Professor Schultz is the best teacher I have ever met in Foothill College. She engages you into class discussions and tries her best to answer the questions of her students. Her grading is fair. You get what you deserve. A very nice biology teacher. Gift from heaven. XD
Had her for lab when i took Duncan's class. She was very nice, always willing to help, explains things well and gives clear directions unlike Duncan.Grades fairly, gives extra credit.Havent taken lec with her but although labs r usualy boring, she tries to make it fun.Good instructor who wants her students to do well.wish she teaches BIO every qtr
I was pleasantly surprised in this class. I was just taking it for a requirement, but Schultz really made the class very interesting. Her grading is very fair. She really engages the students and the class has things that you can use in life. I didn't really use the textbook all that much, just as a reference. Tests were always only on class notes.
She is the best teacher that I ever had. She?s an awesome instructor. She made the most difficult subject easy to be understood and the stuff you learned from her class would benefit your whole life.
This instructor made biology feel like an elective class! Her lectures are not boring like most teachers. This class was deffinetley my favorite general ed. fulfilment class. Take her and you will love the class.
good good good good good good.!!!! =]
Extremely fun class! She's funny and keeps the class interesting and likes talking to students. Grading is extremely fair. If you don't study you won't do well, if you do and take the class seriously its a breeze. Fun Fun Fun class! Take her!
She makes class very interesting, she's not boring at all, funny, GREAT notes on board (which is how I learn), helpful, fair to everyone, knows the subject very well. YOU HAVE TO REALLY PAY ATTENTION, READ BOOK, AND STUDY STUDY THOUGH! Test are very detailed, & long!! GO TO LAB, counts for alot of points! take it seriously n you pass!
Everything a teacher should be: clear, knowledgeable, more than willing to help, encouraging, fair. Added bonus: fun, engaging, understanding, and kind. 'Nuff said.
overall very nice and easy to follow during lecture. if you go to lectures, labs, and kinda read the book you'll be fine. she has study guides for her exams so just make sure you understand the questions on the study guide and you should do good on the exams.
One of the best Biology teacher i had ever met!!Extremely helpful. The lectures are really interseting. If you pay attention in the lecture and take good notes you will definately do well. Grades fairly good. Even if you don't do well in exams you can pull up your grade by doing good on the rest of the assignment which are easy points!!
This was my favorite class at foothill! I just took the class for fun but she really made me interested in bio, shes amazing! she very nice, easy to talk to, and very clear. I never wanted to skip class bc of the fun facts that we learned everyday. She is really interested in what she is teaching which is what counts. I HIGHHHHLY recommend her.
The easiest bio class I've ever taken. Hardly read the book. Did a lot of online submissions for homework so it was kind of a hybrid class. Tests were multiple choice, short answer, and short essay. 3 exams with the lowest dropped (1 is a take-home), final Qs pulled from prev 3 exams. Presentation was short and easy depending on your topic.
GOOD memory technique is required to do good on tests. Extra credit is also available.
One of the most interesting bio labs I've ever taken. Most of the labs were field trips which were surprisingly fun: hiking, animal/plant ID's, waste water plant, org farm. We actually learned things that were useful. Field journals, some inclass labs, 1 final project, no exams. All bio labs should be like this.
Prof. Schultz is by far my favorite Bio teacher that I've had. Her teaching style keeps me attentive in lectures and she is really proactive during labs. Bio classes are in general hard so I recommend keeping up with the reading. I failed to do that and basically crammed before each midterm and I am probably going to get a C, and if I'm lucky a B.
Interesting classes. If you show up and do the work you will do well on the work. The tests were a little more difficult. The reviews she suggested didn't match the quizzes. One of the tests was a take home and the final was a cumulative from all the quizzes, just study old tests. The labs were fun. Half of them were field trips.
This class was fun. It is a Saturday class, and most of the classes were field trips. This class has no exams, just one presentation and 2 papers. If you need a general ed class, like nature and hiking, and don't mind giving up most of your Saturday, I highly recommend this class! Gillian is great, she's easy to talk to and knows her stuff.
