Simply THE best instrutor. Non biased point of view... Learned a great deal from him. One of the best teachers I ever had!
Um, hello?! He made class fun, and that's saying something! Aside from chicks that CANNOT STOP TALKING, I learned a lot.
he was cool... even though i didn't really understand half the**** >.< lolz
(eastern philosophy - spring 2005) good instructor. graded purely on 4 papers and weekly journal assignments.

Hard Teacher! Teaches alot of material!
Yeah I didn't get anything, take intro before you take this class... he kinda expected you to know things that I had no clue about. I also fell asleep everyday in class.
A very clear and articulate speaker. He expects a lot but also gives a lot. Anyone who didn't like him was probably just a lazy fart in the first place. :-)
I was a student of his 4 yrs ago, for my first qrt in college. He is great, really calm, lectures wonderfully and has a great wealth of knowledge.
I loved his class. Of course, I also think philosophy is t3h****. So perhaps I'm a slightly biased. If you have no interest whatsoever in philosophy, then you'll probably have a harder time grasping concepts and theories.

Nice class, I mean it was interesting. The essays got me ready for Writing.
great teacher and very interesting... extremely knowledgeable
Learned a lot ... good prof
4 papers, no exams, good story teller
Awsome teacher
Outstanding instructor. Fascinating material. Couldn't ask for more.
Good teacher, good lectures, and good assignments. Where we differ is that I have a philosophy that disagrees with either his or the material. Therefore, I got a not so good grade. If you just jump through hoops, you will do very well. If you put too much thought into this class, it could be your undoing.
Very enthusiastic, encourages discussion and debate. Sometimes disagrees with the text, which is actually good given the focus of the course. The class is relatively short on details like names and dates, but requires lots of critical thinking and applying concepts.
this teacher is legite. you write a double spaced paper once a week, and thats all the homework you get. EASY. His test are pretty good. even if you just study the day before the test, but u seriously study, you'll get an A. I straight up recommend this guy. HE'S WAY TOO FRESH
i would recommend this professor of philosophy. he knows his stuff.
Boring. He obviously knows his stuff, but if you don't know anything about philosophy, he doesn't do a very good job explaining it. He seriously spent minutes sitting and pondering. The class just sat in silence wondering if he'd ever say anything. I didn't get anything out of the class.
I've seen this man shrug off ridiculous comments from students and then sincerely laugh and tell them it was an interesting thought, in the modern age what makes a saint? A chill fellow, glad we covered so much in class.
Great teacher. Really nice guy. Too easy in my opinion. All the work I did was full credit except for the midterms, in which three of the four questions were graded full credit and one was docked a few points, it seems just in order to not give out full credit midterms so easily. Seemed helpful, even though I never needed his help. Take this guy!
Awesome teacher! I had a lot on my plate and he accommodated me by letting me take the test the quarter after I had taken his class. He is really funny! It makes class go by faster and understand the lessons more.
funny as hell, relaxed. he is perfect for teaching the philosophy course and does a good job of making you fully understand the concepts.
I absolutely loved his class. You have to write a few papers and read the books, but otherwise there was no homework. He created a comfortable atmosphere where there were no stupid questions. Extremely willing to clarify anything he'd covered and plenty he hadn't.
The kindest and most brilliant teacher I've ever met. Integrates the most ridiculous comments and questions from students into his lecture and teaching. Extremely helpful with assignments. Knows his philosophy, science, and history. Teaches philosophy from a historical perspective, as it should be taught.
This teacher is chill and easygoing, but certainly knows his stuff, the class (World Religion) is easy to understand, and at the same time, it definitely gets you thinking.
The class is called history of Ideas. He is a very calm teacher, and is very enjoyable in other classes. But this class in particular felt more like a systematic attack of all forms of legitimate faith (Which makes sense coming from a Buddhist, since they believe all is illusion). This is the one class of Glen's that feels overly biased.
I took World Religions with him and he is honestly one of my favorite teachers I've ever had! He really knows his stuff & you could tell it was his passion. Very unbiased and relaxed. Made a comfortable class atmosphere. I learned a lot. Really enjoyed it :)
World Religion class. 3 tests, make up majority of your grade so study hard, they aren't TOO difficult. 4 short answers and multiple choice. show up and you'll know most of it, otherwise you'll die. the book is hard to understand and doesnt cover whats on the test. his ppt's are excellent and tell you everything besides the "in class" material.
