AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Prof is very difficult to understand, screams the whole time, and the stuff he tries to teach is VERY unclear. No structure in his lectures, no ppt, interrupts students when they try to ask a question or give their opinion.
I don't understand why students are saying he is unclear with his lectures. If you attend class and you do your readings you should be fine. On top of that, if you really have trouble learning, the Prof is always there to help out his students and he wants us to ace his classes. So i say he is a good teacher and his class is interesting.
the teacher's explanations are clear and interesting.
WORSE TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!!! I don't usually post on these sites, but I feel it is my duty to warn you! This guy is a NIGHTMARE. His explanations are extremely confusing, most of them do not even match the readings. Office hours? Yes, but you might have to wait 1h30 (or more) until he shows up (true story). He is dismissing and rude. Stay away!
Extremely disrespectful when it comes to office hours. He does not show up them and he does not show up to a scheduled appointment either. Allowed amount of time in order to write an exam is prolonged with the students who had the re-take. The only thing I like about his class were the discussion groups. I do not recommend this class.
This guy is an excellent teacher. The best I'va ever had at the university. His lectures and expectations are very clear even though some readings and lectures are sometimes difficult to gras. I highly recommend this course.
M. YAMB is one of my best teacher I have ever had at Ottawa University. His expectations and explanations were very clear and he was always available to help students. I will always take his courses and I highly recommend his courses at Ottawa University.
Very passionate lectures that really made you want to listen. Though the material he lectured about varied a lot from what was in the reading (course pack) and therefore made it difficult to figure out what would be on an exam. Though he's a fair marker, and there are few assignments. You better like reading because theres quite a bit.
Very interesting and good professor. I am recommending to take his classes.
I found the cals of the professor very interesting and the professor is very open and available to help the students outside the classroom. I appreciated a lot the DGDs and the commitments of the Teaching Assistants. I will recommend this class because it's one of my best tacher in OttawaU !
M. Yamb is a very a good professor. Very demanding; He knows very well his stuff and know how to make it understandable for student even though it's sometimes a little bit hard to follow. Participation in class matters a lot. By attending his class, make sure that you bill grade on your attendante and your participation in class. Vary fair grader.
Très bonne enseignante.
Gervais Yamb is a really good professor, that is near-always available for his students, and is very understanding to the variables of a student life. He is a fair marker, and provides a good insight. His instructions, however, are rarely clear and often unusual. I would still recommend taking one of his classes, he has unprecedented passion.
Enseignant excellent.
I appreciated this course. The lecturer was excellent and open-minded. But He was a little bit demanding when reaching to oral presentations. I do recommend to take his classes.
M. Yamb is really a very good teacher. It is very difficult to sleep during his lectures. He knows his stuff and how to make clear difficult questions and problems in conflict studies. I just mention the lack of time for the DGDs to deepen some questions and insights. I recommend to take his class, mainly the ECH1500.
Very good teacher, available for students and very fair marker. But too demanding. You can not succeed without reading and attending classes.
I have enjoyed the class of M. Yamb. A lot of readings, but his grading criterias were very clear. Excellent teacherI do recommend to take his classes.
This class was very amazing. The teacher was excited by his teachings. It's difficult to succeed without reading materials and attending classes. Very fair marker and always available to help students.
Very enthusiastic. Tests are tough, asks for specific quotes. Obssessed with authors, so do your readings. If you don't read, you'll have trouble quoting on the exams. Good luck!
M Yamb is a very passionate professor and he is ready to go above and beyond to help you if you reach out to him. He also responds to e-mails very quickly.
Excellent professor. He knows his stuff very well. He likes helping students and he is always available for students. Very amazing guy !
Jai adore.
this professor is so down to earth and states everything simply. he tries to minimize confusion and gives clear guidance, feedback and answers all questions given to him. although this is a philosophy class, don't ask annoying questions and take everything too deep.. his instructions are straight forward.
