The man with the plan! Just as long as the plan's in the textbook because otherwise, he's lost! Favorite response: "Look, it's like I already told you!"
Presents the material in a straightforward way; curves if necessary.
1 midterm and 1 final, curves each exam if need be, gave extra credit, after the curving of the exams your grade in the class is the avg of both exams. He gets confused really easily its funny, but he's one of the easiest Finance profs in this school!
He was so terrible. His course was so boring - only teaching by the textbook. He always copies solutions from the solution book, and that's fine. But, he even could not copy answers correctly.
How can anyone give this man a poor rating. He is super easy. Exam questions are straight forward and he curves to boot!! In class he makes lots of mistakes but if you are paying attention you understand the gist of what he is explaining.
Professor Harpaz is great at explaining tough concepts, especially if you are new to finance. His exams are 25 MC's and he curves by 16 points to each one. My grade was curved from a B to an A-, literally. He is really one of the best professors in the department at Baruch!!!
He was okay. I screwed up my schedule to take him, but I didn't find him easy at all. He may be better than the other professors, but he is NOT by any means easy. His exams are hard. 3 exams. He does curve though.
wasn't a big fan of this guy. he encouraged me to stay in the class after i failed the first test rather than drop the class before it was too late. then he failed me anyway. jerk. i took the class over with professor katz, who was very good, and managed to get a B in the class and yes I did manage
The post below has to be an IDIOT to fail a class with Harpaz. He's super-easy.
Tough grader, will work with you, he is not sympathetic to students who work full time and go to school part time.Probobly your best bet for this riduluous weeding out type of class, got a B- , way to much work for this lousy grade
He is a good professor, if this is your first finance class. He spends a lot of time explaining concepts and does a lot of questions in class, although he can be a bit repeatitive. Easy exam, easy grader, easy A.
this prof is so hard its not even funny! if you want to kill ur GPA then go right ahead take this prof! Very hard to understand and has attitude towards you! FINAL WAS SO HARD! didn't learn anything throughout the semester!
NO NO AND NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Prof Harpaz is one of the best profs for the fin 4710. If you read the book and have a good "formula sheet" during the exam - it's an easy "A". All you gotta do is read the chapters. All test questions are based on the book. Doesn't take attendance at all. I just went to class for the 3 exams and got an A.
It seems that students or extremely dislike this professor or really like him. I think he is a great professor. He uses many interesting examples in class and not just dry material from the book. His tests are fair and even easy.
This class is very important to Fin. major.Definatelly take this professor. You will learn plenty(theory and problem solving)that is actually used in the Real world.Exams are straight out from notes and book, not hard at all. He allows to bring 1cheat sheet + he curves but you wont need it. Easy A!!!!
Outstanding instructor who will teach you how to survive in the professional world of Finance. I took him for an entry level Finance course and I learned so much that I hope I can take him for the more advanced finance courses. He is also very available if you have questions or need extra help. I highly reccomend him to all finance majors.
LIke someone said very unhelpful. Makes you think that the test is going to be easy but it's not. No a good prof. if you're a finance major cuz you won't understand the concepts for the future. Very discouraging and belittles his students.
Very unclear and belittles students...discourages them to ask questions..even if you ask a question..he will go on with his "theory in progress" and would put you in an awkward position. Exams are tricky! highly not recommended to any finance major.
GREAT professor. Interesting lectures, good sense of humor, helpful. I had no interest in finance before taking it, and loved the class.
This guy has to be the easiest after Onochie, he might not seem friendly, but he's the best for 4710. No term papers, no homeworks, just read the damn book and come to class. He gives three exams (three chapters per exam), goes over problems before the exams. i failed the first exam and still pulled a B+ in the class. Go figure!!!!!!!1
OH MY GOD, whoever says he is a great professor must be related to him. He is one of the worst prof I have EVER had (under/grad). Does not answer students questions due to selective hearing and cannot complete his own examples. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO LEARN.
Avoid like plague if you can. He reads from powerpoint slides & copies answers from his cheatsheet. He is always late, his speach is blurred, hearing impared and none of the questions students asked were answered properly since he can't hear. Allows a cheat sheet & curves the grades so results don't look as bad as they would, due to his bad teaching.
Its sham at Baruch, its very disconcerting that we pay thousands of dollars for each course & we get a professor who can't talk, can't teach, can't hear & is arrogant & gets defensive (may be that he suffers from inferiority complex) & is very unwilling to accommodate anyones request for a chat if we, the students who pay his salary, have any quest
Prof Harpaz was the worst prof that I had in my MBA program at Baruch. He should not be teaching at all.Its a torture to sit there and hear him read the powerpoint notes word to word and then copy answers on the board from his cheat sheet. He does not solve a single problem without looking at his cheat sheet. Also doesn't answer since he can't hear.
