Even though the semester isn't over yet, I can honestly say she is the WORST professor ever. She is very UNCLEAR and makes her students feel dumb. Her accent is really annoying and she calls on students randomly to do some irrelevant problem on the board. Don't waste your time taking her. You're not going to learn anything.
Professor Lang is a nice and helpful teacher. I struggle sometimes in her class, but she is VERY willing to help. She's also very approachable. Office hours are recommended if you have trouble in her class.
Such a nice professor. While her class can be difficult at time she goes up and beyond to help you, especially during office hours. I recommend this class!
Such a nice professor! While her class can be challenging she goes up and beyond in order to help you, especially during her office hours! Definitely recommend the class!
Excellent teacher. Very good at explaining concepts in her lectures. Doesn't just reproduce the textbook readings as some professors do. Provides thorough study guides for the exams. Reviews for exams and provides corrections for exams and quizzes. A very good teacher.
Liked her Econ 1A so much I took her for 1B. She is very thorough and organized in her lectures. She understands the subject well and can lecture on it beautifully. Her exams come from the homework (Aplia) and the problems at the end of each chapter. Not that difficult to study for you just need to take the time. I'd take her a 3rd time if I could.
She's pretty hard to understand. Trying to take notes in this class will be hard if you're a laptop person. So switch over to notebooks! Still uses chalkboard and her cursive is hard to read. Her grading rubric is weird. Read the textbook and do all the homework. Overall, would not recommended her. Maybe I shouldn't have taken 1A at same time.
About 5 quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 final, 2 essays. The weekly Aplia assignments are a pain. She drops the lowest quiz and Aplia assignment. She grades essays very hard. You learn a lot if you pay attention, but class is boring. She's very helpful and approachable. Must study a lot!
She is really hard to understand. Strong accent and when you tell her the right answer, she says that it is incorrect and then she realizes it is right. Aplia is long, boring and hard.
Her class is really interesting and you can tell she truly enjoys teaching it! It's a hard class, you'll definitely need to work and do your homework if you want an A, but she will go out of her way to help you. She's patient and understanding and wants you to succeed! I'd definitely recommend this class to anyone looking for an interesting class!
Excellent teacher!Have to work hard but she provides good study guides, corrections for quizzes and exams. She enjoys teaching and very willing to help. I recommend her class.
Class is fairly easy to pass if you read the book, she posts all her powerpoints on Aplia. Gives 5 quizzes and drops the lowest quiz grade. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Her lectures can be a bit confusing since she's a bit disorganized, but she is approachable and will answer any questions for clarity.
Very hard to understand and many students were confused in class. Quizzes were tough with more students getting poor grades than good. Overall, I did not enjoy this class. Boring unclear lectures with one squeaky voice.
The website that she uses for the homework is horrible. It does not help you learn at all. She is not a very good communicator or helper. She does not help you with the hard subjects. She is hard to understand at times. I do not recommend her as a teacher.
I could barely understand this woman with her french accent and at 9am I almost fell asleep everyday because I could not understand what she was saying. She was a nice lady, but just very unorganized and it showed. I did not enjoy this class at all and I really had problems understanding her so it was hard for me to learn.
This is not a great professor at all. She is not clear and hard to follow during lectures We also had a paper where the requirements were no clearly defined and our paper was graded by students which is unfair since every student has different grading methods. You will only do well in this class if you read the books. Don't bother emailing her.....
Although it might take a while to get over her thick french accent, her lectures were pretty straightforward and the tests were easy. Nice teacher, but I didn't like the website she used.
Textbook: well-written. PPTs online for review. Had to pay $150 to buy the online course materials. About half the class didn't even show up most of the time. Quizzes and tests reflect classwork and homework, and she offers a decent amount of extra credit on them. Be careful with the essay. French accent might throw some people off.
SHE IS HORRIBLE! her lectures do not help at all. her study guides are very vague. she rarely replies back to emails. online homework does not help. she is a pushover though. borderline passing/failing and i have never missed a class. 4 quizzes 1 midterm 1 final 1 group paper online homework every week. i did not learn anything from this class.
DO NOT TAKE. Weekly HW is done online through horrible site that ALWAYS has technical issues that she does not handle. 4 quizzes. 1 midterm. 1 group paper. Makes first and final draft same amount of points and is unclear and will mark you down on things that weren't on instructions to begin with. She has rude remarks. Don't expect email replies.
The worst teacher I've ever had. Microeconomics isn't an easy subject to understand and she is NOT helpful what so ever. Gives attitude if you try to ask her a Q and she makes you feel dumb. Difficult tests. Unorganized and reads straight off power points, I basically had to teach myself. Annoying and heavy accent. Avoid at all costs!