Very nice prof, and is very helpful when it comes to the midterms and final exam. He tells you exactly what he's looking for and can even give you some good tips that will help you complete your work. Very funny and down to earth I would take his class again, it doesn't ask a lot of your time but when it comes to assignment do it well. easy grader
Gives very dry lectures and is unclear about assignments. Our midterm consisted of memorized definitions and a memorized essay outline we had to regurgitate onto the exam. I have learned nothing and he only asks for memorized material. If you love dry lectures, have a photographic memory and enjoy group presentations then he's your guy.
Very nice and good professor. Among the best. Very clear about his expectations. Fair grader. Always available to help students. I have learn a lot with him. I will recommend to take this course or one of his courses.
This professor is very good as teacher and person. He really loves to help students and he is always available, answers questions and gives guidance to students. His expectations about midterms are very clear. I recommend to take this course with him.
Very good Professor. Willing to help students to succeed. One of my best Professor at the university of Ottawa. Great guy!
I had him for an English bioethics course and he's very French but I found his accent fine to understand and he wrote things on the board to clarify. Gave good clear lectures, relevant readings, participation marks and the exam questions ahead of time. Wants you to do well and is exceptionally clear and helpful. Easy A and interesting class!
A week into the class, the profs were switched and Gervais was teaching instead. He clearly understands the concepts considering how much he speaks, but its hard to !) understand his accent/voice and 2) His criteria for grading is very unusual and hard to follow. This class was only hard because he taught it.
Very good teacher. Always available to guide and help students. His expectations are clear. Will his course again.
Excellent teacher. Does care about the students. Amazing and inspirational prof.
Difficult to understand at times, long-winded and boring lectures. The material itself is interesting though. Very fair grader. If you go see him during office hours he is very helpful and willing to boost grades if you ask. Easy A with minimal studying.
3 classes with him so far and hope i see him again I LOVE HIM. textbook cheap af too.
Very good and interesting lecturer. Fair grader and willing to help. Always available in his office and replies very quickly to e-mails. i will take his course again.
He is the best teacher i've had. he teaches you what you need to know. He will tell you exactly what is on his exams and he will even ask you to send your work so he can edit it before the final copy submission. easiest prof ive had in my 3 years of university. If you attend his classes and pay attnetion, you should receive an A
He teaches one of the French philosophy classes. I was often lost, just because he would go off on tangents. His slides were fine, but mostly just read off them. Did give some supplementary information. Requires essays on his tests which are graded strictly.
Very interesting Lecturer. Gives nice and inspirational lectures. Fair grader.
Prof Yamb is one of my favorite teachers... ever. The topic was complex and philosophy has never been my thing but he just makes it interesting. He is funny and always available for a quick chat. That said, you MUST study and do your readings if you want to pass. I should mention that his finals are usually complex essays. There's no skimming by.
This was a mandatory class for me so i was expecting to put in work but it was minimal. 10 DGDs - attendance (worth 10%) Clear on his grading criteria for midterms and exam and gave the long answer questions before hand. Exams got harder each time. Final was a take home. Overall, would recommend, the prof is hilarious and he clearly cares!!!
Believe the hype, Mr. Yamb is great! No secrets when it comes to exams, every question and all expectations are set well in advance. Its not easy but he makes it interesting and always fun (as much as a philo class can be). Highly recommended!
good prof
Hilarious
This prof can seem kind of rude when you talk to him one-on-one, but he's an OK prof and a relatively easy grader. He gives the exam questions in advance and lets you prepare an answer for the question of your choice, which is really nice. There were lots of readings, but it's not necessary to read them all, unless you need them for the DGD.
The lecture is boring, group discussions even more, HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO GRADE (or maybe he hires bad TAs who knows). An easy class where the tests would have MCQs with him is long answers and (totally unnecessary) essays where he takes marks randomly and doesnt know how to mark properly. The grading doesnt make sense, take it with another prof
Very good and enthousiastes lecturer. A lot of readings but very clear grading criteria. I recommend to take the course with him. Do care about the students.
Very good Professor. Easy grader but you must work hard to get an À. Lot of readings. Recommend him.
Great and passionate teacher.. A lot of readings for lectures and DGDs. But easy grader if you work hard.
