She is the worst teacher ever! I quoted a line from our textbook and she told me that I was wrong. If you are not a greenpeace bleeding heart liberal- DO NOT TAKE HER! Her grading is insane. She does not care about the students
I don't know why people have trouble with her class. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests and quizs. You just have to look over your notes. She is very nice. And if you participate in class you don't get any homework.
I feel weird about that class. I have no problem with her teaching, but she accused me of plagiarizing and ended getting a D. I guess it could be worst, but it just wasn't right, since I wrote it the night before with no resource.
I honestly don't know what ppl are complaining about. De Paola has a strong interest in student involvement and wanting to help. But few students in my class took her up on it. The material was easy enough and if you love to write, you'll get that A.
She is the worst teacher ever! DO NOT TAKE HER! Her grading is insane.
very unenthusiastic
She's not easy, but if you particpate then you'll be ok. Tests and quizes are not very hard but the writing part requires a lot of your knowledge from the class. if you don't participate in class, the jornal really kills you
DONT TAKE HER!!!!!!!! she was not clear and graded papers unfairly. Even though the tests were not that hard and i got good grades on them, she failed me and accused me of plagarizing aswell.NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL!!!!!!
I really liked how she doesn't shove her opinions down students throats. She goes over all the sides of issues and then lets you make up your own mind. She really incourages participation. She's very clear on what's on quizzes and tests.
Gives lecture outlines. Has quizes but tells you exactly what to study. Has two midterms with essays but gives out the essay questions in advances. Gives out final essay question too. Lets students talk and participate.

QUIZ IS HARD AND FEW EXTRA CREDIT FOR STUDENTS
Class is not easy. Shes a mean grader. Lots of videos and group participation. You either orally participate in class everyday, or keep a journal. Take someone else.
Hated it. Pretty basic lectures. Boring topics. Unenthusiastic. Needs to be more interesting or motivate students more. Nice person and means well, but I was never sure what she wanted in her assignments. Seems to contradict herself. Very confusing. Hated this course, probably my least favorite
i didn't purchase a book for this class and i was still able to pass with an A. Just pay attention to lectures and participate. Hands out very comprehensive outlines, tells you what to expect on quizzes and tests, hands out essay questions beforehand and lets you bring an outline. Helpful and nice.
Alright, the class is very easy, she tells you whats going to be on the test so all you have to do is study those topics. The mid term and final are a little tougher. The thing that got me was her participation, shes not very consistent, sometimes she gives you points some times she doesnt!?!?!!?
This prof lets students participate; too many profs like to hear their own voices. Gives outlines of her lectures, has thorough reviews, and hands out midterm/final essays in advance. Serious college students will ace this class and appreciate this prof for the nice lady she is.
I took this class online. She is super easy in her online classes and very laidback. She makes an honest effort to help you get a good grade and there should be no problem getting an A in this course online.
She insists too much on participation, walking around with a pad to note whether or not you participated for the day. This makes students give redundant comments and stumble over themselves for her attention. Not my idea of fun for a college class. Felt like I was in H.S! Seek out another teacher!
Had her for Jour 2 online and didn't have a problem. Requirements are responsible--two short posts, a long essay, a midterm, & final. She'll read your essay & mark it up if you ask. I did that & got an A. Posts are way easy, but still worth 100 points. Got a B overall in the class.
Depaola is a totally nice teacher. She wants the students to understand and do well. She's kind of picky and a hard grader, but you'll do fine when you get used to her. Her quizzes and tests are easy. She tells you exactly what will be on them and prepares you really well for them. No homework. Take her if you like discussions and subjects like pol
Had some problems early be she helped me work through them. Lots of handouts but note taking required too. Good tests and encouraged students to take part in class. It's college people!
Her quizes are eazy, but everything else is hard. for midterms and fina, you have to include every single thing she taled about. In the journals, you have to talk about "your oppinion" and she is a very hard grader.
very good teacher- easy class
Ms. DePaola is the worst professor I've taken at Mt. Sac. I passed all of my classes with a "C" or better and she's the only one that gave me trouble. She's strict, boring, difficult, gives no extra credit, and bases her class on percent not points. You don't know how many points you got to earn. She did not even talk about my bad grade at all.
this was the worst teacher I ever had. She made me feel like i was stupid. She told me the third day of class that I was going to fail. She never even gave me a chance. Trust me you'll regret taking.
plays favorites. I did all my work and got c's on all my assignments and tests and then she failed me. I don't understand how that is mathematically possible so just don't take her.
This is garbage. I never spoke in Jour 1A. The only class I have is Speech 1A because I had to. I got an A in Jour. I went to class and wrote all the stories. People this is college, not high school. Some people don't like DePaola because she doesn't give away grades, but she's always available and will look at your story drafts.
Doesn't teach class correctly. Horrible. Avoid. If your going to do Journalism at Mt. SAC, avoid it if your enrolling in De Paola's class.
horrible teacher!!!!!!!!!! Stay away from her!!!!!!!!!!!
She may seem hard at first, but if you use her office hours, there's really very little excuse to not get at least a "B" in her class. Always willing to help. Very articulate abou expectations. Was a reporter for a decade so she does really know how to teach the class. Wish she advised the paper. Gina's great. Grow up people!
Gives lecture outlines, but some note taking still needed. Tells you as she lectures if the topic is going to be an essay on the midterm, so just take down everything she says. Very clear about what's on quizes and tests. Available to help. Great prof for those of us who are in college to learn and not be handed grades.
She does play favorites, almost impossible to get an A on papers..she would give me corrections on an essay and then the next week say that the way I had it previously was Ok...no matter how well the entire class did we all ended up with C's,Boring, she tells you what to know on the exam & shes pretty unbiased.
she is awesome. not so hard, all you have to do is attempt and you will get through the class. realistic and easy class.
this is a great teacher...the class is a college level course for those of you who like to be spoonfed answers i would suggest another prof. She spends plenty of time clearifying and answering questions. She tells you what will be on the quiz and she drops 2 quiz grades anyway. She really cares about her students and is very understanding.
i dreaded always coming to this class. she bores me. i hated the journal. i spoke up in class. midterms were easy. you just need to study a lot and speak up!!!
Hard teacher very boring class she makes you write journals if you dont speak and you dont pass the class if you dont write the journals or dont speak do not take this teacher.
I liked this class. She is helpful, and the class itself is not difficult. As long as you have an interest in journalism, and don't mind doing interviews on campus, it's a lot of fun. Just for Godsakes, pay attention to the news!!!!
Great prof for jour majors. Very clear. Really knows the field. Doesn't play favorites despite what some say. Also is good poly sci prof. Very opinion to hearing student's opinions in poly sci. The journal, people, is alot easier than a research paper. Very fair.
