funny jokes. But too arrogant!
Good prof, but tough marker
The alleged funky professor tries to pick up those girls in the front r

not bad prof, but law sucks, too much useless info
good prof, nice girls @front of class
good prof, knows his stuff and very intelligent
Really great prof, learn a lot. Really hard marker though.
Great prof - just go to class you'll do fine
Very thorough when teaching. Kind of arrogant, but not in a terrible way.
only prof that gives closed-book tests, too young and doesnt know how to teach
MC's are easy, get burned on short answers, definately the most cocky professor
thinks he's the greatest, too stupid to realize he cant teach
Not too bad, but nothing special either
Best Prof ever. Someone to really look up to.
You're a one sad apple for looking up to him

HArd marker, hard questions, and a bit of an ****
Had hime in fourth year and he may be a little hard but I consider him to be one of the best professors at Ryerson. He always provided me with help whenever I needed it. Also, he has a great deal of practical experience.
One of the best profs at Ryerson. Regardless of your mark, you'll come out knowing your stuff, and that's what matters.
hes a really good prof, explains things well and is very approachable.his tests r to the point and only test what he talks about in class, are pretty tough tho!he doesnt like to give d's and f's so bumps ur mark up if he thinks u deserve a c rather than d.
make sure you take good notes during class, becos he covers all the impt stuff. if u do, glancing thru the textbook will be enough!
Considering the tedious nature of some of the material he does an excellent job. He's fair and tests your knowledge not your memorization skills! The essay is a good place to get a bump on your grade, as he'll reckognize your hard work. Like any 4th year course, if you're lazy don't bother.
I love his teaching style. He's very upbeat and knowledgeable. I've never had a prof who can keep my attention throughout an entire 3hr lecture. This guy does, even tho he's talking about computer law. He makes it seem interesting, and after listening to him, it really IS interesting. Great prof!
He is my best prof so far. He know's his laws and more importantly, how to teach. Although the course material is very difficult, Lan teaches it very well. If you want good marks, work hard. If you want to learn, take Lan's class.
Amazing prof. Explains concepts very well.
Definately the best professor at Ryerson. His teaching abilities are amazing. Lectures are very interesting. Although the course material is difficult, it is not very hard to get an A if you study well and take good notes.
Good teacher, make sure you go to class lectures are really useful....only thing I did not like was that participation mark, thought it is unfar
You actually LEARN in his class. Explains concepts in a way that makes it easy to understand and remember them. Go to class, you get amazing lecture notes from what he says.. Goes thru the text w/you and outlines the important things. Amazing professor. Take his classes, very worthwhile.
Great prof. Explains concepts really well. His tests are pretty hard/tricky. Have to study hard for tests.
This guy knows his stuff. I hated LAW122 (Introductory Business Law) but took LAW603 (Advance Business Law)because the other professionally related electives classes were all fill. This guy has me thinking about entering into the area of Law now. He is good...
A great prof, who takes responsibility to actually do his job right...actually teaches u the material! He's a very successful lawyer, and and gives u a lot of real life examples. As he says, the material is tricky enough itself, and does not need to trick u. Great course because a great prof made it fun!
I find Gil to be a little overbearing and quite egotistical. If you attempt to ask a question, he will either dismiss you (and then you feel stupid) or he will cut you off mid sentence. I think Gil needs to remember not all students come from a law background, but with consideration, could learn alot.
Poorly fitting pants, but otherwise an excellent and brilliant teacher.
He's a sweet guy, but most importantly he is a good prof. He's very intelligent and he also knows how to teach law. He clarifies confusing concepts and brings attention to important points. He's class is very enjoyable and worthwhile.
He does a fine job. One of the better professors I've had so far. He needs to let students finish explaining their hypothetical situations, though. He cuts them off before hearing their full story and ends up providing an answer that's right for half of the story, but not for all of it. Aside from that though, I'd be happy if I had him again.
Lan knows his stuff and his lectures are clear so you can understand the concepts but his midterms are hard.
An excellent lecturer. It is amazing how well he can explain the material. With that in mind, however, his exams are extremely difficult (all M/C). Course was open-book throughout.
A helpful and clear prof. Law itself is difficult, and Lan proves this. His midterms are difficult, but if you read the book and pay attention in class, you'll do well.
