Very Helpful and Cares, emialed me when I wasn't in class, to make sure I was ok. Total Sweetie!
very nice guy, explained when we needed it. besides not being able to read his writing, i learned a lot. promptly answers emailed questions.
Extremely nice prof. Hand writing isn't so great though, and its not exactly clear at any point how you are doing in the class grade wise. Tests and quizzes usually have easy questions, and a handful of tricky ones worth alot more points. Class is what you'd expect for a business core weed out.
hard to understand
Doesn't explain topics clearly in class. Difficult to understand and not engaging. His tests and quizzes would not be that difficult if he explained things in class, however you have no idea what the questions are going to be like.
BY FAR the easiest econ prof you can take.....the first exam average was an 88%, NO JOKE!!! He's very nice and able to clarify things and work with you one-on-one. The only problem was that he flew through lectures quite fast, but I excelled without any effort at all, something I never expceted from an econ course.
One of the best teachers i have ever had, will help you whenever you need help adn spedn a lot of time, responds to emails quickly and is alwsy willing to help...The guy is incredible, you have to take him.
Really nice guy, really willing to help. NOT a great teacher for summer school. There's no way to tell what material will be on the exam, and he covers so much material so quickly that you don't even know what to answer questions over. I think the class average is a C, only rounds up a few percentage points. Ehhhh.
Extremely Hard professor. Quickly covers material and hard to follow even in a small class. Had to withdrawal.
not a very good teacher, had to withdrawl, DO NOT TAKE
His class was not that hard. His lectures were straight. You can get prepared for quizzes/exams just for the notes, you do not have to read the text book. The only problem was that the question in the test were pretty tricky.
I liked granderson. He teaches the material well and is probably the easiest econ teacher you can have. The tests and quizes are based off old ones that are in this book you buy. The only complaint I have about him is that his hand writing is awful and he speaks with his eyes closes sometimes. I would recomend taking him though.
Granderson is a decent teacher, from what i hear probably the easiest, but by no means easy. Did average work in the class and got a B.
It really is hard to find a good 201 techer because the class is so hard as it is. But, I would not recommend taking Granderson. He is very unclear and even when you ask a question he beats around the bush, so even though your still confused you say you are not just to make him stop talking. I ended up getting a D. Don't take him.
Geraldo is a G. He is straight forward and the class is not bad compared to other econ's. Take him, he is a BOSS
Granderson is one of the nicest teachers you will have at Miami! Take hime if you can.
Granderson is a legit teacher for 201. I would stronly recomend taking him for 201. He is nice and the class is not hard
Mr. Granderson is a really nice guy and is always willing to help. His teaching style is another story. His info is inconsistent at times and he beats around the bush. He gives you tons of good info but then the tests come and you have no idea how to apply it. The class is a PITA but a B or C is reasonable.
Granderson is fantastic. Work through his sample exams and quizes, read the textbook, and you will have no excuse for not getting an A.
Super nice guy, but incredibly boring lectures. That being said, compared to other Economics classes and professors, he actually wants the students to do well - not trying to "weed out" anyone. Easy to approach if you need any help and he wants you to succeed! Definitely recommend this class and 201 with him.
he's really nice and helpful, sends out emails to remind you of important dates and concepts. econ is just really difficult.. barely studied and pulled off a B. i'd take him. he's 100 percent better than any other miami econ prof that ive heard of
I disagree with the other comments, I believe that there are much better microeconomics professors out there. Granderson does not use powerpoints like majority of other professors, and his notes are extremely disorganized. He does not use many examples. Your grade consists of all exams and quizzes, no homework like other econ profs. Was a struggle.
Professor Granderson is the man! He is the best professor I have ever seen. He is easy and nice, and you really learn stuff from his class.
Granderson is very nice but the class is rather difficult. He doesn't explain things clearly and when he tries to answer questions he just kind of ends up confusing people more. The only grades you get are from exams and quizzes, so if you do bad on those then there is really no way to improve your grade.
Not a good teacher to take. Doesn't really explain things very well. Even when I went to office hours, he didn't help me.
Sincere professor. Dr. G is seriously committed to helping students succeed. Not the most dynamic presenter; however, he tries very hard for us to understand his lectures.
