Mr. Nasr is a very good professor. He is nice, helpful, and encouraging. Sometimes he says the nerdiest things but he is a funny guy. The class was very easy. I didn't study too much and got an A. The thing that helped me out alot were the reviews he gave before the tests. Do the homeworks! those help too! I recommend him.
The class was very hard, but mr. nasr was a GREAT teacher. very funny and encouraging. always nice and polite. best attitude of any teacher i've had so far. :)
I recommend this teacher. BUT DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. You can by mymathlab online for cheaper. The reviews made the class so easy. EASY AS PIE!
He is a good teacher. If you do the homework you will be fine. The reviews do help out ALOT! I hardly used my textbook. He gives you a week to do homework and I highly recommend him to other students.
Gus was an awesome professor!! I would definitly recommend him to anyone! I got an A. All you really have to do is show up to class and study the review.. the review is exactly like the test! EXACTLY! Gus is also really helpful.. if you have any questions he is always willing to help! If you want an easy A .. take him!
Gus is great at helping those who help themselves. If he sees you in class everyday and gets emails from you, he knows you are trying and does a great job making sure you reach your goals. He almost ALWAYS extends HW deadlines if you ask him to.tests are not that easy, but he gives a helpfull review.a little bit of an accent sometimes
Very good professor. Though he can be hard to understand sometimes due to his accent, he is funny and entertaining. Very helpful if you ask. He does talk fast during lecture though. Do homework and test reviews for easy A!
Cool dude. Homework assignements online are very helpful. No book. He has bad hadnwriting lol. Not a hard class, just take notes and pay attention.
Gus is such a good professor. Has a small accent but you can understand him clearly. Hes also very caring which is nice to have. He even takes the time to send us email reminders to let us know when homework is, quizzes are, and tests are. There are only 3 tests and a final. Very easy. Highly recommended.
Omg, Gus is such a fun professor. He is very helpful and will take the time to answer any questions you have. His accent is a bit thick, but you get use to it. Oh and he actually e-mails you to remind you when homework is due and when the quizzes and tests are.
I recommend this prof, his nice & does lots of examples in class so that everyone gets it. hw is online along with the bk if you want it so class is pretty easy..just makes sure u attend class b/c he kind of takes attendance..but if u need to miss class just email him & his cool with it! I'm taking him again for spring :)
This guy takes the defintion of a cool professor. He makes SURE you get the material and his reviews are really helpful for the tests. Homework is all online and it is hard at times but it is much harder than the tests which he does on purpose so we ACE the class like I did!
I would recommend this teacher!! he is great and understanding if you participate and go to class. is very helpful and tests are the exact same as the review that he hands out and goes over before the test although with number changes. AMAZING teacher! TAKE HIM!
Great professor! Extremely helpful and makes concepts/formulas easy to remember. Best professor for those pursuing sci/eng degrees!
"Gus" is a great math professor because he takes the time to answer all questions and does many examples. Homework is online, and he emails reminders for homework and tests. The reviews are very helpful for each test.
Whatever you do don't talk in this class! I found him to be condescending when asking him a question in class, but if you talk with him one on one he is pretty nice.
He is really a good teacher if you go up to him one on one, but by first impression you might not like him. He really cares about his students although he might not show it. I promise if you try and show effort he is a great teacher to have!
THE best math teacher in UTSA! So helpful and so willing to teach his students. Breaks down every single problem and makes it so easy to understand. I was not good at math at all and was always worried. Gus made math fun to learn for me.
The teacher is real nice and he makes math fun to learn. Going to class is not mandatory but it will help in the long run. However, even though I got a D+ in the class, I would strongly reccommend him because he will gladly help you as long as you know the material and take good notes.
Amazing teacher! He really cares about your grade and is willing to stay after to answer any questions. Notices if you arent in class but wont say anything rude about it. Amazing teacher, will give you an A if you show youre trying.
Super nice guy. Homework is a very reasonable amount and online. Tests are just like the reviews.
He likes to have fun in his class and enjoys teaching so it makes it a lot easier to pay attention. he likes to get to know the usaul ppl who show up to class. almost no use of book. hw is all online. has no problem stopping to explain any questions. if you try you will easily get an A
Take him, you won't regret it! He gives reviews for the test and goes over them in class. He is always willing to answer questions. He is an excellent professor and its easy to make A's in this class.
