Very nice guy, dry humor funny. Tells you straight up that he doesn't know the answer when he doesn't. Everything on the test is either covered in class or mentioned as something to know for test. Gives handouts when he runs out of lecture time. Easy going on due dates. Highly recommended teacher.
This class was challenging. I had to earn my A. This teacher is extremely clear in teaching the material. All notes from his powerpoint presentation are vital. Read the book and read over test questions several times to earn your A. Definitely not a piece of cake, but very gratifying.

He was helpful and gave interesting details about the history of America. It was a fun class.
I had him for two classes. I really liked him, for some reason.
Very good teacher. I like the way he lectures. He also used powerpoint slides everyday...so it was really easy to take notes. His tests come directly from notes and he makes sure to tell you if there is something else on the test.
Good teacher and a very nice person. Lectures are very to the point, however, can be dry sometime. I found that I had to force myself to keep giving him my attention. But he's a really nice guy, and if you are really good with studying out of class, you should be fine.
To the point and hints on questions that are going to be on the test. You have to be able to study outside of class to bet a decent grade on his exams. He will help you out on your reseach paper if you ask!!! Not the easiest professor, but a decent one.
organized, and helpful. tries to keep it interesting with really bad jokes. a really down to earth teacher, he'll do what he can to help. not a bad way to make it through history, i'd recommend him.
I really like the way he teach. He is very organized and straight to the point. He gives you hints on what's going to be on the exam. He emphasizes important things that you need to know for the short answers too. He makes learning history interesting, he takes time in asking if you have questions and comments every after slideshow...
Any professor that can make you laugh during a US History course is awesome. Dr. Hauck clearly enjoys discussing history. Tests are pretty tough, but as long as you study you can easily make an A.
Prof. Hauck is so awesome. He makes power points and posts them on blackboard so if you miss a class you won't be behind.
EASY A!!!!
He's the easiest Hist prof at ACC! All notes r powerpoint and available on blackboard. Tests are fair, 50 mult. choices and 8 short answers (he already told u what will be). Come to class regularly and u'll get 2 more pts extra on yr average. Only thing to complaint is that he was even wayyy more PICKY than my english profs on the research paper!
Makes history interesting. He has a fun sense of humor but takes teaching seriously. Use the study guides and come to class and you'll be fine.
Great teacher and the class was fun! I made A's on all of my tests. This is how I did it: 1. Come to class, 2. Take notes 3. Complete the Learning Objectives on the hand out that he gives you for each unit, 4. Study and review. In total, studying/ completing the Learning Objectives would take me about 6 hours. I would space out the 6 hours.
He is an amazing teacher, I really loved and respected the guy. I came to class as much as I could. He's very clean cut and fair, posts the powerpoints and does whatever he can to help you out. Only one writing assignment, ability to retest and offers a MC and essay based test. Great teacher, would use again.
Easy class and great teacher. He has 4 tests which the content is given to you through his powerpoints and study guide and 1 research paper.
Gerald is the best. I looked forward to attending every chance I could. He knows a good joke when I tell one too! lol
I loved this class! The professor kept it interesting and was extremely knowledgeable about all the topics we covered. It was most interesting that he is from Germany and has a more unique perspective than some other professors. His tests were not easy, but if you study the materials he provides and the objectives, you will do fine.Great teacher!
I really enjoyed his class, he was a great professor. He was very fair and very knowledgable about the subject he was teaching. I also kind of enjoyed hearing his perception of american history being from a foriegn country. All in all, a great class.
Very cool teacher. Took a little while to get used to his sense of humor. Be sure to take notes because the tests are directly from the lectures. It was very interesting to hear him talk about Nazi Germany since he's German.
His lectures are very clear, insightful, and interesting. He follows his syllabus. He gives you notes on each chapter/unit which you need to add to during lecture. He loves to answer questions and is consistently available during office hours. Having the book helps a lot, but is not completely necessary. He takes attendance round the middle of class
Hauck takes some getting used to. He's a bit shy at first, but toward the end of the semester, he loosened up and told lots of jokes. The syllabus is very clear. GO TO CLASS! He gives you hints on what will be on the tests. No quizzes. Exams are fairly difficult -- make sure you study them. One big research paper at the end of the semester.
excellent teacher only four essays. go to class and take notes.
