definitely the better chem mat I lecturer, very approachable
No Comments
Very good Lecturer. Concise Clear
good professor, but the course was retardedb
No Comments
Too many anecdotes and info he mixes up and then doesn't bother to clarify. I can forgive lecture mistakes as long as u make sure the class knows what the real info is but this is a weakness of his.
He's very nice and makes lectures interesting but his tests can be exceptionally cruel and unusual. For such a difficult course, he does a great job.
Excellent lecturer. Very approachable after class, always open to questions. He cares about his students and enjoys teaching.
Very, very hard course. Way too much material for one semester. Good teacher though.
Boring, inane, and totally unhelpful. Had him for chem Mat 1. He would bring his kids to class, not know what he was teaching about, and not care about the students. Worse chem class I've ever had.
Loser! Worst Teacher Ever.
I had him for Chem mat 1 and thought he was very good. Better than the other Chem mat 1 lecturer.
HORRIBLE, thats all I have to say
Difficult course... far too much information for an introductory chem class for mostly non-chem majors. However, he is a decent guy who teaches the material pretty well. Very available and fair.
Easiest class I've ever taken. Even though their is alot of material covered in every exam, they were all doable and straightforward. Easy A.
I'd rather read the book than go to lecture.
Chem mat I is not a hard course at all because it's mostly chemistry from high school plus some new stuff from chemistry AP. Prof Korenowski is a great lecturer, much better than other chem mat I professor. And the exams and fianl are not hard at all.
This class covers way too much info. for an intro. chem. class for people who are not chem. majors. Be careful on exams. The first one is cake, but don't get comfortable. The second exam will kill you. READ THE BOOK. He doesn't necessarily teach everything on the exam to both sections.
ALOT OF MATERIAL ON EXAMS! Great person. The curriculum should be shortened...too much info...not his fault. He teaches well. Go to his office hours and you will do fine!
After a year I still want to go into his office and break things. Worst professor EVER.
Great person knows his stuff BUT goes way too quick and needs to elaborate. It feels that he thinks everyone already knows what hes talking about.
Too much info for an inroductory chem course, and it seems like he thinks that everyone in the class already has a Ph.D. in chem
sux balls, horrible teacher. cracks horrible jokes
This guy is way too fast! The Course is too advanced to be called a intro course. Very tuff if your highschool chem class was as bad as mine. The guy thinks the student know as much as him.
Nice guy with some good humor, but teaching is too fast and over my head, even though I had High School Chem Honors. Too big of a curriculum with tests being pretty difficult to most. Many of the kids were lost, even though some kids did really well. Very high and low grades on tests.
I hate him. Way too fast. Too much information. Tests are impossible. My test average is 42% after getting A's in high school. Do the lab reports and homework (if you can figure it out) and you should still be able to pass. I hope I can.
Indeed this class has alot of material, but Dr. K. is the man. He is trying his hardest to teach and that's what counts. He did not create the course so he should not be blamed for all the hard work. Overall, he is a clear lecturer and great man!
For those of you below who are taking the time to write a review, maybe you should be using that time wisely and studying for whatever is to come. The material is not that difficult, though there is a lot, so take off the diapers and go study, just have to review the material and pound it in.

Very nice guy but moves through material extremely fast and assumes that students know much more than they do. If you didn't take AP Chem 3 times in high school you could be screwed. Tests range from managable to impossible without warning. Only savior is final.
he sucks
Class was hard and unclear. Simple material presented in such an unclear fashion that it was awful. Too much material for too little time. Good guy though, just totally slaughtered every kid with the test material and awful grades at the end of the year.
Easy class IF you study. An 85 is the lowest A. Very easy to get that if you put your mind to it. As for Korenowski, very helpful whenever I needed it. Overall a great guy. Good sense of humor too!
