Whoa! Quite the comedian! Love his sense of humor! EASY ASS TESTS!!! GOT a 96% on first one. He'll keep you awake with all his stories! Too bad he's not teaching after the spring semester... =(
He's a really cool teacher and i like the way he keeps the class going with jokes and stories.
He's hot and funny
He is a comedian/teacher, his class was interesting and very straightforward(the tests were right from the notes).
funny, enthusiastic, love his stories, EASY A.... he doesn't take attndance and he adds all the student even when there's more than half of the students sitting on the floor.
Friendly, clear, helpful, enthusiastic, approachable outside of the class room, involved, funny, wild, young, dedicated. What more could you want from a teacher?
My favorite professor yet!
Fun class, great personality, good class discussions.

He will add everyone. Straight forward; lectures and tests. 100 question scantrons; 98 and 91. Can it get better? PCC needs this guy full time! Ask about the photo of his dog...THE BEST!
very HOT~!!! very funny!! very easy!MUST TAKE HIM!!!!
The best. He is smart, charismatic, cute. He has everything to make his class a real treat. A lot of fun and learning. We need more teachers like him.
What is there to say about Gil. Funny, passionate, and easy.
The best teacher I ever had at PCC!
Hes COOL and easy. TRUST ME, you will pass
The latest and greatest
AWESOME! THE BEST! TAKE HIM!
Wonderful and dynamic lecturer! He's very straightforward about what will be on the test, but doesn't give away any answers. Lots of memorization, flashcards were really useful. Tests come directly from lecture notes or from comprehension of assigned (and interesting) anthropology articles. Ramos obviously likes anthropology and students!
He would try to act funny... when he really was wasting a lot of time saying jokes. I felt his Slide shows where skipped through . He didnt teach step by step and felt lost about all the theories and evolution. It really bugged me not that he couldent give the rite notes and say "Wait ..wrong slide show.." !!I dont recomend him if this is your fir
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS! HES SO EASY IF U HAVE A HARD TIME PASSING THIS CLASS THEN U GOT ISSUES CAUSE ITS IMPOSSIBLE HE MAKES THE CLASS AS EASY AS POSSIBLE HES GREAT!
Honestly the word to describe him is passionate because he spends a lot of class time on motivational talk, which is very helpful. He knows a lot about Anthropology and Human Evolution. He's great. He kept me awake at 8 in the morning.
I think he is the best teacher ever. he made the class really fun and interesting. he does not enforce the whole "attendance is mandatory" policy. but if you miss any one of his classes, you wouldnt be able to fully comprehend his quizzes and exams. he basically gives out the answers for the quizzes and exams. as long as you listen attentively and
Prof. Ramos is a passionate but unorganized professor. His quizzes are simple and if you read the articles so are the exams. He never takes roll, but his powerpoints are not available online, so going to class to get notes is recommended. The notes are sloppy and sometimes he forgets to tell you what you need for which quiz or exam. 25 EC points available if you go to the zoo too.
Prof. Ramos is super easy - he tells you the answers to the quizzes and exams (in order no less) about a week before you take them. You should know that Gil talks fast and some people don't understand him so well, however if you can understand what he says (and take notes) you won't need the text book. I went to class, didn't study, and got an A.
He's rather unorganized, but he's very interesting and he's super fun. I actually enjoyed this class and I learned a lot...just take him and you'll be fine. Study for the quizzes to do fine in the class or else your screwed! and he's not bad one the eyes either! lol
Prof Ramos is very unorganized.Sometimes he forgot our quizzes! He is very passionate about what he's teaching and he is SUPER easy!Although attendance is not mandatory, going to class does help with taking notes because notes are everything for the quizzes and exams. And make sure read the book he requires.I really enjoyed the class. He is awesome!
Humorous, down to earth, awesome man. Able to connect with students. Shares his opinions, which I enjoyed. He didn't have us buy a text book. Lectures with power point. Note taking is crucial. Have a basic understanding of the readings and terms for tests. His high energy kept me alert in the morning. If you're not conservative, you'll love him.
This professor is one of the coolest that I have experienced and he is very genuine. I agree with most of the positive comments. The one person who gave him a sad face is an idiot and that person's head will probably explode when they experience other professors cuz it's obvious they can't handle much. I definitly recommend him.
