Intimidating, but fun.

He should probably make his course more challenging. He's incredibly helpful, and full of great advice that one should strive to follow.
Prof.Glomm's language: "I'm here the one asking questions!" Which means you as a student better sit still and keep quiet. Students are not encouraged to ask questions. Expect long formulas copied from a list without explanation behind them.
I learned an amazing amount. Even if he is "intimidating", he wants you to succeed in his course, and will help you do so.
Terrible.
Very difficult, complex concepts with sketchy explanations at best, and in a voluminous multitude, with little or no correlation to the book assignments... which he then expects you to complete
Just an awful teacher- the textbook did not help either. Be prepared for a lot of self study. Also, he goes off on random tangents in class and his attempts at humor are just bizarre.
I have to disagree with the previous posters--if you're interested in actually learning the material, and being challenged, then this is the professor/course for you. Prof. Glomm doesn't make things easy, but in the long run, I feel like I'm better prepared for future econ courses than I would otherwise be.
i hated every second of his class. im usually a good student and he made me feel stupid. and not in the way that he pushes you to dig into the material, but in the way that he doesnt explain any of it but just expects it to make sense. run.
Glomm is sharp and knows what he's talking about. He doesn't put up with bull, though. You can't just BS your way through his class, you actually have to learn the material and go to class.
Tough, but fair. Made me a lot more interested in the subject. Although his textbook was difficult and unhelpful, he only tests you on what you learn in class. Exams are open-ended essay type and no calculators were allowed.
The class material is very difficult but Glomm tries to make it interesting. Very funny guy who wants his students to succeed. He only tests over things he covers in class, which is nice. The homework is very hard, though. Challenging professor, but worth it!
Great Professor. He's funny and gives lots of real examples and anecdotes that made the material more interesting. He is approachable and helpful in office hours. He does expect a lot from students though. Don't expect an easy A. If you want to learn economics, he is a great prof. If you don't, then you should probably avoid.
Overall, I liked this class a lot and he made it pretty interesting. His lectures are definitely engaging (which helped at 8am), and he's funny too. My only complaint is that he dwells on things and rambles a bit in his lectures. The class is tough, you just have to put it in the necessary effort, which you will be tempted to not do. 7/10
this professor is worthless. unclear expectations, unclear grading policies, and tests don't reflect what is covered in class. coming to class is a confusing experience more than a learning one. i have been an a and b student all my life but i failed this class. awful reflection of the econ department.
Went to every single class. Class is based on 3 exams (20%/each) and a final (40%), and my grade was alright, that is until we took his impossible final. The week before the exam he even had his TA teach the class for his first time while I professor was no where to be seen and the TA seemed extremely lost and confused. Do. Not. Take.
Glomm was often unprepared and brough irrelevant information to lectures. No textbook or course materials. There were two exams - each one four questions and borderline impossible - class average around 25%. Very frustrated with him, gave 80% of class B-grade. Only B I received as an econ major.
The dude talks for hours about nothing applicable. Does not prepare you for tests. Get ready to teach yourself. Do not take E201 from Glomm. You will not do well.
While his lectures can be interesting, they aren't related to the material he tests. I read the textbook and that has helped but the material on the exams is so specific that if you didn't look at the "right" content you're screwed. I would not recommend if you want a good grade. The "highest" grade on the first test was a 70%...
His lectures are interesting to hear, but are not relevant at all to tests usually. The day before one of only three tests, he talked to us about "how to choose a husband" instead of reviewing material. Tests have only 3 questions on it, so if you don't know it you won't pass. Got a 73% and it was the second highest grade in the class.
Out of my 3 years here he was the worst teacher I have ever had. His lectures aren't that relevant, and the majority of the class is currently failing. His study guides and lectures have small relevance and most people wind up failing. If you take this class your GPA will guaranteed drop, his grading is brutal, tied with terrible teaching.
