VERY BORING
HORRIBLE teacher, not helpful what so ever, strickly by the book, doesnt care to help at all seriously, boring as boring gets. Also he goes extremely fast and doesnt answer questions. Honestly avoid his classes because he's a guarenteed bad grade.
The worst teacher ever. Doesn't let you ask questions. Doesn't help you when you have a problem and never goes over anything strickly lecture. AVOID HIS CLASSES!!!!!!!!!! He doesn't know how to teach.
The first few weeks went fine, but as the semester goes on he becomes more boring, and tougher! He rules by the book, and talks very fast which confuses studens even more! He never stops talking even if the class has ended. AVOID HIS CLASSES AT ALL COST!!!
Seriously, I don't know what's with the previous rater...probably just venting after a bad experience. I had Gerry for calc 2 at night for 2.5/hr 2x a week, and I was never bored. He's a bit of an artist, his diagrams and explanations were elegant, creative, and clear. Fair/clear grading methods. He's one of my favorite instructors at Century.

WORST TEACHER ANYONE CAN POSSIBLY HAVE!! NOT worth your money, hates to answwer ?'s and confusing. skips steps, dont wk from book, so no point of having book..should be fired.
He is HORRIBLE! He would explain things I already knew how to do and I would leave class confused!! He treats you like you are stupid when you ask questions, he walks into class late & he begins lecturing while he's walking in the door & continues while he's walking out. NO OPPORTUNITY to seek help. He's a bad teacher & an unpleasant person. AVOID!
The person from Math1082 that posted on 11/14/05 must be nuts. Artist? What he does is WASTES time using different colors of chalk, which you can't even differentiate between when you are more than 5 feet away. One day he took like 5 minutes to draw the grid of graph paper on the chalk board to illustrate a line graph. He thinks we're all stupid.
He wasn't the best teacher I've had, but he was nowhere near the worst I've had. He gave enough opportunities for extra credit. His tests weren't too bad, as long as you studied your notes and previous quizzes.
His use of colored chalk was very helpful. He explains things step by step in an understandable manner. He is picky about showing your work and checking you answers.
I failed this course three times before, and Prof Naughton was able to explain algebra in simple terms that I could understand. I recommend him to anyone who struggles with math.
he is tough, but you learn a lot
He explains things well and cares about his students. He does a great job!
Not many good choices for an easy math teacher @ Century- Gerry's not one of them. No grading on a curve, if several students drop, or fail, he doesn't seem to mind. His goal is the paycheck, not the teaching.
I had a difficult time in this class. I am the type that needs notes on a test, which this teacher would not let you use. I dropped the class.
worst teacher i ever had.AVOID AT ALL COST.class will be full first weeks and you will see people droping one by one.not helpful and doesn't care about student.
One of my worst teacher i ever had. Man, this guy never answer questions. I think the reason he doesn't answer question is that he doesn't know the answer himself. Avoid him. Real bad teacher.
Good teacher, really knows his stuff. A bit quirky but once you get used to his expectations, you can get through. He makes awesome notes, don't waste your time writing them down, he posted them all online. You will end up paying more attention to copying his notes than to the Math that he is teaching if you try to write everything down.
I had Prof Naughton for my online math class. His lecture videos and notes were very helpful. His lectures videos explained the math concepts clearly, and I was able to view the lectures at my own pace. I highly recommend his online class.
his online notes and lectures are very helpful
Way better than a lot of the other profs. The online class was convenent. There should more classes online.
hez cool. not too nerdy... like you could hang out w/him. class kinda hard... but just do ur work.
This man knows what he is talking about, but he is very bad at explaining it. He doesn't spend much time to explain theory. He also doesn't incorporate the class into discussion much which I find to be helpful. Also his handwriting is awful. I can't even read half of it. Nice guy, smart guy, bad teacher. Avoid if possible
Even though most of the comments in here are bad about Gerry, I think he is still a good professor because even though it is hard at times, I feel that he does teach you to his best ability. One way to pass his test and exams is to study your homework and the chapter test review in the book. He lets you use a 3x5 notecard for test and exams.
Best math teacher I have had. I took his online math 70 class and his lectures were crystal clear. I never would have expected to understand math to the degree that he was able to deliver. I highly recommend him.
Agreed, I would however make sure you are learning instead of just getting the assignments done. Best math teacher yet.
