Awesome teacher! Very effective....His excitement makes it fun to go to class!
Wonderful teaching. He draws parallels between music, politics, and social history. He makes it clear to dumb college kids that rock and rap have roots that need to be appreciated.
Awesome professor. Made class interesting!!
He teaches pop music and intro to music
very entertaining to listen to!
Great Teacher
Great professor, interesting, and easy class
Good Prof.
Fun to have teach us. Very dramatic and entertaining. Very knowledgeable about the course.
He was so entertaining

Easy as easy can be but worthless class overall
Energetic, enthusiastic professor. Great class!
Absolutely brilliant. Most energetic person I've ever seen. Made the class very entertaining. Great man in general.
Great Class, I'm very impressed. It's interesting, not too hard, but very informational, exciting, and energetic. This is the way learning should be. Aloisio is brilliant and funny.
This guy is the man!!! He is awsome, he keeps you entertained through the whole class! He's always one the go! Take the class it's a lot of fun. The lectures get long but hey that's what college is all about!
good class for any major
Very energetic about music. Test are really easy especially if you go to class everyday. The only thing that kinda sucks is going to the concerts but if you go to so many you get extra credit and it is worth it.
This guy was probably the best teacher I have had, eventhough it was a general class, he still made it fun and I learned a lot of interesting stuff, but you have to go to class in order to understand it.
very fun class, really cool teacher
Great class, lots of fun
With a class early in the morning he was always able to add a few jokes in with his lecture to keep people awake.
Extremely passionate and great guy. Excellent teacher. Has taught the same classes for years and is still as lively as ever. Very entertaining to watch him prance around.
exams are hard. i wouldn't take this class unless it is required for your major. i'd take music 126 over 125--- hard class... boring
I think he's a very entertaining guy. He's always in a good mood. You get to listen to a lot of music. You are required to go to some concerts and have an option of extra credit. I think the tests are hard. You have to really read the chapters in order to get a good grade in the class.
He is an awesome teacher with an awesome personality! He loves what he does and it makes your classroom experience so much better. His tests are not hard as long as you go to class and do the reading. Even just going to class and not reading would get you a passing grade. He's awesome!
Best prof at MSU and quite possibly anywhere else. Tests are extremely easy if you go to class, which is actually very entertaining.
Through classes and work, I met lots of MSU professors in my 4.5 years. Gerard is without a doubt the nicest and one of the best. He's a treasure.
Very Interesting

The most entertaining teacher. Best impressions if you take him you'll know what I mean.
He is a great prof. He makes his lectures entertaining and is really fun to immitate! This class will definitly be an easy A.
By far one of my favorite professors in my 3 years here. He's always very enthusiastic...kinda goofy sometimes, but he is entertaining to say the least. It is easy to ace the tests in 10 minutes or less by just going to class and glancing at the reading.
Very enthusiastic, keeps class interested with energy. I like how he walks around the auditorium instead of just standing in front of the class; it shows he wants to keep the class involved. His tests are very easy if you just go to class.
dont take this class at night unless you are really motivated to go. The class is very interesting if you can make there. Tests are easy, once again if you go to class.
You can tell music is his passion. His class isn't hard...i didn't even buy the book and I got a B. Lectures go by fast, and they are interesting...he's fun to watch and listen to, and has a LOT of energy. Take notes, you'll pass. He doesn't try to make it hard.
I needed to take a test early due to an already purchased plane ticket - he wouldn't budge. It got to the point that he requested my MOTHER'S CREDIT CARD STATEMENT to verify when my ticket to fly home was purchased. I had to drop the class because he wouldn't allow me to take the test EARLY.

The class was fine, nothing hard really. He is funny at times, but can really annoy the crap out of me. He does repeat himself too much! If he would be able to spit out a sentence and not repeat himself we would definitely get done with the class in a 50 minute period. He does have some fun videos.
Fun Class--Hard to take 3 hour night class--dark and after dinner--get sleepy
Very fun class!

hate this guy. i had to go to my brother's wedding in south carolina, i was going to miss a test and he made show him a copy of the wedding program to prove that i was in the wedding. not in favor of this guy
Awesome professor! Highley recommend taking MUS 126! He is quite repedative, but keeps class interesting. Easy tests. Don't need to buy the book as long as you go to class and pay attention...I didn't open the book once!
I heard good things BEFORE I took this class, and he did not let me down! Easy tests but I recommend reading the book, unlike the previous person because more questions than you think come from it. Last test is a killer/catch. STUDY the book for it. Names are important! Fun/stress free class. Take it!
I can't remember the name of the class but I got an A. His teaching ability is phenomenal. He is a great guy with a ton of energy. Fantastic class i would suggest it to anyone interested in the class. I know i wasn't going in!
EXCELLENT! One of the funnest classes I've ever had, and it was very informative and easy. Thanks Dr. A!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is so interetsed in what he's teaching that he makes the class fun and entertaining! Highly suggest taking future courses w/ him!
VERY COOL AND VERY INTERESTING!! AWESOME TEACHER!!I recomened him to everyone!!
awesome class, strange prof!!! HOWEVER!!! VERY INTO HIS SUBJECT!!! he love music and teaching about music, and that is why i took the class, even if some of the info i never use, it was still worth the monday night class! TAKE HIM, YOULL ENJOY HIS HUMOROUS TEACHING STYLE (AKA: HIS STANCES, WALKING AROUND, AND DANCING IN CLASS).
I went to his class and I wasn't even enrolled! He is that neat of a teacher!!! Only class I attended on a regular basis during my years at MSU. I even took a test once and he posted my grade, I did well. I have no clue how he posted my grade though if I weasn't enrolled??? Everybody should take his class.
awesome teacher. really outgoing and all over the place. you never know what he might do next. with the huge class he was able to keep my attention and make me laugh. the topics were really interesting and the tests aren't bad at all. good class to take. fun.
probably the best teacher i've ever had. very involving, always moving around, great sense of humor. awesome guy.
Great teacher, fun class, would recommend to anyone for a good general credit.

