Best economics teacher at Harper. Will bend over backwards to help you.
excellent teacher, his class has no homework, and the midterm and final are group tests!!!
almost too helpful. reminds me of an indian bill cosby. great teacher!

very funny and at ease teacher
Very poor speaker, not clear at all.
This guy does everything he can do get you the grade you want. He curves, has open note tests, and gives yout he questions to the final!
He is a very helpful teacher. If he likes you, you will get a high grade in his class. Just as long as you read the chapters and show up. He will help you with anything.
NOT HOMEWORK AND GROUP TEST, QUIZ alot of group but sometimes his isn't clear with what you read when he writes stuff on the board.
the best teacher at Harper college. very understanding and flexible around sports schedules.
He is a smart professor. He will help you if you attempt to read the chapters and participate in class. He even let's us use your book for the test. Just don't talk when he's talking. If you really want to learn alot in econ take him, he goes in dept!
There is a language barrier, since he's not from the states. But he's always willing to take the time to help you understand the class. Ask! Participate. And study. If you do the work, you will do well in his class. Highly recommended.
Fun, smart, EDUCATED guy. DON'T EVER TALK while he's talking!! READ the chapter BEFORE going to class. ALWAYS show up to class- group quizzes where points adds up quickly and it's EASY! He curves test, gives you xtra credit, and willing to help!!
Do not talk while he's teaching. READ the material prior to class. Turn cell phones OFF and NO SLEEPING. Provides questions on the final and allows group quizzes. Recommend ECO 211.
BEST EVER, simple as that. TAKE HIM you will have no regrets unless you are a retard.
great teacher who wants to see his students learn the course, always helpful and patient. Makes the economic class seem very interesting

Great Teacher! I don't know how I passed his class. He helped me as much as he could. He encourages his students to ask questions if they don't understand. Also if he sees people falling asleep he WILL give a POP TEST! So try and look awake!
he cant speak english, his test format seems easy in the beginning but you wont get a good grade unless you can understand an ethiopian who mumble at the board. dropped his class and told me that i would have gotten a better grade if he knew my name. do not take him!!!
He is a relly smaet teacher, I enjoy the discuss with him. He can take any question, even some of them are really silly, but he still help you out. He won't give you hard time.We discuss everything related with economics! I like his class, and his teaching style!

best teacher ever!
Best Teacher
I thought he was great cuz he was very understand to you as a person. Offers extra credit. Test are really easy some are group. For the final he hands out before to review.
Can an Indian dude be any cooler? I think not! BEST TEACHER ever!!!
he is really very interested in seeing his students pass but he wont hand it to you on a platter he wants to make you work for it which is why we are all in school right? he will help you as much as he can and he remembers his students especially the smart ones and he will create every avenue to ma
Took him for both Mircoeconomics and Macroeconomics. I cant say I enjoyed the lectures. He confused me. The only good thing about him is he gives you the questions that might be on the final so you can find the answers before taking the test.
EASIEST CLASS EVER!!! out of 225 points, you will be able to get 25 points extra credit, tests are taking in groups, with open notes, or open book. He will give you 200 questions two weeks before the final, and 100 of the EXACT same questions will appear on the final.
He is a good teacher but you must read a chapter a week ON TIME! Or he will be mad at you the rest of the semester! He is very helpful but the lectures are confusing! Beaware the final is 40% of your grade so don't expect to raise your grade a lot! He's a very fair and willing to help teacher. Just don't talk when he is talking!
Comprehensive macroeconomic knowledge. Engaging, wants students involved in discussion. Tests are pretty tough, but he gives ample help and provides a 200 q. practice final, from which the 100 final exam questions are drawn. Many EC opportunities. Responsive to questions and e-mails. Good instructor.

Cool guy. Group tests open book. He is hard to understand but it is still easy to pass even if you dont know what the hell is going on

the idiot below: Can an Indian dude be any cooler? I think not! BEST TEACHER ever!!! ...hes ethiopian u moron hahaha...but hes awesome
A great teacher. Plz involve in discussion. Read chapter before class. If he like you, give you an A. Lots of extra credtis!!
