nice pro. , but need more organize~
hilarious stories!!!
REALLY REALLY GOOD COURSE! Very interesting!
Dr. Voros is great at teaching women's studies. I was a little skeptical when i enrolled in the night course but she won me over. Sure she tells alot of stories, but she seems like a really nice lady. Great work!
The best prof I've ever had!! Dedicated, honest, challenging and fun!
I don't enjoy her class at all, I find it unclear and the notes are not concise. I would not be motivated to take another of of her courses
awesome very kind, straight up. easy to talk to. friendly. warm. funny stories. interesting facts. makes you want to become a better person. helped me out & supported me when i needed it. by far, my favorite course (CND TEENS) and prof of all time!
Wow what an amazing person. I hate night classes especially when they are three hours long however sitting through her lectures were easy. They were very interesting she added anecdotes to the lectures. I like her so much I signed up for another course
Good course...Could we do any more male bashing???Some good stories...wish your life was on the exam...would have done better. Not sure if I would take another class with you.
I remember a lot of male bashing.. so be prepared guys your not welcome. But she did kind of remind me of my mom! :) Test were average difficulty and course had no workload!
Great prof. She makes the material seem more applicable by telling stories that relate to the information. I've taken two of her classes and would definatly take more.
Her stories get annoying...and she uses the term "vis-a-vis" an average of 5 times a night. Nonetheless, a refreshing, EASY, elective to take, especially if you are in commerce and are constantly dealing with $ making courses...a different view
she is fantastic, yes it has some male bashing but its not that bad, she is working on it, her class is interesting but she is not an easy prof, its not a bird course at all, but interesting and yet an easy course, as long as you do the work, u are fine
It is an interesting course and it gives you a different perspective on our society for sure. However, if you are looking for a bird course, this is not it...this class really challenges you...100 true and false questions worth 50% of your mark.....mmmm not so good.....
Lectures were exetremely boring. Also, most of the lecture material was just common sense stuff. Good elective course. What does VIS-a-VIS mean?
almost motherly in the way she teaches our class. I loved every minute of it.
Excellent prof, great lectures, loved her class!!
The exams were very difficult but mostly fair, but she used words IN the exam questions that I'd never heard of..such as "hawkish" and "jockey", which was confusing. I loved the stories about her husband tho.
the toughest course out there, one of the hardest courses i have taken in my two years, the material may seem easy but trust me she will make sure u don't do well, and this is coming from a dean's honour roll student. instead of this take economics, music, psych. hard work not rewarded in this course
I really like her and her class.. SHe isn't boring and she reads us stories. Midterm was fair..just make sure you attend class...which you shoudl want to anyway because her lectures are great!
approachable prof, friendly and all, but do yourself a favor and dont take this course; 50% midterm, 50% exam = extremely stressful studying, even if she had an assignment or something worth 20% that would be great, but i'm for one am not too keen on having just 2 exams both worth so much...also the m/c are mainly very confusing. u've been warned.
She talks a little fast, but overall cares about her work and her students.
Geraldine is my most favoritest prof in the whole wide world. I lvoe her so much I am taking her other 2 courses next term wooohaaaa
VERY long lectures, but interesting. This prof really cares about her students and goes the extra mile to help. But be forewarned, she is also tough as nails. Exams were hard until I stopped looking for trick questions. If it looks like something she said in class, that's the answer she's looking for, not exact wording neccessarily.
What an excellent professor! She truly cares about her students and is more than happy to go that extra mile in order to ensure that we succeed. She is definitely a breath of fresh air. However...be warned...her exams are not easy. You'll be fooling yourself if you think you can skate through this course without doing any work.
She is a nice and helpful person, but her tests are tough!!!
She is the nicest lady, really cares about her students, and teaching. If you don't understand something, she is very easy to talk to. Her tests are slightly tough, but attend every lecture and read the material *several times*, then you can do fine. Her class averages are usually in the B range so it's not bad. I liked 2p03 much more than 2o03
She's verrry strict about plagiarism. She will fail you if she finds out even little bit cheating on your exam. She gives a huuge lecture about plagiarism on the first day of class and how much she hates cheaters. She says she doesn't like cheaters to succeed. Her finals take place in MDCL building where it's easy to copy. DONT DO IT with this prof
Why do you care so much about plagiarism ? This prof goes extra miles to detect cheaters. How sad
She is fun, she tells stories and some jokes. HEr material is pretty easy to get through as long as you read it and study....her tests aren't that easy if you haven't studied. You do need to attend her classes as she adds stuff in and changes some material...
rude, unfriendly, annoying voice. very unhelpful, not willing to accept that learning is more than memorizing things. tests require that you study. i hated going to this class because her voice is extremely irritating. thankfully where was a podcast so i could listen at home and mute her. i did well in the course, but not because of the teacher.