I didn't exactly learn something in this class. The exam 1 was easy. Exam 2 was much harder and covered the guest lecture so make sure attend every guest lecture. No ppt, no sample exam except exam1. Not an easy class. I'll not recommend this class if you want to learn something.
He may be a tough grader, he does his best to make sure people succeed. The first exam was based on the review, and the second one wasn't. People bombed it, but he gave everyone a chance to come to his review session to get his answers to the question. He then gave us a retake of the exact same test. He also gave a huge curve on the final grade.
At first glance his lectures seem random but if you take the time to think about what he's saying it provides a deeper understanding of the material. This class is not just memorization, you have to understand the material and be able to apply it. He's also always willing to go over the material and talk. He really does care about his students
Class seems random and guidelines for assignments aren't clear. Tough grader, hard to get good grades. Contradicts himself. You can't yawn in this class.
Glomm clearly likes teaching the class but I just hate economics. I only showed up for tests. Make sure to understand ANY TOPIC that is mentioned on the practice tests and you'll be fine. However, Glomm is passionate about what he teaches and wants to make sure you understand the economic issues he presents you with.
He is a super caring guy and definitely cares about the students. When he teaches he goes very fast and doesnt take very much time to explain the basics before the harder stuff. The quizzes are extremely hard for no reason. Group projects graded on a bad scale, nobody ever gets 100% (40,70,100 are the grading options). Only class I got a B in.
Glomm is a great person, and it makes me sad to say he is not a good professor. This course was really confusing and I felt like the lectures were random and not very helpful. He also did not give much material to study for tests and his powerpoints were vague. I recommend that if you do anything, attend lectures, pay attention and take notes.
Good intentions, terrible professor. The 2nd and 3rd exams are impossible to do good on no matter how much you study. The questions make no sense and are way too vague to answer. There are groups projects every week and he will only give you a 100, 70, 50, or 0. Pretty much every groups got a 70 or 50 every time with hardly any explanation.
Glomm definitely knows what he's teaching, but emphasizes the details rather than the big picture, making some concepts a little harder to understand. If you've taken micro in the past, 10/10 would recommend him for B251. Just a headups though, there are A LOT of group papers in his class that are pretty hard to get over a 7/10 on.
Okay so I feel bad giving Prof Glomm a sub-par grade, but as I've seen many people say prior to myself, he is not a good teacher. While he is clearly enthusiastic about economics, he goes on long and often barely relevant tangents. Beyond this, he very much gives, "A C is the average grade" vibes. Y'all already know what I mean...
Glomm is a nice guy, which is why it hurts me to say he is not a good professor. He knows his stuff but does not do a good job lecturing. His lectures can oftentimes be very boring, off-topic, irrelevant, and just hard to follow/understand. Group projects, exams, and even the Canvas quizzes are difficult. Good luck on the final. Nice guy, bad Prof.
Do not take Glomm! He makes this class stupidly hard by using his own, self-published, unedited textbook. He rants about specific examples rather than large concepts - and you are tested on large concepts. We also had 2 group papers which were graded HARSHLY with no feedback. I learned nothing because he taught so non-traditionally. Waste of time!
Professor Glomm was a really great professor to have, and although I did enjoy his lectures he did tend to go off subject a lot and sometimes I didn't feel like I got as much out of his lectures as I hoped. I always tend to get more from lectures than readings, but if you get a lot out of classes from reading, definitely take this!
Glomm is a nice guy, just not the best teacher. Going into the final I had absolutely no clue what my grade in the class was, he had out scores locked on Canvas basically the entire semester. I had already taken microeconomics in high school and went into this course thinking it would be similar- it's not, Glomm does his own thing.
Easy to get an A if you go to class and do the readings. Also his extra credit is very generous.
Professor Glomm is one of my favorite instructors I've ever had. He teaches very enthusiastically and engages the students very well during lectures. Glomm offers the chance for a reasonable amount of extra credit through discussion-based sections outside of class. Just stay listening to all his lectures and you'll pass with flying colors.
