ALL OF HIS TESTS ARE 90% NOTES!! so do not miss any notes... other than that he gives a photo safari project which isnt that hard, most of the species are at santa fe zoo and UF natural history museum. Good teacher i recomend him.

This guy makes biology interesting. He is excited about what he teaches, so it makes it fun to learn. He makes difficult concepts easy to grasp, and his final is a photo project. Takes notes, go to class, study the night before, and you gotta A.

He exspects you to work hard. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will be fine.

cant add much that hasnt already been said, very good teacher. The classes arent easy, which is why easiness rating is low, but he makes it as easy as he can while making sure that you do learn something.

Dr. J is awesome, he does try to make every concept as simple as possible and will do as many examples until u understand it. cancels lab whenever...easy tests 90% notes...not much reading at all. and he's a cutie! general bio is not hard!

Dr. Johnston is wonderful! He clearly presents the info while also applying it to everyday life. Know your notes and the very little reading that he assigns and you will pass with flying colors. I wish he offered more classes for my major! YOU WON'T REGRET TAKING HIM! :)

Mr.Johnston is awesome. His class was really worth getting up to go to. I hated BIO until I took his class. He can really make you understand. I got a C but that is bc I didnt devote myself to the class. As long as you go to class take notes and review them its an easy A. Def. Recommend

great teacher, wonderful class. Couldn't be easier or more fun, really. You kind of just go to class, copy down what he says. Lab is a joke, he cancels half of them. The tests are exactly what he lectures on, word for word. i got perfect scores on the first two of them. Reccomend this teacher.

Dr. Johnston is a GREAT professor who has mastered the fine art of teaching and making you learn, while not trying to kill you with studying. I learned so much in his class! AWESOME teacher!!! Very passionate about what he does and is very interesting. It is best to show up and take good notes. Tests are harder, but not impossible if you keep up with the material. Dr. Johnston made biology so much easier than i thought it would be, mainly because he knows most of his students are non-science majors. He cancels lab half the time and the tests are 90% from the notes. The assigned readings are short and specific, but be sure to do them. Awesome Guy!

Professor Johnston is an awesome professor. He cancels half of the labs and his tests are 95% of his notes so make sure that you come to class. Just take good notes and study and DO GOOD ON THE PHOTO SAFARI and you will get an A.

I definitely recommend this guy! He is the best teacher I have ever had in any subject. I came into his class thinking I hated Biology and that I would just try to "get through it" but I left actually having learned alot of interesting stuff. He is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet!

Awsome professor and simply a really cool guy, keeps the class very intersting. Study for the tests (they are rough...many questions are short answer). He tells you everything you need to know on the tests and quizes. He gives out some extra credit and the last quiz was a take-home. Do well on the photo-safari (turn it in early for +5 bonus)!

I loved this guy. Best bio class I have EVER had. Any class taught by this guy is well worth it, I advise EVERYONE to take this professor, even if it may go into the night. And he's so dorky, it's HAWT.

Prof. Johnston was terrific! I'm DEFINITELY NOT a sci person, but i always liked going to his class. There are 3 tests, 2 quizzes, and a photo project...and those are your only grades, fyi. most classes are lectures, but he's very aware of his audience in Biology for non-majors. Lectures are very clear; definitely study hard4 tests!READ THE BOOK!

He is the most awesome teacher I have ever had. His love for Biology is so fun and he made this class easy to understand and fascinating in so many ways. Study the notes, do the photo safari and you will be set. He rocks!

I really liked this class. Maybe me understand things that I haven't understood in any other science class. He is interesting and fun. Not to hard of a class if you study for the test! Just take good notes and study for the test and you'll do great!

He is the best teacher EVER!! I LOVED his class! So far it's been the only class to keep my attention and be interesting for me throughout my whole experience at SFCC. I got an A with hardly studying and he super nice and nice to look at!

Go to class, listen to lectures, take good notes= key to success. He suggests reading the text, but it's not necessary to make an A. He's not big on the labs and offers extra credit occasionally. Tests are detailed but if you review notes not too difficult. Great experience overall!

