokes. too much work for a 3 credit.
overly difficult tests. 3 of them! a major project and a presentation...all for your guessed it...3 credits! what a joke.
Worst prof and course ever.
lectures irrelevant to textbook. kept babbling on for full 3 hours. unclear. boring. not too helpful. can be disorganized. all 3 tests - picks out such small detail, random questions, class consensus = too difficult for the type of course. consider yourself warned ... good luck with him.
I came into social psych with a interest. At times I felt as though the lectures were about a totally different subject than social psychology so it was a bit confusing. In a nutshell, the professor is clear and interesting but the exams are about average difficulty for a 2nd level course. I'm baffled at the previous poor reviews for this prof??
Tremendous professor. Interesting material. Fair tests. Overall, an excellent class.
VERY intellignet and nice man..fair exams...
He's a really nice guy but you have to teach yourself EVERYTHING in the textbk. His lectures have nothing to do with the textbk and you are still expected to know them. Lectures tend to drag on b/c he talks so much but he really is a nice guy :) Just be prepared to teach yourself the textbk. M/C can be tricky but SA are ok.
He is a really good prof.! His tests are usually common sense based, but you still need to know your stuff. He makes lectures interesting and always has something cute to share with the class. (including a song he sings and plays on guitar)
Great prof! Very entertaining!!
really nice prof... he expects you to read the textbook on your own and generally doesn't cover text material, but he teaches the practical aspect of health psych. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE OPTIONAL ASSIGNMENT; mine bumped me up from a B to an A.
The Chapters assigned in the text do not at all tie in with the lectures. It's almost as if i am doing double the work with him.
This prof is the funniest teacher you will ever have! hes awesome! his lectures are worth going to, its not a regurgitation of textbook material. He goes out of his way to make it interesting.10/10 . I wish more profs were like this guy, university would be alot more fun
worse prof ever, so boring, talks about the same thing over and over again. takes the whole 3 hours to talk about 10 slides. for the final need to memorize the whole text. lectures have no structure.
WORSE PROF EVER. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS...
Gerry is a great prof. he is extremly caring, funny, sweet, and smart! his class is wonderful, world of knowledge and great lectures. he is a real professor that cares about you. he is compassionate and one of a kind. take a course with him and study and you will get an A. i got an A+, i read and it payed off. people who complain slackedoff.take it
Good person
Is very helpful and friendly
It was a wide variety of stuff learnt because the text book and lectures did not exactly match. His exams were difficult even though the material wasn't that difficult. But it was a great course I would highly recommend it with the teacher. He was interesting and added lots of things into the lecture (clips etc).+ he seemed like a really good guy.
Best prof ever. Makes dry material interesting. Learned alot from him and found myself interested in health psyc. Very fair, test and mc and short answer and an optional paper to boost your grade. loved this class.
Easy course but the material is boring, and Professor Goldberg gives alot of his lecture material on the test. His lectures are quite different from the course text. However he bumps up marks usually. Overall his presentation skills are good. His jokes get corny sometimes but thats fine. I rate him 7/10
Good prof, class not too hard. Doesn't focus too much on biology. Adds much to lecture slides and tests you on it too.
How can anybody can negative things about this prof? He's amazing! The class isn't a bird course but he makes it so interesting. Even though there's a lot of reading in the course, he has definately taken place as one of my top profs at York.
This is a good class and surprisingly more interesting than most students anticipate. Prof. Goldberg loves his own research, so make sure to quote it. He does go on about himself quite a bit, which can be tiring - but he's quite a nice guy.
His lectures usually run the full 3 hours but they are quite interesting. The tests seemed to me to be pretty difficult, but he curves them. Take really good lecture notes and study them a lot because there will be test questions. Also, do the optional paper if you can, if you follow the instructions you'll get the 5% bonus to your final grade.
The lecture material is boring but the professor is quite amusing. I found the readings had nothing to do with the lectures and the exams were hard. A lot of people did bad. Most of the text material wasn't even on the exam. I had to drop the class cuz of the strike though but it's a good class overall. I just wish the exams were a bit easier.
Very interesting course and good prof! Lecture slides include information not in the textbook and a majority of his questions on the tests are from his slides. Review his slides very well. Textbook chapters are pretty easy to read and learn. Try to do the optional paper because it really helps your mark.
