Nice instructor who is always willing to offer advice, but in the end really not that helpful. Tends to use the excuse of not having written the course material/exams. Lengthy class discussions on topics that are not represented on exams. And no discussion whatsoever on significant exam material. Poo.
Giselle appears to be super nice, but throughout the semester her true colors shine. She actually told our class to "SHUT...UP". She wants to be known as the nicest most approachable, but not true. She openly admits her exams are "Hard" and that she "marks hard". She likes trick questions and not give too many hints about material for the exam.
A lot of students did not like her teaching & didn't do that well, but I got an A in her class. Here's my advice to you, study the textbook definitions (bolded words). her test is mainly on that. Also, she'll tell you to look at websites, make sure you do that because it will be on the test!
I don't like the way she gives exams but hey, if you just study the book and everything she tells you (even the websites, guest speaker presentation) you will do just fine in her class. A lot of us in the class did not like the way she gave out exams. My tips for you is to follow her instructions and her short answers are mostly definitions (BOLD).
She's not a bad teacher. I like it when she tells her personal nursing stories. Her exams are fairly hard...her tests include definitions, random sentences from the textbook, ANY LISTS in the textbook!! She has a lot of "lists" in her exams. Dont talk in her class, dont be late, and dont use your cellphone in class and you'll survive.
KNOW YOUR determinants of health, and know word for word what resiliency and hardiness means!... she has a strange personality, nice one min, shouting the next, stay on her good side and youll be fine
She really isn't that bad as long as her no nonsense, loud personality doesn't intimidate you. Be polite: show up on time and don't talk on your cell. PRETEND you know what's going on and you will be fine. Do decently on your assignments so that you don't flunk/have to study for the ridiculous final and you'll end up with a passing grade.
I think that she seems scary but she is actually very approachable. Punctuality and respect goes a long way with giselle! Her final is hard, but if u do well in the assignments, passing the class should b fine
Very rude teacher. Exams were brutal and extensive. Do well in her assignments and you'll be fine.
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Goes off on tangents in class and makes little sense. Teaches things that are irrelevant, and doesn't teach the things that we are expected to know. Her exams are brutal with random questions out of the text book that she never talked about it class. She should not be allowed to teach.
Tests are ridiculous and she never listens to anything you say.
This woman is awful! I think she loves the sound of her own voice. She doesn’t stay on topic in class, she is very redundant, and rarely comes to a point. You basically have to teach yourself in this class. Her exams are really annoying. Sometimes she does not reply to emails.
As a lecture instructor, she is quite intimidating in the beginning, but she is friendly when you approach her. The test use to be ok. But the system changed into NCLEX system by using the computers to take the exams, the questions become more trickier because you cannot review back to your questions.
Giselle was just an okay teacher. Sometimes she can be really easygoing and then she'll get really upset about something seemingly insignificant. I found her exams difficult.
Levels with students. Open to their feedback. Poorly organized with time, course content and test organization. Personally, she procrastinates and thinks she can do well anytime she wants. She is not a good teacher nor a great person despite her humor and openness. She can be selfish and confusing in her lectures. But easy class, easy tests.
Giselle may seem intimidating because she is so blunt, but she starts interesting discussions in class(though she may ramble on sometimes). Don't be afraid to ask her questions or go to her office hours. Her assigned readings are reasonable and the course content and quizzes are straight forward.
I had Giselle. I do not believe her to be an ethical teacher. She does things to protect herself rather than help the other students. She singles people out for no reason. She did a "seminar" style class which basically meant she could come in and ramble about the topics rather than presenting real info. Not helpful, not useful, tactless.
Very judgmental, not a good instructor. She talks excessively about her personal life. Very stubborn. Terrible instructor for clinical, avoid.
She's ok! Lots of writing in this class at the beginning of the term. Otherwise, she's a pretty good teacher.
easy teacher for 1109. Dont get her for clinical though!!