Great Prof, explains stuff clearly and understands that the study of law can be confusing and hard to understand.
Tests are too hard. Audrey Loeb is better.
Lan knows his stuff!!! He's one of those profs that actually care about students marks - he gives hints and stresses tricky areas. Take notes people!!!On his lecture and of the book - it helps alot seeing how his MT and final are open book
He is one of the best lecturers at Ryerson. This man explains everything while keeping the class interested. A treat to have!
Prof Lan is a bright lawyer, but that's it. He's NOT a good lecturer and thinks ppl in the class are wanna-be lawyers, when it's just an elec course for some. Very cocky person, as other have said, likes to hear himself alot. Class = WASTE OF TIME. Tests/exams: NOT related to his USELESS lectures so you have to be a law school Candidate to do well.
Gil is great! He's very clear about what he expects of the students and he shows concern for how we do. Make sure to participate in the lab and seat closer to the front.

Most competent teacher @Ryerson~~!..best professor that I had during all my uiversity years..I loved the way he presented his lectures...he is the most clear, accurate, enthusiastic teacher I've ever had,....he is truly an an ideal/perfect proff a student could expect...most of all I really enjoyed every one his lectures...
he thinks he's god's gift to Earth. He needs to really LEARN to teach cause right now he can't. He reads the book with you during class -is that what we are paying for? to have someone read to us? how pathetic. Lan needs to go over important chapter concepts and stop the storytelling. Don't worry tho he likes to give very low grades out-have fun!
Honestly,he is one of the most arrogant people I have ever encountered-he brags about teaching @ Osgoode,&that he has his own law firm,& that he is in the process of getting his PhD.It's a shame he didn't ask us about himself on the tests!Honestly, if you must take this course, take it with someone else!He only reads the text for you..nothing more!!
Best Best and Best professor ever~!!! Other teachers should follow his example in teaching, in delivering lectures, engaging students to participate, and in grading and testing fairly. People below -you must be the very few who are failing the course (or r simply just jealous) although I don't know how anyone could fail the course with such a great
Professor Lan is one heck of a professor. He is definetly one of the best at Ryerson. All of the other ratings are such b.s. People are just stupid so they must find a way to blame the professor for their own failings.
Awesome Prof. His lectures are extremely clear, and he's really good with helping students. Also, he's a great help if you're looking at Law School.
Great prof, a real talent for teaching. Good for anyone interested in law school. He learned the names of over 60 students in the first few weeks. He understands many things outside of law so can relate his field to other subjects that may be of interest to you. If he seems arrogant, it's because he's a lawyer. They're pretty much all that way.
keep up the good work!
He taught us well but he is subtle marker. He marked his "knew" & "old" students much higher mark. He student law but he know nothing about fairness. >> great lecture but worst marker >> he might love to see loyal fans rather than smart students >> because he is a talkative lawyer, you may never find a excuse to complaint him - very bad personalit
I took a law course with Gil 3 or 4 years ago and he is the best prof ever. He was informed and entertaining and has wonderful relevant stories to the course. I thought he was wonderful. If you want to take a class take one with Gil.
Audrey Loeb is better.
Great prof. He lecture are realy interesting you'll learn alot from his lectures. He tells great stories. go to his class get noticed and you'll do fine.
Pay attention in class. Know how to apply the concepts in the book, don't just memorize b/c you will not do as well. Prof. is one of the best at ryerson. Participate and hand in problems to get noticed and you will do well.
Honestly, just read the book, because the chapters and material are really, really easy to understand. As well, hand in the weekly "non-graded" assignments and you will be set. I lost my motivation after a good mid-term and I still pulled off a good grade at the end.
He really wants to help students learn and he's funny! Overall an awesome class.
definitly hand in the assignments weekly as participation, they will boost your grade... final isn't that hard but you have to finish it quickly or you will run out of time
Very good prof, knows his law. Attendance to classes is mandatory. Exam's are based on cases and MC.
Best Prof. ever. He is one of the few professors that I think can actually teach! He knows his stuff and presents the material in such a way that makes studying for exams a breeze. If you ever have the chance to take one of his classes, do it. You will never enjoy a class as much as his.
Accessible and knowledgable prof. Gives lots of room to learn and participate. Dedicates time to answer questions and encourage learning process. You're in great hands.