Great Professor! Very Friendly! The class is totally note based. You should make flash cards of the notes and practice them. There is also an easy extra credit paper. Take notes, read the articles and do the extra credit and you will do fine.
Really great teachers, makes the subject fun.
One of the best professors I've had at PCC. He is very funny and makes every classroom discussion interesting. I'm never bored in his class and all the notes directly relate to the tests and quizzes. He also doesn't make you purchase the book. A man of the people!
He was an amazing teacher he is the one who motivated me to actually keep attending college. He has some awesome stories that all some how relate to his lessons. Attend all classes .. there is so text book. But it is super difficult to fail unless you never show up. I just wanted to be his friend!
Way cool/beyond laid back and easy "prof"! Four quizzes two exams all m/c. Intelligent, funny, opinionated lectures mixed with "pop phycology"! This guy is a fun class and easy B+. Heck I even tossed him a pepper!! MY FIRST!
He's a nice guy with a lot of enthusiasm. However, it's clear cultural anthro isn't his favorite. Goes off on 45 minute to an hour tangents about unrelated topics. No HW. Just notes and 4 quizzes and two exams. Also gives long 'fatherly' lectures. Also A bit insulting by assuming his students aren't intellectually curious.
He is full of energy and likes to joke around, A LOT. (a bit annoying, along w/ his leaders/followers talks). 2 tests and 3 quizzes (ALL MC), plus some EC. Don't slack off tho. No book was needed; it was all powerpoint. He relates the subject of anthro to every day life situations, and he had some interesting stories to tell. Oh and I got an A!
The class isn't rigorous enough if you're serious or need to be serious about anthro. However, if you just need a GE class then this class is an easy A, and Ramos is awesome! He's chill, but also has a ton of energy, and talks a lot about his life, which are interesting and somewhat insightful. Sweet class (remember to put in some effort)!
VERY INTERESTING STORIES OF HIS STUDIES IN CONGO WITH THE BONOBOS
Very energetic professor! Class never got boring and he had a lot of stories to tell. Very clear on whats on the tests. No homework. There was 1 extra credit assignment that was very easy.
Great teacher! Class is never boring filled with stories and is very clear with lecture. One extra credit assignment I enjoyed. Take the class you won't regret it.
He is easy. As long as you pay attention in his class, you don't even have to flip through ur notes. I didn't study because I took 2 classes in summer and yet I got an A. This is because I pay attention well whenever he lectures. Very humble and inspiring guy. He is always willing to help when you need. Very good guy. Love him :)
Great guy! he will really make you think! he wants you to try and really use you head, his entire style of teaching is to get you to broaden your thought process, really cares about teaching and that you learn, this guy is a great professor and will really listen and try and work with you
One of the best professors at school. He always lectures about life lessons and really makes you think about life in general. He constantly Gives public service announcements. The class consists of two multiple choice quizzes(25 questions) and a midterm + final (100 questions each). They are pretty easy just study the notes and make flash cards.
Professor Ramos... this man is really something else. I wish every professor could be just like him. There's no words to describe how awesome he is. If you have the opportunity, take him because you won't regret it. And about his class, study your notes=easy A.
I loved this guy! Great at teaching, because this class is truly his passion. Ont thing is, he talks fast at some points. But it's okay because he uses powerpoints & he will wait for you if you say you aren't done writing your notes down. It's all studying your notes, not much book usage.
I want to like him. He's funny, charismatic, energetic, clear, approachable, and sincere. I know he meant well with his leader-follower lectures, but in the beginning I was disappointed because he side-tracked all the time with his stories that aren't relevant to class. Anyway, his class is an interesting one. Not brutally demanding.
Very passionate about the subject! Even if you are not youll learn alot He doesnt develop preferences or even remember your name(Unless you look like some1 he knows)Therefore, HE IS A FAIR grader! He honestly cares about the success of his students but does not give free passes Do the Work and You'll get a good grade! Be ready to learn about life.
Joke of a class; all you do is sit and copy notes off a powerpoint presentation while he often goes off on unrelated and long-winded tangents. Prof is full of himself and not very helpful when it comes to actual course material. All tests are MC. If you want an A, take this class. If you want to actually learn about cultural anthropology, don't.
