He lets you rewrite every paper after you turn it in. There is very little homework, his topics can be very interesting.
He lets you rewrite all your papers and the class is very fun. We got to work in groups a lot. He also grades very easy even if you do not get A’s on all your papers you can get a 4.0 in the class. The topics we write about are interesting and easy and
Really good teacher. You write about 5 papers, and you basically choose the topic. He explains everything and really helps out the students. Fair grader and you can rewrite all your papers. Take him for RHT 150!!
He makes writing papers a joy
Glen is super weird but he's tight
He makes funny faces!
He's a fun teacher, but you won't score over a 3.0 on a paper. It's an enjoyable class, mostly discussion and interactive activities.
He is my favorite teacher here at Oakland. I had him a year a go and I just had to tell people to take him. He knows a lot about writing and music. He's a fun nice guy and if you try in his class you will do well. Take ARMSTRONG!
It turned out Armstrong was a pretty cool teacher, the essays I had to write weren't too narrow in their scope, so I had plenty of wiggle room, and although his grading was kind of harsh, there was always the option of rewriting every paper for a better grade.
Armstrong is the best teacher there is at OU, as far as I've seen. Not only is he extremely knowledgable and insightful in the ways of writing, but he also knows how to rock you. Mention Barry White and Serge Gainsbourg in your essays and you'll be set for an easy A.
At first appears to be a 'different' type of teacher, but by the end of the semester he was my favorite teacher
glen rules. he met mick jagger, so you know what that means. he lets you write essays about cool stuff most of the time and he's kind of hip. three thumbs up.
Okay, I didn't have him at Oakland, but I still want to rate him. haha. I hate him for 101 at Mott. He's a very hard grader, but for me that was GREAT. I'm an English major and went from C papers to A papers by the end. So you DO learn. His assignments are very open ended, and although he's a tough grader, you can redo things for better grades.
His class was very informal, but we learned so much. Hes such an awesome teacher I wish I could take it again.
Glen was a cool teacher. But don;t expect to get a 3.0 on a paper though. I thought he was **** and **** at first but then I got to know him and I discoered that he's just a super hard teacher. (But a damn good one)
He is a nut. His teaching style sucks and he goes against everything that you have learned in privious years. He never grades over a 3.0. He thinks that he is a **** but wait till you see him. Take someone eles, actually anyone eles if possible. You won't learn antything and you'll come out dumber than when you walked in! HE SUCKS!
He's crazy. His style of teaching sucks. He is more confusing then helpful. He never grades higher then a 3 on any papers. Don't take rhetoric with this guy you won't learn anything and you will come out of this class dumber than when when you first started.
He is very laid back. He wants to be his students friends. He says he teaches the class with a pop culture theme, but it turned out to be a pop culture class that you do some writing for. Out of 16 weeks, he taught writing maybe 4 times. If you want a blow off class and do not actually need to know how to write certain types of papers, take him.
The coolest Rhetoric teacher i have ever had. I only wish i had taken his class in 150. Very cool and very interesting. I have had no trouble with his papers as they are on very interesting topics.
This guy is a little wierd, and grades really tough on some papers
don't buy the books, you will not need them at all. but easy class but he grades hard
Hes a very weird teacher but can be cool at times never any homework just papers. Only bad thing is, he does grade kinda hard but as long as your a decent writer you'll pass.
Good teacher. His papers are based on your personal expereince and you can relate to every paper you write. He grades kinda tough but he's always avaliable for help during office hours, he gives you a chance to re write every paper you get to improve your grade. Very approchable outside of class, see him during his office hours, he's very helpful.
He grades hard so be careful! You can re-write your papers but it is impossible to get an A
I do not recomend him at all. His class was boring and I learned nothing about rhetoric. He grades pretty hard and is very unclear about what he is looking for.
Glen is a really cool guy and is easily to relate to His class is kind of boring but fun at time. his theme is pop culture and has alot to do with rock music...so if thats your thing take it. he grades kinda hard but lets you rewrite your paper which is good and clearly tells you what he wants. he is a good teacher to take a class with.
Great teacher, his class was a lot of fun definately my favorite. He lets you chose your topics which allows for more creativity. You can re-write your papers and raise your grade. Definately the teacher to take!
Good guy, helpful, fun. All the good things people have said are true. Yes, tough grader, but rewrites help. Can be ambiguous about what he wants from papers, but that is because he is very liberal about topics. He will act interested in your topic even if he doesn't agree with your viewpoint. Always helpful, always free for questions.
the class was pretty boring most of the time. I found it very difficult to come up with ideas for papers. If you don't know how to go in depth about music then i wouldn't take the class
Cool guy. Difficult grader, but rewrite is allowed for each paper. It can be very hard to understand what he wants in order to make your writing better, so you're kind of on your own there. A low A or a B is very possible here.
He grades pretty hard on the papers, but gives out two rewrites per paper. He lets you choose your topics though. He cracks alot of unwitty jokes. He only makes you read out of one book, which you will write about the next day in a journal entry. It is not hard to do well in the class, just use the rewrites and follow the comments he gives.
