Gerardo is one of the best professors I've had. He really cares about his students, and will try his best to help everyone. Easy A as long as you go to class and do the homework.

I would not have done as well as I did if it werent for Gerardo bc he grades so easy and in favor of you. The tests for 201 are difficult in general, but he helps you as much as he can on them. I wish we would have talked in Spanish more but he did teach a lot of grammar so I do think I improved in that area in Spanish.

Gerardo Ruz is the man. Take him for any spanish class that you can!! You can tell he really wants his students to learn the language and is very understanding. He is super funny and class is enjoyable. If you study for the exams and remember to do the hw and parcipation you should be good! A couple group projects but they arent bad!

If i could I would marry professor Ruz. He's young and fun and a great teacher, very helpful with grammar only thing id change is id make him give us more handouts to practice in class.

Gerardo is one of the best teachers I have had in Spanish. He is a grad student and he understands that we have lots going on in our lives, so he helps us out with due dates and assignments as much as possible. He really appreciates feedback from his students, so he can adjust how he is teaching in order to make the class as smooth as it can be.

He makes the class fun, and he is really laid back. The tests can be difficult. As long as you do the homework and participate, you will do great in the class.

Genuinely one of the best Spanish teachers that I've had. He doesn't want his students to fail, he helps his students to do as well as they possibly could. Lots of homework but that is the departments fault not the teachers. Take Gerardo if you can it will make taking Spanish much better

Gerado bends over backwards to get his students A's. He is my favorite teacher because no one else compares to how helpful he is. The homework is every other night for a MWF class and then on Sundays, which is a department thing and he answers any questions you may have. Gerado makes this class worth it, you're missing out if you don't take him.

Because of my experience in SP 201, I am also taking SP 202 and 353 with him- and any other class I can. He is very understanding, and he tries hard to make sure people understand. The Spanish department has some rules that you can't get around (only 3 abscences, projects), but he is willing to help you with whatever you may be struggling with.

You will learn so much in this class and have fun while doing it. As long as he sees you are trying, you will be fine.

He's great because you know what's expected of you from the start. It's just a lot of talking and participating in class, not too much homework. We also watch a show for the entire semester on Netflix and discuss it, which is so much better than having to read a book. He's really chill and listens to us if we're having any problems.

He is very caring. In this class we watched a series on netflix called Gran Hotel and each class we talked about the show. The show was AWESOME! Each class you also had to come prepared with a one sentence write up of a current event that you share in class.

Absolute gem of a teacher. Take all of your classes with him that you can. I only took 1 with him and wish I had taken more.

Great guy. I have taken him for SP201, SP202, and now SP353. He is consistent in caring more about how much you are learning than grades. As long as you try and show you are putting in effort, you will be fine. We played a ton of games and watched a TV show in Spanish. Definitely not a boring class.

Really easy and beneficial class. Read Spanish language news, watch telenovelas for homework, and then talk about it in class. The two short papers are also really helpful and not stressful to write, unlike other Spanish classes, since the biggest concern is just being intelligible.

Great prof. super funny, gets off topic a bit but super fun. Class was tons of fun every day. Hardest thing is the vocab quizzes. Otherwise show up to class and talk a bit and you'll pass with flying colors.

Gerardo is a really great professor. You can tell he cares about the subject matter and about each of his students' success. Participation and attendance are mandatory for SP 353 because it is conversation based, but he's really funny and tells lots of stories about Venezuela so the class goes by quickly.

Hes such a great teacher. Very easy going and overall a very fair grader. Just show up to class and actually try and you will get the grade you deserve. He is not hard at all as long as you show up and participate.

Gerardo is such a compassionate teacher who really loves his job. He can accidentally make you feel insecure if you are having a day where your brain really cant think in Spanish. The quizzes can be tough as there can be a lot of vocab to study but only 5 words are picked. His personality is great. Hes a lot of fun.

I was very nervous going into it, as I've always struggled with conjugating verb tenses, though I generally knew what tense to use for what. It was a lot of reading and work, but pretty straightforward. Professor Ruz was VERY accessible outside of class. As long as you pace yourself and ask for help, you'll do great! Plus, he's very relatable.

This was my second semester in a row taking a class with professor Ruz and I wish he was teaching my next class. He has been able to take difficult grammar concepts and break them down and relate them to how we use them in English making it much easier and more valuable to learn for a non-native speaker learning a language.

I have really enjoyed my time in this class and that is largely due to the instructor. The class atmosphere that he creates is so positive and he always finds a way to tailor activities to students' different ability levels so that all of the class is involved. I feel my skills have come a long way, and I owe that to the class environment.

Professor Ruz is an outstanding professor. He really wants his students to succeed and is readily available during and outside of class. Participation is mandatory (if you miss more than three classes, your grade will drop by 10%), but this is not specific to Professor Ruz's course but all Spanish courses at UA.

He teaches mostly in spanish, but will use english when needed to help students understand. He has a clear knowledge of students' abilities and tries to get to know all of his students. He's very funny and works hard to make the class interesting and engaging.

Great instructor, he does a lot of activities to help us with speaking Spanish which I think is one of the most important things about learning a new language. He also shares a lot of things about the culture which I really enjoyed learning.

Amazing at teaching pronunciation and grammar techniques. I understand how to construct full sentences that can be used in conversation using the grammar techniques we use in class instead of just learning enough for the tests. He also incorporates fun ways to learn about grammar and language usage in real world applications.
