He make NO SENSE. You have to get 10 books that you will not understand a word of. OBSESSED with Japan. You can be talking about a totally unrelated topic and all of a sudden without warning you are talking about Japan. The prompts for the papers are hard to understand. Going to class doesn't help you at all. You will more then likely fall asleep.

This teacher is horrible. This class was definately a waste of time. The mid-term and finals were hard questions. I was not expecting to spend my whole semester on Japan when this was as ASIAN civilization course. Horrible would never take again!

history is hard enough for some people without trying to figure it out from him. He talks about how how you don't have to agree with him. This is a lie! If you don't agree with him, you will not only get a bad grad, but he will attack you personally in his comments on your work. very opinionated, not good. gets very mad about little things.

First off he is beyond boring, he makes would i felt like could have been a very interesting class a snooze fest. The worst of it tho is your grade maily relies on a couple of papers which he does not clearly state or give examples of what makes a good paper. basically save yourself and stay clear of iguchi for your own good

extremely hard professor. hard to understand. must attend every class. grades based on how much he likes you. he is not very nice if you get something wrong, yet he practically forces you to talk in class. his technique discouraged me from participating because he made people feel stupid if they got the question wrong. unless you absolutely love history and plan on participating in every lecture, attending every class, and reading 8 books- do not take him. his lectures have zero structure.. he just rambles on and on. there's no tests, just 4 papers which he grades fairly easy.. but it doesn't seem worth it to me

you are assigned 6 books and you read an average of 3 at a time, not to mention you are required to get another book from the library. You put a lot of work into papers for a teacher who CANNOT teach who doesn't care about you. Pointless and insulting, very unhelpful. DO NOT TAKE

I had him a couple of semesters ago. Could have been an interesting class. It wasn't. He starts his point and by the time he finishes his sentence you forgot what he's talking about. Not clear at all and expects way too much from a 100 class. Take Lacoss or somebody else. He is more concerned to prove how smart he is than to teach his students.

It is clear how immature and ridiculous he is, by the rating he entered himself right below me. Not Helpful, thinks he's Japaneses, probably a communist. Counted 238 times that he said "Um" in class. Not good professor at all. Should get fired...

This teacher sucks! all he does is talk about him self, grade your papers strictly, and rates himself on this website. He talks about stuff that could be interesting, but does a great job of making you fall asleep. Makes you read so much per week and expects so much of it to be remembered. If you can switch class immediately!!! HE SUCKS!

straight up awful. this guy bores you to death within minutes. i can learn more about history in 5 minutes on the internet than I did in a full semester of this class. Waste of time, got more accomplished when skipped. DONT TAKE!!!!

Worst teacher I have ever had! There is an insane amount of reading and he expects you to connect to all of those readings to get a good grade on your papers. He is a very tough grader too. I only skipped one of his lectures and I was still always lost. DO NOT TAKE!

Honestly the worst history class ive ever taken. His lectures are all over the place and dont go chronologically, and are boring. i had 12 books for this class and he expects you to read them all. He is a hard grader and does not help students to understand the material. avoid taking this teacher. he takes his job way to seriously for a 100 level.

No matter what you say it isn't right so then people are intimidated so the class quickly turned into him talking about Japan the whole time. I found him rude and arrogant. If your taking this as a gen ed I am sure you can find someone you will like much better. Oh yeah, there are 8 text books.

Just very difficult to succeed in his class, as it requires an impossible amount of reading. I took it as a freshman and I regret not dropping the class as it was a poor way to start my collegiate gpa

Awful teacher! Unclear on assignments and it seems like he doesn't even look them over when he grades them. He just picks a grade out of a hat and scribbles a couple words that you can't even read in return. All his lectures about things that aren't even significant to history, and he continues use the entire class period going off on tangents.

Absolute worst professor I've had at UW-L. He doesn't explain what he wants, the lectures are boring, and the entire class ends up zoning out about halfway through. Only 3 papers, each about 30-40% of the class grade. I do not recommend this professor at all.

I wouldn't recommend this class if you want to pass. He only gives out three papers for the entire semester, and the prompts are near impossible. He expects a lot out of you for a general education class. Do not recommend.

Honestly I would avoid having him. But if you do end up with him I'm telling you right now, read his assigned reading Heart of Darkness. He assigns maybe 7 or 8 books, I've done fine all year with just using google but on the final you NEED to know this book. 7-12 page paper is his final so just do yourself a favor and read this one please.

Professor Iguchi was not a great professor. I did not learn anything about history but more about random things. I would not recommend him as all you do is read 8 books over the course of the semester and write 3 papers. Professor Iguchi lectures for all class periods and there are no test. Easy to get a decent grade but a horrible class.

His lectures consist of facts being rambled off that may or may not be relevant to the class content. Class is graded on three papers and one easy quiz. He claims he wants you to be able to think for yourself, but it seems as if he cares more about letting you know how much he knows instead of making sure his students learn something.

Only take this course if you plan to major/minor in history and have a lot of history knowledge already. It should not be a 100 level course, it made me never want to take history again. All you do is listen to super long lectures he reads from sides then write extremely long papers (which unless you're a history genius, will not receive an A).

WARNING: do not take this professor. He is a condescending ass that complains about his life and is a professor only to prove he is smarter than students. He does not accept ideas that don't not agree with his and is very open about all of his views. 3 papers 1 quiz. assigned the last 7 page paper the day before finals started.

The first two weeks of his class, I thought everything was great. I did not understand why everyone did not like him, but I quickly learned. He paces back and forth, and picks on students. There have been several times that he singles someone out for not knowing an answer and makes everyone feel awkward. I would rather have a 7:45 then his class.