What is the point of attending class if she is too lazy to teach? She gets everyone to present a topic and expects that everyone understands the material. There is no midterm/final for this course which is great I guess. I did not have her as a clinical instructor, but I have heard she is quite the character.
She was a Great teacher and I learnt a lot from her. She was very knowledgeable and was easy to approach. Just do your work, listen and everything will be fine. Overall a very pleasant woman and a good teacher.
Very open person. Great for nursing. Can talk to her about anything and she'll support you appropriately. Gives assignments and tests every week but overall grades are significantly better. Easy to follow guidelines (unlike other nursing courses). Thank you.
Great for a chuckle, not so great as an instructor. "Lectures" were useless. You're better off just showing up for the weekly quizzes, then skipping class and just doing the readings (and there will be a lot). Asks the most stupid questions on tests. They're either really easy or really convoluted.
I was unsure about her at the beginning of the semester bc reviews on here but Giselle is a great instructor! You have to work hard to do well and there's lots of work. She's open to criticism and wants her students to do well so talk to her. Also you get marks back fast and her class is organized!! (way better than other classes)
I thought Giselle was helpful! Although she may seem intimidating, she is still very nice. Don't be afraid to talk to her if you need help. This class does require you to work hard however. It is not an easy class.
Mediocre health instructor, horrible clinical. AVOID clinical with her. She's not organized, does not give back constructive criticism. Likes to use her superiority to justify her actions. Got mad when we weren't signed of on ceiling lifts post midterm when she was the one who canceled clinicals or says she was busy with others to sign you off.
Classes are a discussion of reading material/videos/podcasts assigned in the learning activity which makes the exam difficult to study for. Quiz was straight forward. Exam questions were convoluted, unclear and poorly written TBH. Hmk consists of making up questions on videos/podcasts that she might use on the exam. Open to feedback about the exam
Her class discusses your assigned readings/podcasts/articles. So you must come prepared. Her quizzes are randomly pulled from her test bank online so, your classmates will have different questions than you. I felt this was unfair.
I was intimidated by Giselle at first, although the more you get to know her the nicer she is. Don't be intimidated! She will prepare you well if you are attentive. She was very motivational in clinical.
Giselle really cares about students and is passionate about nursing. Her teaching style/ format for our class was unconventional (lots of material from cbc, videos, online articles) which suited some people and frustrated others. I respected her for trying to keep things interesting. She works hard as a teacher.
Do your readings and you will pass. Lectures are not always useful. Marks take a long time to be posted. Exam contents are not the same for everyone, which I think was a bit unfair. Some people may do well, others may not (depending on the questions they are given). Exam questions are somewhat tough. :( I hope this one gets posted this time.
Be prepared to work hard studying for exams. She assigns a very high amount of prep for exams and feels no remorse about it. Your exam Qs are randomized so you could get tested on all sections equally, or on mostly one reading onlyyou have to come prepared! Focus on vitamins/minerals + practice questions in the textbook, that is a must! Good luck.
Absolutely horrible teacher. I felt I did not learn anything from in-class lectures, which are mostly discussion based. Be prepared to watch ALOT of videos and pidcasts as a part of your readings. She's stubborn and uses phrases like "not that I care" openly. Her exams and grading criteria are absolute mess!! Avoid her if you could, sadly not.
Lectures are optional to attend as long as you attend the scheduled in class quizzes. I learned nothing new from attending her lectures. I missed most classes and did fine in her course. She was also slightly rude and overbearing at times to some students at random. She's not a great teacher but it isn't impossible to do well in her class.
1209 Class was straight forward. Does not teach. Goes off topic so its mostly self-taught. 1263: AVOID, DISORGANIZED, uses her authority and makes unreasonable amount of work compared to other clinical instructors. Not very supportive. She pushes you which is good but she is very unpredictable and you never know what to expect. BEWARE!!!