I wanted to punch myself in the face everytime I attented this class. Do NOT take it as a night class. It is long, boring, and his voice will make you cringe. If you study and read the book and go to concerts - you'll get an A or B - if not -Do not take th
Best teacher ever. If anyone says they didnt like his class, they either a. dont like music, or b. are just boring nerds who would be more interested in a chemistry lecture. I would totally recommend this class if you have any sort of interest in music, I learned a lot and had fun doin it!
i wanted to kill myself everytime he tallked. his jokes are not funny and i literally rather be punched in the face 100 times than take that class again.
Gerald is to teaching as David Bowie is to glamour rock! This was the greatest class i ever attended, i might take another one from him because i liked him so much. GERALD ROCKS!!

I think he's a resonable guy. enough said.
This guy is crazy and fun, however, he can be strict. I scheduled a spring break trip in which I would be missing one class (found out later it was a test) and HE WOULD NOT budge. I actually had to drop the class so I didn't get an F! After putting all that money into a trip, he actually expected me to cancel it. I was gonna go to Price is Right!
great teacher all around
If you have to sit and listen to a guy talk for three hours, THIS IS THE MAN YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO
I was not a fan of the material at all. The only thing that kept me coming to the class was him. He made the lectures intersting with his energy and enthusiasm. I would recommend this class to general ed's.

Gerald is the ********. Probable the best teacher here at mankato. His flamboyant actions leave you wanting more everyday after you leave.
This is a fun class. Dr. Aloisio is a very animated professor who loves what he's doing. The tests are pretty easy and you get credit by going to great concerts. I highly recommend taking a class with him.
Funny, good teacher.
Great, funny teacher. It's impossible to fall asleep in his class. Such strange and unexpected gestures. Watching him alone is enough to c make you want to come to class. He's obviously a great guy, and he knows what he's talking about. Great musician too!
Easiest college level class I have ever taken. Very interesting style & teaching method. Even if you hate any kind of music, somehow you'll listen ti his lecture. Most test questions are from class notes so attendence is a must! Very helpful & extra credits can easily be achieved.
He is one of the greatest profs I have ever had! He makes class interesting!
Aloisio is very energetic and he puts a lot of time into his work. He answers questions and does a lot for his students when they need help. He is one of the best profs I've had that could really present the material so that students could understand it. He is also cooky at times.
Definatly a cool teacher. He is very energetic and loves what he does. You don't find to many teachers that love what they teach like aloisio does.

Sorta hard class, if you read and go to lectures you should do ok. He is a very cool teacher, and I learned alot I never thought I would. Definately recommend this course.
saturday morning 3 hour class is bad enough, but he lets us out an hour early. He performs little dances and runs up and down the stairs at times. Knows his stuff and loves his work. First test is easy, the rest are hard, i read the book over a few times and still did bad, i dont know what he wants. but he is an excellent quality music professor.
Excellent professor, very interesting style!
Aloisio is a funny guy and a great prof. His classes are easy and tests are too. He likes to sing and dance around the auditorium. His students get to listen to great music and see some cool video clips. I highly recommend all his classes.
Exams are harder than what he makes it sound. His "PERFECT" text is just a bunch of pointless names and song titles. Good luck trying to memorize this crap for the exams. He is VERY cocky and annoying. Required music concerts are painful and take an hour to hand in your card as you leave the building.R&B/MTV... more like stoners/hippies/Michael J.
this man is crazy. he thinks his class is very easy but the tests are not and i even studied for them! i ended up with an 89% and he put on his website don't contact me about being borderline...well i had this as a saturday class and i didn't skip once and i think he should have taken that into consideration but nope. very frustrating man.
Amazing professor. The best I have had in the past 4 years. It requires work but is totally worth it.
Very entertaining
Great lecturer.
easy class, easy tests if you show up for class
Aloisio, what a funny guy. He is so good at lecturing, he makes me laugh. I would suggest taking this in the daytime vs a night class. I think you might be able to get more out of it. Night classes get hard to sit through, and his lectures are something you want to listen to. His tests are fair, not easy or hard. Make sure & read the text!
he sweats a lot during the warm months because he runs up and down the stairs. you want to hate him when the tests are hard but its impossible because he is so funny. the worst part would definitely have to be the unbelieving boring movies made in the 60's.
This guy rocks! he may seem a little off, but thats whats great about him. He makes even the most boring of subjects seem cool and interesting.
He is probably the best teacher you'll ever have. He loves his job and it shows in his teaching. He's wonderful at what he does.
Aloisio was a very good teacher. His lectures were interesting most of the time. The tests are a bit tricky, so read the text. If you miss a day, make sure to get the notes from a friend. Chances are something from those notes will be on the test. The final is not cumulative, which was also awesome.
Awesome teacher, very enthusiastic. Knows the material well, and is excited to pass it on. Attendance is not taken, but exam questions are mostly from lecture. Preferred studying from Wikipedia instead of the book, just searched the topics from class notes. Highly suggested.
DO NOT TAKE AS A NIGHT CLASS. BORINGGGGGGGGGGG
This class is soooo easy. For the people that don't get an A in this class, it makes me realize why people think MSU students are stupid. Read the text and go to class. It is that simple.
Easy A. Show up, takes notes, read the book the day before a text and you will be fine. Watching "Dr. A" run around the class, yelling and dancing keeps it interesting. Take this class
Awesome professor. Show up, take some notes, read the short chapters before the test, make sure you get the "Super-Bonus Extra Credit" for going to concerts and there's really no way to not get an A
This is a pretty easy class as long as you attend and get the notes. I took it as a night class and we'd spend the 1st hour in lecture and the next hour watching videos. He never kept us the whole time.
Meh, this class wasn't the greatest. I just wish the tests were a little more focused on important things about the music... you would get 6 or 7 questions easy, but run into something that is meaningless and not have a clue. Then another 6 or 7 then same thing. Easy B or A.
He's a great character
Aloisio is pretty good. He makes lectures easy to understand. Can get extra credit by going to extra concerts. As long as you go to class and have way study you will be just fine.
Aloisio is pretty good. He makes lectures easy to understand. Can get extra credit by going to extra concerts. As long as you go to class and have way study you will be just fine.