Lan is the man. Easily one of the best professors at Ryerson and I'd say he's gotten even better since I had Law122 with him a few years ago. His tests and exams are M/C cases, so expect to do more than just know what something is. You'll need to know when it applies based on different fact situations.
Normally I'm not crazy about Law courses but Gil made this one consistently interesting and engaging. He explains everything clearly and is very easy-going. The midterms are fair, the exam was more towards the harder side but it was still fair. I also give him props for having the patience to deal with some students' idiotic questions every week.
Has anecdotes relevant to the material, explains things very clearly, funny lectures. Exams are openbook/notes, BUT the answers are very similar. You need to pay attention and read the book if you hope to get a good grade. And he lets you nap in class if you need to. Awesome!
very helpful, but gives hard midterms.
Awesome prof! Highly recommended! He gives examples that are easier to understand and remember. Tests are okay as long as you read the book. he's kinda funny too.
Probably the best prof i had.
Excellent professor! Explains everything very thoroughly and always willing to take questions either during or after class and wants the students to do well. Tests and exams are based on legal problems and MC, easy if you have an interest in law, stilldoable if not. Very approachable. For those that have to take any business law, Lan is the MAN!
he is SO hard...didnt like him
Best prof for LAW 122, if you listen you will learn, and do very well in this class.
I like law122, but didn't like 603 at allll =/. He's a good prof and explains things & answers questions, but i don't like his method of not posting lecture notes/PPT to help further the learning/review process. Final was a killler.
Prof. Lan is a great teacher. If you do the readings and go to class, you'll get through the course no problem.
Great Great Prof, draws from his legal experience effectively and treats you like an adult, please respect his process!!
Great Prof! Lectures are entertaining. His real life examples make learning the material very easy. Highly recommended. I look forward to taking LAW603 with him.
TOTALLY AWESOME PROF
Makes a very complicated class/book easier with clear examples. Coming to class beats reading the extremely boring textbook. Uses real life examples, midterm was fair.
This proff is the greatest. He is very patient, crystal clear and helpful. His lectures are exremely useful so always attend. His midterms and final are fair and based on the assigned readings. No surprises. Strongly recommended !
By far the best prof that I've ever had. Very clear. Participate if you really want to learn the material. Gil is very knowledgeable and helpful when answering questions. If you study the material, you can do well in his classes.
Mr. Lan is excellent at teaching the material. He uses a lot of example to show the class on the whiteboard and is very clear. He makes some funny jokes at times (we need more of that please :P) Midterm was fair but the final was hard. It's all cases so make sure u know how to apply the concept into a case like situation. That's the difficult part!
Gil Lan is the best law professor at Ryerson. Never have I enjoyed a class as much as his class. He makes the material interesting by using examples from his experiences as a lawyer. His exams are tricky but that doesn't take away from what an incredible professor he is. For people taking this course here is some advice - READ THE FOOTNOTES IN BOOK
Gil Lan is a decent professor who knows the material well and has a good teaching style, however he can be very hard to talk to as he is not very friendly. Consider his tests fair and he is a hard essay marker
Gil knows the stuff he teaches but he is weird person though. Hardmarker and not friendly if you have any issue with marking.
good prof, but really hard midterms and final.
VERY clear and helpful. Key to this class is to read the book and attend ALL lectures. His midterm and final were hard as he does not give enough time but if you study hard and truly have a passion for it you'll nail it!
This course is challenging. Prof. Lan loves to test technicalities and footnotes from the textbook, so make sure that you have the latest edition and you know it very well. Nevertheless, he is friendly and engaging. He has an eidetic memory, which can be creepy but also wildly entertaining.
I absolutely love this professor. He is one of the best I have ever had in my several years in post-secondary (I've been in 3 schools). He is clear, interesting, and extremely helpful. He takes the time to know his students names and wants participation. If you listen to him and study the text you'll do well. I've taken 2 classes & 1 this semester.
Gil definitely knows his stuff and understands the text is very difficult. He does his best to summarize the text and skips over trial information. READ the text ATTEND every lecture and you will be completely fine. The midterm and exam were both very fair with no tricks. The essay is short but make sure you do your research.
Gil is an amazingly articulate and fair law professor. Being in the law major, you'll see all kinds of different styles of teaching and Gil really knows what he's doing. He writes questions for the bar exam! He is 100% fair and quite frankly, everything is found in the book. Take it from someone who gets 100s on his tests.
