attendance optional, got a B
Not easy to understand what this man is talking about! It is also hard to read his handwriting. He does drop the lowest test score, which helps a lot
Pretty confusing class. Things he goes over in class don't really seem to relate. Has weekly study sessions, which help a lot if you go. He's good about helping you if you need it.
If you want an A in PChem you'd better take it will Dr. Mills.
VERY manageable syllabus. He is very clear and is able to test properly and give us enough time to abosorb. Study sessions helped and his weekly quizzes helped pull my grade up. Attendance is optional as well. Overall this is the guy for an A with hard wo
very hard to understand , studied on my own to make a B.
Good teacher. Nice guy outside of class. Very helpful. Lets you bring equation sheets to tests.
Great teacher!! need to study but he is always willing to help. very nice prof.!!
usually the words good, chemistry, and professor don't really belong together it seems, but this guy really deserves it. He'll walk out on a limb for you if you're willing to walk with him. tests are hard, but he really loves teaching, which can be rare.
Great teacher. knows his stuff and is always willing to help.
may not get an 'a' but guy cares about teaching and will be there for you.
i LOVE dr. mills. He is awesome. His tests are soooo hard, but he's a fantastic teacher. if you're having any trouble GO SEE HIM. EARLY. The best teacher ive ever had!!
very good teacher, and very entertaining
Man I love him. You'll never find a professor this easy going and fun. i would take him again in a heart beat!
I don't understand what he is teaching. His class has made me rethink my major. He doesn't explain very well and his tests have nothing to do with what he is teaching or the homework.
Very good teacher!! My favorite he's so funny!! i hope to have him for chem1040.
dr. mills is the COOOOOOOLEST. I can't even say enough awesome things about him. I'm not chemistry smart or math smart, and I failed the first time, but he helped me every step of the way as my 2nd teacher. I LOVE HIM!!
Great teacher, very funny! I am not good at chem, but he makes it interesting and easy to understand. His tests are hard, but if you study, they are simple and direct. He gives study sessions for the HW he gives, also. TAKE DR. MILLS! :)
Great teacher with lots of enthusiasm. Very funny and makes things interesting. Gives help sessions on the homework he assigns. Definitely recommend taking his class.
Make sure you can do the Homework. His Tests come from the Homework.
He is the cooooooolest prof ever! He makes class fun to go to and uses real life examples. He is amazing and explains many things clearly. As long as you attend the homework sessions, do the homework, and pay attention in class you have an easy A. Too bad he's not teaching CHEM 1040!
awesome teacher.
Dont be so quick to belive these ratings- yes he is a very nice teacher and helpful- but I did great in Honors Chem is High School- nothingh like it and not doig so hot in this class. Do problems from the book along with the homework.
great prof! not an easy class but he is very very helpful and if you study and attend his help sessions you will do well. i would take him again in a heartbeat!
He is an ok teacher but hard to understand.Sit near the front if you can because you'll be more likely to pay attention.Do all the homework,go to all the help sessions and e-mail him if you have a problem. He's pretty funny if you know what he's talking about, but the class is somewhat difficult.
best prof i ever had. he really cares about the students and is so very helpful. awesome teachre.
Tests are vVERY hard but if you want help you can get it. He makes as much time for you as you need. Very helpful teacher - I learned a lot.
This class is very hard, you really have to work at it and do all the problems including any extra you can find, sit up the front as your more likely to pay attention.
superb teacher. it's a hard class but he is very helpful. go to his help sessions. take him.
He is one of the best teachers at AU. His class is challenging, but he is there to help you when you need it. He is very knowledgeable, and funny too. definitely take him.
Dr. Mills is just awesome.
GREAT TEACHER!!!
Dr. Mills is awesome. He is a great teacher... BUT.. Don't let that fool you! You HAVE to study for his class because, let me tell you, his tests and quizes are killers! He gives you the grade that you deserve... I studied my butt off in there and came out with an A. It is possible!
He was very hard. There is really no need to go to the class. You have to go to homework reviews or you will be LOST on the test because all it is is math. All I have to say is good luck with this one!
REMEMBER. STUDY NOTES FOR QUIZES. STUDY HOMEWORK FOR TEST. Dr.Mills uses his definitions and notes for quizes but only really does problems for test. I found this out right before the final exam. However, he substitutes your worst exam grade for your final so I made a B in the class.