Pretty good teacher. Nice guy, and pretty patient. He apriciates commited students who show up to class and may be more willing to help those students. His test are just like his reviews. Definitely a good choice if you need to take this class
This guy was awesome. Always wanted to help and get to know his students better. He really know what he doing and his reviews match his test exactly. Highly recommend!
This guy is awesome. He explains everything clear, math lab homework is easy and his tests too. His tests are his review handouts with different numbers. Definitely take him.
Easy A
Great professor! Approachable and understanding, ask anything and he?s happy to help. The class itself is fairly easy however, if you don?t have a strong algebra back ground practice, the second half gets ?exiting? if you catch my drift. Keep up with the online hw and you should be okay.
Don't really care for his teaching style. He does many examples in class but not very approachable when you don't understand something. Book is not needed just mathlab. Will not take again. There are better profs.
Easy A just write down the notes, do the homework on myMAth lab and do the review and you will be fine. He goes over the review the day before a test. Also you don't even need the book
I love this Guy! If I could I would take him every semester! his test are super easy! It looks exactly like the review but with different numbers! No need for textbook he only uses My MathLab...but its very helpful! I loveee this Guy! Trust me you cant go wrong with Nasr!
Best teacher I had this year. Test are just like the review and are only around 20 questions and are really easy.
Go to class everyday and you will be fine! At the end of the semester he opens up all the hw assignments and lets you increase your grade average..if you fail this easy class you must have really done absolutely nothing! Nasr is the best!!
I signed up for him my second semester for MAT 1073 also because he is not hard, he understands why the students are taking the course & wants to help those who have to move up,and pass those who its their last math. He is a nice guy, although speak up in class and get to know him-It will help you a lot if by chance u are struggling
Really helpful guy, let's you text him if you have any questions. Bad handwriting during notes so sit close.
Mr. Nasr is a very nice man. He likes to joke around at times. His lectures were easy to follow. If he knows that you are trying, he will have all the time to help you out. God bless this man. I recommend him. Mr. Nasr is simply the best MAT instructor ever. There will be three exams and a final that is cumlative.
Great professor, easy class. He gives you a review (which is practically the test), and has a review day before the test. Minimal homework, (about 20-30 q's a week) Don't even need the textbook.
pretty good. gives lots of examples in class that come in handy for studying for the test. all homework is online. he gives test reviews that are pretty much exactly the test. he will reluctantly do the test review in class. easily persuaded to push back due dates. really understanding and helpful
Great Teacher!..He likes to joke even though sometimes hes corny. Hes very clear and is willing to help with anything even if he has to stay after class. You really dont need the texbook. you can use the online. If you fail this class you cant blame anyone but yourself. I wish i could take him for pre-cal but his class is full.
I seriously regret that I wasn't allowed to register in time to get into his precalc class because he is a great teacher.
I went into this class thinking it was going to be nothing, and it definitely was really easy at first because it was all algebra! Yet I never did the reviews or read, and that worked out fine, since the HW helped me review enough. I regret that I got lazy when we got into the calc part bc calc was new for me. He drops a test but don't get lazy!
Easy professor, because its algebra. Don't waste your money on the book, you never use it. If you know algebra you can skip all the classes, and just do the homework and show up for tests. The tests are exactly off the reviews and he drops your low grades. Easy A with minimal effort.
very very nice teacher, he makes it easy as possibly. He remember every ones name "we were 130". gives review before each test. my best teacher ever. just go I toke his class twice math 1073 & 1093
very hard !!
I swear by this guy. Math was never my best subject. NEVER. I got an A in MAT1033 and MAT1093 with him as my professor. Very sweet and patient. Makes all math clear and understandable. Happily answers your questions if any. So doable for those who are busy. Good stuff. Easy A. Better take him. Won't regret it!
great teacher. really gets to know his students by name and loves to joke. tests are just like his reviews. I never went to class but still did the homework and mathlab really helps if you don't attend. overall good course and teacher. LOVE HIM!
expecting an easy class found out it was not easy at all he is not very clear goes through lessons to fast do not take this class
i took clss for tow time with this proffessor his very helpful, he make you love math, he is have many ways to made it easy, and try to help you to pass the class with good grade, i wish i can take more class with him.
Heads up tests are not multiple choice. He goes too fast at times. Really hates it when you use calculators and makes it a point to make it known. Cool guy but not very approachable. Decided to try my luck with another professor.
Horrible professor. Not very approachable, makes you feel stupid when you ask questions in class. No longer gives reviews prior to exam. Makes a lot of corny jokes that nobody laughs to. DO NOT take this professor, there are way better options than him.