This was a great class. He is entertaining and makes class fun. If you go to class and skim the text you will do just fine in this class. Highly recommend this class
Dr. A is a great professor, if you are not open to different kinds of music, don't take the class. Classes are easy enough, he is 'subtle' in what you should know. Buy the book if you want, you don't always need it. Great prof.
Class is sometimes boring due to subject matter, but Aloisio makes it the most fun possible. He also loves music and loves teaching music, just watch his expression and hand movment. Tests were harder then I thought they would be, but that is probably based on my attendence and study skills. I would take it second semester MTV instead of pop mus
Good teacher, dont get into the habit of skipping, because your test results will show. makes the subject very interesting, even if your not into it. great class for your generals. 420 Friendly!
he is a good guy teacher, tests are harder than expected, but he is awesome to watch during class
great teacher, very enthusiastic about music. tests are based on lectures. skim over the material in a book and you should do well on tests, they are pretty easy! offers extra credit. Interesting guy, Interesting class!
Easiest A i've ever gotten. Go to class, take a few notes, skim the chapters (especially the people) and you'll be fine.
Great professor. Excellent Speaker, very entertaining. A little bit goofy. Extra credit (7% added to your grade) for going to 4 concerts
This class was extremely boring. I couldn't drag myself to class every nite, no matter how hard I tried.
Great Class, but you have to show up, tests are easy, need to attend concerts.
great teacher, very enthusiastic about music, go to class because a lot of the test consists of what he lectures about, skim through the book and go to the concerts and you'll get an A for sure!!! ps...HE IS SO CUTE!
Great guy. fun to listen to and entertaining. class is easy, make sure to read the book because a few questions won't be covered in class. Go to the concerts, they are easy points
Aloisio is a great professor. Im pretty sure this guy is a pot-head though! Anyways, very enthusiatic and really knows his stuff!
Amazing man
Aloisio is the man. The only night class that I could actually handle staying until the end. Take his class if you get the chance.

Awsome professor. Go to class, take nots and skim the chapters before the tests. you can receive something like 7 extra percentage points(damn near an entire letter grade) so if you have half a brain it is an easy 'A'!
Great professor. Very knowledgable. Unfortunately, prone to including his views on historical events (i.e Kent State) when not in any way necessary.
This guy is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. I have become way more interested in music since I took his class. I'm just never bored there he just cracks me up and he's EXTREMELY passionate about what he does. Go to class, take notes, skim the book and go to the concerts and you will get an A. So easy.
AMAZING CLASS!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! There's no attendance but you have to attend class otherwise you'll miss the notes. You have attend concerts during the semester which is fun. He'll make you love and apreciate music. TAKE HIS CLASS! SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!!
Great Teacher! Makes class alot of fun. if you read the book and take notes everyday this class is a breeze and also fun. I definately recommend this him as a professor.
Good class, very fun. Makes you like more kinds of music and its fun to learn about
Best prof at MSU! LOVE the sweater vests, love the dancing, the man!
This teacher is a very nice person & really cares about his students but if you aren't interested in this subject don't take it. It's very long, very boring & i would suggest another general. He does make it interesting by singing randomly, fun hand gestures, cool sweater vests, & jokes. good professor, but don't recommend the class as much.
Dr. Aloisio ROCKS!
Great guy. Large class sizes aren't really for me, though.
He was one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. I am going to take as many classes taught by him because of how great he was. If you just show up to class you wont really need the book and its pretty easy to get an A just show up and go to the three required concerts and BAM instant good grade.
Aloisio is amazing! Every class is interesting...not just because of the excitement he shows when presenting his material...but also because of his eccentric style, gestures, and the "Bill Cosby Sweaters". He wore a light up Christmas hat to our final :)
Awesome teacher. I can definitely tell he likes what he does which is unfortunately more than I can say for the other teachers on campus.
Dr. Aloisio knows sooo much about what he's teaching and is a very engaging teacher! Best class I have ever enrolled in I recommend all his courses!
If you have the slightest interest in any kind of music, please take this class. It is an easy A if you go to class and make it to the concerts. Dr. A will rock your world!!!
A very engaging and funny professor passionate about music. Easy A for most, but struggled myself because I had no interest in the course.
Aloisio was so much fun and his class was both interesting and easy! I recommend taking this class!
AMAZING PROF. His class was one of the best classes i've had. Not boring at all. You'll listen to his lecture even if ur not interested. He makes his course special somehow. TAKE IT! even if it's not ur major. You will know what i'm talking about when you take him... you won't regret it! :)
Very fun class! Easy A if you attend every class and take good notes!
He makes you want to come to class. Absolutely wonderful! Easy, easy, easy. Especially because he offers extra credit. Its almost impossible not to get an A. Anything below a B would be ridiculous. Take his classes!
Very fun and interesting professor! If you come to class and take good notes you will do fine! His tests are easy and he gives extra credit which is nice! :)
I sometimes get distracted in his class cause I'm too busy watching him dance. He really has a passion for music and it shows. Tests are simple, go to class read the textbook and you'll be fine. The concerts are sort of a fun too. My only complaint is the large class size, and the uncomfortable seats.
He is super funny and he is always dancing around. The videos he shows in class a really interesting and good. His tests are simple as long as you go to class and read the book. Plus the homework is going to concerts!!! :)
Great Prof. Very Easy. Go to class and the concerts and get an A for sure. Two extra concerts gets you a full letter grade.
LOVE this professor! He is always energetic and really knows his stuff. I always looked forward to going to this class! Definitely take Music 126, you won't be disappointed!
This class is so BORING. He is very energetic though. His tests are so dumb. he pays attention to the smallest and most meaningless details. I ended up getting a B in that class cuz I never wanted to go.
Dr. Aloisio is hysterical. He's very energetic and animated and makes his classes very interesting. He explains well, is very clear what will appear on tests, and will make you laugh. Take Pop Music, it's a lot of fun.
SO MUCH FUN!!! Dr. Aloisio has so much energy and loves what he does for a living. Get to listen to a wide range of music. Easy class - highly recommend Pop Music USA!!
SO MUCH FUN!!! Dr. Aloisio has so much energy and loves what he does for a living. Get to listen to a wide range of music. Easy class - highly recommend Pop Music USA!!