He is the Best Teacher I ever had all I did is attaned his class but had no idea what was going on and still got an A. He makes it very easy. He rocks. Awsome teacher. Eary A even if u want to learn or not learn.
I did not learn anything. I did not understand anything. This class was a waste of my time. Don't take this teacher. Take someone else!!
It's a hard class, but he is a good teacher.
he is the best teacher i can ever ask for. if he likes you, A is guaranteed. Now, how does he like you? answer the questions he asks in class, no matter whether your answers are wrong. The point is: keep him happy!
GOOD TEACHER
Definately knows his stuff, due to accent, can be hard to understand, DON'T EVER interrupt/sleep in class, BE prepared for each class and you can get EC pts, almost weekly group quizzes, exams are hard but he gives out pts. He plays favorites. You can get an A w/o learning a thing about ECO.
he is a nice professor. you give and take respect. tests are really hard. will allow you to use any resources you want to in the final exam but still i scored a C in the exam. since i was in his "good list" he gave me an A. be honest with him. write his notes and he loves students who participates in the discussion.
A great professor. Has a doctorate, highly knowledgeable and helpful to students. Spends time to ensure that everyone understands. Passionate towards Economics. Dr. Begashaw is a GREAT teacher.
Best teacher!!! Very knowledgeable. Plus he gives you chances to do better in class.
Prof. Begashaw's lectures excell beyond your typical classroom lectures. He gives insight into how you can economically manage your college career. He attended University of Chicago and Michigan State. He is friendly and understanding. He makes Economics fun and treats you like a college student.
I took this class during summer school, and it was really enjoyable. It was very easy, and all the tests and quizzes were open note/book/whatever. Prof Begashaw is very clear in his expectations of students, and he loves the students who attend class and make an honest effort. He's funny and I highly recommend him.
I took his online class and it was pretty good. Exams were really tough, but if you worked hard, took the time to do the homework, and did all the quizzes, you can get an A no problem. Went to see him in office hours and he was really nice. Easy to get an A if he knows you work hard. He likes the smarties :]
A good professor who is extremely knowledgeable about the material. Class has the choice of open-book, open-note, or group for 3 of the 4 exams (can only use each choice once). The chapters are short and readable. Gives out extra credit liberally if you earn it. Be sure to read before coming to class. Easy to get an A if you are willing to study.
Begashaw is the best teacher for econ. he makes the class as easiest as possible, if he likes you he'll give you a good grade and he'll tell you that. his tests are hard, but if he knows that you studied and tried he'll give you a good grade. we only had 2 tests.
Prof. Begashaw is an excellent teacher, and a great man! He will help you as much as you need, and is very very nice. His tests are hard, but he will help you as much as possible. Be ready to read and study, though! But, you couldn't ask for a better teacher! Definitely take this teacher if you can!
I took his microeconomics class online. You have online quizzes to take, and if you get over 50% on them, he gives you full credit. Quizzes is only worth 50 points total, and the mid term is 100, and the final is 100. The avg. for the exams were in the 50's. But I believe he will curve it. (Or at least I hope so)
He was a fun teacher, a little hard to understand at times, but was very nice and always willing to help. If you ask questions, you get on his good side and can get extra points. I got C's and D's on my tests (econ is not my strong suit) and I still managed to get an A+. Both my brother and I had him and liked him.
He was ok but I dont get all the high praise for him, he def wasnt one of the best. I personally dropped the class bc he went through the units so fast and if you miss one class your completely lost. Material was hard and had to do alot of self teaching. Also his accent was hard to understand for me. But maybe that was just my take on him.
I took the online class. He is a very nice teacher and extremely understanding. If you get on his good side he will help you out in the end. I failed both tests after studying a long time and talked to him about it... and in the end he bumped up my grade to a B. if he knows you try he will give you extra points. Take this teacher!