Not approachable (and can be rude) when you are having trouble. Do not take this professor if you struggle with math.
Good professor, very clear, and pretty funny. Makes math easy.
I am the perfect example that you can fail even the easiest classes if you get to comfy. It was not my intention to leave the class at the back of my mind but i did. Im a bio major and focused so hard in my bio that i totaly left this for last minute all the time! i didnt even show up to all of his classes. Anyways hes great but dnt get to comfy
Horrible professor, if you struggle in math do not take him. Makes you feel dumb when you ask questions or get an answer wrong in class. No reviews for tests. Tests are way harder than the homework and doesn't curve. I would not recommend him to anyone.
He can be a bit confusing at times, but if you show up for class and take notes you should be good. The tests is literally the examples he does in class just with different numbers. Just read the notes and you should be fine.
He seem to be annoyed if you ask a question about something he feels you should know already. But I myself am just good at math so I didn't necessarily struggle. I wouldn't say he's a horrible professor BUT if you have the chance to take another professor you should. I mean he's nice and still helps.
During his lecures Gus can be very confusing at times but his accent is hilarious. If you do not understand a concept in class and still don't understand it when doing mathlab he is more than willing to reteach you In his office hour. By far one of the funniest teachers I've had. The tests are a joke and he gives extra credit via course evaluation.
Great professor. He does have a slight accent but it is manageable. Simple grading system only homework and multiple choice tests. No pop quizzes or anything. Gets students feedback on what days will work for tests and is willing to work with you if you have to miss a test. Only need textbook for MyMathLab code.
I struggle with math in general. I know many people who are on their third try taking this class. He will say stuff like how he's going to review for a test on a certain day, and then pout when attendance is poor and not review the material. I don't think he would be a bad teacher if you are math inclined, but if you are, run for the hills!
I was really confused sometimes but overall hes okay
Math classes have always been my strongest! I have never received below a B+! This course hurt my GPA VERY much! This professor does not really know how to teach; he is very knowledgable, but does not know how to teach. He is a great person in general, but DO NOT take him as a professor! A friend of mine warned me and she was right.
He is a very good professor, and gives good examples for hw and tests. 4 tests including the final. He does have an attitude when you don't understand when h gives examples.
complained about students in class and class size whined about students asking to further explain or redo what he just did refused to review test after majority of class failed rude and attempts to humiliate students who need help and ask questions refused to reteach or even sometimes teach things the class :should already know"
Nasr was by far the worst professor I have ever taken at UTSA. He goes through the lectures very quickly and if you ask him a question he gets mad and says you should know this from high school and doesn't answer the question. His exams are very difficult and he doesn't even go over half of the exam material. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR TRUST ME.
Pretty bad. I'd avoid him like the plague if I were you. He doesn't like answering questions, he gets mad when the class doesn't know an obscure theorum etc etc. Essentially this class was ALOT more hard than it should have been. I was looking to go into this class with an "A" and came out struggling to maintain a "C". No Review for the finaltests
I could write a novel on why not to take this professor and it would probably end up making it on the New York Times bestsellers list. However all I'll say for now is you're not gonna have a fun time if you take his Calculus classes.
I guess he use to love teaching. Show up to class. READ CHAPTER ONE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HE WON'T LET YOU FORGET
He has a fairly heavy accent that I have a lot of trouble understanding. He is generally a nice guy, but if math isn't your strong suit, you should probably try to find a different class. He moves very quickly, and often misunderstands student's questions, but he does try to help.
I really recommend him. His tests are straight-forward, if you take notes during his classes and go over them. If you do homework, which is easy, you are basically ready for the test. He is a very nice guy also, he tries to remember all of his students' names, and he does, which I think is pretty nice. Wish he taught calc 2 also.
His teachings are not clear, and the only way I learned anything was by reading on my own and doing the homework. You can skip his class but I wouldn't recommend it. He changes the test dates all the time and just isn't very helpful. I would chose any other professor besides him.
I really did not enjoy this class. He would post homework on mymathlab two days before it was due but would have no hw assigned over the weekend when I wanted to work ahead. His tests were very difficult- didn't give us any reviews, just says "do all the problems in the book, mathlab, etc." I reached out to him for help and he never responded.
There are not three tests and all of them are comprehensive. There are not a lot of questions so if you mess up on a couple expect a C. Would not recommend taking this professor. I took Calculus BC in high school and averaged a B. My grade in his class lowered to a C after finals. He also does not like to answer questions.