AMAZING PROF, probably the best one I have ever had at ryerson. Explains everything and makes sure that he goes through all material that he puts on exams .. no surprises! Go to class and take good notes and you will get a good mark!
Excellent Prof! Organized, knows how to teach. Funny and energatic! Highly recommended!
AMAZING PROF!! he really knows what he's teaching and the way he teaches makes you really interested in the course. he teaches with a lot of enthusiasm. it is VERY IMPORTANT to attend EVERY LECTURE because his midterms and finals are all from his lectures so pay attention and take good notes you will ace the course :)
Great Prof! The midterm and final were not that hard, just make good notes from the textbook.
Brilliant guy. Very enthusiastic about his class. He's awesome.
Brilliant prof! Really cares about his students and makes a true effort to get to know and help his students. Really cares to see his classes succeed. Super clear on topics, and has no problem taking the time to go over difficult content with you to make sure you really get it!
Amazing professor. Fair, articulate, knowledgeable. One of the best professors I have ever had in Ryerson. He truly has an impact on your learning.
good teaching skills, not fair on exams and marking, being humble is a quality that makes a person beautiful, unfortunately Gil is not a beautiful person :( unfriendly when is comes marking issues. He acts as if he thinks he is the god of law...i wonder if it ever crosses his mind that his student might be a physicist ;)
Excellent prof! he's really knowledgeable and explains concepts very well. Midterms and final are open book but make sure you study for them like they aren't.
Not helpful and making anything clearer during his lectures. He expects for students to be knowledgeable about the topic and asks the class for participation. The lecture is usually referring to text, discussion of the example cases, and student participation. No additional content is taught by himself.
GREAT LECTURER! I would take another law class with him again. Tests are fair but can be tricky. Footnotes are your best friend when it comes to tests.
not recommended
Very clean and midterm/final exam were straight from the textbook examples.
Great professor. Explains concepts clearly and to the point. Very engaging and interesting class. Wouldrecommend/10, also do you even lift bro?
I had him for both LAW 603 & 724 this past term and all I can say is that he is the most amazing law prof at Ryerson. Assignments, midterms, and final exam are very fair - you get what you put in and he is more than willing to help you out during his office hours. I'd recommend him as a prof in a heartbeat.
Amazing prof! Truly knew what he was talking about. He had really good examples that helped everyone.
One of the few profs at Ryerson that actually has teaching skills. Absolutely incredible prof. Read the book, attend the lecture and participate in class, and you guaranteed to have a good mark. Bell curves +7% to your mark.
By far the best law professor at Ryerson. He's not easy by any means- he's fair. Go to EVERY class and read the book and you will come out with an A. He teaches with enthusiasm and keeps you engaged for 3 hours. Amazing professor.
amazing prof, very helpful. Always attend class, he keeps you fully engaged and gives great examples. Tough but fair marker, just do the readings and attend class and his discussions will clear up any questions you have. Very helpful in office hours with regards any extra help you may need clarifying. Best prof at ryerson
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! Makes material very simple to understand. You would not wanna skip his class just because is so much fun. Very helpful in class and during office hours. If you skim through the chapter before class and pay attention in class, you got an A. First prof I have seen getting an round of applause from the entire class on the last day.
AMAZING PROF!!! Knows what he's talking about. Makes it very east to understand even the hard topics. Very fair exams. You will come out of this class learning so much about business law that you would need in your everyday life regardless what profession you go in. Don't even think twice, Take this Prof!!
textbook is very, very boring but his lectures were interesting. His midterm and final were based off important topics covered in lecture so its important you attend the lectures and take really good notes on what he's saying. If you do this, you'll get a really good mark. (open book tests)!
Great prof with excellent knowledge of the profession and subject of law. He gives great examples and is engaging. Do the readings to be able to participate in class-- it pays off. He's very supportive of students, and is helpful with office hours. He's not 'easy', but he's fair. If you put in the work, he rewards it. I'd take his classes again.
Great Prof. Not easy, but fair - that is exactly Gil. He is very enthusiastic, he makes the course interesting and understandable compared to the significantly complex, confusing and boring text used. MUST attend lectures or you will be so lost its incredible. Take very detailed notes and keep up with readings, has hard as that is it's a must!