My experience was not that of a lot of the reviewers here. Yes, Prof. Naughton was a bit qwirky (he is a math teacher) and a bit repetitive in lectures. I thought he was very helpful answered my questions. Many in class didn't like the repetition in lecture but I felt it helpful for getting a firm understanding of the material. Really feel that there are some unfair reviews of him on here.
As stated his handwriting is not that great but all the notes are done on the computer for you to review. Had him for calc 3 and 4. The tests are straight from the Activitys/quizs and the notes he gives you. Homework is graded if you did it or not. This material is complex for anyone teaching it!
I like that he hands out a notes at the beginning of the week and posts online the lecture at the end of the week. I liked the graphs in Maple too.
I took this course completely online, and it really frustrated me. His lectures are okay, but a lot of times he does things without explaining himself. Also, many of the problems on the graded worksheets weren't covered in lectures, which made it even more confusing. He's not very quick about replying back to students and he's a strict grader.
This is a 5 credit class, which is kind of scary, but the entire semester was a piece of cake! The midterm and final are super long, and takes hours to do. Extremely picky grader and you HAVE to show your work. If you have a general knowledge of math, and itâ??s not too hard for you to understand I highly recommend his online class.
I really like being able to get his notes in color and online. He explains the topics visually with the graphing calculator. Take Prof Naughton's class.
Nice guy but very disorganized. I took this partially online and his lectures were decent. One problem that I had was that I had every question right on a test but didn't receive an A because I didn't show enough work. I thought that was too strict of grading.
Took this class online. One worksheet per week, two offline at home exams. Workload was very light, however he is a very tough grader. If you get the answer right but do not show every bit of work or find the solution differently than he did in his answer key, you WILL lose points. Not responsive to emails and you're on your own if you need help.
Prof Naughton is very nice, and I appreciate his preparedness in making notes for everyone, but he is a very boring and confusing teacher. My calc 2 teacher taught us a bit of differential equations. I loved them and really looked forward to this class. It has been terrible. He is a dry speaker and does not fully explain the concepts.
Awesome! Highly recommended. Has vast knowledge of all areas of math and uses a very intuitive lecture style.
A very easy teacher if you can self study the book/notes. He's very boring but tells you exactly what's on the tests and quizzes, making them a breeze.
Notes were straight-forward and there were no surprises on the exams if you paid attention in class. The problems done in class helped prepare for the course content.
Not that hard if you pay attention. Tests are the same things he goes over in class.
I really enjoyed his lecture video style. It was really helpful in learning algebra
I had Gerry for calculus all last year. He is a really good teacher and he posts all of his notes & lectures online. He sometimes tries too hard to be funny, but that is ok, he is a fuddy-duddy math professor. He wrote me a great recommendations for a scholarship.
I hadn't had math in several years, and Gerry was very helpful in helping me study for the placement test. I moved up two classes from math 10 to math 70. Thank you Gerry for your help and thank you for the brownies.
I had taken the placement test and was a couple of points shy of getting into Stats. I took my appeal to Mr Naughton and explained that I needed to take Stats. He asked about my math background and some math questions. I must have got the questions right because he placed me in Stats. It was nice to have a person decide instead of a computer.
He is chill, but makes you work for the grade. He is also sets forth clear expectations for his class. His lectures are sometimes hard to follow, but he covers it again in class. He gives you a worksheet each week, and a out of the book homework assignment. Super easy class if you apply yourself. You HAVE to watch the lectures, or you won't pass!
I took Math 70 before and failed. My counselor said I should take the new Math 60 class instead. I am glad I did. Prof Naughton was great, and now I'm taking Stats.
It was really helpful to watch the math videos and print out the notes to go with. I like being able to pause and rewind. I feel like I finally learned math.
I never thought I would get an A in a college math class but the way Prof. Gerry taught and organized everything made the concepts seem more simple and understandable. I am moving on to statistics and chemistry next semester with a little more confidence than before.
I worked my ass off in this class. I took a hybrid class with the notes online and the worksheets i went to class for. I found this to be very helpful because if I did not understand something, I could always go back and replay the messages. I truly learned a lot from this course but I put in hours upon hours of studying. Im not good with math, btw
I took this as a summer class, everything condensed into one month. It was difficult only because you had 3 HUGE homework assignments due a week. I spent A LOT of time studying and the teacher was always willing to answer questions.
He has very clear online lectures. I was able to follow along with no problem. Test questions were taken right out of notes and assignments. Did not need the book for this class. His lectures were sufficient for the tests and assignments.
