She's really sweet and enjoys what she teaches. There are NO papers!! and there are four exams, but if you read and go over powerpoints, they should be a breeze. She gives 100pts for attendance, so you have to go because you never know when it'll pop up. Overall, great professor and interesting class! =)
She's one of the sweetest professors I'll ever have! She loves what she does and it shows throughout the course.
She's pretty interesting, has random group assignments that she uses for participation and attendance grade. Interesting course overall, not difficult, just go to class take notes, read.
Good class overall. I didn?t care for the groups. That part of the class seemed lame and a waste of time. Lectures however were interesting. If you go to class everyday, read the chapters, you?ll do fine. I'd take her again if I had too. Very friendly professor who is easy to talk too.
I too didn't care for groups, but I did enjoy the class. I think I will be a better parent for taking this course. Stay for lectures or you'll miss easy points and you really should read the chapters, it helps. I'd recommend taking her, she was friendly and easy to listen too.
What a great professor! I can't say enough good things about her! Lectures were always interesting AND necessary, a lot of her test questions come from the lectures. If you take good notes, attend class, and read the book you should be able to get an A. TAKE HER!!!
amazing teacher. so passionate about the subject and about sharing interesting things with the class. went out of her way the entire semester to be clear and fair. always reminded the class online ahead of time about tests, assignments, etc. groups were a waste. tests were awesome. very fair and manageable. take this teacher!!
Amazing teacher! She's very passionate about the subject. This class made me love this type of psychology, and I'm not even a psychology major. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Dr. Lotze is so sweet! By that I mean you can tell she is a truly nice person. She has experience working in gerontology. I love that she tells stories about her family. She seems truly interested in her students. Her class is easy enough that you can relax and just enjoy the class and material without freaking out every test.
She is nice, caring and passionate but her way of grading is horridly disorganized. 100 points out of 600 is from class works that will be assign COMPLETELY RANDOM with no way to make up. No prior note and may collect it or may not collect it depends on her mood. Sometimes you won;t know because she might collect it prior the start of class. Horrid
this lady is ridiculous. she starts three minutes early every class, so if you're not on HER time, you are going to miss notes and sometimes even random quizzes and group work that she only gives you 5 minutes to do. these assignments make up 100 points of your grade (with no makeups!) so be early and watch out for her baby-talk and odd scarves.
She's a bit nuts but she is passionate about developmental psychology and her class is pretty easy as long as you attend. However, if you miss class she's not very understanding. The group assignments are a bit ridiculous but the work isn't hard.
BE IN CLASS 10 MIN EARLY. She's starts early and finishes late. If you watch a video in class TAKE NOTES! A lot of information, random class assignments, didn't really maintain the information. BUY THE BOOK! you'll need it as a back up!
I agree w/ everyone else, she is a bit nuts and she does start early which is extremely annoying b/c she goes fast as it is & collects things in the beginning of class. Nowhere near an easy A but a B is very attainable. Dont miss class, she gives random assignments. Shes passionate but not a good professor. she kind of sucks actually. u can pass
Lotze is passionate about Developmental Psychology and is a very thorough teacher- covers the whol book- keep up with the reading- a lot of in class assignments (kind of her way of making it mandatory attendance) if you show up- easy 100 points. drops lowest test grade and very easy to talk to-open door policy- Easy A if you do the work
If you can get into her class, definitely take her! Go to class and READ what she tells you to read. There are in-class assignments that are easy if you are prepared. Tests are very fair, the study guides help. She is very sweet and always enthusiastic in class. She's awesome!
Fantastic! I love her energy and fast pace. She uses great examples to better explain the material. Definitely try to get in her class!
Mrs Lotze is super nice and bubbly. She gets really excited about her lectures and life span dev. isn't that boring of a subject anyways, i learned a lot. The exams are not hard but attendance is mandatory because she gives out these stupid group exercises that are graded. besides that she's great, i'd recommend her any day.
she is really nice and knows her material her test are fair, you do have to study but nothing to serious, going to class is a must since she gives out group activity but never tells you when she will. would take her again.
