Great class, enthusiastic professor, funny, very knowledgeable, clear on his explanations, and showed real care for the students. On the down side, the exams were a bit on the hard side. Overall one of the best professors at UTEP.
Dr. Rosas-acosta has been a very good instructor. He keeps the lectures interesting and relevant. He has been, by far, one of the better instructors at UTEP. His passion for his work is evident.
Class is very interesting, well organized and the professor as has been stated is one of the best professors I have met at UTEP. His explanations are clear and very helpful in understanding the subject. Also keeps the class interesting which makes it more enjoyable to attend.
Dr. Rosas is energetic and knows the material extremely wel.
You can tell that he loves to teach, loves green tea, and likes trying to get us to laugh.
Great class, great instructor. The material is very difficult, and his exams are tough, but as he mentioned in class, "you will learn to pass the mCAT." The lectures are lengthy and detailed but serve the purpose to thoroughly learn and explore molecular cell biology. Be prepared to study A LOT.
One of the BEST if not the best professor at UTEP. Knowledgeable, truly cares about his students, enthusiastic. Breaks down complex processes and concepts. What I like most is that he challenges us. He has the highest standards and expects nothing but the best from us.
He is very passionate about the subject matter at hand and that comes across in his lectures. By far one of the best lecturers at UTEP. Although the subject is difficult, with hard work and determination, there is plenty of opportunity to do well in this class. The textbook can be a blur of the alphabet but really focus on the lectures.
I enjoyed the class activity even though they were hard at times but they were helpful in understanding the material. The test i found them difficult because i felt like they were trick question cause I struggled to figure out which was the better answer.
I like the class... The only problem I ran into was Rosas-Acosta not replying to emails. I don't like feeling my professor doesn't care. Other than that I though he tried to make the point across clearly but FAST. I really learned a lot and enjoyed the class.
One of the best and most challenging courses I've had in a long time. Although it may be a difficult course, it is not an impossible course. There are plenty of opportunities to do well in the class if you try. If you're interested in learning anything at all, this is the professor to go to.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is one of the best professors I have ever had in my entire college career. He truly cares about his students and is willing to help you in any struggles that you encounter with in the class. His tests are challenging, but he prepares you exceptionally well for them. Taking his class is the best experience you will have!
A difficult class. Take good notes of everything he says, and use those to study for exams. Book helps, but wont give you all you need. But is helpful to read when lost in a subject. Cares for students, and gives lots of extra points to give you better chances of an A. I had to work hard, but now I feel I actually learned. Thanks Dr. Rosas-Acosta!
It is imperative that you have a solid foundation in protein synthesis and a few basic biological concepts such as the cell cylce. The tempo of the lecture can sometimes go pretty fast. Nevertheless, he breaks down concepts very well and is one of the best lecturers I've ever had. Although it is not a course to slack off in by any means.
Awesome class, he loves teaching and makes sure you understand. Very hard class if you do not attend every day. Easily one of the best professors I have had, only have three.
great teacher and very clear but must study for his tests
Great instructor and class. Challenging course but professor made it fun, and cared to teach the subject a great deal. Would highly recommend it to those who want to be well prepared for future courses.
he's very helpful. had to use iclicker for class and we actually use it. drops a couple of quiz grades. Overall a great professor
I love Dr. Rosas-Acosta! His exams are super hard, you will need to read and go over his slides. If you visit him or make an appointment he will explain everything and wont let you leave until you understand! He is a very passionate professor, and super fun!
The class is hard but he is a very passionate professor, very smart, and he makes the class fun. Dr. Rosas-Acosta is a true role model!
He is a total role model class is worth it in every way
Without a doubt Dr. Rosas-Acosta has been the best professor I have taken at UTEP. I learned so much! What sets this professor apart from all others is his passion for the subject and his ability to have a positive impact on the lives of his students. It has truly been an honor to take a course taught by him.
Excellent Professor. Uses all aspects of technology to teach to this generation. Truly cares about the student grades and well being. Engaging and motivational.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is a great professor!! He cares about teaching and about his students actually learning. He also motivates you... a lot! Loved his class :).
The best teacher Ive had a UTEP hands down! You will learn so much! Test are hard but he gives sooo much extra credit that it is an easy A.
The teacher is very nice and cool. He makes a lot of jokes and has an easy accent (since some teachers' accents are hard to understand). He uses the iclickers so that's why attendance is mandatory. His lectures are interactive and not boring. He gives you a lot of chances to get extra credit points and such, so I'm expecting an A on this class.
The best biology teacher I have ever had. Extremely passionate , and very energetic. A very challenging class, but extremely satisfactory.
Great professor! I look forward to class, and enjoy going. I think he needs to have a class for other professors how to teach and help students learn and succeed. The class is challenging, lots of material given in class and online. However, there are many opportunities for extra credit.
makes some topics much easier to understand. His grading procedure is a bit tricky but he offers lots of extra points!
