Known as Accent, it's hard to understand what he's saying. Thankfully, he gives you your entire lecture in the PowerPoint presentation, so you know what's being said.
Terrible accent. Hard to understand. Makes no exceptions.
STAY AWAY ! I TOOK DR. G FOR MY STATISTICS 121 CLASS, AND I ENDED UP DROPPING THE CLASS. HIS TESTS ARE NOT HARD, BUT IT IS HARD TO LEARN FROM HIM. HIS ACCENT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT, AND HE JUST COULDN'T TEACH ME. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS MAN I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE! HIS IS NICE, BUT I HAD TO TRY AND TEACH MYSELF EVERYTHING. STAY AWAY
Doesn't go over anything on homeworks
Did not understand his teaching style. He gives many problems (approx 75) for practice for the quiz which contains 9 or 10 questions only
One of the best math professors I've ever had. He cares more about you understanding and learning than memorizing how to do every variation of every type of problem to ever exist (although he will attempt to teach you ever variation). He is willing to help students with any question they have and is an overall nice guy.
Dr. Gidelew is an amazing Calculus Professor. He is very detailed and organized. He knows the material very well. He cares so much for his students. If you don't learn calculus in his class, believe me, you will not learn with any other professor. You must be very dumb to complain in his class! Attend his lecture, take his notes, and practice.
He is really smart. He sometimes goes above the level of the course, but otherwise I enjoyed his class. He knows every student in his class by name. The class was engaging and challenging. His expectation is very high. He expects you to work very hard some lazy people don't like this. Some students mentioned about his accent. Who cares about accent
Awesome Professor! Would definitely take him for other math classes. Genuinely cares for his students.
Dr. GG has been by far the best professor I have had in my college career. He is dedicated, helpful, caring, and genuine. Dr. GG loves what he does, and it shows. If you have the opportunity to take him, DO IT!
Professor Gidelew is probably one of my favorite professors here definitely looks interesting and teaches pretty well. Made Calculus seem easier than I heard. As far as grading goes he's pretty fair and will help you if you show interest in helping yourself. You can tell he enjoys teaching. Need extra help? He is always willing to help you.
I am taking Dr. Gidelew's Calculus class now. He is a great professor. He really cares about students' learning the concept. Preparedness for class and class participation are crucial because he will randomly call on students. He gives lots of homework assignments and makes you work so hard, but you will learn Calculus. Over all a great profess.
He's tough, but fair, and he'll make you love math and work hard. Definitely not for those looking for an easy A, but if you want to learn Calculus, he's one of the best Calculus professors in DCCC. He is always willing to go out of his way to help his students. Loved him!
Dr. Gidelew is undoubtedly the best professor I have ever had. His knowledge of the subject incredible and I will miss his amazing lectures. What I learned in his class is invaluable. He is so dedicated for teaching. There is no way to fail his class unless you just don't care. I would definitely take a second class from him. Great professor!
Professor Gidelew is a wonderful professor. He teaches in depth and gives a lot of examples in class. I found his teaching style (show one and do one) very helpful. He makes sure everyone understands the material by randomly asking each student. Ask any question, he is always wiling to help you and you will never feel dumb for asking any question.
Awesome Professor!
Dr. Gidelew is one of the best professors I have had so far. I really enjoyed his way of teaching. He gives a lot of practice problems, test reviews and make us work very very hard. Go to his class if you really want to learn Calculus, but if you want an easy pass, don't. What I liked the most is his dedication to help us understand the concept.
Nice Person & Great Professor. My friend took the same course with a different professor. What they learned and what we learned are QUITE different. We have learned so MUCH. I finished two 150 pages nonebooks. His exam is not easy, but he gives practice problems a week prior to the exam. Make sure to do the practice sheet. Amazing professor!
Excellent teacher and very likable. He is realy good at explaining the concept. But his assignments and tests are very tough. Make sure to attend every class. You miss a class, you will be out of game. First it is Calculus, second he teaches a lot of materials outside the textbook. He gives a lot of examples and asks questions randomly. Nice guy!
Very smart professor. I really enjoyed his class.
