really coool teacher!!! teaches u such that u will get it in ur mind like lightening......just take her>>
I cannot say enough good things about this professor. Her teaching style is very visual so almost everyone will retain all the information. Her exams are exactly what is off the notes. What makes her stand out is her passion for the subject. I feel bad she has to educated juvenile individuals who take for granted her expertise and experience.
She's so passionate and cares for her students and is very strict, but extremely fair. I dreaded Bio, but loved this class! She is beyond helpful. She emails you her lecture notes and slides and sends study guides for the exams. Just attend class and lab, take notes (again, she already gives you her outline), read the material, and you've got an A!
She is an amazing professor. Very good with students. Answer any and all questions. Gives everyday examples to help explain topics better. As long as you attend class, take notes on the outline she provides and study those notes, you should get a good grade. Grade based mainly on quiz, test and lab.
Great professor. One of my favorite professors. Uses power point presentations for the majority of her lectures. Great visual aids. Very helpful. Answers all questions with clarity until everyone comprehends. Doesn't read verbadum from text, so definitely not boring. Quizes and test are easy as long as you take notes and study her outlines.
This professor is very understandable, she teaches in a way that everyone in the class gets something from the lecture. Quizzes, tests, and lab are the main portions of your grade, but if you had followed her outlines and attended class regularly you should be fine. She is very passionate about Biology and cares that her students learned the chpts.
Dr. Nilkanth is the BEST PROFESSOR I have ever taken. I have learned more from her this semester than I ever knew about Biology. Not an easy class. But, if you attend class, take notes, participate, and ask questions, she will help you. Do not take this class if you are looking to pass with an easy a. It does not exist.
This class was the best Bio class I've ever taken. I learned so much in this class. Prof Gita made this class so interesting, though there was a lot of material to get through, she made it very simple and easy to follow. It's definately not an easy A, but yeah..well it was an A for me :D..thanks Prof Gita. If she's teaching bio 170, I'd so take it.
her grading is hard, but fair. also, she explains things very well and is willing to help. I wish she was teaching other bio classes cept 101, would definetely take her class
One of the kindest teachers at Fullerton College. Best bio class ever. She is the most helpful teacher I have EVER taken. Take her. You will fall in love with Biology!
Great Teacher!! Weekly Quizzes Multiple Choice, but they really prepare you for exams, also multiple choice plus diagram questions from the book. Those quizzes got annoying but studying for them meant no last minute cramming for the exams. Lowest Quiz and Exam Scores Dropped. She takes the time to make sure everyone understands what she is teaching
Prof. Gita is the best teacher at Fullerton College by far. She takes the time to make sure you understand what your learning. The weekly quizzes and the study guide are enormously helpful for studying for the test. Even if you do not like bio....she can teach you the gist of it.
She is the best. I'm not even good at English, but she is very very patient and helpful. She gives sutdents an easy quiz before each class, and sets many study groups which help a lot. She encourages everyone to ask her questions. Biology itself is not a easy class, so you need to study and review in order to get an A. Take her class!!!
PROFESSOR GUYS IS AMAZING,I WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER PROFESSOR,THIS IS MY FIRST BIOLOGY CLASS EVER AND I'M DOING GREAT ALL THANKS TO HER.SHE IS VER HELPFUL AND GOES A GREAT PACE! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
great teacher. lots of small quizzes that only help your grade. does study sessions before every exam. she like an awesome high school teacher, cares for you and your grade, and will do anything to try to help out. do the study guides, they are almost copies of the test.
Professor Gita is the greatest professor who will take the time to help you with anything that you don't understand. she is very patient and is organized as well. If you do the work, you will definitely get an easy A. She is definitely the easiest biology teacher you will ever have.
BEST PROF especially if you never took a Bio class. She will sit with you through her lunch break if you need help. Offers study sessions, study guides. It is not an easy A- ITS A 5 UNIT class BUT she keeps lecture interesting, is very caring, nice, respectful. HELPFUL, understanding. Its work but definitely take her- she enjoys teaching & it shows
Take environmental science if you can. You're lucky if you get a C.