Not such a great teacher. She does have a bias that I don't share, and she's very picky about her rules. One good thing though is that she tells you exactly what is on the test, and allows hardworkers some extra breaks.
HORRILBE. i will no longer major in journalism because of her!!!! she doesn't help you when you ask questions and expects you to know everything before she teaches it. isn't that HER job? and she plays stupid movies that are a waste of time. DON'T take this class.
She is like a frustrated high school teacher. she is strict and her handwriting can barely be understood. HOWEVER she is an easy A, she will give you an outline for every chapter, there's group work and the tests are mostly multiple choice... I got a B just reviewing about an hour before a test.

Had for jour and for poly sc. Great prof who offers all sides of poly sci and not her views. Works so hard to get students involved in discussions, but the students are just so lame in this G Ed class. Caused me to think seriously about being a journ major. Highly recommend. Has really neat penship--like that matters. Grow up people!
Tough teacher. Not very clear on what she expected other than on news quizzes. Doesn't have sympathy for students with hardships. Expects students to meet her every expectation and if you don't well then your in trouble. This is the first class I took for my major and she almost made me rethink what I wanted to do for a career.
Had for beg news writing, mass media and govt. Really clear in all classes. Great govt test reviews. Reads drafts and allows rewrites in 101, but hardly anyone took advantage of that. Really caring prof, but some students don't like her because she doesn't give away grades. Good preparation for those of us going onto a four year college and seri
Her Lecture notes jump all over the chapters she covers. She expects everyone to read the whole chapter and participation is a must or the class will get a pop quiz.
In all honesty, she is very clear in what she's asking for. She expects a lot, but she's gives A LOT of help and A LOT of commentary if you ask for it. As long as you show interest and do the homework and articles, you'll be fine. She appreciates hard work and effort. Don't be scared. She knows what she's teaching.
Great, helpful outlines, but some notetaking still necessary. Very clear about whats on tests.
She's actually very clear and very helpful. Her test reviews are clear--there's nothing unexpected on the tests. Even gives out the exam essay questions a head of time. Just pay attention and do the work--things will be fine.
Easy class on assignments, but exams were surprisingly hard. I'm an A student and got a C on the first exam. However she does help you alot. It's just annoying that the class attendance is mandatory and she marks you off if you miss too many or if you're late. About 2 briefs, 2 stories, 2 exams. Barely used text but need AP style book
She has the wrong attitude toward helping students. Everyone is different but she expects everyone to act the same.
Her Jour 107 about the media and race is awesome. You'll never look at another movie the same way again. She gives alot of help and is really interested in what students have to say. Fun projects. Clear about expectations. Totally enjoyed class which fulfilled a GE.
She is helpful but boring. She seems hard at mean in the beginning but she is actually pretty easy.
She's an awesome professor! She made me actually like and understand Political science. Shes very nice. Winter session...1 quiz a week(easy), 1 midterm, 1 final. Great lecture and gives you study guides for quizzes and tests! Loved her!!!!!!
She has her good days, but she definitely has her bad as well. Textbook is a must, coming to class is a must in order to do well, dont worry her lectures are interesting, she is very helpful, wants to make sure everyone is aware of their grades. If you plan on using your cellphone in class, plan on getting kicked out! There is a quiz every week
Clear. Always helpful. Easy to approach. Breaks down writing into really easy steps. Have Gina read your stuff before u turn work in for a grade. She'll tell u how to fix what u did wrong so u can get a better grade. Like the class alot. Good prof. Very supportive. Nice lady.
Dont believe post about Mrs. D telling students to not go into jour. My english is bad and shes been alot of help. Lets u rewrite almost all ur work. Will read ur stuff before u turn it in. She had a month where we could turn in late work because she was worried about our grades. U get the grade u deserve in this lass.
Honestly she is a bad teacher! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!
I dropped pretty early in the semester. She was very quick to let us know her political persuasion: she says she's independent, but simply put, she's a liberal. When she asked my opinion about a current event & it wasn't to her liking she instantly gave me an attitude & later said I hadn't participated, which she said was a must for every meeting.
I honestly think this teacher is a great teacher. I don't see too much of a reason why these comments below say she is bad. Her quizzes and tests are easy, she TELLS you what is on the test/quiz and what to study. The only HW is to read ch. She's veryyy nice. The only thing I didn't like is her policy on participation, but that's not too bad.
You DO have to read the book and go over notes, but other than that the class was great. She is always willing to help you in any way possible (i.e. she'll read your essays before you turn them in, let you turn in things late if needed) You will be either be discussing a lot or writing a journal... participate in my opinion! :)
Ppl, participation is easy credit and she's really open and interested in what students have to say. Very clear about whats on tests and very clear about all assignments. Took her Jour 107--awesome class about the mass media and racism. She really was a profesional journalist and has some incredible stories about being a reporter.
Awesome, interesting class. You study how the media engages in racism. Not hard. Pay attention, read the material, and have an open mind. The book is free. You'll never look at the mass media the same. Nice professor---really, really helpful.
I did not like her, she was very rude and was unprofessional all semester. Unorganized, did not grade fairly in my opinion, and was not easy to talk to about work. She yelled at a few students in class, I did not like that, I didn't pay to view her emotional outburst. I recommend another professor if you are interested in learning the topic.
That comment about Gina yelling at students is so fake! I have had for two classes. She's patient & more then willing to help students anyway she can. She's not a push over when it comes to grading, but she's fair. She's a nice lady & tries to make class interesting.
I was in beg. jour this Sp 2010 so I can honestly say that the post about Gina yelling at someone never happened. That's just someone unhappy about their grade. She's not the easiest teacher but she's certainly not the hardest. She's one of the most helpful profs I've had--in and outside of class. Posts all lecture notes. Very clear.
Smart and helpful teacher. Anyone that speaks negatively of her probably was lazy and didn't take the class seriously. Gives the option to write journals for participation and she's not very picky about them, but if you struggle in English I wouldn't recommend her. Went to class and studied. Got an A.
took the summer.it was a condensed class-but she took the time to be very helpful, make printouts for the first2chapters(to give you time to buy the book),and provide lecture notes online. she's considerate-so your grade depends on YOUR time invested.4 quizzes,1 midterm,1 final.drops lowest quiz.Participation can be verbal or written-great class
Incredibly helpful. Gives study guides, post notes, is really clear on tests, and is always available to talk to students. Tries to make class interesting. Always opens up class for student comments. Verrrrry nice! Not a single complaint here.
Really is helpful. Had her over summer. There was a problem w/the book at the campus store so she got the first three chapters copied for us--alot of profs wouldn't have done that. Very clear in her expectations, lectures and what to study for quizzes/exams. College-level prof, but, again, very helpful and seems really nice. I'd take her again.