I took the History of Ideas class and it was focused on evolution. It was an interesting class overall. Glen is the kind of teacher that wants his students to succeed, so his enthusiasm is great. You'll do well if you do the work and take notes. Also read the material ahead of time, he likes to call on people.
Do the work kiddies, study the study guides well in advance of the tests, and you'll do fine. His class is somewhat a lump in the road but its easy so long as you study and do the critical notes.
He is an amazing teacher. He brings an energy to the class and i love how passionate he is. He makes everything relative. DO the critical notes, and pay attention to the slideshows. I read very little, just things i didn't understand from class. Be his friend, and don't e disruptive -4.0 easy.
THIS GUY IS AN EPIC TEACHER, HE MAKES THE DAY INTERESTING. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE LOOKING TO TAKE A PHILOSOPHY 101 CLASS.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!!!! I'm sure the professor is fine in person, but the online workload is boring and never ending! It is difficult to follow and I would rather pull my teeth out then do somewhere in the ball park of 500-1000 problem questions per week, plus exam. This is not an over exaggeration. Zzzzz And its pointless work.
Avantaggio is awesome and quite hilarious. He really gets you thinking. Easy tests every 3-4 weeks, with a page of notes allowed and only one 500 word post due each week! Easy 4.0!
Talks off the dome, he knows his stuff. Won't let you off the hook easily in class discussions & strives to have everyone participate. Jumps from one thing to another & talks fast so you have to pay attention. Sometimes he's not exactly clear, gets pissed if you're confused/don't know what he's talking about. Take notes & do the critical thinking!
This is the third time I've taken this teacher and I cannot put into words how good of a teacher he his. He his a truly skilled instructor who made a class as difficult as Symbolic Logic understandable. Take the hybrid course if available, you will need the lecture. Always responds to emails promptly and he knows his stuff. Best teacher ever.
Instructor makes philosophy sound so interesting that you cant stop to like this subject. He clearly explains the subject and has good sense of humor. Writing sometimes can be challenging but his grading is easy. Highly recommended for anyone interested in philosophy.
No textbook for this class, just DO the critical notes assignments, and look over the readings when online exams are assigned so you can post some ideas for them and get good grades on them, I got a 4.0 with two 85 percents and one 100% on my 3 exams.
After doing 20+ hours a week of Online class homework, Mr.Glen invited me to class. Symbolic Logic alone is ambiguous and best learned in person. Mr.Glen is a very interesting philosopher and person. I recommend campus classes only. Average homework is 15-20 hours. Stay focused and push forward.
Glenn made philosophy easy and fun to understand and promoted group discussion. I would definitely recommend him to anybody interested in learning about eastern philosophy. You will get a 4.0 as long as you do every weekly writing assignment and reference the text in your exams.
Excellent class and Excellent instructor.
Glen is the best professor I've ever had. He brings so much positivity and enthusiasm to the classroom. He is passionate about philosophy and his passion seems to infect his students! I took his Evolution and Philosophy class, offered only during spring and it was the best class I've ever taken, 10/10, would recommend to anyone looking to learn
Glen is always willing to clarify on homework, tests, and essays. He doesn't overload the students with homework and he is a fair grader. As long as you follow the rubric for his assignments, you are sure to get an high score. He allows for class discussions which really helped me out when I wouldn't understand. Highly recommended!
Glen is quite probably one of Highline's best professors. He knows his stuff, he's an upbeat guy, and he'll do what he needs to do to help you through the material. Now, I'm probably a little biased since I've taken... a bunch of classes with Glen, including 101 and Symbolic Logic. But, I wouldn't have done so if he wasn't an awesome professor.
Great teacher tbh
I took 2 classes with him and he's pretty easy with grading. There's 3 tests and they consist of 4 essay questions. If you go to his lectures, it's guaranteed that you will pass those tests. He also has 500 word discussions every week.
Glen was really nice teacher i loved him. his assignment was very clear . my husband and i both took his class we loved it i have never had better teacher . you will get a fair grade we both got an a from his class . we enjoyed his class we thought philosophy was a hard course but he made it fun and learned a lot. i would retake his class.
