If you not already know Calculus, then you will not learn it with Zakeri. He spents most of the class time (2h) going over homework (!lots of homework!), then rushes through two sections. You'll have to work the book on yourself to pass his tests.
He is the best Maht teacher I had. His explantions are easy to fallow. Yes he gives a lot of homework and the math is a hard subject, but i enjoyed his class and i recomend him to all my friends.
He does not teach much. Students enrolling in his class should have an extremely solid foundation of knowledge for Math 7. Otherwise it would like suicide
Spends 2 hours out of the 2 1/2 hours of class on homework, and then the next 30 minutes on rushing through 2 - 3 sections of the hardest material imaginable! I love math and I feel that I didn't get anything out of this 16 week course.
Prof Zakeri is not only one of the best math teachers I have ever had, he is kind, funny, and friendly to match. Reports of disproportionate homework review are inflated, probably by people who come to class unprepared and are looking for a justification
Friendly guy, gives alot of homework, but he's good at explaining everything. He makes sure you understand the material. It's a tough course, and I think he manages it pretty well.
he use 90% of time to go over the hw and only use 5~10 mins to expect u to know 2 sections, overall is good.
A WONDERFUL TEACHER! HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING CLEARLY AND ANSWERS ALL THE QUESTIONS. HIS TESTS ARE EASY IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORKS EVERYDAY ON TIME.
Wont explain much, he will give u the formula and throw a few examples, his tests are hard, he won't curve, of drop any exams, in the overall he is not such a bad guy, but he is not an easy grader.
VERY hard tests, must have very strong foundation in math to pass, funny guy, good lectures but he does spend almost two hours on homework then flies through 2 sections in an hour. He chooses favorites and has no mercy for those who are struggling. Don't take him unless you're excellent at math!
wonderfun teacher
MR. Gholam is the best teacher i've ever imagined.
he is the greatest math professor everrrrrrr!i tell u guyz a secret:Dit doesnt really matter how well u do on ur final..if u have a good grade in his class he will give u that grade! he is a nicest guy ever! talk to him ask him questions..he will help u to understand the materials!
He is a very good explainer; but his tests are extremely hard-he is out there to get you! SO much tricky stuff on his tests and he only gave like 3 tests-which means so much material on each test! and Math 8 is so much memorizing and so much information.
a very good humored, welcoming person - studying the examples he presents inside out helps a /great/ deal
This guy could teach calc to a monkey. I took it during the winter of 2002. Go to class everyday, show that you care, participate and do alot of problems-alot are exactly from the book or "unsolved" ones in lecture. I nearly got an A ( a high B) and put in about 30 hours of work (winter is like this
this man is brilliant! he is the funniest and the most effective math teacher i have ever come across. With his accent, his kinks for time precision and allll that math history he made a looong 3.5 hr winter session calc 2 class, the most interesting. He is just brilliant. Take him!
best math teacher in smc.i took his class in winter.4 h per day and he made the class very interesting and helpful...take him if u want to learn
His tests are extremely hard - he makes the test so that he can take off lots of points. Take someone else for pete's sake
very bad
don't believe the positive rating. Every day he spends 20 minutes out of 2 and half hours to cover two sections. You gotta teach yourself and learn by yourself. He is pretty smart, though. He remembers how many times you missed his class and he might take out 3~5 points more than other students on exam.
very smart and intelligent...organized teacher...good grader..highly recommended
extremely boring (i mean it). 80% of time correcting previous problems. Hard tests.
he's really funny, and his tests are just like the homework questions, so if you do all your hw this class will be easy. the downside would be that he requires you to prove ALL the theorems we cover. but they're mostly in the book or if you dont get it he'll always show it in class
I'm taking math 15 with him now and I really like it. His tests are kinda hard but if you do homework, you will get at least a B. He does some funny and stupid joke all the time. His lectures are clear and he is really helpful. I recommend it.
One of the best in higher math course. Tests are a little bit challenge but fair if you did HW. Lectures are excellent and he'd spend 30 mins to go over HW. Comparing to some easy grade teacher and learn nothing, I highly recommended you to take him if you've a math related major. P.S. His silly jokes are funny (but sometimes...like =.=")
i took this class in the winter and it was good. He spends time going over problems you don't understand. His tests are not that hard if you do the hw. Oh and there is a lot of hw. Pretty much all odds of every section. but in the end its worth it.
Dr. Zakeri is by far the best math professor at SMC. He is very clear at his lectures and also he is a very fair grader.
the best teacher ever
By far one of the best experiences I've had in a math class. I don't think I've ever laughed so much and learned so much at the same time. He is truly a gift to the teaching profession.