Very good professor but usually teaches beyond the scope of the course. He really makes you work very hard as many of the reviewers mentioned. But his exam is reasonable. We took exam 2 today and it wasn't as hard as we though. I would definitely recommend him for more advanced courses like calculus and beyond. Make sure to attend his lecture.
Professor Gidelew's class was online and self instructed, although you have to show up to the actual classroom. He provides all of his students with explanation and different ways of solving the math problems, which is a huge help. He wants to see his students succeed and offers a massive amount of support and motivation. Great, intelligent guy.
I wouldn't recommend that you choose Dr. GG if you don't learn math easily. I took MAT 135, v simple w/ a different professor. Luckily, I took Calc in H.S. and it took some outside of class effort, but I was able to swing an A. From talking to classmates, many are close to failing and struggle w/ his teaching style. Take another prof if you can!
Professor Gidelew is an amazing professor who care for his students a lot. I recommend to take him for any class if you want to learn Math. Unlike many professors he demands a lot. He wants you to work hard and actually learn the material. I never thought I would understand calculus at but now I have a 90+ average. Wants to learn calculus?take him.
Dr. Gidelew is a huge advocate of student success. He is very kind, hard working and smart person. There is no nonsense in his class. He gives so many examples and shows you every step. I finished three notebooks in his calculus class this semester. Math is not my favorite subject but he made it so simple and I got my confidence back. Love him.
Doctor Gidelew is a great professor who teaches passionately, inspiring and very encouraging. Often times he would go out of his way to help the weak students. I really enjoyed his class a lot. Although Statistics is a difficult class, he took his time to make sure everyone was on track. He would randomly call students by name and ask questions.
He is just amazing! He teaches very thorough, explains very well, works with every student one on one. I have never seen a professor carrying for his students like him. Wow!!!!!!
He is AWESOME!
Dr. Gidelew is an excellent professor. Even though we started class three weeks ago, you can tell his passion for teaching and knowledge of Calculus. I enjoyed his class so far. I particularly like his motivational advices, his high standard expectations, and his problem solving styles He breaks down every step of the way. He wants us to succeed.
Christine was awesome! Explains things clearly. Very friendly, easy going, and genuine. Gives lots of extra credit and room to succeed. A ton of graded mylabs homework and quizzes. If you do it you will be good for the tests. Tests are open-ended and she gives partial credit. Notes are posted online. I wish she taught precalc/calc.
Dr. Gidelew is an excellent professor but his exam is very challenging. His expectation is extremely high. He gives a lot of homework assignments both online and on paper, which I thought was a good idea to have both.
Honestly one of the best professors I have had at the Community College. He prepares students for Calc 3 and above.
Dr. Gidelew is a tough but very nice guy. His teaching style was great(not too fast and not too slow) and his expectation is very very high. He gives lots of homework and practice problems. Make sure you do the practice problems! He is accessible to help outside the classroom. What I like most about him is his positive attitude and encouragment
He is amazing. Very organized, confident, knowledgeable, respectful, kind and caring. He is also very helpful outside classroom. I always struggle in math but this is the only math class I truly enjoyed learning because of him. He changed my attitude toward math. I Would definitely take him again. Thanks GG! You are awesome.
He's a very nice teacher, respect him and his teachings and you will pass guarantee.
He is awesome!!!
He may seem stern and unapproachable, but he is honestly a great guy. Hes caring, supportive, and always willing to help. Be kind and patient, and he will treat you the same way. Try your best! He really appreciates your best effort and hard work. This was an 18 week course, but I finished in 3 weeks because of his help.
I heard before I registered in his class that he was a tough professor. But I found him one of the best and the most caring one. He truly cares for your success and always there to help if you are willing. He breaks down the difficult calculus problems and shows you every step. He does a lot of examples in class. However, his exam is challenging!!
Prof. Gidelew is a great professor. He teaches thoroughly and explains very well. He also gives lots of examples, which helps a lot to learn calculus. He is always available to help his students outside of the classroom. But his exam is not so easy. He gives a lot of practice problems before each exam and expects us to do each and every problem.