Prof makes the class very interesting. Slides posted online are very basic so must attend class to take notes. His tests are ok, just read the text well and study your notes
GREAT PROFF!!!!
The prof I originally wanted to take this course with switched to a different university so I had no choice but to take it with this prof. He was terrible. Exams were crazy hard. This course resulted in the lowest grade ever obtained in my whole university career. Barely used the textbook that cost over $200. Lectured the whole 3 hours. AVOID HIM!
I really enjoyed this class. Prof is really interesting and has slides that keep everything organized. I found his tests to be difficult but not lengthy (mc and one short essay question) The one thing I really didn't like was that he didn't follow the text book and you were required to know it so it was like two separate coureses!
nice guy, his lectures are boring.Attend his classes because what he says in class will be on the test.Read the text book very carefully and pay good attention to details if you want a good mark and read his notes. Overall he is an ok prof.
The prof has an great teaching style. Maybe it's because I do love health psychology and was interested in his class. What I hated though is that I would be marked unfairly by the TA on the short answers(got a 3/10 on the final) even though I Aced all my tests. Got a B+ but deserved an A. Prof didn't care about unfair marking I experienced though =
5 chapters for the first test, 6 chapters for the second and chapters 3-15 for the final worth 50%. I tried my hardest and i only got a 74%. There were about 90 people in the class and 30 were above me and 57 were below me in the mark. I dropped the course. In his other class 30%got a B or higher for the 3170 course. and 14%got an A or higher
the only prof in my 3 years at york that does the FULL 3 hours at 8:30 in the morning...unbelievable
wow...i never knew profs can be so cold hearted
**Good: approachable, bellcurves. **Bad: boring, disorganized, difficult. **Overall: would stay away from this course if it's crucial for you to get an A, because i knew many people who do very well generally and studied very hard for this course and got Bs. And don't be lazy, do the optional project.
nice guy but lectures were boring. his lectures barely covered anything from the textbook and very few points made in lecture were on the exams. exams were a bit difficult, to get a good mark in this class you really have to know and understand each chapter.
wow...just wow. he doesnt answer emails, does not care about his students, he is the WORST LECTURER ever. If have to attend his classes yet he puts you to sleep. AVOID any class taught by him at all cost. he will screw you over. people generally getting A+ will get a C. overall, BAD.
Stay away from any of his courses...not helpful or accomodating. Exams are cumulative and very hard. Difficult to get a good grade. Try ti avoid at any cost!!!
The summation of the Psychology department at York; his ego permeates the stratosphere. Does not answer to emails, believes that his optional project is actually of benefit to you, and to boot, requires that you be there for everyone of his excruciating lectures. In my four years at York, he is by far the WORST professor EVER. AVOID!
Being a nice guy doesn't make up for being a bad teacher. He's beyond lazy; Doesn't touch on course material expects you to teach yourself. Wastes your time by keeping u 3hrs to learn nothing important. Says several times that his students have trouble with bio heavy ch 2 but refuses to teach it. Expects a lot of you but makes no effort to teach u. Optional assignment is ridiculous. One of the worst profs at York. Plays guitar for his own amusement bores the class. Run away, run away!
Didn't mind him, his tests are pretty annoyingly written and a lot of MC questions are strange and unexpected lecture info so you have to attend and pay attention. Sometimes he tests on a really specific thing which is especially frustrating. He seems like overall a very decent guy, but I wouldnt want to take his oddly written tests again lol.
He is a really nice guy, but i have to admit, the class can be boring. some stuff from lectures does appear on tests, but as long as you pay attention you will do fine. his tests are not hard, they are actually REALLY fair. you would have to be pretty lazy to do bad in his class. an A or B is almost guaranteed.
going to class not useful, he only shows interest and makes lectures somewhat interesting if his intrested in the subject himself, about 18 lecture questions where on the mid term, he goes off subject ALLOT, does funky things to keep the class not falling asleep, but overall if you memorize the textbook you should be fine.
AVOID! awful teacher, boring beyond belief, if you werent tired before attending lecture, your sure to fall asleep. HE HAS NO RANGE IN HIS VOICE, BORING BORING BORING, keeps you 3 hrs and next to nothing from lecture appears on tests! AVOID
Horrible class. Lectures were pointless, he would barely talk about the actual topics, going off on tangents way too often. I felt like I learned nothing. Too much material on exams, hard to do well when you have so much to wade through, and having a lecture after the exam is so stupid. Wishing I hadn't taken this class. Nice prof, not nice class.