Prof. Harpaz is a shame to Baruch MBA program. He reads off the slides, copies answers in the board and he is the only prof. who answers his cell phone during the class multiple times. He is always late, very confused, hearing impared and has blurred speech. Avoid if you can but you might not be able to avoid him so good luck, may God save you.
Yes, not the best prof at Baruch but if grades are all you care about, then just read the friggin book, do the problems at the end of the chapters and prepare a detailed cheat sheet. It's that simple folks. Every school has a few duds, even Baruch.
Provides theory and examples in class. Assists with resolution.
He's the man! All the previous comments must be from dorks that don't know anything. His classes are fun and easy to understand. He knows his stuff, and his exams are very fair. You can always learn and have a good time at the same time. He should be your first choice for this class!
Esay A if you study on your own and read the book. You end up getting easy exams, but do not count too much on the lectures. He reads from slides a lot and does end of chapter problems by copying them from solutions manual. Once again easy A
Harp the Herald Angels Sing ---- That is all I sang in his class. I think someone beat him up because he had a wristguard ---- that should have been a clue. But all in all --- he gave me an A --- But I must warn you that I am a genius!
Great professor, very approachable, knows his material well, would take more classes with him!
I think these undergrad "dorks" as well as "geniuses" must be as slow as the prof. to understand him. I took him for an MBA class FIN 9770 & he was terrible. Worst ever. I have 8 years of experience as an analyst at a firm on Wall Street and I can teach the darn class 100 times better than him. I didn't learn anything & he was just plain annoying.
Sarcastic, but pretty easy exams, and exams are based on class notes. He is probably the best for 4710!
The person before me was so true. This prof. is really bad. Hope his other hand also breaks soon. It was such a torture to sit through his class. He can't hear, can't talk clear, answers cell phone calls during the class, its just beyond me how anyone can like him. As the person said, you gotta be slow like him to like him. FIRE HIM.
If all you're looking for is an easy A, take him. Then read the textbook & make a good cheat sheet. You don't really get anything extra from attending class. If you actually want to learn or want to attend an interesting class, then he is NOT for you. I was constantly looking at the clock.
easy but if you want to learn - not a good choice. attend only a few classes before te tests. go through hws and make a good cheat sheet. "A" guaranteed
In one word he is "terrible". Forget about learning anything, you just might forget what you knew before you got to his class. His nick name is "slurpy". He stinks, drools & has slurred speech. Avoid like a rotten rat.
Great professor, very helpful when you get to know him, pure genius
"No one can walk out the classroom without knowing how to calculate..." so no one can walk out the classroom with a grade of B or below.
Great professor! He explains the subject very clearly. Super funny, too. He is hard of hearing, so don't take it personal if he ignored you in class. He is sarcastic sometimes, but he is actually a nice guy. Strongly recommend.
great teacher- everything on the test taught in class, made it seem like it was all common sense. very funny too
Very easy going prof. Took him in the summer. 2 mc exams, no surprises on the test. No need to go to class, no attendence. Easy A. Made the course very interesting and simple.
I thought he did a very good job covering the material and building a solid foundation. His tests are fair, as is his grading. One note: I tok this in the summer and it is probably best suited for a regular semester.
I think this is a core for us Finance majors? I barely remember what we studied for 6 weeks but that being said, it is what it is - boring but helpful basics of CF's and NPV calculations, etc.(which I didn't forget). The professor forces you to learn to use your calculator (which is very helpful) and doesn't take attendance and lets you use a formu
Excellent professor. Very funny, very enlightening and entertaining. Very easy going and makes finance fun and easy. Mid-term and a final. Some number of short summaries of articles. Very lenient and very fair. Pleasure to be in his class.
Great proffessor! very funny and easy going, explains the material very well. The mid term and final are not hard- as long as you read the book and do the sample q's. The best for 4610! oh, and attendance is not manadatory...
Took summer class with him. I wish I had this class during the regular semester. Very good professor. Decent and helpful.
worst prof, avoid if you can. If you can't avoid, pray to GOD & try not to fall asleep in the class. Rude & nast man....all I got to say to him is ....you suck giora
Testes are hard, curve only little. Don;t ruin you GPA if you take him
He's a nice guy. Gives out homework every week. All homeworks and exams are done and graded as a group, so be sure you form your group with good people, not lazy ****s. Communication with him is hard sometimes because he answers a completely question than the one you asked.
Professor Harpaz is a good teacher. If you are not interested in finance, the class is boring, but that is not the professor's fault. He comes across as crass, but overall he is a nice guy (even funny). He uses class time for review before every test. The study guide and end of chapter questions from the text helped study for exams.
