funny,nice,hard tests,answers questions,friendly,curves tests,italian,good guy
funny but very hard, hard tests, hard to get an A
This teached totally screwed me over! He 'accidentally' dropped me in the second week for NO reason and never told me! He also refused to help students in the class that asked for extra tutoring. BEWARE!
WORST TEACHER EVER! Doesn't speak English, doesn't teach material, wants to fail everyone, STAY AWAY! Take mcGraw

Best teacher for statistics. Makes class fun. His tests are hard but he curves a loooot. Funny guy. would recommend him to anyone.

Horrible accent, confusing tests(has bad English gramar); I spent more time trying to figure out what he was saying on the test than solving the problem. Nice guy, but it was difficult to comprehend; I dropped the class.

statistics is a difficult course for many students. kinda unfair to blame the professor for it. if you are strong in statistics, this class will be a cakewalk as he curves the exams and MANY students will score low.
If you do the work, you'll do well. His tests are less than 10 questions and the harder of these questions come directly from the text word for word. He always asks at the beginning of the class if people need any clarification, ASK THEN!!!!

Dropped it the first week. Accent really is difficult, and moves through the material quickly. One of the least helpful teachers I've ever had. He knows he's tough, though, and he jokes about it. Not worth the effort for IGETC. Take a different teacher.
The best math 7 teacher at smc. He made calculus extremely easy and he is very nice too. What are these guys below me tlking about.
Hes a GOOD Teacher but demanding to the extreme level. You'll learn Stats but you better be ready to study for AT LEAST 14 hrs a week IF you want an A. He curves the tests. DISO and GIRLS CRYING.
not very good, don't take if you need to pass
This class to be very challenging. Am I learning statistics? YES. If you are want to learn something and will do the work needed to gain knowledge, this class is excellent. HRH is a very passionate teacher and desires for all of his students to le
Fantastic instructor, IF YOU DO THE HOMEWORK and follow along in class. Yes his accent is thick, but he really teaches real world stuff. HIGHLY recommended. And his bark is MUCH worse than his bite.
DONT DO IT TO YOURSELF. PLEAS PLEAS PLEAS PLEAS............... DONT DONT
This class was very hard. He even made us write an essay on what epsilon is using delta. I dropped the class before he assigned more essays. It's a math class!! If you're very good at math, then take him. Keyword is VERY.
One of the greatest teacher in SMC. Lecture is good , if you study you can get A.. at least B.
Bad , bad and bad.......... dont do it .........
The people that don't like this teacher didn't study and couldn't handle him. He's a damn good teacher and he has soo much compassion for his students even though he acts like he doesn't. I PROMISE. He's gonna try to scare you by saying is's a hard class, but he's only trying to scare the weak. =)
Good guy. Just doesn't want anyone there who is not going to work hard. Good humor as well, and a player with the ladies. I think he really knows his stuff, and wants you to do well. Curve can help a D student get a C.
very bbbbbbbbaaaaaaaadddddddddd

He is a great teaccher and if you are having trouble, he will help you until you understand the problem. He has a very thick accent and is sometimes hard to understand but he is funny, quirky, smart, and nice. He is tough but he will help you.
I took the 8-week course, which I hear is easier than the full semester course. Not enough time is given for most exams, but they are curved. There is a project that is kind of tedious. He is very helpful and entertaining. Italian accent can sometimes be hard to understand.
I had mixed feelings about this guy. He WILL try to scare the weak away. He IS only interested in people who want to work very hard (especially in 8 week). He IS an a-hole. So only take him if u are motivated.
Great guy... will scare you off, but will help you anytime. Clear explanation.
He is the worst teacher at SMC. Do not take his class if you want an A in statistics. His projects are horrible and his tests came from Mars.

He gives a really difficult exams with nothing to do with the text. take other prof. instead.
NEXT!!!
Don't take his class if you want to get an A. only 1~2 people can get an A and about 15 people can pass out of 45 or so people in his class.
