I should cut him some slack, as I had him during his first term teaching, but we was pretty bad. Everything we did was right out of the book; no variations. He was very unorganized and didn't really know what he was doing most of the time. Also, he never graded anything really. If you go to class and do the work, you should do just fine.
I will also cut him some slack since he had never taught before. It took until the week before our final to get any grades back. Several stuff was missing from much of the class. He can also be easily talked into changing your grade. Everything is straight out of the book. All in all, he is a very nice guy, just needs a little more experience.
this guy is worst never take his class
I also had this prof during his first semester of teaching, but I thought the class was easy. It required very minimal outside homework. All we did in class was create spreadsheets and databases which we followed right from the book. It may not have been the most enjoyable class, but it was an easy A. He's a genoerus grader too with some ec.
Overall a decent professor, at times unorganized, but very sympathetic to any problems. Exams are tough, but manageable.
Quite possibly the easiest professor ever. I don't understand all the bad comments. Definitely my easiest class this semester, quizzes are open book, tests you can use notes. Answers all questions and emails quickly and always willing to help, you just have to stay on his good side and don't screw off during class. I'd love to take him again.
Exams are hard but managable. Lecture are boring but he is very intellectual.
3 Quizzes, 3 Exams, 2 group projects. Read the book and study the practice problems. He is very reasonable and some in class assignments keep the class from being super boring, but it is a boring subject, especially if it is not your major. Lets you use a cheat sheet.
Didn't use book in class except to study for exam. Extensive amount of material covered - annoyingly heavy on computations. Lectures are long and boring; he tries to keep em entertaining w/humor & exercises. Other than that, he's very flexible and understanding of students' circumstances. Nice teacher.
Didn't use book except to study for exams. Lectures are long and boring. He tries to keep u entertained w/humor and in-class exercises. Not an extremely difficult grader. Other than that, he's very helpful and understanding of students' circumstances (in case of emergencies of missing exam). Great professor.
Good MBA course. He is very experienced and has practical examples of material. His speakers were very interesting and played "the game" at a high level.
This class was one of the harder ones I took. It requires knowledge of stats and math. if you have not taken DS300, I recommend taking it before this class. You have a homework assignment each week, group project, and three tests. You also get to use one page of notes on the exam. I worked as i normally would in any class and got an A-.
hes a nice guy....very understanding of students problems and also helpful.i agree his lectures can be boring and he jst reads slides. but ur allowed a note sheet in the exam which is very helpful. overall RECOMENDED! jst study 3 days before the exam and ull get ur A and also keep up wit the hw. group project is fun!
The math used in this class is 7th grade algebra. So easy. He is nice and helpful, but can be a little boring. The project is actually helpful. Use page of notes on exam. Recommended.
The class was pretty easy. Didn't use the book much pretty much studied everything from his slides. Be sure to go over the material often and ask questions. His lectures were a little boring but you can make it.
He is a very reasonable professor and tries to make a boring subject seem interesting. Do buy the book, though. Every week, you'll need to turn in a problem from the book (very easy). Very little reading needed to get an A compared to most classes. Just be sure to think logically and you'll do fine.
This class was boring. Not at all due to professor's fault, he has a lot of enthusiasm and great real world examples to share, but the subject material gets boring quickly. If at all possible, take the class in 2-sessions vs. once a week 3-hour class. It's very hard to focus on this material for 3 hours. Overall, an interesting and caring prof
Holowicki is an awesome teacher. His tests are really hard but he curves a lot. He curves his classes so that the class average is a B. So if you don't do well on a test don't worry about it too much, just make sure that you get a B+ on all of his tests for an A. Get the older version of the book b/c its barely used & its the same as the current.
The material covered in this class is boring, but Professor Holowicki did a good job at keeping the class alert. His tests are ok but fairly detailed. Homework and group project are easy and graded fairly. Read the assigned chapters and the slides that correspond to the study guide and youll do fine.
This class is not an easy-A but not a blow-off either. Read the textbook pay attention during the lectures, and do the homework and you should get an A. The project was time-consuming but not hard.
This teacher is SO BAD. He might have ruined my chances in gettin into the college. DANGER DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Very nice instructor, however his class was quite boring at times. All he does is lecture and use PowerPoint presentations which he thinks are cool. Group Project was also very boring. Also allows you to use cheat sheet on test, even though you will most likely do bad on it anyway since the cheat sheet will probably not help.
Overall, pretty good class. Exams are detailed but you get to use a cheat sheet, so cram all the formulas and definitions that he covers on the powerpoint lectures on it and you will do fine. Group project is also fairly easy, the hardest part is finding an individual to interview. He is helpful and really enthusiastic about the subject.