Granderson does not know how to explain things. It is obvious that he knows a lot about the subject, but he is unable to relay it to his students. His lectures are confusing and all over the place. The only way to succeed in this class is through studying the book
Granderson is confusing and never explains anything. Make sure to read the book, he is not a good teacher. Confuses everyone during class and cannot answer questions.
Granderson is a really nice guy, but he really is not a good teacher. He makes up his own economic problems which is annoying because if you practice some of the problems out of the book, it is useless. When he tries to answer questions, he just confuses people more.
Granderson was great! The other comments must be from idiots because the class was very doable and Granderson was entertaining and helpful. If you study the green book he gives you of past tests and quizes you will do fine! He is more than willing to help if you have questions. Great teacher and person!
Granderson is my favorite professor at miami so far. I learned so much from him and loved his class. If i needed help, he was more than happy to explain in his office hours. He also throws in the occasional joke which is usually hilarious. Definitly the best/easiest econ prof at miami.
Granderson is the man! Very friendly, and outgoing. Loves talking to students. If you ever have a problem don't hesitate to see him. He has a great test format. You buy a course pack with all his old tests on them and practice as many as you can.Dont have to really worry about the book or his notes. Tests are very fair, and do able.Awesome Professor!
He is a grammar nightmare. Incredibly redundant with unnecessary clauses (in terms of, as far as _____ is concerned) it never ends. Study his past test packets and get an easy B without ever going to class.
Granderson meant well, but was just so off. His grammar was horrid, and he never really answered questions. His texts were difficult, but studying the course pack did help.
It's hilarious; I had this guy at 2 schools - University of Florida and Miami University (Ohio). After all these years, he still manages to use lots of "filler" phrases; e.g. "in terms of the test on Friday, we will have it" or "in light of the fact that for lack of better wording, because of the storm, we are behind a day."
If you don't phrase your test answers in the EXACT words he is looking for he marks you completely wrong. He says expressions like "in terms of" about every 5 seconds and trust me...it will bother you. You can tell he is smart and knows what he's talking about but he has NO idea how to communicate effectively.
He is a nice guy but very difficult to pay attention to in class. The way he phrases things in class is difficult to understand but if you go to his office hours he makes a little more sense. He's very good when it comes to helping students. You have to study really hard to get a decent grade on quizzes and tests.
Overall he is a good teacher, he can be difficult to understand in class sometimes, but if you do the practice exams in the test booklet and use his office hours you should have no problem getting a B/B+. It's definitely a little bit harder to get an A, just because there are only 4 quizzes and 3 exams the whole semester.
Professor Granderson is great. The SI instruction is something I highly recommend that you go to regularly. It clears up any questions. I took him for 201 and 202. Stay on top of the work weekly and come exam time, you won't be running around trying to understand the material. Exams are similar format to the course packet. However, read slowly!
Granderson is so nice. He means well and is always eager to help students. He is sometimes difficult to understand because he rambles a lot but overall a great prof. If you study his practice exams and quizzes, you will do fine.
Granderson is really difficult to follow. I tried reading the textbook to better understand the material, but it didn't help. His exams and quizzes are based off of the course pack from previous quizzes and tests, but they tended to just make me more confused. He also sends a TON of e-mails.
If you want an A on this class, you need to pay 500% attention to his lecture, and not miss one class. At one point I was paying close attention then I dropped my pen, picked it up then I just lost him. You would hear him say "in terms of", "um kay" at least a 1000 times for each lecture. An A in this class is possible but requires lots of work.
Nice guy but class is just way too boring and he is hard to follow because of his constant pauses in his train of thought. He saids SO MANY emails it is ridiculous and makes it hard to know what is important and what is not. Quizzes & Tests can be hard to study for as the only materials available that are relevant are those found in the course pack
In terms of Gerald being a good professor, he is quite average. Can we move upward and onward?
In terms of Gerald being a good teacher, he is not. He sure does like to move upward and onward though.
I do not write reviews, but I had to for this class so that I could save others. Granderson means well, but he might be the most confusing professor out there. He does a horrible job of explaining things and when you ask him a question half the time it will just confuse you more. If you can, take any other professor for this class.
Great guy. Can be confusing and has some annoying phrases he likes to repeat, but means well and his class is not too hard. The course pack is the way to learn the material.
Take him for 405! As many people noted before, he has a ton of filler words that he likes to use, he also loves sending long-confusing emails and he might be confusing during the lecture if you are not focused. However, the class was GREAT! Managerial Econ is interesting and with all the cases Granderson uses it made it that much better!
