a lot of work, but very fair and open minded, nice and very funny enjoyableclass
Holy hell this guy is awesome. The best I've ever had.
He's the worst professor i've ever had, don't take him.
Great guy! awesome teaching ethics!
outstanding! disliked by students who don't like to work or read for their grade
This class is hard but you learn a lot. He is a great teacher and very outgoing
NOT a good prof. He dresses like he thinks he's a model. What the h*** is that all about? Thinks he's better than everyone else too.
an very awesome teacher! he is demanding and expects 125% from his students every class...

AWESOME PERSONALITY!!!!...EXPECTS A LOT BUT HEY...THIS IS COLLEGE GET OVER IT
RUN! take fisher instead! has a great back round but tests are very VERY hard

Gendlin is an amazing prof. He knows exactly what he is talking about and wants your opinion about it. Don't take this class if you are a horrible writer or don't at least have some kind of opinion or knowledge about what's going on in the world.
The perfect teacher. Knows so much and makes you want to learn. If I could take his course over again I would just to look at him. Take this class. I highly recommend it!
Dr. Gendlin is the coolest and nicest guy in the entire world outside of class. He is also the nicest guy in the entire world in class. But his tests are very hard. He is extremely helpful and very clear.
This professor knows the material. He is very clear and a very interesting teacher. His tests are pretty hard. Reading is a must! I recommend re-reading the chapters. It helped me a great deal. He is very helpful. He gave out study helper sheets. A+
For all of those who think EUP is 13th grade, Gendlin walks in and now u are at a university,he cares about your success. He worked for State Dept. & MIT.Best Pol.Sci. prof at EUP.Coming 2 class is not a job.ONLY HARD IF U LET HIM BE. Worth your $.
very hard class a lot of reading but he's also interesting
Was hard but would take him again. Is very kind and will try to make every effort to help you in anyway possible!
Yeah, he knows his stuff but unless you have two hours every day to spend on this one class, don't take Gendlin. (unless you can settle for a 'C')
His tests are NOT very hard. I enjoyed his class, even though he was on the local television station entirely too much. Study like a student is supposed to and you can earn an A grade.
you will learn ALOT in his class. he is fair, a really is a nice guy, interesting, and VERY DIFFICULT.
I've only had this guy once. It was a gen ed class that i thought would be a huge blow off. I ended up loving the class and studying like I've never studied before. If you're lazy and don't want to learn, don't take this professor. He is awesome!
He is a great professor if you're not looking for a blow off class. I worked hard in his class, but it paid off. I would definitely take him again. Plus, another bonus, he's hot too!
Nice guy. Good information. A good quality class with good info.
If you are good at essay's, this Prof is for you. Also, if you are taking classes to learn, this Prof is for you. Do not take if just filling electives, youprobably won't do well. I would take again.
Awsome professor!!! classes are made interesting and he is very enthusiastic. (keeps u awake)Organized and great professor to learn from. Very helpfull too!! AAAAAAA+
I have never studied so much for a class but I didn't hate the class. He is a very funny guy and you have to ask him to do is Arnold expression! Anywho, overall it was pretty cool.
Ranks with the best. I learned so much, but be ready to spend the time reading! For a 2pm class, it was very interesting. I never once nodded off!
What a great Prf. Very nice. i would love to take any of his classes.
His a liberal don't let the suit and tie fool you!!! I know under those designer clothes is a sandals wearing, tiedye shirt sporting dude. But fear him anyway because he makes you work
He is such a kick ass Proff. He's funny as hell, but he does make you do some work. I would love to have him for class again
VERY GOOD BUT VERY HARD @'-'@
Excellent prof, very interesting, knows his business. A great man but will take a pound of flesh from you by finals week.
Gendlin is a tyrant! He has no consideration for anyone and will make you look dumb in front of the whole class. He acts like he wants to help but when you go for help or to talk to him he is ignorant, ignores you, gets off topic, and criticizes you. Terrible!
I would not recommend this teach to anyone.
Quizes straight from the book, not lectures! Tests are sadly, easier than the quizes, but usually run 5-10 pages. He lectures the whole class (3-5 pages of notes a day). You don't study, you're screwed. Turn off your cell unless you want a popquiz.I'll never forget when he said "I'll see you in Hell"
Very compassionate, easy to get along with. Everyone found him to be comical. Watch when he asks you to "read like Gendlin."