LOVED this class! He is passionate about it and he has great energy. He tells you how/what to study for tests. Read the textbook! I found the history of music to be extremely interesting. Listen/watch music clips in class. Night class usually gets done 8-8:30pm. Recommend him for sure! Easy gen. ed.
Loved his pop U.S.A. class, very easy especially if you go to class and skim the readings! Very passionate about his work! Take this class if in another music group because he'll give you credit for it!!
This class is a piece of cake if you actually go, take notes, listen, and at least skim the readings. All you have are four tests. You do have to attend outside concerts to get a good grade but I highly recommend this class, you will enjoy his lectures. Fun guy with Great Spirit!
This class was very interesting and easy! Dr. Aloisio is very energetic and passionate about teaching. To pass the class, take good notes and read the textbook (which only costs about $15). Students are required to attend 3 concerts (5 if you want extra credit)! You don't have to buy a ticket to get concert credit if you are already in an ensemble!
His class was very interesting but in regards to his tests, it was difficult.
Great class and great professor. It's really easy as long as you go to class and pay attention. 3 concerts are required, you can go to 5 for extra credit. Dr. Aloisio makes the class a lot of fun and really entertaining. Tests are easy if you take notes and skim the book.
Aloisio is a great teacher. He is very full of energy and teaches a very interesting class. Its quite easy to get a good grade in this class. He basically lets you buy a better grade by attending more concerts.
He keeps class interesting, but his tests aren't the easiest. I went to class every day, took good notes, and read the book and I struggled with the tests. He is VERY detailed on the tests, and it is a must to know all of the people he talks about and what they are famous for.
Such an easy class! I took both sections of pop music because it was very interesting and I learned a lot. Aloisio is a very understanding and fun guy. He try's to keep you entertained during class. Tests are easy, go to class and skim the text book.
Love his classes. If you can't handle old music though don't take his classes, just because you think his music is bad doesn't mean everyone does.
He doesn't take attendance, but in order to do well on the tests you have to go to class & read the sections.
It's imperative to attend class otherwise you will miss a lot for the exams. Take good notes and read the textbook. Pay special attention to the names of people as they are on exams. I found his exams to be difficult and I did the reading and didn't miss class. Ended up with a B.
You can tell he really enjoys his job and he makes the class fun. He is incredibly strange but it will give you a good laugh. The class is pretty easy if you somewhat pay attention and study a little
Professor is very good at making class entertaining with his engaging personality as well as the constant moving of his hips. Not to mention that he has a different sweater on everyday.
Dr. Aloisio is a very interesting guy but really has a love for his music. He makes the class fun and his expressions help make the class more interesting. Make sure to attend all the concert dates and the 2 extra to bump up a whole letter grade. Take good notes and read the book. Great class!
This class was very easy! I found the class to be very interesting, where others dreaded going. The tests aren't that bad, as long as you attend every class, take notes, and study your notes, you should be able to get at least a B on your test. He gives opportunities for extra credit as well, that's how I recieved an A in his class.
Dr. Aloisio is definitely animated, he loves what he does and you can tell! He is kind of strange and has a silly sense of humor but it totally works for him. He keeps you engaged and shows you all sorts of stuff you've probably never thought of music wise. He was awesome, recommend him for sure!
Very fun class! Aloisio makes class very interesting, he is funny, entertaining and always says "I want to give you all A's" One of the best teachers ever!
So far he is the best professor i have had here at MSU. Very insightful and clear, not to mention interesting. The topics discussed can be a little dry at times but he definitely helps spice it up and make things interesting. Even if you have no interest in old pop music you should take this course just because it is worth it.
Great professor. He always spices up the lectures with stories about the historical people he talks about. The only homework is attending 3 concerts during the semester, and if you want to boost your grade up a little you can attend two extra concerts and that boosts your grade up a whole letter grade! Overall, I would highly recommend him.
Fun general to take, more on history but overall intresting.
Very nice and energetic guy, you can tell that he loves what he does. He makes it easy to get a good grade if you go to two extra concerts for the semester and raises your grade 10%. If you go to class and/or read the chapters before the tests, you should have no problem getting an A in the class.
Has to be one of the best professors here at MSU. Makes the subject really interesting and his tests are pretty easy if you study. You are required to attend 3 concerts over the semester which isn't a big deal if you get them over with. Overall it's a great class and he is a great teacher! Best general i've taken.
GO TO CLASS. He doesn't post notes online and it's helpful to your test scores. Tests are pretty easy but have a lot of random questions. Keeps things interesting. 3 required concerts to attend, extra credit after that. Pretty relaxed, pretty easy. Don't need the textbook if you take good notes.
The biggest thing in this class is to actually go to class and take notes. Study your notes and textbook and you'll get an A no problem. He's kinda weird but a good teacher.
This class is super easy. He gives you 10 points of extra credit (a whole letter grade) if you just attend 2 concerts. Super funny because he dances in class and you can just tell he loves his job and loves music. BUT DO NOT MISS A DEADLINE OR IT WILL EFF UP YOUR GRADE.
Nice guy show up and you will do alright.
Meeting the deadlines for the concerts are important and always make sure to ask in the beginning where they are going to scan your mav card. Otherwise he is pretty fun, you can tell he is passionate about music. It's pretty funny when he dances in the middle of class.
Aloisio is a very a good speaker. I had no interest in Early American music, but I still found him interesting. You have to go to at least 3 concerts outside of class and 2 more for extra credit to up your grade by a letter. 4 tests. You should attend class, but if you do all the readings you'll do fine and vice-versa. Take it for an easy class
He's a great teacher who is funny and is passionate about what he's teaching. He actually cares if his students are learning or not. The only bad thing is I took pop music as a night class and its wayyyy to long. For his lectures it's just listening to him, slides don't say much at all.
Aloisio is the man. I have never seen someone so passionate about what they do. He is a very dorky man who you cant help but laugh with. Lectures are extremely long.
