Nice guy. Assignments & tests were great. Unfortunately, no one can save prob & stats from being the math department's natural remedy for insomnia.

The midterms were very easy but don't get a lot of time to write it. Final exam was killer. Be prepared for final exam! Very generous marker though!

Pathetically easy professor.Print out cheat sheets on computer; do all problems, get 90+ in the course. His classes are so easy, you don't even think when solving problems...and hence, you learn nothing...just get a high mark. Excellent lecturer though.

SUPER GREAT prof! assignments are very doable and lectures are very easy to follow. just a professor who really knows how to teach (unlike some other old bats who dont wanna retire and get the f*ck outa here)

had him wen he first started teaching n altho his classes are not entertaining he teaches material well good notes. he is also very helpful, even during MT. questions are straightforward n he allows a cheatsheet. Easy to talk u if u want more time, more cheat sheets...MT n final are super easy but u walk away not remembering a single thing :)

Good lectures, makes such good notes in class that you dont really need the textbook, but it helps alot with the assignments. do all the assignments well and get a good mark. Open book exams, but the exams are SO THICK that you dont have time to be flipping through your book.

favourite professor by far this year. He's easily the most straight forward and direct professor for math I've had to date. BRAVO

Interesting lectures (for a statistics course), and the online course notes were great - very clear and easy to understand. Open book exams (def make equations sheets, though, since you won't have time to be flipping through your books!). All exams and midterms are multiple choice, and some of the questions are a bit confusing.

Although it was his first time teaching the intro to Linear Algebra class he did a splendid job. Although the class itself is rather hard, he made everything as clear as he could. He's an generous marker, as well as always available to you for assistance. The only unfortunate part was we ran behind schedule a lot. But over all excellent prof!

Best math teacher I've ever had. Takes his time in class to make sure everything is understood. His notes are almost perfect. He's super nice and very helpful if you have questions. No surprises on exams or assignments. As a bonus to his awesome teaching, the class is almost as easy Calc I.

Excellent prof. Teaches well, always available for extra help, relates math to real life which makes you appreciate the usefulness of this subject. Make sure you go to class AND PAY ATTENTION cuz everything he says is important/helpfull. Do the homework properly and the questions online and an A+ is (almost) garanteed.

Excellent prof! Relaxed atmosphere. He makes the complicated so simple. Always available outside of class to answer questions in (just about) any math topic. Repeats the notions all the time, writes everything on the board. Very polite, very sociable, a real gentleman! Always asked us if we had questions. Easy HWs, harder exams. Listen to Gilles!

It isn't always easy to pay attention in class because it can get boring, but the homework and exams reflect the course material perfectly. He knows what he's talking about and is always willing to answer questions. Fantastic prof!

Notes and expectations are super clear, assignments reflect the exams very well. Probably the most organized prof at UO. He gives you all the opportunities to get an A+; takes 4 of 5 assignments and tests you only on stuff from his notes. His textbook is also worth buying and reading (help you understand stuff better). Great guy, recommended!

Super helpful prof. Conveys material very effectively and is very kind in answering questions he may have already answered earlier just the lecture. He sometimes makes super cute but cheesy jokes. Overall, love the prof and he helped me love a statistics course (who knew that was even possible) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Took Biostats with Gilles, fairly easy class, interesting prof, males learning stats easy. Multiple choice style exams, which sounds easy but fair warning, this is a math class so if you make a mistake in your math you will not get answer right at all, does even look at formula sheet, 5 home works somewhat easy, made to raise grade.

He is always available to answer your questions in person or by email ans his lectures are very interesting! I would highly recommend his class.

Le meilleur prof que j'ai eu à date. Ces notes sont claires et précises mais il faut être au cours pour prendre en note les exemples. Ceux-ci sont très utiles pour les devoirs et vous aiderons énormément pour les examens. Il donne tous aux élèves pour qu'ils réussissent alors profitez-en.

Mr. Lamothe is such a good teacher! His examples are very clear, his notes are very well organized and he always takes the time to answer your questions. The homeworks and exam are very easy, they reflect perfectly the class material, no surprises what so ever. I would definetly recommend this teacher!! :)

Very clear about concepts and expectations, gives organized notes and loves to answer students' questions. Having a part mcq part short answer final was very helpful. Never felt like I was falling behind because of his mini-reviews at the beginning of class and the homeworks.

Made maths very easy! The average on the midterm was about 80%, which says a lot. Always has the time to anwser questions. Also, he does multiple examples in class and they're useful for the homeworks.

Gilles Lamothe is an amazing professor! Material was very dry but he is very clear in his explanations. No surprises on the midterms, they perfectly reflect the material and his practice midterms. Homework is somewhat harder than the tests but he only gives a few. All in all, read the notes, redo his examples and you'll get an A+!

Does multiple examples to really grasp the topic being discussed and does daily recaps of previous lecture before the start of class which is GREATLY appreciated. Don't be shy to e-mail him, he replies very fast. DO the online bank of questions and you're sure to pass with flying colours. Would recommend him for biostatistics!

Cours relativement facile, je le recommande pour un cours au choix en science.

Really, really good teacher! By far my favourite maths teacher. His explanations are clear and he gives useful tips. The only downside is that his exams are too long. I barely finished the midterm and I did not have time to finish the finals. Needless to say, it had an impact on my grade.

I hate maths + I am lazy af BUT I had an A+ !! This prof is WONDERFUL. He had a tremendous standing ovation on our last day of class. Yes, he's that good. His homeworks aren't too easy but his exams are!