I took multivariable calc, and really liked the class. Lectures are online, so you actually spend most of class time working through problems and actually LEARNING.. He's not a stickler on the homework. Tests are fair. The "flipped classroom" (lectures outside of class) worked really well for me and it's probably been my favorite math class ever.
I had Prof G last semester too. I like the flipped style with video lectures at home and group work & exams in class. His videos sometimes can be long and boring, but he shows you step-by-step how to solve the problems.
I really like his video lectures and notes packets. I like how in the videos he shows step-by-step how to solve the problems like he would on a whiteboard in a classroom. I also like the notes packets that comes with the videos, it helps with following the videos and taking notes I can study for the exams latter.
Took his online math class which started off great. I had to take pictures on my phone, make sure they were clear, and send them in. Each one he wouldn't give me full credit on because the pixels were the wrong number or it was in the wrong pdf. I figured out how to change everything but he withdrew me anyway. Horrible prof and difficult grader.
Prof Gerry was great assistance in facilitating my effort to register for statistics course at Century College during the summer semester. This will enable me follow my plan of academic pursuit.
He was very helpful and clear in his instructional videos. Very easy to follow and understand. Great professor.
He does a good job simplifying the material.
I felt his lectures were very helpful. Also application problems were helpful.
He made me feel more confident in myself and I felt more prepared and I learned the material way better. He was fair at grading and he got all the assignments in within a few days, only problem I has was to convert everything into PDF.
His class is amazing!
I check Prof Naughton's reviews before taking his class. The reviews are right, he is a good teacher.
Due to personal reasons, I had to drop Prof Naughton's last semester. He was kind enough to email me and encourage me to continue my studies this semester. He said I was a good student and it was a shame I had to drop. I am taking his math class again and I am doing very well.
Professor Naughton is a very simple guy. You listen to the weekly lecture and then do the assignment and that is all! The lectures are easy to understand, he is a very good teacher. If you turn in the assignment every week you should get an A no problem. There were only three exams for the online section of this class. Easy!
If I could have Gerry teach all of my math classes, I would! His online class was great! He has you print off prewritten notes and you just follow along with the videos. While the videos can get long, he's very thorough in his teaching. Just turn in the weekly assignment, do the tests and you'll be golden. I never once used the textbook.
I personally wouldnt take his class again. He can be a bit of a jerk when you dont understand something. It may be simple to him, but not to the rest of us. He can be picky with grading. His lectures can be useless sometimes. The nice thing is his quizzes are done in groups typically so you should always get good quiz grades.
It was really helpful to watch the math videos and print out the notes to go with. I like being able to pause and rewind. I feel like I am finally learning math.
I had Gerry for calculus last year. He is a really good teacher and he posts all of his notes & lectures online. He sometimes tries too hard to be funny, but that is ok, he is a fuddy-duddy math professor. He wrote me a great recommendations for a scholarship.
An easy teacher if you study the video lectures and notes. He can be boring at times and tried too hard to be funny, but he tells you exactly what's on the tests and quizzes, making them a breeze.
I really like being able to get his notes in color and online. He explains the topics visually with the 3D graphing calculator, which is very handy for Multivariable Calculus. Take Prof Naughton's class.
One of the best math classes I've ever taken. The material is covered in depth and he does an excellent job explaining different concepts and covers them thoroughly. I would highly recommend taking him for any math class.
I took a hybrid class with the notes online and the worksheets i went to class for. I found this to be very helpful because if I did not understand something, I could always go back and replay the messages. I truly learned a lot from this course. Im not good with math, btw
I am glad to have Prof Gerry as my instructor. He made the class enjoyable.
He is a little nerdy, reminds me of my dad.
I took a precalc class with Dr Gerry Naughton. He handed out hand written notes - he writes like a 10 year old. Requires work done in class - frustrating and annoying for individualistic learners. He is understanding and brilliant, but his handwriting and irritation with questions is quite off putting. I wouldn't recommend taking his class.
I too had Prof Gerry for precalc. I really appreciated getting the notes handed out instead of having to take notes from the whiteboard. I liked that he recorded videos of his lecture and posted them on D2L. This made learning math easier. One problem was the projector in the classroom was sometimes a bit blurry, the videos looked fine online.
I took PreCalculus with Dr Naughton at Metro State University. He's brilliant but he hands out pitifully hand written notes that are barely legible, and is easily frustrated with questions. The in class activities are horrible for individualistic learners who require quiet to focus. The homework is not even touched on in class. He get's a C-
I like the video lectures. Notes were straight-forward and there were no surprises on the exams if you paid attention in class. The problems done in class helped prepare for the course content.