I hated going to lecture. Long, boring... seemed to drag on forever. Mark is based on 3 oddly worded multiple choice tests. Do the optional project to make up for them!
Teacher is ok. Heavy reading and lots of material to cover! Lectures are not related to material on exam. Make sure u stay ahead of the material if you want lectures to make sense.
Prof has some great applied stuff that makes the course a real learning experience
Lectures are interesting, but he hardly tests on them. The tests are VERY confusing. I left each exam not knowing what he tested me on. The material is not what you would expect for the course. Not recommended.
I liked him. Very helpful. If you want to get a good great make sure u attend lectures and watch videos carefully--a lot of questions. Always open to answer any questions.
seminar class, 3 papers, 3 presentations crammed into a 6 week su2 class. ticks off everytime you speak in class to encourage dialogue and participation. biopsychosocial approach coupled with a health risk factor. if you colour a smidgen outside his project rules (which are kinda vague and open to interpretation) then you will be majorly penalized.
Also had him for the seminar health psych class and thought it was great. Great prof and very open to discussion. If you`re good at presentations and papers, this is your class!
Absolutely awesome prof! Makes psychology fun and entertaining! He makes the concepts very clear and easy to understand so that if you do your readings and attend lecture, you are guaranteed an A!
BEWARE STUDENTS, don't pick up this course!!!! I'm a smart guy and I didnt do well in this. There is wayyyyy too much info in the text, the prof will test you on material that wasnt covered in the textbook or slides in the course! If you want to do well, choose something else!!
Nice guy, but terribly boring lecturer. The lectures are very long and directly extract from the textbook, except for the occasional video he might show. The exams are very difficult. There is an incredible amount of info needed to be covered for each exam, and his questions deliberately try to trick you and create ambiguity. Not recommended.
Psych 1010: Boring classes and not very clear. Study straight from the text and you'll do alright.
Gerald Goldberg, is a friendly, animated guy who does his very best to make lectures full of dry material interesting. He prefers to treat his students like adults, and he is not there to pamper you. Put in a poor effort, and it will show. Put in a good one, and you will be rewarded. The course is very intensive, but there are a few fun surprises.
Very thoughtful lectures, make me want to go on in psychology
Great course. Lectures got me to want to continue in psychology.
LOVE this prof! His lectures are way too long but he provides fun videos and fun jokes! The textbook is way too big with too much info and the exams can be sometimes be difficult but make sure you do the urpp credits because those few credits helped me go from a final grade of B+ to an A in the end.
Very friendly guy but rambles SO MUCH in lectures. I couldnt stand him after an hour of his class. 4 Tests that are 70% text book and 30% lectures. He bases his questions on examples used in class. I couldnt stand his lectures so i memorized the text religiously. Dont recommend him, youll fall asleep in class.
Boring, cursory treatment of the topic that left me wondering if I learned anything. Prof is obsessed with recent studies (e.g. last year or 2), yet selects a topic (depression at work) that is well-studied. I'm very interested in health psych, but hated this class.
Choose him as a Prof if you want to learn "Boring 101" Instead of Psych 1010
I never attended the class but I got a B. Just read the textbook and do the surveys
Dr. Goldberg is a nice guy with an okay sense of humor. He really tries to make his lectures as interesting as possible, but can ramble on about God-knows-what for extended periods of time. Also sit up close because he can be difficult to hear. Luckily intro is a very easy course.
Boring prof with boring lectures but essay tests with easy contents. Just read the textbook. His essay questions are the easiest.
Hes a nice guy with a better outlook on psych 1010. Second time taking the course and i could actually stay awake in his classes. Psych 1010 is boring but he engages the class and has easy tests. Just remember to read the textbook.
Nice guy but his tests are amazingly hard. Studied textbook like a bible but still had such a hard time on those tests.
Professor Goldberg is animated and interesting enough to listen to in the lectures. The lectures, IMO, were somewhat outdated and often had NOTHING to do with what was covered in the text book. The tests are difficult, and it's hard to know what he will test on. Some of the questions many of us found were so specific and never mentioned in class
He just makes a huge deal out of an easy course by making you study the worst textbook. He is also the worst lecturer that I've seen and you are guaranteed to leave his class after an hour, or fall sleep for the rest of the class, even his TAs.