He is a nice guy, yes. But deep down, he doesn't really understand what he is teaching. Exams are from the textbook. So, if you know your stuff, you'll get an A. But dont ask him challenging questions, he'll try to give a whack answer and switch topics - not Intellectually honest. If you really want to learn, take someone else.
He is a good & competent Prof. Humorous at times. only problem is that sometimes he can't think from others perspectives. When questioned, he'll answer what he thought was asked rather than what was actually asked, so u need to ask in a way he can understand. I learned & enjoyed his class. He reminded me that mathematician from A Beautiful Mind.
I would say with confidence Professor Harpaz is the best professor in the Finance department at Baruch. His explanations flawless, his personal interest in students' success unmatched and his exams are the most reasonable i have ever seen. I'll make this simple: if you deserve to be a Finance major at Baruch College, you WILL GET AN A with Harpaz.
Not a fan. Very harsh and not compationate. Made it very difficult to meet and discuss problems. Office hours are only as he posts - if you work full-time, good luck! He will not meet you at any other time other than office hours. Did not learn a thing. Buy the study guide if you take him - VERY helpful
He was unyieldingly excellent. His class was never tedious, he was provocative, hilarious and produced a conduvice learning environment. If you are a serious finance major (one who wants to LEARN), you will ascertain an A with no hindrance. If you aren't, you will miserably fail his course.
He knows everything in finance field. Really like to listen to him in class. I learned a lot. Try to do the end-chapter questions, and u will be fine.
Prof. Harpaz repeats nearly word for word what is in the textbook chapter. He is, however, capable of explaining the content in other ways if requested. His class is a little boring and not very challenging but I still learned the matter. His mid-term and final were take home, group assignments.
horrible prof, picks phone during class, deaf and very unclear in his speach delivery. Avoid at all costs & if you have to take his class.....good luck.
Worst prof. that Baruch has. Terrible teaching skill. Copies his cheat sheet onto the board & if you ask any question, he doesn't answer (he is deaf). Also indecent and always late to class.
I barely passed but not the professor's fault. He is very much into his element and makes it as interesting as finance can possibly get. He is a good professor and worth taking. Facts: No attendance, 3 exams, no extra credit work but material is OK. One more thing: He's a bit hard of hearing so don't take it personal if he doesn't answer, speak up.
I think he is a great professor-really loves finance! Sometimes hegoes off on a tangent but he talks about things going on in the world that relate to what he teaches.Students were very rude in the class-he is hard of hearing that is not funny! The calculation quest on his test are a joke, but the concept 1s can be a bit tricky.Highly recommended!
I was skeptical at first, but this guy turned out to be one of my top 3 professors at Baruch. He covered a decent amount of material. His explanations were very clear (sometimes a bit lengthy). He even threw in some tasteful non-cheesy-professor humor. If you have the option, take him.
He is my best professor in Baruch. Just Took it in summer. Give extra credit project and generous curve in exams. After taking him, you not only learn the material, but also you are able to sing it as well......
To be honest, he is not that great of a professor. However, he does keep his word when it comes to curving the grades and very lenient towards your final grade. I would suggest if you are just planning to pass the class.
I really liked this professor. He explains everything very well, goes over examples in class which will help on the test. Tests are reasonable if you go to class and take notes. easy grader when it comes to the company analysis.. aslong as you have the right idea, he will give you a good grade. A lil rude to students at times, but its ok.
This professor is really easy, and the only downside to taking his class is actually sitting through the whole thing. He takes 3 days to cover 1 days worth of information and it can get a bit boring. But if you don't come to class, or you leave early, your grade will suffer, attendance is 20%!
Easy professor. Fair grader. In his own words: "This exam is so easy,I'm ashamed to give it." Has witty jokes throughout the semester. Make sure he knows your name by the end of the semester.
I highly recommend him. explains very well all the topics, sometimes he gets lost in details. very good for learning the basics of finance.
Good professor, fair, a bit on the corny side... Good intro class to finance. There was no homework, but make sure to study on your own time or the exams will be tricky.
Don't be afraid of Harpaz. He knows his stuff and is overall a very good teacher with interesting stories. You must study outside of class -- read the textbook and do practice problems. Exams were challenging but fair. I'm not a finance major but found the class pretty interesting. The fact that it's a summer class may have made it a bit easier.
The worst teacher I have ever had!!!!!!! I'm an A student and for the first time in three and a half years I have got a C! He doesn't know how to teach! I took a summer semester with him- what you get on the tests is your final grade (no extra credits or points for attendance). He used questions from the book that we have never talked about. We sol
Very nice professor. Extremely practical. Relates the syllabus with the present state of economy. He gives tons of examples and solves a lot of problems in class. Exams 50% prob + 50% conceptual. Could be tricky. Learn the financial calculator well. Textbook reqd. He cannot hear well so speak up if you want his attention. Will take him again.