GO TO THE STUDY SESSIONS! His tests are hard, so make sure you can do all the homework problems. Study his notes for the quizzes. You can take a highlighter to class, and just highlight everything he writes on the board. Those notes are written word for word in the book. An A is possible with work!
I LOVE DR. MILLS! i had him for chem 2 last year but i still love him. he's awesome and will help you SO much as long as you're willing to put effort in. i HATE chemistry, and he's still the best teacher i've ever had.
He's great. Like most people, I'm not a chemistry fan, but he made it bearable.
truly one of auburn's BEST teachers.
Dr. Mills' teaching and testing style didn't work for me, but in general he's helpful. I went to class every day and attended the SI sessions, but it didn't work out. Make sure to pay attention, do the exercises, read the book, and attend SI. Basically, keep up. DON'T skip class. If you have a problem understanding something, talk to him ASAP.
dr. mills is a great teacher. hard class but helps you out a lot. take him.
His tests are extremely hard. I went to every class and every study session and read all the chapters and still didnt do well in the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! His tests dont come from the material, he expects too much from you.
Dr. Mills is hilarious, and he really knows his stuff. His tests are a bit tricky tho.
Great guy. You'll have to work hard to get an A, but you can do it. He drops your lowest test and replaces it with the final (which is not cumulative). How amazing is that? He's really cool too, get to know him!
His class is hard, even if you always go to class, BUT his study sessions are a big help and he will do everything he can to help you bring up your grade... I had a 28 average going into the final and I came out with a C.
A very tough, but great, teacher. Just be willing to do the work and he will reward you. I never made higher than a 78 on any test, had a 95 quiz average, and ended up with an A.
Best instructor for PChem. He has funny anecdotes to keep you interested, and is personable. Homework is optional, has solution sessions. Tests are exactly like homework problems. No tricks! He even gives hints during exams! Book not necessary.
Dr. Mills is awesome. He's very funny and entertaining, but he's also really good at explaining and keeping a train of thought. Overall one of my favorite Chemistry teachers. He's also very dedicated; he spends as much time out of class (help sessions) as his students need.
I agree with the last comment. Dr. Mills is very helpful, his class is hard but he cares to help as much as possible.
Class isn't mandatory. Lectures don't pertain to the actual test material. The most useful thing to do is attend his homework sessions because that's what his tests are like. Don't get that much out of class, but he is very helpful. Tests are hard! So study for them, but he's one of the better Chem II teachers.
He is an entertaining teacher, and helpful sometimes. He doesn't use Blackboard at all or give back tests/quizes in class. That really bothers me because I could not calculate my grade during the semester. Also, his class is really hard because he is preparing you for Organic. It sucks if you don't have to take organic but still have to suffer.
Dr. Mills is an entertaining professor that wants his students to pass. He gives a really hard first test in order to weed people out of the class. His second test was much easier and the final was not comprehensive. This is probably the best Chem professor. This is not a class u can just do well in without studying because Chem is a hard course!!!
Mills is a pretty hard professor. I taught myself everything and never made above a D on the first two tests. I ended up with a B because I did well on the final. Just do his homework and work problems in the book. Going to class is pointless.
Dr. Mills...I love him! Of course the class is hard, b/c it is chemistry. However,if you study hard you will make an A or B. He is absolutly the funniest professor ever. He tries to relate to the students in every lecture, and he uses really funny examples in explaining stuff. Go to the homework sessions & work some book problems & you will be fine.
All-around great guy! He's very willing to address any concern you have, without hesitation. You can make an A/B if your willing to go the extra mile! Your total grade is based on 2 tests, 4 quizes & the final. STUDY for the tests b/c they are very challenging! Old exams help but dont rely on those alone. Put in the time & effort & u'll be fine!
Absolutely the most hilarious professor ever. He keeps the class entertaining, and is a good teacher as well. The work is very doable, but you have to keep up as it goes along. Cramming the night before the test doesn't work with him. Old tests help, but won't give you an A. Quizzes are free points if you study your notes for a little bit.
He is a nice guy and likes to teach his subject, my problem was that he only did examples in the review sessions outside of class and he wrote out every step, so a 4 step problem became a page and a half of work that was hard to follow later.
He expects a lot out of you, but if you are planning to take Organic get used to it because he is doing a great job of preparing you for the real deal. He was extremely helpful in office hours, and his weekly help sessions are a MUST. Don't let the first test scare you off, that's what he wants. He really is a funny guy once you warm up to him!
