Very well distributed class. Over al very interesting. Helpful over email or office hours.
Very funny. Pretty clear on what he's teaching. Gives good examples.
He's a great lecturer. Expects participation. Funny, informative and inspiring lectures. Gets you thinking. His class is tough but it's possible to be successful, just make sure you keep up on the readings.
I had Mr. Estrada for 2 classes, and wow I have never learned so much history ... His lectures are very interesting, he knows so much. He gives plenty of Extra credit and his exam style is great for me, just study, and take good notes.
He has 1 powerpoint that he used, it had 400 slides. Makes lots of Mexican jokes (class is about mesoamerican culture) that get old pretty quickly. Expect a "mid"term a month before the semester is over followed closely by the final exam. Would get upset when students wouldn't participate and didn't articulate points well. Take good notes or else.
Disorganized lectures, some are CP from Wikipedia, flips though his PP slides like he is watching Network TV, asks questions he doesn't know the answer to ,unhelpful when asking questions, little to no critique when grading assignments: just puts a number on your paper, requires Primary Sources on final wout outline to write a decent paper. AVOID!
Great professor, really made the class enjoyable to come to. He is a real dude not that guy that you feels is there to pick up a check. Gives study guides that tell you what is going to be on the test. He made you think a lot on how the past really affects your future and modern times. Would take again if the opportunity arrives
great class, 3 test a semester which he gives you a study guide for(also lets you bring a page of notes) ,gets you thinking about history and its effects
He is an alright professor. Boring, and likes to crack jokes that aren't funny. Treats you like you're in high school with the phone his irrational phone policy. His slides are unorganized, and his exams are essay based incase you don't like writing.
Estrada is a great teacher, and his lectures are interesting and funny. His exams are essay based but he lets you use an 8x11" sheet with as many notes as you can put on it so there's no reason for you to do bad on an exam of his. Overall he is a great professor and I'd take him again.
I took hist18 and it was semi easy. Make sure to not miss a class, there are only 4 tests and they are all essays. Make sure to site your lectures and books in your essays and you will do great.
I very much enjoyed the subject matter. Professor Estrada is a very fun teacher, but I felt that the class was somewhat disorganized. Power Point slides were a mess, repetitive, full of typos. If I was a History major, I would probably choose another professor. I'm not, so I will probably take Estrada again for 8B and get a relatively easy A.
great lectures... makes learning easy. The few complaints here are typical... this is college.... be ready to read, write, and think.... we need more of it...
There are 3 exams, one essay based on a book which was good but depressing. He tired to get us involved , but the class didn't like to speak much. He bought us food 3 times. Its pretty obvious he's trying his best to get students involved. Makes history interesting.
Professor Estrada is a great teacher, and his lectures are interesting and funny. His exams are essay based but he lets you use an 8x11" sheet with as many notes as you can. There's 1 project due at the end. Overall he is a great professor and I'd take him again.
good class. fun art project. didn't want to do it at first but glad i did. open note tests, take great notes.
Dr. Estrada is great. I enjoy his lectures. Don't plagiarize, and give good thought to your responses and essays and you should be good. Use and computer and not a phone if you take his online class, it is obvious in the forum.
VERY SARCASTIC. Almost too sarcastic. One quiz, mid term, essay, and final. He allows a one page cheat sheet for tests. You don't need the book but it might help. If you participate, he'll like you. If you don't take notes, he'll call you out. A very blunt and informative speaker. Learned so much throughout the course, really glad I took it.
Never gave me anything higher than a B. When I emailed him to try and better my grade, he gave me a sarcastic and demeaning answer. It was like he was offended that I questioned his grading when I was just trying to better my grade. He mentioned that half the class failed the mid term. When its that bad I blame the teacher. History is not that hard
This review is a few semesters late. Great lectures. His powerpoints are some of the best I've ever seen. I learned a lot. Three exams, open note so you have to study for them. Readings are a mix of textbook and online stuff. I'm taking 8B this semester.
great class. makes history interesting. very straightforward. Most students should do well.
great class. Yeah, he's sarcastic, but he's pretty funny. There's a lot to cover, but you really learn a lot. Lots of reading. Lots of extra credit. No scantrans, which isn't as bad as it sounds, it's college.
funny. good class. opened my eyes to alot.