By far the worst professor I’ve had at IU so far. Lectures = long & boring. He does not teach w/ ppt slides or notes so students must retain information as he says it. He does not post anything on Canvas & won’t allow students to submit assignments that way. Tough grader & refuses to give students feedback. How he still has a job is baffling
such a bad professor. The class seems easy at first because he grades nothing until you have a group project due weekly. Projects which he only gives 7/10 with no feedback. Then 2 exams that cover nothing learned in class and you are expected to purely memorize practice questions. he posts the wrong due dates. The dude is a complete disaster.
He was a nice enough person, but an awful teacher. He is insanely difficult to understand in lecture. He urges people to come to office hours, but then just talks over you. There was no homework, tests, or quizzes given in class, so most of the grade is based off of a project, which was hardly explained at all. Don't take this class.
There is no incentive to go to class because nothing graded is directly related to his lectures. And even if they were, he will, every class, go on long, boring, completely unrelated tangents- somethings saying borderline offensive things. He is not internet literate- the Canvas page is an empty wasteland, and your emails to him will be ghosted.
If you can avoid taking this class, do it. A large part of your grade is semester long group projects in which there are virtually no clear directions on how to do it. You will most likely get a C on each part and not know why. The professor will not clarify, nor does he utilize Canvas at all. If your grades or gpa matter to you, avoid this class.
A very easy class to self-study for. He wrote the textbook himself which is littered with errors but if you read it carefully, it will prepare you for the weekly quizzes and ultimately the exams. His lectures make no sense so there is no incentive to go to class. He is also very generous with extra credit and has a nice grade distribution.
Hands down worst professor I've ever had. 0 clarity in his lectures so you're left totally lost. The course material is from his own thoughts so if the answer isn't what he thinks is right it's wrong. REFUSED to provide a rubric or any instructions to a group project worth 30% of our grade. Not done with the class but I can say he is a nightmare.
Glomm is the WORST professor I've ever had. Harsh and unclear grading. Everything his based off his opinions, and you have to memorize this to get anything right. Lectures are irrelevant tangents and he is so out of touch with reality. He is so illogical and actually horrible as a person and professor. Do not take his class!!!!
Total disaster. Makes confusing material even more confusing. Lectures are almost always off topic and unrelated to anything. Exam questions are uncovered in the class. Refuses to change his methods or elaborate so if you're struggling you can't get help. Most of the time it feels like he doesn't even know what he's talking about.
Nice guy, terrible professor. He rides on having a tenure and grading ridiculously hard. In class quizzes killed everyone. Worst of B251 professor choices. 5 on AP Micro and Macro, yet still struggled with his extremely poorly designed course and questions.
Nice guy, but the class is annoying. You have to do a decent amount of work, and I would even say attendance is highly recommended, especially due to surprise pop-quizzes that no one knows the answers to. His content is similar to AP Microeconomics, +/- one or two completely random topics. Major hint: study all quizzes he's given very thoroughly...
First of all, he, he said he would curve our grades and just did not do so, he's the only teacher ever to not curve test or grades. If you are in this class please drop it, he will ruin your semester. He gives random pop quizzes out of nowhere that are impossible and worth 15% of your grade somehow. He also wrote his own textbook for no reason.
Do NOT take this class. I have never received such low grades in my life and he provides absolutely no structure and does not grade using a rubric. I am an A student and have had a D- the entire semester. The only grades that go in the grade book are from group projects and EVERYONE in your group receives the same grade. Bizarre, off topic lectures
I wasn't sure I'd pass his class because of how wishy washy he is. His lectures teach nothing but he would give short pop quizzes often so you have to go. His textbook is a little more helpful but also does not cover everything you need to know for exams. Exams were some old quiz questions but sometimes not. Don't take his class if you can help it.
Gerhard is a cool guy that seems knowledgeable in his field. That being said, his class is horrible. The lectures are not focused on the assigned material, and the assigned material (which is the textbook he wrote) is plagued with all sorts of errors (grammatical and informational). His organization is horrible and his material is difficult. Avoid!