The lectures are clear and interesting. He obviously spends time making the class smooth and organized. All tests are very fair. He offers many chances for extra points. Do Not ask him for a letter of recommendation. He will have you write it for him to sign, but let you down the day it's due. No grudges.
His class is challenging but it is very simple. The way he covers the material is so easy to comprehend that makes the class easy. It does require comprehension, application and analysis of the material. One of the best professors this university has. Also he really helps you out if you really try hard you will get the A.
Great Professor, I wish all of the professors were like him. hard class but you will actually learn.
The best biology professor I've had!
I totally love him! Dr. Rosas Acosta is the best teacher i've ever had, his class is awesome, i actually enjoy going to class, he explains so well that makes you want to learn more!:)
Greatest Professor ever! You can tell he loves teaching and really cares about his students!
One of the best professors I have had! His willingness to help each student is amazing and his effort shows. He uses powerpoints and movies he made himself to help students study. He uses inclass activities for extra credit. The material is hard but with studying and attending each class it is possible to pass with a high grade.
Professor Rosas-Acosta is an amazing professor. He explains amazingly well, and helps you out alot. His class does go over alot, but he also gives you alot of chances to make up work. Highly recommend to take the class if he is the professor
Very interesting class I learned a lot and provided very informative videos
while not mandatory to show for class, it is a real good idea as he uses the i clicker pretty much each class. He explains the topic well and so as long as you pay attention and watch his movies you will do well in his class.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is the most helpful professor you will encounter at UTEP! He gives you many opportunities to do well in his class! He's laid-back and makes this subject interesting and enjoyable. This professor and this class is a must take!!
He is an excellent teacher and he gets you involved it the class. You dont have to go but its a great bonus points if you do. He sometimes posts stuff late but he will gives lots of chances to get an A.
good class, ask question when it comes to doubting, or even why things happens
Fantastic teacher. The class is a little hard sure, but the extra credit he gives out makes well up for it. Honestly the best teacher I have ever had. Great Personality and attitude to the class and students, and the lectures themselves are great. You're missing out if you decide not to take a class with him
He is a very good lecturer. Explains concepts as if it were a story, making it very easy to understand. He gives you every opportunity possible to get an A in this class. You have to try in order to not get an A in this class.
good teacher, if you follow instructions you will success
Try not to miss the rats , they are worth a lot on extra credit
I loved Rosas-acostas. he made the class so much fun and very interesting!
This class can be hard if you dont show up to class. He gives tons of extra credit during class and its pretty interesting. He is an interactive teacher and he challenges you to think critically about the concepts. He really tries to help you out. Its a great class. This is one of the best professors at UTEP. TAKE HIM.
Best professor i have taken. Class is hard but he makes it easy to understand. Take all rats, go to class, watch the movies and study for the tests. Tests are hard so study. Movies will help you a lot. Class is fun and interesting, you'll enjoy attending his lectures. GREAT PROFESSOR he's not like other professors at UTEP, he's way better. TAKE HIM
The class is indeed interesting and the teacher tries his best to make it so. Rosas is a good professor, and he makes it very easy for you to get an A.
Dr. Rosa Acosta is by far the best professor I've had at UTEP. He is very helpful and explains everything. You will actually want to attend his class because of all that you'll learn! I wish all of my professors taught like him. Study from the study guide and you'll do fine on the exams.
Knowledge. Is. Power. Best professor I have had!
He is really a good professor. Indeed knowledge is power.
I loved Dr.Rosas-Acosta. He is an excellent professor, the best professor I have had at UTEP. I really enjoyed this class and the way he taught it. He really cares about his students. -KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Excellent Professor. The best professor I've ever had at UTEP by far!
By far , the best class I have taken at UTEP.
Best teacher ever, pushes you to interact & learn. If you do the work you will do great. If you slack or are dumb AF then expect a low grade.
Excellent professor, this is a class you have to understand the material. Best class at UTEP by far.
He has been the most helpful and inspirational professor I have ever had. I have never felt more passionate about Biology until now. Best most interesting lectures ever and so willing to help if you ask for it. WATCH THE MOVIES HE POSTS! Attendance isn't mandatory but he has iClickers which will offer extra points so go to class!
Professors like him are why I enjoy coming to school, he is passionate about what he teaches and he gives every possible resource and opportunity for you to pass. You will learn a lot from him.
Great class and great professor! I definitely recommend taking him!
Excellent professor, I will definitely recommend him.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta seems passionate about DNA which helped keep my attention. He talks fast, so I got confused during lectures often, but he posts his lecture slides online. He asks in-class questions that you can gain extra credit by answering, so go to class. I had a hard time with the subject though and didn't learn as much as I would've liked.