What happened??!?! The first hand full of classes were great. After the 3rd quarter, things declined. She became extremely difficult, childish, and "sneaky". She has "favorites" in class and will make exceptions for them and not for others. Tests are easy if you study/read but classes are absolutely mandatory bc of her "pop" assignments
Mrs. Lotze is a really nice lady but I hate her class, especially the group activities. Some things were interesting, some were not. Her tests are hard too.
very good psych teacher, her exams are a little difficult though, the multiple choices will make you second guess yourself a lot, reading assignments are necessary because she will quiz on them in class, great teacher nonetheless
Overall a good teacher, very interested in what she teaches. Attendance important due to reading assignments make sure you keep up with the syllabus. Tests are not too hard as long as you read over the notes AND the book.
She is a great teacher and extremely knowledgeable. You only need to go to class when things are due, which is stated in the syllabus. I recommend getting the study guide book instead of the textbook. It was a lot more useful.
Attendance is mandatory, she likes to give assignments at random points during class. Her tests are hard and you always have about 3 discussion questions that you don't know the topic prior to the test. Class is a bore, I think she enjoys hearing herself talk. Wouldn't recommend this professor.
Class can be fun or not so fun. She is really interested in what she does and really nice. She stays on topic so it can get kind of boring but if you study and pay attention you will do well on the tests and the class. She drops 1 exam, homework is kind of random because she doesn't announce it, you just have to check the syllabus.
Good Teacher! She knows what she's talking about! Even though role is not taken, she does give in class assignments and shows a lot of videos that are on the tests, so i would come everyday! The info is not hard and she presents it well! The tests are kinda specific so just study the powerpoints, videos from class, articles, & read the book!
Gives a lot of busy work, requires that you read chapters before class, give weekly quizzes. The material is pretty easy
she is a nice teacher that loves teaching and she loves children. She seems passionate ion what she does. Her test are hard though, you HAVE TO KNOW the material very well. her question come in her words not the book. READ THE BOOK and also pay attention to her lectures.
Great professor! Very clear with what she is teaching. She really knows and loves what she is talking about. Alot of online homework, reading the book is defiantly a must. Make sure you go to class because sometimes there are pop quizzes and in class assignments. All in all, a great class!
Pretty straightforward. I tried skipping class and ended up missing some 5 and 10 point in class assignments. Exams are online but are very specific and difficult. I suggest reading through the book before the exams and coming to class.
Extremely entertaining, makes the subject interesting. There is some group work so you should go to class, but it's not mandatory. Have some review to do before class, but other than that it's 3 easy reading guides relevant to the subject at hand and online tests. Wants to help students do well. I would definitely take her again!
She is a very sweet lady but this class was on over drive all semester. one 10 page paper, one 5-8 page paper, quizzes every class, in class assignments, random homework assignments, 3 tests, and a cumulative final. That amount of work was way to much for a little 3 credit class. I will never take a class with her again. It was a nightmare.
The test were difficult, she was a good teacher very interested in what she was teaching but the way she worded her tests questions were confusing and you have to know the book like the back of your hand to do well
she is such an angel. she WANTS you to do well. just KEEP UP WITH hw!! that'll be your grade determinator-lots of pts. keep up with reading and pay attention in class! tests are tricky but online, final was ok-gives you a study guide. i was 1/4 of a pt away from an A and she was SO sweet and said i earned it :) love her!! take her but work hard!
She is really nice and passionate about psychology. Pretty straight-forward class. Everything was spelled out on syllabus. My advice is to go to class. She gives random assignments for points and shows videos that she will put questions about on the tests.
Lotze is probably the best teacher I've ever had! she is extremely passionate in what she is teaching, you do have to go to class but you get easy points for small assignment in class. Her tests can be a little tricky but if you go to class, take notes, and do the online assaignments everything is clearly outlined, not to mention you learn a lot
I wouldn't recommend her unless you want a sarcastic prof. In her emails just rude, but totally different in person! Dont post annotated notes from lecture and expects you to get everything! SLOW DOWN! Her short answers on test consist of you writing 15 plus sentences just to get your point across to her of course and at least 10 out of 15 points.