This class is extremely hard (mostly tests), but the professor is a person not a robot. So if you are having trouble he will listen and help you out. He does curve the tests but don't rely too much on it. I hardly ever do homework, but in this class I did homework at least 3 hours on school days. Just be ready to work to pass this class.
he is hard and his tests have nothing to do with the homework problems, but he's determined to make students think mathematically, without relying on examples from the book. he's also very funny and has a charming accent.
this guy will make sure you know statistics. if you take anyone else at SMC u will be unprepared for a university. study and listen as well as participate in class and u will do well. i got an "A' and all it took was a little effort.

he can't explain anything and also his test are not hard. the question are not clear
Very good teacher of statistics. Explains things thuroughly through his thick accent. Is not strict about much of anything and has a great sense of humor. Truly works hard to make you understand the material. Tests are not easy but what statistics class has easy tests? I took this class in HS and didnt understand at all. He cleared many things up.
Tough and he'll try to scare people away in the first few sessions, but a good instructor. If you let him know that you don't understand something he'll work with you until you do. Has somewhat of a thick accent though. So if you have trouble with accents he is not a good choice.

Thisis the worst math teacher I've ever had in my entire life. When I asked for help he laughed it off, I ended up failing the course and taking the next course up the next sememster and getting an A in a class that was supposed to be harder.
Mr D is NOT easy and hates slackers! He IS a very well-meaning man. He wants to see you try. He is generally in the Math-Lab and likes to help, and he is VERy good about answering Emails. Don't draw comics in class, he will lose respect for you! Very generous curve! Definitely try your best, and attend his SUNDAY study groups where he personally is
The worst teacher ever. He is rude and he is not very helpful.
dont take this teacher if you care about your gpa
He sucks!!
he clearly did not become a teacher to help students , he is just here to get paid.Horrible teacher , can be funny at times , most of time he is very biased against other races and women.
First of all very challenging class. He is a good instructor if you study otherwise don't insult his intelligence by showing up and expecting to pass. If you fail it's not because he didn't like you or whatever, but because you aren't trying hard enough. That's just my honest opinion.
ABSOLUTE WORST math prof EVER.Simply doesnt know how to teach math.TOTALLY unclear;accent makes it even WORSE-Hard 2 believe SMC can have him teach a course thats 90% WORD PROBLEMS!Constant **** & **** comments.1 wk before end of semester,he asked the class to sign a letter of recommendation for him to get a full-time position-TOTALLY UNETHICAL
THIS GUY THINKS THE CLASSROOM IS A COMEDY CLUB FOR HIS TACKY UN-FUNNY JOKES. IF YOU ARE GOOD AT MATH, YOU'LL SURVIVE. OTHERWISE, YOU'LL SINK. VERY POOR TEACHING SKILLS, HE ASSUMES THE STUDENTS ALREADY KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. SHORT QUIZ BEFORE EACH CLASS. HE WILL CALL ON STUDENTS TO GO TO THE BOARD AND SOLVE PROBLEMS WHETHER YOU WANT TO OR NO
Tough class but a fair curve. MUST do all the h/w & attend Sun. pre-exam study sessions. Consistently answers e/m and is very helpful. Ask Qs in class; he'll always answer even if he seems a little intimidating at first. If you're unwilling to work hard, this isn't the class for you. Professor demands excellence.
A very tough professor. If you are not willing to study and do all the homework, and ask questions, then this is not the instructor for you. Though during the summer has only sunday pre-exam sessions, but is willing to answer questions, despite being intimidating. He may seem bigoted but he is really just ignorant when it comes to other races.
Makes the class more difficult than need be. Makes you do a 200 person survey which accounts for a large portion of your grade. Verrrrry confusing when giving lecture. Bad accent makes it hard to understand. Avoid taking if you actually want to pass.
I missed the first day of class bc sick, came the second, found out we had a midterm, asked to be excused from midterm for one day, he said no, i asked him how we chould have a midterm on the second day of class, he took one look at me and walked away. Later he told me he'd drop me if I missed another day. So I dropped.