He is an excellent professor however his class demands attention every day with rats, and reading pages
One of the best professors I have had. The material in this course is a lot and he manages to explain very well and be clear in all his lectures. Always gives students extra points and motivates his class to keep focused on the class. Be prepared to read, and to study for his exams because they are not easy if you are not prepared.
Professor Rosas exemplifies the meaning of behind being an educator. He cares not only about his studetn's success in class, but also the outlook of their future and lives as learners and citizens. Don't be lazy, read your book, participate in his activities in and out of class, and you will gain knowledge and respect for molecular biology.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is one of UTEP's great professors. He is motivated to get the class to learn by his passion he has for Biology, while still challenging you to do better. One of the best professors I've had so far, would definitely recommend.
It's a great class! Dr. Rosas-Acosta really makes an effort to inspire his students to keep on not only studying but enjoy while doing it. I really wish I had more professors like him or him teaching every subject. Not an easy class and not an easy grade but even if you fail it's worth the time.
He is by far the best professor at UTEP. Truly is an amazing professor who really cares about his students education.
It's easy you just have to participate and do all the extra stuff he asks you to do outside of class and that can be very time consuming.
His lectures are extremely detailed, organized and a pleasure to participate in (key word: participation). He also supplements these with vidoes that quite honestly make the book obsolete. He assigns quizzes on BB called reading assesment tests (RAT for short). You will take approx. 13-14 throughout the semester. Material is complex, so show up.
He is a good professor, he likes to help his students and is really patient. Be prepared to read and watch movies
Good professor but a hard class.
He is very helpful Has designed the class to be interactive and has recorded videos which condense the information very well. His tests are very good at testing what we have learned.
Amazing professor, it will be easy to pass his class, it will be easy to get the "100%" on his tests with all the easy extra credit he gives. It was however challenging attempting to get the actual 100% on his tests. For those of you who want an actual intellectual challenge without risking your GPA this class and professor have it for you.
Dr. Rosas Acosta is absolutely amazing! You do have to read, attendance is not mandatory, but needed to pass, participate in class, he gives so much extra credit too, I should have gotten a C, but with EC I got an A! He is also the sweetest and is more than willing to help you in office hours. He only teaches in the fall, so take him while you can!
Amazing professor, really cares about the students, and is willing to help in any way possible. I would really recommend to take this class with Dr. Rosas-Acosta
He's the best professor I've had a UTEP. His lectures are really good, and he really cares about the class. The classes aren't easy because you have to read a lot and stay on topic, but if you do this is a easy A.
You have to work on your own to get a good grade. He really cares about students. As long as you put in the time you will get the grade you deserve.
He is by far one of the best professors I've had. Good sense of humor, and very understanding. Despite the difficulty I would seriously consider taking a more advanced class with him.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is a teacher that loves his job and puts all of his dedication into the lectures for his students. His movies are not only helpful but very entertaining. I will totally recommend him for this class
There is extra credit in class that needs to be completed to really get an A in the course so it's wise to actually show up. He gives 4 exams, and a lot of the material is covered in his lecture videos.
Awesome Teacher with awesome teaching skills. Attending lectures is key to passing class. He makes powerpoint videos that are so helpful when studying for exams and understanding material in detail. If you plan on being a professor, taking his course will help you in how to become a great one.
If you have to take MCB, Dr. Rosas-Acosta is your guy. He gives each of his students the best chance at succeeding and learning. He loves class participation, he gives extra points when he can, and gives online quizzes. The quizzes make you read, but they guarantee subject familiarity for next class. Supportive, interesting, motivating, detailed.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is the best teacher a biology major can encounter, the class is kindda hard, but Dr. Rosas-Acosta makes it so much easier to learn. My best recommendation to pass this class it's never miss session, take good notes in class, because that's manly what he puts on exams, and without the book you'll be able to handle, but it's useful.
By far one of the best professors that I have had! He is very down-to-earth, and is a great person. He genuinely cares about his students, and is a master of the material that he covers. I strongly recommend taking this class during the summer, but make sure that it is the only class you take, along with the lab, if you have to.
I absolutely love his class. By far, the best professor at UTEP. If you can take him for a class, DO IT!!!! You would be stupid not too. His class is challenging, but never in my whole college career have I learned as much as i did in his class. I highly recommend taking him, and he's hot so it's a plus!! +
He is a great professor! Make sure to keep up with your t aging and the movies he post are really helpful!
Easy class if you do your work (eg. watch the movies, do the RATs, and pay attention during class, especially the in class activities). The movies, the in class activities, and the study guide are helpful for the exams.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is very helpful and he'll try his best to not let you fail but he's also not going to do everything for you (obviously). It can take a bit of work but it's worth it. He's a good instructor.