Terrible instructor and focuses too much on the structural component of writing rather than content. Her marking is ridiculous and even if you follow the rubric you'll get a bad mark. She talks to students in a very demeaning, infantilized manner. Seems to think college students can't write a paragraph. Should not be a prof. Literally the worst!!
Prime example of an interesting course ruined by a terrible professor. Marks very unrealistically in discussion postings and will literally post links to websites on "how to write a paragraph". Seems to be weirdly focused on how we structure our writing rather than the content and will give a bad mark just because of this. Just a mess of a prof.
Avoid at all costs. Giselle is condescending and unhelpful in both theory courses and clinical. Her marking does not go by any rubric, she will copy and paste generic feedback such as "only use words you know" and she never answers email. She literally just hands out marks and can't explain why you received the mark you did. Awful awful awful!
Awesome prof. While she can go on tangents throughout lectures, she is a very forgiving marker. No final exam; plenty of weekly quizzes that tests critical application. She lists exactly what to study and what is tested. If you're aiming for an A+, you may be disappointed. But if you want to LEARN, she's fantastic. Just a wealth of knowledge.
Really nice person but the most unorganized prof I've never met. The class wasn't hard (if it weren't for the weekly quizzes I probably wouldn't have shown up) but she's just a terrible instructor. Missed a month of school and kept changing around the schedule. Her lectures are disorganized and she takes forever to mark things.
AMAZING CLINICAL! All you need to know: 1. SHOW UP READY--do TSPs, understand H2T, etc 2. Be ready to work 10x harder than the other clinical groups ('coz you WILL) 3. Trust her. She wants you to pass and you will. Yes, there's a lot of work in her clinical (weekly journals, PAF, DMF, CPA) but she's very understanding and caring to your learning.
The comments left about Giselle are misleading. She knows what she's doing and wants the best for all the students. She's fair and reasonable with all graded work. There were some schedule mishaps, but it turned out well. One of the best instructors, so far! :)
Show up on time, in your uniform and prepared to work. She does not expect perfection but she's not suitable for ultra-sensitive students. Practice in the lab and know your drugs. Very flexible with due dates and meeting student needs/schedules. She will set you up for success and help you pass - supportive, kind and funny.
Impatient and easily frustrated. Tries to multitask but just becomes frustrated and lashes out at students. When things go wrong, it's the student(s) fault and never her. Do not make her angry.
One of the best clinical teachers I could have asked for. The pace is quite quick, but you never fall behind, she makes sure of it. She truely prepares you for term 3. I could not recommed her high enough. I saw a real change in myself before and after her clinical, and it was 100% for teh better.
Doesnt teach. Just judges u and treats u like ur stupid. Every other clinical group focused on building confidence and learning. Giselles focus was how fast u can move while not giving any opportunity to learn. My entire clinical group came close to failing and 1 student who was probably the strongest out of us all ended up failing. AVOID HER
Way to impatient to be teaching term 2 -.- she is not clear with her expectations and doesnt communicate what ur supposed to do and then proceeds to yell at u for it when in fact she is the problem. Started off the semester very nice and then got worse and worse. She forgets this is term 2 and we dont kno what we r doing
Nice but can be rude at times. Exams are MC and SA questions. Papers are marked fairly. Answers questions in detail and replies to emails.
Lectures are 75% her stories and anecdotes. 9 quizzes totalling 81% of grade based off weekly readings and vids but there's no final. One 5 page paper that emphasises APA. Quiz questions are tricky, do the ATI questions at the end of the chapters. Lot of memorisation and self-learning.
Do NOT choose Coquitlam clinical placement for term 2! Be ready to work extra hard in clinical. She's moody, strict, and expects perfection. You must show her you're working your butt off and work fast to pass. She'll make you feel like garbage and make you cry. Her workload is avg and is flexible with deadlines but she is disorganized and unclear.
Giselle is the worst prof I have ever had, avoid at all costs. As a result of her bullying and volatile ways, the majority of our clinical group cried on numerous occasions. She openly humiliates her students in front of staff, residents and visitors. She also holds failure over all of her students heads when minor errors are made.
