jumpin glenn Gass is a gas, gas, gas!
I can still remember his twelve bar blues medley on acoustic guitar
Best class i had at IU
GREAT PROFF
If you don't take a class by Gass, your whole college experience has gone to waste. He is and will always be the most memorable and by far the best prof I will ever have!
Unbelievable teacher! Dr Rock rules.
Best Teacher ever...changed my outlook on music and made me fall in love with the Beatles! glen gass rules!!!!!
Greatest class ever. Greatest professor ever. As in 16 years of school, makes all other teachers look dull, greatest ever. I wish 1% of teachers cared this much about making education fun.....
Most amazing professor/teacher I've ever had. No one cares more about making the student *really* get it. If you go to IU and you don't take a course(s) from Glenn, you are missing out.
He's the best! I learned more in his classes and apply it to life out of college more often then classes I took for my major! Take his classes!!!
He is the best. If you come to IU, you MUST take a class with him. I loved the Beatles going into his class, but I'm going out of it with a far greater appreciation for them. He goes above and beyond any expectations you could have!
Any instructor who jumps up ON TOP OF the table as he's getting really into something gets my vote. Very passionate and wants to share it with you, and always available to help you get it.
Despite my pleas with my high school and the powers-that-be in the Gwinnett County School System, i cannot convince them to make the History of Rock and Roll a required Social Studies course. I'm envious of anyone who gets to teach such a class. Very pa
Absolutely, hands down, the best teacher I ever had. So much passion and care for his students. Anyone who has the opportunity to take one of his classes should.
awesome guy, very enthusiastic
Best class ever, best professor ever. My Beatles class is my stress relief- I absolutely love the class
excellent
Very awesome and easy. Very fun to go to class.
Glenn rocks!

Glenn kicks mad ass... I'm not one for class attendance, but I made sure to make it to all of his classes! His classes are some that I can honestly say I got my money's worth out of - tons of great music that I still listen to!
Glenn is the man.
I still miss that guy... Do yourself a favor and take his class!!! You'll never forget it.

Best professor of my college career. Looking at history through the lens of music was enlightening and having an intelligent, enthusiastic professor to lead the way was invaluable. Thank you Glen!
Amazing professor.

This class was the best class of my college career! Glenn is a kick-ass professor and knows so much about music! I absolutly loved coming to this class. Our class was on Tuesdays and Thursdays and lasted until almost 9pm. Even on Thursdays that auditorium was full!!! Take his class!!!
Not a complete blow off class, but if you have any intrest at all, probably one of the best classes you'll ever take!
Great teacher
Best professor I had in college. I can't say enough good about him or his classes. If you leave IU without having him as a teacher, you're absolutely missing out.
Glen is the coolest professor you will ever have. Period. His knowledge and passion of the subject being taught is unreal. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Lectures are really, really long and somewhat boring. 90 minutes is too long. Otherwise, great class.
the most awesome, funny, passionate, and enthusiastic professor i've ever had. he made a job of his passion, and performs it exceptionally well. class was fun; i WANTED to attend. to pass beatles tests, you MUST attend class; this may seem like a blowoff, but if you don't attend class, you won't pass the tests.
Great guy, great guy.
AMAZING class! He's very enthusiastic and passionate about what he teaches. Knows his stuff and has lots of stories. Even got Mellencamp to come. He didn't cancel class during a tornado warning because he had to teach the evils of Yoko Ono :-)
Hands down best professor at IU. Take Beatles. Remember to go to class, take notes and listen to all the music.
Awesome Class. Lots of fun and professor loves the music and makes the students love it too.
Hands down the most passionate professor at IU. I'd attend his classes even if I wasn't getting credit for them!
amazing teacher, amazing class. gass is so passionate not to mention his adorable sons are showcased in slideshows. seriously, BEATLES is amazing. come to class, take notes and listen to the albums. amazing stress relief
He is probably the best teacher at Indiana University. Take his classes!
there are places we remember all of our lives...balantine hall is one of them! awesome beatles class, loud music, passionate Glen!!The girls love a big teddy bear...I know what the Lennon legend is...I always knew...all you need is love, that's right Glen!!! Rock on...
By the far THE best teacher at Indiana University. His knowledge, passion and enthusiasm is unparalleled. He routinely gets standing ovations in class. I couldn't imagine another professor teaching the courses he does. His Beatles class will be the MOST interesting and engaging course you will ever take in your life.
Absolutely amazing! I would take this class again in a heartbeat! I've been in college for 5 years and he's the best I've ever had!
Wonderful teacher. Obviously loves the class and teaching. Wish I could take this class again!
Coolest Class Ever. Best professor ever. When I don't have stuff to do, I am going to sit in on it for the next two years. Not hard if you don't go to class, very easy and fun if you do.