EXTREMELY helpful professor. He gives you countless opportunities to improve your grade. As long as you pay attention and truly give this class as much effort as you can, you will do great. It isn't an easy course, but taking it with Dr. Rosas is extremely worthwhile.
His exams are pretty hard. He always uploads stuff late at night.
His accent can be confusing at times
German-Rosas is by far the best professor I've had at my time in UTEP. His lectures are always on point in terms of what is needed to be studied for his tests. He explains everything in detail and as long as you retain what he teaches in class and do the homework assignments, it's an easy pass.
Professor Rosas-Acosta is excellent. He challenges his students while encouraging them to excel. He explains complex topics and techniques in biology with clarity. He makes the classes engaging and intellectually stimulating. If you take a class with him be prepared to work hard and learn a lot! He is definitely one of the best professors at UTEP.
I wouldn't recommend this professor for premed students. He just never talked straight to the point. His lectures and exams are very messy and disorganized. At some point I had a feeling he just didn't want to teach. Good luck on taking his class
Read book carefully, pay attention in class, watch movies and really understand the concepts. He is a very good teacher that cares in student learning.
Dr. Rosas is a great professor and cares about students. he is always wiling to help and loves to see everybody is learning. In addition, be prepared to read and watch his videos, and more important do not forget to take notes!! I really loved his class
Great lectures, don't fall behind.
Very interesting class and a great teacher. Makes very difficult topics understandable. Fair at grading, but it is required to study.
Challenging course but interesting lectures makes it so you don't want to miss the lectures. Encourages class participation. Clear syllabus. Does not go off on tangents and he sticks to lecturing about Cecile cell biology.
Has so many opportunities to earn more credit to get a good grade. Very good professor, makes sure students understand each concept before progressing. Watch the movies before class and you will do great! Love the professor, really cares and takes the time to teach the right way!
A hard upper course class to take, but an amazing professor that is truly passionate about his job!.
This professor teaches of of powerpoints, but he doesn't put you to sleep. I took him in a summer class and didn't have any problems. He cares for his students, but the exams can be a bit difficult - so make time to study. He recommends the newest version of the book, just use an older version b/c the pg/info for other editions is on the syllabus.
This is one of the first classes I have actually learned something useful and was having fun while doing it. Dr. Rosas-Acosta is an amazing teacher, I only wish he taught more classes. This class is tough just because it is A LOT of information, but if you study hard, do the RATs, and COME TO CLASS (he does activities in class) you will pass.
This has been one of the bests classes I have taken at UTEP. He has your best interest at heart and is easily approachable. The class is not a piece of cake and you do have to put your best effort but there are plenty of ways to get an A. Come to class and participate there is no way you won't get an A. You learn a lot in lectures.
Dr. Rosas Acosta is very dedicated and will help you understand and enjoy the course.
By far one of my favorite professors! He truly is there to help you learn. If you pay attention, you can pass with an A or B! He gives in-class quizzes everyday for extra credit, and when the entire class gets a question right, he even gives an extra credit point toward the next exam. Hard to fail! He's super nice and funny too! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Best professor ever. Dr. Rosas-Acosta is very caring and understanding. He makes the subject interesting. You can't just memorize facts for the test, however, you actually have to understand the material so that you can apply it. Only homework are RATS which are online ten question quizzes on blackboard. Learn and understand in-class activities.
Dr. Rosas- Acosta is truly a great professor. He tries to make his lectures as interesting as possible. If you're willing to put in work and actually learn it is a great course, and he's an easy grader.
The teacher really supported you and you had many chances to do well in the class. The material was difficult and required you to study and understand the material, but it was a really enjoyable class overall. The professor was funny and passionate about his teaching, so you enjoyed every lecture.
Sweetest Prof! Book required for weekly 10q quizzes (RATS). He uses REEF online polling for class participation (FREE). In-class activities are on the test FORSURE. He gives reviews for every exam. (REVIEW similar to test) they are lengthy FYI. What will be on the test? The Review+Movies+In-class-activities. He is so caring and passionate.
Great class, focuses on the learning part of the subject and works with you so you aren't entirely focused on just trying to get a good grade.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is by far the best professor that I have had a UTEP, I wish he taught more courses. It's a lot of material that can be hard at times, but there are plenty of opportunities to succeed in his class. He is genuinely passionate about his job and about students learning the material.
Great professor! He makes complex concepts understandable and has very reasonable expectations for students!
exams are very detailed pay close attention to in class activities.
Best teacher ive ever had at UTEP. There is A LOT to cover throughout the semester, if you miss class you wont do well. His tests are very detailed, they really force you to think. But if you attend class and pay attention you'll do fine. He actually Cares about his students and gives you every opportunity to pass. Would definitely recommend!
