At first I thought the class was very difficult especially since chemistry is not my strongest subject but I must say that with hard work and dedication you can get an A in the class. She is extremely helpful and very approachable. We had online homework that was due prior to lecture so it kind of helped in getting familiar with the material.
Dr. Clark is alright. I suggest studyign with groups of people from 130. and read the book for the biochem portion
This class is fairly hard but if you study and go to tutoring you can get an A. it's all up to the student. Dr. Clark and the T.A's have many office hours if you need help. make sure you complete the online homework as well.
Difficult class, I'm not going to lie. I would suggest going to her office hours and going to lecture since she doesn't do lecture capture. This class will prepare you, that's for sure. Study, study, study and it IS possible to get an A. Good luck.
Dr. Clark is an amazing professor. If you take the time to learn the material and got to her for help, you will get an A. She is super enthusiastic and it seems like she truly cares for her students. By far, one of my favorite professors at UIC
I'm glad that I took this course even though it was difficult at times! take it! it will be worth it. it gets better and better (not saying class will get easier, but you will get better at understanding the material!)
I didn't do so hot in her class but i think if i was given a second chance i'd definitely do better. I was one of those that took too long to go to her office hours so by then it was too late. Get help ASAP! She's helpful, i'll give her that. Material was difficult. Tests are difficult. Grading scale is what allowed me to pass (60=C, 70=B, 80=A)
Prof Clark is an amazing teacher. She thoroughly explains everything u need to know. Going to her and TAs office hour REALLY helps. This class is not hard especially now that u can rewatch lectures on Echo. Just practice the problems and be able to explain the bio portion and u should be good.
Practice problems! Practice problems! Practice problems! Learn your functional groups and products and conditions for reactions early on. The professor is amazing! She has gone above and beyond any other teacher I have had at UIC. Responds quick to emails and concerns. Always willing to help. Uses Iclicker/ critical thinking. I read every chapter.
BEST PROFESSOR AT UIC EVER!! This class is hard but prof. Clark is so helpful if you attend office hours.I hated chemistry and got a 'C' in Chem 112 but got an 'A' in her class. TAKE HER AND STUDY STUDY!
Class is difficult but the curve is great. If the whole class does bad then they'll pass in the end because that's how good the curve is. I got an A and I put a lot of time into this stuff. Can't pass w/o studying. Would recommend.
Very good class. Can seem quite intimidating to begin with but she's incredibly nice and helpful. Go to her office hours if you don't understand something. Always very willing to help. If you want an A in this class, studying is a must. Go to lectures and make sure you take good notes in class.
I really don't know how Dr. Clark received such good ratings. I honestly thought she was a horrible professor. She went over the difficult material too fast, and went over the easier material slower. I went to office hours and did not find her helpful at all. I taught myself the material the whole semester.
This class is very good! Not as hard as people make it seem. Personally I could've done better if I would have put in a lot of effort. Dr. Clarck moves to fast during lectures. She's not really organized so it is HIGHLY recommended to go to office hours! The Book is only useful for the biochem section of the course.
I enjoyed her class very much and thought it went pretty smooth. If you like chemistry, you'll be fine. I never bought the book, because all you had to do was listen to lectures and do practice worksheets. But also remember to study the labs for exams. Passed it with flying colors.
ok professor, she moved pretty fast on the material but she offers to stop and ask questions. ( i suggest you stop and ask her questions if not she'll move on) she didnt do much i clickers. you have to remember to keep up with the surveys and online homeworks. Class was overall good i got a B and missed out on half the hw, so anyone can pass.
Dr. Clark is super knowledgable and passionate about chemistry, and it shows in her class! She is super helpful and generous with points and clarifications. I believe she is the only CHEM130 instructor, but do not worry about that. Show effort and interest and you will be fine!
She lectured with clear notes and explanations. Homework was useless. Real exams were more difficult than practice papers.
I took Dr. Clark's class fall 2017. Trust me she is not a great professor. All she does is walk around with her microphone and says ask me questions, instead of teaching the material. I wish she can spend time teaching more and explaining the concept more, most of the students were so confused including me. I did not like her at all.
She is so bad at teaching. I had to teach myself the materials. I am so sorry If you have to take her this spring. Good Luck.
She is the worst professor I've had by far. Every week there's a new packet and she expects you to complete it in class- BUT SHE NEVER TEACHES YOU HOW TO DO THE PROBLEMS. her exams are nothing like the study guides you're given, she NEVER puts grades up, and she's always contradicting herself. No words to describe the frustration you go through.
Worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of knowing. She might as well have put thermodynamics on our exams because her exams did not reflect material that was "taught" in class. Absolutely awful professor. If you don't have high blood pressure now, you will after taking her class. I'd rather cut my own leg off than take her class again.
in Fall of 2017. In her class, she does tend to rush through materials (it is Organic and Biochem mashed into one class) fast because the class is fast paced. Coming to class is REALLY important. You miss one day, you might as well miss the entire course. Exams are tough, but labs are very easy. She is the only Chem130 professor at UIC, good luck.
I never seen a professsor scamble through material so quickly. She didnt try to teach the class!! All she provided was worksheets that made no sense what so ever. Her final for the fall 2017 was nothing like her study guide and really messed up with a bunch of studnets. Would never take her again!
She couldnt teach. Period Youll be expected to do worksheet every lecture and shell expect u to know them already so she can just skim though it. She doesnt explain well, I would advice to go to tutoring. Final was difficult. Little iclicker. Labs were annoying.
Bad reviews are on point. Every class she would just give worksheet and you basically have to teach yourself. I couldn't avoid taking her as shes the only avail. I was so frustrated throughout the whole semester. You won't learn a thing in lecture, TA was better. Every student I spoke to was soo lost. She should use power point and use wk as hw.
poor communication and organizational skills If possible, take the other option for the chemistry professor.
Not the best teacher and comes off as rude, not the best people skills. However, you can teach yourself for the class and avoid on-on-one professor time.
quality of teaching is mediocre
You have to teach yourself the material. The lectures are not clear and are disorganized
an overall bad professor and teaching style
Worst professor I ever had along with TA. You can study constantly for this test and still feel unprepared. She always comes up with crazy questions and she claims that this class challenges you to think abstractly, which is true. Be prepared to feel like an idiot because I just cried throughout this whole semester. She has no teaching skill.
Her teaching style is with worksheets; she doesn't use powerpoint but they are available in BB. She wants you to work with your peers, which I think isn't the best. If you go to her office hrs, you get to learn a lot; I think she's better at explain one-on-one. There's a lot of extra credit. Exams and quizzes are fair. Just put in the effort!
If you struggle with chemistry itself you will most definetely struggle with this course. One on one teaching is more useful and easier to understand. During lecture she rambles and moves on when most of the students don't understand. She knows the material but confuses herself constantly during lecture. Hard class but extra credit will save you.
I think she is a decent professor and is very caring. She has definitely improved
Theres many extra credit opportunities and she has many tools on blackboard to help students
She is very disorganized if you want to get a good grade you must attend office hours to understand the material. She teaches by giving out worksheets that you do during class. Lab's are okay they aren't too bad. And when studying for exams/quizzes do not just use the review packet, she will put harder questions that you have barley gone through.
Clark is an alright professorZ she gives study guides that resemble tests and quizzes . However, TAs are much better than the professor as dr Clark moves too fast in lecture and its so hard to follow along. Clark expects us to know many stuff by ourself and she just goes over it briefly making it very hard. The hardest was the biology part.
This class was very tough. The labs were super hard and this professor didn't teach she just gave out worksheets. I got an A because I would seek help from TA but honest5ly I feel sorry for all you that have to take her. She is nice but the class overall is a pain. Good luck just good luck with labs. Exams are decent. Please don't cheat using chegg
Doesn't teach at all - just goes through worksheets that only make sense to her. She doesn't have good people skills and comes off as rude and uncaring. She does not care if you feel lost - expects you to keep moving forward. My TA was always confused about what was going on - not communicative. Would never take this class again.
would never take chem with this professor. She doesnt explain thing clearly and if you ask her a question she gives you the most vague explanation or just the answer which isnt helpful at all. She rushes things and gets annoyed if students cant catch on. She cant explain and often confuses herself as well. Does everything off worksheets
She is lazy with her teaching and does not explain well. Definitely don't recommend her class but oh well she's the only professor that teaches this class.
"Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique..." -Lady Gaga. These are words I'd use to describe Dr. Clark and this class becauseI learned so much. This class is hard, no other way around it. If you put in the effort you will learn so many amazing skills that will help you succeed.
This class is difficult because the exams are not very like the practice. If you continually go to office hours, the material makes sense and you will get the hang of it. I had to go to office hours multiple times a week because chemistry is hard for me to grasp. She offers extra credit on tests and for going to events. Seek help outside of class.
Not a super difficult class, but Dr. Clark is disorganized; class taught through packets. Coursework includes 3 exams (resembles study guide exactly), labs (3 lowest dropped), discussion (my TA never checked for completion), quizzes (4 lowest dropped), iclicker, sapling (lowest 4 dropped). DONT buy the book; all info from her class packets.