Enjoyed his class in Summer. Witty, tons of real world examples and decent tests. Fair grader. Curves the exams. He loves to talk about Wall street and its scandals. One of the senior most Finance profs in Baruch. He knows his stuff.
In all honesty, I wish I had taken another professor, but due to my work schedule this proved to be impossible. Everything he taught, I had already learned in 3610, this class wasted my time. Probably going to audit it next semester with another teacher. If you are here to learn corp fin, seriously this guy is not for you. easy a people enjoy it.
WOW! can it get any better? I really did not think that Baruch even had teachers like him, especially for advanced courses. He isn't one of those insane teachers, who tries to mess you up so you don't do well. He really wants you to excel and gives you every opportunity to do so. Midterm, final, two projects, short essays. Great class, take!
Three tests will make up your grade. Likes to relate material to topics in the news. Allows one sheet of notes during tests. Good professor. Buy the study guide and practice it until you know it. Fair professor.
Beware!...not an easy A...have to work very hard to do well in his class...good professor and he makes it interesting and uses real world examples but his tests are tricky and he has no sympathy for students
he is not a good professor at all. he doesn't care about students. he tricks a lots on exam! he doesn't explain well in calss either. STAY AWAYYYY!!!
Very interesting professor. He's genuinely a nice guy.. easy going with a good sense of humor. He also knows his stuff! Uses current events with lecture notes and is not afraid to give his opinion on topics. You don't need to read the textbook but doing questions from the study guide helps. Great intro/intermediate finance course.
Prof did use real world examples but doesn't answer questions well. Tests were difficult. Def use do the practice questions in the study guide.
Excellent professor ? very knowledgeable, reasonable, with a good sense of humor. Interesting lectures, linked to reality. Course is well organized. 3 equally-weighted non-cumulative exams - designed to test your understanding, not your memory. Pay attention in class, read the textbook, do the required problems ? and you will be fine. Highly recomm
Thought the course material was definitely challenging. He allows for one sheet of notes on all exams - a definite plus. Kind of funny at times. Take the class.
Goes straight through the slides which are based on the book and then gives you examples. There is 0 class participation as it's a one sided lecture. You don't have to go to class at all; just read the book and do the study guide problems and you can pass this course on your own. Grade is based on three, equally weighted exams.
Not bad. Learned a lot from class. He has good examples and explains thoroughly. Talks about current events from the financial point of view. One midterm, 4 case studies and for finail we had another case study. Most case studies are about valueing a company.
good class!
The lectures are not very interesting. He usually veers away from Finance and talks about investing and politics. Do well on the 4-5 projects he'll assign and you'll be fine. Do all the practice problems he assigns before tests because you'll see them again. Understand the concepts behind the topics covered in class, you'll get tested on this too
The ones who said he is a good prof., are you all serious or on crack? He is the worst prof. ever. I did my undergrad and MBA from Baruch and never had such a bad prof. He picks up his cell phone in class, never answers any questions and rambles while showing slides. Most students who get good grades do it on their own just like I did. AVOID!
An OK class - not fascinating, but I learned a fair amount and got a good grade without knocking myself out. I especially liked that there were three equally weighted exams and no other assignments. There are a few specific classes that it is important to attend, because Prof does problems on subjects that don't get covered well in book.
Best teacher i ever had. everything was just so crystal clear and he made me laugh. He makes no mistakes ever and provides good insight to the real world. He is super responsive. By the end of the class, you will not be learning it you will be singing it
I did not like many professors during the course of my study. But about this one I decided to write here. His awful mumbling, makes this class BORING. I am an A student, but I wish I got a C just to pass this class. I wanted to study finance a lot, but this professor made me hate it.
This guy is very funny, he is very intelligent and clarifies his teachings. However BEWARE his tests are 50 questions and all long math questions. I failed my final exam because I couldnt finish the test on time. So time yourself on every question... like he says you will need to 'SING' the material before entering his exams.
He's not that bad. Interesting guy, he talks a lot about current issues which is refreshing. He tries to attach his concepts to things happening right now to help students learn. The exams aren't too bad, but the concept questions are trickier than the math ones. He doesn't hear that well, so be prepared to be ignored a lot, but good professor
Excellent Prof! Know his material. Covers problems not in the book. Makes some corny jokes some times but they will make your day! Very nice! Extremely helpful!
makes the course fascinating by weaving contemporary events into his lectures. very clear teacher, very approachable, & repeats often, so unless you're in a coma and plan to make no effort don't expect to get your A. the sheer entertainment value of his lecture style makes the class worth taking- those who've taken him know what i'm referring to!