Dr. Gendlin is hilarious. I learned a lot in his class but didn't do enough of the reading (read everything assigned twice or more), so I didn't do that well. I am usually an A student but I will be re-taking his class. As long as you read the book thoroughly you will be fine. Go to class everyday, when attendance is low he may give a pop quiz.
class was ineretsing but too many specific facts and dates on test. better know the whole ocnsitution and where everything is
Gendin is awesome...One of the most intellegent professors I've ever had. His class is a challenge, but you will learn a lot!
In my opinion, he is not a very good teacher. Thinks he knows a lot, but I'm not so sure. A lot of people think he is very intelligent and I'm sure he might have a high IQ, but he doesn't know how to reach students on a personal level. He doesn't move me with power point lectures. Maybe he could be less Al Gore and more Bill Clinton.
He was so interesting and smart and expected a lot of his students, but it made you want to live up to his expectations. He was a great prof.
Probably one of the smartest profs ive ever had the pleasure of taking. sure he thinks that he's gracing your presence by talking to you, but at least you understand where its coming from. i think its harder to realize how good he is in lower level classes.
This was the most rewarding A I have ever earned. Very tough, had him his first semester at EUP, heard he dumbed down the class since then... Still have my lowi book, man now that was an interesting read. if you like a challenge he is the teacher.
great professor
Very intelligent prof. Just remember to turn off your cell phones in his class.
It was a pretty decent class. I liked how he used a lot of power point and didn't completely regurgitate everything out of the book like 90 percent of the teachers (which I feels insults my intelligence and I can read and I didn't pay for storytime). However, his cocky attitude left his students feeling like disrespected minions. Personally, although we are closer in age, I felt even less reverence from this prof. I felt as if he regarded me even more as if I was a child. I do hope he does improve.
great proffesor
I think that he needs to ease up on the Guizes and Tests. Give more indication what will be on them out of the book instead of taking basic random things that you would think you would be on there at all. And for goodness sake go easy on the kids,a lot of the students he teaches are freshmen, coming right out of high school and they need to adapt.
Good teacher gotta work to earn your grade in his class if you end up having any problems he cares enough to help students
Hard class!!! If you like to read and like to take a ton of notes, take this class! He is a fantastic teacher and a very intelligent man! Funny guy, but you have to work to get your grade. Grades on Quizes, Exams and misc. Take if you want to learn a lot, but be prepared to read a lot!
i enjoyed his class, good teacher. he teaches you like he would at a higher level school. you need to work for your grade, he wants you to feel like you accomplished something in his class. reading tests are the hardest part of his class, questions could be anything from the reading.
I LOVE HIM!!!!! He is very very hard, and he will make u work!!! But he is by far the best professor EVER!!!!! He is very smart and funny, and class is very enjoyable. I am trying to take all the classes he offers. Much better than Rounds or Jeffrey. He is for those who are serious about school.
Excellent prof, must be a serious student to do well
This prof is straight, I adore him. He'll make you work, but he's actually worth listening to. And he's got a great addtude.
Great Professor, but you will work harder for your grade in his classes, than you normally would in other classes. His expectations are out of this world, but he is a cool guy, and he really knows his stuff. ONLY IF YOU LIKE/CAN HANDLE CHALLENGES TAKE HIM.
ok...i have mixed feelings with Gendlin. First of all the guy is brilliant. he knows everything that has to do with gov. He is helpful and is funny. But....his class is sooo hard, the book is murder, the chapters are 70 pages long and he quizes you on the reading. his tests and reading quizzes are very hard. NEVER LET YOUR CELL PHONE GO OFF!!!!!
He is a really nice guy and a wonderful professor, but he is hard.
Gendlin is the****. He is by far the greatest professor on this campus. I love him.
He's HARD, but A M A Z I N G! If you are up for a challenging class where you will learn and participate in thoughtful/provocative discussions on world news, he's the man.
Dr. Gendlin is the most fair, most professional educator I've ever had. True, he expects alot from his students, but what you gain from his classes is invaluable. He is very knowledgable about his subject and is willing to help anyone who needs it. Easily the best prof in the poli-sci department.
Classes are interesting but tests are terrible! He takes random facts from the book that he hasnt gone over in class. He is not helpful at all. Do not take him
Gendlin is a great man and an excellent professor. He has got great credentials and you can tell her really loves his job. He is hard but that is only because he expects you to learn the material, which will only make you become a better person. Also, I have had him for five years and I along with a lot of my peers find him super attractive.
GREAT PROFESSOR!