By far the greatest professor at IU. Take every class he offers. I've never met another professor who has so much enthusiasm and passion for teaching. Glen Gass is truly a wonderful man who cares so much about his students. I've never had more respect for a professor.
Best class I had in the 8 yrs it took me to get my undergrad.
The Beatles class was the best class of my college career! By far the most interesting and entertaining class there is! TAKE IT! Changed my outlook on many things!
With the title THE HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL, you'd think you could skate through this class. NOT! Glenn Gass is a HISTORY teacher who specializes in music. Highly rate him -- he keeps students involved, intriqued and informed. (Tests were decently hard and easy.) LOVED the guest lecturers, too: Lou Reed and Kenny Aronoff.
History of Rock & Roll. It is 15 years after graduation, and I still think about this class more than any other I had at IU. Outstanding professor, who will teach you how music has shaped our country, culture, and lives. If you read this Glen: Thank you. You are what made college a great experience for so many of us.
The Beatles class was AMAZING. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, that it makes you interested. He is one of the best professors at IU, hands down. If you can get into the Beatles class, then take advantage of it! I didn't want to skip class EVER.
Best professor! Classes are always enjoyable, even if the music being studied isn't your favorite. Never wanted to skip class, always guaranteed a laugh. Just listen to the music and the class is amazing.
Glenn Gass is the coolest man on the planet. Hands down.
solid holid enjoy life and learn about music and love him for what he preaches
Gass is awesome. Turns learning music into loving music. If you leave IU without taking one of his classes, you've missed out on an incredible experience!
Professor Gass is the best I have ever had and I never want to miss class. He's always funny and sometimes scandalous and has a fantastic collection of video clips to express his points. Best class ever.
Best and easiest class ever
AMAZING PROFESSOR. I've never seen someone so passionate about their topic. He made every class interesting and exciting. He taught the material as if it was his first time learning it. TAKE THIS CLASS!
The Beatles class is the best!! Glenn rocks, one of the most knowledgeable, passionate and genuinely NICE professors ever. Nothing bad to say about him.
Glenn Gass is the coolest teacher EVER. Never even thought about missing one of his classes. He always found a way to make class fun. TAKE HIS CLASS
Most passionate, inspirational professor ever. Joy to attend class.
Awesome teacher. Probably the most interesting class I've taken. Easy class just take good notes and listen to the Beatles a lot.
GLENN GASS IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! He is so passionate about rock history, especially The Beatles, and it's clearly obvious he loves teaching, music, and history in general. He also has some of the best quotes out there! To leave IU without taking a music history class from him would be an absolute shame.
Gass is amazing
Glenn Gass is by far the most amazing man to ever grace the room of Ballentine 013.
Glen Gass has been my favorite teacher at IU since I took my first rock history class 2 years ago. I'm now in my fourth rock history class, and he is AMAZING! loooove glen gass!!!! take his classes you won't regret it!
A tad bit overrated but still a great teacher and one of the best at IU
AMAZING PROFESSOR. HE MADE ME WANT TO COME TO CLASS. IT'S ALWAYS ENJOYABLE TO LEARN FROM A TEACHER WHO IS PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT THEY TEACH AND GASS IS JUST THAT!
Great Professor. Most passionate professor I have every had. The guy loves his job and the subject. Every class is a new experience.
One of the most inspiring teachers I've ever had. Not many people can pour their souls out on a daily basis especially in front of a couple hundred people. Classes are always interesting and a welcome stress reliever compared to other classes
Took this class 1st semester freshman year, and going into senior year still my favorite class. Hilarious, passionate, and a joy to be around. I never wanted to miss a class. Definitely taking a class with him again before graduation. The material easy for me because I already love the music, but would be manageable no matter what!
I had Glen Gass my second semester freshman year for Z-201, History of Rock and Roll in the 60's. It was by far the most awesome learning experience of my life. That is no longer true since I have taken Music of the Beatles with him... take this man's classes. Dylan is up next for me.
He is fun to listen to. Lots of note taking. The book and the lectures are exactly the same. I took notes rather than reading. The tests are pretty hard but multiple choice. The listening part of the test takes time to prepare for. The facts part is pretty easy but you must know names.
If you love music, this class will easily be your favorite! The guy knows his stuff, and makes it fun to learn! If you think this is a blow off class, or don't have any real passion for music, don't take it,It requires a lot of listening outside of class and some struggle. Any music lover will LOVE Gass and you will never want to miss a day!
Awesome guy and awesome class. No need for text book
A cool guy and a cool class. Don't underestimate the exams - they can be tricky if you tend to skip lectures.
best teacher on campus
great teacher
After three years of college this is by far my favorite professor. Very interesting plus it's rock n roll music so what's not to love? Highly recommend this class. And also book is not necessary, you will probably never use it.