She delays online homework assignments because she doesn't know when she'll finish teaching a chapter, but she opens it on Saturday when the online homework is due Sunday night. I tried checking it on Thurs and Fri because I'm busy on weekends, and have missed homework assignments because of this. Regardless, she doesn't even finish the chapter.
Didnt have a good experience. Passed w a B, but it was a nightmare. Prof. Lang knows economics, but does not teach in depth. Her lectures tend to be confusingvague, only for the HW (on unreliable website) to be hardcomplex. Her feedback on essays only says "wrong" but not WHY its wrong. Group essay is unclear, be careful so it doesnt ruin grade.
Professor Lang is a pretty all-around, decent professor. Pros: 1) Easy testsquizzes 2) 25% of grade is online 3) She makes concepts simple 4) Good for visual learners Cons: 1) Her essay sucks. She is very unclear on directions 2) There are one or two concepts that you have to teach yourself 3) Her accent will drive you nuts for a bit
She's generally easy. However, near to the end of the semester there is a group essay for her class in which she was not really clear about her requirements.
I don't know why many students don't like her. She is a really excellent professor. If people blame on her, I believe they did not try hard enough in her class. She is easy. She is helpful. She is kind. One more thing, those who did good jobs in her class might not write any comments here. So don't believe the negative feedback. Take her class!
Took this class as a freshmen and I really enjoyed it as her teaching style was similar to that of an average high school teacher, powerpoint with pauses to show an example by either her explaining it or by calling some students up to role-play the example. Only negative is that your grade is totally unclear until she posts them.
This class was by far one of the most confusing classes I've taken. She's constantly lecturing each class, but not a lot of the information is organized or explained well. The online application is fairly easy at times. Most of the class is independent studying and the quizzes and exams are pretty difficult too. She has a hard to understand accent
The way she teaches is confused and hard to understand because of her accent. The lectures are confused and are not helpful for the quizzes and exams.
She said an okay teacher. She has an accent so it can be hard to understand her. Honestly her lectures were a little boring and very unhelpful for me. I would teach myself the chapter before doing the online homework.
I don't know if I would recommend her.. Econ is supposed to be something you can relate to the outside world. every time I would try to ask her a question she would tell me to just go by what the textbook is saying and not think outside the box. overall though, the homeworks were pretty hard too, all done on this online software called Aplia.
If you don't learn well from lectures this is not the prof for you. If you show up to her lectures and participate you will pass. You can skim over the book to review but it's not really a necessity if you just show up to class and listen. She repeats important info and gives in depth examples. Her grading is clear and her class is well structured
She is very nice and tries her best to help you out. She is passionate about teaching and I learned a lot!
Professor Lang is a very nice person, but as a professor, she was tough because most of the stuff we went over class didnt relate to the quizzes. Studied for 6 hours with the practice test and failed the quiz with a 52% cause every question felt like a trick question. It just felt like we were set up to fail.
She is a nice person but she is not a good professor. She lectures the entire class and does not make it relatable to the real world. She never gets through the entire powerpoint and i always have to reteach myself the info. Tests and quizzes are questions completely different than anything she has ever gone over in class. Only good is extra credit
Have to teach yourself from her powerpoints, pay for homework which is only online, does not learn names even if you share a lot in class, has 3 extra credit assignments which only help borderline grades
This class with this professor has been my favorite of the semester! She is so helpful, concerned about her student's grades & makes an effort to help them when they do not understand the material. Homework is harder than the exams! Exams are basic. She is not as bad as her rating! I would give her 10 stars if I could! Taking her again for Econ1A
I really enjoyed taking her class. I learned a lot! 5 quizzes, lowest score is dropped. Quizzes are easy. Online HW harder but we have 3 attempts, we can do it with a class mate.
I would say attendance is necessary because a lot of what she covers on the powerpoint she goes in depth in class. I found the homework to be the hardest part of the class and is worth the most. If you can, I'd suggest doing it with a friend. A lot of the question on test are scenario based so if you're good at those you'll do fine.
It was a routine ECON class. Homework was worth most of the grade, she drops the lowest quiz score, and there was plenty of extra credit. If you honestly can't pass this class with at least a B, then you must have just been too lazy to do the work. EASY CLASS.
Great professor. Lang's class was fairly easy and pretty straight forward. I learned a lot!
I had Professor Lang for Econ 1B and it was an overall great class. Her powerpoints were detailed and made sense especially when the textbook didn't. She always encouraged questions and was very helpful with anything you had to ask her for. Aplia was the worst part of this class, the questions were too hard and some just didn't make sense.