What a funny guy! He really cares about his students, and seems to love what he does for a living. He's really helpful if you go to his office hours. I found his tests/quizzes to be rather difficult, but once I found old tests to use as a study aid, I was golden. Don't drop after the first test! They get easier, promise.
He doesn't give ANY example problems in class, so you have to go to his review sessions to get the solutions to his optional homework. Do the homework: the test questions are very similar. Old tests also help to study from.
Def. a hard class but he is VERY Fair! you have to go the extra mile and come on ppl go to class! drops lowest test grade and quizzes average to be a test grade (quizzes are easy). Final is much easier. I got D's on tests, C on the final, and made a B in the class. HATE chem but he scales, hence, he is worth taking.
So entertaining & one of the best chem teachers! Not to mention the most helpful & dedicated! He wants his students to learn! Prepare for the quizzes (just read over notes). His tests are 100% problems so go to the help sessions & be sure to do book problems (at least one test question is from the book) & take advantage of office hours. LOVED HIM!
Dr. Mills is a great teacher. Be prepared to read the book and do the work in the book. There are free solutions online. Can be confusing at times and unapproachable. He grades pretty fair, but he does count off for minor mistakes. Be ready to make assumptions based on previous knowledge and common sense.
Dr. Mills is a great professor and genuinely wants to see his students do well. However, he isn't just going to give you free points. Do his homework problems and utilize his office hours. Probably one of the harder Freshman Chemistry professors, but you leave understanding the material. TAKE THE QUIZZES SERIOUSLY!
Dr. Mills is a fantastic teacher. He knows his stuff without a doubt. Want to make an A? Go to class and meticulously write notes. From that material, make your own practice quizzes on definitions and stuff and you'll ace his quizzes. For tests, practice all the math questions in the book and make sure to do the homework (go to review).
The class was pretty easy. You can do practice problems from the book and study the material and make an A. I did not like Professor Mills at all, though. He checks out female students constantly, and will stare at your chest if you ask him a question face-to-face. He also gets off topic too often, especially in his "help sessions."
Dr. Mills is the type of professor that if he knows you are struggling and you go to him for help, he will do everything he can do help you understand the material. I wasn't doing so great to begin with and I went to office hours and asked for help and he gave me book problems and made me bring them back to him to go over. He is a nice man.
Mills was an okay professor. I did not like the jokes he threw out, or how he did not use enough examples during class. He also got way off topic to much. Overall, just do the homework and ask for help and you should pass.
He was a great teacher, and made the class very interesting. His test were really hard. Go to SI sessions and do the homeworks he gives out and you'll get a good grade.
horrible teacher do not take . test are hard. and He has a bad attitude!
Mills is a pretty good professor. He offers review sessions after class which are basically your next exam. Very willing to work with you and clear up concepts. He tries to keep lecture interesting and is a funny man. His grading is slow (very slow) but fair. Tests are challenging but keep doing the work and you can easily make a B.
3 tests and a final, drops your lowest test. Lecture is all deriving equations and he goes off on tangents a lot, but he doesn't follow the book at all so if you miss class you need to get the notes from someone. Allows as many equations sheets as you need on tests. Optional homework with review sessions every week and an extra session before tests
Dr. Mills is a great professor. I really had a great time working with him. He is somebody who goes out his way to help students. His exams are tough but if you know the material you can easily get an A.
2 Tests, test one was over 10 chapters. You can barely understand him and his understanding of the material is mediocre at best. He constantly reminds us he has never taught the class and it shows in his teaching. Consistently makes strange examples of the materials.
There are two tests, and so far no mention of extra credit. You do not need to go to class, he posts his powerpoint online which are more helpful then his lectures. He is quite funny, but still this class stressed me out. Unclear about what will be on tests, which left us having to study 10 chapters. Also he did not give formulas for the tests.
DO NOT TAKE FOR CONCEPTS OF SCIENCE! TERRIBLE TEACHER
Worst choice I've ever made in taking a class. He told us he's never taught concepts before and it's very clear in all of his lectures. Super thick accent and just a weird guy overall. Grades are literally just the midterm, final, lab grade, and a few quizzes. Take a different science class or at least a different teacher.
HORRIBLE CONCEPTS TEACHER only understands chemistry. rants that don't have to do with class. funny but not worth taking. 5 quizzes 2 tests thats it. unclear what will be on test. someone complained that the test was too easy (if you're the one who said that you are the worst kind of person 1-10 would not recommend) so he made the final harder.