Best sweaters in the business. Midterm and finals consist of definitions and an essay. The words that are going to appear on the exam and the exam prompts are given before the exam though so as long as you spend the night before reviewing them you'll be fine. I got an A+ and only went to half the classes
Was honestly not a big fan of this prof at all. The content was interesting and easy to grasp but going to lectures is useless as he just repeats the textbook and makes simple ideas overly complicated. His midterms consisted of an essay and definitions - not too bad but the TA's are snakes and you have to go back and fight for marks.
Very good Professor. Clear grading criteria and caring.
Very funny guy!!! He gives a list of words and only so many of them will be on the midterms/exams! Also gives you the list of essay topics that will be on the exams and you can email him or the TA's your draft and they'll give you feedback!
Good teacher.
If french is your second language, you will have a hard time understanding him. I had a very hard time, and half the time he seemed angry as if yelling information at you. If you follow his instructions word for word you can get a decent mark. Readings are must. He's not at all helpful if you reach out for clarity on the final take-home exam.
Good teacher. A lot of readings but easy marker if you prepare the exams.
Excellent professeur.
He is very intense but in a good way. He knows what he talking about and it shows. Before an exam he gives the papers saying exactly what is on the exam.
Great prof ! Always available to help...
Excellent professor.. did his best to accommodate the class, very straightforward about assignments and what he expects from us. Would recommend to everyone.
This prof is not here to help you. Ask a question during class? Get ready to be humiliated. Send him an email? Don't expect an answer. Very hard to understand him while speaking because he is either screaming or saying "eum" every 0.2 seconds. Don't recommend buying the book since he posts lecture on Brightspace. I wish you good luck and don't cry!
Prepares you very well for exams by literally telling you everything that will be on it. Absolutely no suprises and very good at explaining. If you don't consider yourself good in french, I would not reccomend him, since he can be hard to understand. Otherwise, he's an overall excellent teacher.
Excellent teacher. He does his best to help the students to succeed. I recommend him to everyone. Very clear for exams.
Actual lectures are useless, don't need to show up (only for his created discussion groups). Easy A if you study and are prepared. But also very easy to mess up as each mark is a percentage on his midterms. Very passionate about philosophy. Is a great guy.
The book was not used. He posts the pages we should read for group work. Two midterms that consist of multiple-choice (definitions) and a 2-3 page essay, while the final is take home.
He knows is stuff, but I dont think he knows how to clearly explain it. The classes can be fun at times, but for my semester he missed classes and did not change the schedule of them and we had to take an exam with no idea of the philosophers work. Im lucky I had philosophy in CÉGEP.
He is a very good lecturer despite that I didn't find the material very interesting. Tests are very easy to study for and free points for DGD attendance.
Overall, the class was great. Grades are based on 2 midterms (25%), a final (40%) and weekly DGD's (10%). Considering the lack of class participation, the professor did well in engaging his class and relaying the subject matter effectively. He has a super positive and uplifting energy! He's really passionate about what he knows and it shows.
Very good lecturer. A lot of reading but tests are easy to prepare since he is willing to guide and prepare us before the exams.
Overall okay but 2 big issues: dont go to his office for marks he wont budge and literally wont even listen to you. Second he told us that if hell round us up if were close to the next grade but didnt (I was only 2% away) and he said if we went to more than half the DGDs wed get full marks but I got a 60 on attendance and didnt go to 4 only
Very good lecturer. Well organized. Highly recommended.
I am happy of choosing this course at the end of the day. Great lecturer. Very caring. A lot of readings but very interesting. I highly recommend him. You won't be disappointed !
Prof made this class very easy to do well in. He always made sure we were more than prepared for our midterms, and very clear on what we would be graded on. By simply showing up and being prepared you can easily get an A. Great choice for a prof.
Very unorganized and does the bare minimum. He posts powerpoints and the assignments you have to do and that is it.
Barely sent any emails, very unresponsive. No exam feedbacks, TAs are clueless & contradictory. He doesn't have office hours, takes a few days to answer, often not at all. Gives no videos, no class meetings, very disappointing for a teacher. He doesn't teach us anything, made me hate the course even though i was initially excited to take it.