Good lecturer, in terms of presenting the material in a clear and precise manner. He provides lots of examples during class along with the underlying concepts and theorems. Exams are fair and reflective of the material presented throughout the course. To succeed attend class, go over the examples show in class, do the assignments and practice!

Very good prof, he's super nice and is always ready to help his students outside of class. There are quite a lot of assignments but they are not worth a lot, considering the amount of work required. He often makes mistakes on his exercises and tests, so beware (he made 2 mistakes on our final exam).

He explains pretty well and will answer all your questions for the homework outside of class. This class is boring but pretty easy. If you write down the examples and do the homework, you'll get a decent mark.

Barely went to class. His midterm was the easiest midterm I've ever done at the University of Ottawa. His final was fairly easy too. The TAs are really picky on assignments but he's super reasonable if you go to his office hours. Would definitely recommend.

To be honest, this is probably the easiest class I've taken up to this point. The midterm class MEDIAN was a 92. I'd imagine it was about the same for the final. The course content is jokes - I went to class maybe 5 times the whole semester and finished with an easy A+. Only downside was TAs who had no idea what they were doing for assignments.

The first midterm was ridiculously easy (I got a 91.67% with only a day's worth of studying), but that set up the expectation that the final would be the same way as well. I, however, found his final to be much more difficult than his midterm. Sit up close to the board and actually do the assignments and you'll be ok. He's a sweet heart

I'm almost certain biostats class with this prof is the easiest course you can take in UOttawa, and I've taken Drugs 101 with Ogilvie. Explains concepts thoroughly, midterms and exam convey material covered in class to full extent, gave a bonus on final to account for mistake he made. He has a soft voice so if you go to class, sit near the front.

One of the best math professor I've had, he really knows his subject and is very nice and caring. The class is very straightforward and he tells you everything that's gonna be on the exams. If you make your cheat sheet yourself it should be an easy A.

Need go to class, do assignment. Almost every assignment will appear in midterm and final. This professor like to use R to solve Mathematical problems, so be prepare to use R .

One of the greatest profs ever! He's a real gem. What I liked most about his teaching style is that he does a small review from the day's past lecture when you start a new lecture. It really drills in the important concepts and refreshes you about things that you may need to look over. His assignments and midterm is quite easy- it's a great class!

Good professor with really clear expectations, the midterm and final were really easy since the questions were practically straight out of the lectures. If you take the time to make good cheat sheets for the exams, it's an easy A.

If you're a science study and not pure/minor math, please don't do not take this class as elective. Lamothe is an amazing person, but the content is not easy for non-math students. I gave him a good rating because he is great, but I had lots of difficulty understanding the material although I have 80 cgpa. Get textbook, got me through the course!

Gilles is a great prof. He is able to explain concepts in a clear concise manner. He begins every lecture with a recap of the previous lecture to reinforce important concepts. Make sure to take notes, you'll need it for assessments. Strong computational skills in R is required to do well. It helps if you know LaTeX and RMarkdown as well.

I took MAT 1373 but there's no option for this... Anyways he is a very good prof. If you are good at computer and math, you should take this class... While I am taking this class my laptop has a lot of problems so I always asked how to fix the problem after class. He always makes me feel comfortable even I couldn't catch the class.

He's one of the best professors of maths at uOttawa! His lectures are very clear, he's always responds to your emails lightning fast, always there for his students and does everything to help you succeed. Even though his TA sucks and the online final exam was pretty hard, he's a real gem and don't hesitate to take a class with him!

Gilles is a great professor. He is always available to answer questions after class, answers emails quickly and cares about his students. One thing that stood out to me was his patience to answer low-level questions. He never was condescending no matter how poor the question. Do the practice problems and you'll be more than fine. Gilles is great!

Gilles is a great professor. Do the suggested exercises, take notes in class, and start studying from the beginning of the semester. It is a big advantage to know how to use R, and R markdown. Gilles answers emails quickly and cares about his students. The course is very relevant and well organized.

He is a very helpful and approachable professor, he is willing to answer student's question and explain things in details even after class. He also provide plenty of examples to help you understand the concept better. This is my first time learning Rmarkdown and I enjoy his class a lot, the things we learnt are super useful!

This class was pretty easy, but the final exam was a killer. I've yet to meet someone in my class whose final went well. The graded homeworks and the midterm were all super easy and my grade was A+ before the final (for which I didn't get my grade back yet). Exams are multiple choice. Prof is a good teacher, I would relatively understand.

The prof always started the class with a review from the previous lecture, it helped to know the important elements and clear up any confusion. Midterm and final are multiple choice, not many questions. He would spend a lot of time answering questions in class instead of during office hours. Homework wording is confusing at times.

In comparison to other math profs, he's a god. He explains very clearly, succinctly and cares about your questions. He reviews previous material at the beginning of each class, and truly makes you understand like no other. Tests are multiple choice and he gives 4 homeworks (they're not too difficult). You can't get any better than him, I recommend.

He is one of the kindest professors I know. He will literally answer every question that you ask him in lectures and will not bash you even if they are dumb. Would 1000% recommend him. He even did a review session with us before the lecture. Take him if you can!!!

Lamothe was genuinely amazing. Great prof, explains things very clearly. Answers emails SO FAST, with clear and helpful responses. His exams are fair, he provides exact topics that will be covered and does not give insane questions. Make sure you do the provided questions, very helpful. Also provides past exams that follow a very similar format.