He's a great guy and all, and he's funny, and he obviously knows his stuff... but his way of getting it across is a little muddier than it has to be. I learned more in chem principles by just having a friend reteach it to me. As for the class, it's not hard as long as you put a TINY bit of effort in

He spent fifteen minutes of lecture talking about random nonsense, and the rest of lecture was not clear at all.
Lectures were informative and enjoyable. Knew his stuff and even blew stuff up in front of everybody once in a while. I especially enjoyed his anti-DeBeers rants midway through the semester.
Awful lecturer, very disorganized. He would confuse himself when explaining anything; he was often late or he wasted lecture time talking about his kids or PRS receivers. His exams contained lots of errors, his grading on partial credit was draconian, and he generally sucks. SUCKS.
Useless teacher. Class is easy so its not a big deal. Online assignments are junk. Back tests are all that are needed.
I didn't have a good chem background so I found this class tough. He has good intentions but his exams are brutal. The final was easy though, so I managed a B.
This class is really easy. It's basically a review of high school chemistry. Korenowski's lectures are pretty straight forward, and he talks alot about the online quizzing thing, so that takes up a lot of time.
Said I couldn't do logarithms in front of the whole class. Not me specifically, but after we submitted an answer with our faulty RF transmitters, we heard that "59 people in class had better learn how to do logs." Heck, I can calculate logs of NEGATIVE numbers! (They're complex.) Questions we answer in class are often quite ambiguous.
The exams are difficult, but the lectures are animated and amusing.
He's very hard to follow and wastes a lot of time during classes
Talks way too fast, and doesn't explain equations to understand them. Always late for class and never explained a test that 1/2 of the entire class failed - and the average was a 58%. Overall, a horribe teacher, but since he's the only one, theres nothing to do!
THIS CLASS SUCKS THA BIG ONE!
Makes time available to help out students
I found him to be really clear. His lectures are well laid out, so that he goes in a logical order.
I hated him, until we switched professors and i realized id taken him forgranted.... he is a pretty good lecturer, even though chem 1300-1100 sucks.... his tests are pretty fair, MEMORIZE THE CLICKER QUESTIONS!!!! easy points!
At first I did not like this professor... that was until Gillies took over, then I missed him! Not too bad at teaching and his tests were reasonable. He really wanted students to do well.
He isn't that bad as long as you pay attention. His tests are difficult, but study clicker questions and you'll be fine. Trust me you may hate him at first, then Gillies takes over and you miss him.
clear and helpful on an individual basis but goes quickly through difficult material in class. clicker questions rule all, learn those and youll pass.
Final questions are taken directly from previous tests, and most multiple choice questions on tests are taken from clicker questions, so start memorizing. A breeze compared to Gillies.
good teacher, maybe not the best but didn't do a bad job, if you take notes and pay attention you'll do well
The class has a lot of work, but it is fair and gives you an Indication of what it will be like in RPI
Very unclear teacher! Doesn't stay on topic, wastes lecture time then gives tests with material we haven't seen.
Dr. Korenowski may seem a little disorganized at first, but if you concentrate hard on what he says, he will teach you everything very well. Tests are only hard if you do not do the homework. If you have trouble with online homework, he will spend as much time as it takes to help you. Approach this guy when you need help: he is kind and easy going.
i honestly don't pay attention to him

He is very unclear and not much can be taken out of lecture, no matter how much you pay attention. He is too brilliant a man to be teaching such an elementary course.
He seems to be a nice person to get along with, and in the beginning the class seemed interesting, but he just cannot possibly figure out how to keep everybody's attention, and the Lab TAs are forced to pick up the slack. Everybody in the back half of the lecture hall completely zones out. Keep an ear out for his tangents -- they're pretty funny.
Overall decent professor. Though it was sometimes easy to zone out during his lectures, he nonetheless kept it light-hearted and often cracked some jokes (some less funny than others). If you listened to his lectures and did all the work, you got the A like I did. Nice guy outside of class too; he is the professor that colleges need more of.
He will teach you what you need to know, but it's up to you to understand it. Do the homework to reinforce and reteach concepts to yourself.