THIS IS A CONCEPTS OF SCIENCE CLASS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. He makes this class so much harder than need be and he NEVER puts grades in. Good luck sitting though his lectures he doesn't teach whats so ever and just reads straight from the powerpoint. Also if you go to him don't expect help. Auburn shouldn't have him teach concepts. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
DO not take him. All he does is read off the powerpoint and he has a strong accent so you can't really understand him. There are only two tests... the midterm and the final. The other grades are 4 quizzes so if you do bad on anything you're screwed. He is boring. Take someone else if you can.
He puts every powerpoint online so you don't need to go to class. Class is a waste of time. You can barely understand him and he sucks at teaching. The quizzes are not bad because you can just google the answers but the tests are hard. No study guide, and very unclear of what will be on the test. 2 tests, 5 quizzes, drops lowest quiz.
Dr. Mills is genuinely a good guy but doesn't know what he's doing teaching CHEM1030. He hasn't taught it in about a decade and somehow ended up being my professor for this course. There were 3 tests total-including the final. Aleks a joke in this class and his lectures are hard to follow. If you end up with Mills, get a tutor if you want to pass
Dr. Mills is a really funny guy but you won't pass if you just tune into the lectures and hope for the best. I recommend taking full advantage of Student Tutoring sessions and using the online textbook resources and homework, even though Dr. Mills doesn't grade or require them. He is pretty unpredictable about when he'll give a test or quiz.
I LOVE Dr. Mills. A genuinely nice guy and seems to really care for his students. His exams are reallly important but the lowest exam grade gets replaced by the final if you do better. Also he has 6 quizzes but drops the lowest 2. His exams are pretty difficult but not impossible. Quizzes are not bad at all. I am taking him again for CHEM 2.
Dr. Mills was awesome. His class was all online but it was great. He made the zooms fun with his dogs and constant "Sorry!". The quizzes are not too difficult and neither are the tests. Just pay attention in class, go back through the PDF for notes or look on the textbook(not required but his lectures are from the book). Awesome teacher!
This class is super easy if you use all of the resources offered (SI sessions, review sessions, make-up tests, etc). He is a little technology-challenged so with this class being online, he struggles to work out problems over zoom-But the SI sessions make up for it. I definitely plan to take him for CHEM 1040.
Mills is definitely not the worst chemistry teacher out there, but I pretty much taught myself most of the information. He has lectures, but I ended up either not going at all or playing it in the background. If you read the textbook and do practice problems you can make a good grade, but if you like someone to teach you look into someone else.
Lectures are boring and are pretty much a waste of time. Just read the book and do practice problems and you'll do fine. He does a pretty bad job of preparing you for the ACS final. 4 exams (including the final) and a few quizzes make up your grade. The number of quizzes varies depending on Mills's time management skills.
I rarely attended lectures, he goes on tangents and the example problems he does are confusing. So far have made A's on all the tests. I suggest reading the book and doing the practice problems from SI. No homework. A couple of quizzes, and if there are enough he'll drop some. Not entirely sure if he's prepared us well for the ACS though.
This class is entirely lectures. Could be between 1-3 pages of notes per class. Just very disorganized and hard to understand. The best thing I did was use the textbook and the SI sessions. Tests weren't too difficult as long as you study the textbook and not the lectures. Did not feel prepared for the ACS exam.
Dr. Mill's class is easy if you do everything but pay attention to the lectures. Read the book, go to SI, and do practice problems. Mills is an overall frustrating prof but his tests are generally easy. He absolutely does not prepare you for the final. No extra credit. Drops lowest 2 quizzes.
Lecture and tests were horrible and he didnt prepare us for the ACS final at all. HOWEVER, he curved our final grades heavily at the end of the semester. Be sure to read the textbook/powerpoint slides and attend SI sessions if you want a chance to pass this class or else your screwed.
6 Quizzes, 3 Exams, and the ACS Final. Do well on those and you'll have a good grade. Tests are a little tricky at times but he gives tons of resources to do well in the class. Goto lecture, take notes and use the resources and you'll be just fine.
Does not like the textbook, hard to copy down notes because you go through material fast, and does not post personal power point until after done lecturing on chapter.
Lectures are useless to go to, he posts the slides on canvas and going through those does just as well as going to the lectures. The lectures don't prepare you for the tests at all so you HAVE to go to SI sessions to be prepared. Learn concepts and know the math questions. There aren't many options for chem 2 professors, so go to SI and good luck.