Go to class, take notes, do homework; do these daily, and when preparing for tests, try solving problems on "study plans" on MyMathlab, you'll definitely be ready for the tests. Some calc teachers only gives 3-5 problems on their tests but this guy gives 8-10 so you'll feel less pressured. He does give partial credit, so at least try each problems
he believes in you working for your grade so do not expect any slack at all. he is not very clear when teaching my notes were full of numbers and equations and when it came down to test i had everything in my head but didn't know how to apply it, because he doesn't teach you that. you'll have to put in work outside of class. #noextracredit
great teacher. he expects you to know your stuff. straight to the point and focuses on the concept taught no b/s tricky questions. straight forward tests. go to class pay attention ask questions take notes you'll pass. all tests are free response which benefits you. I multiplied wrong wrong answer, but process was correct, got 1 point taken off.
don't expect to get an answer if you ask a question in class.
He is absolutely the worst. Don't believe the good comments about this guy. He cries when u ask questions in class. Will give u notes and homework to study but the tests will always be one step ahead of what u studied. No extra credit so if you are mediocre at math, don't take him. Don't even risk it like I did. Without calculus 1 u cant takeAnytng
Don't take him if you somewhat struggle in math. He is not very approachable, makes you feel dumb if you ask a question in class. Some people do really well and some don't. It just depends on how good you are at math on your own.
He goes really fast in lectures and he doesn't answer questions seriously. He always seems annoyed to be in class because he can be kinda rude. He always ignores when student ask for help and says "you should already know this" His tests are very hard and the questions are different from all the other algebra professors. Overall, avoid him.
Honestly I think he is one of the toughest professors at UTSA. I worked so hard yet I failed. His class is complex and test are too difficult. If you don't want to waste your time and money, don't take him! Next semester I took same course with a different professor and got a A+
Provides really good lectures and definitely teaches the material well. However, his tests have some tricky problems which could lead you to think more than usual. Focuses more on algebra and trig than actual calculus. Didn't provide any extra credit opportunity so make sure to make good grades on tests and quizzes! Had 3 tests, quizzes every Frida
While he pretends to be helpful, he is much less than. If you ask for extra credit, he will just tell you it's all your fault you don't understand and that you shouldn't have skipped class. Even when you've only missed one class all semester. He doesn't care at all and just seems like he wants to get the class over with. Treats you like an idiot.
This professor is good, if you're good at math and have a basic understanding of Algebra. If you don't, don't bother with this class. He is kind of rude and annoyed at answering questions. However, he does do review days that make the tests very simple. Test questions are much easier than homework, which there is a lot of.
take anyone but this guy! He goes very fast through lessons and expects you to know every math and step prior, he won't stop to explain steps before this course. makes you feel stupid for using a calculator. average HW. avoid this guy! you've been warned
If you know algebra, this class may be a breeze, if not, than this class will not help at all. He does NOT give test reviews or any indication what will be on the test. He is condescending and irritable if you need help or ask a question. If I had a dollar for every time he mentioned in class that "we should already know this..." I'd be rich.
He Is not very helpful and does not allow a calculator which does not make any sense.
He is a good professor, but the one thing he lacks in is being able to be understood through his accent, it is what made it difficult to really learn anything.
the math lab he assigns to take homeworks do a better job teaching than he does.
Doesn't not give reviews out for the test just tells you to study the mathlab
Terrible professor. Expects you to know everything already, doesn't go in depth when he lectures, and doesn't provide a review for his tests (which are already hard enough). Does drop lowest test grade and two lowest hw grades. For your sake, do not take this guy.
Take him! He is the best math teacher I have ever had. Math is difficult in general & anyone who dislikes him doesn't apply themselves. No quizzes. 3 tests with 20 questions. 1 easy project. Final is 30 questions. Homework is due 3-5 days later, and you get endless retakes per question on mymathlab.
Don't do it. This guy sees himself as a mathematical genius and if you aren't just like him he will let you know his disappointment. He goes very fast in his examples, and if you blink it's gone. Yea you can ask for help but he will most likely dance around the question and make you even more lost. Learned more from the homework and YouTube.