He does not make sense when he is talking. Going to class is not really important as he sends out the notes for every class. You would be better off skipping class and just studying on your own. Overall He is a great guy not a great teacher.
Come to class because sometime the notes help with studying. Follow what he says to study and you will be fine. I was hoping he was teaching 202 but he's not next semester
Gerald is an overall great guy. The course material is rather easy; his energy and enthusiasm made it possible to stay awake in class. Be prepared to look at a lot of graphs as that is how he explains most topics. If you don't understand, make sure to let him know because he will go out of his way to make sure you do. Can we move upward and onward?
Gerald is a super nice guy. He will go out of his way to help you understand something but a lot of times, he just ends up making the question even more confusing. His train of thought simply does not make sense and you will get lost if you can't completely focus on every little thing he says. I would suggest someone else for Econ 201
Gerald is easily the nicest professor I've had here. However, he does not explain the material well at all and rambles on forever. He uses so many graphs, but they have nothing to do with the quizzes or tests. Loves questions but his answers are often very confusing. Take someone else.
My man. He's a good guy and generally is helpful in my opinion. As an econ major who loves the field, I find his class laughably easy. If you're not an econ major, or someone who really likes micro topics, maybe pass on him. This class is a very low workload, and he's a nice guy. I really enjoyed his class, but others find him confusing.
He is a good guy, but he is hard to most students understand what he were talking about. He is easy to access after class. You are good to ask him any questions about class. He is patient and nice. But if you want to have a good grade in his class, you'd better learn it before class or discuss the content with other students.
He is such a gentleman who really cares about his students. All of the questions in exams come from old quizzes and exams. You only need to do a few assignments and take notes in the class, and you can get an A easily.
A great 201 professor. Puts old exams and quizzes online for you to review (which makes taking quizzes and exams that much easier). He really cares about the material and how well you understand it.
Mr. Granderson is a passionate and caring teacher who is always available to give you a thorough explanation of whatever you are struggling with. Saying that his class is all lectures that are extremely hard to follow. Quizzes and tests are provided from previous years so the class is bearable but hard to excel in. He's still my man!
Class was entirely based on tests. He just rambles on and says a lot of false statements. Makes it confusing because you have to study for what he has said, not what is true.
Took this during the pandemic, might be a different experience. Just 4/5 quizzes and 3 tests but bombarded with messages that are unclear and information that isn't relevant. Almost two weeks between material on the quiz and what is being taught. Nothing personal, seems like a nice guy, but an asinine class format for an already difficult course.
he sucks but as long as you do and understand the practice exams you'll do ok. he sends a million emails that are completely irrelevant, in class, he just rambles forever, makes zero sense and contradicts himself all the time but as long as you get course packet you shouldn't do terribly.
Dr Granderson brings good energy and enthusiasm to the classroom. He will move only once all confusion has been cleared up and he is easily approachable and accessible outside of the classroom
As a *person*, Prof. Is great. You can tell hes overall a GREAT guy that really cares about his students. However, as a professor, hes not so great. Class grade is determined by 3 exams and 4 quizzes, each exam being around 1/4 of your grade. Be prepared to not be allowed to slip up, itll cost you. Lectures and notes can be confusing!
Professor Granderson is an excellent teacher. He gives lectures every class and most of the information is spoken. If this is an issue he is not for you. There is no attendance, but if you skip class you will not do well. Having a rapport with Granderson is an absolute benefit to you. He will do everything he can to help you do as well as possible.
He is passionate about the subject and a good guy but a horrible professor. He rambles during his lectures saying a-lot of things that do not make any sense and continues on the topic after asking questions to the class and nobody knows the answer. Be ready to read if you want to do good in the class and be ready to leave class confused some days.
ECO 202 isn't the worst class ever, but Granderson isn't a great prof. I didn't like his lecture notes, and I think I honestly should have just stuck to the book reading. Then again, his lectures usually had nothing to do with the book so I was always lost. I did okay, but I feel like I didn't learn much. I would take someone else.
If youre an econ major and you want to learn or be challenged, dont take this class. Hes a nice guy but the class was so easy. If youve taken hard economics classes and done well, this will be an easy A. I Never attended class and did fine.