Professor Hauck is an awesome instructor. He is witty, knowledgeable and somehow makes even boring periods of History interesting. He's from germany and its interesting to get his pov on American events that occurred before he moved to the states. I took him for Hist 1&2. Highly Recommend!!!
Professor Hauck is extremely knowledgeable in his content. If you expect to pass this class without studying, find another professor. If you take notes, read his handouts and read the chapters assigned you will do well in his class. If you enjoy Christopher Walken, you will also enjoy his lectures ;)
He's great! He is very quiet, but he is very funny. He is very interesting to listen because of his humor. He tells you exactly what you need to do, take his notes and pay attention in class. He is very helpful
He is such a nice, quality teacher! Reading the textbook and paying attention to lectures (sometimes he gives you hints on what will be on the test) are key if you want to do well on the test. I admit, history isn't exactly my favorite subject, but he makes it more bearable. If you need help, just ask! He's pretty nice in answering questions.
Straight forward. Tests based on lectures, power point, and review. Do not take class if you are unwilling to study or unable to handle professors who talk the entire lecture.
Professor Hauck is awesome. His lectures are interesting (well, as interesting as history can be), and he gives chances for extra credit. If you pay attention in class OR read the book, you'll do well. He's also a very nice, easy-going guy. I actually learned a lot of history from him and became interested in the topics. I highly recommend him!
I actually loved this teacher! If you have a question about history, he can and will answer it. He made our research paper optional and gave a lot of extra credit. He gives you everything you need to succeed and I barely used the textbook. He’s a seriously interesting guy and I would recommend him for a normally dull history class!
Great professor. His tests cover the material, he tells you what will or won't be on it, and very willing to help his students do better. He gave many opportunities for makeup or retests. You need to be in class almost daily to make a good grade, but that should go without saying.
4 tests. He's picky on the short answer. I took him for the second half of HIST 1302, yet learned that he makes you remember dates. Decent professor though. I recommend Welch.
He is very willing to help students pass his class. He gave numerous opportunities for retests or makeup tests on his own time. The short answer questions are easy -- the date has to be within the correct decade. That's a large margin of leniency. You need to take notes and be in class to make a good grade.
I am currently taking this class. Even though I took AP history classes in HS I have found this class to be quite challenging. There are 4 tests for the . You are required to.know the dates on the short answers and there is an essay.on each test. The power points aren't very helpful for the actual test questions. He is very picky on SHORT ANSWERS.
The most amazing history teacher I've ever had!! His tests are easy as long as yo study the material because everything is very straightforward. I took him in the spring semester for HIST 1301 as well as the summer semester for HIST 1302, he gives excellent feedback and allows make up tests. I would recommend him to all who have to take history.
3rd time taking US Hist 2. wish i would have known about this professor prior. his class isnt easy, its rote memorization like normal history classes. but he is thorough, his power-points extremel helpful, and he tells you exactly what will be on the test. the short answer questions on the tests are a big portion, study those and the rest is pretty
honestly, gerald is an absolute babe.
Interesting professor, but maybe I paid more attention because I think he's a total hottie.
Great professor. You need to go to class and pay attention if you are looking for an A.
Super awesome during summer classes, he doesn't require short answer either! Super cool and cuts off the parts we don't need to know or just isn't on the test. However that being said he teaches very very well
Hauck is clearly intelligent and educated in his field (thank god)---But his style is outdated and his grading techniques are atypical. His classes are lecture-only, with constant note-taking. He does NOT offer extra credit and if you earn an 89.9 on an exam, it's a B all day long as far as he is concerned. No curving exam grades, either.
I had him for History 1301 and his grading criteria is absurd, he gives evaluations after the drop out deadline since almost all his students fail the course.
Professor Hauck is an incredible professor whose lectures are well thought out and clear. I see a lot of feedback about how hard he is, but honestly I've never had an issue. He hands out a list of what all he may cover on the test, as long as you study that there should be no problem.