Hey, if you study, she's great. There's nothing unreasonable about her or the class. She tells you exactly what's on quizzes and tests. She posts all her lecture notes, I bring in my flash drive and she's totally cool about letting me copy her power points to it. Nice, smart, helpful.
Great teacher. take her
SHE IS GREAT!!! Read the book and participate in class. She tells you exactly what's on quizzes and tests. She posts all her lecture notes. No homework.
Great teacher. We didn't use a book; she gave us printouts that made up our "text." She gives study guides for her quizzes & exams. Discussion in class earns you participation points and favorable status; if you don't participate, you must write monthly journal entries. Would recommend!
Professor Depaola is a great teacher! Had her class for the summer. Lots of material, but all of it is really straight forward(especially since its interesting). You get study guides for the tests(very helpful). Make sure to read and participate.
Never thought I'd do well in this class & got an A. She tells you in detail what will be on the quizzes and tests. If you study thoroughly you will do well. Make sure to participate in class cus writing the weekly journals are a pain, she makes it easy to get your participation points. STUDY!
Take the class if you have a general interest in politics and/or a willingness to learn about the subject otherwise you're wasting your time. She's neither easy nor hard but clear about the material. READ THE BOOK and PARTICIPATE IN CLASS and you'll pass. She teaches directly out of the book. Very helpful instructor, will try to work with you.
Is probably one of the clearest and most helpful teachers on campus. If you take the class seriously, you'll be okay. You get what you put into this class. She's fair and tells you exactly what to study.
This class is easy. Read, pay attention, take notes, and youll be fine. However, Gina is probably the most condescending teacher I have ever encountered. Idk if she just thinks less of our class, but she embodies the word haughty. Not the coolest material but easy. She can be lenient and helpful as well. Shes nice when not berating you.
You do have to come to class and study, but she's really very fair and more than willing to help you if you put in the effort. She's structured in her teaching--not random and disorganized like someone else. She gives out study guides, posts lecture notes, and will read your work before its due to help you get a higher grade.
She's very............ UNBIASED. I took this class because it was transferable, but my God it opened my eyes to a lot of different things in the media. She does a great job explaining what those things are. Just do your work and pay attention during lecure and you'll be fine. Most of the exams comes straight from there. There is 1 presentation too.
10 minutes? Oh, come on. The professor is passionate and honest about the mass media. The course deals with alot of touchy subjects like race, but the professor did an amazing and engaging job with the materials. You do have to read and study. The quizzes and exams aren't easy, but the study guides are straight forward.
If you want to get ahead, enroll in the right class! She told us on day one that 100 is a class about media law, ethics, economics, and history and NOT social media. LOL! 100 isn't easy but shes' straight forward and helpful. Do the work and there will be no worries! Complaining about a law and ethics class teaching social media is silly. LOL!
Have her now. Alot of work, but its' Winter. Helpful. Posts lecture notes. Below after school comment is made up. Talks about power of the Internet, but also talks about TV, magazines, all mass media. After school poster (below) should get a facebook account. College professors shouldn't have to teach students how to use the social media.
This teach is very unpleasant. She knows her stuff but isn't quite good at teaching it. She also picks favorites in the class. Her semester project is pretty stupid and time consuming, you can do great on the tests and quizzes, but if you don't do so great on the project you'll end up with a B or C. I love journalism but I detest her style.
Got a C on the class project, but still got a B in the class. The previous poster is wrong. Quizzes and exams make up most of the grade. The project (not tough but time consuming) is about 10 percent of the semester grade. Posts lecture notes, gives out study guides. Interested in what students have to say. Your grade really depends upon you.
This class is not what it seems. going into it you think its going to be about mass media and society, however it mostly just media not much on the effects the media has on society. if you do take this class with this professor my advice is just to read your textbook more than pay attention to her drawn out irrelevant lectures. boring class no fun!
Fair, clear, approachable, and sometimes can even be funny. Accurate study guides for quizzes and exams--gives out study and project info early for students who work and want to get good grades. Post Power Pts. Is considerate, so your grade really depends upon you. Good class.
This professor was extremely rude, and unpleasant. The lectures consisted of her reading off power points. She's very boring as well. It seems like she tries to trick students on quizzes and tests. Avoid this class, trust me...
Mt. Sac needs to get another professor to teach this course. That is all I will say.
Honestly, great prof. Won't spoon feed or tell you everything you do is wonderful, but fair, helpful, and nice--NEVER rude, NEVER just reads from powerpts. Posts powerpts in advance but expands on them. Gives accurate study guides and in advance for students w/jobs and/or families. Worked in the field. Considerate--ur grade depends on u.
By far the best online instructor I've had here. Offered on-campus study sessions for all quizzes and exams and the semester project. Doesn't give a lot of busy work like alot of online teachers. Take her!
A lot of students dropped this course after the W date. She knows her stuff for sure, but just isnt good at teaching it.
She was condescending, rude, and her voice is annoying. Her grading is absurd and not participating at least once a week will drop down your grade an entire letter, regardless of how well you do on everything else. The quizzes and tests are 80% memorizing definitions and super easy. I don't like disrespecting teachers, but she is terrible.
If you want to take a class with out dated material take her class. She runs the class like it is a history class. She makes pointless corrections on the essay portions of the quizzes and exams. Can't wait to see some of her favorite write. I would not recommend her.
Jour 107 looks at historical through contemporary mass media which the prof did like Modern Family--currently on TV. She had some awesome speakers like a Muslim guy who talked about what its like to grow up Muslim today because of the media. She put together a reader so we didn't have to buy a book. Great class and great prof.
Participation is easy and its only 5% of the grade. I went from a B plus to an A minus because I participated. The material can be hard like law and ethics, but she does a good job of teaching it. She turned a PitBull song into a libel exercise. You have to read and study and that seems to be too much for some people.
Took this class as an elective. It was a cool class, but she is very old school and dry.
Don't know about other poster because the material is very up to date. There is material about shows that are just now airing. Great class. You'll never look at the mass media the same way. You do have to be open to looking at stereotyping that occurs in the mass media and you do have to study.
Do NOT take JOUR 107 with her. She is so disrespectful to her students. Also, she shows short clips and tells you to take good notes, but she doesn't shut up and let pay attention. Her method of grading doesn't make any sense and she deducts points on the short essay questions on quizzes for the most stupidest things. Do NOT recommend her.
Prof and class are amazining. Not old school. Uses lots of visual images. No, you can't play with your phone and you have to study to get a good grade, but PPL this is college. Stay home if you want your profs to amuse because I deserve a better priority registration date than alot of the people sitting next to me in classes.