If you can solve all the problems in the text, you'll get an A like I did.
He's funny and a nice guy but his teaching can be weird and sometimes he doesn't make sense.
if you care about ur GPA, do NOT take his class.. he gave us alot of work! .. only 2 or 3 students got an A in my class.. most of the students dropped the class!
Came into my clss as a sub.MY GOD wut an awful tchr. Here's why:U R not on a stage or supposed 2B haughty about knowing all the answers-YOU'RE SUPPOSED 2 TEACH them.Terrible comm skills unclear lecture(jumpingaround)expects U2 know in 2 sec & derides U if U are wrong.1rst time I spoke all smster was 2 tell him 2 try explaining instead of yelling.I am astonished theylet teachers like this teach.
I came in on the 2nd day of class and took a midterm also. But I ended up loving the class. He's really cool and easy to get along with. You don't want to miss a class because there's a lot of info that is taught in one class. It goes by really fast. I enjoyed it a lot. He likes coffee and *hot chocolate, so you can bring him that. =)
Della Rocca is a great teacher. However, this accelerated class is not for slackers. If you don't have an aptitude for math, don't take the class. The pace is crazy. Always go to class. Go to his hours in Math lab if you need help. He is very patient and will make sure you understand. Do the exam prep & go to the Sunday study sessions.
took Mr. Della Rocca and i must say that his accent made it difficult for me to comprehend the lesson. Also he teaches his own way rather than in the book, for me that was the most stressful thing because i had a textbook that suited no purpose. made simple things more complex and explained them in a prolonged way instead of getting 2 the point.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I should have dropped it when I had the chance last Fall. He is Funny however he is hard to understand, and he goes too fast. If only he would just go by the book instead of giving you problems off the top of his head that are not even in the book, his class would'nt be so complicated and 90% of the students would'nt fail.
this guy......is one of the best teachers i've had in my entire life. He really cares about his students. Like, if you go to EVERY class, do your homework, ask questions and attend the sunday study session, you'll pass. The surevey he has you do is fun also. He's a nice and funny guy. He LOVES coffee and chocolate. Best math teacher ever.
I took his class a while ago, but now I'm taking upper level stat (a psych major requirement) and managing in the class only because he was such a great teacher. Yes he is very difficult at first, and you ALWAYS need to do the homework, but you will leave the class with an excellent understanding of statistics. If you work hard and show involvem
i'm taking stats right now and i think he's one of the best math professors at SMC. Just do the homework (he'll ask to see it later in the semester) and go to class + sunday sessions and you'll be alright. He tries to scare the students away the first week, but he is a really nice and funny person! love him! highly recommend.
I passed Math 21,23,24,7,8 with A’s and B’s, but got a D in this guys class simply because he didn’t like me. Not enough time on the test, have to enter 400 data into your TI83 for one problem, will not give partial credit even if you picked the right formula and got the final conclusion right because you were off by a hundredth of a decimal.
WARNING!WORST PROF EVER!45ppl class 10 ppl stay and DROP YOU SECRETLY&pretend to be friend with you. TESTS are extremly hard+tricky, not enough time, run lecture quick,,thick accent, selfish, not helpful, unclear,SICK.summer lecture having 30 min break.only 30 min lecture&work on your own.sunday class is BS.TRUST ME! Don't waste ur money and time!
I got An A. Just pay Attetion ask questions. His Homework assingments from the book was the quiz part from the end of chapter but usually has his own homework he gives
Highly reccomended but be prepared. Runs class with an iron fist! Some students can't handle this. Much of it is for show and you'll find he's a really nice guy. Hours of homework, pop quizzes, tests you can't finish, 4 hour study sessions on Sundays...Try hard, never give up and you will (probably) pass.
