Doesn't explain or answer questions - Also Rude when asking questions.
I liked this guy for trig. Very clear as to how to solve problems. Suggest.
his class is very very hard!
Took for Trig. Wants students to learn. Good prof. but he has a dry personality.
Very hard to follow his lectures; had difficulty explaining how to solve problem
the tests suck..but otherwish ok
Has a good grasp of the subject matter, but is unable to communicate to students
His knowledge of the subject is apparently vast. He explains things adequetly, but is unable to communicate with students. I e-mailed him several times about things and he never answered.
Makes you feel stupid for asking questions. He knows what he is doing but he can't explain it very well. He goes very fast. Very rude.
Has a lot of knowledge of subject but doesn't know how to explain it to the students. Also he is very rude when you ask questions!

The tests were a cinch. Multiple choice, no calculator. Takes attendance daily- Will pass around another attendance sheet if someone leaves early. An overall jerk, but easy.
He is not a good one!
Very uncompassionate and rude! If you are more than 8 min late for class, you don't get credit for being there. He also wouldn't excuse my absence when I had to miss class due to my two year old being in the hospital!! JERK!
He is rude and un helpful to students. He always wears the same clothes. White shirt , black shoes, white socks and pant. Moreover, he does not know how to use chalk. At the end of the class, all of his face and pant become white.

not friendly at all to students or coworkers, a real butt hole.
He's very intelligent, but his teaching methods aren't exactly excellent
very clear but hard tests!
you ask him a question adn he spends the next twenty minutes demoralizing you with his incoherent ramblings. he is the wart on the butt of society.
He has a severe case of PhD-itis. He finds himself to be better than everyone else and will not help you to safe his life.
I hear that he sold his soul satan so he could be more evil
and when i checked not hot i mean it! gross! but anyway...he's rude and gets very involved with math, but he knows what he is tlaking about. write down every example he does and go over it for the test and you should be fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN FOR ANYTHING. He shouldn't even still be teaching. You ask him a question and he makes you feel like an idiot for asking it. He thinks because he has a PHD he is better than you and is very unclear in his explanation.
This guy is so horrible. He has to be the absolute meanest professor and the most unhelpful. I have no idea how he is still teaching. He does not care about students.
Don't take him unless you want your life to suck for about 17 weeks.
Don't not take this professor. According to advisors, if he was not tenured, he would not have a job.
I dropped him immediately! Major control issues, went on and on about the math book he wrote and how the text being used in the class is inferior. His syllabus is like the prequel to the Satanic Bible. Get out while you still can! RUN!
Rubin is the absolute worst instructor at Marshall. He is condescending, rude, and doesnt give a crap about his students.
He seems like an awful guy the first day but that is just to weed out students. But he is hard but very thorough and he is willing to help if you just ask...i would take him again
This guy is so mean. He told me if I ever came back to his class, I should sit in the back row and stare out the window b/c he didn't want to look at my face. I had never said a word to this man until he said this. He gets a kick out of being a jerk.
He has an inferiority complex and feels like he has to belittle other people in order to feel better about himself. I would never again take a class he taught.
I went one day heard what he had to say and droped it the next day. He is rude, and just plain boring. Won't let you use calculators on tests. It is passed around the College of Business not to take him, as said by the advisors!
Rubin is the devil!!!! Do not take him by any means. If you take him, I promise you will have to retake him. He might know a lot about Calculus, but he knows nothing about teaching Calculus. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He is very demeaning to students, he is on this huge powertrip. His tests are impossible and He won't let you use a calculator. He does not answer questions without makeing you feel stupid. I HATE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!
He knows math very well, but he does not know how to teach it so that his students understand it. He lectures about somethings that are not even on the test. The test are multiple choice, but you are not able to use a calculator and are very difficult.
This guy is a joke. he is extremly rude to his students and wastes a lot of time complaining about how he isn't respected. He went off on me for chuckling about something i was thinking about.Overall I would never take him ever again.