He is very clear and easy. probably, some students dont like him because he has his own stiff teaching style, but over the course, he is really trying to teach the course in easy way. Also, he has real bright insight and good knowlege for the finance market.
Go to class! he gives prac ques & hints of what will be in the exam. Very insightful & knowledgeable prof, learnt a lot. Three equally weighted exams. Def Buy the textbook and study guide, do the end of chapter quests & study guide ques, you will get 100% or close to it. Overall good prof. Does not curve, does not need to as exams are fair.
Incredibly boring lectures reading off slides he didn't prepare. Does tell you what will be on the exam but the concept questions can be very tricky. But the math problems are straight-forward. Tries to use real-world examples, to no avail. Wastes time by repeating everything multiple times. Not the best, not the worst.
Please avoid him. He doesn't teach and what he does is to go over the power point. Worst professor , if you take his class , you will regret at the end of the semester .
The worst professor I had in Baruch. Classes are extremely boring. He speaks monotonically and doesn't notice if students raise hands to ask questions. Just looks down at the computer and reads from the slides all session. Very unhelpful and cancels many classes but expects a lot on the exams. Don't take his class.
Positives - I learned a lot from this class. He explains concepts pretty well. He basically feeds u what is on the tests if u come 2 class & do the end of chapter problems he assigns. Fair tests as he tells u what is on them. If u go 2 class & pay attention u will do well. Negatives - he basically reads the slides & is not good at taking questions.
Very fair professor. 3 exams, he curves so that the median score is 87. Cheat sheet allowed on exams. I did not attend class often, however I studied many hours on my own, and my final grade was almost 100.
P. Harpaz is brilliant. He knows finance very well, he trades options. Two projects, they were not easy but we learned a lot. He is not a tough grader.Participation is mandatory as it's 10% of the grade.Read the slides before class and articles he emails and 10% is in your pocket. To do well on 1 midterm and 1final-study end of the chapter problems.
Prof. Harpaz's class is amusing, especially when he's making fun of the brown-nosers who are ostensibly in every class ever since grade school. Pay attention to lectures, study what you're told and you will get a good grade.
Nice guy, good professor. Especially interesting when he discusses some real life financial events. Knows his stuff. Curves up to B+ class average if needed. I strongly recommend.
Get the HP financial calculator. He tells you what will be on the test. Concept questions can be tricky. 2nd test was tough. Your grade is the average of three tests. If you mess up on one test then down goes your GPA so STUDY.
For a non-Finance person, Prof. Harpaz made this class very easy to understand. Doesn't take attendance after the first few days but the best way to do well is to go to class. Get the study guide for the textbook and do the end of chapter problems - they help you with some of the exam questions. Overall, not too hard with a minor amount of work.
Porf Harpaz reads directly off of the slides and is not very good at answering questions in class. Doing the end of chapter text book questions and the study guide book are key to getting an A in the class. Tests are pretty straight forward.
Relatively lazy professor. Required assignments are easy, he barely reads them anyway. Get the test bank questions because midterm and final questions are directly from there. Study from that and it's an easy A. Textbook not required, just skim through it.
Decent teacher, tests are acceptable.
took him for FIN 9770 and he was great. then this semester he changed. heard he's just as bad for FIN 9770 now too. what happened to you harpaz?
Much harder than his FIN9770. Even he realized he gave too difficult midterm and curved it way upward. Final was much more reasonable, but still pretty tough. The three group papers were graded pretty easily, and you get an extra 5% added to your total points for the class if you attend three Bloomberg terminal sessions.
this class is hard and horrible! avoid this
Don't bother w the book, def use the study guide. Harpaz was a strict no frills teacher. I took a short summer session so a lot of info in short time - not recommended. I think a regular semester would have been betetr. He tells you what will be on the exam, but he may not be the best to explain the material.
A robot may well have taught this class because Harpaz rambles on one path in monotone and does not stop for questions without any mind to the class surrounding him. "Look I already told you!" Tests are fair but concept questions will be the difference between a B and an A. Posts all solutions online which is nice, but is ultimately a lazy person.
Make sure you go to class as he'll mention things explicitly that will be on the test, especially with regards to concept questions, which can make or break your grade. Boring lecturer, though sometimes entertaining with dry humor. Usually curves and gives some opportunity for extra credit. Not an excellent professor, but still pretty decent.
It was an easy A for me. Don't expect to learn something from him. Study on your own. All exams are taken from the test bank. Midterm, final, two case studies and 5 responses to the questions.
If you read the text and endure his lectures, you will pass. But he's not very helpful and can be very rude. He makes a lot of mistakes and when you try to ask for clarification, his first reaction is to dismiss the student. You have to push to get him to respond to inquiries and he is selective about who he listens to.