Doctor Gidelew is selfless. He cares for his students learning. He makes sure everyone in class is ready at all times and no one gets bored in his class. He is very smart. Oh yeah, he doesnt like texting or using cell phones during his class. He would ask you to leave the class otherwise. Though his exam is not easy, his grading is fair.
I would NOT recommend this Professor to anybody who is willing to take a Statistics or Math course. This professor is a very tough grader, loves to cram lessons and or assignments in and it makes it difficult for many students. He favors other students, and had an attitude with most of my classmates. For your own sake, do NOT take this Professor
As far as I know, this professor is the most recommended and respected professor. I took him because I was recommended by a couple of my friends. I had no issues at all. His exam is 100% similar to his practice sheet. He prepares review sheet before each test. His standard and expectation is high. Never seen him biased or show attitude to anyone.
GG is the best professor ever I ever had. He explains the material very well and makes sure you understand it. Show up, do your work, participate and you will finish with an A. He is a tough but fair grader and wants you to succeed. Although his exams were tough, they were fair. Also, don't use your phone in class, he doesn't like that.
Gidelew was one of the worst professors I have ever had. He was extremely unhelpful. He seems to get some good reviews, but in my class he was awful. He used to teach at Temple and now is at DCCC. I'm sure there is a reason as to why he went from a D1 university to community college. Amazing how a guy with a doctorate can be so incompetent.
Doctor Gidelew is a solid choice for Calculus. You can't go wrong with him. If you hate math like me but need a math course, take him. He explains very well and makes the material interesting and easy. Answers emails promptly and isn't one of those professors who seems bothered to answer an email. He truly cares about your success. He is Amazing!
Extremely difficult and demanding professor. You can count on doing 100-200 problems each week, some on material not gone over in class.
Professor Gidelw is a wonderful professor. he takes his time to explain the difficult material and makes it really easy. I also like his teaching style. He cares for everyone in the class. Yes, he makes you work very hard and expects you to understand the concept. He is also accessible outside class. His Review session is also very helpful!
Dr GG is one of the most caring professors you'll meet. He does not hand out free A grades, you earn them. This course is easy if you do all the homework, and challenge yourself to do those extensively difficult and hard problems. Comprehension is key, GG will always be willing to help you. Excellent professor.
Dr. GG is by the far the most outstanding teacher I have ever had. I am not a math major and this was my favorite class of all time. Dr. GG provides all the tools with his meticulous lecture. He explains the material thoroughly and is there to help if needed. On a personal note he is highly respected, kind and fair. I wish I could take him again.
He told us that sections were easy and we could teach them to ourselves. Not cool.
Do yourself the favor and do NOT take this class with this professor or take a class with this professor. Always in your business, literally stands behind you and watches you do the work. Butts in even if you didn't ask for help because he wants to rush you ( even though this class was a self paced class) Rude. He will call you out for no reason!
Dr. Gidelew is a great choice for Calc 1 during the summer, although be prepared to put a lot of time and energy into the class. He's also very friendly and accessible outside of class as well.
Very intelligent guy, very little respect for students. I took a summer class with him, three hours a day, and then he would assign two or more hours of homework with no respect to students having other things in their lives (work, family, other mandatory obligations). I spent 5+ hours a day doing the work he assigned and still managed to struggle
One of the best math teachers I have had. Dr. Gidelew is driven to be sure everyone gets an A. Tons of homework, but only about a third of it is collected and graded. You can't succeed in math without plenty of practice doing problems, so avoid math if you don't want to work hard. He will do all in his power to help you succeed. Great lectures.
This has to be the hardest class ive taken yet in this college. I am an honor student who has even taken accelerated courses but this course has to be the hardest. He gives so much homework its impossible to finish it in a week and understand it without rushing. he gives major exams (50 ?s) plus h/w and reading in a week. Dont recommend him.
Out of all the professors I've ever had, Professor Gidelew was by far the worst one. He makes snide remarks that make students feel bad about themselves during class. He would announce some people's grades out loud during class. At times, he'll rush through chapters and then give you an Exam.