She can struggle during lectures, she can get nervous, which does hinder learning, but the book and the insane amount of homework could make up for that. The lab made this feel like 2 classes that don't really mesh well together, and both were weighed pretty equal. Kind of a mess of a class, but as long as you put in the work, an A was doable
Sweetest chem professor ever! There's a LOT of work to do here even for a 4 credit class, we're talking gen chem levels. 60% of the grade is coursework while a whopping 40% is labs, so make sure you're up to speed with both. I recommend reading the book as well.
Horrible professor, was very disorganized in every lecture and lab, gave a ton of homework, very hard-to-read notes, and didnt explain concepts well
Way too much homework and she cannot really explain simple concepts but makes everything confusing.
Way too much work since she'll cover one or even two chapters a week (which is a total of two lectures a week) and she cannot explain simple concepts such that she even confused me about stuff I knew before class from gen chem. Do NOT take her if you have the chance!!!!!!!
I was scared to take this class, because I dont like chemistry. However, Dr. Clark made the class so much easier to understand, and shes super sweet and understanding. You definitely have to work hard to understand the harder organic/ biochem concepts, but shes always willing to go over the topics and questions you need more clarification with!
The class sounds intimidating at first, but fear not, because Dr. Clark will ensure that you understand the concepts before the assessment! Shes more than willing to clarify and answer your questions, and shes super sweet. Her teaching style makes organic chem easier to understand! Although chem is daunting, she tries her best to help students:)
Pretty easy. Class is a intro to organic chemistry and biochemistry. If something is confusing there's so many resources online. She's a bit timid but a caring professor.
Dr. Clark is an amazing professor! This class is easy if you do the pre lecture worksheets before class and put in the effort.
Not that great of a professor. The lectures are confusing and seem like there are 'winged' every time. Lots and lots of busywork. The class isn't necessarily hard but it is ridiculously time-consuming. The professor extends due dates a lot and there is extra credit. Rubrics are rarely provided and grading is harsh.
never responds to my emails, completely depends on your TA. not too bad not too easy, just watch the pre-lecture videos
1. Always do the PreLecture Vids 2. Dont buy the textbook (trust) 3. If able, go in person, less awk and she's more helpful 4. Overall a nice professor, sometimes instructions on sheets are mixed up/unclear 5. No tests, weekly "assessments" 6. She will repeat anything you find unclear 7. Do hw/pre labs on weekends not mondays 8. a lab is dropped:)
Dr. Clark was a good Chemistry professor. She was kind and respectful during lectures, even though my class was very quiet. The homework and labs are not difficult but you should make sure to reach out for extra help if needed. Rewatching lectures were a key component in my success in this class.
Prof Clark is so unorganized. Her lectures are always unrehearsed. She makes her own exams/quizzes and they're absolutely terrible. She words everything super confusingly and adds so much unnecessary information to the problems. The labs are pretty decent tho bc the TA's are good. Her midterm is take-home so that helps at least.
Absolutely useless and disorganized. She is the only one who teaches this class, so my condolences. Teach yourself and rely on labs because they are the biggest portion of the class. She mumbles words under her nose and expects you to come to class after watching recorded videos for chapters. Will only do 1-2 examples. I stopped attending class.
This professor mumbles through lectures is completely on organized, does not go through problems with the class. And just expect students to be on the same page when she presents new concepts. You will be teaching yourself everything!! 0-10
Her lectures are really disorganized and gets off topic a lot in lectures so be prepared to teach yourself.. When you go to her outside of class for help, she'll either give you an answer that wasn't even your question, or just give you an explanation that doesn't make sense. But class is curved at end of semester.
Her lectures are not very organized. A lot of the time she doesn't know what she is explaining. Some days it is very rushed, but other times it is very slow. We had to cover a lot of the content last minute because we were behind. It is better teaching yourself. The class is curved at the end of the semester.
She can be generous during the term, but doesn't answer emails on time and tends to forget a lot of thingS. S he shouldn't teach the course.
Lots of work for this class. labs are worth half the grade so be sure to do good on lab reports and the labs (get a good TA, it will make a difference). Lectures were okay , sometimes I wasn't able to understand her. She drops quite a few grades so those help.
This professor is kind in person and will help you out if you reach out (preferably in person). Actually listen in class because that is the best time to ask specific questions. Make friends bc they can help out a lot with the labs. Her homework is on achieve, it's graded based on correct answers, and trust me YOU WANNA START IT EARLY to do well.