Good professor who enjoys his subject and is actively involved in it. The bottom line is he is very nice. If you put forth any effort getting an A should be possible. He curves tests and gives decent extra credit. If you speak in class you can get extra points. He likes teaching best when the students are engaged and talking.
I took my very first Econ class, Micro with this professor. I took it online. The class was VERY difficult but the teacher was great, approachable in his office and a great help. Get on his good side and put forth the effort and you'll get a good grade. If you have to take Econ, take this guy for sure!!! He will help you pass!
This professor is awesome!!! If you need to take an economics course; take his class. The class is really challenging whether you take it online or on campus. If you work hard and put forth an effort you will at least get a "B". He is very accessible has office hours during the day and responds to email within 24-48 hrs. This is the class to take!!
Extremely useless teacher. I would suggest him for anyone wanting a easy C. I showed up to every class and got the second highest test grades in his class and still ended up with a B. He will only give 1 A a semester. Only good thing is he never fails anyone, so if u wana take a easy C, go for him, but if ur like me and are going for As, then dont.
GREAT
Amazing teacher! I took the 5 wk online class and it was extremely hard.. I was so stressed the week of finals and studied at least 4 hrs everyday and still didnt get it.. but he sees effort and will give u a good grade if u try! I bombed the final and still got a B in the class! Im so happy I took this class with him!
Very knowledgeable, but is not good at teaching the material. The quizzes and tests were very difficult. Not necessarily due to the material covered in the book, but the fact that his questions are incomprehensible. If you're an Econ major, this class will make your future classes tougher to follow.
The best teacher you can ask for. I took the online course (blended) where it wasn't mandatory to show. If you come to class anyways, do all homework & T/F and tell him you want to do well, you'll get an A. It's a difficult course but just make effort and you'll be fine. I would of had a D but he gave me an A for 'trying'...unheard of! TAKE HIM
I agree with a previous rater. The tests are incomprehensible. Many of the answers are actually wrong. I'm an A student. I sailed through Macro but had a very difficult time with this class. I would take the class with Healy if possible.
Really clear spoken
The man himself is pleasant and helpful, but his online course is a headache. The book is easy to read & understand, but his tests are horrible. The questions make no sense & most of the answers are wrong. But he's a good guy who will help you if you're struggling if you make the effort.
Asks students how they want to be taught and will teach how you want to learn. Teaches bare minimum but will go in depth if asked. HW is optional & not counted towards your grade. Easy quizzes but your grade is of 2 tests that=80% of your grade. Tests are hard, but he is an easy C teacher. 60-79%=C. Not too hard to get a B, very hard A class though
His online practice quizzes are hard because of the confusing sentence structure, wrong answers, and material not covered. Tests are like that too. Gives random quizzes which make up half your grade and you cannot retake them if you miss the class day. Can't understand what he is saying. Boring class.
One of the worst instructor. Accent +strict + boring. I will not recommend this instructor.
One of the worst instructor in Harper. I warn you not to take this instructor. High accent. Not worth it.
I enjoyed his class very much. He is very passionate about economics and really knows what he is talking about. If you ask questions he will make sure to explain it in great detail! I don't know why people are complaining, the exams are departmental so there is not much you can do about that. Just dont be lazy and actually Study!
Awesome teacher!
Getting used to an accent is no big deal. If you don't understand something, ask! He does a great job explaining until you get it. He writes the test, so some questions were hard to understand which is what made it difficult. Lots of studying and practice outside of class is what got me an A. Overall, such a nice, fun guy to have as a teacher!
loved econ with this professor! he was interesting and helpful! good take !
Worst instructor. Did not understand the word he was talking. Gives you two attempt on exam. Get ready to read. I will not recommend him. WORST.......
Worst online class. Two tests make your grade. Does not respond to emails. No homework given. Never posts anything extra to clarify readings.
took online. only had to do homework assignments and 1 exam (dropped 2nd exam because no one had done the online homework). I got all the homework done in the first 2 weeks. get all the work right, take the exam online and its an easy A! Was not clear via email on directions and had to go to campus to make sure i was completing right homework.
