Really interested in economics, very friendly and helpful! A very tough grader though, so be careful.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. Highly recommended if you are interested in the subject and really want to learn. (However, slackers beware!) Led great class discussions.
Great Teacher...highly recommended...she is tough but a lenient grader. Makes the class interesting.
Very good teacher, informative, makes subject matter clear, gives good notes/handouts, very approachable, you do need to work for your grade though, not an easy class. Take notes and listen and you should do fine.
She's willing to put in extra effort to make sure you understand the material well. The class is difficult, but lectures are interesting!
She does a great job at teaching this course she really makes it easy if you put the extra effort forth. If you don't do anything or don't go to class you will probably be behind, there is a lot to learn in this course but she makes learning it understandable and fun.
Gina is a great teacher, she explains things clearly, she made the material easy. During the semester she was always willing to stay after class and help me if I had a question. She is very approachable and friendly; I felt like she really cared about the students and wanted us to do well. I wouldn't hesitate to take another class with her.
I had to work my butt off in this class, hardest class I've ever had!! I learnt alot tho, and she was always willing to help if I had questions. She gave answer keys for homeworks and practice midterms, which was good.
Very challenging, hard, and time consuming to begin the semester. As the semester went on assignments were much easier. Also, her mid-terms and final are strictly based off of homeworks and practice finals (nothing was shocking on any test). Overall, her class is easy with good attendance and attention to detail.
Gina is an extremely helpful teacher who makes lectures interesting by relating much of the content to current economic issues. The workload at the beginning of the semester will weed out some of the students looking for an easy A but regular attendance and review of handouts make her class comparable to most 4 credit classes at the U.
Although the material is pretty hard, Gina is really really good at delineating what exactly you need to know, and how you can know it. She's a fair grader and more than willing to make time for students, the assignments are substantial but manageable (and not a huge portion of your overall grade), and really, she's just a peach to be around.
Gina's a great teacher. She has a good grasp of what is going on with the world economy and she ties that with what we learn in class. Her class is tough as she gives a ton of assignments but they all prepare us for the midterms and finals. It's not too hard to get an A in this class.
Great teacher, learnt a lot.
She was kind of strict but a good teacher. She always seemed very open to help and answer questions outside of class. The book is not needed for this class! seriously don't waste your money, all the info for the tests comes straight from lecture.
This was an excellent Econ course, and she simplified it and made it easy to understand and takeaway. Go to class, take solid notes word for word, pay semi-attention, do your Homeworks and study everything for her tests, and you will do perfectly fine.
Very easy class, and the teaching is very good. You could ace it with flying colors
Very good class. Easy Midterms!
She made it very clear what she wanted us to learn in the class - just pay attention, take good notes and study what she tells you to.
Her tests may be hard, but she is by far one of the BEST professors I have had!
Lecture Outlines make the class very easy to follow. Works at the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis, so she knows her Macro.
Gina is a great teacher. She definitely developed my interest in macroeconomics and finance. If you really would like to learn, take her class. I did not do well in the first midterm, but as I studied harder, it became a piece of cake for me! Definitely recommend her!!!
Very hard tests that require you to memorize all math equations incredibly fast, never enough time. Most boring teacher I have ever had, all lectures consist of is taking notes everyday, no visuals, no voice inflection, just notes
Come to class and take notes and you will pass with ease. Fun teacher to have overall.
Gina is obviously knowledgeable and keeps the class manageable so that if you put in the effort you can get a good grade.
Notes are very helpful. Lecture outlines are very useful when studying for Midterms and Final.
GREAT PROFESSOR!! She really tries to make sure that everyone understands the work and problems.
Good job. Sometimes confused eith the outline.
Gina is really a great professor. She knows the material very well, and is always there to help. She does expect a lot out of you, but hard work coupled with her helpfulness makes an A very possible. Take her class if you can!!!
Gina is one of the few fav teachers i have ever had in my life, ya u can say well in 250+ class how can u say that. but i say if you are interested in learning more she can really zoom in on ya and help you out a lot. ATTENTION to specially Econ majors take GIna's class you will love your decsition more!!!
Nice prof. Class is easy if you go to lecture and do the homework.
KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT AND IS VERY CLEAR ON PARTICULAR ISSUES.EXPLAINS IN DETAILS WHICH IS VERY USEFUL TO STUDENTS.
Great teacher
I think Pieters is one of the few phD students who could teach really well in such a big class like this. And her ability to engage you in the class is fascinating despite that the accent could be sometimes distracting.