She's an ok teacher She dosnt give extra credit :/ which I is not fair bc many studnts really put a lot of effort to the class but bc its too much material its obvious ull miss some quest which r worth many points she is picky gradin. grades bsed on 5 test, quizes and lab reports try not to take alot of classes if ur takin bio ull need 2 study alot
I wasn't looking forward to this class but after I started to take it I really enjoyed it. at first it was hard understand her but after the first couple of weeks it gets better. she is extremely nice and understanding. she is willing to work with you. but you must attend class and lab. you wont regret taking it with her
Prof Nilkanth is one of the best. This class is a 5 Units so work hard. If you don't know how to study, you will after this class. She provides powerpoints/outlines. Print them and write good notes. Use Quizlets and go over the material again and again frontward and backwards. If you do you'll get a good grade. This class is not an easy A.
She's very nice and sweet but her class can be tough. Too much material to study for, like all bio classes. She gives weekly quizzes and I love the way she teaches lab. She offers group study sessions a lot and they help prepare for the tests. She also sends notes outline that are basically a study guide for exams. SO STUDY & SHOW UP OR FAIL.
Overall, Ms. Nilkanth is a great professor! She is super helpful and honestly wants students to pass. She holds study sessions every week, which is really helpful. Lab was a lot of fun and really interesting. Honestly the hardest class I have ever taken, though. Expect to do a lot of studying!
Best science teacher ever! She motivates students and sometimes applies lectures in real life so we can understand better. Quiz and tests are from the study guide she gave out, I did not read book and still did good on quiztest. Should take her ;)
Dr. Nilkanth is the best professor ever! She explains everything thoroughly & holds study sessions every week. The diagrams on the exams are difficult, but if you really study you'll be fine! I was afraid to take this class at first, but I did really good & learned so much! Take Bio 101 w- Dr. Nilkanth!!!
Best professor I've had so far!! She's gives very clear lectures. Take good notes and follow the study guides for your quizzes and exams. You need to work for your grade in this class, and the material is tough. Ask a lot of questions and you'll do fine. Stay on top of your studying. It's easy to fall behind!!
She is amazing and really helpful with weekly study groups and office hours, but the class was hard and the exams are very exact, but she tells you exactly what she expects so no surprises!!
I loved her, definitely got me to like biology even more and really does care about her students. She has study sessions and offers her office hours all the time for anyone who needs help. Quizzes are right out of the book & her outlines. Tells you what to study for the tests & lab is an easy grade as long as you show up!
she was quite clear in her lectures but her tests were really hard
She has clear lectures but she is a tough grader. The multiple choice part of it is pretty easy its just the write in where it gets hard! quizzes almost everyday, not so hard. Study and read the book and you'll do fine. Super clear lectures! Cares about her students as well. For some odd reason she is pretty funny.
This class is definitely not an easy A, but she knows her biology. She makes the subject fun and interesting. Her lectures are very long, but if you pay attention and try you will succeed.
(A) Professor Gita does an excellent job at teaching Evolution and Systematics however she's terrible at teaching systems and plants. She basically gives you charts and gives a vague explanation but expects you to know and give and in depth explanation on the test. Lab and lec exam are long cause she expect she you to know everything
(B) There's Weekly quizzes in Lecture and Lab which are helpful. She makes chapter outlines which would be helpful but half of the stuff are on the exam. Overall prof Gita is a decent prof. She expects a lot from her students. She's pretty straight forward which can come off as her being mean but I admire that.
Lets start off by saying, this isnt an easy class. Its not that the material is hard, it just there is SO much of it. so cramming for this class is a big no no. but as far as the professor goes, Professor Gita is a blessing of a teacher for this class. She really does explain things clearly and her tests are very fair! Definite recommendation.