Very helpful and simple explanation. Always ready to take questions and feed back. Knows his subject well. Friendly gestures and encouraging
Hands down best LAW prof at Ryerson! He makes lectures very interesting for students by providing examples we actually understand. Tests are not easy but many of the examples he talks about in class show up on tests. Also, he's very into footnotes. I would say try to take as many law classes with him because he actually cares about his students.
My favourite professor at Ryerson!!! Seriously, he is so clear about what he wants and is very willing to help He even extends office hours nearing the midterm and final for those who need help. Definitely go to class and write down notes. He made the course very interesting.
Great Prof. The man knows his stuff and his lectures reflect this. He is very good at conveying key points. The text is long, get ready to highlight - but its a great read if your going into law. Highly recommended course and Professor.
One of the hardest classes Ive taken so far but material was interesting and relatable. Prof was a clear and engaging lecturer. But material was difficult if you didn't have a good understanding of underlying concepts.
Gil is by far my favourite prof at Ryerson. He makes his lectures very interesting making the 3 hours enjoyable rather than painful. He knows his stuff and clearly explains everything, putting emphasis on the extremely important concepts and makes sure everyone understands the material. If you have the opportunity, take one of his courses!
He's as clear as it gets, best prof for law at Rye. Going to lectures is definitely key as he stresses the important concepts (loves footnotes). On the plus side, if you're interested in law school he's the one to talk to. Supportive and honestly wants the best for you. Put in the work and you'll get what you put in.
The most AMAZING prof at Ryerson!! Come to lectures. He makes them very enjoyable and interesting. By far, the best prof I have ever had.
Professor Lan is by far the best law professor I have had so far, in terms of actually learning real life lessons. For those who are not used to typing as the professor speaks, it may take some getting used to. Emphasizes the key points in every lecture and doesn't deviate from the topic. Recommended for any law majors!
I hated his teaching style at first, it's very unique, but eventually got used to it, and actually liked it. The textbook is dull and boring, but he makes the content as interesting as possible. Very fair marker, and is always there for you if you need him.
I loved Gil. His lectures were very clear and he wrote everything on the board, he never used a PowerPoint. (But because of this you HAVE to take clear notes and attend class). He gives very valuable feedback. The best law prof I've had at Ryerson thus far.
He is the best prof! Only prof I have seen getting a standing ovation by the whole class during the last class. After taking his class, you would wanna go into law. His lectures are never boring, he keeps everyone engaged in class. Don't miss his exam reviews, and try to read the chapter before class if u can. If you see his name, take him!!!!!
The only prof to teach this course.
Overall, Gil Lan is a fantastic professor. However, he does not give out marks freely. If you attend all the lectures, understand the material, and read the textbook before class- you can attain a B+ to A. Recommendation: For his final and midterm, he prefers 2-3 sentence answers versus a paragraph explanation. Highlight and sticky note.
Law603 is not an easy course itself, but the way Gil Lan teaches it makes it easier for the students to learn and understand. His lectures are not long, they are engaging and interesting! If you read the textbook, attend class, and participate in class, the midterms and final will not be a problem!
Gil Lan was an outstanding professor and he is a privilege to have at Ryerson. He makes someone in accounting want to go into law, or at least make them highly engaged in business law. His lectures are KEY in doing well for his midterms and final, and his teaching style is great because it forces lazy students to HAND WRITE their notes.
Gil is one of my favourite profs. It was an honour being in his class. Go to every lecture and read the assigned readings and you'll do good. His lectures are phenomenal.
Tests were VERY fair. Just know the significance of every case, and know the course principles and you should fine.
He's hard but fair. If you do the readings and listen in class I guarantee an A.
Gil is great! The textbook for this class is daunting but Gil walks you through it and tells you important info from each case. Go to every class, highlight and take notes on cases he mentions, and make a master cheat sheet before exams with each case you talk about and its importance and you'll do great!
Gil Lan could be my favourite prof at Ryerson. His lectures are interesting and he makes a genuine effort to get to know his students. Attendance is mandatory as the exam is lecture heavy. He is a very fair marker, a tough but caring professor, and has helped me solidify my intent to pursue a career in law.