If I hadn't kept putting my foot in my mouth through the class I'd probably have had a better time in the class. It was a really hard class
Dr. Gendlin is a great guy, kind of funny, wants his students to do well. His tests are really hard but if you read through to book and highlight important parts and also take a lot of notes because on his tests he'll ask you anything and everything. Just talk in the subjects that he's teaching and you'll do fine. But like I said the class is hard!
Gendlin's a real cool guy, pretty funny too. His class was hard, but if you like the material it isnt that bad. Decent amout of reading, good amount of conversation. He knows what he teaches so you have to know what your saying, in class or on tests.
Gendlin is a great guy. Very funny and enjoyable. Makes class fun. He is very passionate about his subject which is something I personally look for in my professors. His tests are not easy. But if you study you can bring your grade up. I've already scheduled to take him next semester for a different class. Excellent and professional professor!!
Gendlin is simply the man. He treats his class as a "relaxed, albeit professional business meeting" where students can feel free to disagree with eachother and HIM on topics discussed in class. Tests aren't hard if you read. He isn't a stickler for attendance, but you should go if you want to pass. I've taken him 5 or 6 times and would do it again.
Though he is tough and his class is rather hard, Gendlin makes it very entertaining and you can feel rather relaxed in his class when your there. Though, I admit, I believe I am failing out of his class, I still enjoying going every day just to listen to his comments and the discussions that go on in his class. No complaints on not having a pepper.
Gendlin's style acknowledges that learning material thoroughly requires not only intensive study but also indiscriminate criticism. He has the same rigorous expectations for his students as he was held to himself. Other professors will seem unconfident, ill-prepared, and amateurish in comparison!
He was funny. Confident and knowledgeable. Would gladly take another one of his classes.
Great Professor, you have to study hard though to do well. His lectures are insightful the class discussions are interesting! Be prepared to do alot of reading! Oh leave your cell phone at home. If he hears anyones cell phone he will give the entire class a pop quiz!
I took many classes with Dr. Gendlin. He is a great professor. He is very kind helpful smart and funny. His classes were very interesting. I recommended taking his classes. You will learn a lot :)
Dr. Gendlin should be at an Ivy league school, but chose to be with us. We are blessed to have him.
He is an amazing professor! He comes off intimidating but he is a very mono-tone sarcastic type of professor and is alot of fun. He knows how to explain politics in a way that you can relate to and makes it easy to understand. Even though i never got above an 82 on tests and quizes, i still loved the class. Take him!
He comes off intimidating at first, but that weeds out people who don't want to be there. You get what you put into the class. If you show up, and make a good effort, it should pay off. Makes learning politics fun (that's hard to say!) A top notch EUP professor!
Can come off as snobby but hey what's wrong with that
This guy is HILARIOUS, not to mention he's like an encyclopedia of knowledge. You have to read the textbook and study hard but you learn a thousand times more that way. You truly earn the grade you get. Gerry Gendlin is the man.
Excellent Professor requires a great deal of reading comprehension
Dr. Gendlin is intelligent, engaging, funny, and motivating. Teaching from a fact-based, intellectual point of view, he convinces the democrats, republicans, and independents that he shares their views--largely because he is so well liked. It's not easy to ace his class, but it's easy to want to try. I wish EUP had a hundred more of him.
He is an ok teacher. Sometimes his funny comment dont come off as funny rather like an insult.
He is a good teacher, but I do not learn well from his teaching methods, little from class is tested on and most comes from reading. If you have troubles learning by reading avoid at all costs.
His class is really fun but if you can't focus on the reading you're screwed.
Gendelin himself is a fantastic professor and person. He is very knowledgeable on all the subjects he teaches. However he is a bit of a challenge. You must read and take good notes to pass his class.
One of the most intelligent professors on campus. Very funny and he will always make a joke. Tests are super hard. Very important to stay up to date with the readings and take very good notes to pass the class.
Tests are incredibly hard for the most part. And they are the ONLY grades you will recieve, if you have troubles learning from reading, avoid at all cost
He is a really funny guy, however, do not take him lightly. he means business. If you dont read all the material, you will fail. LOTS of notes, and not too clear on what you have to know. One of the hardest professors I have had. I had his 2.5 hour course, it was challenging to stay alert. Take at your own risk. His other courses were better.
I love listening to his lectures because he is funny and a great speaker, but the class is impossible. I spent six hours in one day studying for just one of his tests. My only advice if you do take him: take notes on the book and memorize them for the book quizzes...you think they'd be easy but he picks obscure things from the captions to test on.