His a great and easy Prof
A very good professor, but he can ramble on. Be sure to sit near the front if you expect to hear his lecture. Most of his test info is straight from the textbook. If you read the textbook and review lectures slides you won't have any problem attaining an A.
The tests are based on the book and his lectures. The tests are very hard. You have to know all details of what you read.
Prof. Goldberg is a fairly good professor. I enjoyed his lectures and the way he explained the material. Be prepared to do a lot of reading because the tests are basically from what you've read as well as the lecture. They aren't easy either so you have to really take the time to study for this course in order to at least get a passing grade.
Good lectures, the course material is pretty interesting too. Tests are fair. Attend class, read the textbook, you'll do well.
Don't take this course with him if you have any other options! The lecture is long and boring and he makes it even more confusing. Exams are really hard, make sure you pay enough attention to videos he's showing at the end of some classes.
He talks in an interesting way and he explains important points of each chapter but not all of them. So you have to focus on textbook and read a lot as well as videos and his examples in the lecture. Write all of them down. Once in the test he asked about the exact example that he mentioned in the class not the one which is in the book!
You dont really have to attend class, or have the textbook. You literally could obtain the chapter reviews for each of the 4 exams online. His lectures are long and boring, he's also monotone.
The course was made interesting by Dr. Goldberg. It was accelerated so there was a significant amount of reading which means doing about 2 chapters per week. Good examples and anecdotes were used to convey complex concepts. Tests were tricky, but if you attend class regularly and know the material, it's not so bad.
He's so cute and funny and loves Psychology very much. You can tell he is very passionate and loves teaching this class. I'm not a psychology major (arts program student) but i had an easy time in his course. Just read the textbook lol
Overall a funny guy to listen to in lectures. However if you approach him for help, he sends you to your textbook to look for the answers. He has a good attitude in class but I don't know about how he is one on one. His tests cover the most minute detail - so study closely.
Although the criteria is interesting, there is a TON to read. He does not cover the main criteria from the lectures/textbooks. Your text book will feed you information that he does not cover. Instead, he focuses on small aspects of the book. To top it off, he is an extremely hard marker.
If psych is mandatory for you, avoid this professor. He doesn't cover much of what needs to be learned for tests in lecture- EVERYTHING IS IN THE TEXTBOOK (so read the textbook!). He lectures for the FULL 3 hrs even if it's a 7-10pm class. I love psych but I hated his teaching style & approach, prepare for a ton of "dad jokes" & blabbering.
I'm an international student and English is not my mother tongue. For me, this is course is extremely hard. Don't expect that you memorize the textbook and you will get good marks. GG doesn't work on that way. You have to attend his lectures, because he offers so many references that are NOT in the textbook but are in the TESTS. U'll do double work
Great prof! he is so interesting and his lectures are actually worth going to! MCQ is straight from the book and half the questions are things he talks about in class! Hes hilarious as well!
As long as you read the textbook, and watch the videos he posted online, you'll get a good grade. But there are some things that he mentions in class that show up on the exam, so it's beneficial if you want those few extra points. I took a 7-10pm class and was extremely bored, but he's a good prof overall.
He was great; very funny and engaging. A little rude at times over email, but his TAs handled matters professionally. For the tests, just read the textbook and pay attention in lecture. He makes some Qs from lecture. Also, make sure you do the extra credit research paper! It made my final avg go from a B to an A. Don't be lazy with the paper!
Gerald Goldberg is a difficult psychology professor for a 1st year course. I understand that students should not take PSYC 1010 for a easy credit, but Gerald Goldberg makes the course highly difficult. He tells you to read the entire textbook and he asks very tiny detailed questions on the midterms. I took 6 Credits (full course) in one semester.
This course was hard. Normally I do well in class but not this one. The lectures can get boring sometimes. Some of the MC questions can be VERY tricky. The first two 'quizzes' were decent, but the final exam really screwed me over. If you want an A in this course then you must memorize a LOT. I will definitely not pick this prof again.
Has a great grasp of material and is very funny.
He makes psychology very relevant to real life. As a result of this course, I will switch to psychology.
He's a nice guy and all... but his tests are crazy. Totally unreasonable and insanely specific. Covers like 350 pages in the textbook and expects us to know all about every paragraph. This mans out of his mind. The test I just took was easily the hardest test of my university experience
His tests are VERY specific to textbook readings (which are really long, especially for those with a full course load), as well as examples given during lecture. Make sure you study EVERYTHING on the slides, and READ the book. The 2nd test was much harder than the first test. Those who wrote the test can relate (...3, 30, 4k or 40k generations?!?)