Great teacher but you must read the text book. If you listen he teaches everything you will see on the test. Classes are huge so sit in the front if you can't stay awake. Funny stories
Great Prof! Easy to listen to, and informative
He seems like a smart guy but he doesn't know how to teach. I come to class just to get credit for attendance but I do other work in class and read class notes from other teachers online later.
Easy to understand, goes off on tangents quite a bit. Easy to forget everything you learned. Works through almost every problem he shows, sometimes while you are supposed to answer it with the clicker
He goes off on way too many tangents! You can't tell what to filter out because everything seems unimportant. I suggest reading the textbook over listening to him. Barely anyone in class listened to him. People were either playing games on their laptop, doing hw for other classes, or sleeping. The only reason to come to class was for iclicker.
Easy A if you study. And thank god he goes off on tangents, chem isn't that interesting.
I had him for Eq Chem and quantitative analysis, not the clearest professor I've had, but he is wicked nice
Good Professor, Very helpful if you need it
He goes off on tangents and i just couldn't follow what he said. I felt like he made things more complicated than they are and taught things we didnt need to know. after a few lectures i stopped even trying to pay attention, i just read the book and did the homework on my own and was able to learn the material that way.
He does not present the material in an organized fashion. He starts off with examples but never explains thee concepts behind them. He goes off on tangents most of the time. Honestly, I gave up on learning anything after the first couple of lectures. I looked at Alvaro's notes and everything became crystal clear.
At least half of every class is him ranting about some completely unrelated tangent.
It is absolutely impossible to learn from him. He just rambles on and doesn't actually explain anything he just adds more information that ends up confusing you even more...
He's lively, funny, and down to earth. However, his ability to convey not-so basic Chemistry over a period of 80 minutes leaves a little to be desired. It's not hard to follow with him, but in the end you realize what you've learned isn't so clear, and it's hard to get a big picture.
He is a very positive and friendly professor, and is always looking for ways to help his students. Chem requires out of class studying, but all the test questions are available through class or outside work. He likes to include stories in his lectures, and think about how anything in life relates to chem. Overall great Professor, always friendly!
If you enjoy sifting through what appear to be the scribblings of a homeless schizophrenic the night before a test, this is the guy for you!
Goes off on too many random tangents, and is very hard to glean any useful information from lecture. His tests are difficult but manageable.
Hard to figure out the important parts of his lecture. A very boring lecturer and goes on tangents. Not a great teacher for students who need clear-cut facts for retention. Exams are only 25 multiple choice questions.
I had Prof. Korenoski for Chem 1 and Physical Chemistry. He was MUCH better in Pchem than he was for Chem 1. I didn't think he went off on as many tangents as other reviewers. Pchem is a whole nother story; it's his field. He did a good job at explaining things, was very clear about exam problems, and made a hard subject more relatable.
I really enjoyed Dr. Korenowski's class. He's very smart and is always willing to help during office hours. He tells you exactly what to study for the exam, so as long as you're prepared you'll do well. I would definitely take another class of his.
His lectures were interesting, but totally optional. He loves Physical Chemistry and is passionate about it during his lectures. The tests were open-book, cheating was easy, and the questions were from book problems. Make sure to get the text book solution manual. Overall, easy class.
Super nice, gives lots of extra credit. Tests are open book, and you can regrade them for up to half credit back. Get the solution manual for the book.
Dr. Korenowski tries his hardest to make sure everyone understands the material and gets the best grade they can possibly get. He's extremely helpful if you go to his office hours, and takes your feedback very seriously. Great guy and great teacher.
He is overall a pretty good professor, but he always goes off topic with his lecture and falls behind with other classes taught by a different professor. This is a problem when you are in a lab section with students who have already learned the material you haven't.
All around good professor. Is passionate in subject and really wants students to understand the concepts.
Very generous with homework points. Often cancels class due to weather. Lectures are recorded, class attendance is not mandatory. TA can be hard to find. Tests similar to homework and back exams.