I took multivari calc, and really liked the class. Lectures are online, so you actually spend most of class time working through problems and actually LEARNING. Tests are fair, much like the in class activities. The "flipped classroom" (lectures outside of class) worked really well for me and it's probably been my favorite math class ever.
I had Gerry for MATH 1082 and 2081 (Calc 2 and Multivariable calc) and I LOVED HIM. His lectures are easy to follow if youre a fast learner and if youre not, he posts a slowed-down version of all his lectures online so you can skip. Very clear about what you need to know how to do and how to do it, lots of extracredit, understanding if you miss.
I have taken Calculus 1-4 and Calculus 3 twice, and I can honestly say Gerry has been by far the best Calculus Professor I have had. He truly cares that we master the material as students and gives us the notes and video lectures in a way where I can learn at my own pace.
I took Math0070 online and I would take his class again if he taught Statistics. His online lectures and his reading notes are easy to follow. His handwriting was a little difficult to read at first, but after a few reading notes, you'll get the hang of what he is writing. Overall, a very great teacher!
Gerrys class was very well structured and put together where you knew exactly what was expected each week. Youd have 1 worksheet a week and then after that unit youd have an exam. He was understanding when my son was admitted to the hospital and I fell behind and was able to make up my homework! I would definitely take his class again.
Hes the best math professor Ive ever had. His online lectures make it easy to go at your own pace and to catch up if you take a sick day. He gives extra credit on exams and drops the two lowest activities. Id highly recommend taking him because he makes calculus simple and understandable
Hes very helpful, if you have questions he will go the extra mile. Each week you watch the lectures in d2l and complete an activity theres no quizzes!
Text book was not required and I don't know if that was noted before or after? I wouldn't have wasted money buying it. His handwriting is horrendous - be prepare to have to rewrite. Print out notes so you can make your own notes. He reads off his notes. Be prepared to teach yourself or seek help outside. Nice dude just bad teaching.
Easy and clear instructions, You go at your own pace and can work ahead.dont need book, print out his notes and follow his lectures to fill out note packets. He does dock points easily on assignments for little mistakes so make sure everything is perfect and correct. I haven't taken math in 20 years and I'm usually bad, but he teaches good.
Not a really engaging teacher. Hard to follow sometimes when he goes on a talking spree. Homework was alright but exams were quite difficult without notes. It's hard to memorize all concept without being provided formulas.
I took discrete math with him at Metrostate. (he had to replace another teacher who stepped away for family reasons.) Lectures were boring, but he will answer ALL the questions you need during the 2nd half of class, but you gotta be pushy about it. No formula sheet on tests, which was a PAIN, but homework each week was very short and pretty easy.
He was great and respectable professor but the way he teaches the class is just copying from his notes and doesn't bother to help us understand the material, he is also a harsh grader and I have repeatedly gotten full points taken off due to small errors, if you are looking for a discrete mathematics class I would not recommend Professor Naughton
Had him for MATH 1082 and MATH 2081 too. -All classes have lecture notes and video lectures online -Has office hours and answers questions in class -Assignments can be completed with classmates -Two midterms and a final, all the same weight, non-cumulative -Tests are part take home, part in class -Easy to work with if life events delay assignments
He is flexible. He posts all his video lectures recorded during Covid remote learning so that we can watch them at home, or we can come on campus for his lectures and group work activities. The exams are part take-home and part in class.
Professor Naughton was easy to complete the class work. Not to much included in assignments, but just enough to show you understood the material. Everything on the assignment was explained in the lecture. One lecture/assignment a week made it super manageable to do a get a good grade. You can tell he enjoys teaching. Great overall.
Amazing professor, can really tell that he loves teaching and makes sure that his students know what is needed.
There are exactly 12 homework assignments and 3 exams in his Calc I course, so you better do well on at least the exams because your grade is hanging by a thread the moment you turn in that first homework assignment. Be ready to attempt deciphering his horrible handwriting and rewriting all your notes so you can understand them.
His videos are a alot but 4 someone who really wants to learn/needs that GREAT! organized, clear & you know exactly what to expect. Knowledgeable, not super great when you need help just sort of expects you to do the hw and meet w/ students in breakout ses where no 1 communicated/ turn on camera--a waste of time
He is an amazing teacher who makes a difficult subject make sense. One of the best math teachers I have had. He pre-records lectures and then reviews them again in class, which really helps reinforce concepts. Group work lets us learn by solving problems together and teaching each other.