Mills is a good guy, but terrible teacher. He is disorganized and doesnt plan out the year well. We spent the first two months on states of matter, and then had to squeeze 4 units into a month. Its fast paced now, but with better planing it didnt have to be. Its a fun class and he is very easy to talk to, but I dont know whats going on.
I took the online option for this course. His tests are mostly conceptual with only a few math problems. The conceptual questions aren't too detailed or too in-depth. As long as you know study his lecture ppts and know the concepts, you'll do fine. You are graded by only a few things, but other than that, I don't know why he has such a low rating.
Didn't like how he posted the powerpoint slides after he finished lectures when its an asynchronous class.
This class had very bad accommodations. The only way to study is through the slideshows that are posted and his lectures are filled with him going off on tangents about irrelevant things. He did not offer SI sessions or other types of outside study sources. The only grades are on quizzes/tests. If you have any other choice, do not take this class.
I am generally a good student and was good at chem 1030 so I took professor Mills online chem class. Worst decision I have ever made. He has four tests and the questions are terribly worded. He gives quizzes but they barely affect your grade. DO NOT take this class if you have any other choice. You will thank me later <3 Cheers to my first C!
Dr. Mills is a terrible lecturer. At the start, he took his time, but we got behind and then he went so fast no one could take notes. His exams were worded to trick you and often included very hard calculations that weren't shown in class. With that being said, he is hilarious and made going to class fun. He seems to be genuinely a nice guy.
Dr. Mills genuinely doesn't know what he is doing half of the time. Most students find themselves teaching themselves all of the material through the online homework system (ALEKS) which gets annoying. It is a hard class but Dr. Mills makes it harder. The tests aren't too bad but there are only 4 grades in the class.
The course content is not hard, Dr. Mills is just not a nice person. He is the least understanding and compassionate professor I have ever dealt with. He spends a good portion of class insulting the students and the rest rambling through poorly put-together powerpoints. Save yourself the migraine and take someone who has SI sessions available.
Dr. Mills made me love him & hate him. He is a hilarious guy & tries to make the lectures fun. He is very intelligent, but just reads powerpoints rather than teaching the material. There are four tests that he makes & homework that will count as a fifth test grade. I had a hard time trying to make an A, but he helped me get there bc he is available
Professor Mills class was really entertaining although frustrating. At the beginning of the semester he tried lecturing using the whiteboard but that went poorly. Then he just read off of his powerpoint slides. As long as you read the textbook and can do the practice problems in all chapters youll be fine.
Can be disorganized in his teaching style approach -- switched from written notes to PowerPoints a month in, which was a tough shift. He will be very flexible with the homework deadlines, just ask him to move it. Tests were all multiple choice, which is uncommon for a chem class, and you NEED to study for them. Overall a funny and well-meaning guy.
He was an amazingly nice and personable professor. He was very understanding about homework and test grievances. His lectures were very disorganized and not informative. The class was very easy and laid back, and cconsequently did not prepare me for Chem 2. His tests were ONLY multiple choice, so it was very easy to fail them.
He was a funny man but he probably didn't mean to be funny. Only four exam grades the whole semester. Tests were hard and all multiple choice. He just read off the PowerPoint slides. He made me uncomfortable sometimes. If you study and try hard you'll make a good grade
Professor Mills was a funny guy who is very knowledgeable about anything Chemistry. That can be a problem though, because during his lectures he loves to go off talking about something unrelated. As long as you do all of the homeworks and do what all you can to prepare for the tests, you'll be fine.
Dr Mills is a great person, but not the best professor... he does not really teach. We are graded by very few things, and this class is SUPER hard but I also am bad at chemistry so I do not think that it will go well with any other professor. I would totally stay away from Dr Mills and choose Prado or Chrisostomo!
(Revised) I sat down and talked with him about what I was struggling with, which I frankly should have done in the first place. He's actually very sweet, and he really helped me prepare for the final. I did wind up with an A in the class, and I would recommend him, especially if you are willing to go talk if you're having problems.
He genuinely is a sweet guy but is a terrible teacher. I had to teach myself everything off of the slideshows which are much longer and more in-depth than any of the exams. When I emailed him about extra credit or advice about how to study better he wasn't very helpful. He is a very 'the grade you get is the grade you get' kind of guy.