Awesome teacher. Very organized and clear during lectures. She was also easy to contact. Her genuine passion for the subject came through in the lectures, which helped motivate me through the class. The field trip labs were also very enjoyable.
Easy, fun, interesting. What more can you want?
Very clear in what she expects. Her notes are on point and direct. If you study and know all the material then you will do fine! Bio 14 is an intense class but I learned a lot and would take Dr. Shultz again if I had the opportunity.
Doctor Schultz notifies you from day one that the class will require work and it is true. She is very clear in expectations as well as material. The tests are mult choice and short answer. I am not a good test taker especially in a subject like Bio, but I did decent I got a B, C and C- I believe. Overall I got a B in the class.
She's an AMAZING teacher! She's very funny and entertaining so it kept the class paying attention. You don't have to read the book unless something she explains is unclear. The topics she goes over are interesting and relevant to stuff going on now. Don't be late for class or she will mark you down. Definitely recommend taking her class!!!
Dr Schiltz is so great. She's clear, helpful, and knowledgeable. She really walks the walk for environmental biology, which means she knows alot more about the subject than the book. This class was the highlight of last quarter!
Her lectures are very clear for bio1c. However, lab is a different thing; she does not do a lab lecture at all. She leaves you to do your thing and go through the lab handouts on your own. What I don't like about her class is that the exam reviews she posts aren't very helpful. If you're studying the ch review, you can expect a c.
Very nice lady. On a personal level I think she is a great person. As a teacher I would have to say that she gets low scores. She tends to always make things more difficult then necessary.
California Ecology and Natural History is a pretty fun class! Most of it is field trips! You end up going to places like Monte Bello, Big Basin, Ano Nuevo, Moss Landing, and whale watching! WARNING: If you don't like hiking, ~3-5 miles, then you will not enjoy this class! A presentation and two papers, 2 pages each, are also required.
Great teacher! Her lectures are very clear and helpful for the exams. Her final is not cumulative so it will be like a third lecture exam. It would really help if you study from the first day of class. Besides exams, all the other points in class are pretty easy to get.
Very nice teacher. In order to pass her class, you need to work hard, go to her classes and pay attention. She is very helpful. Never say no to anything. Best teacher I ever had. Her class isn't for those people who think its an easy grade. If she's going to bio 40A 40B 40C, I will definitely take her.
Show up to class and take good notes. Dr. Schultz doesn't test what isn't in her notes. Super knowledgeable and very organized. Very approachable and wants her students to understand the material.
Great professor! I recommend taking the lab - it mostly consisted of lots of field trips, journal entries, a few in class labs, and a final project.
Dr. Schultz is amazing! She's a super enthusiastic and knowledgeable professor who's also funny and super cool to talk to. She only tests you on things she covers in class and her exam reviews help when studying for tests! She's a super fair grader and her class has tired me out but the results have been more than rewarding. Thanks Dr. Schultz! :)
I agree with about 99% of her off topic lectures. However, her off topic lectures are not on our exams. By our midterms the class was WAY behind. She also sends out sunday night mass emails changing monday labs. Meaning I have to rush to kinkos to print them out before class. Over all worst teacher I've had. Nice lady though, just bad teacher.
Doesn't cover all material on tests. Replies "look it up" and "you won't need to know that for this class" a lot. Very annoying if you need to know that either in this class or in the next class that this is a pre req for. She's taking a class on teaching reading and uses us as test subjects. Annoying since she is already behind the syllabus.
Great at lecture, and if you sit in the front you won't get bored and she'll like you! Try to participate, she'll love you. Some tedious assignments, like 12hrs of volunteering but otherwise do all online quizzes and online textbook work and you'll get an A. She is very easy lab grader too. Also NEVER PLAGIARIZE she always knows! Hates tardy ppl.
I took Dr. Schultz during Summer 2014. Honestly, it was one of the most stressful quarters in my college career! While the workload was very intense (esp. for Summer), she does provide plenty of opportunities to increase your grade. So it shouldn't be too difficult to do well in the class. Plus, she's super chill and just a joy to talk too.