He is so lively and passionate. He's a great guy. very long lectures though
I love him. His personality almost makes going to class worth it
great teacher! i thought his class was very easy, only four tests, and if you do bad on a test, he allows you to attend two additional concerts to raise your overall grade by 10%. buy the book! its $15 at the school store, and if you glance at the information and your notes before the tests, you WILL get an A
I love this class. Aloisio is great, he's very passionate about what he teaches. If you don't show up and take notes, you will struggle, but if you do and you read the text, you will do fine. Definitely a class I'd recommend,
Best professor I've ever had. He really enjoys what he does and that makes it easy to listen however lectures are really long. Take good notes in class you won't have to do much outside of his class. There are really easy extra credit opportunities that make the class very easy to do well in. Definitely take his class if you're interested.
Very very good professor, I would definitely recommend. Very interested in what he is teaching. You do need to read the textbook in order to get all the information. If you attend 5 school concerts you get 10 percent added to your grade which is a HUGE benefit. Need to pay attention in class to understand material, Pretty easy class if you listen.
Great professor, but overall the class is garbage-trash. Enjoy being forced to sit through piano concerts on your own dime; if you don't attend 3 paid concerts he deducts points from your exam scores (a lot of points, too.) I said screw it and took an F; I can't stand forced music events
Sassy and takes forever to email back, if he even does.
He's a real eccentric guy that loves what he's teaching. He makes the lectures a little bit more entertaining but they still are terribly long.
Sassy and very passionate about the material he presents in class. Although the lectures are long, he makes them very interesting. You listen to a lot of different music and watch videos. The only downside is paying for the concerts which are your homework and extra credit. You don't have to read the book, but some test questions are on it.
Aloisio is a very great man. He Is extremely helpful. His lectures are very long but he tries not to make them boring. His grading criteria is clear but you're obliged to attend paid concerts as part of your grade. You Will need a textbook.
Tests are tough but he always throws out multiple hard questions so you will be fine as long as you somewhat study the material. Going to concerts makes for easy points, and if you go to 5 instead of just 3 you get a whole letter grade bump. Material isn't all that interesting but the teacher is. Lots of videos to supplement lecture.
For a music class, this is a lot harder than I thought it'd be. The tests are super difficult, asks the most obscure questions. Miss one day of lecture and you'll probably be screwed. Does give a full letter grade bump if you go to 5 music concerts
Pop Music is an easy A class! Super interesting too. He is always in a good mood!
Dr. Aliosio is definitely passionate about what he teaches. I think that makes the class significantly more interesting. The lectures are long but very interesting. The only work is the four tests and attending three concerts throughout the semester. Pretty easy A if you come to class and read the assigned chapters, which are usually pretty short.
Have to attend 3 concerts throughout the year that you have to pay for. You can go to two extra & each additional raises your grade by 5%. He has four, 50 question multiple choice tests worth 100 points each. The tests are kind of difficult but not too bad. Have to go to class to get the notes. Book is cheap and reading it is helpful for tests.
Best professor I have ever had, and that is saying a lot! His class is very hard to fail,he makes you develop an interesting in his subject, and actually cares about his students.
I took the 3 hour long class and still loved it! You do need the book because he takes questions from the book and uses them for the test but the book is only $26-ish BRAND NEW! He was an amazing teacher and you could tell he loved what he lecturing about which made it that much more enjoyable. 10/10 would recommend to ANYONE.
I would suggest taking the class in the spring first off, much more relevant material to our generation! Aloisio was a very memorable professor who is passionate about what he does and made it so much fun to go to class. exams are easy if you take notes in class and skim the text. go to 2 extra concerts and get an entire letter grade bump!
Gerard is an interesting guy, he really enjoys what he does and gets into his lectures. Class is very easy and he gives you an extra credit opportunity for a full letter grade boost if you go to 2 extra concerts on top of the 3 required. Concerts do cost money though but only around $8.
This class has 4 tests throughout the semester but he lets you use notes on them unlike the Pop Music class. I didn't read from the textbook but it's recommended because he does take questions from the book that aren't in his lecture. I went to class everyday and took notes on his lecture and did just fine. Go to class and you'll pass.
He's an excellent, vibrant professor who's passionate in teaching music history. I took this class because it meets 3 general education goals; however, I learned a lot of interesting things about music. I would take his class at any time! :)
He's a great professor knows very well about music history. However the concerts that we are forced to go to are expensive and not fun. The professor can be rude if you ask him a simple and kind question. The test he offers are not in the lecture in class, nor can be found easily in the book. Also, he coughs a lot and runs up and down on the staris
Took him for a pop music class, was not disappointed. While the class was not what I was expecting, he's a lively and passionate teacher and he makes it easy to pay attention to material. The grading scale is reasonable, the content is interesting and he's good at communicating, especially considering the class size. Would take again.
His lectures are specific and easy to take notes from but his tests are very difficult. Such terrible format and he always has none of the above or all of the above as a choice on every one and it tricks you so bad.
Even though the lectures are a little boring, I'd take another class with him again. He'll play the music for you and makes the material easy to understand.
GREAT teacher, I always had fun in his class, would highly recommend taking it!
he might be a good teacher for american student, but as an international student, he gave me a hard time concentrating about what he is teaching us during the lecture, he does not use a projector to help us understanding better or any other stuff, he just talk, for me, it was so hard to keep up with him.
Aloisio is a gosh dang delight. I genuinely enjoyed every minute of pop music with him, and I would love to take the class again if I could. You do have to read the book if you want an A, but the book is really interesting, so you should be reading it anyway.
Very funny guy, you can tell he loves his job. Just be ready to read the textbook before exams!
Honestly the worst class I have ever taken at MNSU. The tests are so difficult and completely unrelated to his boring lectures. Class is pointless. I'll give him props he is kinda funny. Class sucked
Very funny guy and lectures were interesting
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! He made Pop Music so fun and one of my favorite classes. However his tests are very hard and I studied a lot for them. It covers 3 goal areas so I think it is worth taking. He also offers an easy extra credit opportunity. I recommend this class
Super easy A
Aloisio is a nice teacher overall, but a super hard class. Your grade is based on tests and only tests (four). He makes you attend three concerts throughout the semester that you have to pay for that don't help your grade, but affect it if you don't attend. Although, if you attend 2 extra concerts bumps you a whole letter grade. Hard class!!