VERY HARD CLASS! test are ridiculous. reading and studying your butt off is a must. but dr.gendlin is a wonderful speaker and very very knowledgeable! i loved listening to his lectures, just hated his tests! probably wont take him again...
Dr. Gendlin is a very good professor. While he may require a good deal of reading, it really helps you in understanding the material. I've taken him for numerous classes and would take him every semester if I could.
Took him for International Relations and Current issues in global politics. Very intelligent, well spoken, thorough. Tests are challenging, classroom discussion invigorating. You do not want to disappoint him and I believe he cares about his students.
Horrible teacher. He'd be better off becoming an orator. He requires a lot of attentive reading and it covers most of his tests to the utmost detail. Not knowing even a single sentence is risk of failing a test. He is way too strict.
A great guy, funny and knows what he's talking about to the max. I failed the class, but I don't hold it against him, it was my own fault. And despite that, I still learned an immense amount. Be prepared to take notes and study HARD. The tests are tough if you don't do the readings or take good notes. Very interesting class though.
Dr. Gendlin is a very classy man.
Very very awesome professor, very knowledgeable about politics. He has a sarcastic sense of humor which I loved, over all he is a very nice guy even if he doesn't see it that way. Read the book, he gives out reading tests and also reading will be on the exams. Don't just take notes, write down what he says in class as well and you will do fine.
I'm a political science major. His class is hard even for a political science major. That said you'll learn more in his class than any other class at the university. This guy knows his stuff. You'll need to work VERY hard to get a good grade. Very classy Professor. I think we're lucky to have him. Take his class.
He is great and funny.
Fantastic professor and keeps classes interesting. Read your book, even the little obscure parts. Take notes on the book and study them as well as his lecture notes. If you stop at his office hours he will even help you find a way that best suits you to take notes on the reading. Tough class, great man.
The class was great and he is a great teacher.
I can pretty much let his reputation speak for itself, but if you hadn't heard, he's a very learned, entertaining and professional instructor. Probably a big reason why the students who major in Poli Sci are still there now. Even at lower levels, do not attempt to half-ass his courses, he is very active in making you learn the material.
In comparative politics he is dedicated to teaching and wants his students to learn. He lectures for the whole class, incorporates current events into the class, and has assigned reading. Participation, attendance and reading are mandatory. Read the book, highlight the book, take notes, highlight notes, then read them both again. Loved his class
Not much needs to be said that hasn't. He's the best professor I've had at Edinboro. I am strongly considering switching majors partly because of his class. His exams and quizzes get harder throughout the semester, but you can do well if you read the book comprehensively and pay attention in class. Fantastic in class discussion and lecture.
Very difficult class
As he talks, you write. This goes on the entire class. I think more visual aids would be useful. He would always stress how if you read, you will pass. However, if you're not extremely comfortable with politics this is definitely not the case.
Gendlin is a pretty chill guy, I went into the class getting D's on all of my tests, but the mid-semester paper and the 25% final really helped. Readings are a MUST! That's what all of the quizzes are based on, and the tests have similar questions to the quizzes. Be sure to participate and don't sass him about his projector pointers.
One of the best professors Ive had in my life. Knowledgeable and inspirational. Thoroughly enjoyed every lecture and learned a ton.
No matter how much of the both you read, the tests will include questions unavailable in the book. You have to know all the little stats he mentions in class even if not on the PowerPoint slides. Overall the hardest class to earn points in.
Not a lot of feedback on exams and quizes
Good professor! I learned a lot, he lectures every day and you must take notes on everything as well as read and reread the required text. He made class very enjoyable and was very non biased when talking about politics. An Extremely difficult but enjoyable professor
The reading quizzes and tests have a lot of statistics on them and material not in the book or PowerPoint. He takes himself and his classes way too seriously.
He will get you ready for reality after college. READ.
He does a good job at keeping his opinions to himself while educating. Overall not an awful class, but be ready to read your entire book, and save tests bc final is cumulative.
I'm about to graduate and decided before I leave college I'd like to learn more about global politics. Yea no not anymore he's destroyed the subject for me. He teaches at a 500 level and expects new Poli Sci students to understand. I'm a science major and find his class extremely difficult and I've had to teach myself physics before. DO NOT TAKE!!