Horrible. He is the strangest man alive on top of being the worst teacher on Earth. You just want to kick him in the face and scream at him to tell you what in the world he's talking about and why does he let the spit gather at the corners of his mouth
Pretty good teacher and will answer any questions. Study the homework, and the tests shouldn't be too bad.My biggest problem was staying awake b/c he is very boooring and goes off on tangets for 10 min bout how a 'pair' of something is 2 things. I dunno..
This guy is a wealth of knowledge. He has a terrible time communicating, he reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in the movie "Rainman". If you excel in math I would recommend him, if not, then I would avoid him at all cost.

I know he's weird, and yeah, he might make you feel dumb about asking a question, but Rubin is great at communicating an idea and always willing to help understand a concept. I just wish he wouldn't write out all tests and homework by hand!
His class is not easy. But if you show an interest in passing the class he is very helpful. He is also very knowledgeable in his field. If you're not a jerk you will learn a lot.
Dr. Rubin is the sexiest professor on campus. I especially enjoy the chalk covered saliva that gathers in the corners of his mouth.
I love math, but he made me hate it. He needs to leave MU before he gets himself in trouble. He shoots his mouth off to make himself feel better. HORRIBLE!
SATAN'S SPAWN! Nobody else could make an easy math class this hard. 1/2 my class dropped/failed. The chalk & spit are distracting, likened us to convicts, said we threatened to kill him. Learned nothing but how much one class can drop your GPA. DON'T TAKE
I had Dr. Rubin a couple years ago. Yeah, he might be a little on the odd side, but he is a good teacher. Don't base how well a teacher is by how he looks. You don't pay them to look good, you pay them to teach you.
He sucks
Made an easy class INCREDIBLY hard, writes out EVERY test by hand (chicken scratch), your entire grade is based on first two tests (don't fail them!), multiple choice tests (if you pass on partial credit, avoid him), he does know his crap though....
OMG! Terrible! It is unbelieveable how totally rude he is. If your not great at math, then dont take this one. One student ask a Q and he said "I have material to cover i have to move on" the worst.
This man is a total waste of oxygen. He acts like everyone is still in grade school. He talks down to you and tries to not go by university policy. If you care anything about your grade, STAY AWAY FROM THIS D*CK HEAD!!!!!!!!
This man is the worst teacher I have ever had at Marshall. I took his class and had an F so I dropped it, then the next semester I took it with another professor and got an A!!! That should tell you something about his teaching skills.
"Rubin" is perhaps the worst teacher i have ever encountered. His tests are 3 times as hard as the material that he teaches and he is rude and inconsiderate. Do not walk in late or he will call you out...Rubin, we are in college. NEVER TAKE H
Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. I had to drop his class. 30 people started out in his class and only 7 finished it. DO NOT TAKE! RUDE and INCONSIDERATE!!!
I've had to work my tail off just to get a B. He is a very inconsiderate person and passing his class with an A is a nice wish...
Rubin is the absolute worst professor I have ever had. He is totally evil. On day he passed around a second sign in sheet just so he could count a girl absent for leaving early, and she didn't even really leave early she was just going to the restroom.
Dr. Rubin is the absolute worst teacher i have ever encounted while being in college. He actually called me aside one day after class and told me that i smiled too much and if i continued to smile in his class, then i would need to drop because my smiling was a constant distraction to him. Our cla
he came before class and demanded I see him in his office. He acused me of lying about a sign in sheet, and threatened to take me to the Dean. I had to prove to him I was there. Still called me a liar. The he said "CONSIDER IT RESOLVED" UH!
Ithink he is rude, and he doesn't really care about whether or not his students pass his class. He seems happy about the fact that some people are failing his class. I don't think he is a good teacher, either.
His class is very boring and he is rude at times. Gave several speeches on how we need to drop his class. Gives hw, but never takes it up. Tests are fairly hard, and he's really strict on attendence. Don't take unless you really don't care if you don't learn anything about math.
This summa**** can lick my luke taint walker,he sucks dick in every category your fired.