You have to study but motivated students can do well. Book is free-handouts from prof. Lectures notes and links (for short clips, to) are posted. Study guides given. Your grade really depends on you putting in the effort. Class is about media racial and gender stereotypes so have an open mind. Course material and prof. are great. Enough said.
Ppt lectures available on the portal, provides studyguides for exams, and requires one project. College-level work and studying required, so if you're looking for a class where you can kick back and relax, just stay home so I can find a better parking spot. Goes the extra mile to help students who do college-level work.
Nice lady, but hard. A lot of reading. You have to participate in her class to pass.
She was a great professor but I did not really like her participation policy. Her tests and quizzes also really got me.
The class is rich in content. The professor is helpful. One has to read the textbook and powerpoints. There is no short cut. Pay attention to giving accurate answers to short-answer questions. The grade reflects one's effort. A is possible.
If you want to major in journalism, take Gina DePaola or Toni Albertson. Both know the field well.
Incredible class, but you have to have the right mindset. This is a class about racial, LGBT, and gender stereotypes. You will never look at a movie the same way after this class. Do the assigned readings and study. This is not a class for the closeminded or those looking to kickback and B.S. their way through.
Read the chapters, and study the power points and you will be fine on the tests and quizzes. when it came to the project, she is so unclear about writing in third person. writing center said my paper was fine but not gina. overall she wants the paper in her way of writing which she does not mention.
Straightforward, clear, no surprises, PowerPoints, study guides, put in real effort and will do average to well. BTW, 3rd person explained in project handout, in PowerPoints presentation, repeatedly in class, and allowed redo of initial draft to correct non-third person and other errors.
Very clear about expectations and willing to help outside of class. Participation is easy--expects 1 comment a week.
She ALWAYS responds to email. If you're looking for someone to run the classroom as though it is Sesame Street (attendance checks??) she's not your teacher. If you're looking for a collegelevel prof who's fair, take her. Clear, offers lots of resources, helps inside and outside of class. Good prof
Took her my first semester, but dropped because I was taking a lot of classes. However, she's an okay teacher who calls on people often and expects you to read with quizzes/tests often and a lot of group work too.
Great prof. Lectures r clear and easy to understand. Easily approachable. Available outside of class. After class, office hours and always by email. U grade genuinely reflects thd amount of effort and work u put in.
She explains the material clearly but expects the textbook answer on tests and quizzes. No textbook but a lot of reading from handouts. I felt like we were on our own this semester because a few people in the class held up lectures with their personal comments and she made the mistake by allowing them to talk for too long.
I think she did a great job at trying to enlighten and educate the class. I will never look at the media the same way. I think she did a great job of moderating class discussions including one really obnoxious guy. I appreciate the reader we built with free handouts cause texts are too $$$. I would take her again but you do have to study.
Really nice teacher. Wants college level material out of students which where we should be already. Sounds tough but in the end was not. Forsure i did my readings and wasnt going to passs if i didnt. always want a teacher to push potential out even when you want to but hard to do. She great overall
I learned a lot in her class. Pretty straightforward old school professor. I took her class during winter so tests and projects were everything but it was pretty much an easy A if you paid attention and skimmed the book. She may make things seem more boring than they really are but she gives a lot of interesting information and documentaries.
Posts detailed ppts which made taking notes easy. Gave out study guides earlier than most. Really helpful and willing to answer questions. Very approachable but yes you need to read and do the work because MtSAC is college and not a daycare center.
She's helpful with study guides and explains what will be on quizzes and exams. Her lectures are honestly long and boring though. Aside from that, she's kind and knows what she's talking about. Keep up with readings.
Professor De Paola is amazing. She'll help you if you ask for it and she is clear as to what she wants. She even lets you know what to study for before the test. the exams don't stray too far from the study guide. Just pay attention and you'll get an A. Highly recommend.
Knowledgeable, clear and willing to reexplain and give lots of examples. Very helpful and gives lots of resources such as PowerPoints with links for additional information, but you do have to read, participate, and otherwise work for your grade. College level prof who will prepare you for a 4 year. (None of the political sc profs are easy at MSAC)
Kind and helpful professor but you have to do the work. A little group work--all done in class. You will pass the group work if you do it. Calls on everyone in a group--never just one person. Like her approach. I have done the group work in other classes myself because people were lazy. You have to study and read. College level prof but helpful.
I took this professor for a Poli Sci class. She can be very demanding but she expects you to learn. if you do not want to learn, if you do not want to be responsible for the reading, do not take her. I would take her again. This time, i would participate more. DO NOT TEXT IN CLASS.
I swear I have never had a teacher I hated more then this lady. Not only does she trick you on test, her lectures are pointless when it comes quiz time. If you miss one question you can guarantee yourself a C. Also, during a normal class you can count about 45 times she uses filler words like "UM" . I strongly recommend not taking her "period".
She is one of the hardest, but most fair teachers I have had. She is approachable and generous with her time, but you have to come to class and do the work. We did all the tough chapters first and are doing the easy ones last. There are quizzes but they are based on the reading. Highly recommend her unless you are a slacker.
I found her approachable & clear. She gives study guides early & posts materials online to help. She is nice & kind prof but I think that gets misunderstood that she is easy which she is not. She just wants college level work out of students. If you don't want to read and learn, don't take her. She leaves a textbook at the Library for students.
Her lectures somewhat match up with the reading. Her quizzes are confusing because they are a mishmash of the lecture notes and the reading. There are so few questions on her quizzes you have to pretty much get all the answers right to get a passing quiz grade. And quizzes make up a HUGE chunk of your grade.
Ppl, her quizzes are totally based on the textbook and she tells you exactly what to study in the book for the quizzes. Gives written study guides for the big exams and way sooner then most proffessors. If you do not want a college level proffessor meaning you need to work at getting a good grade then don't take her but I would take her again.
She is not very organized. She gives quiz every time before class. She like to get feedback from students and made it sound like she is expecting a lot from you. Don't get scared just make sure you read the book well.
Give quiz and have to read books and links she posted or tell you to watch. Take notes because she not organized somehow. She is a bit odd sometimes and very specific about terms. She only like student who studies hard.
Very organized. Posts all lecture notes and links for short videos. Lots of examples of how to do things. Will read drafts. College level prof who treats you as an adult which means you need to read the book and study. Very clear and straightforward in what she expects and how she teaches. Gives study guides and early.
Very helpful. Very organized. Did the hardest chapters at the semester's beginning. Saved the easiest ones until the end. Posts all lecture notes. Definitely college level prof. You have to do the reading and study, but it is all doable if you are a grown up and are not looking for simply an easy class. Provides the text at the library.
she is a nice professor and has lot of knowledge in this field. Unfortunately my experience was not good :( she gives weekly quizzes on material that has not yet been introduced. Reading is mandatory in order to pass class. There are 2 midterms and a final and does not drop the lowest.