Every person needs to take a class from Glen Gass. I was in both the 60s class and the Bob Dylan class and it is amazing. Seriously this professor is one of the best at IU!
The best. Totally lives up to the hype. I just wish he would institute a good attendance system so he wouldn't worry so much about the people who skip class. Those of us who were there loved it!
I just graduated from IU, and Glen Gass was my absolute favorite professor. I would never skip class because he made the material so enjoyable. The home videos he shared were so fun to see (his family is ADORABLE) I didn't know a lot of the music, so the listening was challenging for me, but as long as I did a little studying every day it was fine.
I almost cry every night in his world-renowned Beatles class. He makes them so beautiful and human. I'll be honest, I have trouble separating my love for The Beatles with my appreciation for Dr. Gass. He teaches them with such humanity, though. It's amazing. If he teaches any other class with this passion, he is an excellent professor.
awesome professor, everyone who goes to indiana university should try to get into one of his classes
Best teacher I have ever had. Everyone should take one of his classes if you ever have the chance. He is one of the most personal and lovable guys out there. Also, he has a lot of awesome home movies.
awesome teacher if you can take one of his classes you wont regret it. loves what he does and he's very interesting and fun. keeps the class entertaining. probably my favorite professor yet
GREAT Professor! I would recommend anyone to take a class with him before they graduate! He genuinely loves what he is teaching about so it makes the class that much more interesting.
He is the best professor I've ever had. I had him for The Music of Bob Dylan and he knew EVERYTHING about Dylan. He always kept the class interested and seemed to truly love teaching the course. I would definitely recommend him for anything he is teaching. Also, if you can't handle too loud of music, don't sit up front.
Awesome teacher, if you have any interest in rock music history, take the class. If you are into classic rock, you will get an A without much effort. Good times, no reason to skip class because he always made it interesting. Book isn't necessary, but he wrote it so why not pick it up.
Graduating from IU without taking one of Gass's courses would be a shame. His lectures are hilarious and really informative. He knows EVERYTHING about the Beatles. If you can't enroll in one of his classes for whatever reason, at least attend a class to get the experience. If you're passionate about music, a class with Gass is a must.
Glen Gass is what a college professor should be. Passionate, opinionated, knowledgeable. Make sure you attend class - he is very big on class attendance. Not so much because it's part of the grade, but because he genuinely wants to teach us. Listening exams can tricky so make sure you're listening to the music from the start of the semester!
Professor Gass is quite a character. His lectures are filled with amazing (and loud) music and funny anecdotes from his life. Although he tends to stray away from the main topic sometimes, he can be very interesting. He doesn't do the best job at preparing the class for exams but he tries, failing sometimes. Overall, great professor and great class
Glenn Gass is a God. He knows more about The Beatles than anyone you know. He is hilarious. He has amazing stories. He plays music from time to time at The Bluebird. The Beatles course is a real multimedia tour de force. Everything a college course should be. Inspiring. Inherently interesting. Easy as hell. You will not regret signing up for it.
Pretty much spells out what's on the test. And a great class if you like the music. Supplement with readings to reinforce the lecture. Just don't be lazy and the A takes care of itself.
This man's life is pretty much the history of rock and roll. Take a class with Professor Gass is you get a chance. He loves what he teaches and it shows.
Glen Gass will run the same way of teaching each and every class. He will turn the lights out, everyone will take their laptops and phones out, and Professor Gass will play music very loudly and display a bunch of notes which you will need to pay close attention to and study as those will be on the 3-4 exams. 1.5 hour class lecture but funny guy.
I am not a music major, and yet Glen Gass is by far my favorite teacher I have ever had at IU. His class is so interesting and he is so passionate about the material. He makes jokes all of the time and the class just eats them up. Very interesting material, nothing required in the class other than listening to good music and taking 3 easy tests.
Glenn Gass is hands down the best professor on any campus, teaching any course. He is so passionate and interesting and hilarious. Students love him and I hated the "music type" people before taking his rock and roll classes, and now I'm pursuing a music minor as a Business Major. What will i do with that? who care his class is great!
Glenn Gass is incredible! He has singlehandedly ignited my renewed love of music, and he is without a doubt one of the greatest professors I've ever had the privilege of learning from. He's hilarious, passionate about teaching, and he's just all around awesome. TAKE HIS CLASSES. (Especially Z202. Just do the listening and you'll be fine.)
Glen is the best. If you show up to class and do the listening, you will pass. Glen is very passionate about what he is teaching and incorporates humor into his lessons making you want to go to class. He changed my taste in music for the better. He has some awesome stories that keep class interesting as well.