He wants you to pass his class more than you do. He'll give you detailed study guides and feedback and make sure no one falls behind. In class, he made Harry Potter jokes to crack up the class while explaining stuff. He knows philo is hard. Laughter and care is his cure. He is amazing at teaching. Not an easy A but a worthy A.
This class is not very interactive. No lectures, and so far I have only gotten one email from the teacher. No clue who the TAs are, and no feedback whatsoever. This class felt like a chore and was very disappointing.
Terrible professor, never did a single recording, only uploaded readings that are easily found on google, doesn't reply to emails, inconsistent, doesn't communicate with the TAs or the students, unclear assignments, no feedback on exams, did not learn a single thing from this class. Do not recommend this professor, avoid it if you can.
Prof. Yamb showed the bare minimum in teaching this semester. Little instructions and feedback on assignments. He posted all the materials (with no recordings) and we had to teach ourselves the course. Some of the materials were poorly scanned, so we couldn't complete the materials. I'm not sure what I did learn in this course as a result.
He did the bare minimum all semester and got paid a lot of money for it. All he did was send emails and post readings on brightspace. He didnt even mark our assignments or final papers.
Asynchronous course. Great teacher. But learning online is very challenging with this course.
Good teacher. But a lot of readings.
Nice class.
Cours difficiles. Beaucoup de lectures. l'Enseignant était disponible.
Good teacher. I learnt many things interesting. It might be more interesting in class rather than online.
Difficult topic but interesting texts to read. Very challenging as online class.
The professor was extremely helpful outside and during class hours, and worked really hard to help students succeed. In my case the TAs graded extremely toughly so he went over all remarking requests himself and really understood your writing content better. Worked late nights to help students.
If it weren't for his generous marking and grade boosting, his wild and rude TA's would've ruined everyone's GPA.
great teacher! interesting topics! the whole grade was based on 3 essays. gives really clear feedback and encourages to send multiple drafts and he'll correct all of em. easy to chat to if you need to improve your grade.
This guy is the most Passionate professor you will have. He made this class fun, and by doing so, I learned the material. Would 100% take this class again.
Amazing guy, teacher of the year. He knows what's up!
He is a great teacher. Very realistic and wants his student to pass and do well in his class.
The best professor at uOttawa. Lectures with passion and truly cares about his students. Provides the most help needed to ensure that his students have less stress. Very flexible due dates. I am never bored in lectures with him.
HE'S the best !!!
Took this course in the summer and he was so sweet. He clearly cared for us and even reviewed your papers before you submitted them. You could also get a re-grade by him if you felt the TA's were unfair. He's super passionate about the course and it's so engaging. Grade was based on 3 assignments, which were fairly simple. Definitely recommend!!
I honestly had a terrible experience in this class and so have many others based on what I've seen in our class discord. It is absolutely impossible to understand what is going on in the class and every time someone asks a question, he yells at them because "you should already know this". Ppl have pretty much stopped asking questions altogether.
Be prepared to have God as your professor, because I could not classify him as a man. I would repeatedly fail his class in order to have him over and over again, he is so passionate about what he does.
Very good teacher. He cares a lot about our success and personally dont understand the previous rating. All informations are on the syllabus and honestly many students are not reading the syllabus and ask questions that already has an answer in the syllabus. Great teacher. I strong recommend him.
professeur disponible et patient. Toujours prêt à aider les étudiants.
Very good teacher. Amazing lectures. Always available outside classes. One of my favourite teachers at UOttawa. I will strongly recommend to take his course. You won't regret it.
An amazing professor and amazing person. He made online class entertaining and interesting. I would definitely recommend this professor to everyone.
Professor Yamb is a king. I would 11/10 take him again.
Gervais Yamb is such a kind, generous philosophy professor. He moved all of our assignments back by a week (3 of them worth a total of 65 out of 100 marks), which is unheard of. Definitely take this prof if you can, he's also super motivating too!