I am what you call a bio dummy, i had no interest in the subject before this class. The way mr. johnston teachs is very clear, gives lots of exapmles! Awesome professor! Many people did poorly because they either didn't care, or they are stupid. If you are looking to breeze through a class, choose another professor. If you are willing to put some work in, go for it! I learned more in his class than any before it. Are you here to learn or get a piece of paper that means nothing?

Dr. J is a really nice guy and a great at lecturing, he keeps it pretty interesting. His quizzes and tests come right from the notes he gives you, so STUDY STUDY STUDY those notes!! do the photo safari carefully its worth 45 points! thats huge! class is based on points, not percentages. Johnston's class was pretty tough for being general biology. Attendance is not mandatory, but you miss so much in one day if you don't go. Tests are entirely from notes and usually pretty extensive. The class requires a lot of studying.. basically if you're a pretty dedicated student and study a lot he's good for you.

This is one of, if not the hardest classes I've even taken. He gives you the note, which is all you need to know, but most notes are 7pages each. Great teacher but the test and quizzes are crazy hard. Only take if you have the time and dedication to study like mad

I really liked this professor, and am recommending him to you. He teaches so that you will learn something every class, and does not get boring either. However biology does require studying, and his tests are of average difficulty.

Dr Johnston is awesome! THE best lecturer at SFC. You HAVE to take detailed notes though. Exams are 99% from lecture notes only 1% from text. Exams are comprehensive but not too tough if you study. Labs are easy and cancelled often. One piece of advice: start the photo safari early! It's worth repeating: this guy is the funnest lecturer at SFC.

Dr.J is a great teacher! His lectures are interesting but take good notes because most of the test are notes. Take extremely detailed notes because most of the tests are based off what he says in class. Definitely not an easy A but it is manageable if you work hard.

This is one of the best professors that I've taken at Santa Fe. He loves his job, and his attitude during lectures reflect that. 3 quizzes, 1 dropped, 3 tests on 3 units, with the last test as the "final" which is not cumulative. If you attend every class and pay attention, it's impossible to not get an A. He gives a ton of EC. I got an A+.

Dr. Johnston's THE best teacher at sfc! He's hysterical and teaches you really complicated stuff in ways that you understand and never forget it. His labs are SO easy and half of them were cancelled due to "it's late and it's a boring lab anyways". Tests are hard but not if you study well and go to class. Makes you laugh, makes you learn. Dr. Johnston is an awesome teacher. He cares about what he teaches and does a great job making the hard stuff pretty simple. You do need to study and take notes! He is a super busy man and is pretty scatter brained so stay on top of your work. Class tends to run a couple mintutes over so make sure you sschedule a good break between classes.

This class is not an "easy A" because you do have to go class, take notes and study, but if you do what he tells you then you won't have any problems. Loved this class.

The final is a project and the 3 exams are over a few chapters, only 40-50 questions each! He grades right on the spot and makes biology very interesting! Take him!!!

Best teacher I've ever had. Explains and teaches perfectly, and makes the class extremely interesting. It is tough however, and you do have to study a lot for the 3 tests. He only has lab about 5 times over a semester. Great class.

THE BEST professor SFC has in staff! Everyone who said he was a great lecturer, absolutely true. Explains everything thoroughly, and will always answer questions. 99% of material covered in notes, 1% from texts. His class is super easy, provided you actually study. If you dont, you will fail miserably. Study, and you will pass with flying colors.

Took Zoology with him over the summer, was one of the best classes I took at Santa Fe. He makes the content interesting although there was a fair amount to cover over a summer semester. Be prepared for a lot of memorization (make flashcards) but don;t worry if he doesn't cover it he won't ask you about it. Almost no textbook use.

He is an awesome teacher. His class is 3 test, 3 quizzes, labs, and 1 project. He teaches old school style with a chalk board. He's class flies by because he teaches in a interesting way. Must study for test and take good notes.

This was by far the best professor I have had in my entire life. His lectures are on point and make the class as simple as possible. If you have a question he will answer it perfectly. Lots of extra credit throughout the course(literally takes 5 minutes to do). Also does research with turtles and allows students to participate and volunteer.