Professor has very thick french accent that takes time getting use to. Very hard to understand. Her lectures do go in depth, but it is still hard to follow. Class is very easy however as grades are based mostly on homework and some quizzes. Do not recommend if you are actually trying to learn econ though. Lots of self learning.
A lot of online work. Need to read the textbook in order to fully understand her lectures. Lectures from the book but gives own explanation. Strict on time when it comes to submitting online HW. Gives extra credit opportunities; understanding at times.
She is an average professor. She lectures for most of the class period which gets boring. This class was more of a self-taught class which made understanding the concept more difficult.
I took Professor Lang for macroeconomics. She was very boring and monotone. Her lectures seemed to drag on and the times when she would involve the class, it would be half heartedly. Her exams were hard but not too bad. I just couldnt stand her lectures and other students couldnt either, judging by how much the class shrank. Take someone else..
When I cannot go to sleep at night, I think of Prof Lang's ECON lectures. They are by far the most sleep-inducing and boring lectures I've ever attended. However, it is easy to do well in her class since it is just inquizitive and smartwork. The midterms are not too hard. I just wish her lecture would be a bit better.
She assigns midterms on Saturdays and to takes up the entire day. It ruined my Halloween and the final and midterm were like 8 hours each. There was a problem with the final that was supposed to start at 7 am and we couldn't get it resolved until 5 pm and she extended the deadline by 30 MINUTES, so everyone rushed to finished it. used lockdown
She has a heavy French accent which makes it hard to understand and ask questions. Her lectures are all over the place making it hard to learn. Mostly learn from smart work and inquizitve but when it comes to the texts which she does not curve there are more applied learned which made it hard for my whole class. She did not curve the final
This class was fairly average. It wasn't too bad, although it can get boring pretty often but she tries her best to engage with the class and in all honesty my class was the problem because no one really participates or engages with her. There is a midterm and final exam which are both pretty difficult, and there's 2 assignments every week.
She is a great professor, pretty passionate about what she teaches. But sometimes, she overcomplicated the problems make it harder to understand. Smartwork and InQuizitive are due each week. She is nice and caring but her lectures were boring, making me fall asleep every time.
Ahhhhhh, there's nothing I love more than a teacher who doesn't teach. This course is basically self-taught from the textbook. She only lectures on a chapter AFTER the homework is due, there are two assignments per week and they're both pretty time-consuming. Only tests are a midterm and a final. Seems to care about students but was not helpful.
Ghislaine Lang is not actually a professor. She will never teach you something you didn't already know, since the class is formatted in a way that you must read the textbook and do the homework BEFORE you go to her lectures. Why become a teacher if you never actually teach the class?
Was very knowledgable on the material. Helpful outside of class if you have any issues. However, her biggest fault is that her lectures are extremely boring. Between the very thick French accent, boring material, and her way of droning through lectures paying attention/ learning in class may not come easy.
Absolutely atrocious professor. Requires you to read and do the homework before the lectures. Her lectures themselves are confusing and extremely boring - I've almost fallen asleep in them even after a full night's sleep. Seriously, if you care about your mental health, do not take this joke of a teacher.
The lectures were boring and you don't have to go since you read the chapter before you go to class so there isn't much of a point. Homework was unnecessarily time-consuming and difficult. There posted on Thursday nights so you get the luxury of spending your weekend on them. 1 midterm and 1 final which were alright as they are multiple choice.
If you don't want to participate in class don't take her. She will wait until someone answers and she attempts a lot. As far as for work it's not a ton but you need to keep on top of it. She gives a little leeway in the regular assignments but not exams. If you actually read the book you could pass and not go to class more than a couple times.
She has good lectures and activities that break down the content. The midterm and final are mcq online, but can be difficult. A great teacher and a sweet person, but I wish the tests at least allowed notes.
Professor Lang does a great job on explaining materials that are in this class. She is easily reached outside of class and is understanding if you miss class. Overall, I recommend her to other students needing to take Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.
if you actually want to fail economics be my guest to take this teacher. you cant even understand what she is saying half the time worst sjsu teacher ever please dont take this class unless you want to fail
Not a great professor. Classes are pure lectures that are not only very boring but sometimes hard to understand because of her French Accent(Not her fault I get it). homework isn't too difficult but very time consuming and very annoying it's assigned over the weekend. classes are just based on homework sometimes so there's no point don't recommend
Barely able to understand her half the time, classes are a bore.
