Interesting lectures. Somewhat amusing guy. Overall, a pretty chill guy.
The class is exactly hard enough for you to become a great writer and not any harder (the way things should be). He cuts out the crap busywork and unnecessary lecturing. Most likely the fairest teacher I've ever had.
Class was decent. Fair grader, tho lectures were a bit pointless. Gave some good general writing information and very knowledgable, but didn't cover much about asg's in class. Managed to skip class a lot and do the asgs how I thought they should be done and get an A on all of them, plus A in the class. A challenging class nontheless tho.
This class has no point. It's like junior high, with presentations and poster projects and boring, pointless lectures. People only seem to take it because it's a requirement for CE/EE. Also, the professor has no clue about anything technical, which is funny, since this is a COMPUTER ENGINEERING class.
A little light on the "technical" part, but a very good writing class. The assignments were pretty interesting since you can pick your own topics, and lectures contained some useful writing advice. Moulds is a good speaker as well.
Very easy class, just consisted of 4 essays and selected readings. Didn't even have to do the readings after the first few weeks. Likes to talk a lot for a "seminar" class; he'll play devil's advocate if you argue something. Easy A if you talk in class and spend a few hours on the essays.
I went to class a total of three times and still got an A in the class. Just study the reading before tests and it's easy
Cool teacher fro core class at crown. Unlike all other core teachers, he is not a writting instructor he teaches some tech classes as well. Class only had to write four essays and were on the easy side. Open to any topic of dissusion. Didn't make us do a project that most all other cores had to do. TAKE HIM for core!
Class is easy, prof is very enthusiastic about what he's talking about, knowledgable, and brings up interesting points, which is hard to do because the material is extremely boring. Just study before tests.
Good professor for the subject, on the nerdy side but its to be expected with this subject. Take the class for easy GE but dont expect to learn anything you wont already know.
Gerald is very nice, funny and interesting. I really liked going to his class. He is down to Earth and understanding.
Really straight forward professor. Easy A as long as you read the material before class and complete short write-ups due at the end of class every day. Grades easily on essays and most of the time debates during class.
FUNNY GUY! In the nerdy way. Makes jokes all the time, the class is super easy, total easy A. go to class because every week you have a quiz with an attendence question work like a third of it. The quizes are online, question 19 is always mouse. The HW is SO easy if you've ever touched a computer before. You really need no knowledge in the field.
TOTALLY EASY CLASS! Def good for GE. It's completely unnecessary to go to class other than midterm and final days and you can still get an A. It's fun to go to class though because Moulds is super funny and tells you very interesting facts about the Internet. I was put off by the title of the class orginally, but it turned out being great!
I loved this class! There were weekly quizes and three scantron tests (no final). Graded on the best 4 out of 5 homework assignments. Yes the class was easy, but I enjoyed it because I actually learned about computers. Some of it was review, but most of it was new. If you have never taken a computer class before, I highly reccomend this class.
Class with Gerald was dead easy. I had no problems getting an A. He's funny (if you get it) and pretty interesting to talk to. I didn't skip class just because sitting through it wasn't a bother.
Moulds is one of the easier teachers I've taken. Be sure to speak in his class, and spend a bit of time on the essays. If you happen to screw an essay up, just resubmit it for a better grade. While some people think he talks an aweful lot, pay attention to him, he knows what he's talking about.
Great guy! overall lectures were pretty interesting...he was a good lecturer. i felt bad though because a lot of people were disrespectful and a lot blatantly cheated on tests.
Easy A and you can learn a lot if you don't know much about computers. You don't need the textbook if you go to lecture. Great guy and he truly wants people to well in the class. and only about 15% of the class actually goes to lecture and everything is submitted online.
He deserves a lot more respect than he gives. He knows what he's talking about and makes what is usually a boring/easy subject pretty interesting and useful. Three non-accumulative midterms, no final. Take this if you need an IN GE.
He is very upbeat and enjoys what he is teaching. Class is based on online quizzes with all answers in the book. Assignments are online too and he drops the lowest score. Very straightforward and easy with not a lot of IN-CLASS time required!
Moulds is a very interesting and thought provoking teacher. He enjoys his work and thus his discussion classes are very enjoyable. The work load is manageable and he offers many chances to raise your grade. He is one of my favorite professors, partly because you can relate to him. In his class you only write 5 papers and give a small presentation.