Lectures were pretty boring and not related to the textbook. He violated every single power point rule by putting full paragraphs in tiny fonts on the slides. You basically have to read the entire textbook, final exam was based on 12 chapters plus lectures (400+ pages!). MC questions were very detailed and the essay questions were always weird.
The people complaining about this professor didn't put in the work - one of the forum posts was literally "send me notes because i didn't attend class"... Put in the work, show up to class, do the extra credit assignment, you'll get an A. He asks examples from the textbook case studies though so study those as well. He's a caring professor
I enjoyed his lectures quite a lot although it was from 7-10pm when it is hard to focus. He covers about 80% of what is on the text in the lectures but 95% of the material on the exams are from the text so reading it is a must.
Really enjoyed the lectures
Make sure you read the textbook before class, attend lectures, and print out the slides (instead of trying to write out all the info). I would recommend making use of all your TA specific hours. They are there to help you understand very dense material. He's a good lecturer but you MUST be prepared to put in the work to get a good mark.
He is really funny unless you are annoyed by dad jokes. Always adds memes to his lectures. His tests include things he says in his lectures and videos he plays so you have to attend
This class was a little disappointing. He seems very nice and tries to be engaging but I found the lectures boring and almost irrelevant a lot of the times. His lectures barely match up to the textbook content so when studying, its tough to know what exactly to study. Make sure to show up to class & take notes bc his tests are 90% lecture based!
What a waste of time. Had to teach myself 13 chapters because his lectures are random and have nothing to do with the textbook. His lectures are boring and I learnt nothing attending them. I studied, forced myself to attend lectures and read all the chapters and only managed to get a low 70. I dont think he is a good prof and he doesn't care.
Worst Mistake I made, I barely showed up, luckily I got some notes, thats the only reason I ended off without failing. Boring, you will regret every once of this, just go with Jubis if you are trying to minor in psych, and Im warning you dont do it, he is nice guy tho
His lectures are very interesting if you are interested in health psychology. Many people fail because they're in the wrong program and aren't interested in psychology. However, 90% of exam is based on the book, not lectures. The exam Qs are very elusive and he provides no information on what to expect, so it's difficult to know what to memorize.
He is a very nice professor who loves what he teaches. His tests are a little tough but if you study and go to lecture you should be okay. You really need to take notes during lecture because there is a lot of information and he usually tells you what big topics and ideas you will be tested on.
Avoid this guy at all costs. Lectures are disorganized and he talks about everything but the lecture content. Tests are unnecessarily difficult and based on things he never even talked about. Asks questions that make no sense and have no relation with the content. Psychology is an easy course but he makes it difficult. Worst experience.
He tried to be funny, but it is not. He talks a lot of irrelevant materials during the lecture, which could be distracted. You have to get ready to read before every single lecture. You can get bonus mark if you write a 8 pages essay. stammer prof
Respects students and is well prepared
Had him for a little bit but then switched to a different section. He is nice and caring but I never really enjoyed his lectures as he tends to ramble a lot and I never understood the things he was trying to explain. Goodluck to anyone who has him
I had him for Summer 2020, and it was the worst experience. He graded us in 3 essays, the topic gets more and more vague on each essay. There's no rubric on what he wants, he said it could be anything. The TA I had was difficult to reach, couldn't even explain why I got a certain mark. The prof does not help to clarify anything when you email him.
He's nice, but he only gave us 3 opportunities for grades and that was through examinations. He's not very helpful when it comes to answering questions. Take GG if you want to sit for 3 hours in his lectures
this prof is not empathetic whatsoever, during the pandemic he will not grant extensions even when there is a good reason. He won't offer help or insight on assignments either. besides that classes were delivered asynchronously so it was fine, but veryyy lecture and textbook heavy. only 4 tests that make up your whole mark.
He makes students write essays as part of the exams which are extremely difficult to find ideas for. His lectures proceed very slowly, 3 hours in length, and he asks very very specific and detailed questions in tests from the lectures, so you need to sit 3+ hours and write down every little thing he says.