I took Johnston for General Zoology and loved it. He's laid back, willing to help (but does make you figure some things out on your own), and clear on the lessons. Expect a lot of reading and several daily hours of studying. You can't miss classes or you will struggle. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, so I suggest you take them.

I was in his first Bio2 class and I cannot recommend him enough! The tests are so easy because he gives you a study guide with the exact questions to study, plus his lectures are engaging and really help you understand the material. This class is a work load!!!!!! Do not take if you cannot put a lot of time into studying! It was interesting in learning about animals but this class is intense studying. Prof Johnston is a great guy though! Take him if you dont mind the studying and want to learn more about animals!

Fantastic professor. Extremely knowledgeable about the subject and explains everything extremely well. If you attend class and pay attention you will learn a lot. You are graded on 2 exams and a couple quizzes, but he does give several extra credit opportunities. As long as you put in the effort to study (there is no homework/busy work) you'll pass

His class is composed of 3 exams (no final) 12 quizzes (YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK TO DO WELL ON THESE) He gives study guides before exams & if you do them by test day you will get 5 pts ec. I can't say enough positive things about this man and his Core Bio 2 class. He is amazing, his class is fairly easy, makes up his own exams. They're all straightforward, but not multiple choice so you have to know your stuff. Use the book to read and you'll Ace all his exams. Gives lots of extra credit. Its hard to fail tbh.

Anyone taking any Biology courses should definitely take him! He is very caring and reasonable. He gives great lectures even though he does go off course at times. He's very passionate about what he does and his exams are easy as long as you put in the effort. There are quizzes in the beginning of every chapter though, so you will be reading!

Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are a lot of days that stuff is handed out or turned in and you don't want to miss class. The quizzes and test are straight out of the book and lab manual. Its hard if you don't like reading

Offers extra credit, including take home assignments & bonus questions on quizzes. Lots of reading & quizzes on each chapter, but it's totally worth it. Assessments are free response. He is funny! Prof. Johnston is a very caring, energetic, fun professor. Taking his class CHANGED MY LIFE! My overall bias of animals, especially turtles, is forever changed. He is great at giving feedback promptly, and he makes his lectures interesting - which makes the information easier to articulate and remember. He is one of the best professors at Santa Fe!

Word on the street is true. Prof Johnston is passionate, funny, reasonable. Of course work is required f you, but you get the grade you work for. The class is fun and enlightening 5 stars for Johnston.

Fun class I took it to satisfy my science credit with a lab. I would choose it again if I had too. Classes are long but interesting.

Professor Johnston Tutle guy is an amazing Professor. His lectures are engaging and his quiz/test are based off the Campbell book/Study guides. READ chapter before class! (Quiz will be based on the chapter). Pay attention in Lab, lab practicals are exactly what is presented in lab. Good luck! You wont regret taking him for BSC2011

If you dont attend class, it would be hard to pass. But he is so passionate and makes you want to go to class! There is no textbook. The class was fun! His lectures are engaging. The material awesome. Grading is simple so you always know what you have. Youll regret not taking this class.

He is hands down the best professor to take for any biological sciences. He makes everything interesting and understandable. He has a quiz on the chapters from the text (almost always extra credit) and then hands us a study guide for the exams. The exam questions are from the study guides, word for word. Attendance not mandatory but is recommended.

Professor Johnston was amazing. His lectures are thorough and interesting, he gives extra credit on almost every quiz plus study guides for the three tests you take that are 5 extra credit points. Only three tests and 3 lab practicals, no final. Read the book, show up to class for his lectures, & pay attention in lab and you'll easily get an A or B

Such an amazing teacher. He is very passionate about biology and lectures are very interesting. Reading and attendance is required to pass tests and quizzes. If you pay attention in class you can definitely get an A or B.

Prof. Johnston is hands-down my favorite professor at Santa Fe. He makes every lecture incredibly interesting and engaging, and he really loves what he does. I showed an interest in zoology, and he met with me after class and tried to give me honest advice about what the field is like. I highly HIGHLY recommend taking him: you won't regret it!! :)

Man I started off his class terrible and was still able to finish with a B! Great, humble, and inspirational guy and by far my favorite teacher at Santa Fe College. Very passionate about the environment and will soon have you feeling the same way.