Great teacher!
She's a fantastic teacher with a cool accent. Her explanations of the material are easily understandable and she is available to answers questions. As long as you attend lectures, pay attention, and do the homework, getting a good grade in this course is very easy. Her practical applications of the material we are learning are very interesting.
Good teacher overall, clear and consise. She is knowledgeable and explains things in a manner so you will understand.
Good Teacher!
I thought Gina was great. She gave practice exams before each test which were very helpful and were very similar to the actual exam. The lectures are not that bad. Somewhat interesting. She is very clear when explaining the material. All in all, I thought she was a great teacher.
Decent teacher. Very difficult final as compared to midterms
Very helpful, easy exams, just go to class and study and you will do amazing.
She is really clear, take notes and you will be just fine. None of the notes are posted online, so I would suggest having friends you can borrow from in case you miss a day or something. The tests are easy if you go to lectures.
Horrible teacher.
She makes macro more easily understood.
Her study guides for the midterms are extremely helpful tools. Her grading system is pretty fair in that you can drop a midterm or the homework or have less weight on the final. You actually have to go to class to get the lecture notes though, which suxxxxxxx.
Go to class, take notes, go to discussion, make sure to do the study guides several times before the test = most likely to get an A
pretty good
The exam samples are really useful.
She's so funny! Good class. A little hard but overall not too bad.
Gina is very clear with instructions and protocol. However, she does not do a good job of clarifying how different concepts work together. She makes complicated concepts seem even more confusing. She rushes through examples during classes that are ostensibly set aside for review. She's a decent teacher, but not amazing.
You just have to go to class and take the lecture notes, you'll be fine. Promise! Promise right here!
She is a good teacher
The Exam samples are really useful
She lets you know exactly what you need to and how to do well in the class, her office hours are very helpful, AND she's got an accent! Okay!
The first thing I noticed is that the South African accent reminded me of Mo from Nickelodeon Guts. The second thing I noticed is that it didn't compensate for my general distaste in economics. The unbound book is cheap, but frustrating to use sometimes, and the concepts can be hard to grasp. Showing up for lecture is super important.
This course is not difficult at all as long as you show up for lecture. Gina makes the material interesting and easy to learn.
Lectures are very important. other than that, if you take notes in lecture you'll do fine in the class!
Very cute accent, delivers material in a neat and organized way, provides MANY practice examples for math, and makes practice exams that are VERY close to actual exams. Attend lecture and take notes and you should do fine!
It is imperative to attend lecture as there are times she covers information (particularly equations and formulas) which are not featured in the textbook. While she does not post her lecture notes online, she does provide a bare bones outline for each lecture. The practice exams she provides are identical to the actual exams (including the final).
tons of mistakes in exam questions and solutions
just print out the lecture guides and things will be crystal clear
very good
Very Very helpful and nice! She is an amazing teacher!
Not the most approachable professor, but offers very good lectures so you will only be asking questions if you don't pay attention.
Gina is a pretty good professor. She can seem mean sometimes but i think that's just the days she doesnt have starbucks. study the practice midterms and you should do ok in the class. textbook isnt required but can help reinforce some concepts.
Seems mean and unapproachable but she's not. She's very nice and very approachable. Great teacher. Text book not really used at all. Go to class, take notes and you'll be fine.
Very nich teaching
Gina is a great professor - you can tell from talking with her that she enjoys teaching. Her lectures are very straight forward - if you show up and complete the lecture notes and use the practice midterms and final to study you should do well. She doesn't use the book, so save yourself $12 and don't buy it if you don't need the extra resource.
Follow her instruction and you can get a good grade easily.
Go to class, take notes (filling in the lecture outlines is good enough), do the practice exams and you'll get an A.
One of my favorite professors. Loved her accent!
Loved her accent!
Honestly, one of the worst teachers I have had at the University of Minnesota.
She is honestly the best professor I have had yet. She made lecture interesting, and useful. Her exams are tough, but she provides you with everything you need to do well on them.
Cute accent.
Reigning from South African Decent, don't mistake her accent for British. If you come to Gina's class and take notes you will be fine on the tests!
Pretty good!
Only writes definitions. Does not elaborate. Very difficult. Homework is extremely intense, but worth little points. Short time allotted for Midterms, but all Short-Answer questions does not work well.
