I wasn't looking forward to this class, but what a surprise! The short stories are fascinating and enjoyable, but when I come to class I see how much I've missed reading on my own. Very enlightening discussion in class and helps when you do a journal entry. Plus, she's funny and enjoys a laugh with students. very cool.

she is fair and helpful. She schedules days in class just to work on journals before they are due. If you don't come, you miss alot. She will correct and help you revise before an assignment is due. Then you can revise for at least a passing grade after you turn it in. But excepts no excuses. all late works gets a penalty, no matter what!

she tells it like it is. If you don't like that, you won't like her.

She was very insightful on our class discussions and the readings were always good. I could have done without the reading journal, but as long as you don't put it off until the end you'd be fine. Trying to take her again for a higher level course.

Harmon is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Insightful, humorous, fun, the most helpful-wants to help. She takes care of her students and emails and responds beautifully. She is organized and makes her students feel comfortable. Get her as a teacher, it's a great experience! Easy stories, DISCUSSION is mandatory. It's not hard!

Dr. Harmon, is AMAZING!! She makes class so much fun. I took her in the evening for about 3 hrs and it was never boring. Please take her b/c you will not regret it.

I took Professor Harmon for GGC1000. I think the class itself is a waste of time but professor Harmon is a sweetheart! She was really nice and tried her best to make the class as entertaining as she could. She really tries to help with everything she can, especially if it is English related. I'm hoping I can take her for English 1102.

I loved having Professor Harmon and miss her every time I go to my new English professor. She is extremely enthusiastic about what she teaches and loves to talk to anyone and everyone and will clear up any problems you have in an instant. I would recommend her if you're looking for a good teacher with a great personality.

Requires work every single class period! If it's not a quiz (almost every class!)then it's essay writing or oral reports. Relentless. But you can freely express yourself and she leads interesting discussions. Wants you to relate the readings to your own life so that's cool too. not a hard class, but reading and writing EVERY SNGLE day! ALOT!

She definitely has a sense of humor, but she also tells it like it is. Handles obnoxious students with class and, like she always tells us, never stoop to someone else's level. Learned a lot, not just about literature.

Wonderful teacher!!!!! She has a caring and understanding personality, but don't think you're going to get over on her. Motivates her student to be the best they can be. Offers extra help. Work was fairly easy. Just don't be lazy and show up to class!!! I am a bio major, but this class almost made be turn to English.

Forget about using your laptop in class. You are told to close it down, even if you are doing the reading online!! Very unfair. She even puts it in the syllabus--No Laptops. No Phones. And she's not even that old. Very uncool! If you hide your ipad, she walks up right next to you while she's teaching and shakes her head. too uncool for GGC.

Great! Great! Great! She is an awesome professor, she allows a lot of leeway on papers, as long as you cite the book that you use and use quotes. Her tests were also easy. A lot of reading but she allows you to pick what you want to read. Take her! Also, you need to talk a lot... she likes participation!

I truly enjoyed taking this class. She was engaging. intellectually stimulating and class was fun. She is helpful and well versed in her craft. I would HIGHLY and WITH NO RESERVATIONS Recommend that any person looking for a dynamic English professor and coming to GGC to take Dr. Harmon.

Good class, but if you submit a paper even one minute after the dropbox deadline, she will penalize it a full letter grade. And she does not accept the last paper AT ALL if it's late--even by a few minutes late. Too strict for me.

Her class is heavy on presentations and group work. She encourages and grades for class participation-- so plan to be alert, prepared and say something significant each class. She offers lot of feedback, is helpful, and easy to understand. Her tests are easy if you have done the req'd reading. She allows 2 of 3 papers to be turned in late.

Yes, lots of group presentations, but she gives individual grades, not group grades which is great. I don't feel like I have to make up for others who don't prepare. We plan together but we are graded seperately.

She is really a great teacher. Teacher like professor Harmon are very rare. He is clearly here to help not make your life miserable.

Dr. Harmon is a very intuitive and distinguished woman, with a knack for knowing what her students are thinking. She makes you write essays and in-class writings often, but they are never incredibly difficult. Her expectations are made very apparent first day, and she has a love for her subject. One of the most engaging professors I've met.Loved it

Dr. Harmon has a good sense of humor that is motivating and helps you see the big picture. I never would have read the essays and stories had it not been for her helpful insight, but you do have to participate and talk in class. And you must put away your phone. She HATES to even see a phone on a desk and calls it a pacifier.

Overall, this professor was excellent in her teaching ability and considerate of the homework amount.

If you don't bring your book, she marks you absent! If you don't talk in class, she fails you. If you use your phone even once, you are absent. Get Real! Avoid. Find a more relaxed teacher.

super organized, always prepared for class. I took her as a dual enrollment student once a week (3hr class so she let us have a 15 min break in the middle) Homework was manageable,she expects you to talk in this class but you only have to say one or two things per class for points. not a harsh grader and she is willing to help you with anything!