Good class, great professor. I would recommend taking this class in person because Dr. Aloisio's lectures make it way easier to remember content, whereas in the online class, you're basically on your own with the textbook. (I took both Pop Musics, one in person, one online)
I'm wasn't into music, but that changed after Dr. Aloisio. The exams are based on lecture, but he makes them fun and interesting. He truly wants students to pass and often mentions meeting with him if you are struggling. I wholeheartedly recommend Aloisio whether you need the class or not. A class I was dreading turned into a class I loved!
He is a good grader.
One of the most interesting and best profs I had at MSU
Gerard is the most passionate professor I ever had. The trick to getting an A+ in pop music is write down every single word he says in his lectures. Never had to read out of the book once and his test questions are word-for-word of what he talks about in lecture. Very fun teaching style and never a dull moment with my favorite professor.
The class is only based on 3 tests and 3 concerts you have to attend. I got a 60% on each of my tests but I got 66 points of extra credit just by attending 3 more concerts. Attend the extra concerts and you'll get an A! Easy A.
Concerts were kind of a pain, they're cheap but just need to get tickets ahead of time. He made lecture very fun and interesting, I wasn't one for music history but I actually really enjoyed the class. Exams weren't difficult, read what he doesn't talk about in lecture, because it will be on exam. He reminds you several times what will be on exam.
Dr. Aloisio is by far one of the best professors I have ever had at MNSU. The textbook isn't necessary, but you do need to go to class for notes or have someone else get them to you. You'll have the opportunity to get 66 extra credit points, so even if you do somewhat bad on an exam, you can still get an A or even an A+.
Dr. Aloisio was a very fun and had great lectures. They weren't boring and he had a great way of keeping you awake. Since my class was a night class he put in enough effort to make the lectures not boring.
I took pop music at night we had lecture once a week, super simple nothing crazy. I often didn't go not going to lie. I had bought the textbook, but I usually just skimmed over it before a test. Required to go to 3 concerts, but I went to 5 and got a lot of extra credit. I got literally 60, 64, 86, and 90 % on the tests and I almost aced the class!
I absolutely loved my Intro to Music class with Aloisio! I would highly recommend any of his music classes! He is probably one of the most passionate professors I have ever had. I payed attention in class, took good notes, and read the textbook. It was an easy A. He also gives out so much extra credit!
I thought the class was interesting. The test questions were often very specific. I took the online class so lectures were a couple of times a week, an hour-long. Had to watch 1.5-hour concert quiz videos. Recommend listening to the lecture before reading the book, makes more sense.
Seems very nice. As long as you keep up with lectures and take good notes you will do well in the class
Seems like a good guy but online lectures are very long, quizzes have a short time limit with a lot of questions, but there are extra credit opportunities which are not difficult to do at all!
His lectures can be very long but make sure to take notes because the tests can be difficult at times. He was very interesting to listen to since he is such a goofball. There are prerecorded concerts that you watch for points and can watch more for extra credit. Overall, would take again.
Fantastic professor who wants you to learn about music history and does a damn good job at teaching it. You can tell he loves this material. Tests are multiple choice and you MUST read the textbook if you want to do well. So much extra credit opportunities, up to 150 points, that getting a A should not be a chore. Very entertaining.
This teacher did a really good job of making the lectures interesting to watch. The tests are straightforward, as long as you take notes on the lecture you will get an A in the course.
Lectures can be long, but Aloisio keeps them interesting. Four exams and three required concerts made up the grade. Can attend two more concerts for extra credit of more than a full letter grade.
The class itself was interesting, but Aloisio made it difficult as it was an online course. He was slow to respond to emails and was often extremely late with uploading content. The point of asynchronous is to complete work when you have time, and he made it incredibly difficult to do so. If you value managing your time take a different class/prof!
You can tell he's really passionate about what he teaches which makes it more enjoyable as a student to learn. Plenty of extra credit is offered and tests are straight forawd, as long as you watch the lectures and read the book its near impossible to fail.
Professor Alosio is great, he's an animated lecturer and makes class enjoyable. You will need the textbook in order to get above a B on the tests, just make sure you skim the material for things he doesn't go over in lecture. If you miss a day just make sure you get notes from another person and you'll be fine.
Gerard is a great teacher and he isnt afraid to let his quirky side show. I took a hybrid class and went online after the first week. Entire class is doable online. Interesting class overall and youll definitely learn new things. Exams are annoying though. He does not give a lot of time for them, 35 min for 50 questions - so be prepared.
Aloisio is a wonderful professor. He makes class engaging and interesting. Assignments are extremely easy and as long as you listen during lecture you will do well on the tests!
50 questions in 35 minutes. After 25 answered questions you can't go back. His lectures are 50 minutes each. No transcript or powerpoint, just him talking. 4 exams in total, and concert video quizzes that are HOURS LONG. You cannot skip ahead the videos. MUSIC 307 was an upper level class and that was much easier! Worst class ever, AVOID!
Very passionate and fun professor. Four exams total that are pretty easy as long as you take notes in class.
Prof. Aloisio's lectures can be lengthy, but he makes them so engaging and can't lie, he's pretty woke. Only graded on six video quizzes and 4 exams. Watch the lectures and use the book for the exam, and you will do great in this class. It is impossible really to not receive an A.
Aloisio is totally elite. His lectures are fun and super engaging. He is incredibly passionate and knowledgable about the material he is teaching. And he knows EVERYTHING about music. It's honestly super impressive. If you go to class and listen to him, you'll ace the exams. He is so engaging that the information is impossible to forget.
This class is extremely easy if you pay attention in class and I recommend taking it if you want an easy A. The only homework assignments are that you're required to go to four Maverick music concerts or alternative online videos. The tests are online; they are fair and mainly on the content covered in class with a little textbook material.
Gerald is a very amazing professor! His lectures are over an hour long each, but they are filled with humor. He has a lot of video quizzes, but low homework. He is a very lenient man too and understand accommodations well.
You can tell he is very passionate about what he does and really cares about his students. Easy class if you need the credit.