This class will make you work for your A. If you're interested in anything to do with the media, take it. If you want to challenge yourself, take it. An A will not be handed to you on a silver platter. Her tests are tricky, read the book and the power points thoroughly. Also, participate. It can be a deciding factor between two grades.
Quizzes are purely reading based. Drops lowest quiz score if you take all quizzes. If you are mentally back in high school and want to be spoon fed she's not your proffessor. Posts lecture notes & gives study guides. She is a nice lady but she is no push over. Take her if you want to learn and will read and study. I would take her again.
get ready to read. Though grader, quizzes and test are very tricky.
If you cannot open a book and do the reading then you do not belong in college. Very helpful, but yes, she is a college level prof because Mt. SAC is a COLLEGE.
Very thought proving class about how the entertainment media pushes racist and homophobic images. Shows some great documentaries. Helpful and clear in her expectations. Provides a free reader compiled with handouts. Great professor but do not enroll if you just want to sit there and try and BS your way through class.
lots of vocal fillers that annoy lecture, same routine, weekly quizzes and test were hard, do not recommend her. Good luck if you decide to take her class.
6 quizzes. Dropped the lowest. 2 midterms. Final. Some group work but done in class. Posts lecture Power Points . Available after class, during office hours, and by email. If you are willing to do the reading and study this is a doable class. Material is not easy but it is political science. Very nice lady, but college level prof.
Is she an easy prof? No, but she is helpful and considerate. She told us at the beginning that she was taking the toughest chapters first and saving the easier ones for the end. The final was easier then the midterms. If you do not to work hard or if you think a prof should agree with everything that comes out of your mouth then do not take her.
She's a tough grader, but that's what you should expect for a college course. She doesn't use a textbook but instead opts for handouts. If you don't bother with the reading, you won't pass. She is pretty clear on what she is looking for when it comes to her tests. The class itself is very interesting, and I would take it again if I could.
If you are a serious student, you will love her. If you expected to be amused and pass with little effort, then go back to preschool. Wonderful professor and always available to help. Course is rich with content in terms of Powerpoints. Great at explaining material. Gives lots of examples. Very clear about about what is on tests. Nice lady.
Homework is reading. Will not pass without reading. Tough grader, but presents material in a very understandable way. Will reexplain if you ask. If you put in effort she will help you. Low key personality. Don't know why anyone would say she has a bad attitude other than that they aren't happy with their grade. Nice professor. College level
Expects you to read but all profs do. Gives study guides very early that accurately reflect exams. Always available for questions and help. Would take again but I am really a grown up not looking to be handed an easy grade.
Helpful, always on topic, clear, and extensive knowledge of the subject. Do the reading as extra credit questions are drawn from it. Will tell you exactly what to study. Very nice.
Do the reading as extra credit questions are drawn from it. Will tell you exactly what to study.
She seems intimidating at first, but she's honestly very sweet and SO patient with her students. If you don't understand something, DON'T hesitate to ask. She wants you to do well in the class. Took during Winter and it was a lot of information, but totally doable. Gave extra credit opportunities in weekly quizzes. One midterm, one final.
Truly wonderful professor. Works hard to make material clear and understandable. Provides PowerPoints and lots of other resources online to help. Very knowledgeable and yes, such a nice person. Really made what is happening with the presidential race clear. One of the best classes I've had at SAC.
Ms. Gina is forever the BEST! She is TOUGH! On everything! But it's because she cares. She teaches not only the subject, but also skills that are helpful in college. You HAVE TO study and read! If you want to learn something, take Gina. Her passion is transmitted to you. Participation will also save you. Extra credit is above your final grade!
PAY ATTENTION DURING LECTURES! PARTICIPATE, PARTICIPATE, PARTICIPATE! If you don't like to talk in class, do not take her. However, when it comes tests and quizzes, the extra credit points are used as percentages towards your final grade, which is great. Always study and read, if not, you won't pass.
Low-key personality, but gave incredibly inspiring lecture today about the 2016 election being an invitation to millennials to not retreat but to change politics. Yes you will read and alot. Yes there are quizzes and exams. This is no cake walk. She is no preschool teacher babysitting millennials because she knows were are capable. Fair and clear.
First off, she's a very good professor. She actually teaches unlike many professors. She is sensitive about race and gender. She will challenge you to be a better writer and thinker. Always provides study guides early. Helpful and available outside of class.
Professor DePaola is amazing. She's passionate about both her departments, always has time for students, inspires her students, and she's very thorough about all her assignments. She specifically states what she is looking for and will clarify information if needed. Reading and studying are a must to pass the class.
Had this winter. Was a lot of work, but winter/summer always are. Great at giving out study guides early and answering questions about guides. Incorporated ALOT of what is happening with Trump, the courts, and other stuff. Willing to reexplain stuff. Best thing is she brought chocolate cookies! Read and participate. Passionate about Poli.
Great Poli1 teacher, especially in this political climate. Took during winter. Lots of thorough reading is required. Gives very helpfully specific study guides. Good prof with good class policies. Highly recommend.
My first impression of Gina was something like "Oh my gosh, this lady has no emotion," but as the semester went on, she opened up more and showed us that she is extremely kind and has a good sense of humor. Her class is tough, and you're going to have to read a lot, but that shouldn't scare you away from her. If I'm able to, I'll take her again.
I did not have a single problem with her & I personally don't see how anyone could because she has a really mild mannered personality. She is not the type who would ever belittle a student. Very helpful & very considerate about getting study guides to students very early for big exams. Always willing to answer questions in & outside of classes.
Professor DePaola is absolutely extraordinary. She's definitely a college-level professor. She's very clear about what she expects and is caring toward students. She's a tough grader, but encourages students to meet with her to find better ways of studying the material. She's extremely considerate. Received an A in both her JOURN100 and POLI SCI1
Such an incredibly helpful and amazing prof. Lectures are clear. Study guides given early. Available outside of the classroom for help. Anyone who complains about her is just lazy.
She inspired me to care about what is happening in government. Yes, you will have to read, study, attend class, and participate in class. She is definitely a college professor, so you will have to work for your grade, but you will be a better student because of her. She is also kindhearted. She bought snacks for us on final exam day--apples.
A lot of people say that Gina is a hard professor, yet she is hard if you don't try. She literally gives you study guides for quizzes and tests and if you really study it, you will pass.
Like how we did the hard chapters at the beginning. The end of the semester was easier. Posts helpful lecture notes. Accurate study guides, so no surprises on exams. Open to student comments about the media. Very up to date.