None of the lectures make any sense and most people I've talked to are very lost. He wrote the textbook so it really doesn't help much. He makes uncomfortable jokes and comments about race and gender than end up having nothing to do with the material. The tests are very difficult after studying for hours. He is very nice, just not a good professor.
Absolutely do NOT take this class if you can help it. He wrote his own textbook which is literally just filled with his own thoughts and opinions (not to mention straight-up errors). So many of his questions are "hypotheticals" that don't even make sense. Quizzes and exams are absolutely impossible after studying for HOURS. Total grade tank.
ATTENTION INDIANA UNIVERSITY GET A NEW FASHION ECON TEACHER NOW! One lecture this semester he broadcasted a picture and the address showing the home of one of the students within the class. That is confidential information that 1 a teacher should not know OR EVER SHARE WITH THE ENTIRE CLASS WHERE HE LIVES!
dude actually blows. glomm is the kryptonite for any pre kelley students trying to get in.
I recommend not having this professor for this course at all . He is a nice person but by far one of the worst professors I've ever had. His lectures and exams make no sense what so ever as he's very vague. Doesn't have a rubric nor specify what he is looking for when grading class projects so you're left figuring everything out on your own.
WORST CLASS EVER do not take this class merchandising students! Take any other Econ class. The textbook(written by him) is filled with grammatical errors, random pop quizzes, no rubric or instructions for assignments, he makes very racist comments, picks on students, and THE EXAMS ARE HORRIBLE. Class is always off topic so pointless to go -10/10
Glomm's a really nice guy but not a great professor. He uses an unfinished textbook that he wrote himself and his lectures are rarely relevant to any econ material that'll be on a test. Multiple canvas quizzes every week and in-class pop quizzes for attendance. Pretty much on a separate curriculum than other B251s. Choose another prof if possible.
I hate to write a bad review because he is a funny, kind old man, he was NOT a great professor. He teaches his own concepts (different from all the other B251 professors) and his textbook is full of mistakes. his questions don't always make sense. Don't bother office hours he will just talk to you about random things. class lectures are pointless.
Stay away from Glomm. He uses a "textbook" that he wrote himself with no additional sources. His classes are scattered and full of confusing & unnecessary examples (like calling out random students to engage in his skits). Also, because he wrote his own textbook, most tutors around campus can't help. Overall terrible teacher and made me hate Econ.
He's a pretty nice guy if you actually sit down and have a conversation with him. That being said, he teaches a from his own textbook different from the rest of the B251 professors. The book is littered with errors and half the tests are nonsense statistics he said one time in class. Not to mention he told us he would curve every test and hasn't
Glomm was by far the worst teacher I have ever had throughout my entire career.
Glomm is a nice guy but a terrible teacher. His lectures make no sense and he often talked about inappropriate topics unrelated to econ. Every week there was an error with one of the MCQ answers, so it was very frustrating to get it fixed. Oftentimes he would just ignore the problem. His tests aren't bad if you study the quizzes carefully.
Glomm is the worst. No rubrics for the 4 projects that your grade entirely depends on. Made me talk to him on the phone and not go to office hours. Attendance wasn't mandatory, then halfway through, it was. I was there for every class I didn't get 100% on attendance. Said he would curve our grades but didn't say how. When I asked he was very rude.
Gerhard Glomm is a great guy, but a horrible professor. Often goes on rants about topics not related to the course. A's were impossible, he graded like C was average so most A+ papers got B's. Made some remarks regarding women that were probably a little insensitive. Started doing quizzes when 90% didn't show up. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, ANY OF THEM!
This man is the single worst professor I've ever had. His lectures are about essentially nothing. This Gender AND Economics class has little to do with economics. His grading system is arbitrary. He told me that I was absolutely going to be abused by my future husband. He then listed all the ways that my husband would hurt me.
