All you do in this class is lecture and discuss. There is way too much reading. You have to read a book and write a paper on it. The tests were hard and pretty much everybody fails. I managed a B. Just try and keep up.

Benny Ables gives more time to the rip off Phi Theta Kappa, than she does her history students. She always has a substitute while she flies all over the place on these free trips that Phi Theta Kappa pays for. Don't join PTK. It's a rip off! Students donate time for fundraising and she benfits.

I enjoyed her lectures. The mostly read journals and not the text,so history seemed to have some truth to it. Instead of just having to read someone's opinon over and over like u do in text. For this i appreciate her course. What i disliked is i never knew what she wanted from the class. Our test were essays, I never new what she wanted.

Professor Ables makes the course very easy and the workload is very manageable;I enjoyed her class. I will say that she is very general with her instructions which might cause confusion and sometimes take long to reply to messages. She can be dry with the feedback, but overall she's very lenient.

Make sure to read the syllabus and follow her instructions carefully. She's a tough grader and can come off as rude when giving feedback, but don't take it personally. If you revise your work based on her comments and resubmit before the deadline, she's willing to change your grade. She said my essays were excellent - highest she gave was a 94/95.

A very sociable and approachable professor who makes this course enjoyable. If you need to knock out a HIST Credit, I do recommend her class. She does have expectations for students to follow in order to pass, but nothing extreme. She'll have group projects and expect that you read textbooks and answer. Otherwise, the class time is worthwhile.

Not the worst teacher but I doubt I'd take her again.

This professor is unfair and inconsistent. Participation is required, but the max grade is 92. Grading is harsh, small mistakes lose points, and resubmissions are given to some but not all. Discussions get little time, questions are rarely answered, and the class is not engaging.

I would not recommend this professor, especially if you care about your grade. She won't give you anything higher than a 92. She has no clear grading criteria so you don't even know how to improve for a better grade.

No rubrics or guidance as to what she wants for assignments. She just grades what she feels like giving you at the time.

Professor Ables is a really good professor, who is clear from the beginning, in how her class works. There are no tests, with everything being graded on three projects, with a lot of the learning coming down to the discussions after the lecture. One thing is that she does not give any 100s no matter how good you do, only 90s. Retook for 1302.

She doesn't give any tests which can be seen as a bonus, however there's a slim chance you'll get a grade higher than a 92… She also verbally gives instructions instead of having clear rubrics. Condescending as well.