She does not explain concepts well, hard to follow her lectures because she keeps making mistakes which makes you doubt her credibility, ineloquent, and is confusing. I did better watching organic chemistry tutor for the exams than attending lectures. Her lecture slides are not helpful and are poorly organized.
Always makes mistakes, cannot read her handwriting, she doesn't even want to teach and its very obvious. Runs through content like we already know it and just all over is not a good professor, do not take her, save yourself.
Runs through content like we already know it and just all over the place and is not a good professor, do not take her. Doesnt explain very good and the lecture is not very organized.
she tries to be funny but NO it doesnt work , monotonous lecture
Clarks lectures are unorganized as can be. It's hard to follow along and you end up going to watch videos on youtube to learn. As I am writing this I am in her lecture and stopped listening as she throws over 20 I-clickers at the entire lecture within a minute and a half where we cannot even answer a majority of them.
Professor Clark is a very caring professor and overall is one of the best professors at the UIC Chem department which notoriously is known to be tragically horrible. Love all her demos and even though the class itself is difficult due to exams, she wants you to learn and always take questions. Overall, recommend, and she speaks clearly too.
Professor Clark is a great professor who cares if you learn and wants you to remain interested during lecture. Reviews before exams and clearly speaks during lectures. I would take it again since the only downside is your whole grade is the four exams which will bring your GPA down if you don't do well on them. Good luck!
The instructor can be confusing with brief explanations so recommend taking notes. Beware of technical issues with assignments; if you encounter them there is often no compromise to be made to receive the credit. I highly recommend asking the TAs for help if you need it in this course, they are eager to help and explain concepts.
For being from the UIC chem department, not bad at all. Very lively in class and always takes questions. She does want you to actually learn the concepts. Other than those atrocious exams that are the department's fault, she is a great professor for chemistry and more importantly, she speaks clearly enough to understand her.
Professer clark is a nice person overall and she does care about her students. I just felt like the class was boring and unorganized. I felt like I was behind the whole semester and had to teach myself. I wish she was more organized like a slideshow or something because it was hard to follow along. the exam review problems do help tho!
Very disorganized. Doesn't respond to emails. Lectures are all over the place and is very confusing.
Clark is just not it. The material isn't too difficult, but her teaching is incredibly disorganized. Sometimes when shes lecturing she will do it as if shes asking the class for assurance. I can tell shes a great person in general, but shes been teaching this class for years, how are you still so bad at it? Do well in labs & you should be fine tho.
there is so many things i can say but im only allowed 350 characters but whether it was forgetfullness or sometimes her incompetence during the summer 2024 chem122 session she needs to change a lot with her own teaching and how she runs a summer class never seen a professor who never responds to emails or who is this forgetful
I'm concerned about Professor Ginevra Clark teaching. Lectures lack structure, often off-topic. Office hours are rarely helpful. Grading is inconsistent and lacks feedback. These issues hinder learning. Please address to improve the course quality. She seems lazy, and grading is inconsistent with very bad feedback. Very low-quality Professor.
Her lectures are meandering and boring, and it seems like she has no clue what is even going on half the time. This class isn't that difficult, but the grading is very harsh and unclear, with both her and TAs taking off points for minor things. This class takes a lot of time and effort, and unfortunately, she is the only one who teaches it.
can't read and doesn't know what she is teaching will read a problem and then not explain it, also skips questions a lot
Professor Clark did not care about the material she would teach. None of the lectures were engaging; it was always going over a worksheet in which, yes, she would explain calculations step by step at the bare minimum, but would never actually apply the meaning of what we were learning. Prepare to teach yourself once again.
Worst professor ever. Teaching is the worst and covers a section that's one the exam for 10 min and she's done. Would NOT recommend
I just don't like her lectures, they are only 50 minutes and she skims through everything. Does the work for us. She cares for students but refused to let me submit something a day later because I had something going on at home and made me neglect it. Chemistry is hard, be prepared to do the work and learning yourself. This should just be online.
Clark is a terrible lecturer. She is bad at helping, preparing you for exams. Once, she straight up skipped an exam review question because people were talking in her class. Everybody I ask says that her lectures are unintelligible, and most of her students end up going to Hatfield's class so they can experience a real lecture.
Although CHEM 122 is rough for students in general, Clark was just one giant headache of a professor. Her lectures are boring, she gets off track quickly, and you're better off teaching yourself.. Her emails are horrendous and she forgets how to count... The one good thing she does occasionally is mention what's on future exams. Avoid if possible.