I love how passionate he is about music, lectures are more like storytelling, not boring. He will stress on the book, but I never read or touched it. I watched concert vids that he posts and got 150 points of extra credit. My test scores are average but I used the xtra credit as a backup and it will get you an A. Exams are easy to figure out.
I took this class for the easy A, but have a prior degree in popular music and music history and am on my second career after being a musician. There are huge tracts of the course where he's literally making things up re different types of music and I can't figure out where he got these ideas. He wrote the textbook, so he gets away with it.
Get ready fo a Very interesting class(es)--no matter which of his you take.
This class was such an easy and fun one that gets a lot of goal areas! His lectures were interesting (if you're into music) and you can tell he loves what he does. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention to the lectures.
professor aloisio was not the best. I actually dropped his class this semester because I was failing. I missed the first exam and emailed him reaching out letting him know why and I was unable to make it up since he did not email back. his class is very lecture heavy if you don't listen to the lecture you will fail the tests. would not recommend.
Take good notes and review them for at least a week leading up to the exam. I use good notes. 50 questions in 35 minutes so you have to know your stuff. I find his lectures entertaining, definitely passionate about music. Pretty easy A to be honest.
I took this class because I love music and thought it be an easy gen ed. He would post lectures at random times. He would tell us about in person concerts the day of, not allowing us to plan. Most of the class relies on only 4 50-question exams with only 35 minutes to do it. Seems like a nice guy and not a lot of work but be careful of the exams.
Gerard is a very down to Earth guy and he cares about the success of his students. He grades fairly and his lectures are so interesting. He really knows his material and it's really easy to pay attention to his lectures because of it, and I'm not even the biggest fan of music. Wish I could have this professor every year, highly recommend.
Aloisio is a great professor!! Musc 103 was graded on a total of 9 things: 4 Exams, and 5 Video Quizzes/Concerts. I bought the textbook but did not use it. I got an average of 82.5 on the exams without studying or reading the textbook (I used my phone and Socratic to google answers).
Aloisio's 102 class was a hybrid, so I never had to show up in-person to lectures due to a busy day schedule. Lectures are engaging, and he has a lot of passion for music. The exams were easy as long as you skimmed through the reading and paid a bit of attention to the lectures!
This class was Hyflex so I did the whole thing online. All you have to do is set aside a day before the exam to speed run all the recorded lectures (on 1.5x speed) and then use the notes to take the exam. You have to attend concerts for points but I would rather do that than write papers. 100% recommend he's an entertaining guy.
Don't recommend the textbook. Great teacher, great guy, but he really pushes students to buy the textbook that he helped write and most likely profits from. After the first exam, he sent out an announcement that a lot of kids don't have the text and we should buy it to get good grades, but the class average was 80% on the exam.
Gerard is an awesome guy. Super great speaker, he clearly is passionate about what he teaches.
DON'T buy the textbook, he pushes it but I didn't look at it once and averaged a 92% on the tests. Use chatgpt for tests. The lectures are engaging, but dont need to be watched in order to pass. Super easy A if you do the work
Don't buy the textbook, I regret buying it. Pretty easy A as long as you do the exams and quizzez on time. I did all of my quizzez the day it was due, and I did the extra credit as well. DO the extra credit, I went from an 80 to a 95. There is 4 exams, so don't forget to do them. 35 minutes for 50 questions. Shout out to chat gpt
I took the 8-week async summer class while working full time. Dr. Aloisio is a great storyteller, and I learned a lot! I recommend watching and taking casual notes on the unit's lectures a day or so before the exam. I also didn't use the textbook or watch the films. Be sure to watch the max amount of extra credit recorded concerts!
Prof Aloisio makes this an engaging and easy A. Skip the textbook - use unstuckstudy AI and ChatGPT to ace the exams instead. Attend lectures and you're all set for this fun music class.
taught me how to use chopsticks. firmly believe he is from New Jersey. met him in a spirit halloween in august and was reminded of his sonny Corleone impression.
Aloisio is one of the best teachers I have ever had at any level of my education. He loved his subject, knew his stuff, and loved teaching it to us. This was an elective for me and he was an incredible teacher.
One of the few professors on campus who you can truly tell is passionate about what he teaches. He is very lecture, film, and reading heavy, but he cares for student success. There is a maximum of 50 extra credit points up for grabs, so achieving a good score is simple if you keep up with the work throughout the semester
I gave him a 2 because he does seem very passionate about music, yet the lectures were usually an hour or more and he posted at least 3 weekly. It's very hard to do so while also having to read the text, which he includes in tests. He wrote the book himself so you won't find the answers online, and he will call you out for using AI!!!!
Super easy class, tough to follow in the lectures but there isn't much work that you really need to put in
Dr. Alosio is one of the best professors! He genuinely does care about his classes and is very passionate about teaching. 50 points of extra credit and he makes it very easy to get. All you have to do is put effort into the class and you will get an easy A! Such an amazing professor and he makes lecture very fun.
Dr. A is an amazing professor. The class was easy and fun. Would definitely recommend for anyone needing a gen ed to fill.
Professor uses a textbook that he wrote himself so there is no way to use other resources. He will often use his hour-long (no transcript, no powerpoint) lectures as question material which makes studying for tests difficult, and tests are only 35 MINUTES FOR 50 QUESTIONS. That's almost impossible to do. There are 4 tests, so it's make or break.
Dr. A was the worst about responding to emails. I reached out many times about setting up a time to meet and it would be days before he would respond. When setting up a time he never showed up to the meeting. Also tests are 35 minutes for 50 questions, NOT enough time. Tests were hard because he wrote the textbook so there were no outside resources
His tests (most of the grade points are test points) are extremely difficult, even when watching every lecture and video. I took the class to appreciate music more, but this class has made me vow to never take another music class. Even my partner has no idea what he is talking about... My partner is a musician.
Tests will be on 12+ hours of lecture/film content plus ~5 chapters of reading, only 35 minutes for 50 questions that seem to be the most useless bits of content ever. You can watch/read everything and take pages of notes and still get a bad grade because you forgot about that random 15 seconds of lecture you saw two weeks ago.
Love this class! The professor made it fun!