Not a great teacher, does not teach anything in class. I had to learn a lot of outside sources
He knows his stuff but he can be hard to comprehend. Your grade will come from the 2 tests and 4 quizzes. The final is not cumulative. Attendance is not mandatory but the notes will be hard to follow if you dont show up. Overall a good teacher, this material will be challenging no matter who you have.
he is a very nice guy & very smart. no point in going to his lectures they are boring and wont help. watch khan academy or go to tutoring for help. i took all tests in my dorm because he didnt care if you showed up & I got an A in the class.
This class is difficult and he is a tough professor, but he explains things well.
Old-school and very lecture-heavy, but Gerald is genuinely a good guy... He is obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. He provides practice exams/quizzes, and if you know how to do those, you will do well. Definitely respect him and would take him again.
Completely different from every class. He does not curve and only uses about 9 grades in total. He teaches at you and has no slides for notes or no legible notes in general. Everything is short-handed. You have to spend time decoding his notes for them to even make sense, and at that point, they do not. Most of my learning was outside of class.
Granderson is funny, took me a while to get the pace of the lectures, they move fast and you're lost most of the time, best way to study is through canvas as he's got exams & quizzes from previous years. If youre taking 405 DO NOT buy the case, it's more expensive than it should be and he usually has copies in class. Book can be found free online
Worst class I've taken at Miami. Lectures make no sense and are nothing like the textbook. Exams are worded weirdly and make the concepts impossible to apply. Notes on the board are illegible and he doesn't teach off slides. Sends you no less than three emails a week but doesn't respond to his emails. He is a very sweet man though.
The worst class I've taken here. Lectures make no sense. Tests are worded wierdly so that makes no sense. I did most of the learning myself through tutors, reading the textbook and SI sessions and I still failed. Also, you are graded on like 5 quizzes and 2 tests so be prepared to fail if you don't do well. DON'T take this class with Granderson
I'm just writing here since I couldn't add to my previous review. He's also not that encouraging, I wasn't doing to well in terms of grades and he said "I can't guarantee you'll pass this course." So take that how you will.
His exams are super easy, make sure to get the previous exam/quiz textbook, it is amazing for studying.
He is a great guy and knows his stuff, but his lectures and notes don't make a lot of sense and you essentially have to teach yourself everything. Your entire grade is based on 3 exams and 5 quizzes that are just as hard as the exams.
Very passionate, but a terrible teacher. It's almost like he has issues focusing, because he would jump from info to info without explaining anything thoroughly. His lectures are awful and IMPOSSIBLE to follow. He just spews information but doesn't explain any of it. The only reason I passed is because of the SI sessions.
nice guy, but don't take this prof. his questions on exams/quizzes are worth a lot and build on the first answer, so if you get the first part wrong you automatically lose the points. I stopped going to lectures bc they didn't make sense since its just memorizing arrows. exams are guessing games even after intense studying, loved the SI sessions
Regardless of what you think of his teaching style in the lectures, the notes, and the practice exams he gives to make the exams super predictable and easy to study for, He's an awesome guy. I had him for 201, 202, and 405, and he is the best econ professor at Miami, from my experience, there's a reason Miami has kept him for over 20 years.
Very heavy old-fashioned lecture teacher. He did not write notes on the board or tell you what to write down. his lectures were him talking and then he had a quiz/ exam every week.
You don't have to read the textbook at all. His exams are based simply on memorizing the chapter notes he has under files on Canvas. Make sure you pay attention in class to know what chapter notes you should be looking at to study for each exam. Also, his practice exam questions on Canvas are very similar to the exams.
He is a really nice older guy, but the class was horrible. He says things like "my man" and "in terms of" every other sentence. He takes notes in a very old-fashioned way and none of the lectures are similar to the exams. I had to teach myself almost everything and was at risk of failing due to the fact that there is no homework. Take with caution.
Great professor
Nice guy and teacher, but honestly a terrible teacher. His lectures were all over the place and so hard to follow. Couldn't decide if it was better to teach myself everything or struggle through each of his lectures. He also hasn't updated his tests or quizzes in ages, and there's hardly any grades outside of them. Easy concept over-complicated.
Literally take this man if you want an A. I know his lectures are all over the place but attendance is not mandatory and his quizzes and tests are pretty much almost exact to the practices and if you do not understand the concepts just use recognition. You have to be really dumb to get lower than a B
He just talks at you, no slides or anything. Also the final exam average was an F so goodluck.
