This guy is freakin' hilarious! His lectures make next to no sense, but it's constant entertainment, and it doesn't matter anyway because his exams are all on the internet. Worth having him just for the sheer comedy
He is hilarious! Class was worth going to because he was entertaining...Exams were pretty easy - he just used his old midterms and changed a couple of questions around. Good prof and VERY helpful to his students!
Gerhard is hilarious. He will trip, almost fall on his face, and keep on teaching like nothing happened. This seriously happens every class. It's awesome. Oh yeah, and he's a good meteorology prof too.
the best part of his lecture was waiting to see what words he would make up,(snooot, splishing) and watching him rub his globe excessively. Loved this class!!!!!
In a small 300 level class he believes the average should be lower than a 2nd or 1st year class, in 372, its all essays and marks quite hard. If he doesn't like you, he will fail you even if you know your stuff, ask him why its wrong and he'll bs you that you need to write beyond what thequestionasks

His classes are incredibly boring but he is very comic to watch. Seems delighted to have a captive audience at his disposal. Has a knack for screwing up Grade 3 level demonstrations (static electricity, tornado in a bottle) which is funny. Funny pronunciations. Everything for test is on the web.

Very entertaining to watch. Has a unique way of explaining things that will make you remember them. Very fond of his globe as well.
Entertaining, exams are relatively easy as long as you study the basics. Constantly talks about the class being an interest course and that we don't need to study, just be interested in the material. The only downfall was the boring lectures even he himself was entertaining.
THIS CLASS WAS AWESOME!!! I enjoyed this class and the material was easy to learn if u went to class and studied using the text. His demonstratiosn were funny and went wrong sometimes. The guest lectures were alright. overall a really interesting class.
I skipped half of the classes, slept through the other half, and got an A+. Easiest class I've ever taken. He'll tell you all about his sausage.
VERY PASSIONATE about what he does. Class is easy if you attend and read the text. Easy to do well. His examples made you remember things easily. Great prof.
Well the only nice thing I can say about him is that he's interesting. Other than that he's nuts. I stopped going to class halfway through because they were useless. He rambles on about nothing and bumbles around like an idiot. However this is highly entertaining, just don't expect to learn anything
In a way, this course is pointless to go to b/c the notes he posts online include the pages to read in the textbook. Exams are quite easy since he pulls them off from previous exams. He makes it a point of telling students that this course is for "interest," not "required." Overall, he's a nice guy.
He should go to the Hollywood instead of teaching. It's funny to watch him screw up an experiment or spinning around to demostrate how tornado works.
Classes are a waste of time, but the workload isn't intense. Beware of the high class average with the curve!
Felt the need to remind us that gravity exists, multiple times. If you take education seriously and pay for your own tution, this man will infurirate you. Compared everything to sausage, even if a better simile was manifest. Once described the earth as a sausage flatened at both ends.
WACKO! Fun, I guess...but notes were very hard to read/follow. Hard to understand verbally as well.
Don't bother going to class or reading his notes-they're all from the text. The first 100 q's of the final were straight from the practice exam on his website, and the last 50 were obscure trivia. Made the class average interesting.
Had a really hard time understanding him. The courseware was okay but the midterm was brutal! He said he would focus on concepts but there were a lot of applied questions! You can't avoid the curve in this class and it definitely hurt me. The lab component is a waste of time and is boring. Was entertaining though, very peculier man.
Amazing prof, hes VERY funny, and his tests/notes are right from the book/text/practice exam. I dont see how you couldn't enjoy his classes.
Class is sooo damn boring, dont go to class, the tests are easy, but u can't understand anything he says. Easy class though
More than a little eccentric, but ultimately fascinating. He is both knowledgeable and enthusiastic - his tests are remarkably easy if you go online periodically.
Prof is very excentric. Class is quite boring. However, all notes are posted online (WebCT) and the exams are multiple choice. Be ready for strange references to Cake and Sausage... he also enjoys spinning in order to immitate tornadoes and hurricanes. (Final was 140 MC questions worth 70% of the final mark!) :S
well. lets see here. You might want to take this class, if you enjoy classes that have an average of 85 with 450 people in it- on the curve. Sound good? Or,the fact that the exams test your ability to go to his web ct and memorize some practice questions.. really interesting class. may as well buy the text and not take the class, you will learn mor
strange class...really BORING. I only could stand to attend about 4 lectures, but his WEBCT notes helped me learn a TON. Exams were worth alot but relatively easy. Should have had TWO midterms and a final.