Absolutely horrible professor. Made weird comments about the girls in class every day. wanted to call me on the phone? so so odd. He does not know how to use Canvas, so there is no syllabus or way of knowing whats going on or what assignments are due.
Worst teacher I've ever had in my entire student career. The only grades are from 4 group projects where everyone receives the same grade. Also there is no rubric or instruction onto how the project is supposed to be done. Lectures are a joke, he says rude, weird, and sometimes very inappropriate things. I don't know how he hasn't gotten reported.
Though sometimes Glomm's lectures were kinda random and a little out of touch at times, I truly had a blast in his class. After sharing some troubling personal matters with Glomm he was very understanding and caring offering some truly helpful advice. Mildly difficult
10/10 would NOT recommend. asks students inappropriate questions like can he choke them. also makes jabs at students appearances and bullied other students to do so. makes weird comments relating to women. goes on rants that relate to nothing of which we were talking about. gives group projects with 0 instructions. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
I like Professor Glomm a lot as a person, but his teaching methods are very iffy. He spends most of his lecture time going off on weird tangents that don't have a lot to do with the class. We only had 5 assignments, and everybody got relatively the same score on them. Also very vague instructions on them.
Lectures feel like they only hurt you, writes his own confusing and wacky course material which no off campus tutoring services support. Overcomplicate subject material, uses lectures to rant. Overall leaves you having to learn material yourself. A killer for pre-kelley students. Avoid this professor at all costs
Awful. He is so bad at teaching. I do not know if there is another professor that is worst in the country
Group project research papers uncorrelated with course work, off-topic lectures, office hours not helpful with course material just talking
-his lectures make no sense and are not related to econ at all -he makes his own textbook and exams so you cannot get tutoring for anything (if you go to campus service tutoring they will tell you they can help with every econ professor but glomm -a bunch of pop quizzes that make no sense -has his own grading scale that makes no sense
Most confusing lectures ever that have nothing to do with econ. Goes off his own textbook different from all the other B251 professors. Basically told us our canvas grades don't matter in the middle of the semester and has own grading scale that is way more difficult to do well on.Tests are impossible to study, for they are just random statistics.
Glomm is not a very good teacher. His lectures make no sense, and he writes his own textbook, which also makes things a whole lot more difficult. His tests are actually not bad because, for the most part, they are the quiz questions. Overall, he doesn't know how to explain things well, even if you meet with him. Avoid if possible.
Seriously do not take this class. He writes his own textbook while testing and teaching you topics that have nothing to do with Economics. The only B251 professor that makes you write essays with a randomly assigned group with no rubric(average is 65%). The TA's literally have no idea what is going on most of the time.
Actually makes no sense anything he teaches. Even the TAs, every single one has no idea how to help you because they don't understand what he's teaching. Fade and avoid at all costs. He can't teach well.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. he does not know how to lecture or structure a class. he rambles about random topics like an old man with dementia and wrote his own curriculum and notes for the class which is NEVER consistent with lecture material. inappropriate jokes, nonsensical quizzes, it would be a DISGRACE to call this class economics.
Actually, the worst class I've ever taken. The textbook is his notes. The exams are horrible especially the final. He does not prepare you at all and his class is nothing like any of the other econ classes. All he talks about in class is sex and alcohol. Probably the worst professor on campus.
Very obviously only here because of his tenure. Way different curriculum than every other teacher, made his own textbook that is basically just a bunch of rambling. Probably the worst teacher you could possibly get, his class is nothing close to an econ class. Please do not take his class, you will regret it as he has no idea what he is doing.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. All other B251 professors follow a curriculum but he does his own thing. His lectures make no sense at all, and he is constantly making lectures awkward with sexual jokes. If you want to get into Kelley, do not take this class as it will be the fastest way to end up in SPEA
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. DROP IT. If you have the opportunity to take a different teacher do it, even if it means taking an 8 am or 6pm. The tests are awful, either a random quizlet online somewhere or material that is impossible to study for. The lectures have nothing to do with economics at all, mostly random stories or life reflections.