I really enjoyed Prof. Hauck's class. I don't really understand people who complain about it. It is pretty simple, if you study for the tests you will pass. And Prof. Hauck tells you EXACTLY what will be on the test. So if you skip class and miss taking notes, or if you are lazy and don't study then you will fail. I enjoyed his lectures.
Such an awesome, funny, knowledgeable professor. Awesome lectures and makes the class enjoyable and exciting. Took US History 1 and 2 with him, would take again!
Lectures were thorough and pretty interesting! Tests are no breeze, he expects you to know your stuff, but he's clear about what you need to memorize. If you take good notes in the lecture and review well before the test, you never need to pick up the textbook.
Teacher is a nice person. it is fun to listen to hear his lectures but he is a very tough grader.I passed because of the short questions on the test.
The stuff taught in class was not hard. He adds a lot of things based on his PowerPoint to make the lectures very informative. Need to memorize the lectures and names but not dates for the test. Nice teacher and responsible. You do not need a textbook.
Super interesting class. He's a cool guy! I dozed off in a few lectures, but in my defense he is basically telling bedtime stories with a smooth German accent. Pay attention and you will pass. I didn't even use the textbook.
Overall, nice teacher. I took him during summer so i did not have to do short answers, just multiple choice. Just print out his powerpoint and learn that by heart, you'll get AT LEAST a low A. Not very easy class, but not a hard class, either. You have to put effort if you want to make good grade.
I honestly don't know if its just me not likely history but i did not enjoy the class. dreaded showing up every Tuesday and Thursday. i felt like his voice was monotoned. there was no enjoyment if the subject in class. its like he was reading off a textbook the whole time. I mean to be positive he did know what he was talking about.
To do well on the tests you have to complete and understand every question on the learning objectives. In addition, approximate dates are required on short answers and he is extremely picky on them.
One of my favorite professors I've ever had. 4 tests and a paper, tests come with a review. Great lectures, makes history interesting. I dropped out of history twice before I found him and so I took history 1 AND 2 with him. Def take this professor.
Good professor! There were 4 tests and one paper. I printed his lecture power points (he provides them) and obsessively copied everything he said as he lectured. He covered literally everything that was on the test. He provides the short answer list (and talks about them) and I didn't even use the objectives .
Didn't even bother with the book. He lectures off of Power Points and I just copied the notes down by hand (you can also print them out yourself). 4 tests which are pretty straight forward: 40 multiple choice and 8 of 10 short answer. And the essay if you want above a C(he's lenient with the deadline). Overall, a great non-American professor. :)
I like how he gives out the learning objects but his slide shows don't help. He should base his teaching style more on following an outline from the book or he shouldn't require a book because there's too many things you have to read at once to understand it completely.
Great professor! Everything that is on his tests were covered in his power point. Come to class, take notes, and study and you will pass with an A.
His PowerPoints do not help at all. I printed all off them and still barely would make Cs. His tests arent clear and he has no review. The whole class depends on the test, and I literally busted my ass and reviewed Cs. There just wasnt a clear path for success. I wish it was more enjoyable.
Hauck is a good professor. Some may think he is boring but he made it very easy to understand historical events I never really understood. Go to every class and take good notes, study them especially the written questions (he lets you know what will be on the test) and you should pass. He's so sweet too.
Come to class, take good notes and you'll pass pretty easy. Sit up front and voice record his lectures. Everything on the 4 exams are covered during his lectures. If he doesn't have enough time to cover the topic, it won't be on the exam. I never even used the book, save yourself the money.
By far, my favorite professor. He's terrible at e-mails, but otherwise he excels at everything else. His lectures are based off slides with presentations that are satirical with dry humor; very accommodating during office hours, and his tests are multiple choice with 8 short ans questions. I took him for both history courses. Do study though.
I absolutely hate history so i'm just not interested and don't blame him at all for my grade. I didn't try much and he makes the material clear. He is a little monotone but what history teacher isn't.
I specifically made an account to rate this professor. Mr. Hauck was AWESOME. He made lectures easy and understandable with a hint of humor. Study the study guides and review notes and you should be solid. He tells you what's gonna be on the test which is added value. HIGHLY recommend.