She's a bit nutty but is a very fair professor. Attend every class and take really good notes and you will do well. You can't skip her classes because all the info on the tests are from lecture. In this course I didn't need to do the readings and still did well on the exams. Other classes with her you need to do the readings.
Amazing prof...very sincere, takes teaching very seriously, and cares a lot about her students like a mom cares about her kids. Will go extra distance to help. Exams are slightly tough, but for the most part fair. Her finals are usually easier than the midterm. If you attended every class and worked hard, should be able to get B's no problem.
Excelllent professor..Sooo NICe..Take any class taught by her.
interesting lectures
she is what all profs should be...the most amazing woman who i have ever met...she has not jsut helped me academically...but also emotioanlly
Great prof! Loves what she's doing, and it makes all the difference in the lectures!
She is really nice and kind heart lady. Get to know her by going to her office hours. She treats all students like her own children and loves all students. Wish there were more profs like her. Her exams are really fair and if she notices it was too difficult she will adjust the grades to make sure everyone does well. One of the best profs I've seen
ONE OF THE BEST PROFS MET TILL NOW, HER EXAMS ARE REALLY FAIR, SHE IS KIND AND RESPECTFUL TOWARDS STUDENTS AND CARES ABOUT THEIR SUCCESS AND WELL BEING. WISH SHE WOULD TEACH A LOT MORE CLASSES. I HAVE TAKEN ALL 4 OF HER CLASSES NOW.
She is great. One of the best professor of McMaster. Her evaluation style is very good. Just one midterm worth 50% and one final worth 50% each has 100 Multiple choice and True-False questions, so no workload in her courses. Just attend class or get someone's notes, study your notes and you're set. It IS hard to get A's in her courses though!
She is a really nice professor and her course is easy to do well. Just attend class and keep up with the readings :)
One of the most fair profs in the University
Great prof. Clear lectures, very fair on exams. I highly recommend taking her classes.
her exams are really confusing
I have to admit she is a nice person but she gives difficult exams. Too many ambigious questions in the True false area. Questions on the Arrange marraige movie are sooooo hard. Really she needs to make it a bit easier. Nice prof, means well, has good intentions, but difficult. Not a bird course for sure. She always had to bell curve the midterms.
The last comment was very harsh. At the very least, Dr. Voros cares for her students. Her exams questions are ambiguous, and I agree her lectures can be very long and repetitive. But as a person, I look up to her. She's nice, pleasant, caring and extremely motivational. Please don't call her a ****. Thanks.
I'll tell how it is. She is very kind when you talk to her outside of class time. But her lectures are really boring. She basically has some notes in front of her, and she just reads and reads off them, has no interaction with the class, so it is very easy to fall asleep or day-dream. Is that called teaching? Then her exams are pretty hard too.
WORST PROF EVER.
Dr. Voros has a passion for what she teaches. I have taken all four of her classes and loved each one of them. She wants to see you succeed, and will anything to help you get there. Yes the exams are tough but if you go to lecture you will be fine!...I highly recommend all of her courses!!
You have to take very good notes in class to do well. I find that she is sometimes **** towards men and does not take into account scientific research into topics that she talks about. Rather biological research is made fun of in class which is very biased towards social science perspectives. Good class to take though, you learn a lot!
I'm not the type of person who would post bad comments for profs, but HONESTLY. HONEST OPINION: Her lectures are usless and boring. She is standing in front of the room reading off the paper, expecting you to make notes :( :( and her exams are BRUDAL. One True/False question almost half a page. The courses she teaches dont get you anywhere in life!