God his tests are hard. He tries to be nice and explain all but ends up being more confusing than the book. He IS a nice guy, but is hard on HW and tests are very tough. Doesn't drop any test (out of 4 + final), no curve. No EC (but measly points for test corrections) be ready to do one to two letter grades down.
Funny guy, bad teacher. Spent about 15-20 minutes covering topics half of which was spent drawing stick figures sliding along tangent lines. Expect to spend a LOT of time reading the book to figure things out. Not the hardest grader, but exams weren't easy. Consider Kennedy, you'll learn and understand a great deal more.
nice guy, but not enough time spent covering the work in class-you have to do a lot of reading to understand the work. also, grading does not appear to be consistent for all students! tests are fair.
He's definately a very good teacher. An easy grader and has an amazing sense of humor and timing. He'll literally make you fall off the chair laughing. He's very solid with his knowledge which means you'll understand everything. The only thing is that he has a rigid testing pattern w/ no exams dropped or netn, yet and A's easily manageable.
This is his teaching method: - cover 1 - 3 section(s) in 30 minutes. (give 1 - 3 examples) - assign homework (99% of the time, all odd numbers in each section) Next class: - redo all the hw students had problem with (2 hours) - 30min that left are for next lecture. He loves proofs, so expect them on all tests. Expect to study from book
he's a really nice guy. but his tests are absolutely ridiculous. he gives partial credit, but the questions on the test are not even remotely close to problems from the book. he also uses weird numbers, so you're answers look like 4356987234.23454325 which is really frustrating. the lectures are great, but it's the tests are horrible.
Great teacher, but I can understand why he might rub some the wrong way. Beyond being obsessively punctual, fussy with his chalkboard diagrams, and prone to silly jokes, Dr. Zakeri concentrates on the practical homework at the possible expense of broader theoretical explanations. You will sometimes need to read the textbook for fuller explanations.
Excellent professor who shows lots of care for his students. I learned alot in his class. Lots of work. I don't know what the last person comments are about. He is the best at SMC.
Best teacher at SMC. I really enjoyed taking Math 8 with him. He forces you to learn the concepts and he stays the entire class period. Lots of homework too. But worths it. Excellent teacher.
This teacher rocks! He knows how to teach and keep you interested in attending the class. If you have lots of time and want to learn then take him. He is the best at SMC. I had also math 2 with him and he was easy to follow. He does not drop any exams, so you must do well on each exam. Take him and you won't regrete it.
Great teacher! He will help you get a good grade as much as he can. He has a funny, but silly sense of humor. If you're gonna take math, take him
Hilarious man, decent enough teacher. Get your hands on old tests, he likes to recycle. You will laugh and you will need to read the book. Rounds Up always!
He is the best math teacher I ever had.I had my math8 and Math52 with him, I got A in both, he is a hard professor, but at the end of semester, you'll see his hardness help you a lot, you'll learn math in his class! he is fun and a kind Persian man!
His lectures are useless, he spends too much time on trivial things and then rushes over several sections in a few minutes. His exams are not "difficult" but tedious. He tests your Algebra and other trivial things instead of the topics covered in the course. Make a little Algebra mistake and you go from A to B. Stay away if you can.
This guy is obsessed with useless proofs. His tests are mostly proofs. Crams lectures. Takes the fun out of math. Heavy Indian accent.
does HW problems %95 of class and rushes lecture the last %5 where you wont understand a thing and will have to read the book all night. LOTS of HW... has some humor. nice guy but not recommended unless you are willing to dedicate your life to reading the book and doing HW. tests are very difficult.
I dropped after two weeks because his lectures have nothing to do with the homework so I ended up having to read the book thoroughly ever night. Still, his test was very hard. He is a little funny.
Dr. Zakeri expects a lot from his students, which isn't a bad thing. Lots of homework, but that's the only way to master the material. Be ready to do PROOFS. Some more rigorous than others. Overall he's a great, smart, passionate, mathematics professor. Definitely not easy, but you will learn a lot. It doesn't hurt that he's funny too! Recommended.
He is the BEST. he's very helpful, nice and funny. If you want to get an easy A, take his class.
Do not take his class if you love math! he makes u absolutly hate it. he is not good at lecture at all, you have to study the book by yourself and the tests are extremly hard but in some cases similar to text book and homework.