I have taken numerous online courses before and this is set up as a 100% self-taught class. There was almost no communication to the class throughout the semester and the only materials provided to learn are textbook publisher materials. I received an A but can't say that I learned very much from this class. Easy A if you are ok teaching yourself.
Pretty funny dude, hard to understand sometimes, but it's pretty much a do it yourself course, show up to class to review in lecture, gives you 100% on Homework as long as you get 50% or higher and gives points just for participating in group quizzes and random extra credit throughout the course for showing up to class, only 2 exams and curved both
Awsome prof
The best teacher ever. I took the fast truck class with him and would do it again if I have to. He didnt make us stay the full 4 hours every time and that helped a lot because I didnt get bored and would go home and have time to read. Be is the best
Took his online class. I did not find him to be helpful at all. I sent 1 email and never got clear answer. His class is totally "tech yourself" with not notes or lectures . 2 tests decide your grade and they are open book and open notes but still hard. A lot of useless homework . I got an A but spend a lot of time studying. Not easy class.
basically makes you teach the subject to yourself.
Horrible. No lectures. Took blended class: half online half in class. He does not tech at all. Self study. If you need knowledge stay away
Never take his summer class. the book he picked has no equations in it, so when you go and do the online homework you have no idea what you're even doing. the homework allows us to get 3 attempts at each questions to get a better grade, but this guy takes the average. if you got a 0/3 on the first try and a 2/3 on the second you only get a 1/3.
I took his summer class. He doesnt know how to teach. You have to learn everything yourself. Not an esay A. He is hard to understand most of the time too. Dont take his class.
He is a horrible teacher. He makes you learn everything yourself and he is really hard to understand most of the time.
He is the best professor I have ever had. Kind, sweet, patient, helpful and understanding.
You teach yourself everything. The syllabus requirements did not match up with his requirements on Blackboard. When I e-mailed him saying I was confused, he was extremely rude and condescending. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES.
He is a straight G! Really cares about his students and if you take the time to meet with him he will make you you do well! Take him he is amazing such a sweet amazing teacher! Teachers like him are what make Harper such a good school, absolutely loved him
he is an absolute G!!!! take him, he is the sweetest man ever and really wants his students to suceed! you will not regret taking him!!!!
A simply stunning man! He does ANYTHING he can on his end to help you succeed. You must keep up with your chapters ( just like in any other class) to achieve a passing grade. Attempt to participate, that way the course can flow with ease.
Didn't teach anything, favorite quote: "don't you think that female politicians are inherently more trustworthy then male politicians?" Prepare for a self-taught course where the computer is a real person who talks down to you
I took this class online, and I am so glad I did. He sends out one email at the beginning of class with the online homework you need to purchase and gives you a date it needs to be done by. I was able to finish the class in 6 weeks instead of the full semester. The homework takes awhile but it is pretty easy and you're able to get an A.
I had professor Begashaw for micro and macro and his lectures were very long and tough to sit through. For being so lecture heavy, you still end up having to teach yourself everything from the textbook. There is no point in taking this class in-person/blended. Just do it online. He's also can be passive-aggressive in emails and in-person so beware.
Funny guy. Textbook needed. No final. Points are based on homework. All of the chapter homework is due by the end of the semester so he gives you the flexibility to manage it on your own.
Great class and professor! Follow the syllabus and you'll succeed. Stay ahead of homework assignment due dates (don't procrastinate) and you'll pass with flying colors.
Great professor and an easy class. All of the assignments are due by the end of the semester and there's no final. Don't procrasinate and you'll do amazing. I was able to finish all my work three weeks early since it is a self paced class
I finished the whole class in a week. Enough said.
Easy A with this Professor! Simply finish the homework and you're done. The only problem with this course is you have to teach yourself the material.
He is super intelligent and a nice guy. He will explain everything very clear. The only problem is the pressure to participate in class. He will get mad if you don't ask him questions and it will be super uncomfortable.