Professor Voros is really boring. She just reads and reads off the notes and her lectures will make you fall asleep. Reading notes off a paper for the most part is not called teaching. Even I CAN DO that. Her exams were VERY HARD for a 2nd year social science course. Just one midterm, one final, no other evaluation to help. Very tricky and confusin
Her courses have no workload, but she puts many extremely tricky questions on exams that will make your head hurt. Extremely long true/false, ambigious multiple choice. Even if you study very hard, it's very difficult to get A- or above in her courses. She really needs to take it easy on students. I agree, she would do a better job as a COUNSELLOR
Really bad class. Taking her courses is a waste of your $600/- fees for the course. You will walk out knowing nothing useful or relevant, and, it is very likely you will get a bad grade. You have to be a genius to get A's in her useless courses.
She thinks she is a great professor. Guess what? She's not. She might make a great advisor because she seems so kind when you talk to her outside of the classroom, but teaching wise, she is extremely boring and her exams are quiet unfair for a nonsense second year social science course.
Her exams are so long. At first you think you are reading a book but then you realize that you are just reading one question. She thinks by putting huge questions on exams that it makes the course look valuable. Well, your courses are NOT valuable, just useless garbage that no one will ever use in life.
The multiple choice are so hard :( They will make you sad. Easy course though!!!
awsome professor! very inspirational and her exams are a breeze if u've attended classes.
I get A's and A+'s in every single University course, but this professor gave me a B+.I think she has too many unfair questions on her exams. She needs to take it easy on students. Her courses are very boring and useless. Lectures NOTTTTTTTTTTTT INTERESTING
She is very inspirational. She stands in front of the lecture room and reads off the paper. wow. I wish I could do that. I find her very inspiring. I wish I was that smart. Just reading notes off the paper with no class interaction most of the time. Puts everyone to a nice sleep. Then her exams are ridiculously challenging. Mind hurting True/False.
She is SO EASY that it's a shame. Her 2Q03 course is the easiest thing on the planet.
If you are looking for a really bird course take Dr Voros class. Her tests for the summer class are very straightforward, absolutely no thinking required. This is like stealing a high grade from McMaster.
Want to know what course so easy that even a caveman could pass? Any course taught by Mrs Voros. Her midterm was so easy that I was finished in 30 min and stared at the walls after that. And my test mark was still over 85% after having studied only 1 day. Dr. Voros, please give a more challenging final. Dont devalue the McMaster University Degree.
very interesting course
talks and talks about the same topic over and over again. if she were to just get to the point, guess what? her three hour classes would become one hour!
Mrs Voros is so easy that it's a shame. Her courses are easier then College level courses. Her courses are clearly not fit for University level. She needs to raise her standards and start asking some short answer and essay type questions on the exams. Easiest prof of McMaster University. She is ruining mcmaster's reputation by being so easy.
I have taken all four courses taught by Professor Voros and I think she is by far the fairest professor at McMaster. Her tests are so easy that you must have well below average IQ to not get atleast a B in her courses.
How about u put some challenging questions on ur tests and make ur students think for a change. Most of her true-false questions have "True" as the answer. Even if you put True for the entire paper, you are pretty much guaranteed a C+ in her courses because almost 70% of her answers are "True" with roughly 30% False.
very bad prof. her exams are stupid and ambigious. but it is true, that anybody can get a decent grade from her.
loved her.. she is a really nice lady.. you can tell that she cares a lot about people and she uses her lectures to speak to girls specifically. she is very easy...
I was shocked when reading the rest of these ratings...the ignorant people on here should be ashamed of themselves! Geraldine is one of the most inspirational professors that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I feel lucky to have her teach me! All of her classes are very real and interesting, and her exams are nothing but fair! <3 xo
very very easy profffessur
She always goes off topic and spends over 20 minutes going over a single powerpoint slide. She makes jokes that are not funny at all and wastes our time. If she could only talk faster and to the point, we would not have to sit for the full 3 hour lecture. We all have busy lives, so please stop wasting our time on irrelevant things.
Professor G. Voros is a clear, concise, and very fair prof. And she tells great stories!
Course grade is not correllated to effort. There is a reason why the class average is 70 and standard dev is 2/100. Take the course if you want a credit - don't take it if you want an 80+.
this prof is amazing...you guys are going on and on about marks? she doesn't focus on grades because grades aren't life, she TEACHES you things that matter, when i'm 50 years old i won't remember what grade i got in her class, i'll remember what she said...and that is what matters.