She will not answer a question that is already in the PPT, she'll skip over it. The point of asking a question is for an answer, not be ignored. She will NOT cover material if the ppl didn't read prior to class. We're there to learn from HER not just the book. Too much info for a winter session, however, many study guides are given. Hard grader.
Gotta say she is generous in answering questions. She answers as well as saying where in the book or in her lecture notes you can find answers. She posts incredible lecture notes and includes links to additional materials to help students. She is always asking us if we have questions. Has extra credit and study guides.
Get ready to buy the text book and read them as it is mandatory since the lecture feels like a rant and a waste of time. Don't expect to ask questions too since she would most likely reply with "read the book" anyways. Lecture notes are provided online but may consists of over unnecessary information.
If you don't want to read or if you don't want to use your brain, then don't take her, but she's a great and caring professor who will prepare you for transferring. Is generous in answering questions in and outside of class and gets study guides out early. Her powerpoints are detailed but I personally found that really helpful. Brought us treats.
I didn't buy the book cause she leaves copies at the library. Took pics with camera. She explained everything well and she always checked with the class to see if we had questions. Is very clear and very helpful. Uses good examples to break down concepts. Fair. Do have to study and read.
Study guides are helpful, but that's it. If you get 1 essay question wrong, get ready for your grade to sink like the Titanic. If you don't understand something from the book, she will assume you did not read and will not help you. Count your test scores cause she makes so many mistakes grading. There's better professors, so do yourself a favor.
College level prof but invites u to her office for help, has great PowerPoints, & does answer questions. Partial credit on essays if answer is not all right. All u need to succeed is read, attend lectures, & go by study guides. Emailed her alot when I read the text--she reexplained things from class. Helpful & nice, but u need to do ur part.
She is a nice/sweet teacher. All I can say is, be PREPARED TO READ because it is so important. Also participation is really important, I took her for winter and it was required to participate twice a week. She also gives a study guide for tests. The class is hard, but if you keep up with the reading and pay attention to lecture it's passable.
Do the reading because she draws extra credit questions from it, plus you will discuss the reading material in class. We did the really hard chapters early in the semester which made the ending alot easier. Has study guides and PowerPoints really help with taking notes. She is only hard if you do not put in any effort in the class. Brought snacks.
Do urself a favor & take this professor. Loved the class discussions and how she wouldn't let anyone marginalize lgbt, immigrants, and latinos. She made me realize my vote matters. Yes you have to read and show up to class but isn't that that the point of college? To learn? Yes gives study guides and yes canvas lecture notes r helpful.
She is so kind & inclusive. She is up to date and considerate of all walks of people. You MUST attend class and read at home to pass the quizzes & exams, if you get used to that then you will learn a lot and pass. Ask questions, she will make sure you understand. She will open your eyes and inform you about our country, present & past!
I love her!!! I am an engineering major and I never paid attention to social science classes, but I loved this class. Going to her class was always the best thing of the entire week. Sitting there and listening to her just made my day. She makes you forget all of your problems and makes you realize that you vote. Take her now! Love you prof Depaola
If you're in her 100 class, you HAVE to understand it's about the history of media, not journalism writing. You have to show up to class and study in order to pass her exams, but she's an extremely fair grader. Make sure you turn on notifications for her on Canvas as well, or you won't get the material you need, especially if it's a hybrid class!
I love this professor. So rarely do you encounter someone passionate, strong, and inclusive. She is kind and charming. She encourages students to do their best. She treats her students like adults and allows them to succeed or fail on their terms.
She does not round up your grade even if you are borderline and she expects you to participate at least once a week other than that she is very up-to-date and informative clearly has a passion for her subject and gives great study guides as long as you do those you should pass .
Doesn't round up grades because of extra credit. My grade went from a high B to an A cause I did the EC. Do all of the assigned reading cause she puts bonus questions on the quizzes as EC that gets added to end of semester grades. Your grade is really up to you and not her responsibility. Is passionate & inclusive as others note.
She's super lecture heavy and usually just reads right off the slides. Skip class, you definitely won't pass and she also forces you to participate every week (5% of your grade) which was annoying, she's also stickler for the rules and doesn't round grades, offer extra credit, or bump final grade and she get super mad if you even bring it up
PPl complaining about extra credit didn't do the work to get it. My grade went from a high C to a low B cause of EC. Don't know why anyone complains about having to make one comment a week. Easy points! She is passionate about her subject. Inclusive about all races, immigrants, and LGBTQ+. Always available to help after class. Early study guides.
Always stays after winter classes to help students with the class, talk about politics or just about anything a student has questions about. Up to date. Great study guides. Do the study guides, do the reading, and ask for help if you need it. She is passionate and really trys to get students engaged with politics.
Winter: no homework, quiz/test at end of week, group work was a worksheet that can be done solo, hates phones/talking, gives accurate study guides early, no pop quizzes, no research paper, & gave snacks. Grade you get is the grade you earn. She drops the lowest quiz(got a C) & I got high scores for everything else. Participation is 5%. EC is hard.
Home work is weekly reading. Quizzes, midterm, final. Some writing. Very accurate and early study guides. Always available for questions. Really grade depends on you and whether you do the work. College level prof. Nice lady. Would take her again if I can,
The reading is not really necessary but if you want to answer the extra credit question(s) at the end of each (4) quiz/ (2) exams then READ, each ec point boosts your grade percentage. Participation counts as 5%. The PPT layout is a bit confusing to read. 1 group work assignment. She brings snacks on exam days. I recommend her for winter/summer.
Great prof, but the quizzes are READING quizzes, so you really should read the text. Do the study guides she gives out and go to her office if you need help.
Professor DePaola has a rep of being tough, but really, you just have to read and participate in lectures! She really knows her stuff and you can tell she plans her lectures and takes time to go over stuff we don't understand.
Definitely a college level professor but if you do the reading and use her study guides you should be fine. I got partial credit on my essays--always did so I don't know why anyone says she doesn't give partial credit. Clear prof who will work with you but you have to do the work yourself and come to class. Nice lady.
Definitely cares about the subject she teaches. Helpful study guides. Clear lectures. Helpful study guides. Posts lecture study notes. Uses Gradebook. Always available to answer questions. Brought us apples and breakfast bars on the final exam day so she cares about students. Must do the reading and go to class. Must study.
Best jour prof. Loved materials on Latinx images and how advertisers use social media. Organized. Clear lectures with notes posted. Did hard chapters in beginning with easier material at end. Always available to help. Has extra office hours if you can't come during her posted ones. Cool about students going into hallway to use phones.
She does not allow space for mistake. If you fluently English. You're lucky because at least you know how to answer to get the participate points since you can't answer the exact words as textbook, friends, her or anybody else. It sucks for me because I'm trying my best and I still didn't live up her expectation. My grade sinking day by day.