This guys is literally the epitome of being a narccistic GREAT GUY who will say verbatim" If it sounds like I'm trying to scare you I am". He rushes, he knows his stuff but is reallllllllllllllly antagonistic. I would really avoid DO YOUR READINGS
Gil made you want to come to a 9 am lecture. He tells you what to expect on the tests and teaches the material so you really understand. The textbook in this course is extremely dense and there's a lot of material you must read. If you keep up with the readings, attend lectures, and make notes on the content you're sure to do well.
Gil was a great prof. He teaches well and his examples are really well explained, which helps understand the material. He is definitely tough, but fair; really have to word hard and read all your materials if you want to get over a B.
Gil is an amazing professor. He is nice, respectful & his lectures are straightforward. He uses powerpoint only as a talking point, so you have to make sure you write down as much as possible. His tests are also fair. Make sure you read and understand the textbook for tests but going to the lectures helps out a lot. Definitely would recommend him!
Professor Lan is very knowledgeable and very approachable. The tests are tough but fair. Very detail oriented and tests include questions based on the textbook footnotes so make sure to read everything thoroughly. His lectures help explain tough concepts. He is always available to review tests and questions. Would definitely take him again.
Knowledgeable. Passionate. Clear. Nice. Funny. Fair. What more do you want from a professor. Recommend any day.
He does an amazing job of stimulating your interest and provides a challenging - yet realistic outlook on how the law is conducted. Focus mainly on what he explains on the lectures as a very similar scenario will appear on the test. He will test on footnotes, the key is to take good notes which incorporate them. Lectures are very entertaining.
Difficult course, not an easy grader (not the hardest grader either), very knowledgeable and effective Professor.
He is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and goes above and beyond to explain course concepts. He gives solid advice on how to study for the midterm and final exam. He repeats concepts to make sure the class is understanding. It is clear that this professor is passionate about teaching.
One of my favourite profs at Rye. Attend his lectures!! He will help you understand the content so much faster and clearer. You should still read the textbook as many of his test questions come from footnotes, and minute paragraph details. Gives great advice and is very clear on how he expects test questions to be answered!
One of the best professors at Ryerson hands down. He explains everything very well and you can tell he wants all of his students to succeed. He uses the slides from the textbook company so you need to go to class since they are not clear at all. LAW 603 is a tricky course but he made it very do-able. Definitely would take his class again.
Amazing prof! His lectures are the full 3 hours but he has a way of making them super interesting. Doing assigned reading before each lecture helps as he lectures by the book. Exams are open book and fairly easy if you know your stuff. Can't wait to take LAW603 with him in the future!
AMAZING prof. By far, one of the best professors at Ryerson. He's extremely intelligent and has a teaching style that's not too hard but also not too laid back. If you go to class and DO THE READINGS (a must), this class should be an easy A. Though, many students don't do the readings and get screwed. Lectures are interesting and engaging!
Gil is a great prof. Very invested and passionate during lectures. The textbook is dense, but he helps outline the important sections and break them down effectively.
Great prof! Had him for LAW534 before this and HAD to take him again. Explains concepts very clearly and is always happy to help if there's any confusion. Will guide you on the paper to make sure you're going in the right direction. Gives great feedback on exams and papers as well!
AMAZING professor. You can feel the passion for what he teaches through his eyes and tone. I could not be bored in his lectures even if I tried. His exams and readings are not easy, but with this prof, you will do well I guarantee you.
Take this course with him!! Lectures although sometimes long are still somewhat interesting. He also helps you through the insanely large and intimidating textbook. Lectures are not mandatory to attend if you just do the readings however are really helpful on understanding the concepts. Essay was also straightforward and marked fairly. GREAT PROF!
The textbook was intimidating but Gil does such a good job of clarifying and further explaining the concepts. I would say the lectures are necessary if you really want to do well. He tells you exactly what he expects as an answer and he is a fair grader. Lectures are full 3 hrs long but you learn a lot and you won't be bored.
He is one of the most caring and educational profs I've had. Lan really cares about the success of his students and is readily available after or before class, just email him. Yes, the class is heavy with the reading, but he clarifies everything in class, SO GO! Make good notes, pay attention- gives great feedback on essays, exams straightforward
Great prof. Lectures are really interesting and engaging. I was very much a fan of his teaching style.