Would not recommend this professor. You would not have any clue what's going on if you only paid attention in the lectures. The exams were mostly based off the textbook, which made sense as the questions were relevant, but the final was completely the opposite, as none of the terms were gone over in class or found in the textbook.
His class is a disgrace. The final covered nothing that was covered in lecture or quizzed on throughout the year, and nothing that we were tested on for the midterms showed up on the final. No study guides, no rubrics, no anything. Easiest way that to get into SPEA, like many people who took this class this semester.
Online textbook but doesn't correlate with any quizzes or texts. Research papers graded super hard and students received 12/30. Final exam was genuinely the craziest thing I've ever seen. Terms and questions that were never taught.
Terrible professor. Had an A before the final and dropped to a B+ after the exam and the second group writing assignment grades. I ended up doing the writing projects alone and got full points for the first one and a 63 for the second one with no explanation. Final was nothing like the class or textbook. Worst professor ever. Avoid at all costs.
Had a 91 before the final exam, felt completely proficient in all material (I studied for 16 hours over the course of 3 days leading up to the exam). Got handed the final and couldn't help but laugh. Terms he never mentioned in the textbook or in any lecture that were so loosely tied to economics that I couldnt even figure out the answers post-test
The bottom line is that the lectures are impossible to follow and you are on your own for this course, he uses his own textbook so there are no outside resources. Going into the final I had an B+ and ended up sitting for the single hardest exam I have ever seen finishing with a C+. If you are Pre-Kelley, do not take this teacher.
This so called "Econ" class will be the reason I dont get into Kelly. If you have this professor you genuinely need to do everything in your power to change professors or youll end up like me (my only grade below a 90 is in this class). Paying tons of money for this complete mess of a class that even his TA's were confused during.Waste of 16 weeks
I had a B+ going into the final. I studied for the final using his “textbook” ( which really is just his unorganized notes) and my grade dropped to a B-. Many other people had similar experiences. Overall, his lectures are confusing, the “textbook” is difficult to follow and isn't even Econ half the time. Avoid this course, especially Pre Kelley.
Do not take this professor. Went into the final with an A- and finished with a B-. It was genuinely the hardest exam I've ever taken in all my years of schooling. No warning, no explanation, and a curve that didn't do this exam justice. Seriously would not recommend this teacher to anyone.
Not only does this professor make weird comments at students, he finds a way to be useless in every single lecture during the semester. Avoid this class. Every lecture is about sex, alcohol, or his political views. Grading is also crazy, the final exam consisted of nothing from his readings, dropping everyones grades.
This professor makes up his own curriculum and the content on exams are nothing related to what is taught in class
An 8 A.M. would have made me happier than this class. Uses a textbook that he made himself, unfinished, unorganized, and full of errors. TAs don't even understand how to help you, on top of that, there are B251 tutors that will refuse to tutor you just because you have this professor as the criteria is so different than all the other B251 classes.
Lectures were unstructured and contained random facts that had no relevancy to the course. Grading and group projects were not explained clearly and we learned about literally nothing on the final exam. He uses his own textbook and the TA's/ tutors cannot help you in this class. Avoid this class/professor if you can!
Professor Glomm is very nice as a person... but his teaching style and tests are horrible. His lectures and textbooks had barely any "real" economics. We did not know our real grade until the end of the semester because he did not know how to use Canvas properly. Additionally, he made frequent mistakes in his quizzes.
awful teacher. avoid at all costs. seriously.
professor was terrible, he made derogatory remarks against women and always talks about something unrelated to the class entirely during lectures. oh bigyod
The professor had very disorganized lectures and were not clear to understand. The textbook was written by him, so the content was completely biased and not clear. After studying the whole "textbook" in and out before exams, I still could not succeed. For an intro business class, I would not recommend
Do NOT take the class. His textbook is self-written, full of incomplete and incoherent thoughts. Online assignments were easy, but pop quizzes in class were not. Glomm has two group essay assignments with a max of 850 words, which does not leave enough space for what he wants. Lastly, his final was intentionally hard to lower the average grade.