Hands down the best Professor, Ive had this semester ! He is so passionate and caring about his teaching. He clearly wants his class to succeed. I strongly recommend him.
One of my favorite professors this semester! He clearly cares about his students and offers feedback before you submit your paper to your TA (as long as you're not too last minute). He also pushed the due dates after some students requested more time. Just read the syllabus and make sure you understand what's asked of you and you'll easily pass.
You do not need to attend the lessons as they are recorded. You can listen to them whenever.
He's so nice as a person, and he's also good at teaching and inspiring.
Very cool dude. He knows how to apply the lessons into relatable situations in order for students to understand. Even through his accent you can understand what he says.
Great prof who really cares about his students. No tests (so no memorizing), just projects/essays which he gave lots of time to work on. There was a fair bit of reading to do but you could get away with just skimming and picking out the important parts. Not necessarily an "easy" class but if you put in the effort you will get a good grade.
Great prof just take him and you will not regret it !
The class only had 3 exams I never attended lectures and did all my exams night before, still managed a fairly good grade. Huge downside is you can only use the lectures from class as sources on your exam and it's really hard to make a link between those. Other than that lectures were too boring for me attend, but class was super easy.
I took the same class with another professor and Prof. Gervais Yamb is the better one. He is very respectful towards you, talks very clearly, is passionate about what he teaches and genuinely makes you want to learn. I failed when I took this class with the other prof but got an A with this prof. I hope this shows you who is better at teaching.
Very good teacher
Great class and extremely engaging prof, even for 3 hour classes on a monday night he kept us alert, entertained and listening.
Amazing lectures and great teacher. Very passionate at teaching. I will recommend him. Great guy!
DGDs once a week. high expectations but is there to help. very passionate! can get an A+ easy if you pay attention to what he is saying and his guidelines. you can send your paper, essay, etc. a week before for some feedback. very helpful.
I'm an FLS student and I was worried I'd have lots of trouble understanding concepts in french, but he was an amazing prof! Explained things super clearly with tons of examples. He also made 3 hour night classes bearable with his jokes (he gives the class the option for 2.5 hours straight material or 3 hours with a break in between).
I love this man - he is soooo passionate about the material & that really translates into his lectures. Mandatory DGDs once a week - which were only graded on attendance. Im an FSL student and he was very understanding to the language gaps (which honestly wasn't that bad) that I experienced. Straightforward assignments which he really explains well
Absolutely fantastic. I'm a French Immersion student and was worried about not understanding concepts but I had no trouble at all. Very easy marker, definitely recommend.
It will be hard to fit everything within the character limit but, he refused to discuss my paper through email, I didn't want to go on call with him because he raised his voice at other students and told them they were wasting his time, then he stood me up twice and was upset when I didn't have the time to call him 1hour after the time he scheduled
Very good and passionate lecturer. One of the best for me at Uottawa. Many students are not taking time to read the outlines and all the clear instructions and don't even come to class. But they expect to get high marks with a minimum of commitment in reading. I strongly recommend his courses. Great guy and great teacher.
Very caring, passionate and dedicate lecturer. I enjoyed this class and I am looking forward to take another class with him.
This teacher is the goat, he's so caring and the mid terms are easy points! I recommend him 100% if you're looking for an easy class.
He explains very clearly what's on the exam, very easy class. Would take again.
Great teacher. Very caring and passionate at teaching. Will recommend him.
He is a very good and passionnante teacher. always available to guide and help.
Great teacher. Clear grading criteria about the exams. He is offering guidance to prapare all the exams.
Very good professor. Caring and explain clearly everything about the exams. Available to guide students preparing their exams. Strongly recommend him.
Very good and passionate lecturer.
Very good teacher. Very demanding for exams but caring and always available to help.
Good and caring teacher.
Great and passionate teacher.
Extraordinarily irresponsible, didn't show up in the entire first week and he will still staying home in the second, if I have the chance I will definitely NOT to choose his class, no matter what is the potential reason, his decision is shockingly rude.
This teacher is very passionate and caring. I like his way of teaching. Amazing lectures. Recommend him!