A great marker and very understanding person. Although you HAVE to do the readings to pass and there are a lot, if you go to his lectures, he breaks them down very well. Didnt end up finishing the midterm because of time issues but I still got a great grade because he marks very fair.
The course itself is reading heavy but the professor makes the class really fun and engaging. Thanks to the clear grading criteria given in class you already know what to look for on the exam when taking notes!
He explains the content decent but a lot of the times, he starts talking about random things and wastes time. Then he starts to rush himself to finish any other content from the slides. He is a hard marker and looks for very specific answers. He is a decent prof, can't complain. Read the textbook thoroughly, would be good to read before each class
Gil is an amazing law professor and I would definitely recommend taking law534 with him. He's quite enthusiastic when lecturing, so I never found his lectures boring (he does full 3-hour lectures). If you attend all his classes, read the assigned pages, actively listen, and take notes during his lectures, you will do great!
Great prof, very interesting and his lectures are engaging for a full 3 hour class
One of the better law professors, he will tell you specific pages to focus on for the test and the tests are very similar to in-class examples, no surprises. Sucks he only teaches 603 and 534 - would have taken all my law courses with Gil if I could have.
He really cares about his students and makes a lot of effort to see them succeed. He goes above an beyond to make sure tests are fair in terms of grading. Hes obviously very experienced and knowledgeable in the field. My only criticism is in lecture he can repeat himself a lot to the point that it gets frustrating
Professor Lan is very fair, and he makes his expectations very, very clear. He assigns practice questions that he then takes up in class to prepare students for the final exam, which helps a lot. He also restates important points constantly which helps students remember. The only downside is he teaches via a three hour mandatory zoom class.
Gil was one of the best professors that I have had in a while. Don't get me wrong, you need to follow his advice to do well and that basically means reading the textbook BEFORE LECTURES. But once you do that his lectures are really insightful thorough and interactive which prepares you very well for the tests and exam.
Gil Lan is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students and how they do. he thoroughly explains all concepts and makes sure that everyone is following along. His examples are very clear and prepare you well for the exams. Make sure to do the readings before class and pay attention during the lecture and you will be fine!
If you attend lectures and pay attention, you will get a good grade because he is a very fair professor. You can tell he really cares about the class and students.
Gil Lan is an excellent speaker keeping the class engaged throughout the entire lecture. Business Law is not the most exciting topic to learn about but Gil made the easily understandable by using everyday relatable examples. There were no unexpected surprises on the exam. Show up to class, take good notes, and you will do well.
Professor Lan is very smart and he explains the concepts very well. Lectures are long but thorough and very useful. You have to read a lot, but if you read on time - you will be fine. Take notes and make sure you understand the concepts. He is a fair grader.
Professor Lan is the best professor I've ever had. Not only is he extremely knowledgable in regulatory law, but he is passionate about his craft. This is an educator who wants the best for his students, and loves what he does which translates into a better experience for us. LISTEN to his many clues (to do well in exams/essay) and STUDY STUDY STUDY
Relies on textbook too much. Slides are bare-bone. If his slides had more detail, the course would be 10x easier. The textbook is ugly, paperback, expensive, and lacks an online counterpart. Notes made by past students who added detail to his slides made this class easier to understand. Overall, pretty garbage course material. He's a nice guy tho.
Dr. Lan is an amazing prof who teaches you how to answer law questions using the IRAC model. exams are based on how clearly you answer the questions using the relevant laws that are applicable. This is an advanced level business law course and the profs slides are not supposed to be something you rely on. you have to read the textbook.
Very strange overbearing persona with this guy... He loves a good power trip and will go out of his way to make your life difficult. Chose a textbook the size of a bible for a silly undergrad course. Of course it's updated all the time.. $$ cha-ching. Be prepared for lengthy tests.. you will run out of time. Avoid if at all possible!!!
Prof. Lan is probably the best prof I had in Ryerson/TMU. Course covers a lot of material but it is manageable. Answer the questions with ILA and you will be fine and probably the fairest grader I have seen so far. tldr: enrol in his lectures before space runs out.
He was really nice and helpful; his lectures were very interactive. Textbook is super wordy and hard to decipher so go to class. He's very self-aware, will automatically give grade adjustments if he deems necessary. There were no surprises on tests. One big minus is the bare-bone slides, which makes it harder to prepare notes & understand content.