Gerladine Voros is by far THE BEST PROFESSOR this university has to offer. All of her courses are interesting and she is extremely fair to her students. She is inspirational and if you attend class and take good notes you will succeed. She is also extremely understanding and great to talk to. I just wish every professor was like her, honestly!!!!!
I have taken two courses with this prof. I attended the first lecture of the first course, and she spent 3 hours talking about how the world's problems are all men's fault. I haven't gone to a class since. It's pretty easy to get a decent grade in her course. I think in Canadian Children I spent 2 hours including exam time to get the mark I did.
Too much male bashing, even though she says we shouldn't male bash. Crazy
Best prof in mcmaster
Super nice, very helpful prof. Her classes really make you think about the structure of society and your place in it. Her exams are scrupulously fair. I would take a class with her again.
Horrible Professor!!!! She teaches Canadian children and adolescence, courses make up of 2 exams worth 50% each. Not difficult course but a horrible professor.
Best Prof. I ever had! : )
went to the first half of the first class - left at the break. watched all 11 lectures on podcasts, much easier to take notes this way. her explanations are very good and she is an interesting prof. the course was a breath of fresh air for me from the dry commerce material. i'd definitely take mor soc sci courses in the future.
A-MAZING!!!! Super nice, great sense of humour, interesting lectures....grades fair, very helpful and just an all-around classy woman. If you get a chance to take her classes... you wont be disappointed!!
She is a nice one...kind lady good professor and fair exams. All around good experience.
Dr. Voros is amazing. She is a more mature prof but teaching with the enthusiasm as if it were her first day on the job!!!!! She is the most helpful prof I have ever encountered. More helpful than most younger profs I have met. As long as the student does their part - she will do hers in helping you succeed.
I never, ever went to class (it's all available online). However, I did schedule a time better suited for me to work in the lecture(s). I really ended up learning a lot from the lectures in the end. It was enjoyable and I am taking another one of her classes as an elective. Her multiple choice can be a little tricky, but it's worth it, I think.
Easy class to coast and get a decent grade simply by watching podcasts at home and doing absolutely no work for the class. Do not take any of her classes if you want to get an A or A+. I am straight A student at Mac. Trust me when I say her exams are unfair and this is coming from someone who went to class and listened to the podcasts.
She is a great prof.
Love this woman!!
Amazing. Very passionate about what she talks about.
I LOVED HER! the course content was ok but she is so passionate about it that you remeber a lot of the info from lectures! and she is also HALARIOUS! oh my goodness i felt like i was watching a stand up comedian some days! shes adorable and it is easy to do well in this class. She also gave a great exam review!
good prof...but doesnt make instructions to assignments very accessible, that being the only problem
Good content; no exam. Would benefit from more structure in her lectures and course content. Her assignments are marked VERY hard. Do not take this course if you think it is easy. She expects 4th level papers from 2nd level students. If this wasn't a mandatory class i would have dropped it.
Super nice prof. She responds to emails really quickly. Lectures are insanely boring and useless. Assignments are very unclear, vague and marked extremely hard (I'm normally an 85-90% student, getting 70%).
What an amazing woman! She truly cares for her students. She is very approachable and a real inspiration to her students. She encourages them and believes in them. She does mark VERY hard on writing assignments and her exams can be deadly! But you will still love her. Lectures are so interesting! Do your readings!
Geraldine is an inspiration. I think that this class is helpful for all Canadian members, teaching us a lot about our society and creating empathy and understanding for others. Geraldine makes it very enjoyable.
Dr. Voros is a phenomenal professor! I really enjoyed attending her lectures, she would make a 3-hour class fly by. Prior to taking this course, I had heard that her midterms are extremely difficult. However, I thought the midterms were simple and straightforward. She provides you will all the materials you need in order to succeed.
It was an absolute pleasure taking her class. I would love to take more courses with her in the future. As for the midterm and exam, what helped me was taking detailed notes, listening to the podcasts again and always making connections.
horrible professor. her kindness/helpfulness is deceiving. unrealistic expectations.