Great teacher!
Definitely a free credit course IMO. He gives you answers for the midterm before hand and they're very easy questions. The final exam is just a take-home. His lectures are just stuff you already read in the textbook so I don't really think it's that important to go to his lectures.
Prepare the students for the in class exams. Very passionate teacher.
Very passionate during lectures which makes them engaging. Gives practice midterms and his midterm questions are taken directly from the practice ones. You don't need to attend every lecture but I would recommend attending at least some. Highly recommend this elective and any other class he teaches because he wants all his students to succeed.
Class is mainly individual writing projects. Ask for extensions on assignments, he will grant them. Very procrastinator friendly. Occasionally goes on religious rants.
He was passionate, but I couldn't handle his yelling. Had migraines when I was in his class. Would recommend just learning stuff at home. His course format is very forgiving and he is very kind by giving us a lot of what to expect on midterms. Decent amount of time for the final but it is incredibly long and will take multiple days to complete.
Great teacher
Really easy class. The exam reviews are super helpful and prepare you really well for the midterm and final. Attendance is definitely optional
This class is easy to pass, all you had to do was to show up to the 5 DGDs and know how to write an essay. He gave the midterm questions in advance, the final paper was short and pretty straightforward. The classes themselves were messy but you do not really need to listen to them as you can just google the answer of the midterm. He is passionate.
His lectures were horrible. I can confidently say that I learned nothing from actually going to class and learned everything through reading his slides and the textbook. With that being said I would take his class again because everything was very straight forward and as long as you put the time in to study and prepare yourself it's an easy course.
Class wasn't that difficult, grade was based on three essays and you don't need to go to class (not helpful anyway). Doesn't answer emails or clarify much if you have any questions.
If you need to take bioethics, whether you speak English or French, ABSOLUTELY take this online class. One of the easiest A+ I've ever gotten, and you don't have to attend lectures. There are 3 texts to write, the first being a text summary of 400 words and the final, a 2000-2500 word essay. You don't need to do anything else besides that.
Interesting lectures. Textbook isn't entirely necessary as most of it is already covered in slides. Grading isn't particularly difficult but the take-home exam was somewhat challenging.
Imma be honest I went to maybe half the lectures. All of the information was on the slides and the prof gave out midterm skeletons. This class was really easy. I personally didn't love the professor's teaching style of just reading off the slides on the board though it got really boring.
Did not attend a single lecture, his syllabus outlines every assigment/paper (3 of them) and every piece of criteria he is looking for. He takes some time to answer his emails and can be confusing as to what specifics he is looking for but the marking is nice and lenient. Very nice about final mark boosting aswell
Honestly a bird class. I took it in the winter term and it was so goddamn easy. We were graded on like 3 tests (two midterms and exam) and got all the tests beforehand to memorize lol. Only fault is he has a thick French accent, but he's still really understandable anyway. Pretty much perfect other than that. I barely even went to class lol.
Professor Gervais' class is a bit of a mixed bag - lectures can be boring, but the content is straightforward. The exam reviews are super helpful, and unstuck study was a lifesaver for prep. Definitely an easy A as long as you put in the work.
Grades based on a mix of tests and assignments. The tests are far easier and the lectures are generally engaging though they can get dragged out. Will teach you what you need to know but may be vague at times. Clearly wants his students to succeed. Would recommend for Bioethics.
If this class is not a free A+, IDK what is free A+. You have all the mid-terms and final exam posted on brightspace at least a week before and he will choose half of the posted document to build your exam. As long as you pay a minimum of an hour effort at home for his exam, you will have a free A+. He gives extra points for those who go to class
The prof posts all the exams before you get them, which makes it extremely easy to study for, and makes it clear what you need to know. Clearly wants his students to succeed. 100% recommend.