How is it impossible to turn in a 4.0 paper? He is a very hard grader and he can't explain why he gives you certain grades. They come out of thin air
He's a really cool, down-to-earth guy. His appearance, although kempt, was ridiculous. He was an effective teacher, but was an extremely, extremely tough grader. My papers always get 3.5 to 4.0, but in his class, my best paper was a 3.1...he's TOUGH.
good teacher, you'll learn how to be a better writer, but if you already think your a good writer before you take his class, prepare for some low grades. you just have to be patient as he grades lighter and lighter on each paper, and the two rewrites always helps, even if it's just a few points. the midterm and finals are easy as well.
He grades your first essay pretty tough, but he gets easier as the course goes on. very good professor, kind of wierd.loves pop culutre. def Recommend this professor, very helpful
Armstrong is awesome. I took him for 150 and had to take him for 160. He has a sense of humor that some people don't understand, but I enjoyed it. He's tough, so don't be a slacker. But he allows rewrites which really help. I'll reccomend him to anyone.
I had this professor for rht 150 and 160...he'll shoot down your first paper pretty hard but gets a lot easier as the class goes on. i learned a lot from armstrong...he's pretty entertaining. allows rewrites on all of his papers and his 160 class is pop culture which is a lot of fun.
Very Very Very Good Professor. He seems like a hard grader but that's only the first essay. I was soo sad when I couldn't take him for WRT160. I learned a lot!
160 course is on pop culture. pretty easy class, about 4 papers and one of them you do audioially
The finest professor i had my freshman year. He was kind, calm and very easy to communicate with on all papers. I had him for both RHT 150 and 160 and if any college freshman arelooking at a professor to take for their writing class, pick Glen Armstong, you wont regret it and he will help you so much.
A genuinely nice person who cares about his students, Glen assigned interesting projects and led thought-provoking classroom discussions. He is an intelligent, patient, and committed teacher, and his class was one of the most memorable I've had at OU.
worst professor ever! in that claass right noe and am failing! he grades wayy to hard for someone who is teaching "pop culture". DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM!!
Unlcear. Favors certain students. Weird projects and papers.
He doesn't know what he's talking about. Ever. It'd be better to learn from a brick wall. At least you understand it.
It depends. If you like writing and being challenged as well as learn how to write a papaer then he's great. If you're totally uninterested in writing or pop-culture then I'd reccomend a different teacher. Participate in class, it definatly helps.
where to start! I loved glen armstrong. He was funny and care free. His class isnt easy there is work but every paper, I felt I could write about something that interested me. His class is pop culture based so it is fun and you get to write about stuff that you actually know about! Great prof! take him!
Dudes a joke.. for sure has favorites in class.. I did notice if you go up to him about not knowing how to do a paper you end up with a good grade even if you bs it. I did all my work and turned it in.. he claimed he never received some of my work which is bs and screwed me over getting a bad gpa and others got a bad gpa to.. NOT a fan of him.
This guy is soooooo easy. you don't get any busy work. The papers you do get do not require much effort. This class is not like the typical college level class, I enjoy coming to this class.
He was a good teacher, just a bit strange. He would laugh at his own "jokes" when no joke was even told. He would say "and you have an assignment due by Sunday at midnight" and proceed to laugh like he told the funniest joke in the world. His class is relatively easy if you apply yourself but his grading is a little off.
Definitely not my favorite professor. His directions are never clear and are vague. Class consists of 4 papers, a midterm, and a final. The only thing I liked was that he gives revisions for all papers.
Was not a fan at all. Yeah, he was pretty chill and I did like that he incorporated multimedia, but overall, he didn't respond to e-mails, was not clear in instruction, nor in the commentary behind the grades he gave. Won't take him again.
Easy class, not the greatest teacher. I thought I would like him in the beginning, but he definitely plays favorites like no other. Not very clear, and some of his grading is definitely questionable. Not good about responding to emails, but overall, not a horrific experience. Just extremely frustrating.
Not very happy with this class at all. Like everyone says, he is a pretty chill guy but his grading system seems inconsistant and his assignments are more of a pain in the butt then anything. I don't recomend his classes at all.
helpful
Overall enjoyed the class. He sometimes is unclear with his explanations but always gives the opportunity to edit papers once and the grade always improves.
Great teacher! not an easy A but will help you for sure and lets you try again on work as long as you turn it in on time. Great balance between learning and having a good time. makes the stuff a blast to learn. Highly recommended to take.
Glen seems like a nice a guy, he is a little strange, but all-in-all this class is pretty easy, especially if you don't mind writing. My biggest complaint is that his feedback usually sucks on your papers and the group project is a killer. I might take him again depending on my options. He does care about you and wants you to succeed.
Awesome professor! If you show him you're trying he will help. He doesn't have favorites, has possible and fun essays, and is an overall nice guy. Would definitely take this class again.