This class is honestly a joke. The midterm/final questions are either straight from the practice questions, or obscure knowledge that you guess at. I stopped going to class after the midterm and I actually did better on the final. Just sleep in, memorize Web CT, and you'll get the easiest A of your life. Class is seriously totally pointless.
Classes are boring and rather pointless. Only one midterm worth 30% and the final is worth 70% which is pretty harsh. If you read the power point notes and the text getting an A is easy.
Excellent prof! Funny and clearly remembers what its like to be a student. For exams, just study the sample questions and he repeats midterm questions on finals!
He is kind of crazy, but I thought he was interesting because he was so crazy. He tells you what you need to know and his practices exams are nearly identical to the real exam. It was unfair to those who attended class, but a good GPA booster.
He's amusing (spinning around a chair to imitate a tornado?), but sometimes he's kind of hard to understand. His second midterm/final are harder than expected (63% average on the former), but if you study, you should get an OK grade (like A- and higher)
I took this class because I was really interested in the topic, not because I was hoping for an easy A. However, I was very disappointed. Tests were inconsistent - either lots of comprehension or lots of irrelevant trivia. Class itself was very boring. Only plus is that he reuses ALOT of midterm questions. Not recommended.
Hilarious guy, but I couldn't stand his lectures. Let's put it this way - I attended no lectures, and did *not* buy the textbook, and got a B- for a grade. Easiest 200-level science course EVER. Perfect for Arts students who hate science (no lab!) and apathetic people.
This guys is awesome. i love his passion for violent weather. his classes were really interesting though not mandatory. his exams were really easy and there are no assignments. definately recommend this class to anyone, it was the highlight of my semester.
For all of you who said this class was soo easy, either you are science talented people, or he made his class harder recently. I am quite studious, I attend class, do the readings, study, and even visit the TA for occaisional help, and I STILL found the exams challenging. (Ed. Student)
Seriously, I took this course hoping it would be easy A cause I needed the GPA boost.But. I found the lectures quite boring and sometimes not really understandable and just. Exams were not as easy as people claim. I think he increased the diffuculty seeing as how other people have commented how easy this course is. (FYI I am a Science student)
Such a nice man. So funny and enthusiastic..however, although I attended every class...i didnt need to..studying for the final was like teaching myself everything from scratch...the guy is hard to understand and goes off on useless tangents. I love him though!
Such a disappointment. Very interested in the subject prior to attending his class. Class was boring, repetitive & didn't add anything to his posted notes. Stopped showing up after the midterm, just read his notes.
Class was rather tedious, though if you listen to him he's got a sense of humor. Not necessary to go to class, though interesting videos shown. On midterm and final adds in questions that he never included in lecture or notes. Used almost all the practice MC in actual tests. The midterm was 30%, final 70%. Good class overall but tricky tests now!
Lol lectures were a total joke. Studying included memorizing his practice MC questions (which were used word for word on the actual tests) and trying to memorize as much random trivia as possible from his notes.
Very very boring lectures. THe lectures are not mandatory at all as he posts all his notes online as PPT. I stopped going to class after the first 2 weeks and managed to get a B+. Tests are NOT SUPER easy however, almost all practice questions are reused so MEMORIZE those. However alot of random trivia tends to show up which is hard to prepare for.
Reuter knows his stuff and is always willing to help. His ideas and how they are conveyed are fuzzy at times..but can be so humerous that they stick in your mind forever. good class & good proff.
Was interested in taking this class, but sadly my hopes were destroyed. Material was boring, but at least lots of the practice MC are on the tests. He is a nice guy though and sort of makes up for the material with videos and (slightly awkward) demonstrations.
Dr. Reuter is a nice guy, but not a very good teacher. Disorganized notes, scattered information and confusing information made this class frustrating. Aside from the MC practice Q's that were on every test, some questions required knowledge we did not discuss. Studying felt ineffective as you cannot be sure what random information you have to know
Not as easy a class I would have hoped, but still not too bad. Definately make use of the practice MC questions he supplies you with: they often show up on tests. Lectures a bit dry and not totally mandatory since his online notes are identical to his class once. Still, if you need a science class with no lab, take this one.
What a useless class. Awful tests, horrible notes, and pointless lectures. I do not recommend this class. It is a complete waste if time.
this class actually took up more of my time than i was expecting it to. there is a lot of material to cover for each exam. the information is relatively easy to understand it just takes time. lectures are not very necessary since everything is online. overall it was a good class.