Class is pretty easy. Almost all of the work is done online. Only midterms are taken in class. There are no finals for his class. Online quizzes are easy as well. It's straight out of the book. If you know little about computers, this would be a good class. Overall, this class is super easy.
Very good class on all levels. Teacher is amazing and gives very interested lectures. For someone like me who did not know how to use excel/program/html before the class, I now have a little background. Yes, this class is a total easy A. I got 100% on all three midterms (95% questions on midterms are gimmes). There is around 15% EC in the class too
Easy, interesting, useful, funny/not mandatory lectures, BUENO. happy face. take this class. Oh and once he asked me if I had a scantron when I came in late for a test and I think he intended to give me one if I said no. Very cool guy despite looking kinda weird.
He looks kind of wierd, and sometimes he tries to be funny but he really isn't. Although this class was an easier A then P.E. in high school. Thank You Gerold!! Has 5 easy assignments, and he drops the easiest one (so just skip the hardest one). Tons of extra Credit!! Midterms are 100% common sense. I never studied or went to lectures & I got an A!
Gerald is a great teacher. I think he is funny. He is aproachable i enjoy going to his class. For some students his class was easy for me it was too but i learned alot i didnt know. I recommend you take his comp class if you want to learn about software & hardware. If you already know about comp. why waste your time learning something u already kno
Great guy. Interesting and skilled lecturer. This class may be easy, but I was one of those who went to every lecture because he is very interesting. Easy A, yes. I would recommend him to anyone, even if they know about computers. This class touches on a lot of topics and it has enlightened me. Best teacher so far at UCSC for me.
Good teacher, clear lectures. A little too much reliance on student presentations.
Very Great Teacher. Helpful and gives a lot of extra credit :D its hard not to get an "A"
He is a very nice, cool but slightly dorky guy. You can tell he loves computers and writing. You have 10 quizzes that are due once a week along with 5 assignments that are very spread out. 3 midterms and no final. Overall, very easy class(easy A) and he tries to make things as exciting as possible. He talks really fast though!
Moulds is such a nice professor take his class for sure, he's very clear about what will be on his quizzes and tests and he is always willing to help anyone that is having trouble with the assignments.
Great class. Took it to satisfy a GE. Super easy, I rarely went to lecture, but I did spend a good deal of time on the assignments and studied for the tests. Moulds is great. Really laid back, understanding, really helpful. Highly recommend for an easy A.
I also had him for my Crown Core section, he was interesting, I rarely got bored. His Personal Computers class was incredibly easy... it's completely unnecessary to attend lecture, and nobody ever does, he gives online quizzes every week and the in class midterms/final are just all the questions he uses from those quizzes...
Gerald Moulds is such a fun professor! Has an awesome sense of humor and really knows how to give an interesting lecture about something I don't find too much interest in. Awesome guy!
Easy teacher, interesting lectures. take it for a GE
Super easy! Don't get the book. You can find all the answers to the quizzes online (although there is one attendance questions). I never went to class and I did well in the class. Easy GE. Moulds is a really nice guy and he LOVES computers.
Gerald is god. He is extremely helpful and wants you to pass. He loves computers and helps you anyway he can. My comp broke down and he showed me step by step to fix it, saving me some money. His lectures are clear, interesting, and he is really in to it. you don't even need the book since he covers everything in depth and posts everything online
Easiest class in history. Lectures are completely silly. basically know someone in the class so they can tell you the participation question, OR stay for the first 5 mins. Nice, funny guy tho
GREATEST TEACHER IN UCSC, Take this class before he leaves this place. I wish all my classes were like his. Class is easy, but if you are struggling he does his best to help you. Ive seen him help kids set up their new lap tops so besides class in heart he is a good man for spending his time on his students
Clear, fun, and sometimes very interesting lectures and an easy class to boot. Some of the material is too simple and it can be boring, but it is a basic computer class so that is expected. Lectures aren't mandatory and most students don't attend, but I'm glad that I've attended them. Mr. Moulds is excellent overall.
He is awesome!! I love going to his class. He tells good stories that relate to the topic.
He's awesome! Really funny and the lectures are interesting. It's a simple class, but worth taking because he really is a cool guy. He is more than willing to help students with anything he can and explains everything well
He's very funny and helpful. This class was the easiest I've taken. I hardly ever went to class and I got an A. Do the quizzes (whose answers can be found online) and study the quizzes for the tests. The assignments are easy, simple busy computer work.