Graded on 4 tests, 4 quizzes, and one paper. Paper was okay, quizzes and tests both based on SPECIFICS from the book you wont remember unless you read AND take notes on the book in addition to class notes. Final was the easiest because it was cumulative of our three exams, but he doesn't mark wrong answers, only gives a score and nothing on D2L.
best professor ever. lectures interesting, discussions stimulating. he knows his stuff. always willing to help. complainers here are ones who don't read; classes not hard if you read the book. i've taken three classes with him and would take more if i could but i'm not a political science major
I love Gendlin's personality, he makes class fun and interactive, but he's a REALLY tough grader. MUST come to class and take notes because he tests you on what he says in class and doesn't post the powerpoints. There's 6 total writing assignments. As a health major, who just needs a mandatory english credit, this was very difficult to get an A.
Be prepared to take notes the whole class. The midterm and final had questions related to class discussions/ powerpoints and the textbook. My only complaint was that he gave the same time frame for all essays even if they were double the amount of words. As a person who doesnt like writing it was difficult getting the essays done on time.
I wasn't a fan of his teaching style. He is sometimes nice, but also pretty rude. You watch presentations and take notes every class. He is a tough grader and will critique small details. Does not give you enough time to write your essays. I only missed 1 class that was medically excused, but he dropped my attendance grade down because of it.
Overall, good teacher. He knows his stuff but very tough grader and seemed happy when test averages were only 70%.
only a handful of quiz/exams including the final through the semester. Very lecture heavy, get ready to take 3-4 pages of notes each class period. While reading and remembering minor details of the textbook you read for the quizzes. If you do anything in this class, SHOW UP! Attendance matters, if you miss a few classes, he will out right fail you.
He may seem like a tough guy at first, but as long as you put in the work, you will enjoy his class. Be prepared to read outside of class, pay attention, and show up with a notebook and several pencils. If you miss his lectures, then that's too bad! Otherwise, he's an amazing professor to talk to and is easily accessible outside of class.
Gen ed requirement and the class is almost impossible to keep a good grade in.
Dr. Gendlin is a great professor, but you definitely have to put effort into his class. This isn't a class you just show up to and sit in. It is discussion-heavy, and he expects students to reference the book. He cares deeply about his students, the campus, and the program he is part of. I recommend him if you're willing to put in the effort.
Dr. Gendlin is a very nice person with a good attitude who makes class fun & engaging. He keeps political opinions to himself but also prompts for critical thinking. The part where it becomes difficult is grading...There aren't many grades so those grades are weighed heavy. Be prepared to analyze the book heavy, the quizzes on it are very verbose.
Professor Gendlin, he helped me believe in myself more than anyone else, and he was literally just doing his job. He is tough, but if you are ready to do true college-level work, you will learn so much. He's a tough cookie on the outside, but cares deeply about his students beyond the classroom. If you want a real college experience, Gendlin is it.
Gendlin is a good professor and really cares about the students. If you have a question he can't answer immediately, he gets back to you promptly. He does require a lot of reading but if you do it in chunks instead of all at once its not that bad. Also never have your phone on or let it vibrate. He'll give the whole class a pop quiz on the reading.
I decided to take this class because it related to my major, even though I am not a Poli/Sci major. This is one of the best classes I have taken in Edinboro because Dr. Gendlin actually cared about his classes. The lectures actually taught you something and related to the out of class reading. There is a lot of reading, but it's not that bad.
Gendlin's class is challenging, but engaging. Attend every lecture, read the textbook thoroughly, and use Unstuck AI to prep for the detailed quizzes. It's tough, but worth it.
Professor Gendlin is very knowledgeable and passionate about politics and teaching. He cares about you as long as you are willing to put in the work. However, this class is really hard, especially for a gen ed requirement. WRITE FAST, READ FAST AND STUDY FOR EXAMS. I'm sorry to anyone taking this freshman year. Good luck.
He seems great to have in person, but online he was awful. I took an asynchronous class but instead of standard assignments, he posted a video of him teaching his in-person class - that's it. The video would be deleted in 24 hours, if we did not pay attention to the video, he gave us an unexcused absence. Why be asynchronous if you plan to do this?
Extremely entertaining and wonderful professor, discussion based class with great curriculum and fantastic approach. Does not appreciate technology usage during class however, so stay off your phone!
I cannot imagine how horrendous this class would be if I wasn't interested in the material - I would never take it if I had to do it again. Grades are based on tests based mostly on a book that consists of LONG run-on sentences and self-indulgent musings. The lectures are interesting but the readings took away so much time from my major classes.