NOT GOOD
She is a kind woman, but her accent makes the course confusing and even when studying on your own time the tests are very hard. I studied for the midterm, 2 hours a day for 2 weeks and got about a 68%. Many of the peers I spoke to received a similar grade but there was no curve. Tests are multiple choice but hard. Grade is mostly test based
She really isn't that bad. All you need to do is actually put in the effort and read the textbook. Know your stuff before her lectures, and you'll do really good in her class. Just be on top of your stuff and you'll be great; fall behind and yeah you're gone. But she's good I liked her teaching style.
Heavy accent and classes and she takes attendance. She has one mid term and one final that takes up a lot of your grade. If you can, take a different professor and use her as a last resort. She is a very nice person though but she can be a bit hot headed at times and will yell at you.
Don't even get me started. Heavy accent, could not learn material. Tests were nothing like the lectures, very difficult. Makes you pay for Inquisitive. One of the worst professors I have ever had. Did not pass the class even after the final. Not forgiving or understanding. Hard to follow along.
She is a very nice teacher, but this class was not fun. Many people in the class failed as it was hard to follow along. she has a heavy accent, and it is hard to follow along with her train of thought. there is inquizitive and smart work assigned every week, and it can take very long to finish sometimes. The tests were really hard, many failed them
Let's see here: time-consuming assignments, a half-effort lecture structure, and the bulk of the grade is based on tests. Red flags are shown in full color when it comes to this specific professor. It's not worth the hassle to go to her class if you're fully going to participate in her class and then end up not going over the whole presentation.
I'm not done talking yet; I don't know whether it's that thick accent or that she developed a second brain for her own train of thought. Despite that, I can speak for the majority of those students (both past and current) who couldn't keep up with the topic she's supposed to be lecturing on. Poor execution as both a lecturer and professor.
Lastly, she's not approachable and understanding. From her pettiness and hot attitude to clearly just no email back or if you're lucky, a 1 to 2 word email back will do. All the positive reviews are vague in the sense that there's no doubt in her teaching, but these negative reviews reveal true colors from the middle to the end of the semester.
In summary, this professor has good morals but bad execution when it comes to their responsibility as both a lecturer and professor. Remember, us students/parents even FAFSA pay around $475-$525 per unit. multiply by 3 since it's a GE course (mainly for bus. majors, idk if any lol). If it's roughly $1,425 for a class like that, not worth it.
Don't get me started with the inquizitive and smartwork. First of all, inquizitive was unnecessary at that point it was a easy 15%. You're going to come back to that topic anyways with the smartwork , and ALL of these contextual questions are applicable to both midterm and final.
DO NOT TAKE! Midterm is worth 25% and final is worth 30%. She spends a lot of time doing calculations that are unnecessary. You do your some hw BEFORE you learn the chapter and then do more after you learn the chapter. She doesn't post the lecture until she covers the whole chapter which makes it difficult to get the notes you need during class.
Lectures are a drag making a boring subject even worse. Does not provide any feedback on homework, exams, or even the paper you write. She will not help you and is even rude when emailing. The homework was quizzes of which you didn't get feedback for and the exams made up so much of your grade. do not take her. good luck.
Professor Lang is not as bad as people say she is. I agree that her class is hard, but that is because her exam questions are purely conceptual. I was able to get better grades by coming to her office hours, but I understand that some might not be willing to put that much effort into an introductory class.
terrible lectures with a heavy accent that make it hard to understand her, uses smartwork and inquisitive for homework which are just awful and take very long to do.
Teaching can be complicated because of her thick accent. She rushes lectures and gives an attitude if you don't answer a question correctly. She gives smartwork and inquisitive every Thursday.Everyone is posted on canvas, so you technically don't have to show up. She gives a terrible study guide with no examples just bullet points on what to study.
Some people should just not be professors. Made an easy class very difficult to understand. Study guides are very bad and don't help at all. Cant understand most of what she says.
Class is pretty straightforward, con is the lots of homework. Her exams are things we covered, so if you familiarize yourself with the textbook it should be a breeze, study guides are not helpful. She's easy going, I liked her personality, looked forward to her lectures. I felt like I learned a lot, but the exams were so difficult.
She is nice and is willing to compromise with her students when they need help. However, her classes are very lecture-heavy with only the midterm and final as the test grades which were pretty hard even after studying for days. A lot of people got 60s/70s on her tests that I knew. She requires students to pay $80 for online websites weekly.
didnt take notes, came to all the lectures and participated, waited last minute to do hw and I did alright. she isn't as bad as ppl say, has a french accent so may be difficult to understand sometimes. just come to class and pay attention and u should do fine
Uses the most useless teaching softwares. If you want an A, be prepared to waste 5hrs of your life every week doing problems that you have not learned, while using a software that is just often blatantly wrong.