The worst professor I have had at the university, he is unprofessional, class is extremely boring due to his teaching style, doesn't answer emails effectively, and genuinely just a lackadaisical professor.
i do fear that this prof, as passionate as he is, likes to yell... PROFUSELY. So much so that i had to stop attending to keep my hearing intact. Moreover, there is no communication between him and his TA's, which you could argue that its not this fault. That being said, it is his job to instruct his TA's on what to tell us. Also inturupts tests
Passionate teacher. Hard to follow sometimes. Prepare students for exams
Don't take this prof, I don't know how he is still allowed to teach at the university. He will cancel class on many occasions and will give what seems to be a convenient excuse every single time. He didn't even give us contact to the TAs and is very confusing and hard to reach via email.
Straightforward lecturer. Boring lectures sometimes and hard to follow. Not recommend this philosophy class.
Love him! Super lenient since he gives us all the exams as "samples" 2 weeks before. This is plenty of time to study and to get the best possible grade. He's going thru some health concerns rn so get well soon Yamb !! If you don't choose him, why are u overcomplicating life? Choose yamb for the damn class
His class was comedically easy, he gave the midterms /finals two weeks before taking them so you know what to study. He no showed to the midterm, no email (yes he has health issues but notifying us is important). You could condense the class into a 30 minute video. Take this for the easiest 100 of your life, but get ready to lose braincells.
I didn't find him accessible outside of class, however, it didn't matter because his class was so incredibly easy. He literally gives you the midterms and exams 2 weeks before, so literally just memorize all the answers and you'll be good, don't bother showing up to lectures, you'll pass with an A like me. Take this class and do yourself a favour
He is very straightforward with grading and clear about his expectations for written assignments. He is accessible by email and accommodating. I've taken two classes with him, and both were very enjoyable philosophy courses!
Genuinely one of the strangest classes I've taken. Poor communication when class was cancelled or moved online last minute, complained every day about the department telling him to use a textbook one of his colleagues wrote, and I constantly thought I had 0 idea what was going on even though I was getting high grades. Just odd, but not awful.
Intresting classes but biting sometimes
Great professor. I enjoyed his philosophy class on education. It was my first philosophy class in education.
Great teacher. Very interesting class. I enjoyed discussions.
The textbook is easy but the professor is so awful at teaching and makes it unnecessarily difficult.
I like the course and the energy of prof Yamb. Very charismstic and straight forward when dealing with the exams. Overall he is a very good professor.
Definitely the best prof I've had over my 3 years at Uottawa. Yamb is a great prof. Very clear instructions for the two exams, as well as the final take-home exam. Trust me when I say take his class.
I could not bring myself to attend too many lectures, I found it nearly impossible to grasp the concepts when he taught them. I had to teach myself much of the content. I was very lost, but at least his midterms were provided for us in advanced. Overall he is definitely not the worst prof I've had, he's got a great energy and lots of charisma.
Professor Yamb is a bad lecturer but extremely funny guy. I learned nothing from his lectures and instead had to take notes solely from the textbook, but his midterms are easy and lectures are entertaining. Class is graded 60% for 2 midterms and 40% for take home final exam. Take his class if you have the chance; you'll never be bored.
Professor Yamb is a very funny and caring prof. He gives midterm samples 2 weeks before each midterm and the final exam is a take home. Lectures are entertaining and enjoyable, the guy is hilarious. The course material is easy and can honestly be fun at times.
Incredibly patient and clear. His lectures are straightforward, and he is very transparent about exam criteria. His exams are not cumulative, and the final is open book. Mind you, the answers to most questions reside at the back of the textbook he allows us to have. It was also take-home, so I had plenty of time. Love this prof, 10/10.
Love this prof, wish all the other profs were like him. If you want a sense of hope in life take his class because you will feel successful.
The lectures are fairly confusing but he goes off on random tangents that are always really funny. He releases the midterms two weeks before the test. You do have to buy the textbook but it has all the answers to the midterms and final in it. The take home final is easy just a lot of writing. he is an amazing prof that wants his students to well.
I personally did not learn anything from the lectures, as he often goes on tangents and had to teach myself everything. He really encourages you to buy the textbook. I personally didn't use it much but it does have some of the answers for the midterms and finals. If you find it difficult to learn on your own then I wouldn't recommend.