I don't know what the person below is talking about. the test questions are a bit tricky but if you keep up with the hwk then it is not that bad. very kind, and i highly recommend.
very nice guy and hilarious sense of humor but unfortunately teaching falls short. way too much time spent on homework. not enough instruction. must teach yourself sometimes. expect this class to consume your study time and life. must study a ton for tests, based on homework but still quite challenging. available for office hours which is nice tho
It's not an easy A if you're not a math person, but for people that are not really good in math I Highly recommend him because he gives you the chance to pass hard classes. He's definitely the best professor I've ever had at smc.
Not enough focus on the material. More time was spent going over homework. He likes to kid alot. First week was ok, the material wasn't that difficult. Later the humor only created a distraction to the material. One thing is to have good humor, another is to try and be funny all the time. Stick figures on the board is so elementary school.
Very nice and funny teacher. I appreciated his humor and stories. Great teacher, very willing to help. You have to approach the class with the right attitude and keep up with the homework. Tough class, tests weren't easy, lots of homework. Can earn an A if you are willing to put in the work. Prepares you well for Math 7.
I'm not gonna lie. This class requires a lot of work. But what math class doesn't. There is homework on every section, which is actually a good thing because it forces you to keep up with the material. The tests consist of one of the last 4 or 5 even problems of every section. So, if you know every problem in the book, you'll do great. Plus, he giv
the truth is that he likes to make lots of jokes and spends lots of class time trying to amuse himself. he spends the 1st half of class answering basic hw questions from the night before. during the second half of the class he zooms through 3 or sometimes even 4 sections! does not explain anything. no wonder there are so many questions genius!
This professor was pretty tough to understand. The tests were like impossible to get A's and the homework just took a LONG time.
eh...
"eh" is right. Prof. Zakeri is obsessively punctual, spends way too much time on homework, and goes overboard with his jokes. He crams tons of algebra into his tests to confuse you and waste your time. His tests are by no means among the hardest, but he doesn't really prepare you for them. Lectures are too rushed because of the homework. Good luck.
Home works are odd numbers of each section. He will answer home works and then start to cover two sections each time.He has3exam except final. The last meeting before each exam is reviewing.Exams should be easy if you did home works. you will not board in his class.I'm satisfied that took this class and i will take with him again if i can.HeIsTheBes
Initially I was worried about this course but after the semester linear algebra became my favorite subject. Zakeri is a funny/nice guy and very helpful. He assigns a LOT of homework but it's worth the effort since the exams are roughly 70-80% from HW or the even problems in book. Work hard, build your math intuition instead of memoriziation, enjoy.
So far, I have taken Peter Lee for Math 2, Garcia E E for Math 7...before I took Zakeri's class, I was worried about the difficulty of the class as my Math is weak. Yet I found he's very good at Math, sometimes mentioning Math history when it comes to every theorem. His grading is relatively looser than others.
i had with professor zakeri for math 7 and 15. i wish i could take more. he is nice, and every thing is good in class. he is fair i tast, grading and he understand the students. he is master in stuff and and he know how to mange the class.3 test and homework. the test are not very easy but if you study it is fair and similar to homework.
I am a former student of Dr.Zakeri, maybe 6,7 years ago, and I am graduating in 5 months with a Doctorate degree. Still, up to this day , I think about him and the impact he made in my life by being such and understanding and wonderful person and professor and I am forever thankful to him. Dr.Zakeri, If you ever read this, never stop being you.
Zakeri is amazing. He makes math fun. I took him for math 11 and 15. His tests are fair! If you study a lot you can get an A. He is hilarious and I would definitely recommend over and other math professor at SMC.
He doesn't teach the kind of math we are used to. It isn't about crunching numbers. He says "It is beautiful" a lot. He should say it a lot because math really is very Beautiful. One day every teacher will be as special as he is, that will happen the day education becomes free because everyone that teaches will teach because they love it like him.
Definitely take him for any math course! You will learn and master the material in his class! His tests are fair if you study! He is the best math professor i have ever had! Thumbs up, Prof Zakeri!
Zakeri is a horrible professor, his system of grading more than anything depends on his relationships or friendships with the student, or especially if someone else tells him about you! Knowlege is not really important, as if you know math, soon you' realize he is not really who he pretends to be , so don't be too good, Zakeri is very revengeful.
Professor Zakeri is a master of making errors especially on the exams. Don't take any classes with him, if you want to learn something. He makes mistakes so easily at every single lecture and unfortunately, he never accepts his mistakes! However, such a nice man really doesn't know how to teach, just it is an easy non-serious class!