Professor Johnston was by far my favorite teacher at Santa Fe. He loves what he teaches and will help you with whatever you need. He has a quiz on the chapter before he teaches it but he gives a study guide on that chapter the class before to do. I highly recommend taking him.

Professor Johnston was the professor everyone recommended to me, so here I am recommending him for you. Even if you aren't a biology major, his Zoology and Core Bio 2 courses are amazing. He is very friendly and inspirational. I love hearing his stories. He has long lectures, but you do learn from them. Don't miss the class or you'll fall behind.

He's great! he makes the class enjoyable and stress-free. there are only 3 tests and 3 practicals so you need to do well on them to keep your grade up. he gives a good amount of extra credit too so don't worry if you don't do good on a quiz. he loves what he does and he is OBSESSED with turtles so get ready for lots of stories haha

Homework consisted of a little bit of reading and a couple of short videos, so although attendance isn't mandatory, absolutely come to class (you won't be bored!). His enthusiasm for his field is infectious - he made me realize I wanted to major in bio. However, he's impossible to reach outside of class - pretty much doesn't respond to emails.

VERY good professor. He cares about how you can succeed, he will accept late work (there aren't really deadlines, per se), he works with you if you cannot make a quiz, lab, or exam, and he is really cool! Dr. Johnston is a great teacher and very likeable. Study and do your work and you will have a great time in this class. :)

This guy is awesome! I took him for BSC2011 and he made the course so fun and interesting. We have a quiz once a week on the material but its super easy and straight forward. There were also no texts in his class besides 3 lab exams. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Best teacher at Santa Fe. He is really interesting and only teaches you real-life information, not just straight from a textbook. Quizzes every week, but he gives you all the information you will need. Really eager to help you, but not through email! As long as you attend the class you will get an A. Super friendly and loves to talk in class!

Absolutely amazing teacher and an even better person. All you have to do is watch the lecture videos and pay attention to what he says in his live lectures, and you'll pass every quiz. He offers extra credit on nearly every quiz too. Amazing professor who is passionate about what he does. Cannot recommend this class enough.

I am so happy I had the chance to take this class. Hes genuinely one of the best, most interesting, and caring professors Ive had and Ive been going to this college for 3 years now. His grading is very clear cut and his lectures are great too. I wouldnt trade this experience for anything! Highly recommended!

Amazing professor! If you love turtles definitely take him. There is a weekly quiz on the chapter discussed and no exams (apart from the 3 lab ones). If you do the study guide and read the chapter you should get an A on everything. Beware of lab exams and focus on what he says at the beginning of every lab as that is what is coming on the test.

Dont be scared by few assignments graded. Dr.Johnston has managed to make it hard to fail a class. He engages you in every topic. His quizzes are an outline of his study guides, and he even gives extra credit in almost every quiz. This class has become one of my favorite classes. He tells you exactly how you should prepare, study habits i will keep

Just watch the lectures and do the study guide and you'll get 100s+ on every weekly quiz. Lab exams are pretty easy but make sure you write down EVERYTHING he says in beginning of lab. Only two lab exams, & no homework. Very easy class, I rated him a 4 because it's not exactly my fav learning style but it is the easiest science class I took at SF.

Dr. Johnston is the best prof I've ever had. He makes the class so much fun and you can tell he really knows/loves bio. class is set up perfectly, 1 quiz per chapter, 3 lab exams, 2 short papers, 1 fun project & no hw. read the chapter thoroughly and you'll pass the quizzes (he gives great study guides). if you're a bio major Johnston is perfect.

Listen to the lectures and take notes before class. Hearing the lecture twice and a couple more looks over the material and you are guaranteed to succeed in this class.

This professor is a 10/10. He makes you love everything about Bio. I do have to say this class is pretty heavy and you have to watch a ton of videos. However, he offers EC for every quiz (1 quiz every week). He was a coach before so he is very understanding and encouraging. The lab exams are the toughest part but if you pay attention you're good.