Kind of annoying at times, but she teaches well. She makes sure students fully understand assignments, and she grades fairly. Homework assignments are usually very easy and manageable.

Great discussions. Bring your books and talk in class. Refer to the reading assignments. Even page #s. An easy A for participation if you do. No phones tho. Very anti-phone!

Leave your phone alone. Bring your book or else your grade suffers. She will embarrass you about texting in class. Nearly impossible to get an A. But talking in class about the reading helps a lot.

I took 1101 and 1102 with her. 1102 had twice as much reading. Very difficult. Really a heavy HEAVY workload. Papers too. You can find an easier grader as well.

Professor Harmon really wants to see her students succeed. Her lectures are interesting and she does a great job of engaging her students. Expect quizzes about assigned reading and papers which she will walk you through. I highly recommend her, I took her English 1101, and 1102 classes.

Really diverse readings, it truly is world lit with her. Had some really amazing discussions. Read poems, essays, short stories, and Othello. 2 essays but both are short. A few quiz's, all really easy. Take-home final. Take her for World Lit, you will not regret it. She is super nice and easy to talk too.

Her English 1102 is harder than other professors. I know. I took it several times. You consideered absent if you forget your book or use your phone. Papers are long and so involved. More complicated than necessary.

She assigns TOO MUCH WORK! Papers are like novels. Research work is grueling! I got a C and worked day and night for it. And I got an A in English 1101.

World Lit rocks! Short readings. Good films. Great discussions. More participation than papers. You DO have to participate, tho. Loved the Hindu readings, Zen parables, folktales and myths, Egyptian Book of the Dead! I'm not a lit major and it was great!

Participating is everything! Leave your cell in your bag. "Find a home for your phone." hahahaha. Really, you can't even keep cell out. It's good tho. Everyone gets into it.

Dr. Harmon is one of the sweetest prof. you'll ever have! If you try on your papers, you can get A's. It's a summer class, so we did not get a lot of time to write papers, but they were easy! I enjoyed the readings she assigns, and the class conversations are enjoyable so participation is easy. Gives reading quizzes, in class writing. TAKE HER!

was a great, it really is world lit with her, have short readings and poems from all over the world, a few pop quizzes on some readings the next class after you read and it is an oral quiz so you have to listen carefully to questions. No tests but assigned two short 3-5 pg. papers . Is a great class to take in summer, 3 group assignments in class.

She assigns TOO MUCH WORK! Find an easier teacher for 1102, With shorter papers, and less READING!!. IT'S GRUELING with her!. She does warn you at the start tho. Very tough grader. And your absent if you don't bring your book. Or take out your fone, or you rest your head on the desk for a second!

You have to like to read! Correction: You have to LOVE to read to do well. You have to love to do research too. You have to love to talk in class. But mostly you have to LOVE to read. Ditch the phone too.

Great if you like discussion! Participation is a big part of the grade. Make sure you do the assigned reading, there are in-class quizzes. The midterm and final papers are open-book (having the books is required!), and the group project isn't too hard if you know how to research. Just don't use your phone for anything more than checking the time!

Professor Harmon is a nice person. As a professor, not so much. I am not the best writer out there but every time she has graded my papers, she has given me like a C. Like this is just a 1000 level class. Why be so harsh? In my other classes when I write papers I make at least a B. If you hate reading, stay away from her. It's all I can say.

World Lit. is a great class with readings from all over the world, not just European. Othello tests are easy. Lots of review first--she gives all sorts of helpful hints as she teaches. Same attention to everyone whether you talk a lot or a little, but it's not so easy to earn participation grade if you're quiet. Fair grader tho.

Dr. Harmon is really sincere, kind, and helps you outside of class. Through my writing for her class in Medical Humanities, I have been able to cope with many problems I have been dealing with for a long time. She is a wonderful professor, with advice that is worth Gold. I definitely recommend her.

I love English and even though I love it ,this class was not very hard . You have to read maybe 2 pages before a few classes but that is nothing . Also you only have to write 3 papers . The exams are matching from what you have to read . She loves opinionated people and people who speak up in class ,I loved her and I would take it again

Dr. Harmon is a thorough, engaging professor. I always left her class feeling as though I learned something valuable. Often, I left with concepts to ponder over outside of class. She's a fair grader and, from my experience, is not nit-picky. The downsides: no rubrics are given and she only provides feedback on printed work submitted by hand.

You gotta love to read! You can find a less demanding English professor. Hard to get an A.

You really gotta love to read. And write long papers. Just about anyone is easier. Keep looking, espeically if you have to have an A. A's are nearly impossible from her.

Very nice and respectful to students, even when she fails you, and she fails lots of students, but even then, she is nice about it. Never personal. She doesn't change a policy tho, she says to be fair to everyone, Be sure to read all the policies in her syllabus.