Participation is only 5% of grade so participation doesn't make or break your grade. Projects but interesting topics you chose from. Great films. Clear study guides so no exam surprises. College level professor but very fair grader. Will take sgain if can. Nice lady
Best jour & best poli sc professor! Had someone else for one of those classes who was nice, but so flaky & unorganized. Didn't learn anything from other prof. Gina is definitely a college level prof, but helpful and clear. Really cares about both her fields. Teaches each well. Gives study guides & posts notes. Gets you ready to transfer.
I really enjoyed taking this class with professor DePaola. Compared to other classes, she is very clear on what you need to get done in order to pass. If you read, do all the assignments, participate once a week and attend class regularly, you will pass. As a journalism major i found each lecture very interesting and loved all the film/clips shown.
If you like to stay quiet during class and just do your work, then this class isn't for you. Participation is a good portion of your grade and she writes down every time you participate. Students with a fluctuating work schedule, this class isn't for you either. She only gives you 3 excused absences, after that she drops you from the class.
I'm really bad in math, but since when is 5% for participation a "good portion" of a grade. 2 midterms 40%, semester project 15%, final 20%, quizzes, 20%, & participation 5%. 3 absences for any reason. No excuses needed. Open notes on some exams. Love class topics, films, and discussions. Great prof. Helpful. Always clear. Posts lectures. N
Interesting class. Hard chapters--media law & ethics --at beginning, but then the class looks at media constructed images of race & LGBTQ minorities & women, plus the kinds of mass media. Prof. is organized & clear. No surprises. Brought a media professional to class. Awesome class discussions. Prepares us for transferring. Would take her again.
Took her hybrid class and its not too bad. The class comes of as a lot of work but its very doable if you manage your time. 3 exams, project, online discussions and weekly quizzes. She gives study guides for everything. Doesnt give that much extra credit. Its easy to fall behind, so keeping up with the readings are a must. Take her!
Would never do anything to embarrass a student. Shows great concern for all races and LGBTQ. Tutored me during her office hours and online. Genuinely caring person. She repeated a question I asked because she said other students probably had the same question and needed the answer. Great Prof.
SUPER MONOTONE!! Idk why nobody else mentioned this which makes it hard to stay awake during an early class! Have to walk out a few times to refresh myself. SO SO much reading! All tests are based off reading every chapter from the textbook. Take another professor. I wouldve dropped if other professors had space!
Requires reading, but not more than other profs. Doesnt require all chapters be read. As others have said, accurate study guides so no surprises. Clear lectures with lots of examples. Passionate about Poli 1. I have accommodations that she was sensitive about.
Took her Jour 100 and her Poli 1. College level, but great prof. Had someone else for jour who was totally disorganized. You know what you are doing everyday in class, notes are posted, great study guides, talks about what's happening in politics, and gives back graded papers fairly quickly. Really great Poli 1 prof for today. Take her
Simply put, do not take her. There are easier professors. Took her for winter & barely passed with a 70% & many others had bad grades hoping the final would boost them up from the 50/60s% Requires every chapter to be read or passing will be impossible. Grades tough. Avoid this professor.
Two big thumbs up to prof! Positive experience even though winter & heavier work load than fall/spring . Don't know why anyone complains about reading. Not true that she assigned reading the entire book. Theme about minorities & millennial & gen z in politics. R u ready 4 college? Then take her! Some reading & studying & a little participation.
Genuinely nice lady and good prof. 2 midterms (one w/essay but u know topic), quizzes and exams (early study guides), fairly easy semester projects, some easy group work. Great films on roles of women and Latinx in media. Looks at little at concepts of influences. Do your work, study, and show up to class and you'll be fine.
Since our transition to online courses, some of my prof have not been actively responsive to students' concerns & questions. However, Professor DePaola, despite being a full-time faculty, always devoted time for her students online. She sets up virtual office hours as to best answer students' questions and clarification. Very informative & amazing,
She is picky on grammar. Had abt 5 discussions. Quiz every week. She drops the lowest discussion and quiz. Gives study guides that help for quiz/exams. 3 exams. She is using proctorio since we transition to online. She is accessible through email. Very nice and understanding. For discussions make sure you dont let your feelings affect ur position.
By and far most accessible of my profs during remote--day or night & weekends. You have to earn your grade, but she is incredibly helpful. Went out of her way to make sure we knew about how to reach counselors, the pass/no pass, etc. Interesting discussions. I.e., BLM and police reform. Great, accessible prof .
I enjoyed taking Journalism 100 with Professor Depaola. I found her to be very caring and helpful to her students. It's a course where you need to put in your time to achieve a good outcome. I appreciated that anytime I had questions, she was available to assist me. I highly recommend this course.
Great online professor. Available by email and Zoom. Helpful study guides for quizzes and big exams. Posted lecture notes. Email reminders about what things are due and when although there is a posted schedule. Very clear. Easy to talk to.
Best remote prof!. Cares alot about students. Super clear on what she expects. Very accessible--zoom office hours & responds really quickly to emails. She basically maps out a course for students to be successful. Breaks down material so that it is easy to understand. Highly recommend her for in person and remote classes. Such a nice person.
Have her now. Always available. Emails you back immediately or w/in few hours. Weekly quizzes, but can take twice. Posts study guides & lecture notes. College level prof but is caring & very helpful. Book available as free PDFs online from Library. Zoom office hours if needed. Had a Canvas problem. She called Canvas 4 me & got a solution.
Honestly the worst professor. Rude and not willing to help. If you take her drop it. She gives so many quizzes and it is stupid that you can take it twice but the second grade is the one you will receive. So if you take the first one and get a decent grade, take it again and get a worse grade then the one you did you will get the worst one. drop
Love her. U have to put in some effort, but she is the most reachable & approachable prof during covid. Have been amazed how quickly she emails back. Just do the study guides & ask for help if u need it. She will provide u w/as much help as u ask 4. Treats students like adults & allows them to succeed or fail on their terms. Genuinely cares
Any one who says she isn't helpful and rude is just upset about a grade. I have emailed her so many times in this virus semester, but she has always kindly, patiently, and quickly replied. She also helped with other things such as how to make an appointment w/a counselor. You have to earn your grade, but if you can get over that, she is a real gem
By far the best for remote semesters. Always, always available online to help and answer questions. Canvas page and all assignments are clear. Very doable class. Sends reminder emails about what's do and when. Highly recommend.
Always available by email, Zoom & even will call you if you prefer that. Goes out of her to help & is caring. Free PDF chapters of textbooks. Clear straight forward. Totally doable. No surprises. Provides study guides with some material given ahead. Can take quizzes twice. Reminders so you don't miss any work. Perfect remote prof for these times.