Currently taking math 7 with him, it is really hard to understand him, he makes things so complicated, and so I am very confused, professor also likes to spend long times to prove things with his own way, so be careful with the solution manual!
Zakeri is stubborn, and unprofessional. He enjoys letting anybody down. He is strict to the common students, but he personally helps students if someone belongs to his native country. His class is not organized, and exam is hard. Avoid him if possible.
we are talking about a very unprofessional professor. His knowledge in math is not related to class, he takes a nap very often in class and lets the people from his native country take adventage of it. Unorganized and very low level.
Mister Zakeri is from Buffalo New York, his is good in calculus but just the SMC book, if you ask him something from another book or especially other professors, you make a big enemy against yourself. He doesn't like other math professors and always talks such that he is the only good professor at SMC, he is very confusing.
Calc 2 ( math 8) was tough. I've worked harder for this than for any other class (about 15-20 hours + 5 CUs). If you're not thoroughly motivated, forget it. Also, expect having memorized all prerequisite formulas ( in particular trig) BEFORE starting this class, as there will be absolutely no cheat sheets or formula collections for your exams.
You see some math professors walking the halls of the department and acting as if theyre the second coming of master algebraists like Lagrange and Jacobi. I suggest that they sit at Dr. Zakeris feet and learn math again, starting from root 4 all the way to Riemann manifolds!
Above all, he has this sheer humbleness to him, despite or maybe because of his encyclopedic knowledge of math and mastery of the subject (hello, functional analysis and nonlinear hyperbolic PDEs).
Good morning class. Dr. Zakeri is that rare, exceptional gem on top of SMCs crown that is the Math Department. Hes a fatherly figure, a brotherly friend, a great teacher, and a true mathematician!
He doesnt come to class with a plan so wastes most of class time doing HW instead of teaching. You probably wont learn much in class. Must know how to teach yourself or get a tutor. He can be rude & makes lots of mistakes. Exam questions require very strong algebra cause he makes up questions and they never give nice numbers. Hes also proof heavy.
Avoid taking Zakeri if you can or be prepared to teach yourself everything. I usually felt like going to class was a waste of time since.
If you are not good at algebra, his lecture won't be clear because he skip steps. He does his best to explain everything . At 1st part of the class he answers homework problem, and at 2nd part he covers a new material. 3 exam, 3 quiz, HW, and final. Read the book and his notes, study A LOT for his exams. He is very intelligent person.
Never take Math 15 with him unless you are ready to teach yourself the whole book. His tests was easy, but now it's not.
Professor Zakeri is an awesome professor who really cares students. However, you need to pay attention to the lecture and really take some time to understand it. Practice is very important. He is a nice person and helped me a lot! He concerns about your academic success.
wonderful teacher, he gave us interesting background about the material we studied. He has a phenomenal memory and math knowledge. I found him very inspiring and funny. Absolutely positively recommending him.
He is really good teacher. Even though his test was not that hard, he gave us extra credit for the exams 6 points . Also his lecture is very clear. As long as you do homework, his class is going to be easy A
By the end of the course I learned to like Zakeri. He can explain the material very well. I rarely had to read the book. His test are absolutely insane but everything he covers in lecture is fair game. He doesn't put anything on the exams that he hasnt shown in class. Other than that he's a funny dude and gives cool facts about math history.
Learn the whole book by urself if u want to take his class. He has changed!!!! I learn almost nothing from the class. Except for math15, I got all A for other math classes. never learn proof in his class, but you are gonna see it on the exam. not fair to take his class unless you have pass paper, because all these proofs are on the pass paper.
too much home work, bad lecture. Don't take his class
Although a nice teacher, he often looses track and makes mistakes when he does each problem. Also, he can be a hard grader on tests. Get ready to prep yourself.
likes to find shortcuts when lecturing. Goes way too fast. Does not answer questions he deems unworthy. Makes 5-10 mistakes per class so messes me up. As if reading from the textbook when lecturing, wastes alot of times with jokes. He was stuck on 1 problem for an hour cause of his mistakes. Very bad explaining. Will embarrass you in front of class
Do not let the bad jokes and attempts at humor fool you. He is a ruthless grader and will leave your test in shreds when you were confident you did well. Office hours immediately precede class, which he spends on his phone. Not approachable. Save yourself the intense stress and bad jokes and avoid if at all possible.
My mentor, my idol, my friend; you made me who I am today. You're brilliant. You are one in a billion. The greatest teacher and the greatest father. I will miss you I will miss you till my last breath.