BORING!! He just drones on and on... first thing in the morning and i already wanted to bash my own head in. Don't bother going to class he posts everything online. For exams memorize the example questions he puts up. They're ALL on the exam.
Easy class if you want B/B+, not so easy class if you want A/A+. I study about 3-4 days for an exam and for his class I studied 3-4 days yet even if studied a 99 days i still would not be able to get some of the questions on this guys exams, I have no clue where some of these questions even came from and I went to every class. 1 word: Frustrating
Changes 4/50 questions on his exams from previous years. Has formatting errors on his exams that let you see the correct answer (wrong font/ extra spaces). Uses all his questions from eclass practice sets. Easy A+ for people who study SMART. But nerds/ people who try to study the actual material instead of memorizing trivia might struggle with this
Not as easy as I was expecting it to be. Memorize the practice questions from eClass, about 80% show up again on his exams, but for some questions I had no idea where they came from. His class is entertaining, especially when he spins around in a circle pretending to be a tornado. At times boring but overall not too bad. I recommend this class.
Awful professor. Evaluates you on the driest material and doesn't even bother to proofread his exams. This class really could have used a lab to make it more interesting. You have to be a really bad prof if you can't make tornadoes interesting 0_o
Echoing what everyone else said, this class is a joke and skippable if you just need a B/B+, but is hard to get an A or higher in. Do practice questions, memorize facts, and hope for the best. Skipped every class since first midterm and walked out of final with a B+. His lectures were alright, but this class could have been so much better.
Very Easy to get a good mark. Just read lecture notes and do practice samples and get a A-.
Not a huge fan of Gerhard, the tests were stupid and on the final he repeated like 5 questions. To get a decent grade just read over the practise multiple choice he puts up because they are the exact same. But if possible steer away from this prof.
Gerhard not provide CONSTRUCTIVE comments. It's very annoying.
I took this class expecting it to be easy, but its a difficult class, the teacher is not clear and has awkward demonstrations, the exams are more like trivia and some questions are not even in the text or notes. Very confusing over all and boring, i was looking forward to such an interesting class, but try and avoid this one there are better option
Easy class, just memorize practice questions and guaranteed a B+. Lectures are boring but if you just need a science class I would suggest this. No need to attend, just memorize and your fine.
I heard this was an easy class, but if you aren't a science student and don't have THAT much background in science classes it's hard! His exams are EXTREMELY trivial and detail oriented it's so frustrating, more trivia than content tested. And his wording of questions makes tests more confusing. Lecture is crazy boring, avoid if you can. Regret.
Over all, I was very disappointed in this class. Tests were awful. Although he uses some questions off the practice tests, the other questions are confusing and random. I would not recommend someone without any knowledge of the subject to take this course, or someone one looking to boost their GPA. Dull class, awful tests, and a mediocre prof.
This is not a GPA booster class, it probably changed from the past. You have to memorize every single thing, be prepared for some random calculations & hoping for the best. Class average after the final is 2.6. Most of those who don't come to class will rely on practice questions but these are only used for a very small portion of the exams.
Showed up to 2 classes, just did his practice questions and read the textbook sections he posted up (NOT his slides, which are all over the place). This is the easiest class I've ever taken, a definite GPA booster provided you know what to study. He is a nice prof though, pretty helpful outside of class.
Worst Professor ever. His exams included questions that required formula that are not taught in class, you need science background to understand some of the questions. Did not use a lot of his sample questions on this final. He is bad at explaining concept which really made the class even worse. Avoid him
GET READY TO TEACH YOURSELF THE CLASS! STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND!!! HE TRIES TO TEACH BUT HE CAN'T!!!! HE IS LIKE A TAPE RECORDER, HE PAUSES AT THE END OF ONE LECTURE AND STARTS EXACTLY FROM THE SAME PLACE HE WAS LAST LECTURE...PAUSE AT "AND THEN WE," AND CONTINUES NEXT CLASS WITH, "WILL DO SOME RANDOM CALCULATIONS!!!"
He does not know how to teach..that is the main problem here! 80% of exam material is from the finest details from the book. Avoid at all cost!
Worst professor ever! 80% of exam material is from the finest details from the book. Avoid at all cost!