Professor Johnston is one of the most passionate and caring professors around. For one of the labs we actually got to capture turtles at a pond on campus in order to record info about the health of the local population. Made some great friends and it was just generally a great experience. (Also pretty easy A)

Professor Johnston was a great professor and I highly recommend him to anyone. He is passionate about what he teaches, and he makes lectures fun. Instead of doing exams, he does 1 quiz a week, and he provides a study guide for the quiz. There is no final exam. He is also incredibly kind as well and has fun with the class.

Best proffesor ever. If you have the opportunity to take Johnston do so! He is the best Proffesor and it is very attainable to get a good grade in the class. He deeply cares and knows a lot on Biology. 4 writing assignments, 10 quizzes and 3 lab exams. Learned so much in his course

By far one of the best professors I've had. He is knowledgeable, kind, and could clearly talk about animals for hours over the class time. He not only cares for learning about animals, but also has a burning passion for protecting them. 10/10

Professor Johnston is easily one of the best professors I've ever had, as not only is it easy to achieve a good grade in his class with all of the extra credit opportunities but he also goes out of the way to make sure the course appeals to every student in some way with the freedom in his writing assignments. Btw I think he likes turtles :)

The class is set up with lecture on Monday and quiz on Wednesday. No exams except 2 or 3 lab exams. Super easy and informational class. He is super passionate and easy going, I learned a lot even outside of the course material. Labs were also easy and not graded. Would recommend to anyone.

One of my favorite professors i've had, I have learned so much more than in any other bio class. Weekly quizzes that are easy if you do the study guides, but no exams except for lab exams. There is a photo safari project that boosts your grade a lot at the end. He will work with your schedule if need be and is a very passionate and easy going guy.

Friend recommended for me to take Johnston...best decision ever. Professor is very specific about his assignments and does not add any extra. The lab exams are difficult so study a lot. There are weekly quizzes, but he supplies a study guide for each one so if you'd read the textbook and watch his videos they are an easy A.

Overall , amazing professor. He really cares about teaching and inspires students to think like scientists. He has a semi open concept for lab where he allows students to look deeper into things if they chose to do so. Only negative, if you have a 89.5% the answer is no, he will not round it to a 90%

Professor Johnston is a passionate instructor who makes learning biology engaging. The weekly quizzes are manageable with the provided study guides. For extra prep, unstuck AI and the free textbook are helpful. Overall, an informative and reasonably straightforward class.

You'll have weekly quizzes, but they are super easy to prepare for if you pay attention in class or to the online lecture videos. He really emphasizes learning the material rather than memorizing it, so focus is less on examinations and more on practical understanding.

Dr. Johnston (the turtle guy) was absolutely amazing!! There are weekly quizzes which you have to study for but no lecture exams. We had 2 lab exams and and a photo safari assignment. Overall, he is very caring and wants you to succeed!! Take him if you can!!

Dr. Johnston is a caring professor who wants you to succeed. His expectations are clear and to the point. His study guides and class lectures prepare you for the quizzes. He does have a mix of multiple choice, true/false, and short answer for his quizzes. Make sure to show up for lab to know what is on the lab exams. Overall, wonderful professor!

Professor Johnston was a great biology professor. I learned and remembered a lot of things from his class. He lectures and study guides are very important; if you just study them for like 30 minutes before class, you will do good on the quiz, and his photo safari is really easy and a great grade booster. And there's no final exam for his class

He really wants you to succeed and be present in what he teaches. His assignments may seem odd but the outcome is so worth it. He is like a genuine person and that so hard to get as a student. His grades are mostly from your quizzes. If you do his study packet and attend his lectures you get an easy A. Great class, Great prof! Much to learn!

Easily one of the best professors I've had the pleasure of having a class with. Weekly quizzes on the lecture material (plus some outside readings/videos) will be the large majority of the work you do, which really isn't bad at all. Lab isn't bad at all. Super-duper nice guy, very easy to get along with and very passionate. He makes you care.