All you need to do is to get along with a professor and be friend and work hard. 45 students enrolled and 13 stayed.Because the test is kinda hard but if you follow his lecture and study on materials, you will do well! Make sure to attend Sunday study group session. He is very friendly and nice person. Recommend him strongly
I dropped out of fall semester right before the first "real" test. (He does a lame "midterm" second week of class which is more like a quiz. Most people do awfully on it. I thought most of his blather was hype and "all would be well in the end". I am an A student and couldn't keep up with the class.. alot of people found him helpful. I didn't.
he is the best math teacher i have ever had even though english is his second language he has a great way of explaining different math procedures to help you understand and learn the material
Get ready to work! I never saw myself as a math person but did very well in his accelerated Statistics course. Be ready to do the work and show up for class and study groups. You will be fine!
really good teacher; dedicated to helping you and kind of hard to understand. he explains everything very well, but makes everything so much harder than it should be (comparing to friends who took other professors). not worth it if you want to pass.
This professor says he wants to help his students but he has no respect for those within the classroom. I had a lot of faith, but he is an ingrate. He is unprofessional and rigid when it comes to grading. He also did not keep his WORD when he said he would replace my old test grade with a new one. He is a coward and a liar.
THE most worthless teacher I've ever had. He's rude, boring, refuses to slow down, and his lectures aren't even reflected on his tests. 90% of what are on his tests are based on the book, which he RARELY ever goes over. Think of it like this: the class started full (about 30-40); a little past the first month, only about 10 students remained.
Dellarocca is not a good teacher at all. He is unorganized and does not convey the material well. In class, he does not explain the meaning behind anything and simply throws a bunch of numbers at you and expects you to deliver. His lessons are confusing and during class he is rude and inconsiderate. I only got a B+ because I read the book a lot.
Terrifying professor, seriously, if you care about your GPA at all, don't take his class. And unless you pass yourself as an autodidact, don't take the class either, you literally teach yourself the subject matter.
Read reviews on this site &I thought the bad reviews were due2 lazy students,i was wrong. He didn't look@ the book so when he tested us he just made stuff up.No Lecture,Lots of Homework,Hard test,No structure, makes u do a Geometry book on defs., theorems, postulates(waste of time.Ruined my GPA.I enjoy math but this has been a horrible experience.
this teacher are difficult if a student has extra time on their time then yes they can pass the class since he had bad experiences teaching his prev students he decided to not have a curriculum all he did was have us copy def postulate axioms and theories everyother odd for hw his test were difficult & hewould help but very tactless pleas avoid
This professor pushes you to learn more than what is required. He prepares you 4 the next math class rather than just settling for what needs to be done now. His work isn't easy, it will work your mind to exhaustion. I established confidence & had fun in his class. He takes time on Sunday to work with students in a study group, that is dedication.
EXCELLENT teacher. yes, he is somewhat brusque. talk while he's teaching and you WILL get yelled at. the class is HARD but you will learn far more than from any other instructor. you will also gain confidence and leave his class enjoying math.
this guy shouldnt be teaching anywhere.he yells at students ,covers material not relevant to math 84,ill tempered.talks bad about other professors.dont take him!take prof hecht or prof green
LIFE IS NOT EASY DELAROOCA IS JUST DO EVERYTHING EVEN LAB AND YOU WILL PASS THIS CLASS HEY TALK TO YOU ONE ON ONE TO GET YOU WHERE YOU HAVE TO BE AT THIS IS A GREAT TEACHER IF YOU DONT LIKE MATH YOU WILL LOVE IT I KNOW CAUSE I USE TO HATE IT ALL THE TIME BUT NOT I LOVE IT AND MADE THE OTHER CLASS EASY
Ever have a Professor show up on a Sunday at a coffee shop to help students with homework? Didn't think so. This guy does. He is a good person, what makes him happy is to see the student learn and the light bulb to turn on. He is passionate about helping students succeed not only in his class, but beyond.
HELL NO! HE WOULD SAY. THIS TEACHER TELLS YOU ON THE SPOT TO CHECK HERE FOR HIM. SHOWS YOU HE KNOWS. THIS PRO KNOWS HIS STUFF, GLAD TO HAD TAKEN HIM
He's rude and is not helpful at all! He's probably just doing this job for the money, and could care less about teaching. At least that's what comes across in his attitude.