This man is So rude. He deff. has issues! He seems to especially discriminate against females, but dont get me wrong, he hates ALL students! He provides no help, and seems very proud when he is able to get a student to drop his class. One of the WORST TECHERS EVER!

He is the most horrible person I have ever met and has no business teaching. He is rude and hateful and is no help whatsoever. He would love for u to fail. He will even tell u this at the beginning of the semester.

TERRIBLE needs to be locked in a mental fascility. DO NOT TAKE EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO COME TO SCHOOL EXTRA DAY TO AVOID HIS CONSTANT RAMBLINGS horrible
I have never had this professor yet he walked into a room I was in and was very sarcastic about someone opening a window. I am a 44 year old woman and have never been spoken to so rudely. EVER. I another setting this man would never be able to be so demeaning to so many.
He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. The material was easy for me, but I doubt if you dont have much math experience you will find it that easy. His lectures are increadbly boring, and for some reason he doesnt know how to properly erase a board!!!
SUCH A TERRIBLE TEACHER.
If your not specifically looking for a challenge... dont take Rubin! Drop the class and take Lancaster! Rubin insn't mean... he just has that, Im good at this crap so why aren't you, mentality. Oh, and dont even take the cell phone inside. If you try hard you should get a C, but its not easy.
This class was a joke. Bring headphones under a hoody if you want to be entertained (I did). Don't bother askin ?'s because he won't respond. If you get it you get it if not then drop.
I have never encountered a professor or person in general who is as rude and hateful as Rubin. He completely went off about the dumbest things and I dropped him quicker than a hot potato! Not only is he hateful, he is not good at teaching his subject. I am amazed that he is still with the university. He really should be locked in the pysch ward
Are you kidding me? I had this guy 2 yrs ago, he made my high school teacher seem hard. This was by far one of my easiest A's. ALL YOU GOT TO DO IS PAY ATTENTION, oh and never smile.

This guy sucks!! DO NOT take him. I repeat do NOT take him. He can't teach. When you do bad on the test it'll be your fault. He tells you to get drop slips and his notes go from one side of the board to the other. Plus he always looks gross! He has chalk on the freak'n side of his lip that builds and builds...oh and don't talk or laugh ..he flips!
Yeah... don't smile, if you're more than 30 seconds late don't bother, don't talk, don't be a slow leaner, don't miss class because of a non-medical emergency and for God's sake don't act like his teaching is the reason you're not learning. In fact... just try and skip being human all together!!!
this guy has to be the worst professor on the face of the planet. He has no life, because he cannot relate to people on a human like level. Someone needs to tell this jerk that there is more to life than math. I do not advise anyone to take this man's class. It would be a waste of your money and time.
WARNING!!!!!!!!!! do not take his class. he is the worst teacher i have ever had. he tries to get you to drop his class. that is the only thing he will explain throughly. he tries to talk over your head. he thinks you should already know most of the material he is suppost to be teaching you. if you do bad on a test it is your fault.
He is very rude and tries to get students without a "good background in math" to drop after the first test. He knows math, but not social skills. I have a B and it's not too hard, but if you're not good in math avoid him because he will point you out and insult you. Also, don't be late or miss because it will affect your grade.
Don't take this class. I have an A in this class, but I dread attending. He is very rude and lacks all social skills (must be one miserable person). Even if you aren't his "target" for attack, you are uncomfortable sitting there while he assaults others. He over explains the subject matter--points out the obvious, confusing the average student.
By far the worst professor i've ever had. He smiles when someone drops, like it's a game. He does this sucking noise that is absolutely irritating. He is covered in chalk...seriously does he even take a shower. He wears the same outfits every single week just in different order but more than likely he doesn't wash them. Not worth it!
Dr. Rubin is one of the most eccentric professors I had at MU. He may seem rude at times but he is quite knowledgeable and thourough. He is very picky, especially grading the exams. I would take him again for other math courses at MU. If you come to class, pay attention, and do your homework, you will do fine.