He's alright. Shows great passion for the subject, and you learn life lessons. Supposably an ''easy'' A for the class, but I received a B BECAUSE some questions on the Final was not in the lecture.
Prof. Ramos provides life lessons and encouragement to his students, which I appreciate a lot. However, he does not curve grades even 1point (not percentage) so be aware of this so that it will not hurt your GPA.
He is such an amazing teacher. However, he talks a lot but his lectures are very interesting. Consists of power points and notes. Quizzes are based on power point notes, so it is easy.
Brilliant professor, knows his stuff very well, his enthusiasm is catching. Lots of PSAs and he goes on tangents, really makes you think. Easy A - tests are predictable (and he gives 'hints') no reason not to get an A. Doesn't care too much about attendance, loves if you talk to him after class. Best teacher I've had yet! Wish he had more classes
BRILLIANT PROFESSOR!!!!! Take the lab WITH HIM while you're in the regular class, the material is so much easier to understand (especially if you're not into science). His lectures are super engaging and you learn SO MUCH! He encourages students to work on the labs together and they are pretty easy. Tests are the notes VERBATIM and multiple choice.
I love professor Ramos, he is a great person, besides the subject teaches you great lessons and tip about successive life for personal and in general too. He is hilarious I never wanted to miss a class just to not miss the lots of fun and laugh and learn. he is very straight forward about his quizes and 2 exams that are all from his PP notes.
I love professor Ramos, he is a great person, besides the subject teaches you great lessons and tips about successive life for personal and in general too. He is hilarious I never wanted to miss a class just to not miss the lots of fun, laugh and learn. he is very straight forward about his quizes and 2 exams that are all from his PP notes.
It's now Dr. Ramos. There are no words to describe how intelligent and prolific Dr. Ramos is. He has the most captivating lectures out there; however, he goes off tangent a lot and gives out extremely easy tests. This is because he admits that teaching community college is not his passion but teaching upper division classes at universities.
This class is SUPER easy and interesting. There are only 2 quizzes and 2 tests but I strongly recommend you to study the notes if you want that A! He is packed with knowledge and his lectures are very fun to listen to and learn from.
No accredits, no assignments, no study-guide. just midterm and final and two quizzes. good luck! you'll need it!
He is not specific in what he want's. I asked him for extracredit with my friend and he didn't want to help us. I got a B but I really study really hard. Nor an easy class. Expect to study by your own. Even if you go to class it doesn't help.
Overall the class is easy enough. All you have to do is memorize the notes. His tests and quizzes is almost exactly the same as the notes. He does share some interesting information about a variety of different things. However the way he presents certain things might sound offensive in someway. The endless PSAs can get really annoying.
He excels in keeping students engaged and actually makes you stop and think about things, in a good way. He's a funny and nice person with lots of knowledge to share. Exams and quizzes were based on his lectures so attendance is encouraged. Read the articles in a timely manner and study from your notes, and you'll succeed. Take him!!
I had him for Anthro lab DO NOT BUY THE BOOK if you have him for lab. Every test and quiz is based off notes. I wish i had him for lecture he's an amazing professor!
Very passionate & knowledgeable. Easily off topic but his off topic conversations are engaging. He's very up to date with the news and does not seem very bias toward anything. The reading was just for 'information' does not grade heavily on the articles, and tests are based on his lecture notes.
Dr. Ramos is one of my favorite professors. Lectures are interesting and kept them lively. Not a difficult class just study your notes. I loved listening to his stories and would take him again in a heartbeat!
Great professor, cares for his students. Very interesting lectures. Wish I could retake this class, fairly easy & you will miss Prof Gil once the course is over : ) Best I have taken at pcc!
He is awesome, direct and kept me interested in a topic I knew nothing about. His lectures were key, specifically what he has in italics on the powerpoint. The only way you won't like his class is if you're from Ohio or believe in "Making America Great Again" . Attend class with an open mind, because if you can't take a joke join an online class.
class consists of 2 exams, 2 quizzes which means there's really little chance to save your grade. it's a lot of memorization of the notes for the quizzes and exams. you need to buy an expensive text book to read a lot of articles for the exam. I wouldn't recommend this prof to anyone who wants an easy A but he is really nice and funny.
He was awesome!