Best professor in UTEP no doubt about it. I am yet to meet one person who doesn't agree with me. Focuses on what is important and makes you learn the concept inside out, as opposed to covering 1,000,000 subjects and emphasizing on nothing. The tests are fairly easy too as long as you attended class, otherwise you'll be lost.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is a wonderful professor who genuinely cares about his students to learn the concepts and understand them. He will work with you and make sure you understand everything and pass. His class is tedious, there is a lot of work to involve and his tests are detailed, but his grading system makes it almost impossible to fail.
Dr. Rosas Acosta gives in class activities & they count towards extra credit! His exams are usually 54-55 que. but you only need 50 to get a 100! As long as you go to class, do in class activities (they appear on exams) and complete the review for the exam you'll be prepared. The review is a little long, but everything on the exam is on the review!
Dr. Rosas Acosta is a amazing professor. He gives lots of in class activites and extra credit opportunities. He says so himself that his class the most forgiving you can take at UTEP. Pay attention and attend class and study for the exam and you will do very well. Easy A.
Amazing teacher, how bad him twice, the only way you get below a B is if you take advantage of how easy this class is. Very likeable teacher
Great professor you will love his class
He is a great professor! He makes lecture enjoyable and although we use Reef polling a lot, it is mostly used for extra points. Exams are doable and easy if you attend lectures and participate in the in-class activities.
Dr. Rosas is Great! He really helps you learn a lot! I love his videos even though the sound is not that good. But I wish he makes more videos about other areas that are harder to understand in the book. Be ready to read the book! after reading I recommend to watch the videos for a solid understanding of the material. This class is really fun!
Great professor who is passionate about the topic and actually wants you to pass his class. Sometimes exams/RATs can be way harder than material provided but as long as you read and go over lectures you should be okay. Reef polling is used often in class to get extra points on the exams so attendance is important. Overall awesome class.
Good professor with a few draw backs. He is passionate about the topic but he can get to into it and confuse everyone. Exams and RATs are harder than the material covered in class. Reading is a must if you want to do good in the class. Reef is used in class for extra credit. Overall a good class, but you will have to work a bit for an A.
Dr. Rosas- Acosta is a really great professor. He is passionate about MCB and wants student's to learn. However, the material is tough and you need to put in the effort. Reading in this class is a must and the RATs are pretty difficult. Exams are online and difficult. I recommend this professor if you are willing to put in the work.
While the professor posts power point slides on Black Board, He goes into greater detail in class. The level of detail allows you to know what will be on the exam and what won't be on the exam. He gives out tons of extra credit and always welcomes questions. He is very easy to deal with. He has in class activities that help a whole lot as well.
He is an amazing instructor. He really cares about his students learning. If you read the required pages from the book and watch the videos he makes, the exams are easy. He gives a review for the exams, and many chances to get an A. Pay attention to lectures and go to class. He is pretty cool and funny so lectures are not boring. TBH hes cute too.
Rosas-Acostas is a REALLY good professor. His primary concern is that the students learn rather than focus on grades, so he makes it easy for students to do well; many extra points from daily activities and so on. He always provides reviews for his exams (the reviews are LONG) along with videos and readings from the book to supplement his lectures.
Dr. Rosas is the BEST bio prof I've had in 3 years. He's super enthusiastic when he teaches, which keeps you awake. He really cares about your grade & offers LOTS of extra credit. He teaches very clearly. You actually learn! I would take this prof for every class if I could. 10/15 RATs count, highest exam counts twice, & final replaces lowest exam.
This is one of the BEST professors I have ever had at UTEP. Yes exams are tough, BUT he does so much to help you pass them. He is very passionate about the subject, but most of all he is passionate about his students learning and thinking outside the box. Attendance is not mandatory, but I never wanted to skip class because I enjoyed his lectures.
Great Professor, took him for MCB in summer. Tests are a little difficult and this a class where studying is a must, you wont get by by just paying attention to lecture. But gives extra points in exams, and weekly quizzes help alot. Recommend his class, he manages to make this subject enjoyable.
He is the best biology professor at UTEP Ive taken so far. Study the RATS, power point presentations and from the book, EXAMS are just a huge rat
many extra credit opportunities, show up to class and do the in class activities. 10 out of 15 RATS count. RATS are hard even with the book and the exams are basically all RATS and in class activities. Great professor.
By far the hardest class I have ever taken. However, if you study, read the book, and watch his movies you will understand the material. Awesome professor very enthusiastic lectures.
Dr. Acosta is by far one of the best at UTEP. He always finds a way to make his lectures interesting and you can tell he really likes what he teaches. His test are a little hard but do-able if you read and pay attention.
His class is not hard, but it is A LOT of material to cover in such little time. Find time to do the RATS a lot of his exams cover the same material. STUDY STUDY STUDY!