She is so interested in what she teaches and so helpful to anyone that asks for it. I would take her over and over again. You will have assignments, but it's nothing that's unclear or too time consuming.
look she is a great teacher. she explain's well. but her exams are confusing. if you are taking this class just to listen to her lecture great she is interesting, but let me just tell u now her exam are so confusing. maybe it was just me.
She teaches well and is really passionate about what she teaches. The first 4 exams were online but the final is cumulative and in-class so that kind of screws you over if you don't actually study the material throughout the semester. She really enjoys a good conversation so she'll try to help you out in any way possible! I'd recommend her.
When I started this course, I was very excited to learn about the subject. However, Dr. Lotze ruined this for me. Her expectations were unclear on papers & her tests were extremely hard. We had a ten question quiz at the beginning of every class. Her lectures were long & boring. Stay away!
I'm in this course right now and I constantly think about what a great choice it was. Professor Lotze is such a sweet angel. She's so passionate, energetic and animated in her lectures because she loves teaching the subject. All of the exams are online and so is the final. Just read the book and come to most classes and you're solid.
She's a good professor. Lots of group work which was a bit annoying because the class was a huge lecture. All of the tests are online. There's online homework that's easy to forget about. She doesn't really send out too many reminders so you have to keep track of it yourself.
Really sweet professor--knowledgeable and caring. All tests were online (including the final), and there were about 5 or 6 Blackboard-submitted written homework assignments throughout the semester. Also included some online LaunchPad homeworks which were super easy. Prof Lotze's lectures are pretty interesting and this class is easy. Take it!

If you want an A in the class then class is mandatory. She does regular participation points that add up. She loves what she teaches and she is the nicest lady. Would take over and over again. Tests are online and relatively easy. Never read the book. A lot of common sense. Extra credit offered but you probs won't need it. TAKE PSYC 304 WITH HER!!
I took her for PSYC 306. She's a nice lady and she seems passionate about the course, however, she sets you up for failure. She doesn't hand back exams, group quizzes, or all the articles for the exams and final and then those questions pop up on it on the exams. I struggled on all exams and I went to class. The final is also over 100 questions.
She was honestly a fantastic professor. A lot of good insight, and personally I thought the class was really interesting. Stay on top of online assignments and attend class and it will be super easy. The only reason I got a B was I forgot a few assignments because I was stressing about anatomy. Also all of the tests were fairly easy, and online.
She is very animated and uses an online textbook to help account for grades. She also assigned people into alphabetical groups and would periodically have the group do quizzes or other activities. Her exams were online so there were never any big issues. She's incredibly friendly and will help if you ask for clarity.
This class was decent overall. The information was interesting and applicable to real life. The tests were a bit overwhelming due to the quantity of information and infrequency of the tests. Grades are a bunch of papers, one interview paper, in class quizzes/group work, 3 tests, and online chapter quizzes. She's helpful if you have questions.
Dr. Lotze is the sweetest, most caring professor I've had thus far. She's super accommodating and understanding. Not to mention she's passionate about her work and excellent at teaching it. As a non-major, it was very easy to take an interest in the class because the material is so interesting.
Developmental Psych was a great class with this professor. She's super nice and helpful. All of the exams are online (including the final), Launch Pad HW and in lecture group activities make your grade.
I really enjoyed Dr. Lotze's class, you can tell she's very knowledgeable about the subject and her lectures are interesting. She doesn't post her notes online and there are a lot of little group assignments for classwork grades, so going to class is a must. The exams are also online and she gives you a few days to do them. I'd recommend
Dr. Lotze is energetic and engaged. There's an in-class assgt. almost every class but not worth very much. Online homework due every week and 5 other HW assignments that require a lot of reading w/ a quiz. 3 exams, 1 cumulative final that are all online (I didn't study and did well). Easy A or B and Dr. Lotze is fun to listen to! I recommend.
Tests are online, in class assignments are easy, so just go to class. If you do all the assignments and get a B on the tests you should have an A at the end. Don't slack because it seems easy though, because I did this at the beginning and didn't score as high on the tests. Study before even though they're online.