I am only on week 3 of my 16 week course, but Gerald Hauk (Ph,D) is great. He is very laid back and funny. I am already planning to grab him for HIST II. Do not miss class, print the slides from BB, and take notes while he lectures. Little use of the course book required but you should read ahead for class participation and better understanding.
I enjoyed History with Gerald Hauck. Although your grade in his class is solely determined by your four test scores, which can make it arguably more difficult to get an A, Hauck's humorous annotations to history make the class pretty enjoyable. Solid choice for the history credit, you shouldn't mind his lectures.
Professor Hauck is great! His class is quite enjoyable and he makes history funny! His tests are easy overall, with the exception of a few difficult questions. The textbook isn't really required, but it definitely helps clarify confusing topics. Very rarely though, his humor might go overboard. Otherwise, he is amazing and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND him!
If you want to learn a lot about American History and enjoy learning about it, take this professor. He seems to love teaching and has a lot of entertaining stories about historic events. I highly recommend Professor Hauck for American history.
Took professor Hauck for the Spring 16 week, taking the next class this fall. Class was test heavy. Barely passed with a C, but it was enjoyable. I suggest not missing class, the lectures go over the study guide, you can skim the book, but you can still pass without it, just STUDY! Do the study guide, and study it! Exams are multiple choice.
Professor Hauck is a gentleman and a scholar! Took him for US HIST I & II. Read his lecture pp & the lesson objectives before class. Follow along and pay attention when he says "you're going to want to remember this" because it will be on the exam! 4 exams, 1 essay. I suggest printing the lectures (3 slides a pg). Takes effort, but it's worth it!
Dont even pay attention to his power points. Every test will only be over stuff in the book. He wont tell you that though. And the tests are very badly drawn up. Because they are questions you have no idea the answer to. And the quizlet that they give you to study for. Only like 2 out of 30 questions will be on that test. Dont bother with that.
Dr. Hauck is a fantastic history professor! He makes the slides very accessible and has all of the objectives laid out ahead of time. It is important to read the book, although he might tell you where to skim ;). Overall he is a great history professor. If I had to take another history class, it would be with him, one-hundred percent!
Professor Hauck's lectures are really well organized and help provide a narrative context to the information given. He's knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material. He can be pretty stingy with higher grades though, so you have to study very hard to get a good score because it's a LOT of information and only four grades.
Knowledgable professor, he knows what he's talking about and if you pay attention his lectures are actually pretty interesting. The class is test heavy though so make sure you show up to class and take good notes. There are only 4 tests and 1 essay, so make sure you pay attention in class.
He was my favorite professor that I had last semester. He is super caring and I always enjoyed his lectures. You could tell that he really had a passion for this subject and he loved sharing his knowledge. His lectures were also very funny at times. You must take good notes but he gives you everything you need to succeed. Study and you'll pass!
Great instructor! Class broken up into 4 UNITS & 1 RESEARCH PAPER. Each unit consists of 2 QUIZZES & 1 EXAM. Quizzes are open book. One is typically 10 MC, the other is 2 short essays. Quizzes are 1 hour. Exams are 1 hour of 30 MC. YOU CANNOT PASS THE EXAM WITHOUT LISTENING TO & TAKING NOTES FROM LECTURES. Research paper required if A or B wanted.
He isn't the most exciting lecturer, but he's easy to follow. I would print his PP lecture notes out and take notes on them. You will need to at least scan the book to find the info, because the wording on tests and quizzes can come directly from there and not always his lectures. A lot of work, but doable. Open note timed quizzes and tests!
No extra credit and his tests were hard to ace. I sat down, listened, and took notes on ALL his video lectures but none were useful at all. He gave a retest option for the first test because everyone just did terrible. You'd think that because all his students are failing he'd give us extra credit but NO. very much giving me bad professor vibes.
Tests are very hard even with books, notes, and 2 brains. The study guide does not help you. I worked so hard that for sure I know my history, but my grades are not here to prove it. The professor is very good but the class is not adapted for an online course.
Hauck is an AMAZING professor; I wish I could have him for more classes Tips to do well: READ the textbook, watch his lectures + fill out learning objectives sheet as you listen, study the learning objective sheet bc that's what exam questions come from. Exams are open note but still have to know the content -questions can be direct from textbook!