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE!! Do not take his class! He is rude and does not like when people smile. He is always covered in chalk and he even has it all up in his mouth... It actually seems like he wants his students to fail.
extremely rude. i laughed at the other ratings.. but then they slowly started coming true. people get yelled at for yawning, smiling, closing their eyes, and on some days even asking questions. the material isn't hard. but his behavior is extremely frustrating. take another professor.
wasn't clear or affective in teaching.
He's just ridiculous , rude as he can be. I would not recommend his class. I got C after making A's and B's on 4 tests, plus perfect attendence. worst prof, i've had for long time
Thank you Dr. Rubin. I'm now a Ph.D. in Biostatistics with a great life in Houston, TX. He is one of the best professors I have ever had, including the one's at UT medical center.
This guy yelled at me for SMILING one day, and would treat people like absolute morons if they were 30 seconds late to class... with that movie going on I found it hard to get parking even when I arrived an hour late and there was no sympathy there! His tests were hard and he was a rude, bitter old man who made you feel stupid for asking questions.
Really just kind of a bitter old man who acts as if there are about 100 better things to do rather than teach little heathen children. He's a complete buzzkill and is pretty unreasonable in ALL aspects of his teaching skills. Don't ask questions or act like you're happy, he'll make you feel like you're the dumbest person in class.
He's very boring. Just rambles and writes stuff on the bored. Does not try to make class fun at all!
Statistics. I LOVE math, but I HATE this class. His lectures involve writing 7 pages of notes a class...he makes everything more complicated than necessary, and is very rude. Tries to make students feel stupid and complains if you're more than 1 second late, despite he is late all the time. Tests are rediculous...DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
Teaches the material fairly well. Tests are slightly hard. He hates all interruptions. You will get a death-stare if your cell phone goes off or you show up late. He isn't very helpful. Student's questions are taken as an insult to his teaching. He is covered from head to toe in chalk (not lying on this one).
Told me to take notes when I was. Told me to drop the class. Smiles at his own jokes that suck. The sucking sound really bothers me along with the calk in the corners of his mouth.
I was in this class a total of.....55 minutes. He was a total jerk, counted one girl absent for being 7 minutes late the first day. He has absolutely no respect for students and seemed very very insecure. I knew I wasn't going to pass if i stayed. Switched teachers and it was much better.
He all but encourages those struggling to leave his class because they "are not cut out for a college caliber course." Uses notation that is wholly non-standard, so you have to basically relearn everything. Sorry, but he's just awful. There's nothing worse than paying $400 for a course taught by a person who doesn't care about this or respect you.
He is a horrible teacher. Spare yourself and switch while you can. He is proud of his dropout rate and has no respect for his students. I had a 3.7 last semester qand now I am failing this class... he is horrible. Sucky teacher. DONT TAKE HIM!
This is the WORST teacher I have ever had. He basically made me drop the class. Never explains anything correctly. Treats you like youre an idiot if you ask anything. Nasty and dirty and needs to wash the chalk off of him. WHATEVER YOU DO... DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THE COURSES HE OFFERS!!
He is the absolute worst teacher i have ever taken. He told me to drop his class and that i would fail. He thrives on failing students and he constantly has chalk all over his clothes. He was the most unpleasent person i have ever associated with in my entire life and i will never attempt to take his class again..NEVER!
Hard, but makes you learn. HW & solutions provided--very helpful. You shouldn't be late anyway so quit whining. The chalk is amusing. The 7 pages of notes I took every class gave me a B. He doesn't give away grades so if you don't want to learn, get an easier major that doesn't require higher MTH.
He is a good professor to take for Trigonometry. I agree with another post that he weeds out the students that aren't serious. He comes off in the beginning that he is difficult and can be a little abrasive, however I did just fine in his class. Sometimes tutors can make a little clearer but test are fairly simple. Stick with him for Trig I promise
Gerald Rubin is an unfriendly and rude professor. He is a mediocre teacher, and I would not recommend taking him. He gets chalk all over himself (even on his mouth) and he is mean.