You take maybe one quiz and thats it. The rest are papers that are 4-6 pages long on books. You need to read so many books within a week or two then write about them and relate them to a piece of art. His comments back from your paper is not helpful at all. He gives no time to write the final paper even though its longer than the other ones.

Good at interpretation but a horrible professor. He belittles students for not knowing answers and has long and boring lectures with little organization. He puts his own feelings about history over facts. As a history buff, I was surprised by how often he ignored actual facts in favor of his world-view. Would not take again, rude and condescending.

First impressions matter and he was just all over the place and disorganized and everything he talked about did not relate to course material considering he always brings up his family somehow and is just very scatterbrained. Avoid if you want to stay sane.

Do NOT take Iguchi if you are planning to take a history gen ed. This professor treats you like you know nothing and complains constantly about the world and his students. He only has two papers but together they are worth 98% of your grade. He is obnoxious and do whatever you can to not take him.

He also assigns in class assignments and quizzes that he says, in total, are 1% of your grade, but then docs your grade further for "lack of effort" if you do not do them. I will firstly begin by saying that he's a great person, however he is not so great of a professor. The class is graded by two papers that make up the final grade. These papers are heavily dependent on the assigned readings and lectures that don't give direct answers. He expects you to throw away all you know about writing. Don't take if possible.

I felt so uncomfortable in his classes. His remarks are condescending, and, although he states that there is "no right answer," he openly tells students that they have "bad answers." Not to mention a lot of readings and expectations. Do not take if you get anxious easily and if you are not comfortable with the prof. swearing every 2-3 sentences.

You literally only have two essays in the whole semester that will determine your grade. They are 6-10 pages and the rubric/prompt is extremely broad. His lectures are as boring as watching paint dry. He talks for the whole hour. Do not take if you aren't good at writing

Iguchi is super nice and easy going, I genuinely like him as a person, but hes easily the worst professor or teacher Ive ever had. Dont take his class and expect to learn any objective material, youll know more about his personal life and apparent Japanese heritage than anything he teaches. It pains me to even go to class at this point.

I am a history major and I took this class to fulfill my history gen-ed and I almost changed majors because I thought every history class was gonna be like his. He had his moments, sometimes funny, but overall all over the place and disorganized. Like I would sit there in lecture with one note for the entire lecture because he was so all over.

I emailed for help with final paper and got a sarcastic and rude response. Not professional at all.

He is very unprofessional, during my time in his course he has forgotten to show up to class 5 times and never emailed us explaining why, his technology never works. He is self absorbed and only ever talks about himself most content you never will get through. Although the class was easy and you only have like 3 assignments total you never learn

You could not pay me to take a class with this man again. His class/teaching style isnt too difficult, but his rudeness and apathy was simply uncalled for. He was extremely rude, condescending, and downright mean. I am studying to be a teacher and I would literally never speak to students the same way he does. Take another professor or class.

Prof is so disorganized and all over the place. Lectures every class period but never makes any sense. Funny at some moments but you will not learn anything. Only a midterm paper and a final paper so if you fail one you fail the class. No showed class five times without sending an email for explanation but expects us to track our own participation.

Iguchi's lectures were so dry which made it very difficult to stay attentive in class. He also wouldn't record his lectures so if you were to happen to miss a meeting for some reason you couldn't look at what you missed. He would always say that if you didn't read the material you wouldn't pass, I didn't read the books, but I managed to pass.

Do not take this professor. Whole grade is two papers. He did not show up to 1/3 of the classes in the beginning of the semester and then said now you guys are on my schedule when he started showing up every class period at midterm. Didnt seem to care about our class and would sometimes cancel class because he was not prepared.

The most condescending person I have ever met. He constantly talks down to his students and treats us as if we were children. I would not take a class with him again in a million years.

He has a tendency to be condescending towards people in class when a answer is correct but is not the one he wants. He believes that if you miss a day, then you will not be able to get that information back. He also will go on a lot of rants during class.

You're given 4 chapter books and readings to do almost every night. When you do go to class, it is really hard to follow the lectures and he mostly just talks about himself. I did pass the class without reading the chapter books, but I hated the class so much, tough grader and the only grades the whole semester were 2 papers. Woudn't reccomend.

Avoid Iguchi at all costs if you want a good grade. As a high honors student who worked extremely hard, it did not matter. I came to every class and talked to him about the two only papers that were assigned (50 % each) and I got screwed on the last one. I have never received a grade lower than an A in any writing-based class until now. Good luck.

Would often be the only student to raise my hand, for how terrified other students were because he would degrade those whos answers were right to some degree, but not to his standard. Very self centered. As an English Major who tutors, not even I could write a paper to his standards.

He preaches you need to read the books but I found an online summary website to get the main points and still got a B. Very disorganized lectures, really hard to follow. Graded only on two papers through semester and very vague and open ended. I never read the books and made it fine so not totally necessary. Easy grader when it comes to papers but very frusturating professor to work with.

This class is super boring. He makes a lot of jokes during class, but not one time did anybody laugh all semester. 3 papers for this class, only grades. If you get an answer wrong in class, he will make sure you know you got it wrong. Avoid.

This is a review for HIS 373. As a history major, Iguchi is by far the worst history prof I have ever taken. He constantly belittles students that disagree with him and expects you to agree with him on everything he says. His attitude was terrible.His rubrics on papers were ill-defined and the papers were worth 45% each. Avoid him at all costs.

It is obvious that he has a strong passion for what he teaches, but he does not seem to care whether or not you succeed in his class. He lectures on mostly only pictures, and expects you to keep up when he talks fast. You have three books to read, and three papers to write. Prompts are annoying and hard to get a start with.

Genuinely dreaded going to this class. He cancelled several times due to illness and never responded to emails. Very rude in class and calls people out for absolutely no reason. Canvas was super unorganized and his lectures had little to no substance if you missed class. So happy I never have to take this class again.