This class destroyed my 4.0. Honestly, I did better in calculus. He's a really friendly guy, but his tests are murder. Overall, he has a fairly good command of the material, but he's not the best at explaining the mathamatical problems. Good Luck!
Hard class. Lets you use notes, but they end up not being extremely helpful. I tried reading all of the material from the book as well as slides and that didn't help much either. Just pay close attention to what he says and you might do well.
Take DS 300 with him. He made it so easy, honestly one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. It was in the summer too. First time teaching it so that is why it probably was easy. Allowed a note sheet on test all homework done in groups, made hard class easy
He's a good teacher and pretty funny although I could never tell if it was intentional. Big project, get the book, go to all classes and you'll be fine. If you participate in class he will like you more.
Great guy. Extremely helpful. He wants his students to learn. Took him for DS too. I heard the other guy is brutal. Holowicki is very easy going and very fair, if you attend class and put forth some effort, an A is very likely.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. His test are very hard and destroyed my grade. Because of him I didn't get my usual about a 3.0
A good instructor. You must put in a good effort. He gives lots of homework and a big project. His tests he allows a cheatsheet which helps. If you study, an A is doable. He loves participation. Overall, he is a decent guy and I would take him again.
He lets you have a FULL page of notes front and back for everyone of his exams. With that said you get what you put into those cheat sheets because you learn a lot along the way of making one. The project can be annoying if you are teamed with a lot of slackers so choose wisely. Taking him for DS 300 and he lets you have a cheat sheet too.
Mr. Holowicki is a great professor. He was very relaxed and knows his material well. Overall 3 exams, One big group project powerpoint with ten page report. If you miss one day you may be behind. However, I loved his class just make sure you get with a great group of people for group project. 3 homework assignments but you can pair with someone.
His lectures didn't really help that much except he gives you practice problems galore that really help you work through and understand the material. You also have two group data analysis assignments as well as group homework problems and 3 tests.
He was passionate about the subject. His grading was fair and at sometimes he would assign online homework without giving us a criteria on what he wanted. He does allow a cheat sheet on the test, almost 90 percent of the test is based on the Power Points. Overall a good teacher.
He tends to ask minute details and be nit picky. He is a good teacher, but his tests are hard (they aren't torture, though). I studied a lot and I got an A- in the course. Try to take it in a later section know someone who has it earlier or who has old exams; he recycles tests. 3 tests, semi-challenging project and quick hw assignments.
3 tests, have a full page of notes front and back... he gives u study guide and tells u exactly whats on the test. So all u do is just write them on the notes. So tests are easy. U have one huge project, it isnt hard, rather time consuming. He is very into what he teaches and u definetely will learn a lot.... Oh and hw is a piece of cake
Large group project and presentation due at the end of the semester. Likes participation - so raise your hand and speak up! Allows a full page of notes for tests which is helpful with essays and calculations, also provides an exam review to let you know what he will cover. Textbook needed for homework problems. Would take him again! Great teacher.
I LOVED his class, and I thought that it was very interesting. He was funny and cared a lot about his students. Best professor at the COB. His tests aren't easy, study and cram as much as you can onto the cheat sheet and you'll be fine. IMPORTANT: Choose a good group for the final project. The project can be fun if you end up with a good group.
He is a very caring professor. The class is very interesting but the exams are very tough! You have to work your butt off to pull an A. Even if you get C's on every test, you'll end up with an A. Attendance is mandatory. 3 tests and 1 group project. There's a few hw assignments, he curves one test, and gives one extra credit opportunity. Great guy!
Very passionate about the subject, and his lectures are really interesting. As long as you come to class and pay attention you'll be ok.
Good lectures and practical homework. The tests are hard and the study guide doesn't narrow much down so start peeping a week in advance. The group project kills (16+ pgs single spaced when all is said and done). He cuts lectures short to allow for presentations so you have teach yourself the material for Exam III :(
This class was challenging but I learned an enormous amount about OM. Lectures were very good and vital to doing well in the class. Lots of relevant supplemental information (aticles, guest speaker, ect) really drive home the subject matter. The team project was a boot camp in team dynamics so stay on top of it.
I had Holowicki for OM 300 and DS 300. I got an A in both classes. He is a great teacher and he is very good at clarifying. Don't be afraid to ask questions and go to his office hours if necessary. I took him in the summer for DS 300 and his exams got easier as the summer went by. He is your best option for DS 300 so take him for it!!
Pay attention in lecture, read the chapter before class, gives a study guide before the exam and allows you to use 1 sheet of notes (front & back). Make sure to participate every class and stay engaged (do not use electronic devices). He is a very animated speaker and engaging. Does not really bore you. Helps as long as you ASK for it.