This guy shouldnt be teaching,he should be on mood enhancers, working at the docks or kicking rocks
This prof may seem rude and crazy at first but get to know him; he is funny and Extremely helpful. His class isnt easy bc he actually cares if students are learning. Show up, do your work even if you hate math youll learn more from him than all your other math classes combined. He has study group sundays! I feel much more confident and I thank him!
when i took this class i hated math and had been out of school for almost 5 years. i knew nothing... he tought me everything. he really excells in helping students understand the operations. the class meet once a week. i learned more than most classes that meet 5 times a week. also not a boaring guy to listen to. high recommendation.
He's a great. You have to get use to Italian accent. He might hurt your feelings If you have thin skin, you probably will cry. But if you're smart enough you will realize he's just a funny guy and just trying to be comfortable with his students. He's a great teacher and helped me learn a lot! He moves fast so make sure you tell him to slow down!
Giulio Dellarocca is the best math professor ever! Honestly, if you really want to learn he is the guy. He wants you to see him as strict teacher but is he is NOT! he will explain everything till you get it, he always tells how to think and that makes his teaching so unique. I loved his class, and for the next time ?We can take it outside?
Good guy and knows his stuff. He cares about his students but sometimes he just makes the class do work for the entire time rather than lecturing. Overall, he's a good teacher but not an easy A. You're going to have to work relatively hard to do well in his class.
this guy does not teach anything do not take him. he is the worst professor i ever had in my life. he write the simplest example on the board and does not explain how to get it, and he will give you the hardest problem that is not even covered in the homework. he should be fired!!
Amazing professor! Very helpful in the tough love kind of way. He teaches the material very clearly and always asks if there are any questions! Ask questions if you dont understand something! He will tell you when you "screw up" and help you figure it out. One quiz, a midterm and a final. The hw is easy and there is one quiz, a midterm and a final.
I expected to hate this class, but actually loved it. The professor has a shamelessly rude sense of humor, but he teaches really well. Textbook is difficult to understand, so it was better to read it after the professor covers material. Quizzes and tests are hard, but he gives extra credit. He encourages to ask questions if we dont understand.
This professor is an organized person's nightmare. He never lectures and expects you to teach yourself everything out of your book, then come class time, he works on 2 problems that are unrelated. Luckily, I am good at teaching myself so I got an A, but there are a lot of people that really struggled to pass.Only take him if you can teach yourself.
Worst "prof" I've ever had in my life. Wastes time, assigns every problem evens&odds from the book bc he doesn't even know what to teach. Then, text Q's are different concepts not covered in the book that he barely xplains and you can't even understand what he's asking. Not clear. Unorganized. LAZY teacher that should be fired asap.
This was a self taught class. He told us for homework take notes on every section and every chapter. We also had to do every question of every section of every chapter. during lecture he would go over 1 or 2 questions we had. wording on test are usually unclear. everyone failed the final. somewhat helpful, but this is really a teach yourself class.
He came to class 30 min early every day. Class was hard, but it was so you really had to know the material to pass. Anyone that failed deserved it. He focused on effort, not just if your answer matched his. If you got a different answer, he always check your work to see if it was still another correct answer. Calc2 is a hard class, can't blame him.
This professor makes you think! I love math and was in love with his teaching style. He will explain the main concepts of the chapter in one lecture, then you do the homework, then you do a practice worksheet that is similar to how the quizzes and tests are set up. Show up every class and actually do the homework and you will pass.
As others have posted, be prepared to teach yourself because he doesn't lecture and teach concepts. If you haven't taken the class before, you are probably better off finding another professor. It would have been nice if he actually had the textbook. We had exam questions on concepts we hadn't studied yet.
He is very helpful and funny. His class was very fun and you can ask him for help. He enjoys his job and takes the time to explain things. Fairly easy. Leaves lots of homework everyday. As long as he sees improvement from when you started the class to the end, he will pass you