The guy looks like Snape but doesn't act like him. He is extremely helpful and willing to talk to his students. He even gave us rice krispy treats :)
really easy, but a really nice guy and extremely helpful and interesting
this guy is awesome. i didnt have to buy the book and went to lecture for funsies. every time i talked to the guy he was understanding and accommodating (i had to reschedule a midterm) and he knows whats hes talking about.
easy class!!! just study the MCs online (which are also practice tests) and you'll get an easy A without a doubt. it's stupid if you don't because he'll give you extra credit
Love this class. He busted out the MAME & played old school arcade. That is awesomeness to the nth degree. The answer to #19 is always peacock.
He is very good teacher and his class is fun. He never waste any time and he is very helpful in office hour. I like him very much.
Moulds is a really good professor he is very passionate about computers which makes class interesting. The class is good for common knowledge throughout life as well as a gen. ed. I really enjoyed this class, he is a cool guy. Tests are very reasonable, you need to textbook to take the weekly quizzes. A good class, I recommend it to all majors!
I enjoyed this class. Lectures are kinda long winded at times but he tells funny stories. Gives lots of extra credit options, including on the exams. If you can't get a seat during the 1st week - don't worry. Halfway through, only 25% of the class shows up.
Oh man, Gerald is definitely something. It's unfortunate that since the class is so easy, people just take notes off the powerpoints he posts so they never come to class, so they kind of miss out on this guy. He is something sort of a modest genius and quite a memorable person and he could offer so much more than just teaching a class. Recommended.
Super easy class. Highly recommend, you learn interesting facts. He goes off topic, but the midterms and finals are super easy. You can get a good grade my skimming the book.
Personal computers was an easy A. DONT BUY THE BOOK, you wont need it and its expensive. Most of the answers you can find by googling the questions. Class is somewhat mandatory - some of the answers to his quizzes are references made only in class. He's a kool guy even if lectures can be a bit dry at times. if you need an easy A, this is the class.
He is really enthusiastic about the class and that makes me enjoy it. It is pretty easy because most college students know the stuff he talks about however it goes a little deeper and I like that. This is the only class I actually want to go to. If you need another class TAKE THIS CLASS.
very enthusiastic teacher! drops lowest score out of 5 assignments. study the quizzes/practice exams to get A on exams
Enthusiastic about subject and really tries to make the lectures as interesting as possible. Section is not mandatory, but is helpful if you are struggling with an assignment. You don't need to buy the textbook to do well.
Besides subject being fairly easy if you're somewhat knowledgeable about computers, his lectures are enjoyable! He really knows a lot of about computers and their history. He makes the class a good time!
This is an upper division writing class, so long papers are expected. He wants you to focus on the clarity of your point, not your grammar. He really wants you to pass. Rewrite your papers for a better grade. Ask him any question and he'll be helpful. Class was a little boring, but he is a really nice guy. My writing improved too.
It's a pretty easy college class. That doesn't mean you don't have to do anything, you still need to do your projects and quizzes. Study the online cmpe3 flash cards before midterms and you wild do fine.
best class I have ever taken at UCSC. Yes it is an easy class but it is really fun and enjoyable. Try actually going to the lectures they are a lot of fun.
I'm in love with his class. Lectures were fun and the 3 exams were super easy if you actually studied for them.
I love this class, I cant get enough. I even read the book becuase the stuff is so interesting(note that to pass the class you really dont need to read the book). He is an awesome professor.
Gerald Moulds is very knowledgeable and this class is very fun. He is really charismatic and I had to fight the urge to go up to him and hug him on the last day of lecture. He is adorable.
moulds has a great interest in the subject which makes lecture NOT boring. it is not really necessary to attend to class. Class is composed on 10 weekly quizzes (piece of cake. but make sure not to miss any because there are no retakes), 3 noncom. exams, and 5 assignments (which he chooses best 4). Also, gives a lot of extra credit!!!!
The class is pretty straight forward, if you don't do the assignments you won't pass. Weekly ecommon quizzes that are copied into the midterms and final.
He is constantly asking students if they understand, calling them out if they don't and being very understanding and not naïve about their situation. Does whatever he can to help a student pass and always reminds students of office hours. He also goes out of his way to calculate how students are doing in the class, which helps.
I found lecture to be enjoyable enough that even though I already knew most of the material, I attended class anyway.
The class subject is very basic you can still learn many new things. He is very clear in lectures and the assignments are straight forward. However, it does not mean the class is an easy A, you still have to pay attention and need to study but again its not that hard because the subject is basic.