GG is a very intelligent guy, and it seems like he really enjoys to teach and I enjoyed this about him. However, we was terrible in about every other aspect. He typically assigned homework that had nothing to do with his lectures, and then in the notes there is nothing to help you. Rushed lessons. Told us tests would open book then changed mind....
Unless you are a genius at math he doesnt really care, he will SAY he does but he actually doesnt and will let you flounder. Biggest issue I had with him was before our last test he told us it would be open note on monday and then changed his mind the day of the test. He was too sporadic. Pretty much untrustworthy and often made snide comments.
Would spend 2 hours on the easiest topic leaving the harder ones for my classmates to figure out. Unless you have a strong understanding of pre calc (basically memorized)then GG will not be able to help you. As a person, he is a hard worker and will grade assignments quickly but he is pretty lazy in the classroom and with difficult questions
Terrible Prof. Weird understanding of how a class is supposed to be run. Confusing and was confused often himself. Do not take him if you are someone who likes a schedule. Tons of homework.
An awful teacher (not sure if it was just the transition to online learning though). Spends an hour on the easiest examples and skips over hard ones, making you learn them on your own. When he asks what we have trouble on, or where we need help, he dismisses us and says "no thats easy you shouldnt have trouble" and moves on without an explanation.
WOuld make you feel terrible about asking a question. Would speak to you like it was the easiest question on earth and you were a moron for not getting it.
So Much Homework. Did not feel comfortable asking questions or imputing during lecture due to the snide comments about them being bad questions "that is easy, not answering that"etc. Changed format of a test day of (inducing when the test was due reducing the time significantly) because we "did not participate enough in lecture that day"
I emailed/called the professor multiple times and I got no response. He didn't even show up for the zoom call meetings for two of the three days the second week of the course. On friday when he decides to show up for class he tells us that there is a quiz due by midnight. I ended up dropping the class in order to save my grade. Waste of my time.
It wasn't as hard as I expected. I like calculus, so I enjoyed this class. Of course you need to dedicate some time to it, but it wasn't crazy. I took winter accelerated class, in the first week was a lot of homework, after that, just few hours per day, not everyday and the homework of the week was done! Midterm and Final are proctored, be ready!
Find a different professor. In fact, find a different college as DCCC does not offer any asynchronous online classes for the calculus department and the professors available for night courses have been bad in my experience. There is no need for pop quizzes. This isn't high school anymore. See the other negative reviews - they're pretty accurate.
Do not take this professor. Worst Professor with rational thinking for students. He can teach but ask him for help he gets frustrated you don't know it already. He will teach a lecture and give a quiz on the same day for it. No chance to do homework. The same quizzes take 3 hours to do. If you decide to take him get your ibuprofen and Tylenol ready
If your goal is to get math credits out of the way, find a different professor. If your goal is to challenge yourself, put in the work, and learn calculus; enroll in Dr. G's class. He teaches as much and as clear as he can, but in order to truly succeed you need to dedicate time outside of class to working with the problems.
If you put in the effort, participate, and make that clear he will as well. He is one of the most supportive professors at DCCC. This is difficult material, regardless of your teacher, Calc II is a "weed out" course. Listen to his lectures, do the readings, ask questions, and offer to answer his questions most importantly.
He doesn't offer extra credit and he makes that clear in his syllabus. Took this during summer II. First half of the class was not that hard but once you get to chapter 8-10 is when I saw the "mean" in the class data start to shift very low. Midterm and Final are proctored on zoom. If I failed I wouldn't take him again.
I have never had so much trouble keeping up in a course. 5+ hours a day, 7 days a week MINIMUM. Summer II course so everything was at a faster pace but the amount of work was completely unreasonable. I would have dropped if I did not need this course before the fall. He isn't flexible at all. Super disappointed with the way this course turned out.