I took the honors section of this course and it was online. As a class, we had 4 zoom meetings to discuss the group paper that took place of our final. He is a bit hard to understand on zoom. Doesn't teach anything, all self-taught with the textbook and homework problems, however the textbook was easy to understand and homework was manageable.
It's an easy class. You have to read the book and do homework after each chapter. No due dates, all work is due at the end of the semester so you can manage your time. The only thing is that you teach yourself, with no lectures or explanation of the material from the professor. But he doesn't demand much.
Easiest class I have taken in my entire life, and likely ever will. Entire course was 13 extremely short and easy homework assignments. No tests or projects. You can finish this course extremely early into the semester with minimal effort.
Easy course. Finished in two weeks. Will have to teach everything yourself tho.
The class consisted of reading the chapters and doing the corresponding homework assignments. No tests, no quizzes. All points came from homework. Everything was very straightforward.
Grade is evaluated only on homeworks and you have 3 rights for questions in homework. You have time all semester to do the homework. Overall it was a good class. Mr. Begashaw is a very respectful and devoted teacher. Highly recommended for ECO211.
11 Weeks of homework - Reading/Homework (All due by December 16th) Homework is worth 20 points 7 questions on average in each hw with 3 attempts per question. Homework is assigned once a week on Sunday Reading is 15 pages per week. Most homework is easy and tbh you can skip the reading (just do the quizzes inside the online book) u can guess
Took honors. The homework was easy, but sometimes time consuming. He really doesn't like when people don't participate in class. I'd recommend taking online. There is a group paper and presentation for honors, but if you sound like you know what you're talking about you get an A. If you're the quiet kid that sits in the back, he isn't for you.
Great professor to take online. If you lack time management, don't take online courses. This class was prepared well for me, and I finished the whole course in February! He responded to my emails in a fair time but overall took econ with this teacher!
Really easy class. Don't procrastinate and wait till the end of the semester to do all the homework like I did and you'll get an A.
Everything graded for points is labeled. Just read the flashcards and then take the quiz for the chapter. You get 3 attempts at each question (they aren't the same question if you redo it but they're very similar) if you get something wrong see what you did wrong and then retake it. It only takes a few days to finish if you know what you're doing.
I took his online Microeconomics class. All work is due the last week of the semester. No tests. The only thing graded is the homework assignments where you can have 3 total attempts at each question for full credit. Its all taken through Cengage. I was able to finish everything in about 2 days. The online textbook and previous knowledge will work.
I took his blended honors class, which is mostly online. As many have said, all work is due at the end of the semester, but I recommend working on it weekly if you want time to read parts of the textbook and actually understand the work. It is on Cengage. For honors we had a group paper, which was pretty easy to complete. Very easy class.
Only met 4 times IP. Very sweet guy, online textbook HW assignments make up most of your grade. However, try to not procrastinate!! You will save yourself a lot of time/stress if you can do a chapter a week. Honors version of this class also has a group term paper but it's not as bad as it sounds. He's available for help if you email him.
easy class, cool teacher.
Prof Begashaw is great, this course is entirely self-paced and you get 3 tries on all of the graded work. Great guy
Mr. Getachew was one of the best professors I have ever had, he did a wonderful job putting out a clear image of what he expected from all his students. Extremely helpful in terms of fast response via email, very understanding, and respects student's schedule.
Professor distances himself from the class. When it opened. He didn't even make a post. He unlocked his post from the year before. Email responses give terrible feedback. Easy class though. Only graded on tests. No midterms or finals. Every question on test is not timed and you have 3 attempts.
Spring '24: Easily one of the best professors for an online ECO course. Finished the class in under a month. It was all self paced, yet I still took away lessons from the course. The syllabus was very concise so the class was laid out for what to expect. There are 13 homework assignments & you get 3 tries. Manage your time well & you'll pass easily
Self paced course. Finished within the first month. Only tests are graded but you have 3 tries per test. EASY A
Self paced online macroeconomics. No tests or finals, just homework. Easy A.
No exams or quizzes. Only grades are homework assignments that are self paced. 10/10 would take again- easy A