Good professor
He is an awesome lecturer for real. However, it is a lot of material and being honest it is a hard but he provides everything for you to succeed. If I fail I can strongly say that it was because of me and he had nothing to do with it because as I mentioned he provides everything.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta goes above and beyond for his lectures. He uses a lot of analogies to understand abstract concepts, but don't get me wrong it is not an easy A. He likes to know the students understand the material, which I believe is part of what makes him an amazing professor!
An empathetic and knowledgeable teacher. His genuine interest in molecular biology can be seen during lectures. The material is vast and complex, but careful reading prior to lecture makes it a lot less intimidating, and is required anyway for the quizzes. Numerous opportunities for extra credit, but don't rely on it.
A very good professor overall. Is very good at thoroughly explaining the material . His test questions are highly specific.
Great professor. Very caring and tries to make class enjoyable. You should do good as long s you study and do all the RATS. Provides study guides.
The class is tough, but the tough classes are what you need to be prepared for a high class job, like doing research in a lab, or a Graduate Program like medical school. He gives homework, and extra credit. Just remember this, the Exams are mostly based on his videos and his RATs, not the book. You need the book to take the RATs though.
It is just as hard as Acosta's Lecture, if not harder. You need to both read the lab manual, and listen to the TA's because they often change things in the experiments from the lab manual. You act like a Scientist doing an Actual Research Report in the Lab. If you drop the Lab, you might have to drop the lecture too.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is an amazing professor. He makes every lecture enjoyable and keeps students engaged through in-class activities. If you want an A, you will have to work for it but Dr. Rosas-Acosta provides many opportunities for you to perform well. The textbook is needed to succeed. Attendance is not required but you will miss important info.
amazing professor and a beautiful man
If you want an A just do the following: 1) Show up to class and participate in the reef polling 2) Do ALL the RATS 3) Do the study guides Half the exam is based on the in-class activities which require thinking! The other half are from the RATS. The exam questions used are from the RATS verbatim! His grading scale is extremely forgiving!
He is a professor that will make you love molecular biology and his passion drives you to be a better student researcher and person.
Amazing lectures, class seems to fly by in no time. He has all the students do a breathing/stretching exercise before exams, this really helps with testing anxiety. Do your rats, go to class, and watch the youtube videos. You'll do fine in his class.
Easiest class taken. Curves a lot. You must get an A in this class, no excuses.
It is definitely a hard course. You have to read, watch the movies he posts on YouTube to be prepare for class. It is very detailed material and that is what makes it hard. He gives you points for attendance so be early in class. For the exams, study RATs, power points/notes, in class activities (very important!) and watch the movies.
Get ready to read, watch movies he prepares for exams and do a lot of RAT'S. Mr. Rosas has been one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken, yet hes a very good teacher and is always available for students outside class. He will explain any questions you have after class. He's a well respected teacher and fair with students.
Easy class, this one of the courses that separate those students who want to go to med school, but I guess his goal is that mediocre students can get A's. curves a lot like Colombian curves. extra credit. Definitely, it is not a challenging class
good: motivates students some info: 1. be ready to read a lot 2. a lot of opportunities but have to work hard to earn a good grade bad: he doesn't teach mammalian physiology
The course is ridiculously complicated and uninteresting. Dr. Rosas goes above and beyond to help students understand though. It's NOT an easy A to an average student. He makes it an easy A if you regularly pay attention in class and keep up with the textbook. What makes him unique is his youtube videos, which own their own can accommodate lecture.
A very caring and understanding professor. The exams test on lots of detailed information and can be very difficult. However, he provides many extra credit opportunities and additional easier assignments that contribute a lot to your overall grade.
The test are very heavily detailed that requires deep understanding about the processes. This can be doable however, I found it difficult studying if I did not take a few days extra in studying. There are 4 exams and 1 final exam. 15 quizzes counts as extra points. Pay specific attention to class activities and videos. He is very understanding.
Great Professor who makes the course interesting . So sweet and caring on top of a good professor.
I love his lectures and personality. I suggest finding out how to get timing extensions if you have ADD/anxiety. I knew the material inside/out, I was proud of what I learned, but I failed every exam because he gives 5 answer choices, all extensively worded, making it impossible for me to finish without leaving 10+ questions blank.-Broken.
I took this class while the pandemic was happening, he was always very understanding. He really cares about his students and was always willing to switch it up. His lectures a very nice. Overall a wonderful man and professor.
Dr. Acosta is hands down one of the best professors I have had in all university. Not only is he hilarious and a fun/amazing lecturer, but you actually LEARN in his class. I am writing this at the end of fall 2020 semester (middle of pandemic) and though it was his first online class ever, it was still amazing and I would love to take it again.