Giselles review's are misleading, her course is not difficult as long as you study and pay attention to the material! She cares for her students and tries to help them when needed. Do the readings and understand the course content you will be just fine!
Giselle has never satisfactorily answered a single question in class. She instead goes on long unrelated tangents until you've forgotten what the question was. She takes offense if the class is unresponsive to her. Unclear with marking criteria, and will dock significant marks without giving adequate reasons.
Tons of weekly assignments that can be a lot of work for little to no marks. Haphazard marking with absolutely useless feedback. Continually changes the criteria and marking rubrics but is always a month behind in marking so you never know what she wants. Has never once clearly answered any question. Won't fail but will be extremely frustrating.
Do not recommend. Giselle is not an approachable or supportive instructor. Posted online lectures that were irrelevant to the week's material. Took over a month to return assignments (including short online MC quizzes). Grading was extremely unclear. Good luck if you have her as an instructor - make your own notes and learn to self-study.
If you're expecting to learn anything in her class, you're not. Be prepared to make your own notes and to self-study. She gives weekly assignments and it takes over 5 weeks to get anything back. No clear grading criteria. Doesn't answer questions and often restates your questions back to you as a statement. Try to avoid Giselle if possible.
When asked a question, make sure to be specific because if you don't, you won't get a straight answer. The majority of her assignments are not helpful due to the fact that she doesn't give you any helpful feedback. There are discrepancies between the outlines of each assignment and what she expects.
Giselle is an AMAZING clinical instructor. People may feel intimidated by her but if you put in effort she is always more than happy to help. You need to show her that you are ready to learn & willing to put in the work. Also very considerate and negotiates due dates with the group. You will learn lots with Giselle & she will prepare you for term 3
Giselle couldn't have been a kinder or more understanding professor this semester. She booked a day off for us just for choosing our next classes when she didn't need to, was clear on expectations for the course, and was accessible for any help that you needed for the paper or otherwise. You take from this course the effort you put in.
Giselle is straight magic! She truly cares about her students and wants to see them reach their full potential. There are comments mentioning she shares detailed stories of her professional experience, but that's where the true value is! If you want to memorize facts read a textbook. Participate in Giselle's lectures, you'll receive so much more.
Giselle's classes were well taught, engaging, and funny. She cares about her students and wants you to do well! The content she teaches is really important as well, and I've found that it helped me a lot in clinical. Highly recommend!
Giselle gives everything you need to know in her lectures and PP slides. The academic paper is probably the most difficult part of the class. She is very thoughtful and kind. I really enjoyed her class and would study again with her in the future.
She's the worst professor I've ever had in my entire life. She picks on students and humiliates them in front of the class, might even compare you to other students. When you're in fact doing exactly what she told you to do. She doesn't communicate clearly when marking papers. She would text you to redo it but would never specify which part.
Quizzes are difficult to finish in the time given. MCQ and drug card assignments are easy marks, major paper is very focussed on APA and make sure you are formatting it properly, otherwise it is pretty easy marks. The final reflection isn't too difficult, just make sure you know the general content from the class. Lectures are very slow and dry.
I had Giselle for term 2 clinical YEARS ago and as a now working RN, I still think back to how crappy she made me feel as a student brand new to patient care and nursing. She should not be a clinical instructor and made multiple of my clinical members cry. She bullied and humiliated her students. I'm sorry to poor future clinical students with her
Unclear assignments and she would frequently change the rubric after I had started working on them. Felt like I was being penalized for starting early. Lectures were slow and boring, she mostly talked about her personal experiences. Grade weighting was kind of wack, 11% for a 6 page essay, which was the same amount for a 15 MCQ quiz.
Lots of assignments, not weighted properly. The final exam was an in-class reflection, which was easy. No midterm! Quizzes are fair, questions are taken from the assigned readings. She often changes the criteria for her assignment last min, but is an easy marker.