This class is the definition of a piece of cake. All the weekly quiz answers are online, the exams are the exact same questions as the quizzes (most of the time), and most of the assignments are fair (there is one or 2 hard ones though). The class is easy but REMEMBER you DO need to still study. Never went to class and still managed to get an A.
Tons of writing. Very time consuming. Moulds himself is awesome though just not the class itself.
Do the assignments study terms for the tests and the online quizzes which all the answers are online and get an easy A
Many students do not attend class but I did because Moulds made it interesting. Moulds shows enthusiasm almost every lecture. He throws jokes here in there and lets us know some tricks. Exams are easy but do require some studying. Assignments are easy except for one
I like him as a teacher, but I wish the class was more challenging. As of now, it is WAY too easy. You learn a lot in lectures, but the assignments are a joke. Assignments 1, 2, 3, and 5 take a little under a total of 3 hours to do (you can skip an assignment). Quizzes are also a joke since they aren't timed and you can Google answers if needed.
Gerald is a really nice teacher and this class is about as close to a guaranteed A as it can get. Tests are multiple choice and easy. All the assignments are easy except #4, but you get to drop one anyways. As long as you do your work and study a little for the tests you will be fine
Overall good teacher. People say it's an easy A and it is, but you still have to do a fair amount. The exams consist of the review AND the past quizzes ( this messed me up on the first one). Lectures are really boring imo, but he does a pretty good job.
He knows this class is an easy A, and it really is. Big extra credit opportunities, pretty simple/common sense projects and lectures, easy quizzes (one attendance question, answer given in class), and a really nice and enthusiastic professor. Sections are optional, didn't do supplemental reading. Good start to learning more about Microsoft Office.
Moulds is a great guy. He makes his class really enjoyable, and really seems to care about his students. He has office hours and encourages you to go to assure everything on your assignment is done. Overall hes a really great professor, and I 100% recommend taking his class not because its easy, but because of how great he is
His lectures are interesting and he is overall a great guy. Tests were easy and you can find quiz answers on quizlet.
Loved this class and learned a lot. Tests are based off of quizzes!
Prof Moulds is a really cool guy, he's very understanding if you have something personal going on. If you miss something on a quiz or an assignment because of a mistake you made, he's willing to help you out as long as it doesn't happen constantly. He's very passionate about teaching even if not a lot of kids show up for lecture. 10/10 a real gem
Moulds is a very lovable guy teaching a very easy class. The 3 (non-cumulative) exams were very easy to study for- going over the weekly quizzes on Canvas and lecture notes was more than enough for me. The assignments (your best 4 out of 5 are graded) were fun and simple. Would recommend to anyone.
Amazing professor and class. Super easy & really engaging. I would highly recommend taking this class if you are interested in computers and/or would want a GPA/unit boost.
This class is an easy A. Would recommend to anyone looking to balance their workload or just want the units.
Genuinely good lecturer (for the few lectures I attended). For CS majors, this class is an easy A. If you're genuinely unfamiliar with computers, this class is a great intro to how they work, and can be a solid intro to VERY basic coding for those with absolutely no experience with it. Best 4 of 5 assignments used for grades, and 3 exams are easy.
185 is pretty easy class no midterm or finals, just alot of writing. Also, you should be pretty comfortable with public speaking before taking this class. Its a class I would take late in your 3rd year or into your 4th as the class is geared towards preparing you for post graduation either getting a job or applying to grad school.
REMOTE - You can attend Zoom meetings or watch the recorded versions later. 3 multiple choice exams (open-notes, open-web). Weekly quizzes. 5 graded assignments relatively easy. He drops your lowest assignment score. Very funny and interesting guy. He really knows a lot. I enjoyed just listening to him talk. Class was easy even for a psych major.
Super easy class! Great Professor as well, if you're having issues email him, and he'll be really understandable. Only 5 assignments and 1 gets dropped, so if you get 100% on 4, you don't have to do the last one. Weekly quizzes (easy) and 2 midterms with a final (also easy) RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR/CLASS!!!
Gerald was an amazing teacher and had a lot of emotion towards the students and would make a lot of jokes in the lecture to keep it alive and interesting while listening to him. If you had a reasonable issue come up and needed to have an extension, he would be very helpful and give you a small extension. Overall, an amazing teacher and person.
Class was an easy A. However it is a good amount of work and sections/lectures were required with only a few skips allowed. Some assignments are good preparation for careers/later studies, but I found that I was not learning much from lecture. Be prepared for presentations and a lot of writing, but don't stress too much about this class.