She doesn't know the answer to a lot of people who ask questions in her class. Mandatory attendance, even though the online quizzes and homework are the easiest ever. Easy A. Gotta buy tophat and launchpad. I would take the online version instead. If she notices a lot of people aren't there, class work points double for the day and screws others...
I love Dr. Lotze but she didn't ever post her powerpoint slides up on black board, so you really need to come to class to take good notes. We had quizzes due on each chapter of reading-READ the text then do the quiz, seriously. (She drops lowest 3 I think). Test weren't so bad but do study so you can get a good grade and you should be fine.
Dr. Lotze is great, she really cares about her students. There's a lot of work in this class, attendance is mandatory and there's a lot of in class projects that help your grade, COME TO CLASS. Even though there's a lot of work and tests are tough, it's still relatively easy to get an A, work is spread out and weight evenly, one bad test grade ok.
Dr. Lotze is obviously very passionate about the class. This course was an easy A, as long as you show up to class. All of her exams are online, but they are about 60% lecture material and 40% launchpad/textbook material. It was fun material to learn about!
Shes difficult to work with, a struggle all semester.
Dr. Lotze is so caring about her students. You can tell she's passionate about psychology. You have to go to class and there are a lot of group work. She is very welcoming of conversation and questions. Great professor. Study and it'll be an easy class
I the service learning section but tests and activities are online! You just have to come to class to do in-class activities but she's a great lecturer and makes all her material applicable to real life! She's also really understanding and nice including if you miss something (for a valid reason)! I definitely recommend taking her! Best PSYCH PROF!
She wasn't even supposed to be my professor but I'm glad she stepped in. She is so interested in what she is teaching and made my 3 hour class not too hard to handle.
Lotze is awesome. I think shes very passionate and she does care. However her exams were difficult. If you skip class often you miss random participation points. She doesnt put notes online and a lot of her test questions come from the book. She expects you to read the book before and take a quiz before class on what you will learn.
Dr. Lotze is really great. The way she lectures you can tell how passionate she is and knowledgable. She doesn't post her slides so make sure to take notes in class, but she goes slow enough for everyone to get the material. All the tests are online. I truly enjoyed this class and learned a lot.
Dr. Lotze is truly the most amazing professor at VCU. She is passionate about her subject which in turn makes it so much easier to follow along in class and absorb the information. She is accessible outside of class and goes above and beyond in helping solve any issues you may have. Tests are online so take good notes! Take her for psyc!!!
interesting class. def recommend taking dr. lotze. make sure to come to class because she gives out random in class assignments. there is weekly hw on launchpad and occasionally have to read an article and take a quiz. three tests and a final. make sure to study even though they are online. tests are not that easy.
great lectures, very nice and caring. always makes sure everyone is on track. make sure to go to class due to random activities for points.
Best professor I have ever had at VCU. Tests are online, but you have to take notes in order to do well. Come to every class because there are in class assignments and group work for points!
Overall, an amazing professor who clearly has a love for what she teaches! The way she lectures makes the concepts easier to understand. However, if you tend to skip class, you miss a lot of in-class assignments that can really boost your grade, so GO TO CLASS! 10/10 would definitely take her again, best psychology professor I've had thus far!
Dr. Lotze is a wonderful professor with a clear passion for what she teaches. Her course is interesting, thought-provoking, and very informative. It's great to take a course that teaches you so much about everyday life. I walked out with a solid understanding of the material, and she makes the class a lot of fun.
I would highly recommend anyone to take Dr. Lotze. Very engaging and interesting lectures that doesn't make you tired. Online exams are easy that are straight-out of the textbook and lectures. Overall easy class and the most interesting by far.
I think she is passionate but the lectures are kind of boring. Lots of homework (2-3 assignments a week). The online book was 95$ which i thought was crazy. Tests will be hard if you skip class - most of the questions are application questions. Do NOT take if you have other options!
Dr. Lotze is great! She is passionate about the subject which makes it a lot more interesting to learn about. Homework is easy and you can get it done in one sitting. Definitely recommend Dr. Lotze!
I took Dr. Lotze for SL and trust me, it is not hard at all especially if you need community service! She is amazing and definitely go to class otherwise you'll have to write a paper to make it up because there are some short in-class activities (some are in groups) that are graded. Tests are easy and online with launchpad due every week.