I would only recommend taking this class if you already have a pretty well understanding of algebra. He's a nice guy, but does not teach well at all. Very difficult to bring up your grade because there are only 3 tests and then homework that barely counts toward your final grade.
i would not take this class if your not natural good at math because i studtied for this class everyday and did not pass. His test are impossible to know because he tells you to review the mathlab but you could be overstudying on one part and understudy on another so its impossible to know whats on the test.
he does not give out reviews for the test . The class would be a lot easier if he gave out reviews for the test .
he is a very bad teacher when it come to test review he expect you to study the online mathlab but it you just don't know what on his test so you overstudy on part where its was not on the test and you understudy on parts on the test. and i studied for this class everyday and still failed
People are being too harsh on this professor. If you don't show up to class you're gonna have a tough time passing the tests. He does do a lot of straight out of the textbook stuff in class but if you pay attention on my math lab and listen to what he says, you'll pass. He dropped our lowest test grade to help us out just because he's a nice guy.
If you want an A, you have to work for it. I went to every class and did all of the homework, yet felt that it was all I needed to ace the test. You need to practice, practice and practice. He WILL answer your questions, if you are engaged and attentive in class. He knows when you put effort in his class, and remembers your face from classes.
Very difficult professor. Gets upset when you ask questions and expects you to know the material right away. No reviews for the test and the homework do not match the test like examples and problems. I had to teach myself A LOT of the material.
No reviews for the test, which is majority of the grade. Throughout the class he is constantly putting people who asks questions down and saying "you should already know this." He is rude and treats students like they are stupid, If you are already good in math then you will be ok. But if you are not good in math, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Subpar at articulating the concepts of the course. A supermajority of your grade came from exams, which barely reviewed for. Whenever someone asks a question, he throws attitude. When solving problems, he skips many steps which can easily confuse you. Overall, if there is another section open, take that section. Avoid this professor _at all costs_.
Worst prof I've ever taken. Avoid at all costs!! He is very snobby and mean. He hates when you ask a question and makes you feel dumb for asking the question. He expects you to already know the material whether "you learned it five months ago or five years ago." He is no help and this was my worst math experience.
Good teacher, but gets annoyed when you don't remember some older things however he does go over it. The quizzes and tests are tough. 3 test worth 20% each. Comprehensive final worth 20 and quizzes and hw worth 10% each. Biggest complaint not knowing what sections were on the test and that the recitations were not helpful.
By far worst professor I've ever had. So snobby and arrogant and don't you dare ask a question in class or he'll go out of his way to make you feel stupid. The tests take up 80% of the grade and there's no reviews. His lectures don't really help because he is just a terrible teacher. Hardest class I've taken yet... DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
The work in this class is very simple. Gus can be annoying but has a funny side to him. Just show up to class, do the iclicker questions, turn in preclass work on time and finish your homework early in the week and you'll be fine.
Ghas wants students to pass. If you're not giving it your all, he can tell and will come off as bit rough. My problem was the excessive course work. You have to clock hours out of class, do pre-work, homework, and quizzes every week. Not including the exams and group work. It's a lot. If you need help, you HAVE to ask, he doesn't offer otherwise.
The problem with this class is we had to log hours in a math lab in order to get credit for homeworks and quizzes. Nasr is a good professor and is good at explaining concepts but the fact that we rely so much on the math lab makes the class almost obsolete (meet once a week.) I feel bad for Nasr because we all hate this class but not him.
He can me good at times but most of the times he is very straightforward and only likes to teach class his way. Most of the semester I could not understand most of his lectures. In my class more than half of the students had to drop the class due to the failing grades.
The entire class is just too much. You have to go to class lecture, then math gym sessions, then do hours at the math success center. And the stuff covered in class isn't close to the hw, quizzes, or test. He's tries to get students to engage, but it's kind of awkward. Says "spicy math" a lot.
This professor is a good person to talk to outside of class, and in the math center. He can hold a good conversation and cares about the students who talk to him outside of class, or if they show an interest in math, but he is a horrible professor. 90% of the class has no idea what is happening and I have to tutor the students in class before exams
In Professor Nasr's 1053 class, we met once a week and were required to spend 3 hours per week in the Math Center. In this class it was kinda like you taught yourself, since you only met once a week with an actual teacher. The Math Center is packed all the time, so getting help was impossible. I liked the teacher but I didn't like the Math Center.
Teaches the fairly easy questions with simple explanations but will assign tough homework that is way beyond what was taught.
This class had sooo much coursework. We met once a week but had notes, quizzes, homework, and 3 hours in the math center every week. He lectures and is not very helpful when answering questions. The grading is based on several things but if you don't meet all the requirements for a letter grade you didn't get it (i.e. with 2 absences you get a B).