Amazing professor very passionate about teaching and so helpful if you need any clarification. Her exams can be very detail specific so studying hard is a must. Probably the best prof at Mcmaster :)
Do not take this course if you care about your grades. Voros is a passionate lecturer and nice woman, but I cannot adequately describe the degree to which these exams are unfair - she designs them to trick you. I knew the material inside and out but still struggled to make it out with a 9 (my average is a 10.8).
she is a great teacher, but her midterms/exams are such a pain in the ass to do. Take this course if you are just looking for a easy bird course but dont take it if you expect a high average out of it
Relatively easy class, overall effective teacher. However, although she seems very nice in person, can be rude and the definition of inflexible. Not a fan of her in Canadian Adolescents.
Professor Voros is an excellent professor that genuinely cares about her students. She would almost always stay after class to answer any questions pertaining to course content or assignments. She was also very passionate about the course material, which made classes very enjoyable.
Sweet, funny, caring professor who in first year seemed quite dull, but in second year was excellent.
HLTH AGE 1AA3 was supposed to be my easy elective, but it turned out to be the total opposite. Voros is rambler and the content of this course is quite dry to begin with, so her lectures are pointless. She is very sweet and willing to help, but not a great lecturer. You are better off skipping lecture and keeping up with your readings.
such a sweetheart, she even gives her home phone number in case you need to contact her
She is an absolute GEM. Best professor I have ever had.
Hardest tests that I have written at Mcmaster! You ll pass it 99% doing very little, but you wont get an A studying tons!
Absolutely amazing lady, when things got tough in other courses she gave extensions to the whole class to ease stress. She posted a great exam review, her final exam was very fair. Every lecture was interesting and while she didn't follow a slideshow she was intriguing and I felt comfortable going to her office hours.
Listen to the podcasts and you're golden!
Very funny teacher, however, the class was very boring. Almost unbearable. Easy grade and test was an easy A. The essays on the other hand were almost impossible to get a high 60 low 70.
Dr. Voros is one of the most caring professors i have ever had the pleasure of learning from. She is all about facilitating her students, not hindering them. She takes the opinions of her students into consideration, is fair to everyone, and is very reassuring in times of stress. She has made my learning experience stress-free, and very enjoyable.
good prof
She is a very kind woman who clearly cares about her students. Her lectures can be a bit emotionally heavy depending on the course.
Geraldine Voros is just amazing. Here you have a person that is beyond busy but some how still finds time to really connect with her students. She treats her students the way she would want her own children treated. Geraldine Voros teaches, guides, and inspires. Geraldine Voros is one of a kind.
Doctor Voros is definitely one of my favourite profs. Not only is she exceptionally caring for all her students, she knows how to run a course in an effective way but also a not very stressful way. She keeps you engaged in lecture even when you don't want to be, and her personality is one of a kind. Would definitely take her class again.
She is even more caring than my mom. Inspiring and respected.
Geraldine is one of a kind. Really wonderful.
Very kind, understanding and captures the attention of the class.
She is so sweet, I recommend anyone take this course not only because HLTHAGE 1AA3 is easy but also because Geraldine is an absolute sweetheart. She makes you feel like you are one of her children, such a wonderful person.
I loved this prof! One of the best to have in your first year. Very kind and really cares about her students.
Seems to only be interested in bashing trump and praising CNN. Course material is dry and her delivery is horrid. Attempts to make funny jokes which only 1/4 of the class finds funny. Assignment is boring and topics appear to be unbiased even though voros is the most bias professor you'll have.
Most boring lecturer I've ever had. She seems like a good person but doesn't do a great job at delivering course material & doesn't know how to engage students. As a result many people skipped class & those who did show up seemed half asleep the whole time. Don't take her class unless you have to & are good at teaching yourself!
I took SOCSCI2CC3 online and it was a breeze. There's a lot of reading and papers to write but it's enjoyable and can be done at your own pace. Geraldine's lectures can be a little boring but generally good. She responds to emails quickly and kindly. If you follow clearly defined grading criteria in syllabus, you should do well on papers!
Her voice is dull, but the content she teaches is interesting. Since it is an online course, her videos are just videos (not in online course module format) so be prepared to turn on the captions and pause A LOT to capture what she is saying so that you can write out your notes.
Dr. Voros effectively communicates with her students regarding important information. I found the quizzes especially difficult - you need word for word notes on the modules to do well. There is a lot of work for this course i.e. many small assignments that aren't worth much but take a long time to complete.