It seems like anyone can receive a Ph.D. these days, If you're taking her as your professor let me just tell you your going to be teaching your self most of the time. She gives out heavy quizzes and tests, passing them requires you read the book otherwise she gets lazy and just copies questions from quiz lit. first psych class I leave not learning.
I took her online. Worst professor Ive ever had in 5+ years of school. She clearly does not want to see her students succeed. Lots of busy work, quizzes, etc. She makes it so that its near impossible to get full points on any assignment. A psych class should not cause this much stress. Just dont take her.
I had Professor Lotze online this semester and honestly it was horrible. She is very stuck in her ways and cares more about how she wants to do things than student success. She closes the lectures and weekly material at the end of every week. Alongside that theres WAY too much busy work paired w multiple long lectures each week.
Lotze is a very sweet lady but this class with her online is a big no. As a psychology teacher, I'd expect her to understand the stress levels that are put onto her students but she doesn't care. Weird deadline times, late night office hours, a lot of busy work and quizzes and makes a lot of changes of the structure throughout the semester. BIG NO!
She's the most inconsiderate professor I have had thus far. This is a psych course, and you would think she wouldn't put us under so much stress with a pandemic and classes being online, but she has. She gives an unnecessary amount of work, and the material isn't even hard, but she makes it so difficult with the amount of work she gives. AVOID.
She's a nice lady, but expects so much. It honestly wasn't too bad, but just annoying that her stuff didn't open up until 9am on Tuesdays and then closed on Sundays at 5pm. She puts hidden lecture quizzes in the lectures to ensure you watch them and a lot of the time they can be tricky. Also, doesn't leave lectures up to watch in the future :)
Dr. Lotze is a very nice lady but the way this class has been designed has made it terribly boring and dull. The content could be interesting but all this class consists of is reading and watching lecture videos that are just her talking over a plain powerpoint slide. Assigns way too much busy work that doesn't help you learn anything.
Professor Lotze is so kind and patient and really cares about what she is teaching. She was also very accommodating to my disabilities. The one thing I do have to mention though is that she does give a large workload that I know some struggled with and she doesnt keep up any activities, lectures, or notes from previous weeks on blackboard/canvas.
This course is video lecture and textbook heavy. Each module, including access to the video lectures, closes each week. You won't be able to rewatch the videos after 5pm Sunday of that week. She can be very sarcastic in her email responses, and sets students up to fail. She wont even open the lectures to give students time to review before her test
Professor Lotze provides plenty of resources and opportunity to expand knowledge. Her online course is not as flexible as I'd like. She opens her exam for Sunday 5pm to Monday 9pm and I work full time. Heavy workload and unnecessarily long lectures and exams. The exams have confusing questions, even if you study it's near impossible to get an A.
All of the exams and quizzes include oddly specific questions that you would only know the answer to if you memorized the lectures, videos, and textbook by heart. She is not very understanding of how busy students are and on top of that she assigns a lot of work to do that in the end only bring your grade down, even if you do good on assignments.
Not the worst, nor best professor I've had at VCU. Her Canvas course was designed horribly, hard to find things sometimes. She deleted modules after the week the assignments for that module were due. That was annoying for test taking. Quizzes follow podcasts, TedTalks, & articles from journals and are VERY specific. Tests were standard for psych.
The class was very inflexible. The professor does not communicate well with us at all, and it is not a service learning class as listed. I, and many others, missed multiple assignments either because of her 5pm deadline, or because she hides her quizzes within her lectures and the links she provides we have to manually enter from her lectures.
Look they are really interested in their subject, but the class is not "user" friendly. Lotze opens assignments midday on Tuesdays and closes 5pm on Sundays, hidden assignments, and closes modules right after their due so there is no such thing as reviewing for the tests using the materials given. The class is doable, but I don't recommend.
My computer broke a week before final exams. Because of this, I was unable to take notes from her last lecture(she closes the lectures after each week). She refused to reopen the lecture temporarily so I could take notes for the final exam. I will never take a course from her again.