Oh my god. By the grace of god I passed with an A. This was the hardest class I've taken at dccc hands down. It was SO much work it's not even funny. The final is probably the hardest and he doesn't offer extra credit. He shows no mercy. Wouldn't recommend to take him during the summer!
he is a hard professor, but learned a lot and was definitely challenged
Chose a different teacher and or class. First for test he would say certain material would not be in the test but the day of the test he would tell of us to read certain material that would be covered on the test, which was not covers in class. He spent too much time on certain units and left us one class before the final to learn the last unit.
Pretty decent professor overall, I had him for Calc 1 and 2. Be prepared in Calc 2 to face a rock to your face with the work but Calc 1 is actually really good with him.
One of the best Calc teachers in the school for students that will be taking higher level math courses after. His class is very tough, but if you complete the review packets multiple times and go to the office hours, then you will do fine. Most importantly now that I'm in hard EGR and MAT classes I'm so thankful I took GG cause he's a real G
Please for the love of god spare your self. Will have a 3 hour lecture then say you have a quiz and hw due tn even though it's already 9:30PM. Doesn't respond to emails and if he does it isn't the right response. DCCC also told me it was all online but a week before the class I find out its inperson exams. ACL tear hurts less than this class.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He might be the worst professor I have ever had. Also the least caring. Way too much work that isn't useful to exam. Will tell you about something when a lecture is ending and say it will be on the exam coming up. Be considered lucky if he can actually respond to a question properly. He doesn't respond to emails.
Assigns multiple hours of homework per day. We have 70 problems due on the last day of class (2 days before the final). Will get through less than 5 easy problems in his 3+ hour lecture, then assign a 2 hour long quiz on what he just "taught" due the same night. None of this is an exaggeration. Do not take if you have a job, life, or other classes
Just dont take him. DCCC needs to review how he teaches. I dont often say this about a professor but he is useless. Classes barely teach you anything, then will give up to 50 HW questions that are much harder than you learned in class. Gets frustrated when asked to many questions. Won't respond to emails in a timely manor.
350 characters isn't enough. I should have taken the bad reviews more seriously because most of them are true. Visibly annoyed when anyone asks a question. Decides to assign not one, not two but THREE quizzes out of the blue ontop of the homework you already have to do. Description on Registry says all online but turns out its a hybrid. Avoid.
AWFUL TEACHER. He'll spend a 3 hour lecture reviewing material from a prerequisite course and then make you learn the rest on your own. He told me I could take the final exam on a different date and then changed his mind after I had already bought a plane ticket for the date of the final and he refused to allow me to take it on the promised date.
Dr. GG is hands down one of the best professors I've had at DCCC. He's always available to help, and from the very first day, he's been clear and thorough about everything. Put in the effort, and be prepared to learn a lot with him! I would recommend him a thousand times over—he's an outstanding instructor.
He was a great professor. I had him for just four weeks and I feel like I learned much more from him than my prior professor for MAT 135.
This guy sets up his classes in the worst way possible, if you miss one assignment youre perpetually behind. His assignments require a certain percentage be attained on the previous one, if you miss one assignment the late penalty makes it impossible to ever complete the next assignment.
He takes 3 hours for lectures and makes it seem like it's easy to learn all the work by yourself and keep saying just keep trying. Out of 22 people only 9 was left that's tells you a lot of him. He would have homework due the next day right after a lecture He said if you have hobbies you won't be able to pass you need to have 15 hours for class
Do not. The short answer is do not. He gives incomprehensible amount of homework to keep up with. Like I am talking about 5 days of deadline with 172 questions. Never, ever allows an extended deadline. I have skipped work so I can keep up with the homework and studying this guys class needs. There is a lot to say but 350 letter limit.
Take this review seriously; and seriously, don't. He teaches as if his class is the only thing you should focus on in your life. Mandatory attendance. TONS of homework. Pop quizzes. Slow email responses. Avoid.
Took Dr. GG in Calculus 2, and now again in Diff. EQ. He is a great professor overall; the in-class problems will always be a little harder. He is very lenient when it comes to asking questions, and makes sure that he is interpreting your question correctly. Adding to that, he does not mind "stupid questions", like asking about simple algebra.
test heavy and reads off of slides. Harsh grading and paced too fast to properly understand. odd times for office hours and sometimes not even there.