Although anthropology isn't my intented major, I enjoyed learning about the subject, due to his charismatic and bright attitude. Took his honors class over the Summer, and there were lectures every day. A very humorous man, yet he does like to go off-topic for class discussions (ranges from politics to everyday life). READ & u will do well.
I thought he was great; not crazy difficult, and he's really interesting. Definitely would recommend
Gilbert Ramos is hilarious. He is really outgoing and easy to talk to. Tests all come from your notes. If you memorize your notes you will easily obtain an A in the class because the tests look exactly like the notes. Overall, a super easy A. Highly recommended. You will learn a lot and you will laugh a lot in this class. Take him.
class is one midterm, final, two quizzes and a presentation so points are tight. he doesnt take attendance but you need the notes to pass the class. the book is just a bunch of articles so you can gather online. he is very educated and loves the subject so he makes it interesting, although lectures can be a bit dry
hands down my fav prof at pcc. extremely funny in a way some may view offensive, but if you dont have a stick up your tush, you'll enjoy his savage sense of humor. Majority of tests are off of lecture notes 85-90 questions are straight from his slides, remaining 10-15 from book. 2 tests, no ec, but still easy A if u just study the terms.
Gil is my favorite professor! He is absolutely hilarious and really laid back. His class is super easy too. Two quizzes, two tests, which are straight from his lecture slides, but the tests have around ten questions from the textbook. Even though I took him a while ago, he is still a common topic with me and friends who took him. Take Gil's class!
this is what happens in class. he lectures, and then he starts talking about the most random things ever. he talks about his family. his step-kids and his wife. that class was boring. so please take someone else. theres 2 quizzes (25pts) and two exams (100pts). you also need to buy a $60 book to read cuz there are about 30 questions on each exam.
Professor Ramos is such an excellent guy. Hes very clear and very understandable on what we will be talking about during lecture. There will be notes on every class meet so just be prepared. Quizzes are very easy. they are based of notes so if you miss class make sure to get them from someone. (do not take his class if you get offended quickly)
Professor Ramos is one of the best professors at P.C.C.! He is highly educated with a Master's, J.D., and PhD, but do not let that intimidate you. He is down to earth and gives AMAZING lectures. His slides provide everything you need to ace his quizzes and exams. Take his class. You will not regret it!
Such a great professor! He really knows what he's talking about. The class is based on lectures. He tells you exactly what to write down from the slides to study. Quizzes are word-for-word how its written on his slides. Really funny too! Definitely recommend.
Really cares about his students. Humor is not appreciated by all, and he detours from the lecture a lot to talk about different topics that concern him, but it does make the class a bit more fun if its early in the morning and you never cared for bio anthro.
I could see why people like him but hes just not my kind of professor. You show up, take notes, and then you take the test. If youre the type of student that needs guidance then dont take him. Doesnt give study guides. You literally have to memorize your notes for the tests. Fun personality I guess but he didnt know half of the class names.
Annoying. came in here to learn about Anthropology and ends up yapping about 911, his political views, his personal life, KKK, literally the ENTIRE CLASS! Sprinkles a little of Anthropology here and there and then goes back to yapping about his personal life and stories about other students. If you want to learn about his personal life take him.
Goes off subject alot, barely talks about anthropology. Tests are just memorizing notes. Makes snarky comments about religion.
u will to read pages and pages of boring essays that will be around 25% of ur test but he won't talk about at all in class.
Not the best professor at teaching anthropology if you really want to learn about it. He often goes off topic talking about his own views in religion and politics, which has nothing to do with the class. his power points are also not available to his students online. Take someone else for anthro.
Take quality notes and you should be set. The info you need for tests is clearly outlined in the lecture slices, although you may want to sit in the front couple rows. He analyzes current events and contemporary human behavior at the beginning of every class. I loved this class and stayed interested in the topic the entire semester.
basically, what the majority of the people already said, he goes off topic, talks about his view on religion and politics and his life in Africa. sometimes I don't even know if he is talking about his own experience and view or is he lecturing, sigh.
He talks A LOT. Sometimes about Anthropology, most times its a story that starts off with, "if I had a nickle..." It was charming at first, but now it's laborious to listen to. The labs are easy, he just grades based off whether you did it or not. Although, while it is a lab there is a lot of lecture where all quizes and tests are based off of it.