Bro writes his own textbook, and most of class is going on a rant about anything he wants. He does have comedic timing but is noticeably sexist. If you have him for introductory Econ enjoy SPEA
This guy is the worst professor to walk to planet. I would genuinely rather take all 8 am classes for the rest of college instead of having to take this guys class again. This guy has no idea how to teach or grade, we had two papers and my group worked hard on them and he gave us 20/30 on both of them without being able to justify why. Do not take.
Glomm is the bomb! Glomm explained everything so thoroughly! When I was struggling to do my homework or understand the reading, he would always take time out of his day to help me. Glomms tests were so easy as he gave us all study guides as to what the test was on. I would 100% take this class again, as Glomm is my favorite teacher so far in kelley
Worst teacher I've ever had. His textbook is self-written, full of incomplete and incoherent thoughts. He never has a point and is noticeably sexist. His lectures were so disorganized and pointless, all he did was rant about unrelated topics and he never EVER finished a thought. I learned nothing, I am so lucky to have passed this class, STAY AWAY.
I wish I could give a rating of 0, genuinely. Gerhard is probably the worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. He doesn't give ANY rubrics, grades are arbitrary, and he is SO cocky for someone who doesn't know how to do their job. He should retire at this point before he wreaks havoc on the lives of more innocent students.
Be prepared for your ears to bleed. One of the worst professors at Indiana University.
This honestly is probably the worst professor i've had at IU. His projects literally have no rubric and he will give you zeros for assignments even if you correct them because they're not what he wants. If you don't want to fail, i would drop. he just put grades in after the drop date so that people are stuck in the class.
No grading criteria. Grades based off whatever he's feeling in the moment. No feedback. Won't post instructions for projects & only tells you one time in class. 5/7 grades are group projects. Won't put in grades until after drop point. Tells you to go to office hrs but will talk for an hour & not answer 1 question. Lectures/textbook made up by him.
Glomm is incredibly difficult, and his classes are not worth taking. Save yourself.
He has a unique teaching style, with content being derived not from the textbook, but from course material that he has created, so it maybe a little biased to his perspective. He gives group projects, hates the use of AI, and it's not going to be easy to get an A or even B+ at all! But he is very caring, and ready to help, but gotta make use of it!
Does not give any grading criteria for any work or project. Does not use Canvas page in any conventional or meaningful way, vital info is scattered everywhere with no care for student comprehension. Makes up lectures as they go along. No structure to curriculum. No grades posted 2 months in. Overall very aloof and in no way helpful to students.
**DO NOT TAKE**Genuinely the worst professor/teacher I've ever had. Racist, sexualized students, and astonishingly bad at teaching. No explanations, no thought behind lectures, questions are worded in "his own way", with that way being nonsense. The fact he gets paid to "teach" blows my mind and how he still has a job is incredible.
Do not take Glomm. Trust me. He teaches his own textbook in class and the tests have nothing of it on them. He also rambles about nothing in class and then out of nowhere comes back to the material. Most classes I don't even know what to take notes on because I dont know what I need to know. Do not take this class.
Dude is genuinely the worst teacher I've ever had. If I could give him a 0 I would. He talks about random stuff most of class, that is not even related to econ, he writes his own textbook that doesn't even make sense. The things he puts on the tests aren't even in the text book or about what he discusses in class. Don't know how he has a job
RUN - if you can if you have the choice of taking it next semester, DO IT if you are stuck in this class, few things to note: - unlike AP Macro and Micro (mostly new material) - 3 exams (including final) which are very hard even if you study the way he structures the class makes it VERY Hard glomm himself isn't actually that bad
Awful professor. If your prekelley, drop. Does not teach the normal curriculum for economics. Test questions make no sense and even ai doesnt get more than 70%. Lectures are full of random rants and zero preparation for the tests. Do. Not. Take.