GROUP PROJECTS. BUT THEY WEREN'T THAT BAD. LEARN MORE IN THIS CLASS THAN IN MOST CLASSES. 3 exams. open note.
you'll learn a lot of history. the workload is about average college level.
lots of reading
I would never take his class again. I can't vouch for him in the classroom, but this online class was the worst. He didn't put up complete lectures, he gave condescending answers to questions, and had essay prompts about material that wasn't provided. The material was interesting, but he was so unorganized, yet maintained a high and mighty attitude
Learned a lot
3 exams, an essay on racism, no quizzes, one textbook,
Dr Estrada is an amazing professor who I would gladly take again. He lets you know exactly whats going to be asked of you on exams and lets you bring in a study sheet. The first was a take - home which you have plenty of time to do and the rest were in class exams that were a breeze if youre prepared. He makes learning history tolerable as well !
He is a tough grader. Get ready to write, ALOT. If writing is not your strong suit, stay away from his class. I put in a lot of work in my essays. When I asked why I was just getting B's he was very rude and sarcastic. He did not care about helping me at all. I ended up dropping the class. Would never take again !
At first he came off as sarcastic and made me want to drop the class. But Dr. Estrada knows his stuff he was clear in what exactly he wanted in his tests, essays, and projects. Absolutely would take him again. 3 tests, 1 art project and 1 essay based on the art project.
Dr. Estrada is a good and funny guy but his lectures can get heavy & he crams in a lot of lecture. His lectures sometimes are super fast and its hard keeping up especially, with a lot of mesoamericana terms and names & historical figures. Personally, I think hes also a tough grader. I think he would rather five Bs than As even if its A worthy.
Dr. Estrada is very fast paced in his lectures. Not to say they're particularly difficult. He's a good guy.
Hes a great professor, the class isnt difficult and there isnt a huge workload. Your grade is based on bi weekly quizzes that are about 15-20 yes or no questions(lets you use notecard cheat sheet) , an art project at the end of the semester, and a 4-6 page essay answering questions about the project. He also offers a lot of extra credit
Very funny. Awesome sense of humor I enjoyed learning from him. He cares about you succeeding. If you study and take good notes then you'll get an A. This class isn't difficult. The only way you can fail this class is by trying to fail. He's a seasoned professor he knows his stuff. I recommend his class.
Professor Estrada is such an awesome professor! He always grades fairly and is always willing to give extra help to those that need it. Professor Estrada also always tries to lighten up his lectures with his comedic side, and I must say he's quite funny! I definitely recommend taking his course; You'll learn a lot.
I have taken Prof Estrada twice, he is one of my least favorite, he goes off topic frequently and wonders why people ask him the same question over and over again. He would be rude to students when they did not laugh at his jokes. His feedback is extremely unprofessional. I regret taking him again.
I took this class thinking I'd learn more of the 'history' taught in high school. It turns out there's a lot that, for whatever reason, is left out. What I liked most about the class are Dr. Estrada's lectures. If you take this class you'll come to appreciate America's past and develop a better understanding of the challenges its people faced.
Feedback is extremely unprofessional, rude to students, bad grader, goes off topic
I really enjoyed this course. The material was interesting and he was able to cover so much history in one short semester. It was pure lecture, bi-weekly quizzes, and an art project and essay at the end. I really liked his humor and it made the class more fun but I think some people just didnt get his sarcasm.
I really enjoyed this class. His lectures were interesting, he was sarcastic and funny and was overall enjoyable. Learned not only about my culture and history but about myself through the material we learned.
Took this class in a dual course mashup. He wasn't even my teacher but I just had to review because he is just the worst. He lectures unprofessionally. He yells to add "emphasis' in points he's trying to make. The information he teaches about is really what we learn in high school with a little "extra." I DO Not recommend, but it is easy. up to u.