He teaches from powerpoint only, you absolutely must copy everything to be able to study it at home. He highlights the things that will be on the test, so that makes it somewhat easy. Only take this class if you are good at studying at home and doing your own research. If so, easy A. If not, beware this is not a class to learn, just lecture.
He is an amazing anthropology professor because he is highly educated in this field. I learned so much about this topic from him and I would definitely take him again. He is highly informed due to the research, field work, and all the schooling he has received. This type of teaching experience is rare. Multiple choice quizzes, relate to lecture.
Do yourself a favor and dont get his class Took his for ANTH 1L (1 unit virtual class) Had over 20 lab worksheets assigned PER WEEK 100 questions quizzes We got a minute or less per question Tried reaching him twice about a concerned and he completely ignored me
TOO MANY LAB WORKSHEETS PER WEEK. TOO MUCH. Long quizzes and test and little time. Profesor wont always answer your emails
DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. Meaning 29-35 work pages per week, which take up a minimum of 10 hours to complete. Quizzes/Exams are timed with less than a minute for responses. He's teaching encourages study bulimia. Since you can't get all the information into your long term memory. RIDICULOUS!
The other comments are exaggerating about the labs. YES it is quite a lot of pages, but it doesnt take as long as youd think. I would always wait until the last minute (literally the day of, around 6pm), but Id get it all done in 4ish hours. If you dont wait until the last minute you can finish fast and youll pass. EASY STRAIGHTFORWARD CLASS!
Good class, I learned a lot about the origins of humanity, which is a topic I love to study. I did not expect to enjoy this class, but the professor filled it with interesting content. Tests can be difficult though and are timed, study hard!
He isn't the worst professor, but he definitely isn't the best either. He has long powerpoints that u have to take extensive notes on in order to pass. Difficult exams. Long hours of homework. It's all doable, but he just doesn't care for his students is all. Focus on the powerpoints and you'll pass, but good luck.
The first impression I got from Professor Ramos... "Wow, this guy is eccentric". However, it did not take much time for me to realize that this was a Professor who 1. Truly valued the education of his students 2. Cared about the content and delivery of the lectures he was presenting 3. Knew what he was talking about. I learned a lot. Take notes!
When he lectures, he lectures well. Lots of context, interesting, and teaches in a way that makes the info stick. The other half of class time he spends rambling about politics/personal life/Big Foot believers (he hates them), and it's SUCH A WASTE OF TIME! He does NOT know the meaning of time and place. Knowledgeable guy, but definitely quirky.
Lectures ramble, sure, but he's gregarious, kind, and passionate about animals. Get him talking about bonobos! Despite this, I learned a lot and got a kick out of him. Study his slides, take his quizzes (a little intense, but straight forward if you study & no pop quizzes), and that's it. Always answered my Qs kindly, never made me feel dumb.
Very easy class however get ready to be lectured about how everyone he doesn't like is a Nazi and a biggot and racist. He'll spend half the class giving quality lecture and the other half politically brainwashing his kids, and he himself said he's even to the left of Marx.
Pretty funny, has a good sense of humor. Cares about the well being of his students but has VERY strong opinions. Goes on very long and oftentimes unrelated tangents about topics such as religion. Some of the questions on his quizzes were not on his slides. Expect to take lots of notes. Don't take if you don't plan on majoring in Anthro, too hard.
Man what a great professor! Funny, thought provoking and cares about what he teaches. If I was an anthro major I'd definitely take professor ramos's class again. Thanks for the laughs and good times prof! -K
professor ramos is a very eccentric professor. always went on a lot of long tangents, very talkative, but truly loves anthropology and knows a lot about it. most of your grade is made up of the weekly labs and the quizzes are pretty easy. just be careful to turn in things on time!
Pr.Gilbert is such an amazing Professor has strong opinions who really likes to share his own thoughts combining with education style. You have to remember just to make sure be stay strong at your own thoughts and belief. Otherwise he is cool old dude. Make sure do the lab assignments and check the points on Excel which he submits every week.
Gil was an amazing professor and an amazing speaker. The classes main point system is around quizzes and tests so make sure to take notes and most importantly show up, He is very stern on showing up to class. But besides that the class is an amazing time! Be prepared to talk about anything from nazis to tik tok and taylor swift the list is endless