A very difficult class that is hard to wrap your head around but Glen tries his best to help you understand. Very nice guy, always willing to help, will try his best to help you understand logic. Great class, would take it with Glen again if I had to.
Made sure that I didn't fail and gave me work to do to make sure I didnt
Glen is probably one of the most interactive teachers I've taken. He responds to every assignment turn-in, and not just with little comments like "Good job". He is thoughtful, and actually provides more learning in his responses that make you think a bit more about what you submitted. He makes you want to learn more. This online class was great.
Prof Glen is one of the best professors at Highline. This class and the material we learn are very hard and it can get very confusing. However, If you do your homework's and go to class everyday, then it shouldn't be that hard. This class basically teaches you to think outside of the box. Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
Great class, Glen will explain every concept to you WHEN it is necessary, other times you have to come up with an understanding yourself. Make sure to come to class the days before the exams to get a head start on understanding the questions & have an idea of what you're asking. Make sure to read and come up with a good understanding of the reading
There will be no extra credit offered because he believes that the grade you get should be the grade you get. There are only two tests and weekly homework that determine your grade, so be careful not to bomb one of the tests or else you're gone. No finals. He gives good lectures, just need to pay attention and not let your mind wander around.
Glen's the best, shows up every day to class with a huge smile. The guy talks about philosophy like he's showing how proud he is of his own kid. He brings this joy and enthusiasm to learning about philosophy and questions everything. One of my favorite classes, I would take him again. Assignments and exams are easy if you pay attention to the ideas
If you don't enjoy writing, stay out of this class.
lots of writing
I really loved his Eastern Philosophy class. He helped me understand the major religions and ideas that were and are present in the eastern hemisphere. I'm taking a Chinese history class now at another school, and the things I learned in Glen's class are really helping me understand what's happening in my current class.
He's awesome! Never thought I would appreciate taking such a class. He gives great feedback on EVERY assignment. No textbook; he provides the readings and videos for lectures. There are weekly discussions, reading responses, and about two essays (third is optional). He communicates very well. Don't debate on this class-- take it!
This professor solely relies on participation for a solid grade. Basically, do all of the assignments, get a 4.0 (as long as you meet the criteria). Although this is a philosophy class, he does not grade on accuracy of use of theories, terns, etc. but more so- effort. Strongly Recommend!
class taken fall quarter 2017. Phil 131 is hard, no matter the teacher. Glen is very good at his job. He really appreciates when the students get involved in his lectures. Its a lot of fun to discuss life as we know it. Prepare to read some difficult material, especially at first. Would take a class from him again.
There was two big assignments due every week and they were alright. He also has 2 big essays for the entire quarter and the third essay is optional. He grades really easy; just do the assignment and fulfill his criteria/rubric, & you'll get a 4.0 on every assignment. Discussion posts (original post needs 500 words plus 2 replies w/ 100 words each.)
I took this class online. Its very easy if you follow the directions. Every week there is discussion post and there were 2 essays throughout the quarter. Professor Avantaggio is extremely helpful. Don't hesitate to go to his office hours and ask for any questions or help you need.
Took it in person. It's a fair amount of writing, but that's the only way he assesses you. He is very enthusiastic about the class and he always answers your questions, no matter how ridiculous it is. It is a super enjoyable class even if the class gets sidetracked at times. You never feel like you're wasting your time in this class.
Great teacher. He wants you to be successful. A lot of course work though. The class work consists of problem sets and a discussion every week. If you are a procrastinator this class is not for you. Problem sets are due every Sunday and are done in aplia. Attendance isn't mandatory. I would suggest going to class to understand the material better.
I honestly loved this teacher. I took this class last quarter because I was late to register for classes and it seemed easy. Super easy class. He always gives you such good feedback that helps throughout the quarter. I think there was two essays, they were pretty easy. Don't need to buy a textbook.
Glen is passionate about what he teaches which makes his lectures intriguing. He genuinely listens to what you have to say and respects that you have a life outside the classroom. He is very understanding as a professor and is not hard on his students. No tests, or exam. Nor is heavy on homework. However, being involved in discussions is important.