Be ready to memorize acronyms, watch his youtube videos, AND HIS TEST ARE INSANE His class activities are also SUPER HARD, and they are crucial elements of his test His quizzes look a lot like his tests, but his test are really hard. Be prepared to turn on all the spyware that schools have to offer when taking his exam. Incredibly hard class
MCB is definitely not an easy class let alone the work you have to put into the class. In-class activities are extremely hard if you don't take the time to understand them. Exams are also hard and are based on in-class activities. He definitely gives extra credit from iClicker participation points. I suggest putting a group together.
The exams were not an easy A. To do well, study your previous RAT quizzes and iClicker activities from past lectures. These iClicker activities are not easy to understand, so get with a study group to master all of them for the exams. There are four exams and a final cumulative exam along with many extra credit opportunities to boost your score.
Prof Rosas is a fantastic teacher. You do have to put in the work, especially with memorizing the RAT's and understanding the In-class activities but he makes all topics interesting and the exams are smooth when considering the work above.
Dr. Rosas-Acostas online MCB class was a real challenge. You HAVE to put in the work and effort to understand the material. During this pandemic, the online lecture is synchronous so you must be online and participate on the iClicker. Learn all the RATs given and WATCH HIS YOUTUBE VIDEOS. Really caring prof and is open to chat after class time.
German Rosas Acosta does a very good job in teaching. I totally recommend him, but get ready to do a lot of Rat's and study does Rats and in class activities (attend to class) because those come out on the tests. He does give you a lot of extra credit to pass the class. The class is challenging so get ready to study. I will totally take him again.
This professor was by far the BEST one I ever had. He made learning a lot of information over a semester easy. His lectures are engaging and can spark a real joy for learning. There were in class iclicker "quizzes" for participation and such but if you paid attention and did your homework you were on track to succeed.
This professor must have given these reviews himself because this is absolutely the worst class I have ever had. Cant understand a word he says so that makes nothing easier. 50 question exams.. no thats a whole final, absolutely not feeling it. 10/10 would most definitely do NOT recommend.
This class was so hard for me, especially because its hard to understand him. There is so much in the exams that you need to study. If you take his class you will have to make it your number 1 priority if not you will fail. Honestly I do not recommend this professor, makes things tougher than they should be.
The amount of material per exam is crazy. If you plan on taking this course make sure that it is your number one priority. You have to work extremely hard for the grade. The amount of information throughout the course can become overwhelming. I can assure you many students felt on edge throughout the semester.
Honestly, his tests are very difficult but only because of how much material you have to learn (its an upper level biology after all). Dont let people scare you into not taking him because hes cool and lectures well but definitely give yourself plenty of time to study and review the RATs. Its an easy class to get an A in if you dedicate time.
Cell and Molecular Bio is definitely tough, but Dr. Rosas-Acosta makes it accessible to everyone with his explanations. Just study ahead of time and you'll be fine.
His 4 exams are of 57 questions and cover about 100 pages of textbook per exam plus videos, lectures and in class excercises. He doesn't provide answer feedback for quiz, exam or iclicker questions to study for the final, so take notes of everything.
Profesor Rosas was pretty good honestly. There are 4 exams and a bunch of RATS. That is basically what your grade is based on. You have iclicker questions that help you tremendously at the end with your grade. The exams are tough but its overall an average class difficulty wise. You do have to study to pass.
As a woman, he's very motivated by sexual endeavors. Very flirtatious and so on. Not like that with the male students at all. All his TAs are women, and he's only nice to women and very rude to men. Makes me very uncomfortable. Class is passable if you study.
Took MCB last semester. I have no idea what goes on a professors head when they think its healthy and okay to put this much material in an exam for a useless course. I never felt anxiety the way I do now and it baffles me that Dr. Rosas can make exams so difficult/stressful. Never take this class, ask your advisor to switch this course if possible!
This course was so difficult I had lost who I was as a person. Make sure to make this class a priority over everything in your life because you will need to, to do well. He preaches don't memorize but its nearly impossible to actually learn all material for exams. I never wore a seatbelt on the way to his class on exam days in hope I would crash.
Do not take his class. He is not good at translating is knowledge to the class. He pushes his YT videos like those professors that say"buy my book". You will pass but only because "he is nice", he does not want to ruin his numbers. His slides are messy and he makes them worse. He makes you read the book and uses RATS and its useless.
He makes bio more difficult than it should be. He will add stuff to the exams that he did not cover in class, and his videos are not on sync with the lecture so you might get lost. He gets mad when we don't understand the lecture but its really his mistake since he goes to fast and barely cover stuff , he teaches like we already know this but no.
Avoid this so-called Professor, this wannabe YouTuber be like: "watch the movies guys"..... 10 ads in a 6-minute video. Egocentric, and loves to talk about how "good" he is, even his mnemonics are about him. Even if you study all the materials u will get a 70 on the tests. The stuff about the females is true.