Dr. Goldberg genuinely seems like a nice guy but in no means was he a good lecturer for this course. On top of all of the midterms, he also assigns essays with super ambiguous topics that don't even reflect what the course material covers. His TA's give very poor feedback and are extremely tough graders. You should probably avoid his class.
Prof G was exactly what you'd expect for an intro course. Heavy lectures, test heavy and hard to reach (due to how many students are enrolled in this course?) Would have been better in person perhaps, but 3 hour lectures on zoom were difficult. Essay portion of exams are ridiculous. small word count but must include so much info. Felt impossible...
Prof. Goldberg epitomizes online learning in an intro course; very test-heavy, and not the best at responding to students in a timely manner. The 3-hour zoom lectures were killer, so I basically had to teach myself everything straight from the textbook. If you don't work well independently this is not the prof for you.
Professor Goldberg is a very knowledgeable and nice person however his lecture style is very difficult to follow. It spans around 3 hours and fails to cover anything thats on the test. The assignments are very ambiguous, you definitely need to work for an A
One of the worst profs ever. Does not know how to communicate in a good manner and has horrible speaking skills. The entire department is rude.
There is a lot of material covered in this class, and you are expected to be familiar with all of it (4 full textbook chapters per exam, roughly 3 hours of lecture material + videos) for the tests. Tests are multiple choice + take-home essays. It's a LOT of work to get a good grade in this class but it is possible!
IF YOU HAVE THE CHOICE DO NOT TAKE INTRO TO PSYCH WITH THIS PROF. He made us do 4 mc tests (almost all application questions). Along with 8 500 word papers. All of the other psyc sections only had to do 4 mc tests that were knowledge based questions. I normally get a+ in knowledge based classes and I found myself stressing and only getting an a.
This class made me want to bang my head against the wall. 3 hour lectures every week and he will spend 30 mins on one subject that won't even end up being on the test and then have 8 test questions based on something he mentioned for 15 seconds. So unnecessarily hard and unclear, take a different prof.
If you value your grades DO NOT take this class with Goldberg. Lectures have nothing to do with the textbook yet the tests made up of only one question where you have to write 1200 words relating the answer to both (is worth 30% or 40% & only 3 tests ). Our last test didn't even have a question to answer we just had to "relate both" in 1200 words.
I took his class last school year (FW2020-2021). We only had to do 4 essays and 4 tests. We didn't have any quizzes or assignments. His lectures were pre-recorded and I only watched some of them because it was pretty long. Plus, his lecture was based on the textbook and had Q&A sessions. Anyways, YOU NEED TO READ THE TEXTBOOK.
Nice guy, and makes an effort to engage class. His three tests in a paper format are difficult and don't bother asking for any sort of extension, he won't give it. Readings don't match lectures, therefore 2 times the amount of information per week. Would have dropped if I didn't need the credit. Won't take prof again if classes are run like this.
Tests were based on Lecture and Textbook material, some questions were very specific and frustrating, the majority weren't. He's a good prof, but he often only follows a small portion of what's in the textbook for each week, usually the most important/hardest to learn stuff. If you don't read the textbook, you'll fail. He's pretty funny too.
Does not give breaks during lectures and talks continuously.
GG IS NOT FOR THE WEAK. Be prepared to work hard because his exams were TOUGH (60 mins for 60 MCQ) + Take home mini "essays" Literally had A's in psych my whole life but this class HUMBLED me, but if you put in the effort to read the textbook and listen to his lectures (which are heavy & longgg) + study you'll learn a lot and do well.
I do not recommend you take his class as a third year Psychology elective. Take home test questions were practically impossible to answer properly and the feedback from the TA does not help you improve. Most of the feedback was to "elaborate more," however there was not enough space to elaborate entirely in 1000 words. A very carless Professor.
This professor does not grade on fair terms. Made final exam worth 50% and consisted of all trick questions on the multiple choice. He used wording in multiple choice that was very hard to interpret and understand. He was very cold in his emails and would not accommodate students even when he made errors on his end.
If you can take another prof for intro to psych, do it. Goldberg explained things well and is a funny prof but his 3 hour lectures were rough to sit through. His slides are quite unhelpful and your mark is based only on the exams. The exams were hard and focused on tiny details that he barely went over.
Goldberg's intro psych class is tough, but using unstuck AI for study prep really helped me stay on top of the material. His lectures are dense, so reading the textbook and attending class is key. The exams are challenging but fair if you put in the work.