Giselles 1209 course was pretty easy. Don't overthink assignments basically everything in her course is a grade booster except for the quizzes and the paper which arent extremely difficult either.
Giselle was ok.. She didn't really teach, but if you do the readings you should be able to get a good mark.
No matter how hard I studied from her lecture materials, I'd still find myself so baffled and confused by her poorly written quiz questions. The majority of the time, I am aimlessly selecting the "correct" answer. The paper was useless and was marked with a strange rubric - the feedback attached to the assignment was not helpful. No final exam.
Test heavy with questions that are worded poorly, has material that we did not learn for that week, and academic paper rubric did not follow marking and was graded very tough. Giselle releases the powerpoints 2-3 days before the weekly quizzes and expects us to have enough time to study. I would say avoid, but it's probably inevitable for term 2.
Bruh, she's not it. Pros: Weekly quizzes so no mt/final exams. Cons: Quiz questions were unfair and not reflective of our knowledge. They're basically a guessing game, no matter how hard you study, you will end up just guessing what the "right" answers are. Lecture is easy to tune into tho bc she explains content in the most simplified way.
Giselle is very supportive when it comes to clinical. She cares for the students, staff, and residents very much. She prepares you extensively on skills; if you are unsure, she will guide you towards the proper answer. She has a story for everything and they are all equally as great. 10/10 PLEASE take her! I wish I had her for every term possible.
I think G has been really adaptive to the feedback students have provided over the more recent terms. She was very flexible and generous adjusting criteria to make things more fair. I enjoyed her lectures because she has a unique sense of humour and great stories. She teaches the material well, very simple and clear. PowerPoints are enough.
I like Giselle as a person, I think she's funny and knowledgeable. The class material is easy. However the assignments for this class were so frustrating. We had unfolding case study assignments to be completed through online discussion, which were a technical nightmare. And the climate change paper felt like busy work.
Giselle was a very easy instructor. The assignments were a little time-consuming but very easy. I finished the "major" climate paper essay in a matter of 3 hours and got an A... If people say she is difficult it is because they did not try or put effort into their work.
G is an awesome teacher. You will learn a lot in clinical from her but make you take the tsp seriously. She has a story for everything and they can be pretty funny. She is very straightforward with feedback which may rub off as rude to some students. She genuinely cares for her students and will support you.
Easy-going and straightforward personality, she possess the driest of humor (lol). Giselle is very approachable and realistic in a empathetic way. Especially when I discussed my challenges with another professor.
You know Miss. Trunchbull from Matilda? That's Giselle. - Term 2 Clinical Jan 2022
I am in Term 5 now and I MISS GISELLE, she was fantastic.
Clinical Term 2 Summer 2023. Favourite prof, I have come across so far. She was intimidating at first and gives a lot of homework but it helped with my confidence and I learned a lot. As long as you can nail your TSP and show you put in effort you will do well. Approachable and cares about your learning and future as a nurse. Very knowledgable.
She is NOT it.
This has to be the worst instructor in Langara College! I don't know what the other good reviewers are on about. She expects you to do weekly readings and then gives you the most random quiz questions ever which are completely irrelevant to what you read. She spends the lecture hours talking about non-testable garbo topics. Please retire ffs
To keep it short and simple, I will be quoting Chief Keef off of his 2012 hit "I Don't Like" to describe my feelings towards this professor. "DON'T LIKE."
Weekly pre-reading quizzes that does not cover the main parts of the readings but rather the exact quote of what someone said or some totally random information that's irrelevant. Her padlet is even worse, she makes you make m/c questions worth 5% for each assignment which we only get 45min to work on in class and the rubric is just not it
You're already paying for textbooks and tuition, why would you pay for a class where you write her tests for her? I don't think she enjoys teaching. I would start a gofundme to allow her to retire. She looks like she needs it, and honestly it would be better for everyone.