Best professor I've had. He is excited about the material and actually keeps your attention. Choose a good group for the project and good person for the buddy teams, not your friends that may brush it off. Test suck, you think you are doing well but no, that is not nor will ever be the case. Pay attention. Create an amazing answer sheet.
I think he is an alright teacher, but his exams can be tricky if you did not understand the material or the math behind it. The group project was probably the most difficult because there are so many steps to deal with. Execution is important.
Great professor, extremely knowledgeable. You get to use a note sheet on exams: handwritten, front and back. Get a good group for the group projects.
He is extremely picky when he grades and rarely gives a 100% on anything. If you attend every class the max particip you can get is 87%. He also has a hard time talking about all of the material in his lectures, despite the lengthy class. Out of 20 pages of slides, he covers maybe 15. Overall he's a nice guy but I didn't enjoy his teaching methods.
Everyone is just stupid if you dont get atleast 90% on his exams, which are beyond easy if you just read the review guide. Math is middle school level in difficulty, and he always gives you every number you need to just plug it into the formula and get an answer. Just write every point on the review guide on the notecard and you will get an A.
Seriously one of the best professors at UM-Dearborn. He is so passionate about what he teaches and he truly cares that his students succeed. His exams were easy if you reviewed all of the material he went over and what's on the study guide. Awesome guy and very knowledgeable.
This class is NOT easy at all, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Holowicki is a FANTASTIC person and professor but the class itself is difficult and you need to stay on top of your game. The group project is VERY important so make sure you do NOT slack off on it. Read the book, and listen CAREFULLY in class.
Holowicki is a great choice for OM; class consisted of 3 tests, a group project, homework and attendance. Make sure you pick a good group for the project, because he is extremely tough when grading it. Tests are a carbon copy of the study guide, copy everything down on it and you'll be fine (allows a cheat sheet on tests!!). Curves by 1/2 a grade!
The exams aren't too bad since you get to use a cheat sheet; the study guides give you almost exactly what to put down on them. The group project is big make sure your group is on top of it and doesn't put it off until the last minute. Overall he's a great professor that makes you work for your grade.
Great prof! Great lecturer, and he allows cheat sheets and easy hw assignments that help grade
Professor H is a nice guy who knows his stuff. I think this is the first time he is teaching this class, and it's apparent that he has some rough edges to smooth out. Get ready to teach yourself. Many students are having trouble in the class and are praying that he curves.
Nothing personal but he is teaching this class of more of a supply chain class. OM300 is an intro class. He treats this class as if you already know everything about OM. The group project is a nightmare. He is way to picky about it. Don't let him letting you use notes on the test fool you it doesn't help. Avoid take someone else.
the homework is EASY, the project is EASY, the class is EASY, the subject is EASY. why then does this professor make this class unnecessarily hard? the cheat sheet is laughable, it wont help. you've been warned. dont forget that your learning from a failed businessman at that. i dont care what big names he worked with.
this class for my minor. i was hoping for an easy A, with no intention of working that hard, because to me this is a business class; one that i had to work waaay too hard for. the material is easy, but the exams arent what you expect. i didnt read most chapt. i would recommend this class to someone thats really interested in the subject matter.
Does not grade homework and the project so get ready for the anxiety that comes with not knowing whether or not you will pass. Not versed in the material. I agree with the other person who posted that you will be teaching yourself. He's a nice person, but he needs to stick to lower level classes. Made it worse than stats, and it shouldn't have been
Take with someone else to save yourself unnecessary stress. Exams are not what you expect, although they're not hard, when he hands back your results it's completely unexpected.
expects you to know too much for an intro class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE, THIS CLASS WILL WRECK YOUR GPA BADLY. The material seems really easy to understand but exams are arbitrarily difficult. Its frustrating because this class isn't supposed to be hard, but he makes it impossible.
again, im in engineering, and i took this class for a minor. I got "A's" on all of the work, but didnt study for exams, thats my fault not his; i never really read much of the book. he's a very enthusiastic lecturer and is willing to help you. if you really study, you should be fine. i didnt, i just wanted to pass and leave.
The exams are way harder than they need to be. I studied for weeks ahead of schedule and still couldn't get better than a B- on any of the exams. He is very passionate about what he's teaching, and he will meet with you during office hours if you have questions. The group project was very stressful but I loved his class.
Cons-he's disorganized, 90% of work wasnt graded until after the final, exams were harder than what they should have been, EVERYTHING had errors such as typos or bad math, hes disrespectful to some students,(not me,but some comments he made to others made me uncomfortable), expects you to teach yourself linear programming. Pros- he curves and tries
Professor Holowicki allows you to use a full cheat sheet, front and back, on his exams. Take advantage of that, and you should do just fine. The group project is a lot of work and a large portion of your grade so make sure you get a good team.