Gerald Moulds is the best professor. Made the class straightforward and flexible. 5 assignments (1 is dropped). 10 quizzes and 3 exams (open notes). Can watch his lectures at any time we want, engaging and hilarious. Definitely looking forward to taking his CSE 185S class in the future.
Great lecture, keeps it interesting, projects are fun and not that hard
Follow the instruction finish the assignments on time and then you will pass with A. Quizzes and exams are all open book.
Had Gerald for my first quarter here in 2020 just to take a GE and let me tell you CSE 3 is probably the easiest class I have ever taken here (online) Not sure how it is in person but it was really easy online , just learning about basic computer components and some tech history.
Moulds is a wonderful teacher who really gets you prepared for the real world. His lectures were amazing and really made me enjoy the class. There is a decent amount of HW but it is well paced and not too overwhelming.
Take this course to boost your GPA. Easy A.
Professor Moulds is THE best lecturer I have ever had in all 4 years at UCSC. His homework consists of various papers and presentations on topics YOU are interested in. He has almost no restriction on what you choose to write or present on so long as it is appropriate and has enough content. 100/10 best professor I've ever had.
I honestly couldn't recommend this professor more. He's a rare breed of professor who you can immediately tell is passionate about teaching and connecting with his students. His lectures are interesting, he's extremely compassionate, and he is very lenient about late work especially if you're struggling to keep up. Overall an amazing professor!
Great lecturer and a fairly easy class. He does take attendance through in-class attendance quizzes. Miss class five times, and they will lower your grade by a letter.
Amazing class. His lectures were very passionate and kept me going to them. Prof. Moulds is energetic and captivating. Pay attention to lectures and you will do great.
It's very clear he possesses a deep passion for his subject, like a literal grown up version of those nerdy comp-sci kids we all know. I personally thought that made his lectures more interesting to listen to, even if I wasn't the biggest tech fan. Easy class with transparent grading and some actually useful stuff you might wanna learn. I recommend
Has a great attitude and sense of humor. Clearly passionate about teaching. Lectures are very helpful for understanding assignment requirements and getting general writing advice. Allows resubmissions for every assignment to give us a chance to use feedback.
Professor Moulds was one of the nicest professors I have ever had here at UCSC. His writing assignments can be long but you are given alot of time, plus alot of feedback, and you can resubmit assignments with changes as many times as you want for a higher grade. Also, the fact that for some assignments you can write about whatever you want is fun.
This class took a lot of time, but the assignments were reasonable. Definitely felt a little like busy work. The professor's lectures were interesting, but the attendance policy was strict. Some of the assignments included public speaking, which was good practice but can be stressful. Overall, pretty easy class in comparison to other CSE courses.
Gerald Moulds was an absolutely fantastic professor. He was very responsive when it came to emails. If you have a question about a certain subject that lies within the class material, he will go out of his way to give you more resources as well as spend more time during the class period explaining your question in depth. If you can take him, do it.
Professor Moulds sets clear guidelines for all his assignments which are due weekly. There is a final presentation and a final essay for this class which contributes a significant chunk of your grade. Overall, it is a pretty manageable class and your TA also has a factor on how strictly things are graded.
Professor Moulds was a very enthusiastic lecturer. You can do well in the class by just doing the canvas assignments and looking at the lecture slides. His assignments are very intuitive and he offers extra credit on them. His 3D printing assignment was a fun opportunity to get the DSI certification.
he gave amazing lectures! very dedicated to making computer science understandable. the technical assignments were an introduction into different things, my favorite was the DSI one as you got to learn how to 3D print. As long as you pay attention/rewatch lectures and study for the final/midterm, you can get a good grade! Very easy and interesting!
Very straightforward, lectures can be a bit rambly but overall he provides interesting information, very easygoing guy, lots of extra credit offered
The professor is kind and great, but the class topics feel irrelevant. Assignments are tedious with no real purpose. Most of what we learn is just a repeat of high school English. It's good for credits but lacks valuable information. Easy A class if you don't care about it. Definitely needs to rework the coursework.
My favorite professor to date, the passion, joy, and effort Professor Moulds puts into teaching is highly admirable and brought me so much peace during a stressful academic period. I finally felt like I knew how to learn again thanks to Professor Moulds easy to understand and enthusiastic teaching. I wish he taught every class offered.