Super confusing course since he goes off of a completely different curriculum. Questions on exams are irrelevant to the actual topics and he uses references to in class examples that could easily be glossed over when studying. Don't take please!
No slides, have to teach yourself outside of class, and includes an extra group research paper that has to be resubmitted and regraded through the semester. Lessons are not focused on test questions, and he kind of just talks about random things that he slightly relates to the lesson in a very not useful way.
I took AP micro and macro economics in high school and his textbooks make absolutely no sense. I already happen to know some of the concepts we're learning but if I didn't I would get an F in the class. He writes his own textbook and the Pearson quizzes are extremely hard and have no relation to his exams. Group projects graded super strict
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!! But if you get auto enrolled like I did, then just make sure ONLY to study class notes. The tests have nothing to do with the textbook, though its like 90% of the homework.
Glomm never talked about anything related to the course. He would go on tangents, talk about religions and politics, and is incredibly sexist. I do not recommend you take his class.
This class was automatically assigned to me as a freshman, and I am still pissed off that I ended up with him. He spent 90% of his lectures talking about random personal things, and he didn't shy away from expressing his opinion. If you have the option, do not choose him or drop the class if you're assigned him.
He cannot teach well; the only thing that was interesting the entire time was the final day, when he wasn't even talking about economics. He uses his own notes as a textbook and uses the actual textbook for quizzes. The tests have nothing to do with the textbook, and include random numbers from the lecture.
If you put in the work and effort, reading his textbook before every class, reviewing materials, and listening and taking notes during class, you will be fine. It is a hard class, but Professor Glomm is very passionate about the course, also very nice and funny. If you also go to TA hours and his office hours, you will get extra credit and help.
Do not take this class with this professor especially if you're pre-Kelley; he uses his own poorly written material over a textbook; has less extra credit opportunities than other professors; last two exam averages have both been in the 60's; only one to do a writing project & gives vague guidelines for them. Very nice and pleasant guy though.
Just don't its bad
He's not as bad as some people say he is, but he assigns way too many quizzes, and the research paper is annoying, especially if your group doesn't help you. I'd take B 251 with someone else if possible; however, if you are stuck with him, you'll be fine as long as you put a lot of effort into his class.
Gets a lot of hate because, yes, his course is more difficult than other B251 profs'. However, he is accessible outside class hours and clearly passionate about the subject matter. If you put in the work - a lot of work - you will get duly rewarded. I don't recommend him for pre-bus students.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He made his own textbook for the class, which had canvas quizzes for, but then also assigned another textbook for us to read and had more quizzes on that. He doesn't explain anything, talks about random stuff that has no correlation to economics, and thinks that he is better then everyone else.
Please don't take it; one grade can destroy you.
👎👎👎👎👎
Such a bad professor. His lectures are just incoherent rants. His self-written textbook doesn't prepare you for exams. The content is completely different from other B251 classes so there are no outside resources to help you with this class. He doesn't respond to emails and his TAs are no help either. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Horrid professor take with literally anyone else!
NotebookLM everything paste all his notes in there and don't worry about group projects grades those are actually impossible to get a good grade. Tests are not bad first one is the hardest second one is easy final is medium difficulty just notebooklm videos and quizzes
Not as bad as people make him out to be. More difficult than other econ professors, but if you read his self-made textbook which is literally just the lecture notes, you'll be fine. Very accessible outside of class, gives extra credit if you go to CL sessions and the in class quizzes are basically free points.
Please, save yourself- especially if you're pre-kelley. It's possible to do well, but just not worth it. You would learn the same amount in less time with another prof. His exam class averages are 60%, he often doesn't give students points they earned, and he does not answer emails. So bad at explaining materia, even during office hours/CL sessions
Just makes everything way harder than it needs to be. You can't get help, either, because he teaches whatever he wants with no structure. He's old and forgets everything and his explanations will just confuse you more. If you're pre-Kelley, drop this class like a hot potato or start scheduling your SPEA classes next semester.