The course is relatively easy, but the problem is the prof. She believes no one deserves a +90 on any assignment, and no matter how hard you try, it is implausible that you can get an A+. Not a good option for a bird course.
Dr. Voros is an excellent Prof who is dedicated to seeing her students succeed. She is open and receptive to feedback, knowledgeable and driven. This is a Prof who truly cares about her students well being, engages students in lecture and provides engaging courseware relevant to the class.
Geraldine will mom you throughout the course. Was very accommodating and taught the content really well. There are a few papers and a presentation so be ready for that.
I recently came across feedback that Geraldine wrote based on my reflection paper. She wrote a PAGE of very encouraging words, and I really appreciate her kindness. She is extremely devoted to being there for students, and takes the time to know them to know them on a personal level. I think she is a counsellor in a professor's role.
I would not willingly take a course by her again. She reads from her Microsoft document or slide she has on-screen and then goes on a lot of narrative talks. Her guidelines are not clear, lots of confusion among students. Can't get over a 90. Super unengaging. Not flexible. Material is not too difficult. Just wish it was taught by another prof.
i believe that most people here who are complaining literally just never did the work or just have poor studying habits. Prof. V will literally give you an outline on whats on the test/exam. She is a bit of a slow speaker, but you can tell she seems to care about the success of her class. Classes are not hard at all.
Great woman, very respectable. Dedicated to the success of students. Very knowledgable, kind spirit and easy to speak to regarding lecture/assignments and exams.
Dr. Voros is willing to go the extra mile. Throughout the course, she took the time to ask me individually about my experience at my placement. She is understanding; She listened to the setbacks that I had and made accommodations. She is accessible as she replied to emails very quickly. I learned a lot from her life experience this semester.
In terms of communicating efficiently through email: amazing prof. However, her lectures are full of confirmation bias and consist of no citation although she insists that "researchers" say these things. I personally agreed with her on many things, but I still didn't appreciate the lack of appreciation of scientific method.
if you want a rubric do not take this class. if you want to take a class where a prof does their job, dont take it. I had to take it by choice. she is extremely vague with what she wants and tells everyone something different. her content, teaching methods, and ideologies are all extremely dated.
literally continuing my last review. genuinely convinced she teaches this dumbs course because she doesn't wanna retire but cant handle a real class. she also says stuff in class thats literally rude and offensive. she also marks hard for no reason considering theres literally no rubric lol. she makes me hate Mac and my program as a whole.
This course was okay. I found some of the information on families about outdated and focused on an old fashion outlook. The papers, discussion posts, and some quizzes were easy. There was also extra credit quizzes. However, some tests and the exam was a bit more challenging since she takes word for word from lectures/text.
Geraldine has been my favourite professor I have ever had. I took Canadian Children as an elective and I am so glad I did and had the pleasure of meeting and being inspired by this amazing woman! Definitely recommend taking a course taught by her, she speaks with true passion and cares for the students.
Not very caring; was not understanding when my sister died.
BY FAR THE WORST PROF I'VE EVER HAD. SHE HAS THE WORST DEMEANOR ANYONE COULD EVER IMAGINE. THE FIRST TIME I MEET HER WAS DURING A ONLINE MEETING ABOUT MY QUIZ, NOT ONLY WAS SHE EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL BUT WAS ALSO NOT PREPARED. NOT SURE WHY SHE WONT JUST RETIRE, SEEMS LIKE SHE HATES HER JOB AND TEACHING IN GENERAL.
Dr. Voros is an incredibly kind prof, she interacts with her students very respectfully (which is more than I can say about other professors). The only downside to the course was the TAs being wayyy too strict with marking, and there being several papers that were very time consuming for what they're worth. But Dr. Voros herself is a gem :)
I had a great semester with Dr. Voros! The topics covered are intriguing and marking schemes are fair. The TA's are great as well, they provide useful feedback - take this feedback and use it. The tests are lecture heavy, you will not do well but simply having jot notes. Final exam was on the harder side, even though it was open-book!
I had a course with Geraldine a few years ago. She is kind, compassionate and incredibly wise.
She is the kindest prof you'll ever meet. Absolutely love her. I learned a great deal from taking her placement course, not just about myself, but the field as well.