I was very hesitant going into this class as it is only graded on 4 tests and mostly self guided. The lectures and the objectives gave you a really good idea of what would be on the test. If you take this professor I recommend taking detailed notes on the lectures cause that where most test info will be.
Would not recommend taking this online, it is a lot of work and the exams are NOT easy. Make sure you read every chapter, do ALL of the objectives, watch his lectures, and use YouTube/whatever resource you can to understand the material. Was unexpectedly my hardest class this semester. Definitely not an easy A.
in my experience, he was quick to answer emails and really nice! his lectures are pretty long, but they're definitely helpful (more so than the textbook). tests weren't super difficult, but you did need to pay attention to the lecture. take good notes and you'll be good to go. pretty good professor in general :)
study the objective outlines and know the who, what, and when for short answers on the 4 tests, you'll pass easily
Let me start off by saying I absolutely hate history. Never liked it, never found it interesting, but this Prof made it easy to learn and understand. I did purchase the textbook but after reading 1 page, I closed it back up and never used it again. He goes through everything in his lectures and that's how I learned best. Take his class.
This class was great! Professor Hauck is amazing at what he does; he made learning the material super interesting and fun. His lectures are really helpful (not boring at all). I didn't need the textbook, watching his lectures was good enough for me.
The class was very easy to complete. There is a textbook requirement, but his lectures are really good and did not need to read the textbook. If you spend a decent time learning his material, then the class will be an easy A.
I took the short five week summer course for this class, and Professor Hauck recognized that the class was short and changed the class requirements accordingly. He responded to emails quickly and was easy to access. Overall, he is a great professor, super understanding, highly recommend.
4 units with 4 lessons in each. Test over each unit. 30 MC questions and 8 short answers on each test. Not hard to get an A if you study. Gives clear learning objectives which is a great study guide. One research paper at the end (accepted or rejected). He is very caring and his lectures are wonderful. DO show up to class and take good notes.
Quizzes every week, lots of reading or watching the 1/half hr recorded lectures every week,Test every two weeks, one essay at end of semester, responds to emails fairly quickly. The tests very difficult if you aren't taking good notes or using your own flashcards to study repetitively. If you get below 70% he allows retest w/ max possibility of 70%
I took his online class. His recorded lectures were very helpful. As long as you watch lectures and take notes on learning objectives you will do just fine in his class. He is very understanding and responds to emails in a timely manner. I enjoyed this class. Would recommend to other students.
Extremely professional. Stays on topic and has a demonstrably clear breadth of knowledge on all subjects he brings up in class. Tests are very fair. Could not recommend his class more.
5 week history class is way too much work for the amount of time you have. I wouldn't recommend taking unless you're retaking the class, a history nut, or a very good student with a LOT of free time. Im telling you I worked 6-8hr every day to be able to pass the test happening every week. Reading 4 50 pg chapters is rough. Teachers great though. GL
I took him for History 1 and 2 and he was the best. His lecture slides are available to you always which is so helpful. There are 4 tests plus a paper at the end of the semester. The tests are so easy, everything on the lecture slides is on the test. Mostly memorizing dates, and vocabulary. Such a great professor overall, funny and very cool.
Took his class for History I, and was hoping to be able to take it for History II. Overall a Prof. Hauck is a very good communicator and makes sure you know what the course expectations are. 10/10 would take his class again.
The class is structured in a very high-difficulty grading setup. There's very little margin for error with so few assignments. It is extremely difficult to learn so many nuanced details but all will be tested over.
Professor Hauck is an incredible professor, I recommend watching his lecture videos and taking notes before class so you can really just focus to what he is saying in class. He is amazing and only grades based off of 4 tests and an optional research essay.
His class was the first history class where I actually absorbed the information. The course expectations were clear and as long as you study and do your work, you'll do well. There weren't a lot of assignments, and the tests were heavily weighted. I think he was a wonderful professor and would absolutely take one of his classes again.
Loved him! Took me a while to get used to his teaching style, but once I did I really enjoyed it. If you take him, lectures are optional but USE HIS POWER POINTS. Focus your notes on the learning objectives he gives. Quizzes are open note, use that. One paper for extra credit. No other writing. Very nice and willing to work with you.