If I could choose PARTICIPATION MATTERS 3 times then I would. She tells the class that if you use your phone in class, you are as good as absent. Same thing if you do not talk in class. Friendly and helpful, but she says shes hates phones and shes not lying!! Same thing about not bringing your book to class. Your as good as absent.

This is hands down one of my all-time fave professors! I took her for 1101 and 1102 and was not disappointed. She answers emails promptly, has an accurate day by day schedule, and will help you grow as a writer. She is willing to help, as long as you turn things in on time she will most times allow a re-do. Her comments on your work are helpful.

I absolutely love Dr. Harmon!!! I took her ENGL 1101 class and decided to take her again for 1102. You have to read what she assigns but when you come to class she allows open discussion on the reading assigned so you can ask questions and understand. She does quizzes but as long as you have read you will be fine. She is a really nice & pleasant.

Very helpful, very interesting. Not a lot of lectures, open discussion instead. A good listener, and she remembers what you said even weeks later. Friendly class atmosphere. But ditch the phone, she will fail you for participation if your on your phone. Gives a few warnings, then just gives F for participation grade.

What a amazing class. This should be your first class. She will help you develop basic skill sets that you will need throughout your college and work life. If you are lucky enough to get her class jump on it. I have one issue, but I would still take her class. I wish she was more open to technology in the class. Be ready for no laptops :-(.

I took her "Short Stories" class and was very pleased by the course. We were given a syllabus and it matched exactly what we did throughout the class itself. She has toned down the intensity of her class, most assignments and tests were open book. Great teacher, very interactive class.

You have to talk if you want to pass. Honestly, if it was not for this class moving online, I would not of had a good participation grade. I came to every class and would talk, but she still gave me a low grade. She is a caring professor! Gives good feedback. I enjoyed her lectures and the readings that we did. Dr. Harmon is incredibly knowledgeable and kind. She clearly has a passion for teaching and seemed really optimistic that everyone would love the material as much as she does. The stories that were chosen reflected a diversity of writing styles and subjects and included minority viewpoints.

Dr. Harmon is a wonderful professor. Attached to most of the material that I wrote, she gave kind and constructive feedback that encouraged me to improve throughout the semester. She was organized and had the entire semester's schedule accessible with clear instructions. I could really feel that Dr. Harmon genuinely cares about her students.

She answers emails right away and gives clear direction. Helpful feedback on papers and discussion posts. So much feedback! Fair grader. Clear directions and even some sample paragraphs to show what she's teaching. Fun! I wish I could take a 1103 with her! I always had a good time answering her topics and posting to the class. She gives class time for writing in class but you can write and post remotely too. Go to her class discussions and she reviews alot so you are ready to write and answer her questions. Lots of short answer questions instead of long papers. Class discussions are the best! Edgy and chill at the same time.

American lit is a great class! Lots of different writing assignments and lots of topic choices. Sometimes even reading choices. But all the selections are exclelent and some are of-the-beaten track, like Native American lit. She poses intelligent questions to write about, and gives encouraging feedback most of the time!

Super excited to be in her class! She has lots of good energy. Its only the first week, but I can tell she's got her heart in it. Very happy to have ended up with her. Can't wait to return to class and start the readings.

Be sure to take advantage of her writing workshops (optional to attend). She gives great feedback and is very understanding and sweet. Please participate in her lectures! They are so interesting and loved all the stories we have read for this class. She is particular about late papers but she does give us time and opportunities to complete them.

I made it through by following her feedback and getting her help. Good stuff to read and some sort of writing assignment for most of what we read. Tedious and steady work but fun to read stories for homework. I love reading short stories now. I feel educated knowing these stories. some are famous and I never would have known.

Class discussions were fun, sometimes funny, and very useful. She asks lots of the same questions for writing papers, so if you can follow the talk in class, you have ideas for writing papers and answering her questions. GO to the Workshops if she offers them!! She give individual attention and she's easy to talk to!

Go to the workshops she gives and youll get lots of help. There are before you hand in papers so you can insure a good grade. I also took her for online course and she allows you to hand in a draft for the last paper so you get feedback and corrections before you hand it in for grade. Helpful!

All the feedback helps. Repeats questions on the writing exams so its easy to do better cuz she corrects alot. Practice exams for low points gets ready for exams that are worth more. Lots of reading the study guides on D2L so you got go back to the d2l handouts but those handouts help

Dr. Harmon is amazing, and she loves feedback and ideas about stories. She encourages students to challenge her and the ideas of the story, and will help with group projects. She is very understanding to students and wants to help everyone pass her class. Participation does matter in this class, so make sure to read every story before class.

This professor has a strict grading system, but engaging with her teaching style pays off. Attend the workshops and use resources like Unstuckstudy to prepare - they can really help boost your grades.

I screwed myself by using Unstuck study and AI. I hate that she was so helpful and gave enough time between assignments, it was humiliating i have noone else to blame. She recommended tutoring but i was too stoubbon. My GPA suffered. my reputation with the college and i have to retake the class. Money time wasted and all my fault.