Dr. Acosta is an impressive person, he's strict but nice overall. While he is a good professor, the workload for each exam is seriously excessive. The class is not difficult to pass though, and he provides plenty of opportunities for you to still get a good grade. He throws out extra points like candy so go to class, it really makes a difference.
Dr G is an amazing professor! This course does require studying though! but as long as you study the RATS, watch the youtube videos and participate during iclicker questions which, by the way help out your grade x100 you should do just fine! (:
For the lab, TA was great, explained everything so well & was always there to help. Be sure to have friends in the lab, otherwise, you'll be left alone in a group you don't really want be in & wont be as much fun. You'll most likely be doing a background research report, 4 lab reports, final exam (go over the manual) & the oral presentation.
Dr. Acosta is a great professor! he is strict but wants the best for his students. Remember he doesn't give you the grade, YOU earn that grade. So study hard, take advantage of the extra credit, participate on iclickers, read the book, go over the PowerPoints, recorded lectures, take notes and attend tutoring if you need to! You'll be just fine :)
This class is tough without a doubt. His exams are 57 questions but of those only 50 count and the 7 are extra credit. The lectures are really good and he goes into detail. Does a lot of iclicker that really helps with your final grade so i wouldnt recommend skipping class as those are participation points and questions you'll find on the test.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is amazing, I struggled with this class at first, but he is always there for you. This class requires studying, and if you are premed or planning to go on the graduate school path, it is very helpful as to the level of complexity and materials covered. He randomly gives extra credit during his lectures, so make sure to be there!
Dr. Acosta was probably one of my favorite professors in my entire experience at University. He was always very enthusiastic and very caring as both a person and an educator. This class definitely requires a good amount effort in order to do well. There is a textbook but in my experience watching his youtube videos helped me the most.
Best professor I've taken so far.
Dr. Rosas-Acosta is very inspiring and puts a lot of effort into his in class activities and in class shows. He provides a ton of extra credit and many resources for his exams. One issue is he does not cover all of the topics on the exam, so there are some topics that must be self taught but its negligible with the extra credit.
VERY good professor BUT theres SO much info that he doesnt get to cover it all in class (so alot is self taught) what f me up in the exams: doesn't fully explain how to read the graphs/images, the ones on exams r way harder. thank god 4 xtra cred. iClickers in class were kinda hard ngl exam 3=hardest, sososo many graphs:( i think ill pass tho!
amazing professor, material is kind of difficult in nature but he makes it easy to relate to and remember with analogies, actually acting out scenarios etc. does short quizzes from readings due before each class. gives lots of extra credit from iclicker. really cares about students actually learning and will accommodate and offer solutions.10/10
Good class he helps relate to the material by comparing it to our day-to-day life or physically shows us how the cells were working which really helps when you're a visual learner provides youtube videos that explain. A complaint I have is that there is no way to go back to review his lectures because its mainly pictures and he explains as he goes.
Class is very difficult so be ready to study. He claims to offer extra credit but adds the points to the total of the class. His exams are heavy, and some material is not gone over in the lectures, so there is a need to self-teach. Does not explain how to read most diagrams/pictures, and they are heavily implemented in the exams. Attend class.
Dr. Rosas is by far one of the best professors at UTEP. Even though the class is challenging, he offers many learning opportunities such as movies, podcasts, tutoring, and extra credit. He is one of the most caring and enthusiastic professors who always had the time to explain to me the drawings and questions seen in the class.
This class requires serious dedication, but Dr. Rosas-Acosta makes it engaging with hands-on activities. Attend class, use Unstuck AI for extra practice, and you'll do well despite the challenging exams.
Best professor ever, the class is difficult but there is a lot of extra credit.
Attendance isn't mandatory; however, he offers plenty of extra credit and participation points for those who attend consistently. Study RATs and the roles of the proteins involved. Watching the movies helps a lot as well. Exams on Lockdown and he's thorough about environment checks. Your grade is ambiguous until the end, but you'll get the A.
MCB in all honesty for me was one of the most difficult, if not the most difficult course I've taken at UTEP. His classes are not mandatory, but not attending can still penalize you as that's how you get the most extra credit. Take exams before midnight. Make sure to go to office hours if you do not understand what is happening in class.
You have to really go to tutoring regularly and make sure to talk to other students in the class to set up study groups! watch the YT videos, and take notes, and he is very accessible outside of class. Go to the TA before you go to him though. Lots of iClicker points, and do ALL the extra credit he tells you too, it will help immensely
The class has a lot of content itself, you do need to make time for it and go to lecture. Dr. Rosas is funny, he is available before and after class and makes the class content a little bit easier to understand. Extra credit helps too.
Dr. Rosas has been the most engaging professor I've had. Especially if you're planning to go into medicine, his class is incredibly helpful because you actually learn the material, rather than just memorizing it to pass.