Utterly incapable of labeling what she is talking about which makes lectures frustrating and confusing. Provides incredibly misleading practice midterms. Midterms are 50 minutes long with about 40 short answer, graphing, and math questions. I'm a pretty smart kid and unfortunately will be lucky to escape with a C. Avoid at all costs.
Her practice study guides are not adequate for the tests. Moreover, there is not enough time to even finish the tests. Her lectures rarely correlate with what is on the test. Avoid Gina Pieters at all costs.
Practice mid-terms are not helpful and it seems like she really doesn't care about her students learning. All she does is fill in blanks in lecture-anyone could do her job. Really wish she actually gave better info to prepare for tests. Not helpful and she would gain a lot more respect and be a better teacher if she just made adequate study guides.
Her practice exams are not helpful. Homework consumes a lot of work and does not help with the exam very well. She ask questions in the exam she did not cover in class. The time is very short for the exams to take because they are 33 short and math questions. I am lucky if I survive this class with C.You will be disappointed when you see question s
Avoid her at all costs! Her homework takes forever, isn't worth many points and doesn't help for the tests. Her lectures don't help for the tests much at all.
Lectures are just filling in printed outlines. Online homework can get annoying. Tests are straight forward short answer. No tricks. Good professor; I reccomend her.
Honestly, if you can't get an A in this class, that's your fault. For the second midterm she put one of the pages on the camera and said "the midterm will have these exact questions on it" and it did. I've never even unwrapped my book, but you do have to buy it for the aplia homework code. I would recommend this teacher to the very end.
She has a cool (south african I assume) accent. Lectures can get boring. She hops back and forth from incredibly easy topics to fairly complicated things you need to pay attention to, so stay on your toes. Not bad overall though. Practice midterms (and final)are VERY similar to the actual things. Plus, you can go to any discussion you want.
I hate this teacher and I learned nothing from her.
Gina is amazing. She doesn't put up with people's crap, which I actually enjoyed. She lectures at a pretty good clip, but it's necessary to cover all the material. She does an excellent job of clearly communicating the material and making plenty of real-world applications. I had this class at the start of the day, and it always made my day amazing.
She tries hard. Really does. Her 'facts' aren't valid and often incorrect or outdated. If you have taken 1101, you probably can get by without doing anything.
If you need an 'A', you need this class
Tests are hard to complete in under 50 minutes but course content is very easy. She gives you outlines to print out for each class.
there should be access to notes other than office hours and friends.
Her lectures are identical to the lecture notes so showing up is optional though recommended so you can ask questions. The Aplia homework doesn't seem to help all that much and the textbook is hardly needed at all though so it seems like a waste of $90. The tests are fairly easy; you just need to memorize the steps on the study guide.
Gina really, really cares. I looked forward to her lectures b/c I gained so much insight about the world; they are supremely interesting if you attend them w/o the sole goal of filling in the lecture outlines. Ask questions! Aplia hmwk is applicable to her class b/c it tests your knowledge of the concepts, not whether you can do the problem or not.
her exam is like a memorizing contest: to see whose writing faster as to finish the lonnngg exam.
Gina C. Pieters is the most fabulous professor in the economics department at the University of Minnesota, and her lectures are very insightful if you find Economics to be of any interest. The exams are very similar to the actual lecture notes/practice exams so study up on them!
She is very clear when she teaches. Copy down everything she writes during class and study those and the practice exam and you'll get an A. Don't get the textbook, I didn't use it once. Easy A if you come to class and write down notes.
Come to class. Copy the notes. Do aplia. Memorize notes. Get an A. Its not hard as long as you put in the time. She makes understanding the basics of macroeconomics manageable.
She comes off kind of strict in the first class but it is actually very nice. Just go to every lecture because that's the only way you get the notes. Then you only have to memorize the notes (which she formats for you) for the test. No textbook reading necessary. Aplia once a week. Not too bad. Easy compared to micro and I learned a lot more!
Gina taught in a way most students could comprehend. She was available for help often.
Gina made herself very available to answer questions both through Moodle and in person. Her expectations are made super clear for the course and she presents subject matter clearly. She is very passionate about what she does and extremely knowledgeable.
Great proff, very straight forward but don't let that intimidate you. If you did well in ECON 1101 then this shouldn't be any more difficult. As long as you attend lecture and DO THE PRACTICE MIDTERMS you'll get a solid grade no issue. Also you don't use the text book so don't even buy it unless you want it for Aplia
She's okay, if you put in the effort you can get an A. She is a little into herself, but overall solid.