Rubin is a HORRIBLE teacher, he is so rude, has no personality and should probably switch to another profession.CAN'T USE A CALCULATOR!All his test are hand written. His writing is horrible. All of his letters blend together!he gets chalk all over himself. Gotta love his ten inches of chest hair that hangs out of his polos everyday.DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
In my class, Dr Rubin reprimanded a student for yawning. The chalk is true, he retakes attendance if you leave, and he does joke about people dropping after each drop. That said, study and take math seriously, you will succeed. I earned a B. I didn't study for test #2, got a 71, and got a 88 for the course. You get what you earn. He is very fair.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD & YOUR GPA, don't take him. I am usually good with math but not with this man. He can't teach you just sit there like a deer in headlights, not knowing if you should run out or cuss him out. I wanted to do both. I stayed in the class and got a D. Please don't take him and tell others the same.
Dr. Rubin is nopt suited for teaching lower level math. He has difficulty explaining basic math because it is, for him, a second nature. If you miss a test, even university excused absence, just go ahead and drop the class because he will design the test to fail you. He can also really look at the real rules for significant digits. Don't take him.
Very easy as long as you go over his notes. Likes to hear himself talk, and explains things too much. Gives non-mandatory homework which has questions just like the tests. Overall easy.
Living proof that teachers are not hired based on personality. Nasty and disheveled, I would have thought him a beggar if we had met off campus. Asked to drop during the first week because I 'wasn't qualified' to take his class. The joke's on him, I don't need it anyway. I would not recommend him, based on appearance and arrogance alone.
Dr. Rubin is very helpful to those willing to learn. Make a good example for him in the early going, because he picks disruptive students and makes it known he does not appreciate distractions in his room. He gives great hand written study guides, and the HW is harder than the tests. I am hoping to take him for Calc this Summer if he teaches it.
He is so terrible! He took so many points off my tests because I didn't do it the way he taught the class. I showed the proper work and got the correct answer but lost an A because I didn't you his method. What a close minded man. Be careful for this if you take him.
Dr. Rubin is probably the brightest math professor at MU. I like his homework handouts with all the answers. He explains things well. His test are part mult. choice/part worked out. He marks off for the dumbest things. Must explain in detail. No calculators on tests. You must attend class or have pts off final avg. Hard, but take him anyway.
Freak of Nature. This man eats chalk and breathes it as a weapon. Anger issues and generally an evil person. Avoid if possible.
Holy hard to follow. He could not explain hardly anything well. Plus, he never once used the book and the homework he assigned was ridiculous. It was page after page of his chicken scratch writing which was impossible to read (I had to skip problems because of it) and due to only give 3 grades in the semester, my bad first test caused me to drop.
This professor expects everyone coming into his class to already know what he is going to teach and all the terminology that goes with it. I think that a teacher is supposed to teach not get aggravated with students when they ask questions. If you don't want to teach your students find another profession!
Not very good at explaining and does not use very many examples to aid in teaching.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He is the worst math professor I have ever had. I normally do very well in math but he made everything so hard. Our class dropped from 38 people down to 12. That should tell you something. He sent out emails at least twice a week telling us how and when to drop the class. He is an absolute horrible teacher.
I had him last semester and he was no where near as bad as the rating here. He does expect you to be in his class and prepared before it starts. He doesn't put up with peoples excuses and he expects you to know algebra before this class. Tests weren't too bad, but he does walk around with chalk all over him and on his face.
Dr. Rubin has been my favorite professor at Marshall University. Yes he is strict on attendance, but you really need to be in class to learn the material. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests...and although his lectures might seem fast-paced and intense, his exams are much more reasonable.
Only good thing I can say is he's knowledgeable but that's it. He doesn't explain anything and is rude and treats you like an idiot if you ask questions.takes roll twice a class period if someone leaves. syllabus has 2 pages devoted only to his attendance policy. doesn't use required text, uses different notation that text and makes you use his way
the WORST professor ever. No help whatsoever, doesn't use the book's formulas. Rude when asked to go over something again. "Doesn't have time to go over it again." DO NOT TAKE !