This class has as much work as a 5 unit class. The text is mandatory as she often runs out of time to get really in depth on certain topics due to straying lectures. She's passionate about the environment so we often talk about things that aren't in the textassignment. She's self described facetious; she's dry, but that's part of her charm.
Good Professor, tends to go over the material briefly, so expect to read the book and understand the material well. I would recommend her if you are ready to work hard. Do not simply study her reviews, you will get a C!
Took this class in the Fall of 2014. Learn to short hand everything she says, unless she specifies not to. It will come in handy! She is fast paced so be ready to make your point should you ask for help. Also, show up and show up on time. Dr Schultz' lectures were amongst my favorites at FH College and she really changed my life. Take this class!
Took her class over the summer and I was intimidated at first because there is a lot of work. But Schultz gives great lectures and her labs are really interesting and hands on. There's also field trips that are informative and fun. She's easy to talk to and is super helpful when answering questions. Highly recommend
Prof. Schultz is engaging & cares about her students understanding of the material. As a science professor her teaching mechanisms are more interactive than most but nonetheless they are helpful for learning. She is a cool individual and is very approachable she could care less about the memorization of concepts but focuses more on HOW things work
Lecture based with included activities. Wonderful speaker. Very organized. Makes class fun. Very inspirational. Gives all kinds of study tools. Fair grader. Let's you eat in class. Don't be late.
She is a very sweet professor, gives amazing lectures will make jokes and will give a great examples during her lectures. Her homework is super easy and all the online quizzes is easy as well, she also gave late coupons so if you forgot to turn in a homework you can use it and turn it in the next day.
To get a solid A just do everything and give yourself time. The content is easy and superficial so don't worry about this being a hard bio class. Just do the work and study for the final ( she takes most of the questions straight off the online quizzes which thensleves are pretty easy). We also never used the textbook so save yourself the 80 bucks
I highly recommend this professor. Yes attendance and tardiness is crucial because she does not like class to be interrupted while lecturing. Honestly I had a horrible science class experience prior and Dr. Schultz gave me a whole new perspective and engages her students. Absolutely love her!!!
LOVE Gillian!!!
Schultz is awesome, super cool and hilarious. Midterms are harder than you would think: first part standard MC Bio book stuff, MAJORITY of POINTS Free response portion with tie in from lab, one of those exams where most ppl don't finish on time. Don't mess around and stay focused in lab, or you'll pay for it later. Learned a lot.
Gillian is THE most amazing teacher I have ever had. She is so knowledgeable about her subject and is so passionate about biology she borders on nerdy. I've never had a teacher who cared so much about her students and was so willing to help out. She was even willing to offer some college counseling advice when we needed it. 10/10 would recommend!!
Foothill is lucky because Gillian could be teaching at a MUCH more prestigious university. She's whip-smart, acerbically witty, and astoundingly knowledgeable. If she can't answer your question, she cares enough to research it and get back to you. Her instructional materials are thoughtfully designed and effective.
You can tell she's passionate about her work. She's more into you knowing the material and what we can do as people to be better rather than memorizing a bunch of stuff. I took her for Env. Bio. If you need science credit, TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
no respect. gave an online final for which all answers could be found on quizlet
The absolute best professor you will ever have. If you're thinking about taking this class, TAKE GILLIAN. She is an absolute gem. The labs are super fun. She does a great job of explaining the material and making it fun and interactive at the same time. The class is easy IF you come to all the lectures! She does an amazing job of explaining!
She relates the lecture materials to daily life which is pretty cool. Interactive lecture and never gets bored. Discloses exam questions so you can prepare for it ahead of time. Easy A as long as you submit all the online assignments on time and show up in the exam.
Gillian is incredible. She is outrageously smart and knowledgable about all things bio, and will have you laughing your way home at the end of the day if you pick up on her dry humor. I will definitely miss hanging with Gillian once I leave Foothill, she is just the best.
She assigns far too much work. At some point you will be BSing your way through her assignments. Most of it really is unnecessary. She can be irritable depending on the day.