Great prof, would take the course again from her.
Gina is extremely clear in what is expected of you in the class. Receiving anything less than an A in this class is your own fault. The practice midterms are almost identical to the tests. Go to lectures, don't read, get an A.
Go to class, take notes, do the simple homework, and do the practice tests. That's all you need to do to get an excellent grade.
As long as you have lecture notes regardless you sit on the lecture or not and study lecture notes, you will easily get an A.
Gina is smart, but slightly unapproachable. The tests are hard to finish in the 50 minute time slot.
She gives great explanations. Additionally, she is rally helpful if you go to and ask her questions after the class or during office hours.
Gina is very clear on what she expects of her students. Study the lecture notes. Do the practice exams. Get an A.
Do the homework and ou will get an A
If you show up to class she will give you each and every problem you will encounter on the exam.
Tests are a memorization test. Memorize the notes and the practice tests, you'll do well.
Dr. Pieters is very clear, consistent, and helpful. Went in knowing nothing about Economics and now have a pretty solid grasp of the fundamentals of Micro. The tests difficult to finish in the allowed time, but with the homework grades you can get an A- with only moderate to light effort. Great in office hours too!
Econ is hard for most of us, she makes it very easy to get an A at Trinity. Grading rubric is forgiving, you can screw up. Go to class, she tells you EXACTLY what you need for tests. Office hours were helpful, she is very sweet. You do not need the book at all, she teaches everything. Take good notes and make sure you understand before tests
She is very good at explaining stuff and always available for office hours. If you do well on either the homework or the exams, you will be able to do fairly well in the course. She doesn't use the textbook which is nice, and attendance is not mandatory, but I would highly recommend going.
The class is not an easy A but if you study your homeworks, class notes, and the practice exam you should be okay for tests.
This class is certainly not an easy A, but I loved it. Dr. Pieters is very nice and always willing to help, but she won't just give you the answers to your questions. She makes you think for them. She also doesn't use the textbook, which I personally love.
She is a wonderful professor! She gives amazing notes in class and is very helpful in office hours if you show enthusiasm. The tests are hard and you have to work extremely quickly, but I feel that everything put on the tests is very similar to the notes she gives in class. I definitely recommend her as a professor for this course
Dr. Pieters is not the easiest teacher, but she is fair, straightforward, and easy to understand. She holds plenty of office hours, too. I had her for microecon, and would like to point out that the textbook is not really necessary. She will tell you this at the start of that class.
Dr. Pieters is an amazing professor! Her homework assignments are difficult but she is super helpful in office hours. Class is interesting and she is super nice and funny.
Dr. Pieters is excellent! I love that she is such a fair grader, and tells it like it is. She allows you and expects her students to think deeply about social issues and world issues, and how they can been viewed in the perspective of economics-- which in my opinion has been the absolute bet part of the class. She is very helpful too when you ask!
One of the best if not the best professor at Trinity. Her class is very hard, but be persistent, go to office hours and do your homework and you will succeed. Do not let her intimidate you. I think she secretly gets a lot of joy from watching her students squirm, but she is always pulling for your success.
Gina is a great professor and you will learn a lot, however, her tests are all short answer and very confusing to even the best students. She grades extremely hard and if you don't make an effort to go to office hours or seek outside help YOU WILL NOT PASS. That being said, she is a great professor I will just not take economics with her again.
Do not take Dr. Pieters, she is completely unsympathetic and robotic. Does not care about your grade nor will do anything to help you. You do the work, take the tests, and that is your grade. Office hours do not help much, she is rude and honestly doesn't care about you or your grade.
Dr. Pieters is a great professor who makes you learn a lot of material and work hard for your grade. Expect hard exams, and be prepared for weekly homework assignments. Go to office hours for help, she is super nice and helpful if you take the time to get help.
Dr. Pieters will try to scare you away the first day of class, DON'T let it happen! Her class is tough, but you will learn the most real-world, applicable information. Her homework is really tough, but she is more than happy to work with you for as long as it takes in office hours. One test and the students write the questions! One long paper.
Dr. Pieters is very knowledgeable and does a great job teaching and making sure you understand what is covered in class.
Dr. Pieters was a great professor. I liked that she would apply our class to the real world. She was pretty intimidating, and she will not just give you the answers in office hours. There was one homework assignment per week and the work load was fairly manageable, but the material itself can be confusing. I would take Dr. Pieters again.