If you have the opportunity to take LAW603 with Prof. Lan, I highly suggest taking it with him. His lectures are really interesting, and they are worth the full 3hrs.
Absolute yapfest. 70% of the class is him asking people to summarize the textbook readings and the other 30% is him delivering unrelated anecdotes about his life
Best prof I have ever had, made every class interesting and not boring at all and is very clear regarding exams with the best slides to prepare you for exams
Amazing lecturer and prof. Weekly attendance is crucial, covers the topics v thoroughly & provides lots of helpful examples. Exams are v fair, 3 exams weighted 30%, 30%, and 40%. Last exam cumulative but not many questions regarding exam 1&2 info. Cares about his students & v knowledgeable in his profession. AND BUY TEXTBOOK!!!
Lan is a great prof. You MUST read all of the assigned readings and try your best to attend class every week to do well in this course because it is not easy. Sometimes Lan goes off topic during lectures but overall he teachers well.
Amazing prof. Highly knowledgeable and very fair marker. No surprises in exams, he's very clear with what he wants so pay attention in class where he'll drop hints. Doing readings prior to class is ideal so you can understand his lectures better and the cases he references - you'll have to do the readings at some point regardless. Don't stress!
One of the best profs you could have. Can sidetrack during lectures at times but overall does a good job at lecturing and simplifying trickier concepts. Wroth the full 3 hr lectures. Same textbook as law122 so if you have that one keep it. Pay attention in class and do practice qs and you'll be good. Ask for help and go to office hours if needed
10/10 prof. Tells you everything you have to do to be successful in the course. As long as you attend his lectures, write down all the important things he says in class, and do the required cases, you should do well. There were no surprises on the midterms and exams and he is a very fair marker. Would definitely recommend.
Don't be intimidated by the textbook. Do the weekly readings and attend his lectures- they help so much with understanding. DO NOT leave the readings/ notes until last minute. Tests were not as difficult as I was expecting. Make sure you go to his office hours (early on) to review your essay topic before you start writing. Chill prof who cares.
Dr. Gil Lan is an amazing professor and I would 100% take his classes again. His lectures are intestering but just make sure to read the textbook before his lectures.
Attend lectures and do the readings - it really helps with understanding the course material. Unstuck AI is a great tool for practice quizzes and exam prep. Test questions aren't too difficult if you stay on top of the work.
i hate him
GIL LAN is amazing. He goes through his exam after we've done it and if he realizes it is unfair in some way he will add 1-2% to our final mark. I passed with 51%. It just shows how much this prof cares unlike so so many other professors, bro deserve's a raise. W PROF!!!
just go to class and listen and you will do well hes an easy marker and gives really good examples in class so the concepts are easy to understand. always open to answering questions. this was my easiest class and im not even a law student, def take this class with gil
Awesome prof. Great at teaching and the exams are fair. Doing the readings before the lecture also helps a ton.
You gotta read the textbook to do well. I also recommend reading the assigned chapters before the lectures, as this makes the content a lot easier to follow along and understand. Gil is also great at explaining everything.
Amazing prof. Explains concepts so clearly - I'd be confused after reading the textbook and then I'd attend his class and would understand everything. Gil really wants to see his students succeed, there aren't any tricks in his exams. Great prof and I would 10000% take again.
Great professor! Be sure to either read the textbook or attend the lectures as not all case information is on the slides! Exams are open book but you need to apply cases to fact scenarios, so a list of cases with their key points is important, especially for the final exam bc it's cumulative and by the end of the course you have over 40 cases!
The best prof I have ever had since being an undergrad. Try to get your readings at least a week before your exam. There are A LOT of cases, but use the slides to reference the cases to study the most. He cares for his students' success, so if you need help, attend office hours! I got a B+ on the first test but an A+ on my final. Best prof!
Gil lan is an amazing prof. He is the best prof I've had in my undergrad, and I'm not a law student. Firstly he's very knowledgeable and knows his stuff so he's able to explain concepts clearly to you and in an engaging way. Second he's such a nice guy and you can tell he wants you to succeed. If you get the chance take him you won't regret it :)
Great prof the exams were fair and very easy if u read the textbook and slides
Great prof, amazing lectures. He makes sure to explain everything in detail. He's very clear about expectations for the exams and his grading criteria. Also very knowledgeable and nice to his students. Would recommend.