Completely reads off the slides and teaches a lot of unnecessary information but he's a great dude if you actually ask him stuff and he brought candy for Halloween so. It's what you make of it.
He is a really good person, and has a good sense of humor. He definitely knows his stuff, but for me, personally, he went very fast in lecture and it didn't benefit me going to lecture as much as it did just reading the textbook.
Korenowski is funny and nice but his lectures aren't great. I just show up to class for the participation credit and teach the stuff to myself by reading the powerpoints later or watching Dr. Ma's lecture.
Lectures consist entirely of him reading off the slides, which would be fine if he wasn't blatantly using other professors' slides. It's apparent within lecture that he is viewing the slides for the first time. His genial attitude does not make up for what he lacks as a professor.
Great professor, only complaint was the structure of labs. If you show up to most lectures and answer the online questions you will get a good grade. Loved all of his stories
He seems like a really great guy. I think he would be an awesome parent to have (I know that's weird, but that's beside the point...) ANYWAYS, we are always the most behind in lectures and he gets a bit off-topic, which makes homework (which has the same deadline in all classes), much harder to complete as well as lab quizzes.
I would not recommend anyone take professor Korenowski for Chem 1. He absolutely cannot teach and does not explain anything. He just goes through concepts and says oh yeah this is easy, flies through an example and moves on. He never covers the material in depth enough for the exams. Take Dr. Ma if you can, but he's not great either
Having Korenowski as a lecturer makes a tough class harder, he's often behind the other professors and the tests themselves are very difficult.
The professor brags about his students needing to spend 60 hours a week just on his class. The class average has most people at a D or lower just from the first exam. He just reads of the slides and does barely a few problems during lectures. You're better off reading the textbook. Dr. Ma and Tysoe are way better are at teaching the course.
As other students have already mentioned, he just parrots the information on the slides. He is also behind schedule on the content in his lectures making homework as well as review for exams that much harder as you must teach yourself what he is supposed to teach.
The professor is frequently behind the other two chemistry professors, meaning that the already decently difficult tests are made even harder by having less time to review material. Homework load is also very high compared to most other first year classes, and much of it is busy work. It is easiest to simply read through slides during lecture.
Korenowski doesn't progress through slides as fast as they were already designed to. This might matter if your lab is right after his lecture, meaning info you need for the post-lab hasn't been covered yet. Other than that, I enjoyed his small tangents. Just in general though, this class WILL be a lot of work no matter which lecturer you get.
Choose Dr. Ma for Chemistry 1100 if possible. Dr. Korenowski is not a bad lecturer, but Dr. Ma makes the exams for every Chem 1100 section, so you are better off being in his class. Dr. K hosts very helpful review sessions for exams and often gives away questions. The class is very difficult, but he does try to make it easier for his students.
Take Ma if you can, Karnowski is okay, I like his personality but sometimes he can be behind in the material.
Dr. Korenowski is a very smart person, but he is also a professor that is uninvolved with teaching. He reads off the slides that someone else gives him, and it's obvious that he is seeing the slides for the first time in class. Additionally, he will sometimes not show up to his office hours. However, Chem 1100 offers a lot of other great resources.
Was consistently behind the other professors by at least a week.
He tends to go on random tangents leaving us behind on the material. There were a couple times I had to teach myself material to get through the homework because we hadn't reached it in class. He's very willing to help students.
pretty average RPI teacher. wasnt too great but definitely wasnt bad, definitely better than other alternatives (Tysoe)
The class is challenging, but Professor Korenowski tries to make it more manageable. While he can get sidetracked, his review sessions are very helpful. unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
He was usually behind in lectures, but he always caught up by the time an exam came around. If you stay after class of go to his office hours he is genuine and tries his best to explain everything (he also gives out answers to HW and exam questions all the time)
Tests too hard and flows through lectures too fast and they're a little hard to understand.