Took this class as an elective. Awesome materials to go over. Utilize his office hours to go over the material! You're graded by discussion posts and 2 essays. Overall an easy class to get through with pretty interesting stuff!
super kind, understanding and gives you new ideas on all your assignments. take him! a real gem
Helpful, respectful, and gives great feedback. The material is very easy to understand and the assignments are easy as well. He gives examples for every assignment which helps a lot and this class was overall a great experience.
Super nice guy, gives TONS of useful feedback. There's 2 essays and one optional one. We start the week with a short summary (150 words) of what reading strategies we are using to read the material which is all provided by him, there's no textbook. Then, we write a 550 word discussion of the topics we have learned that week. I highly recommend!
Professor Glen is a great teacher. The class is generally easy. We have 2 writing assignments each week. We read about something then write a 150 word and 500-word passage throughout the week. There are 2 essays you need to do and 1 you don't need to. Very easy grader. Great prof and I actually enjoyed his class
He had 2 assignments per week. They were fair work. He responds to email really well. Is very understanding and helpful.
He was an awesome professor and gave wonderful feedback on every assignment.
Great teacher. Would highly suggest taking him if you like philosophy. You get to learn about interesting topics like as Buddhism and Hinduism.
Super knowledgeable and always gives interesting and helpful feedback that expands on what you just learned. Recommend!
Awesome teacher. Understanding and *VERY* knowledgable about philosophy.
Class is easy if you keep up doing all the work, there are 2 discussions a week and replies. 2 essays in the quarter and 3rd is optional for extra credit. Clear grading rubric, a lot of reading and writing. If there is an emergency, he is caring and will give you an extension to turn in your assignment and essays. Definitely take his class.
This professor is my #1 hater and is the biggest op ever. Assigned 10 homework assignments every week and looked at me funny during in-person office hours. Get ready to read and do homework assignments for several hours a day for the entire class.
I took his online class and it was easy. Every Tuesday we had to write a 150 reflection usually about how we feel and our reading strategies. Then every Thursday we had to write a 500 word reply on our topic which usually consists of a lot of reading or a couple of videos. Then by Saturday we have to reply to 2 of our class mates in a 100 words.
I had no idea that logic would be so interesting. The other review said it would be hard, but I didn't find it hard. The profs explanations are excellent.
I took two of Glen's classes. He has a very structured class with predictable due dates and reasonable expectations. The homework is easy as long as you read what is expected for the week. He is very willing to help and encourages you to reach out if things aren't making sense, his response time is quick and he has zoom office hours if you prefer.
By far the best professor I have taken so far. There is a lot of reading which I didn't enjoy too much, but that's only really because I've never liked reading as a whole. We only had 2 assignments weekly (+1 if essay). He gives amazing feedback and cares very much about his students. 10/10!
He is okay but I wouldn't say he's easy going. He kicked me out of the canvas class just because I didn't turn it a day before the due date. He grades very tough. He will have you redo the assignments because of tiny unnecessary things.
This professor is great. He is very accessible when you reach out to him at any time and is very helpful. His feedback is very engaged and he does very well with his feedback. This professor went out of his way to make sure I was following and understanding material. He is a bit of a tough grader, but he is an amazing professor!
I never thought I'd enjoy philosophy but this class was great! The professor presented the information in a digestible way that made the content easy to comprehend. 100% recommend this class if you have even a remote interest in philosophy.
He is great with communication, but definitely refrain from taking this class if you're working with 20+ credits. The last modules require you to get everything right to get homework points, and that really sucks, but he will help you. Just super time consuming and if you don't have time to really understand the material you wont be that successful
Very approachable, flexible, and understanding. The course was easy but still educational. I loved this class.
Great professor, easy class if you keep up with the work. Lots of reading and writing, but clear grading rubric. Unstuckstudy helped me ace the essays. Would take again!
He likes to assume everyone is cheating. Tried to report me for having the same WORD VAULT as another student. Aka same words and definitions from the same 1 paged text we read. Ridiculous excuse for a sane professor. It's an ok class but he would just zero out grades(2weeks after first grading) &mark them as “plagiarism” until you defend yourself.
Teacher is great!! he responds to me within minuets. I can tell he is genuinely passionate about his job he gives very detailed feedback. Work is a good amount of writing but it will get easier ..definitely suggest!
He was a very nice teacher, gave good feedback. Theres 2 assignments per week.