Only people who are bad at math hate him. I believe Gus is such an amazing professor and is funny and caring. When you ask him questions outside of class or in class he's very helpful. However, the class itself is super hard.
Unless you want to teach yourself, I advise you to pick another professor. Gus was a horrible professor in the way that he didn't like to break anything down for others to understand, instead he seems to get upset when people are having trouble instead of being glad to help. DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you're excellent in Calculus.
If you know how to reach yourself go for it. The way he teaches is not understood easily he makes the math problems more complected than necessary. He should not be teaching business calc If he does not even know a single thing about business. Famous phrase of the semester " you should've learned this last semester. Only upside he drops lowest test
I had to drop his class for other reasons, but I think if you can keep on top of your hw, and the kind of student that talks to the prof and goes to tutoring daily, you should be OK. I did notice that frequently the example in class would be very simple, while the hw that night would be extremely complex. Had an IMPOSSIBLE time limit on quizzes.
Super lecture heavy so it is best to show up BUT if you have questions about why he skipped steps it is best to go to tutoring because this professor does not enjoy answering or writing those down. He will always say "you should know this from college algebra". My MathLab helped me more than anything in lecture. I would not recommend or take again
Expected to know the material before class. He does not like when questions are asked and will get defensive if you ask a question that you should already know. Material is not taught well and the homework consists of extremely hard questions, whereas he teaches the easy examples in class.
HORRIBLE! He is so rude! He doesnt teach and expect you to know it all already! All he does is belittle and embarrass you because you dont remember everything from the Prerequisite maths and thats all he talks about! This class is basically just trigonometry and redundant to take! I do not like him whatsoever!!
Professor Gus is a fair teacher in my opinion. Me earning an average grade in this class is because i did not maximize my potential. Yes he does at times be a little hard on students but for the most part once he sees that you are making an effort he helps you during his office hours. There was a lot of hw but in class notes help you for the exams.
Very thorough in Lecture! As long as you show up and pay attention the material is pretty easy the way he puts it. If you struggle with math I do t recommend him, but if you like math hes good.
If you do your homework on time and get help right when you need it, this class will not be that hard. I recommend not skipping this class because its easier to learn from professor Nasr than by yourself. Im not great at math but I ended up with an A by keeping up and putting in some effort. Lowest test grade is dropped at end of semester.
This review is for those who are good at math. Take notes of his lectures, for they are like the test. He does expect you to already know some BASIC algebra. Hmwk heavy, but hmwk is harder than test. He explained and worked through every problem, and reviewed prior to test. I never had to peek at the book, but DO attend classes. Great professor!
Spring 2020: He has some low ratings, but my experience was positive. He knows the material, and teaches it well, but he does have a passive aggressive attitude. It did not bother me, and so I would recommend him if you have a thicker skin than average because he does know the material. There are 3 exams and 1 final. Lots of homework and quizzes.
I took this class for Summer 2020 which was online. Im generally good at math so his lectures were good to me. Your graded only one homework, 2 tests and a final. The homework can be hard but you can attempt the question 3 times and then request a similar question so I always had As on my homework. You can also find resources to help you. Easy A.
Didn't help and was not helpful, the only saving grace was he rounded up my 69.24 to a C.
I would definitely not recommend taking him. He was not a good teacher and I was constantly confused. I have never struggled more in a class than I did in his. I even moved on to get an A in both bio calculus and biostatistics, but somehow got a C in this class.
Prof. Gus was nice, and he can be funny sometimes, but his class was not for me. This was an online class, which was hard enough, and all in all, he was fine, but his teaching style did not work for me. All of the grades were through a separate website, similar to WebWork. All tests were multiple choice. Good class if you love notes and lectures.
Terrible instructor! He has a very condescending tone during lectures. Calculus is already boring, coupled with a mediocre instructor, makes it excruciating. He gives no extra credit. And the arbitrary, short time limits set on quizzes and exams are not reasonable at all. Choose someone else for Business Calc or Calc I
I'm pretty good at math and I am struggling so bad in precal and his teaching does not help. He's nice and a little funny but it's so hard to understand what's happening and tests have NO VISUALS. I can't understand from just reading so my grades on tests are pretty low. Do NOT take if you're a visual learner and need things to be simplified.
Lectures can be confusing at times. He does expect you to know stuff from college algebras so he wont be spoon feeding steps to a math problem. Which makes sense. Overall good professor
Mr. Nasr is actually a great instructor. He makes a concerted effort to communicate with students, gives one-on-one help if you ask, and keeps the homework content very similar to the exams. Just do the work, ask for help, and you'll be golden. Do remember: he expects College Algebra and Algebra II concepts to be familiar, so brush up early on.