Dr. Estrada lectures were very interesting. He does ramble alot and pretty disorganized but overall the class was exciting and interesting. Make sure to ask questions and don't fall asleep.
he does not offer helpful feedback at all. he does not seem welcoming for advice or help. he doesnt mind failing students. he doesnt care about you
Professor Estrada was really informative and did a good job introducing students to Chicano history. He expects students to do their readings, study, take notes and participate in class discussions. Please don't come to class and expect to use your phone, fall asleep or chit chat while he is lecturing. He offers many opportunities for ex credit.
Every class is a comedy show and you still learn about the subject.
Great professor he has a great attitude and humor. grading is fair, passing his class is easy. Everything is in the syllabus and canvas. although you can pass this class with some reading I recommend to read and watch the videos he provides, thats probably the only homework he gives besides some extra credit. Recommend Him for any Class.
Amazing class! A very entertaining way to learn about history, his class is not difficult but you do have to do all of your work and pay attention on his lectures.
I took him last semester and got a c. I retook the class with a different professor and got an A. If youre serious about your education, DO NOT take his class. Hes a failed comedian whos teaching by default. He does not care about his students. Youll be wasting months of your life.
LBCC needs to investigate his teaching credentials. Its highly probable that theyre doctored.
If you look at all the negative reviews, theyre basically saying the same thing; hes very unprofessional!
I highly recommend taking Estrada for any HIST classes. Reading is key and essential for lecture participation. Always has time for students that apply themselves and show effort. If you looking to actually learn and invest in his class you can achieve an easy A. Don't USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS! Super fun and interesting class easy to get involved.
Yeah he's funny but he sucks at teaching and he blames the class for not knowing material he never covered
He is super off topic and makes fun of students for not understanding his jokes. Horrible teacher, would not reccomend him at all.
So off topic, always clowning on kids and never really teaches
Dont take this teacher you will regret it if you actually want to learn
He informed us students that 85% of us were failing then proceeded to question OUR collective intellect. Maybe Im wrong, but if 85% percent is failing it might be the professor. Just a thought.
I seriously regret enrolling for this class. His teaching style is very distracting- he lectures quickly & makes the same jokes every class, wasting time. Even worse, he sent out a mass email shaming the class for not doing well on our test in the middle of a PANDEMIC. He blamed his students even though his teaching & test were wack :(
Fun professor, happily helps with any questions and is easily approachable.
This really was an inspirational professor. Not only did I want to learn what we were discussing in class but I wanted to learn more.
Annoying and not efficient. I am not the best writer but he contradicts himself a lot and very narcissistic in his comments. I imagined this course to be not so bad, but honestly was not worth it. I do respect that he does take the time to comment on everyone's work.
Take a different professor. he doesn't allow you to use any outside sources to make your writing better. instead, you're left with useless slides full of pictures and repeated slides, and a textbook that is not as comprehensive. his comments can be unnecessarily aggressive, and then gives you a low score. and not really helpful feedback either.
If you are faint of heart and hate to think, get away from Dr. Estrada because he will CHALLENGE YOU! His knowledge is vast, and so is his sarcasm. If you get easily offended and don't like your beliefs to be challenged, don't even bother. I took "History of THE AMERICAS (NOT AMERICA), and it was awesome. Beware, he is a tough grader!
Hes shouldnt even be a professor. Hes very disorganized. Get ready to be confused & criticized if you have any contrasting ideas.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Rude and unprofessional! Interacts with his students as if theyre beneath him.
He is one of the most intense graders I've ever seen. I could work all day on a tiny project and receive a B just because of an irrelevant issue. He does not teach history, he just gives art assignments. It's impossible to satisfy his needs and he does not teach-it's basically all self-taught because the only thing we do in class is review art.
You're on your own in this class
Ended up dropping his class.
This course offered a lot of information and instead of only assigning readings and quizzes/tests he used different projects to teach the subjects. Every assignment was different and somewhat challenging but once you understood what was expected, they were doable. This is my second course with him and I've gotten a lot out of his classes.
No zoom class. One weekly assignment usually. Do them, you'll be fine. Learned a lot from readings and assignments. I took chicano studies. Prof honestly not very helpful, but still a good class.