Clark is a joke of a professor. Although Gen Chem 1 is a relatively easy class, she makes it way harder than it has to be. She's horrible at responding to emails and even worse at providing help. She often gets distracted and sidetracks in her lectures. You're better off with a different professor, and if their sections are filled, CHATGPT can help
Does not know how to teach. Not structured or oganized. If you ask a question. She will tell you to read the book. No powerpoints. Only copies and pastes pictures and paragraphs from book to her sheets that we had to learn from. Doesn't teach everything you need to know. DON'T take her. She whispers alot and we cant hear
Doesn't care about her students. She doesn't know what she's talking about most of the time. Her lectures are pointless. Cant hear her because she's so quiet. She says she's there to ask for help but when you do, she says to look at the book, and that all the answers are there. Will avoid emails. Avoid her at all costs.
Analytical chemistry was not difficult concept-wise, but the professor's handling of the course made the class less enjoyable overall. Dr. Clark was really nice during face-to-face interaction, but she was very difficult to reach outside of class. The coursework is very lab-heavy, and the difficulty was compounded by often unclear grading criteria.
Gigantic headache. She was very useless when it came to learning. her lectures are just copy and pastes of the book. Learn chem by urself in ur in her class champ.
She doesn't explain and just rushes through all the material saying there's “no time”.
Very interesting teacher. She sucks at teaching you might as well just learn on your own.
The class was hard but if you go to office hours she's helpful. Also the way the class is structured helps us out, there are a good amount of points outside the tests only. There is a lot of work though.
she gives lots of examples, especially mathematical ones. we also got a lot of iclickers, which i liked because it kinda forced me to pay attention. however, i was peeved by how many times she'd say we don't have time for something, and how many slides she skipped. also she's not the best at email responses (never got a response to one i sent)
.... Do not take this class. Her lectures are sooooo bad her notes are literally so unhelpful. She seems so disorganized. She seems like a nice person but as a professor she is lacking in a few ways. Seriously if u take this class prepare to just learn on your own. The notes are literallyy like screenshots off the textbook or something.
she doesnt care about students at all, rushes through slides, skips literally every single slide and doesn't know what she's saying half the time. shes so unorganized and doesn't try to help students
I think that she's a nice person but just not a good teacher. She would speed through all the material, give so much homework, did not explain things properly whatsoever. She would always look off another device when she was teaching so it didn't give me much hope to be confident in what I'm doing if she was looking off of another device to teach.
She's nice but doesn't put in effort to teach. She's always distracted, always messing up, super unorganized. She's not helpful in office hours, rushes through everything, and isn't clear about anything at all. She skips half the slides, and her slides aren't helpful; they are straight from a book, making it impossible to get an A in this class.
She's so unorganized and doesn't care about her students at all. She'll act like she does, but she doesn't show that. coming from a 4.0 student, this class was made impossible to get an A with the curve she gave . this class is all self-taught
They know what they are teaching and how to explain the content material to the students. I highly admire this teacher and wish I could have her as my professor for every class.
Don't think her rating here is representative of her as a teacher. As far as chemistry teachers go, she's definitely on the better end. She's very lenient when it comes to grading, often giving free clicker points and tries to ensure everyone understands the topics but she can only do so little with as big as the class size is. The rest is on you.
Clark is difficult, she does go through her notes pretty quickly. This class is achievable to pass, study extra hard for her exams, watching orgochemtutor really helps. Make sure you understand the topic before you come to lectures as she expects you to know it. Pretty homework heavy, assigns about 3 assignments per week. Use office hours!!
Nothing bad to say about this professor however lectures can be boring sometimes. The material isn't super hard but if YOU don't put in the work it will become difficult. I would recommend doing the readings. There is homework due every Monday plus supplemental graded activities due on Friday. It may seem like a lot but it's a normal chem class.
Had her for Chem 122. Honestly, she is unorganized in terms of lecture and I for one thought that her teaching style was rushed and confusing. Furthermore, during lecture she'll ask if anyone has questions, people will say yes, then she'll completely disregard it and move on, assuming that we will figure it out eventually. Probably getting a B.
She was very rude to me when I went to her office hours regarding a problem with homework site. She told me to just drop the class. She was very unhelpful and went against what we had agreed on with my advisor. She is very unorganized and is even too lazy to make her own slides so she just uses the book. She also goes off topic every 2 minutes.
attended every class and did not benefit except for clickers. waste of time and messed up my gpa.
You'd think that I'd have to call upon the supernatural to help me get through this class. Unorganized, test heavy, and such vague explanation of material. You're better off letting the textbook teach you than sitting in a lecture hall for an entire hour and learn absolutely JACK.
I'm taking her bike away bruh 💔
Was okay. A little unorganized. Better at teaching in a one-on-one setting. Loves clickers. To get a decent grade on the test, go through each exam pointer.