I took him in the summer and he's very hard. He likes to compare his previous semester class to his summer class. Summer class is only for 6wks and it's at least 2x more intense. There are also 2 case studies which gets in the way in studying for the midterm and final. He tells you that everything will be on the exams. Too much materials.
Professor Harpaz is truly a great professor. I was scared to take Finance again after a terrible experience during undergraduate studies at Baruch; however, he completely revitalized my interest in the subject. Professor Harpaz was very good at explaining and simplifying difficult concepts. He was also very informative, entertaining and supportive
Prof Harpaz is a very fair professor. He gives extra credit assignments and prepares you well for the exams. He even supplies you with formula sheets for the exams. Just listen carefully in class because the problems he goes over will most likely be tested. He goes at a slow pace to make sure all students can follow. Overall, very recommended.
Summer session consisted of 2 group case studies (1 presented), midterm and final. He is a very nice man. He wants you to learn, and tells you exactly what to expects no the exam. You will have to practice independently to score well.
Terribly paced question, fell way behind due to going off on excessive unrelated tangents about Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, etc. Spent 4 weeks on the first chapter. Ran out of time at the end and covered 1.5 chapters two days before a final. Does not answer questions and is rude, and evasive. Tests have questions with obscure facts. Repetitive.
I took Professor Harpaz for FIN 9770 and he was great. But for FIN 9781, the class was extremely hard. Exams were challenging and they were not fair assessments of the course curriculum. Tested us on lots of random concepts. The final was extremely difficult and there was no curve. This will be a self-study course if you choose to take it.
Pros- explains things well in class to make you understand the concepts; gives extra credit; Cons - tests are very difficult, much harder than the hw problems he assigns; he does not answer students questions in class; unable to pace the semester and towards the end he rushed through 2 chapters right before the final.
very clear on assignments, communicates a lot through email, if didn't have time to cover topic in the lecture, it will not be on the exam, fare and clear all around. expect to study, but for graduate level finance class it was not terrible at all! easy project for extra 5 points! would definitely recommend him.
He is clear and straight forward about content that will be on the exam. That being said, his exams are difficult. The best way to prepare for the exams is to do the practice problems that he assigns. Extra credit is 3 points, 2 case studies for 20%. I did poorly on the midterm but made up for it on the final. This class is definitely doable.
Not a friendly guy, doesn't take questions in class, ineffective teaching style. Demands we know things from the textbook that he didn't go over in class. Goes on long useless tangents in class and then says we don't have time to review all the material. I would not recommend, avoid at all costs.
Amazing professor! His lectures are great - very clear and organized. He is very smart and has a great sense of humor) I really enjoy every lecture!
Good Professor. Scares you into doing good. Gives grades quickly and efficiently. Straight to the point about grading. Responds to emails and gives a good break down of the exam, which sometimes he changes. Tests in Adv. Corp Fin were heavy on numerical. I assume most of test are quantitative with not many conceptual.
Professor Harpaz is one of the better professors I had at Baruch. Useful and insightful lecture, organized syllabus, and communicates a lot over e-mail. Occasionally answers questions in class, but will respond to e-mail questions promptly. Can be repetitive at times. Exams are hard, like most finance courses. Need to do the HW to do well.
First thing - Get the book and read it. Second - take notes on the examples that he goes over in class as they are very similar to what you will see on exams. Third - do the end of chapter problems that he assigns (not mandatory but WILL BE ON TEST). Lastly - The extra credit is more tedious than expected (8 hr online class with quizzes as you go)
Read the book, even though he says a lot of the material is not going to be on the test (IT IS). His tests are VERY hard, and he does not curve. If you can take this class with another professor I highly recommend you do that!
The lecture could be boring but he is quite clear with what he's expecting from the class. The exams are taken from the test banks. People just go and sign the attendance and leave. The most important thing of all: he curves hugely. Very generous with the curve.
For the summer class it was pretty straight forward. You don't even have to show off to class. Just read the book and that's good enough. 1 Midterm (50%) and 1 Final (50%). Both are 50 MC questions. They are not bad, you have to practice by your own. Very doable course. Very good to take through the summer.
Summer class has only two exams. Final is not cumulative. MC questions. Do the exercises on the book and you'll be fine. He curves big!!
You definitely have to study by your own. The midterm and final are heavy numerical. So it is about practice
He has to curve because his exams are so difficult it is almost impossible to pass without help. He says what topics are going to be on the exam, but the examples he provides are nothing compare to the ones on the exams. Multiple choice exams btw
His lectures can be boring, but they are helpful for the tests. 2 group projects worth 20%, believe me, they are easy. A presentation worth 10%, you can talk nonsense and he won't notice. You'll get these point very easily. Midterm and final are worth 35% each. MC. He curves very generously. I recommend you to take him.