Professor gita is definitely one of the best professors in fullerton to take bio170 with, her tests aren't unreasonably tricky and pretty straight forward as long as you know all the material. She provides quizzes which prepares you for the exam, sometimes recycled questions from the quiz can even be on the exam too, she wants students to succeed
Professor Gita is THE professor to take BIO 170 with. Although the material itself is memorization heavy, she helps us remember the material through connecting it in class and mnemonics. Record the lectures low key if you can. Also, studying the free response questions she tells you is most (80%?) of the multiple choice. Go to office hours!!!
Let me just tell you- do not take her if you are planning on breezing by with an easy A. She is probably the best teacher i've ever had and actually makes you work for your grade. Put in effort, take notes, listen to her lectures and you'll be fine. Quizzes are based off her lectures
STAY AWAY FROM HER !!!!!! SHE IS TOUGH AND GIVE SO MUCH MATERIAL, SHE IS HELPFUL AND SWEET BUT SHE IS BRUTAL !!!!!!!!!
There is no hw given so you really have to study hard for the tests but since you only have your outlines as a study guide you dont know what's really going to be on the test. This class is NOT an easy A or B. There is quizzes every week. I wouldn't take this class if you can't spend most of your time studying for it.
Asked students to memorize hundreds of charts and vocabulary by the end of class, she has a very strong accent and is very difficult to understand. She moves very quickly, and does not give study guides. Went to get help after class and she talked down to me like I was stupid for not knowing "basic" materials already. TAKE BIO 101 FIRST.
Gita is a great professor, very passionate about the subject. However, the class itself is extremely difficult. She expects you to know everything and she is a really tough grader. If you don't have a biology background make sure you take bio 101 before taking this class. Lots of information.
This teacher thinks her class should be a full time job, (40 hours a week), and quote "The only way you'll get an A is if you memorize every single thing."
LOVE HER! The class is not easy. There is SO much material. She emails a lecture outline & slideshows for each chapter. I used these to make a study guide & brought this to class & filled in the info from her lecture. She explains everything you need to know during lecture. She gives a quiz every week to encourage studying. I got an A.
Study a lot for the quizzes and tests. She checks attendance every day. There is a little bit of extra credit. worst test and quiz is dropped at the end.
She's a great teacher and has a lot of love for her students always making study groups for everyone after lectures. She also checks attendance every class and honestly it is huge help if you read the book that and doing the outlines are keys to acing the quizzes/ exams.
Professor Nilkanth is one of the best professors I've ever had. She has weekly quizzes based on the chapter studied the previous week. Take good notes during her lectures! She emails the lectures but it's easier to retain information by writing it down yourself. She's a nice lady and cares very much for her students. STUDY HARD for exams.
Great professor, will constantly ask the class to ask questions if you dont understand something. Has study sessions after class which helps getting prepared for exams or better understand of a subject. Has weekly quizzes, but if you study should be easy. Exams are basically all the quizzes combined with extra questions. Would recommend to anyone.
This class has been one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. She's an amazing professor and REALLY prepares you for heavy science classes. Gives you a basic outline to study for tests/quizzes. She taught me how to properly study for these types of classes. YOU CAN NOT CRAM!!! I tried 3 times, its a BIG NO!
I have always gotten A's and B's, but no matter what I did I could not pass anything in this class. She is a good professor, very helpful, but her teaching style just wasn't working for me. Labs are easy. If you have any other time consuming things I wouldn't recommend this class. Extremely tough but if you pass this, you can pass anything.
Over 1/2 the class dropped. I dont think its just reflectant on the professor. Shes great! Shes kind and organized. Shes easy to reach outside of class/via email. The subject is just difficult. It sucks she doesnt offer extra credit nor drops the lowest test score. She doesnt give back tests/quizzes to study. You need a strong Bio background.
Got a good grade in the class but the class was REALLY boring. The professor is a really hard grader and takes off points for no reason. No extra credit and does not drop anything. Possible to get an A in the class but you will need to work really hard. Read the textbook even though she does not say you need to. NOT AN EASY A!!!!!!!!
Gita is an amazing professor. She really cares about the subject and her students. She relates the subject to real life and gives many techniques on how to help remember and learn the material. She is always available for extra help and even does extra study sessions. One of the best professors that I have taken in Fullerton College.