TAKING HIM IS A MISTAKE! Only grades in the course are two tests and the final. This would be fine except for his tests being extremely difficult. I studied his 50 page homework packets front and back but they didn't seem to help my grade. I completed both tests thinking I got an A, in reality I got low Cs. Worst professor I've taken.
I honestly did not think it was that bad. success is very simple. He gives you very detailed notes and plenty of time to copy, his tests literally consist of the easiest problems on the homework packets. I aced every test when so many did poorly because people panic at his weird style of teaching. It was concrete with little to no confusion.
Dr Rubin was one of my favorite Math professor in Marshall. He does walk around with chalk all over him and on his face. He gives extremely detail notes that covers more than exams, as long as you make notes, you would easily score an A.
Dr. Rubin's lectures are very boring. If you're actually dedicated to your grades, however, I would recommend him. Tests are multiple choice, and he gives super good notes/homework problems to practice exactly what will be on the test. It's a pain to do the homework 600 pages throughout the semester, but worth it for an easy A if you put in work
Dr. Rubin is extremely rude and does not care about his students. He has a huge ego and makes that very clear on the first day. Do not take his class, you will fail.
This is the worst excuse for an educator I have ever experienced. He encouraged my whole class to drop because he "didn't think we could do it" he actually said that to many people in the class. He is ridiculous and unhelpful, he will not answer questions if you have them.
Rubin knows the material inside out. Period. If you devote a lot of time outside of class you can do well. People on here complain about the homework, but he never even looks at it. You can do all or none if you want. I personally see it as a good thing because you have a variety of problems to practice. Lectures are a little dry. Tests reasonable.
Class was horrible, lectures were horrible, tests were horrible. Rubin "teaches" at the class instead of to it. Allows for up to 9 unexcused absences but gets irate when you miss more than 1. Half of the class failed the first test and about a third dropped it.
His only opportunity for grades are the 3 tests. Non-mandatory homework everyday, but if you don't do it you'll be lost. Pretty unclear and even confuses himself sometimes. Came to every class and did all homework yet failed the first exam. He tends to be rude to you if you don't understand something. DO NOT TAKE HIM AT ALL COSTS. Do not expect As.
In my class there was about 35 people to start out with, then after the first test many people dropped except for twelve. After the second test, three people failed. So that leaves 9 students to maybe pass the course. Rubin knows what he is talking about, but he just can not teach. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Terrible professor, all the bad things you read here are true. He absolutely sucks. How he has a job still is beyond comprehension.. Whatever you do DO NOT TAKE HIM. change your schedule. if his class is a must have, still don't take it. Only way I will ever take him again is if his class was the only one i had that semester.
People here are being too hard on Dr. Rubin. What really matters is that his lectures are consistently clear and if you make an effort to follow them, you'll pass. I've had plenty of professors in the math department put far less effort into educating their students. The only downside is you had better understand him in lecture; he's a bit awkward
Go to class, take notes exactly as they appear on the board, do the homework packets verbatim because the exams will be very very similar. Don't skip steps when showing your work, because he prefers work shown in "GREAT DETAIL". He is helpful if you go see him.
He may look like he is intimidating, but he really isn't. The only thing intimidating is the amount of packet homework he gives you. My suggestion is to do the packets because it definitely helps you practice and learn the material. The exams are handwritten and multiple choice, but nonetheless CAKE. Tutor is definitely needed if you don't get it.
Dr. Rubin is not so bad, really. He is tough on students who show up late or skip class. However, if you do the homework assignments he gives you in class you should make it out with at least a B. He only gives three tests, so you have to study hard and keep up on the homework. Overall, it was a good class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO! Professor Rubin almost made me change my major but I decided it was not worth it because of him!!!
He is the greatest professor I've ever had. He's an absolute genius, explains very well, but he's not exactly super nice.
He. Didn't. Let. Us. Use. Calculators!! I CANNOT stress this enough! If you aren't good at math, you will STRUGGLE in this class. If you can take someone else DO IT!!!