He was vague on a lot of his assignments, so I would have to ask questions on exactly what he was looking for. The group project is the worst is you're stuck with bad people. A hard grader but gives you the chance to revise each essay, though his comments aren't always helpful.
Made this class a lot more difficult than it needed to be, the point of WRT160 is to teach APA format and I didn't learn much of anything about it. He's a very laid back guy but way TOO laid back
If you need to satisfy your knowledge and application gen ed, I highly recommend WRT 386. Even if you consider yourself not a good writer. Prof. Armstrong does a wonderful job at making this class fun, interesting, and easy to pass. You do a lot of fun activities too, and he gives you creative freedom most of the time.
Great prof
Prof. Armstrong is a bit strange but overall he's a nice guy. He's a tough grader. His assignments are kind of vague but he gives you a chance to revise all of your papers. There is no such thing as too much detail in your essays, add as much as you can. He offered extra credit at the end of the semester.
Great guy and outlines paper guidelines well. Offers revisions on every paper.
Excellent professor with clear grading material. Classes are often boring, but you will learn a lot from the feedback on your papers.
This has got to be the worst professor ive yet to take. he grades very tough its a 1050 class it shouldent be graded this harsh at all i worked my ass off in this class and it was the hardest thing for me now keep in mind im an amazing writer. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOUR TRYING TO FAIL.
Good guy. He will help you and give you great feedback. Every paper you do, you have the option to do a revision (and he takes the better of the scores, no averaging). Overall, he's a great teacher. He can get off topic very easily. But if you listen to what he wants in your papers, you will do fine.
Grading system makes no sense whatsoever, rubrics are extremely vague, and has no organization. Just picks a grade out of the air and when you revise will add little to nothing to your score. Do not take this class
I went into this class scared to death. I had never taken a creative non-fiction class, but I found it was something that I liked doing, I even keep a journal now. He's approachable & willing to help. The class atmosphere is relaxed & not structured, which bothered me at 1ST but it turned out to be one of the best classes I've taken at OU. Take!
Class consists of 3 writing projects revised as a class. It's intimidating at first, but Professor Armstrong creates an atmosphere where you feel comfortable sharing and learning from others. He is willing to talk and help if you need it. This class is actually worth it. I felt excited to attend every day!
He wants to see his students succeed and I definitely recommend taking him. I thought he was hilarious in class and is just an overall great Prof. Friendly, approachable and willing to help when you ask.
Glen is a great person and a great professor. He grades fairly, gives great feedback, and gives revisions for full credit back. He is very laid back and understands that we have a lot of other things to do. Very fair and kind. Anyone who says otherwise is probably not considering his feedback.
Creative Non-fiction. Absolutely amazing professor. Three assignments: memoir, lyrical essay, multimodal. Attendance is linked to your grade, but the most of classes are workshopping peoples work. Vague rubrics, but that's because it's CREATIVE. Definitely take any class you can with professor Armstrong.
I always hated English class until I took his class
Great class, Glen makes it fun. I felt like a stronger writer coming out of it and really got into the assignments we had to do. Only 3 projects: a memoir, lyrical essay, and a multimodal piece; really easy and doable. Classes consisted of workshopping our projects for the entire period and critiquing them to turn in for the revision portfolio.
Glen made WRT 1060 easy for everyone. This was a summer session, so it was shorter than usual, but made sure that we were all on track. The essays were not hard if you followed the suggestions he gave in class and offered revisions on every essay. I would take again and would thank him for making writing enjoyable.
I hated English until I took Armstrongs class, he is really easy to talk to and even though his lectures can be boring he gives incredible feedback on all of the essays. He also gives many opportunities to bring grades up. I have already enrolled in his next class for WRT160! Would definitely take his class if you get the chance!
I highly recommend taking Professor Armstrong's writing courses because he really cares about his students and is helpful to answer any questions. His online class is very organized and the workload is reasonable. For the essays you turn in a peer draft, then a graded draft and you have the opportunity to revise your essay.
Definitely one of my favorite professor at OU! he's super sweet and nice. The work is not tough at all just make sure to complete on time! he's also very understandable and willing to extend due date! TAKE HIM!!!!!!
Although he is a nice teacher, his grading is tough. I took the hybrid course and the in-person parts felt really pointless/time wasting. He also did not accommodate so well for religious reasons. Some of his assignments are confusing, though they are creative. Overall, as long as you stay on top of everything you'll do well.
Professor Armstrong is very kind and is always open for helping students. He is not too rough of a grader and is very reasonable with his mark downs. Moodle assignments are short and simple and a lot of time is given for the essays. Amazing instructor, would love to have him as a professor again!
Professor Armstrong is overall pretty fair. As long as you do everything and participate in class you will get a good grade. He is kind of hard as a grader but overall you will do fine if you ask for help when you need it.
He's super sweet and will listen to your opinions. Not so many extra credit opportunities but as long as you do your work and follow his guidelines, you should be good.