I think the way the course was designed depends on practicing problems a lot, expect to dedicate a day or two per week just to get the concepts down before taking any assignment. Rate of change and derivatives are the heart of this course, generally there are few formulas per chapter. Expect answering basic business questions using Calculus.
HE IS AWESOME!!!! He's super nice and extremely helpful during class. No question is a stupid question to him and he will always help you no matter how behind or stumped you are. I 100% recommend him!
dr Dr. Nasr is a kind and funny person but he isn't very hands-on and helpful, he expected us to know everything the first time and would not respond when I asked a question, he would say "You should know this already". I've never been the best at math so this class was fairly challenging for me but nothing that I couldn't do in the end.
Gus is a clear and strict professor. He sticks to his deadlines but he'll work with you if need be. He does expect students to know everything before class starts and sometimes gets upset when you don't participate. He really hates when people talk over him so don't.
Professor Nasr is a funny and nice professor but he gives out so much work on top of quizzes and group writing every single week. In class he does expect you to know everything first try and I have seen classmates ask questions about the work and he tells them "You should know this already.", so he isn't really helpful.
I found Professor Nasr to be a decent professor for algebra. He loves in class participation but never cold calls students. The quizzes are straightforward and the writing assignments have a clear rubric that he goes by. You can tell he enjoys the subject he teaches and I would take his class again.
I would say overall he is a good professor and you can tell he loves what he does, but he fails to realize that Calculus doesn't come easy to everyone. There have been times when he has answered a student's question with you should already know this ultimately putting the student down.
DO NOT SKIP CLASS. Especially if you are not math oriented. The quizzes and Tests are easy. The homework is the hard. He is nice but does expect you to know material from algebra. I would dedicate a couple hours a week for Business Calculus. The topics at the beginning just keeps expanding so stay on top of it. Helps out when you ask for it.
DO NOTTTT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IM TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW. Is very rude to students calls you out if you don't understand a concept. Take someone else please I had a horrible experience never again
RUDE AND DISMISSIVE. Do NOT take this professor. Those 5 star ratings were years ago clearly this man has changed for the worse. Whatever he went through he takes it out on students whom get incorrect answers. AND DOESNT EVEN HELP THEM!!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He expects you to know the concept before walking into class, if you ask a question he makes you feel bad for not knowing. He'll say he can't help you and to go to tutoring or try harder. No extra credit. He basically criticized us all semester. He gets upset at us for not understanding yet he does NOTHING to help us.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. I took calc with him. he is RUDE, I asked if i could do some extra credit. he pulled up my grade and said " no. you should probably just try harder." HELP! and he can not teach to save his life. first class i have ever failed. he failed me, but he failed as a professor and he should probably be fired. RUN.
I would NOT recommend this professor to anyone; he doesn't take the time to actually TEACH the material and says that we should already know the topics. As a student he should be doing his job and go into depth about the topics, but he chooses not to and just recommends tutoring instead of explaining the material. Please do not take this professor.
Attend every class and be prepared - this prof expects you to know the material before coming to lecture. Use unstuckstudy and the textbook to supplement the lessons. Stay focused, and you can do well, but be ready for a challenge.
Terrible professor, doesnt care about students. The entire tutoring center is his students because nobody understands his class. I don't know a single person who is currently passing.
The thing that annoyed me the most was attendance he would start the class early and ask me why I was late when I actually came on time. He would make it a thing to embarrass u in front of others too. That aside I taught myself everything ik from this course, he has rarely ever used the board too.
I would not recommend this Professor for this course. I'm not sure about any other courses he lectures, but he is no help when it comes to the material. He can also be very condescending in class, and does not seem to actually care about the students. I would try another professor for this type of course with such challenging material for most
Overall I like him as a professor but the way the course it set up is a disservice to students. You are expected to watch videos and then come to class understanding the material, there is almost no in-class teaching. The amount of work is very manageable. Personality wise he is the type of professor you either love or hate. He can be very pointed
Reading the past comments, I can say he is a bit harsh. He has very high expectations for students attending a uni bc we are here for a reason. This class was v hard, but he does know what he is talking about. I do know that if you are showing to him that you are trying, he can help you out. He does not bother to waste his time on ppl who dont.