Wouldn't recommend taking this US History I class unless you have good study habits. The exams are difficult, as they require Respondus Lockdown Browser, which obviously means you can't use your book, notes, or review. Indeed, I read the previous reviews on here thinking that the exams were open books, until I found out they weren't, unfortunately.
This class was really good for an online class. The Learning Objectives (LO's) were a great help. It clearly showed what to expect on tests. Recorded Lectures and Lecture notes were provided. I personally relied the most on the recorded lectures and the learning objectives. Use the LO's to guide you through the textbook. Overall superb class!!
This was a pretty fun class with an awesome professor. There were a total of 4 quizzes and 4 tests, which are all the grades in the whole class. There's also an extra credit paper, but I didn't need it as the tests aren't hard. As long as you watch the recorded lectures and look at the lecture notes, you'll be fine. He is also very accessible too!
great guy and easy class! 4 tests worth 80 points each, 4 quizzes worth 20 each, extra credit paper worth 12. get a 360/400 for an A. gives you learning objectives and you use his lectures and textbook to study for tests/quizzes. he uses lockdown browser and webcam for tests but quizzes are open note, and quiz questions are on the test too.
Professor Hauck was the best! He is a funny caring, and loves to talk to his students after class and during office hours. He is always there to help you. I took his class last semester, and it was one of the easiest classes ever. He walks you through the guided notes before exams and answers any questions. I highly recommend taking him.
Really great p
He is okay but not the best.
Nice and funny professor. I took both hist w/ him. Watch the lecture vid online, see the lecture in person, and read the textbook. All notes taken from these will help you pass easy! This professor made these classes enjoyable for someone like me that doesn't enjoy the material much.
Professor Hauck's class can be challenging, but engaging with the material and using resources like Unstuck study for study prep made it manageable. The exams are tough, but the workload is reasonable overall.
I took this course asynchronously, and it was rough. The tests seemed to contain information that wasn't covered in the textbook or lectures at all, and in general they were Difficult. I spent 15 hours studying for one of them and I got a 76% on it- compared to every other history class, this one was the hardest by far.
Awesome Professor. He is super chill and cares about you doing well. I was fully online for this class, and you could get by with just listening / watching his lectures and reviewing notes from those. A textbook is available as well and is helpful as a supplemental resource but not necessary reading in my opinion.
Great Professor! I have no trouble understanding the materials or anything. The class was straightforward, and the instructions were clear. Just watch his lecture videos and learn from the PowerPoint, and you'll be fine. There're some vocabs that you'll need to google if you don't have textbook. He's really responsive and caring.
I really liked Mr. Hauck's lectures, which I relied on more than the book. He lets you know exactly which questions from the hw to study before each (multiple-choice) exam, but if you want an A you do have to study thoroughly because a good amount of the test questions had tricky phrasing. Quizzes were open note!
One of my faves! Super chill & funny guy, always happy to chat or help after class. His PPTs are available online, recommend taking notes before so you can just listen to his lectures. 4 quizzes, 4 unit exams, 1 extra credit paper. Study guides tell you what to focus on. Exams make you think but aren't too hard. I'll be taking him again for HIST 2!
I was nervous to take this class since history isn't my strength, but Mr. Hauck made it doable. It's study-heavy, but he allows open-note test retakes for up to a 70, which really helps. There are 4 tests and one paper, which was extra credit. If he offers it, definitely do the paper. Highly recommend him!
Pretty straightforward class. 4 quizzes, 4 exams, and a paper for extra credit. The quizzes are all open note and the exams are easy to study for as long as you know the learning objectives. Fill out the study guide before the exam and you should be just fine! He is a very sweet professor too.
Took the asynchronous 5-week summer session. 4 open quizzes, 4 online proctored tests. His lectures are very clear and covers everything necessary, relied more on them than the textbook.
The professor was so helpful and detailed with all of their powerpoints. The class was not hard at all, I just wasn't putting my best effort and I still passed due to the professors kindness of retrys on tests. Just read the book and/or the power points and it will be so easy. It's almost impossible to fail!