Great lectures and easy work make this a fun class. Took this for GE credits and was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was. Prof has a good sense of humor.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but Moulds is an incredible lecturer so I'd recommend showing up! He's a great speaker with obvious passion, a sense of humor, and lots of little anecdotes related to the material. The content isn't difficult as long as you keep up with the readings, and the technical and writing assignments are graded fairly.
Overall, this class had a lot of fun assignments such as the 3d printing project which I liked. Directions are very clear and easy to follow. Lectures are recorded and posted to canvas. Biweekly quizzes on reading, 4 short essay writing assignments, and 5 "technical" assignments (simple coding, 3d printing, spreadsheet making, ect.)
Lectures are a bit boring but otherwise good class. Generally one or two assignments a week, such as reading quizzes, writing assignments, and technical assignments. Everything is very doable, easy GE.
Clearly passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are very digestible, recorded, and entertaining. Unfortunately I am not a CSE major but if he taught more lower div CSE classes I would be the first to sign up. Amazing professor, wish he taught some programming classes I could sign up for
Very friendly professors, and very easy courses, even if you are not a CS-related major, you can easily get an A, as long as it takes some time, and the exam and homework are not difficult, I highly recommend this course as a GE course!!! Although some lectures are a little boring, I can still learn some useful things!
Moulds is the best professor I've ever had. He made a potentially tedious and boring class into something really enjoyable. I am writing this instead of working on the final project for this class (which is a lot of work, btw). If you don't wait to start it until 3 days before the deadline you'll be fine, the normal workload is pretty light.
The professor is funny and lectures are good. The class was way more work than I was expecting especially towards the end of the quarter, if you don't procrastinate, you should be fine.
Assignments are easy if you understand basic HTML and Python. His assignment have step by step guides (if followed you will get a A) plus each assignment will have extra credit as well. Has Bi weekly reading quiz's which are very easy. Midterm and Final were questions from said quizzes. Overall he cares about his students and will help you pass.
Professor Moulds makes this class a breeze, even for non-CS majors. Engaging lectures, fun projects like 3D printing, and fair grading. unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the free textbook. Definitely take this if you want an easy A!
Moulds is the real deal. Prepare for lots of writing and research topics to explore; the grading (depending on your TA) is pretty easy but YMMV. Lectures are great though some felt less important than others. Lecture and section is mandatory.
Very nice guy, will understand if you have any troubles in the class. Only gripe is class attendance is mandatory, miss 3ish classes and you drop a letter grade, though I'm sure he makes exceptions if you have a valid reason. SECTION IS MANDATORY, so pick your section wisely. Lots of research/writing, but grading is easy if you follow the rubrics
Great guy my problem isn't with his teaching it's the course content itself. Honestly feels like a busywork class but the work isn't too challenging. If you want to clear the major requirement do CSE115A as most of the assignments don't really feel meaningful. But if you need to graduate and need to clear the req this is a good choice.
Professor Moulds is a breath of fresh air if you're in CE. If you've taken the entry writing classes, this should be relatively easy. Sections are mandatory but the TAs are very flexible. Lectures are also mandatory but very engaging and relevant, in my opinion. You do two presentations, which were fun to do as well. All around an easy class.
Literally the best professor. Good class for anyone who wants to know history about computers and other online resources, or if you want to fill in some gaps on your computer terminology. Amazing lectures, even when he rambles or tells personal stories, they still relate and makes you understand what he's teaching. Fun assignments, amazing person.
Awesome guy and gives interesting assignments. If writing isn't your thing (STEM moment), then this class might feel like a slog. For me, I had a blast with the mandatory lecture presentation (do it in main lecture!) and got to talk/write about my interests all quarter. He also gives great advice for career/academia, so chat him up!
Gerald is such a great guy but he talks way too much for my liking so I did not enjoy the mandatory lectures. However, all his homework assignments are straightforward and real-life applicable. You have an assignment almost every week and must give one oral presentation and one poster presentation. No exams, overall great class.
Gerald is a really nice guy and is always happy to help with any questions or problems you have. Lectures are pretty interesting especially if you like history. The assignments are pretty straightforward and his goal is for you to actually learn the material. Exams aren't super difficult if you prepare and pay attention during lecture. I recommend!
entertaining lectures and just super nice guy. has fun stories and a clear passion for the subjects he teaches. i had a bunch of missing work due to some mental health issues and he was super understanding and allowed me to turn in late work. 10/10 dude would take again. work isnt super hard and he posts the slideshows from the lectures on canvas.