I am in my last semester of University with a 4.0 GPA and this is the first course I've run across that I will be dropping. Just wrote the first mid-term and it did not cover many of the main ideas; instead asked for trivial details contained in the copious amounts of reading material. I haven't missed a class and it hasn't helped. Don't do it..
terrible prof
AVOID AVOID AVOID possibly worst professor I have had through university. He tested on details not covered in lecture or textbook on his 50 question midterm he pulled 20 of them out of no where and were vigorous calculations not covered in class. I enjoy violent weather but rambles in class on easy topics NOT covered on the midterm, disappointed.
Study EVERYTHING, don't go to class, pray to god, and hope for the best.
Get your hands on old exams because they are 100% the same from year to year. easy A if you have it, easy B if you dont. I dont know why these ratings are so poor!
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOIDDDD
Probably the worst prof I had in my entire 4 years of university. His lecture is useless so don't go. I actually did go until the first midterm and than didn't go to a single lecture until the second midterm. Did better on second midterm than the first. Also, he expects memorization to the last detail including numbers. Just terrible.
Dont listen to what all the negative people are saying. Just find the midterms online. They are exactly the same and will make this course one of the easiest you have ever taken. Do study for it since he does change some stuff up but overall HUGE gpa booster
Never went to class. Midterms 80% same as old midterms. Calculations mostly easy. Most numbers you need to memorize are in his slides. The exam is exactly like the practice multiple choice, and questions on old material are repeated from the midterms.
Only went to the first 4 classes, never showed up after that. People who say he's hard don't have the exams. Just find previous year's exams, memorize the answers, then just memorize numbers from his notes to answer the 6 questions or so that he changes. Guaranteed A+. Useless class. Didn't learn anything.
Completely horrible. Lectures were boring and useless. Midterms and final were extremely complicated and went far beyond what was taught. Things showed up that hadn't been discussed at all. Do not take anything with him.
Would jump off a bridge before taking this course with him again...I didn't listen AVOID AVOID AVOID take anything else!!! This is not a GPA booster studying is useless its whoever guesses more questions right on his multiple choice final and who has access to his old midterms and who guess the 10 questions he changes on his midterms!!
EAS 429 was a 2 week practical with Environment Canada and Dr. Reuter was co-prof. The course mostly involved drawing weather maps and analyzing what we saw, and weather briefings. No exams. He was helpful even though there wasn't a lot of 'instruction' per say. Great daily weather discussions/observations. Fun/relaxed atmosphere (no pun intended).
Had him as a personal advisor. PROVIDES UNCONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM (aka one does not learn from a line beside a paragraph without comments). Does not take the time to TEACH students skills necessary in the field of atmospheric sciences.
Dr. Reuter has long, disorganized lectures. Some material is irrelevant to the course. Midterm and final aren't too bad, but some parts of the 4 labs were tedious. Very inconsistent marking, and doesn't care about students not using citations. Fairly low standards, and made a cool topic boring. Was funny without meaning to be. Not recommended.
Dr. Reuter was a nice guy outside of class. He'll help you if you go to his office hour. But pretty bad as a lecturer. Exams are 80% based on textbook, with the tiniest details. Don't have to go to class at all. Honestly, I don't know how people are doing well. This class was not a GPA booster for me.
During his lectures, he talks about really random topics that don't really pertain to the tested material and jumps around the room a lot, which can be distracting. The information that is tested is not taught in lecture, so read the textbook. I basically had to teach myself everything. If you can find old tests of his it is extremely helpful!
Easy Class
Shockingly bad
Worst teacher I've ever had.
Save yourself the trouble and take literally any other course than this garbage. The exams consist of random stuff he pulls out of nowhere and little details in the text rather than large concepts. The worst instructor I have ever had the misfortune of coming across.
Steer clear of this class if you care about your GPA. This class is apparently very easy if you have the midterms from previous years but if you don't, you will not do well even if you put in the work. In short, DO NOT TOUCH THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE PREVIOUS MIDTERMS!!!
By far the worst class I've taken in my life. The prof might as well not exist because he is the worst instructor on the face of the earth. Tests on concepts that weren't seen at all in the textbook or his awful powerpoints. So bad, can't stress that enough. Absolute trash.
Honestly, if you dont have the old exams this will be a very hard class. He is not a good prof. If you dont have the old exams, i strongly recommend not to take this class. I got a good mark but had i not had the old exams, i probably would have failed.
Save your GPA and take another class. You may do well if you can memorize every single detail in the textbook and notes. But like previous comments, without the old exams you're screwed. Old exams help but theres a chance he could totally change the exam and put all new questions. Every yr he changes about 10 ish questions from the previous yr.