Amazing professor! She really cares about her students. She is really enthusiastic about the subject as well. She is available at her office hours and study sessions. You can get an A, but you have to put in a lot of work. She makes the class memorable. If you can do well in this class, you will be able to do well in any other class you take.
Took her classes in sophomore year. She was really mean, had to drop her class because of her attitude. Couldn't stand her negativity.
This is the first science course I have taken at Fullerton College and it was enjoyable just very heavy In material. I admit I did not put in full effort and I currently have a C before the final exam, the lowest test and quiz drop, so i'm hoping the final will save me. The lectures are pretty heavy as expected in science but they aren't boring.
Prof Gitanjali is an incredible professor. I loved her class and lectures. She really cares about you if you work hard and participate in the class. She will encourage and push you to get better grades in the class. Though she is a hard grader and her quizzes and exams are way too hard, it only prepares you for the futur. Her labs were really easy.
This professor is a really tough grader. She very heavily scrutinized many labs and took points of for the same reason. Other than labs, here grading criteria for her exams are very extreme and expects her students to know everything. I do not recommend taking professor for BIO170.
She's not that bad but irked me when I asked her on how to study, she told me I should at least put 4 hrs into to her class. I told her that it was not possible because Student/work full time, so I asked if she knew which areas I should focus on since I don't have time to do 4 hours. Instead of helping me out, she said I should find time to study
For her, participation in class matters a lot. Many people are introverts, like me. She favors those that participate more. She also grades exams very harshly, the free response section is like "all or nothing". She takes points of if she thinks it is not relevant to the topic.
She expects students to memorize many charts and vocabulary by the end of class. She also says that this class is like learning a new language. She moves very quickly, and does not give study guides. Went to get help after class and she talked to me like I was stupid for not knowing basic information.
Her grading criteria is very unclear, and varies according to her convenience. She seems to have a lot of negative vibes. She grades the labs very hard too. She always commented on my drawings, and that its not what it looks like under the microscope.
The class is extremely difficult. She expects you to know everything and she is a really tough grader. The class is doable without taking BIO 101, but that requires a lot of studying outside the class time. She says the class is a like a "full time job"
If you can't learn from professors with accents, do not take this class. Attending her office hours are basically useless, she does NOT help. Instead of helping you learn the material she tells you you're not good enough. This is by far the worst teacher I have ever taken in every aspect.
I don't know how this teacher as a 4/5. This is the worst teacher I have ever taken. She is so negative when you attend her office hours I just stopped going. Instead of helping me understand the material she just tells me I'm studying incorrectly. Save your GPA and do not take this class.
I really recommend you get her. I took her online for covid. She has her lectures online. Have plenty of time to see the lecture recordings. Class time is for questions and review of lecture. Always available during office hours and is very knowledable of the subject. The only downside is that her tests are on lockdown browser.
She's a good professor & knows how to teach. However, her exams & weekly quizzes could be tough. She is very picky in the free responses & lab reports. She is a kind & sort of helpful person if you are willing to participate in class & attend office hours. She says this class is like a full-time job so I'm going to grind these last few days to pass
I really dont understand how this teacher is even is a college professor. She doesnt help in any way. No homeworks given only tests and hard quizez. She grades in a bad way. And she thinks that if you get one info that she didnt say that you are cheating cuz god forbids you know info. She was good with me till she saw me wearing a hijab. DONT DO IT
This class is not going to be easy. If you like biology you will like this class. Watch lectures, dont hesitate to ask questions. Professor is very helpful if you go to office hours. You will need to spend at least 3-4 hours outside class time to get an A.