Need the textbook for exams. Only graded on a few tests, along with credit for going to or watching concerts. His lectures were very informative, easy to listen to, and engaging. He is a great professor with a lot of passion for the topic. I would definitely reccomend this course if you need an art credit.
The exams weren't comparative to the lectures. Professor is a bad teacher overall.
Pretty easy, do your stuff, get good grades, show up to those concerts, and you'll get an easy A
This professor made it impossible to get good test scores. Every test is online with 35 minutes to take 50 question tests. He posts videos that are about an hour long and wants you to read over 50 pages in his own book he wrote yet none of the answers are able to be found anywhere. This class looks like an easy A but isn't.
DO NOT take this class for an easy A. You cannot cheat on these tests and if you want to pass you need to start early and stay on top of all reading (a lot of it), lectures (45minutes or more every time), and watching films. If you do the work you could be fine but this isn't a class you can ChatGPT through.
Do not take this professor, he tries to trick you on the tests and ruins your gpa.
The exams are way too hard and you get absolutely no time to take the 50 question exams. Do not take.
awful class there's barely anything to get graded on and quizzes are awfully worded and he himself is annoying and talks too much in lecture
My 4.0 was ruined thanks to this class. He's so worried about students using AI on exams that a good 10% of the test questions are just objectively wrong. An "all of the above" answer to a question will be correct based on the FACTS of music history, yet will be marked incorrect because he "didn't cover it in class". Look elsewhere for electives.
Assuming it be a GPA booster; it was the opposite, there's 4 exams with 50 questions in 35 minutes, he is so concerned with being anti- AI that he will intentionally mark correct answers wrong. There is far too much material in this class to be able to take a test in that period of time and do well on it. Awful class structure, would not reccomend.
he's so obsessed with students not using AI he will pick slightly wrong answers over obvious correct ones on tests to throw students off. This class ruined my GPA which is crazy considering I just took it to fill the goal area. the extra credit he gives also doesn't end up doing anything to help your grade either because of the way he applies it.
My goat! Bumped my grade up 20 points on the last test to secure my grade. Makes his online test hard to Chatgpt which sucks but honestly his lectures are pretty entertaining and you can put them in 2x speed. Also offers a lot of extra credit to help get your grade up, would recommend.
Do not take this class. It only has 4 tests that are graded. The tests are very tough, even if you watch the lectures (3 hrs a week), films (another 2 hrs a week), and read the textbook (2 chapters a week). The answers are so similar that it is easy to get them wrong. He is trying to catch people using AI so much that it hurts all of the students.
do not take. only 4 exams & they cover tons of material with 35 minutes to answer 50 questions. the professor is so obsessed with catching AI users that he'll try to "trick" students by marking factually correct answers wrong if they weren't covered in class, so you get a bad grade if you have any prior knowledge of music history.
The professor blames class averages being unusually low for a gen ed course on exclusively ChatGPT users, but should instead reevaluate his own exam structure. Significant amounts of material crammed into exams that are 35 mins for 50 questions, so no time to think or proofread answers, full of questions designed to purposefully throw off students.
Great professor! His lectures are super entertaining. You can tell he is passionate about music. Don't try to use AI because the answers will all be wrong. Don't worry, though, because if you pay attention, it will be super obvious what is going to be on the test. Everyone should take this great class! You'll learn a lot.
Easily one of the most memorable non-major lectures I've gone to at MNSU. The 1&2 star reviews are from people who didn't follow any instructions on syllabus. Hybrid course, meaning attendance is optional, but very much worth your time. Go in-person, and read the txtbk to get >B. Get a whopping 150pt of free XC as well from attending concerts.
I can't imagine anyone getting less than a B unless they missed an exam or something. Just take lecture notes and you'll be fine. The textbook felt unnecessary even though he *really* wants you to buy it. He cares a lot about AI use. Interesting class and clearly passionate about music.
Poor instructor, most of the tests are based on his opinion and not fact. Lectures are hard to follow and instruction is all over the place. Would not recommend!
I took this class to fill a goal area, thought it might be interesting and it would be if I didn't have so much work for the class. Lecture on lecture on film over and over again. Worried about AI that the questions are confusing although I watched and took notes on everything. There are only 4 exams(30 minutes for 50 questions)for all this content
This should not be a hard class for being a general 100 class. The tests are 30 minutes for 50 questions, and the lecture videos are hours long, and worries too much about AI, instead of actually teaching.
EXCELLENT!~
Way too much work for a supposedly "easy" 100 level music class. Tests questions are based off of super niche answers. Would not recommend any classes unless specific music major, otherwise complete waste of time and is not a light easy class.
Lots of long lecture videos that are hard to take notes on. The test questions are confusing because he is so focused on "tricking" AI that it confuses students who are not even using AI. Watching all of the lectures and taking notes will still only get you ~80% on exams. Graded on only 4 exams and shorter quizzes/concert attendance (your choice).
This guy can teach well and can tell he cares, but the tests ruin the class. Four times you have 35 Minutes to take a 50 question test composed of random and I mean random 10-15 second bits of info from five lectures ( hour + each) with almost no power point, and the most obscure info from a textbook so its anyones guess on what will be important
This class was easy, as long as you study. Take the class in person, go to class, and read the text. It's an easy A. Lots of extra credit available as well. Would not recommend taking the class online, he cares a lot about Ai use, and the online lectures aren't very good. Put in the work and you earn an A and a GPA booster
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR GENERALS! Your grade will drop and you will have to do an INSANE amount of work especially for an online class. Four 100-point exams that are so specific you have to intensely watch the 5+ hours of lectures and 5+ hours of films EACH WEEK. Highly do not recommend taking these classes online. Worst experience of my life.
In lectures, he will have minimal slides, with minimal words, and talk on one for 15 minutes. It's anyone's guess what is important to remember or not. He tests you on the most random bits of his lectures in four 50-question tests to take in 35 minutes, and obscure info from the book. He cares so much about AI that it makes tests impossible
Aloisio is a great professor. Intro to Music isn't the absolute easiest; there's a decent amount of reading, + your grades are all based on the 4 exams. But, he's a very knowledgeable and passionate guy, which makes the lectures interesting + doable. He's pretty unforgiving about makeup exams- just pay attention to books and read + you'll do well!