Topics in this class are important. However this professor can be hard to get along with. If she doesn't like you for some personal reason she makes it clear - an awkward and frustrating situation. It is difficult to come to her for help. Her responses are generally terse and disinterested. The labs should be more hands on and the lectures less so
Too much homework that isn't very productive in learning the material. Slightly abrasive personality that can make asking questions difficult. Also a bit disorganized, which is exacerbated by the amount of work she assigns and grades. Ingratiate yourself with her and participate in class and you won't have a bad time; you'll learn a lot.
Be prepared for lots of discussions and reading (would NOT suggest procrastinating). Labs are intensive, and it helps to work in groups as well as going into office hours. Lectures are content-heavy but Gillian makes them interesting. Taking her class will make you more conscientious of the current state of our environment.
Poorly written tests. She played around with the wording of her questions in attempt to make them tricky. However, the wording of some of these questions was ambiguous and/or just made little sense.
She was very helpful. One time I didnt understand some material in the class, and she spent an extra hour teaching me until I understood. She truly cares about students, and even though I didnt have any issues, she said if I ever had a medical issue, she would be there for me.
You have to work to get an A in this class. Test and writing heavy, projects heavy. Participation in class matters a lot but most of the time you get put into groups so it's not that bad. I also took her BIO09 lab, and I love it! Had a great time. This class made me fell in love with environmental studies.
I love Gillian to the ends of the Earth. She is funny and kind. She cares deeply for her students and will constantly go off on tangents about life in general. She constantly emphasizes how grades don't matter in the long run and it's our understanding that matters. She also really makes sure we work in groups and talks about how important it is
good lecturer. provides a lot of resources that are helpful with quizzes. not test heavy. quizzes (basically exams) are untimed and open resources. 1 group project at the end of the course which is collecting specimens. lots of activities that are better if you can work with a group/freinds since by yourself its a bit of a heavy workload.
I feel like overall she's pretty good when it comes to teaching. Like, if you ask her about a topic you don't understand, she'll make sure to go over it until you do. The cons are that she did discuss some topics, that I felt weren't necessary to say in class. I felt like she wasn't as respectful as I expected.
She's really nice. No tests. Open note online quizzes. She has class set up so you learn by doing. Pretty hard to "cheat" because a lot of lab is hands on, observations and such. She seems mean at first lol. if you want to learn AND want a good grade, this is the best BIO prof available @ Foothill. Understands the struggles of students, and helps.
Prof. Schultz is deeply passionate about 1C's subject matter and it really shows in her lectures + encyclopedic knowledge. Some students might take issue with how she treats them like adults preparing to transfer to 4 yrs, but she is plenty approachable, funny, and understanding. If you're curious about the natural world you'll love her 1C class.
My favorite teacher, I have had at Foothill College by far! Easy grader, very nice, and is one of those Professors that you can tell actually cares.
Took this class over the summer! She does "mandatory" field trips, and to get credit for it, attendance is needed. Overall easy A as long as you come to class and lab to do your work. Didn't really turn in stuff for the lab as long as you were present. All of the exams were open book at home so make sure you take good notes.
Make sure you go to fieldtrips it will help your grade! Attendance is really important. Weekly online quizzes,no midterm,1 final exam. Stay on top of your work and you'll be totally fine! She literally gave us the final to work on at home before actually taking it!! Gives you 8.5x11 paper to write all your notes for final. Super funny & passionate!
There are weekly discussions, lab exit tickets, some other assignments thrown in, no quizzes/tests, and the final is a poster project. The lab packets are long, not required for credit, only lab exit tickets are required for credit, this professor is nice, understanding, and caring. I did learn a lot and would take this class all over again!
Super nice and is very reasonable. Not too many hard assignments and no tests. Makes you want to attend and learn without the pressure of getting a good grade because of tests!
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Schultz is very understanding and she tries her best to make sure that she is fair. There are a lot of assignments but as long as you complete them and meet all the requirements you will get full credit. If you are willing to put in the effort then this class is an easy A.