18$ book he is strict about questions because the syllabus answers everything took no exams only projects which were so easy !!! He is funny and this course is quite interesting. He gives extra credit and drops your lowest grade you guys should take him believe
ARROGANT. Online class, Gral Ed. Thinks very high of himself; has a PDF on how and when to email him. He includes examples where students said how 'he lost weight', 'his new haircut looks great', 'he is their favorite professor'. Do not expect him answering emails with concerns about his grading, or any help from him. He's God/Dr./Prof. ARROGANT.
I saw all of the negative ratings but I thought I would try him out anyways. I SHOULD'VE LISTENED TO THE REVIEWS. I have no idea how this guy became a professor. It's like talking to a 15 year old. He is full of himself and lacks empathy. DO NOT take his class if your serious about your education.
I just want to say that this teacher is absolutely horrible. This was a winter class, but I have never seen a more lazy teacher than this one. This professor's lectures are hours long and he just reads off his own slides. They were also dated from 2018, so this professor cant even update his own work to show any interest. BEWARE.
Only two weeks into the semester and already can't stand this guy. Full of himself, yet can't teach. If you plan on taking him, don't. He seemingly wants to be an art history professor but got stuck teaching regular history, so now I'm using CRAYONS in a college level course.. AVOID THIS TEACHER IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY YOUR SEMESTER.
Awful. I've spent more time completing the coloring book pages he assigns than learning about history. I am not kidding when I say "coloring book pages." He sends us pdfs of children's activities taken right from the mexican institute of anthropology website. I'm a college student doing connect-the-dot puzzles, and I can't help but feel insulted.
Pretty funny dude, but mediocre professor, his lecture slides are amusing but he rambles a lot. Not a lot of substance in the class. Workload was above average, with essays monthly, discussions and playposits weekly. It was whatever.
For your own sanity, DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE FROM THIS PROFESSOR. His course work, and organization of the class, is extremely confusing. Also, I'm not sure if it's because we are almost done with the semester, but he has stopped posting lectures with his slides, and still requires us to citate the course content for our assignments. STAY AWAY!
Not only does he want you to cite his lectures in your papers, you read that right; he didn't have us cite the information he pulled his lectures from but him. His lectures are unbearable. He has weird dramatic music and he makes off-putting jokes, our entire class discord chat was constantly complaining about his lectures. Misogynistic vibes.
I took Professor Estrada for both History8A & History11. He is an annoyingly hard grader at times. I understand its to better your skills but you will get docked points if you make even the tiniest mistake. He is a good professor but it's never that serious where you need to take off 15 points because you spell Huitzilopochtli incorrectly.
His classes are all about him, not the students. Dont waste your semester with this guy.
Easy online class.
What a corny class man! This is online so you would expect a little quiz/exam here and there, write a few papers, few online assignments, whatnot. No! You design art projects and do color by numbers! and you do multiple im talking like 5-6 weekly. You don't learn a single thing and instead learn how to draw and color like in 1st grade. Stay away.
I am a student taking his class and this has been one of the most infuriating subjects ever for me. He is lazy when it comes to grading work, sadly I am failing this class because he said he "couldn't see" my assignment which he did not make the effort to at least find a way to look at them. On top of that, he is also very slow and bad at feedback.
He is lazy and slow when it comes to grading. he is a tough grader so you have to do the homework exactly how he wants it. the homework also locks so you have to turn it in on time otherwise you will get a zero. Don't take him unless you are truly ready for a challenge.
Grades slowly, grades tough, a little passive aggressive, but overall a passionate and fun teacher. His lectures are actually enjoyable to watch. I wouldn't take his class again just because the stress of never knowing what my grade was, paired with his harsh grading was anxiety inducing. but if you're fine with that it'll be a good fit for you.
Dont take his class. All of his assignments consist of coloring and recording videos of yourself to submit of you explaining your artwork. I wasn’t learning anything and I am a history major, this class wasn’t benefiting me in any way. He seems like an alright guy but as your Hist 18 professor? Not so much.