A really good mathematics professor. Grades fairly and is kind. However, he expects everyone to be good at math, so if you aren't, then this class isn't for you. Helpful outside of class too. He often told us how he failed math and became a math professor, encouraging us to do math well. 100% recommend him.
This professor is amazing and really cares about his students. I've always struggled with math and thought I'd never pass, but he helped me so much! Take advantage of his office hours and test retakes. He's dedicated and will do everything he can to help you succeed if you put in the effort. Make sure to talk to him if you are struggling.
Doesn't post examples or lectures online for students who aren't able to attend. Not trying to be racist but has a very strong accent and is difficult to understand at times. Very condescending when you ask questions, makes you not even want to ask things.
Professor would rather be a friend then teach, gets upset if u don't answer questions without realizing maybe u can't answer them cause you don't understand what he's teaching, will stop the lecture if he gets frustrated. If sees u doing something for another class or anything he will stop the lecture to call u out and hold a grudge against u.
Class overall was difficult but he was an easy and forgiving grader for exams. There is no final as he allowed you to just retake any part of the past tests you failed which allowed many people to boost their grades up.
He expects you to try. If you show up to classes and pay attention in lectures he's great. Doesn't ask for a lot of work or homework either. All assignments were very simple and easy. I've only seen him have issues with people who never show up and then ask for credit. Also his accent is not an issue. He speaks very clear English.
The only reason he has a 3/5 is because of all his reviews past 2013. I don't know what happened to bro in 2013-2014, but he is not the same as they explained him to be. He gets really upset when you don't immediately understand the criteria or answer his questions, and is overall not the best teacher which are why test averages are 1.3/10 points.
350 words is not enough for me to explain the disappointment and embarrassment of a professor this man is. But if you hate your life and don't care about GPA, take this professor. Gives long textbook chapters pretty much implying to teach yourself. He legit sets you up to fail on the exams, offering material to study that wont be on the exam. AVOID
Homework and quizzes are online but he doesn't post notes on canvas. He expects you to know the material beforehand and will throw a fit when no one answers for him. He won't show his work on notes so you'll be stuck guessing on how he reached that step. Instead of offering help he will ridicule you first rather than answering your question.
Do NOT take this professor at whatever cost.
I personally am terrible at math, but the profosser is actually caring if you visit him if your having trouble, i do regret not asking for help after the 1st exam, i waited until the last exam and i barley passed with a C, i do think his teaching is fast, and he can seem a bit like passive, but just talk to him and you will pass
This guy is wild he will teach us one way of doing something with 1-2 examples then the homework is all stem questions then the exams are completely different from everything else. Even at that he is very tough on grading and nit picks everything. Avoid at all costs.
Start praying. If you're not religious, pick one and start praying.
expects you to know everything before even starting the class and definitely doesn't make you feel comfortable to reach out to him for help. i've had math professors who record lectures at the very least, he doesn't and his exams are paper. let's just say, it's extremely obvious why his classes are the last to fill during registration. AVOID!!!!!!!
Terrible Teacher, and always getting frustrated if you don't do homework every day.
His isn't necessarily a bad professor, but he assigns work as if you have no other classes and expects you to spend a bit of time on his class every single day. His lectures don't match with the homework and the homework doesn't match with the tests but he does make sense when he explains things and he gives you a chance to retake exams as a final.
If math is not your strong suit, I am going to heavily advise you to STAY AWAY from taking any course with this professor. He does not give any extra credit nor does he curve any grades. This is a rarity as every other Business Calculus professor at UTSA does these things to help students. His lectures cater to those who are advanced on the subject
He expects everyones to have an understanding of math thats not always clear to everyone. If you don't remember math from high school, don't take this class. If you're gonna be full time, don't take this class. If you want someone to help you explain math to you, don't take this class. He is passive aggressive and the homework does not match exams
Textbook-heavy and mostly self-taught. You do notes, homework, and quizzes before he actually teaches the material, so if the topic is new you're basically on your own. Would be better if he went through the chapter and notes in class first, then had us apply it. rather than wasting time in silence bc he asked a question no one knows how to answer.
if you don't come to class there's a good chance you won't do good. there's a new homework module every week or so along with around 4 quizzes. get ready to work.
Be aware…if you don't come to class you will fail 9/10 times. I somehow managed to pass but DO NOT be like me. Go to class. ALOT of hw but as long as you manage your time you'll get all the hw done quickly. He is fairly lenient on exams for partial credit which helps a lot but be sure to study for his exams. Come to class and you'll pass