Very passionate about what he is teaching. With that said, his test are much harder than they should be or what he makes them out to be. He expects you to be an "expert" in the textbook and lecture material. Lecture can be a little dry if operations isn't the love of your life. Expect to get around one letter grade lower than you think you will.
professors good, but unnecessarily hard for a business class. business students are just overpaid secretaries, they're not engineers.
His lectures were long, but he's really enthusiastic about the subject. There's a big group project and presentation that seems hard in the beginning but once you get started it's a breeze. There were 3 tests and he let us use a cheat sheet.
He was passionate about the class and pushed for class discussion. Big group project throughout the semester and a few exams. Can use cheat sheet on exams but only helps if you dig deep into textbook. You work with a partner basically all semester. Study the whole semester and you'll do okay.
3 exams, cheat sheet allowed. group project, and hw buddy group. my hw buddy never helped with the hw, and he also didn't do much in our group project, which made a little harder on the rest of us, but it wasn't that hard. he has a clear criteria for what he wants from the project. exams weren't that bad. everything was from the lecture notes
Be careful when choosing your homework buddy, they are going to be part of your semester-long project. He is very enthusiastic about the subject, therefore there is a lot of material on the test. Write down all the slides on your cheat sheet and understand the deeper meaning and you'll be fine. Also, start the project as soon as possible.
Avoid at all costs. He is passionate about the field but is terrible at running a class. Only talks about what he feels like at the time, his tests are super hard (which is basically the only thing that counts) and grades other assignments very hard. Gave a curve at the end but it didn't help ABSOLUTELY ANYONE. If you miss, you might as well drop.
Doesnt explain concepts very well. Group project is big and hard to construct. Quizzes are impossible even with a cheat sheet. He does let you drop your lowest quiz score. I would recommend taking with someone else.
Very passionate/knowledgeable about the field, just not good at presenting it. Lectures are very dry and boring hard to pay attention to. Make sure you form a good group for the project takes good communication to do well. Very tough grader on exams and homework, cheat sheet only helps form remembering the equations
Overall a good professor. I was told prior to the class that his tests were ridiculous so i wrote literally every single note slide onto my cheat sheet and ended up finishing with an A. Group project isn't too bad but choose your group wisely and genuinely pay attention. You'll be fine.
His slides and textbook material are completely different so it makes it harder to study for his tests. We had 5 exams, Homework and a Team project throughout the entire semester. Gives study guides for exams which have MC, Math, Essay and T/F. Drops lowest exam score. He is very nice but also a tough grader. Choose your group wisely
Best professor I have had this semester! Very knowledgeable and passionate about the topics at hand. Professor Holowicki is also sensitive to student input/questions and encourages a lot of participation in classes. Lastly, grading criteria is clear for all assignments, though exams can get difficult. Highly recommend this professor overall.
Probably the most annoying class I've ever taken at this school. The project is very unreasonable, so good luck if you don't know anyone that works in healthcare or manufacturing. The only professor I had this semester that made the class more inconvenient given the quarantine.
Hes terrible. His lectures and exams are completely different. His comments and criticism are unprofessional. He makes the group project online but requires more work than its worth. Pick different professor.
Don't take this professor
The group project that lasts the whole semester was extremely inaccessible during this pandemic. There are multiple other assignments throughout the semester that aren't that bad because it's only working with another student. However, his lectures are extremely boring and he uses song names hidden in the lectures to track attendance. Don't take.
This class should not be this difficult. Its easy material. He is just the worst. His class is so frustrating it isnt worth taking. Wait till another professor is teaching
I was constantly reading, watching lectures and working on the group project. I thoroughly prepared for the tests but still only received at C at best. He never released the answers to the online tests so I never had an opportunity to see what I got right/wrong. Do not take this guy.
Pay attention to the slides and the review guide he hands out for the exam. Really nice guy and he cares about his students. His lectures can get confusing, but mainly pay attention to what is on the slides. 3 exams and a group project.
Holowicki took over for another professor who dipped out mid semester. He did a fine job for the situation he was given. People complain about him a lot but I think it's because they didn't go to lectures or listen to what he said. Exams were fair in my opinion, I didn't study as much as I should have and he still curved it 20%.
You will learn so much in this class. Great teacher!
A lot of teaching yourself in this course because 3hrs isn't enough to get through material. Tough grader, nothing is perfect, and doesn't put in grades. Curved exams, homework is worth 2pts exams are worth 50, gives extra credit. Big group project but it is actually fun once you get going on it.