She makes herself available for questions via email and zoom. She is a great professor that wants you to learn. Gives many articles about a topic and her questions come from the reading assignments. As long as you read you will pass her quizzes. Her discussions are also doable. She will send out reminder emails of everything that's due that week!
I really respect and like Prof. DePaola, however, her class is not easy. You do have to read the book and put in the work. She is not an easy grader but not too bad either. Quizzes are mostly easy with a few tricky questions. The videos and articles provided are pretty fun but are not very objective.
I have never struggled so much before in a class. She does not care about her students. You're better off taking any other professor at mtsac. Class average on every quiz was a D. The discussion posts are boring and also require lots of articles to read. Not to mention quiz questions are very long, she gives you one min per question to read &answer
Will provide you w/as much help as you ask for. Always available. Workload is fair. Expectations are clear. Tells you exactly what she expects. Sometimes lets you redo work. Do the study guides. The only reason someone would struggle is they don't ask for help or they don't do the work. Marginalization of minorities is class theme.
She gives study guides which do follow tests for the most part. Some of the questions on the test do not follow the study guide at all. She gives a little bit of time on quizzes which leaves you little time to think about the question. You get two attempts at a quiz but she averages the scores together. Not a good professor but not terrible.
Organized, easy to follow course. Clear, accurate study guides for quizzes and exams. I answered the study guide questions ahead and set up Zooms with her to go over areas I had questions about. She always says she's just an email away to help and she really is. Just do the work and you'll be fine. Best, more reachable remote proffessor
She is a very TOUGH GRADER !! She will return your paper if you do not include the slightest detail . Her quizzes and test are timed with only a minute a question. There is a lot of articles to read before doing discussion posts. Her class points are revolved around the midterm, its worth a lot of points!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER CLASS AT ALL
Didn't have a single problem. 2 midterms, 1 final, essay posted as a long discussion, some discussions but not every week, & quizzes that can be taken twice. Not a class where your grade is based on big exams. Always available to help. Gives helpful feedback. Overall theme of how minorities are marginalized, so she is a sensitive. Big thumbs up.
Creates a safe space for people of color and LGBT. Straightforward class. Interesting discussions. Use assigned readings in discussions--quotes and facts. Do the study guides. As others say is very accessible during the remote semester. Gives detailed feedback and advice. Gives several days to takes quizzes and exams.
Very rude and condescending over email. Never grades anything so you won't know your grade. When she does grade, it's very harsh and unnecessarily picky. Not a heavy homework load but overly heavy required reading materials. This is coming from someone who enjoyed a four unit history class with an essay due every week...
Her assignments are clear and straight to the point--mostly quizzes and discussions. I did one discussion incorrectly and she let me have a redo--most profs wouldn't have allowed a redo. Do the reading, do the study guides for exams, and ask questions if you need help. You'll be okay. I didn't have a single problem with her.
Very picky grader and will deduct a lot of points. She'll reply to emails, but she does so very condescendingly! She also grades very slowly and won't update canvas for weeks. There's a lot of reading material to cover and without it you won't pass. She does hand out study guides but the tests don't follow them at all.
There's a difference between a professor making a class with the sense of you needing to work to get the grade you deserve and purposely making the work difficult. I felt like I was set up to fail since the first week of class. Lots of reading. Study Guides were little help on the test/quizzes as well. class was draining and felt like a waste.
Not the easiest but not the hardest class/prof. Weekly quizzes, 3 discussions, a midterm, & final. Have to read each week's module for the next to open. Pretty typical canvas page w/written lectures. Id advise on discussions to quote your evidence from the assigned readings. Very average prof but is inclusive of races and LGBTQ
Took her 8 week class and its not too bad.. Drops 2 quizzes and drops 1 discussion. Keeping up with readings is a must but alot of the weekly quiz answers are in the lecture notes and the videos. Gives study guides for everything. Clear in what she's asking for. Expects alot, but gives ALOT of help if you ask for it and sometimes extends deadlines
Clear & super easy to navigate Canvas page. Not the fastest grader but gives helpful feedback on how to get more points on assignments, Quizzes match the lecture notes and textbook. Accurate study guides. Weekly quizzes but drops 2 and lightens up near the end so you can prepare for the final. Some but not to many discussions. Very reasonable
Yep, theres reading but that shouldnt be a shock 'cause this is college & an online class. Discussions, quizzes, 1 midterm, final. Quizzes and final can be taken twice. Drops 2 quizzes. Drops 1 discussion. Available for help on Zoom during office hours and outside of office hours. Sometimes allows redos on work. Sensitive about race and LGBTQ+
Not my easiest prof but the only who let us take the final twice. Compared to other classes, is very clear on what u need to get done each week. Emails reminders and can be flexible if you have a good reason. Up to date. Considerate of minorities. Encourages students to do their best, treats students like adults.
Many students think about rating a professor when they have a bad experience. Good professors are often underrated. Hence why Professor Gina is sOOooo underrated. No lockdown browser 4 quizzes/exams,open notes open book. Knowledge and information up to date. Study guides. Read lecture notes, super helpful 4 quizzes/exams. Answers emails w/in hrs
As a professor, she is really nice and caring. Expect the majority of the work to be quizzes. If you are consistent on studying and determined to keep up with her class, I say take it. If not, please don't just so you want fall behind and fail. Always follow her study guides!
This feels more like an English class at times. The discussion posts seem to be heavily graded on grammar rather than on the Political Science Material. Quizzes and tests have a lot of questions that are confusing rather than straight forward. Short amount of time for quiz so at times you just answer hoping to not run out of time.
The textbook is not good with too much information to memorize and information is too scattered. Plus, the lecture notes provided by the professor helped with nothing with no important points because everything is important. I hope you guys do not choose this course because there are very few takeaways and your efforts will not be paid off.
College level class/teach but SMTM gives ex days for work & a few freebie pts on big exams. Book is ok & u can buy older editions. Quiz study guides helpful so always follow. Read lecture notes & watch videos. Ask 4 help if needed. Is kind. Got me a loaner laptop & hot spot. SMTM allow redos. Put in the effort & u'll be okay.
Stay consistent, finish all assignments, & ask for help when needed, you'll be fine. Weekly quizzes. Follow study guides. Some discussions, follow posted discussion standards. Unknowningly had copied materials in a discussion. Gave me a redo, so she can be kind & caring. Basically maps out what needs to be done so its' up to you to do the work.
Always available to help--not just w/class. Made sure we knew about laptop loaners, food assistance, vaccines, tutoring, etc. You had to read and study, but she really cared about students as human beings and it didn't matter if you were white or black or an immigrant or LGBTQ+ Just wanted to say that because my class was her last one. She retired.