You need to study weekly and pay attention during lecture to pass. Her tests are pretty difficult but not impossible to pass. With the help of tutoring I was able to get a B. If you want an A i suggest going to SI and office hours and stay on top of notes and studying
This class was hecka hard. Professor is nice and tries to be helpful but there is just so much material to learn. Weekly quizzes. For tests there is a mc section and a free response sec. She wants very specific answers and will deduct if she thinks it's non relevant. Participation matters. Lots of studying. Class started with 27 ppl and endedwith 3
she's kind but dont be fooled. she gives a lot of information, you have to learn the material then be able to apply it in the quizzes/exams. weekly quizzes, free response on exams are hard she doesn't give examples but expects a perfect essay. she doesn't go easy on you she expects you to be able to do all the work. makes it hard to get good grade
be prepared for a hard class, but it's doable. A lot of material to learn, but her lectures are very informational. attendance isn't mandatory, but I don't recommend skipping lectures. make sure to know the material given in class because most exam/quiz questions are applied questions and not straightforward. good teacher, you will learn a lot
BUY THE TEXTBOOK! I never needed to attend office hours or tutoring for this class. The reason why I got an A in the class was because I used the textbook and studied thoroughly. Tests are predicable and really not that hard if you know the information. I know theres many negative reviews, but this class is easy compared to other STEM classes.
It's very much a doable class, but make sure you have great time management and strong study skills before you attempt this class. She is very accessible outside of class and genuinely wants students to succeed, but the course material is cumbersome and tough so take advantage of time with her. Not everyone passes or finishes, but it's possible!
Professor Nilkanth shows great interest for biology and always expresses it however she does not update her material she teaches in class and outside resources will help you understand the subject than she does. She can get very judgemental and be prepared to be called on. Study quizzes as what she puts in the review is nothing on the quizzes.
Professor Nilkanth shows clear and admirable interests about biology however you need to use alot of outside resources to understand her lectures as her review sheets do not match with her quizzes. She can get very judgemental which causes students to not particpate due to fear of embarrassment. Attendance is very important because its your grade..
BUY THE TEXTBOOK. The professor has a strong passion for BIO but I felt like most the lectures didn't prepare us for the quizzes. Will definitely need outside sources. As long as you read the chapters in the textbook before each quiz you'll be fine. The quizzes are fairly easy and the exams are literally all the quizzes from the chapter out togethr
I seen some bias reviews. But in clear-hind sight, you get what grade you deserve in this class. Because if you really want to study hard and learn the material, you will definitely get an A. She also is kind and I'm pretty sure she cares about her students doing well, but her material could get messy sometimes. You need to get the book and study.
Instead of helping her students, she blames them for not spending enough time outside of class studying. Her teaching style is boring and she lectures the entire period, skipping breaks while her students get restless. Towards the end of the class, she just suggests failing students to retake the class with another, instead of bettering her skills.
I could see why some students may complain about the difficulty of the class. One exam had 8 chapters included in one test, and required hours and hours of studying. But in my opinion I really enjoyed her lectures. She is obviously intelligent, so she speaks quickly and explains difficult topics as if it is common sense. Be prepared to take notes.
This professor might be one of the most uncaring professors i've ever taken. She blames you for anything you mess up on and treats any questions in lecture like a threat. She treats this class like a full time job.I do have to say she is very educated and knows her material but If you want the best for your mental health, stay away from this class.
Prof Gita is very caring only if you show her dedication. She's perfectly educated and has answers for any question you might have. She's always accessible out of class, office hours, study sessions. She responds to emails quickly. However, her class is VERY tough! She expects you to memorize every single detail she says. Not an easy grader either.
The lecture is exactly what's on the exams. Suggest writing notes from the lecture slides in essay form to really get material. Take notes all throughout class.
It was a difficult class but I think you get the grade that you put in the work for. She truly cares about the subject and her students! Record her lectures because thats the best study guide and exactly what is on the tests. Review the textbook before/after class. Attend office hours. Every single detail and word matters on written portions.
Do not take this course with her
Took her last year and looking back, she was a tough grader and harsh at times but she is just being real (this class is not for the weak and IS a weeder class). Go to her office hours as she will help you with insight on outside school life, content, etc, plus anything to make the content stick... one of the most difficult classes ever.
This class was rough. Dr. Nilkanth can be a very kind woman, but she is a tough grader. She has a strong passion for biology, and has high expectations for all of her students especially in essay portion. Study sessions and tutoring are VERY helpful, but be prepared to study often.