I don't know what the other reviews on are on. Giselle is an amazing and enthusiastic prof. All the negative reviews are just angry people who didn't study and memorize word for word the readings. Like honey, we're nursing students, you don't need a life you use gotta dedicate your entire life to this class.
Pre-reading quiz- takes 3-4 hours of your precious time, only for 2 percent. Expects us to make our own exam questions worth 5 percent each, and it's very unfairly marked, her standards are outta this world. Oh she also makes it inaccessible to access the class content 2 hours before any sort of testing. Good luck.
Didn't find Giselle to be as off-putting as others might suggest. Generally found her lectures pointless. I don't really understand her marking, and her quiz/exam questions are mostly application-based and not super clear, so although I did well in the class, I didn't really know what grade I'd end up with until the last couple weeks in the term.
I enjoyed the weekly quizzes because they helped me feel confident and well-prepared for midterms. One thing to note is that she may not always respond promptly or with a clear answer.
She is a very knowledgeable and caring instructor. If given a chance I would retake her in higher terms. I enjoyed both of her courses. She is an easy marker and genuinely wants you to succeed. She will genuinely support your learning both in clinical and her 1209.
Now graduated nurse I still think back to my clinical with Giselle. She told me and many of my peers that we would not make it through the program and should drop out. She said we would thank her for her "tough love" one day. I'm still waiting for that "one day"..but something tells me I will never be grateful for the bullying and abuse.
Extremely terrible tough instructor for Term 2. Criticizes you for small things like walking slowly or wiping slowly, sometimes in front of pts too. Will make you feel like a terrible student nurse and probably make you cry. Very unclear expectations. Pretty much demands perfection. Higher chance of failing clinicals with her vs other instructors.
I learned a lot having Giselle as my clinical instructor. Tough love at times but she means well and prepares you for the work force. She really helped with my confidence in my skills and ability to be a nurse. I spoke with her outside of class in office hours and she was very kind and told me its my calling to be a nurse and not to give up.
I do not get why be rude to students? Literally she ruined my mental so much, I can not think about her without crying. If you get her, please good luck. yikes
Wonderful and caring instruction
She tests on how well can you guess on a test, rather than actual concepts... RUN, one of the worst profs I have had, knows how to ruin her students mental health with her quizzes and midterms...
I agree with the last person, Worst Prof ever 🥲
Her first half of the course was terrible since she would nit pick content from the readings for the quiz and first midterm and it was a guessing game. She spends most of the lecture with case study and no break, then give under 20 minutes to do Padlet. The quizzes and second midterm got better in the second half. Only good thing was no final.
There are weekly 5 question pre-reading quizzes and a concept map done on padlet but you need to read EVERYTHING she assigns for that week. She tests on the nitty gritty details and has some outdated questions. Never gave enough time for padlet so it was always rushed. Second midterm is easier. Overall, not horrible but a lot of work.
Incredibly polarizing. She's a mix of compassion and intense bluntness. Many in my cohort thought that she was mean, but honestly, I've worked in kitchens with literal felons, and students here just don't really know what truly bad people are like. Her correcting you on the spot is her way of being kind. You'll leave her clinical sharper than most.
She's very knowledgeable about the job and knows her stuff. It may take some adjusting, but in the end, I came out stronger because of her. She is very understanding, but it doesn't mean she will not push you to do better when and where she can. Giselle is very much a tough-love figure, but she is someone from whom you can learn a lot.
The class in general is super easy to pass but Giselle is such a bad instructor. Her lectures are non examable only the readings. Her quizzes are very specific on the readings which is BS because who memorizes that much info? I think other classes' topics overlaps with this class' topics that's why everyone passed.
requires self-study, The class included 8 quizzes, 2 midterms, and Padlet assignments, (which weren't always clear). The professor seems intimidating at first, but she is actually approachable and professional. If you stay on top of the quizzes, readings, and assignments, the course is manageable.