He gives a little bit of assignment but are high graded. Overall, he is awesome and be ready to learn and do not miss assignments which can impact your grade, although he does give 2 chances to resubmit late work.
Do not take his class, he is the most harsh grader you will ever encounter. Its like nothing you do is ever enough. He seems nice, but the work you do in class is pointless and wont have you learning. I regret taking his class and I do not recommend him to anyone.
He grades way too hard. He takes weeks to grade assignments & a lot of the assignments are similar. If you did poor on one assignment, you wouldn't know, so you continue to do it the only way you know. His rubrics are very vague & if you have questions, he'll refer you back to the rubric. He doesn't give feedback on how to do a better job. Trash.
worst professor, I would recommend you to take your skills else where. His lectures are outdated and boring. He takes forever to input grades. He says that he was going to drop your lowest grade in the course and never did. Be on time or except an unnecessary comment from him in front of the class. He tries to make funny jokes but no one laughs.
Honestly avoid this guy. His grading is ridiculous and the assignments that he gives are beyond annoying. He only has like 8 assignments which sounds awesome, but he hits you with every little thing until the assignment is worth nothing. STEER CLEAR!
Gives very little homework but expects you to cite everything you put down in your essays, even the stuff you learned in his PowerPoint slides. He treats us like we're still in high school, says terrible jokes, and starts going off topic in every lecture. He's passionate about teaching history but does such a terrible job at it, avoid at all costs!
Chicano/a history was my favorite class ever No homework just easy online quizzes every few weeks & a final art project/essay.I recommend taking notes although he does uploads lectures online. The professor's vibrant teaching style, full of energy, sarcasm, and humor, made every class session engaging and lively.Highly recommend!
Time wasting projects, coloring, constructing Aztec deities with paper. Focused mainly on Ancient Mexico, only briefly touches on Central, South and North America. He makes misogynistic and weight related jokes about his ex's. I felt cheated out of learning about the rest of America.
Don't take his class, try your best to avoid if you can. He didn't grade ANY of my assignments throughout the whole semester and then posted my grades once we were done meeting, which made it nearly impossible to ask why I received such harsh grades. Doesn't leave any reasoning as to why you got your grade. Hard to respect him as a teacher.
He is ok, he is hard to take seriously and demands respect but is over the top loud and bangs things. He does have bias in the stuff he teaches and a few things I did need to fact-check about agriculture. He was respectful to me at least. A bit of a harder grader than you would think. For the most part easy, I took Chicano studies. Chill dude tho
Don't do it!Literally the worst teacher I've had so far.His expectations are unrealistic, unclear, and compiled.I spent more time learning his style than the curriculum and his teaching makes learning the subject unenjoyable.Exams are confusing and not straight forward. Not a serious professor in my opinion, doesnt care about student success.
Avoid this professor's class - it's all about art projects and coloring, not actual learning. The grading is ridiculously harsh, and the assignments are a waste of time. Try using unstuckstudy for better study prep instead.
Mr. Estrada is great! He responds to emails quickly and is always willing to help clarify any questions or concerns. The class is straightforward if you read the lectures and watch the videos, you'll do well. One of the best parts is that you don't have to pay for any books, which makes the course affordable and accessible. Highly recommend!
Can have moments where he is a cool but others where he is ridiculous, would often bang on his metal podium if he saw someone not taking notes, extremely tough grader, only allows sources from his syllabus, needed to be fact check. If you need help on an assignment, he would say"its on canvas" and make you feel dumb.Overall worst kind of professor.
One assignment was coloring and recording a presentation of it (you paid to do this). And another one is making authentic cuisine, 3 of them. Nobody has time to do this for a 10 POINT ASSIGNMENT mind you. I find his videos annoying, he makes the same corny jokes about his ex. Plus his voice is annoying/condescending at times, IMO.
I don't withdraw from classes despite difficulties but I withdrew from this one so do with that what you will. Other comments say it all.
Paying to go to school, just for the professor to give an assignment about making a video lecturing him about what I learned. Why would someone want to make a 4 minute video lecturing the professor. He's supposed to be teaching us, the students.