For FIN 4610 there are two group projects and one presentation. You got that 30% of the class. One midterm and one Final (no comprehensive). The lectures can be sort of boring, he takes attendance but read the book, practice with the exercises and you'll be fine. He repeat himself a lot. He curves depending on the development of the class
His lectures aren't too bad. Tests are hard though. Have to read textbook and listen to class for a good grade. Group projects are helpful. Even if you do okay work on them you get 20% and 5% for extra credit. He curves too. You can easily get an A/A- in this class if you do a little work, as you should. EC will save you if you did bad in a test
I never left a review on this site till now. Harpaz is one of the worst professor I have ever taken in my financial career. His lectures are long and boring, and he doesn't help answer questions. His exams are very hard, and he will test you on things he did not teach in class. Unfortunately, he is the only professor to teach this course.
Lectures are long and boring, but he emphasizes things you need to know. Midterm and Final only during the summer. Exams are tough, although you can get a good sense of the questions that will be on the exam by reading the book and doing the end of chapter questions. Course was laid out well for the most part. Curves generously due to difficulty.
This guy failed me, which is now costing me thousands of dollars to have to retake this class and extending my program out another semester. I am blown away at how awful some of these teachers are for the part time MBA program. I have a real job and used paid vacation days to study. Tests are rediculous. 2 midterms and a final.
Don't take him if you want to learn or get a good grade. This professor comes into class reads slides and talks about real life examples. However, on the tests, they are completely math based calculations. Nothing he taught in class. His HW is on connect and nothing he taught in class. This is a self- teach class.
This class is hard and Prof just read slides in class which this class needs a lot of calculation. I didn't do well in class and I completed my hw on time and attend to class every time, he passed me. He gave a big curve in our class. I have no complained.
Somehow got an A only because he curves crazy, but you will hate every second of being in the lecture. Only worth taking because he curves the tests AND the final grades. Homeworks are ridiculous and hard for no reason. Definitely should not have gotten an A so if there's a reason to take him, this is the only one. Good luck.
AVOID!!! This professor is a nightmare. You'll have to learn all the material yourself. Don't go to class.
The worst of the worst he gives attendence sheet 10 min before the end of class then you have to stay to make sure that you check your name of course. He is so lazy he keeps on telling people to read and study by themself or read the manual. he is just rude. If you want an advice DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR SKIP TO NEXT SEMESTER.
Excellent Professor. Received 80 in midterm 1 and 96 in midterm 2. Also taking him for fin 3710 next semester and planning to take his 4000 level classes as well. Easy A
RUN if you can... Not a bad guy and when he teaches with the white board, you can actually learn something. Yet, mostly uses slides based off the text book which then is just a boat load of information that isn't useful for the exams as it should be. Good luck and PLS pray for my grade.
He's a bad teacher - doesn't take questions on anything, is grumpy, and the material he teaches is completely unrelated to the HW or tests. I took it online. Tests are very similar to homework and if you do the textbook questions and HW, you'll be fine. Also connect HW is 40% and bc of unlimited tries, it's easy. Don't bother with class.
Took his summer session . His lectires are super boring and not clear , ended up reading book instead. Midterm and final were heavy 50 questions numerical calculations which are almost impossible to finish for 2 hours given. Doesnt give any solutions to solve problems you have to figure out your way , not responsive makes mistakes, retired
Connect has unlimited tries and is a easy 35% of your grade. The tests copy the hw questions. He curved final grade 6%. Must take
Boring lectures, might as well just self-learn. Doesn't answer students questions, very grumpy
Im taking his class now. He only read the ppt slide and never explain the material. First midterm exam was similar on connect homework. He gave 25 questions on exam, we had to finish in hour. On second midterm, he admitted that exam was longer and 30 questions in one hour but nothing related on connect hw. We got very poor grade.
This professor is beyond impossible. The class apparently did decent on the first midterm and this dude doubled the amount of questions and upped the difficulty on the 2nd midterm. The home work is way too time consuming. AVOID!! I have been pulling all nighters to study and then he just makes the test impossible. I regret taking him.
He is one of the worse professors I've ever encountered in Baruch. He has zero knowledge regarding the course whatsoever and just reads of off the PPT and discusses irrelevant things in class which is not related to the exams. Unnecessary amount of HWs. He does not explain any of the problems that's important for exams. AVOID at any cost!!!!
If I had the chance I would give him a zero rating. He does not help students with problems from connect for final exam practice. I asked him to help me with a question he blatantly said he won't help and to figure it out myself. I wonder how Baruch has such unprofessional professors who doesn't care about students whatsoever. He is the WORSE.