Great prof! Absolutely loved Gillian, she made lectures very interesting. May be irritated some days but overall very funny lol. Weekly online reading & online discussion post. It's almost impossible to fail, just do the work and show up you will pass. The lab work may seem like a lot but as long as you try your best & ask for help you will pass:)
She is a great professor and is really funny there is just weekly check in (unlimited trys) and discussions, a farmers market visit and treasure hunt, reflections, etc. There are no tests so you just have to worry about the assignments and make sure to ask her for help if you need it because she is very helpful take her to get rid of GE requirement
She assigned too many writing assignments, which felt excessive and time-consuming. They didn't contribute much to my learning and seemed more like busy work. If you're looking for a teacher who balances writing with quizzes and other assessments, I'd recommend choosing someone else.
One of the easier online courses I've taken. A lot of hw every week, but it really should only take you a full day to do it all. Lots of reading assignments tho so be prepared for that. Class is extremely eye opening. Highly recommend taking her class!
She is really the best Biology teacher in foothill she is very accommodating and allows revisions in her assignments basically her class is 2-3 assignments typically check in's discussions and a reflection a week and 1 lecture check in's are unlimited trys and the best part of all is that there are no tests or quizzes and I learned so much too!
It's the only class I don't get bored in. She's super funny, lectures are interesting and she knows how to keep us engaged. I took a hybrid class, NO TESTS AT ALL, just a lot of discussion posts. Easy A+ if you do the work. She's really kind, caring and nice to everyone. I honestly loved this class sooo much!!! I wish more classes were like this.
Gillian is great and extremely engaging. She knows what she is talking about and her lectures are structured in a way that even the most difficult concepts are easy to grasp. highly reccomend.
Quite good! Gives reasonable amounts of work that isn't too easy, but too hard. She wants you to learn and the class itself (online) was quite enjoyable. Definitely will take her again. ;)
the best BIO teacher i've ever had!!!! i enjoyed learning bio because of her way of conducting the class and her field trips!!! no written major exams but there are discussion posts and quizzes for every chapters (and their subchapters). would've taken her ecology class too if i had the time this quarter.
Gillian was amazing by her simplistic explanations. Simply coming to class and participating, and turning in assignments on time would guarantee you a passing grade. Her lectures would be interesting and would explain content well. Although her quizzes are slightly difficult, a bit of review and studying would allow youi top ace them fairly easily.
Extremely confusing, inconsistent, and unhelpful. She does not care that her students know the material or are trying hard in her class. Instead, she grades her students using her incomprehensible grading system when grading for short answers. AVOID HER!!!!!
Lots of assignments for this summer course. A decent course, just a ton of material. Some of the assignments are extremely tough, but they're all open note like always, not for exams.
fun prof. truly shows what a prof is supposed to be (fav line: "ITS OK NOT TO KNOW SOMETHING") she's super chill and has great lectures. both lab and lec is important in passing her class. discussion based hw (3-6pg reading/annotating). NO EXAMS/QUIZZES!!!
Professor Schultz is an amazing bio professor with an amazing story. You will learn more than just Human Biology from her class. I am very glad that I took her class and will remember so many things that she has mentioned. She is the kind of professor that is rare and impacts your life and your mindset well beyond the end of the quarter.
Great teacher! I took lab and lecture, she was great for both. Lecture portion is just sitting in class doing easy worksheets once in a while! I learned a lot from her. And some online work every week, not hard if you make time for it, just a reflection of what we had been learning. Also simple final, just a reflection. Defiantly take her!!!! :)
Love her, class is super interesting. Occasionally heavy on lectures but I've never met a professor who demonstrates so much care for her students! She's always willing to work with you and beyond being a teacher, seems like such a good person. Her class was so so ace-able if you get your stuff done. 10/10 prof!
Extremely passionate about teaching and inspiring others.
Amazing prof even for GE, super caring, easy grader and doesn't give you a hard time over issues like slightly late assignments or being late to class. Actually cares about her students and remembers their interests and questions, helps out when she can