Truly a nightmare. He gives you a ton of questions on the midterms and finals and expects you to finish in time. Most of the class seems to hate him for that. He also made the second midterm harder because we did pretty well on midterm 1. What a joke.
I would avoid this professor. Attendance not required after the first two zoom lectures. After attending two lectures I never watched another one because it was clear that this is a self-learning class. If you are good at reading textbooks, self-teaching and a good exam taker under time pressure, then you can still do well. But know that going in.
AVOID. Doesn't teach. Just reads the slides. Doesn't communicate with students. Doesn't answer the questions. Instantly ends the class ignoring the whole class. Take him if you have no other choices. 0 usefulness from him.
This is the worst professor I ever had. He does not welcome participation or good questions and puts everyone on mandatory mute for Zoom lectures. He reads from textbook slides and explains nothing. He gets all the homework and test questions from Connect and puts in zero effort. I expect a graduate class to be engaging. Avoid at all costs.
This is probably the worst class I have ever taken and he can easily be considered the worst professor at Baruch. - He does not teach but reads from pre-made powerpoints from textbook - It is a math class and he DOESN'T do math problems in class. All learning is on your own. No questions allowed. - Connect HW takes forever & exams impossible
This is without a doubt the worst professor I've taken at Baruch. I was looking forward to learning corporate finance but its nearly impossible in this class as your main objective is to just survive by whatever means necessary. HWs are ridiculously long for no reason and you have to teach yourself everything. AVOID AT ALL COSTS HE IS HORRIBLE
Such a shame that a professor like him teaches at a prestigious college like Baruch. Very disrespectful individual. STAY AWAY
waste of time. take him if you want your gpa ruined.
you can study all you want, it will be no use cause the exam is nothing like the lectures
Worst class I've taken so far. Basically just the textbook, nothing else. Lectures are useless. Waste of time. Avoid if possible
Avoid this Professor
If you intend to learn anythingdont take this Professor. He is not open to student participation, not very clear or helpful in explaining the material. Tests are not fair, homeworks are long and he will not provide help or clarification. No curves.
AVOID. THIS PROF IS VERY DISRESPECTFUL
Entire class was an online textbook, all his slides were from the publisher. He did NOTHING. All exams automated online. Homework assignments took several hours, even with the solution manual he provided us! This man did not help at all. Cheating was the only way to pass this class (Chegg) Extremely rude. Avoid, horrible experience. Worst at Baruch
My worst professor at Baruch so far. Didn't explain anything, got mad if you asked questions or had concerns. If you cheated in his class it was great, easy to get away with online. Because so many people scored perfect grades he didn't curve at all. Any other Professor would not have been so blind and ignorant. Save your time and money, don't take
dont take unless you want to fail
rude person all around, i dont understand how people get so cold
HORRIBLE. you learn nothing, goes onto tangents that do not pertain to class at all. can be a bit passive-aggressive during lectures and is very rude. you miss midterm? no makeup whatsoever and the final is going to be worth 70% of your grade. not accommodating at all, reads off of slides. and be prepared to be spammed with unnecessary emails.
Worst Professor at Baruch by far. He disrespects students and doesn't care if you pass. Doesn't explain anything if you ask and tells you to read the textbook. Don't recommend.
Worse prof. he does not care at all. Dont answer. ignored your questions. Even if you raise your hand or say it laud you have question he will ignor you. Total self-learning class. Read from Connect slides. Has no clear or real problem that he solve in the classroom. Only provide formulas.
He doesn't teach he reads off the board. His favorites will do well otherwise good luck. No clear grading criteria for final. Baruch needs to look into his grading policies for exams he has a hand written scattered formula sheet for exams not helpful at all... Again nice man but avoid him at all cost.
one of my favorite teachers throughout my time at Baruch. I took a different finance class with a different professor and failed it, but this professor was incredible and I did way better this go around. I definitely recommend taking this professor over all other finance professors at Baruch.
Beware, he is BAD. Study his connect homework, he provides a very basic formula sheet for exams. His exams are very difficult (25% midterm, 35 final) However, my class did poorly and he was not shy in giving an extremely generous curve(30%). You can easily pass if you do all assignments, projects, and exams. If you go to class he can be reasonable.
His lectures were confusing. Had to study on my own to actually understand the material
AVOIDD!!!!!! Absolutely awful professor, just reads off slides every class. Doesn't like giving feedback to students and very lazy when you ask for assistance. Should have retired 20 years ago.
Gives project with no examples and when you ask for help he just ignores you. Should not be teaching!!!!!! Just reads off slides and can't provide any extra help when you ask.
Tough class with an unhelpful professor. Lectures are confusing, and you have to self-study to grasp the material. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for preparing for exams.
bro gets paid to read things out loud lmao