Glen is a great professor that knows everything about Rock n Roll history ( & Bob Dylan). Take his class now and learn bout great music
By far one of my favorite professors here at IU! Some of his home videos are absolutely adorable and take away the idea of being in class. Listen to the music and you will be just fine, as he will provide the trivia questions that will be on the exam. Also, go over your notes a few days in advance. I will definitely be taking another class of his!
I took his class on Bob Dylan, and now Dylan is one of my favorite artists. He chooses the right songs for you to listen to, and makes you interested in the content. He could get a little boring, but the class is pretty good overall, if you're interested in music.
Honestly confused as to why Glenn doesn't have a 5 star rating because he is THE BEST professor on any of IU's campuses. Probs would marry the dude. He's got a sick tye dye button up also. Passing up the opportunity to take a class taught by him will be the biggest mistake during your time at IUB. Glenn Gass for president 2016!!
Glen is a fantastic professor. He is the most enthusiastic professor I have ever had and truly loves what he does. I actually look forward to going to this class (The Beatles) because he makes it so interesting. I signed up for another one of his classes next semester I enjoyed it so much. Tests are not difficult if you listen to the songs.
He's a great professor, funny guy and makes the material fun, but the class is an hour and a half so it can get brutally boring at points due to a boring sort of section or if you aren't a fan of a certain artist
By far my favorite class ever taken at IUB! He did a phenomenal job teaching the Beatles and gave me an interest in their music. You learn just about everything of the Beatles and the classes are so much fun to attend. I highly recommend taking this course before you graduate, even if you're not a big beatles fan, you will be after taking this.
Glenn is the man. I don't know if a simple post of appreciation is enough to describe how much I loved his class. If you don't take one of his classes at IU you're missing out. Best professor I've ever had. Genuinely cares about the students. My only regret is that I have not grabbed a beer with the man. I would pay to hang out with him.
LOVE THIS CLASS MY ROOMMATE DOES TOO BIGGEST FANS LOVE U GLEN
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR. He's so passionate about what he does and makes the class so fun. The lectures are long but so entertaining. There's never a dull moment.
He's hilarious! He makes class super fun and he really knows what he's talking about. The information he has on this topic is never ending. He gets off on tangents a lot and can get a little boring but he always brings it back. If you can't appreciate music in any way you'll hate this class and waste your time. If you can then you'll love it!
Could be the best professor I've ever had.
You won't find a professor more passionate about the material they teach.
HIGHLY recommend taking one of Glenn's classes if you know/care about music even in the slightest bit. I took two of his classes and learned an immense amount! He's incredibly passionate and full of knowledge about almost any musician who has ever walked this earth. If you listen to the songs and take notes in class, the tests aren't very hard.
A legend. The greatest educator the world will ever see. He is the most passionate human I have met in my life.
Glen Gass is without a doubt my favorite professor I have had at IU. He is so passionate about the material his class covers, and conveys the importance effectively to the class. If you have any interest in rock music, take this class. You will not regret it.
Best professor I have ever had
I love rock n roll and Prof Gass made me love it even more. He is hilarious, super passionate about what he does, and truly wants everybody in this class to succeed. Hands down one of my favorite professors at IU. If you pay attention in lecture and listen to the songs he provides, it's an easy A.
I took this class for fun and was not disappointed. Glenn is the best. He love the subject matter and it shows. His enthusiasm is infectious! I learned so much about early rock & roll and yet never felt like I was in a lecture. I loved the class so much I'm taking Z202 next semester just because.
Fun class, just a terrible grade system where the only grades are 3 exams.
loved history of rock n roll. glen is an absolute G. going to class and paying attention means that you can skip reading the text book. listen to the assigned music as he goes over it so you won't have to cram. really, this isn't that hard of a class, as long as you do what he says to study.
Glen is a pretty cool dude and his classes are hilariously easy. Folks will probably drum up google doc pages for test studying, so you don't even have to attend class. Only problem is he's an opinionated codger and presents his thoughts as fact, which is pretty elitist and obnoxious if you happen to be on the wrong end of his hot opinions. So yeah
Absolutely the worst professor I have had thus far throughout my college career. He is very disorganized and his lectures barely cover what is on the exam. He does not hold any office hours and is very condescending when students asked questions. Left me and others unready for his exams.
Professor Glass is the best professor I've ever had! Class was taken for a GedEd Credit & VERY glad I took it. Only three exams (well four). There is a fourth exam on the day of the final. It is taken after the final and it is optional. It is cumulative & can be taken to make up an exam or to replace an exam if you did bad. Exam's are easy!!!
Fascinating lectures, but did not enjoy the class at all. Do not take this class unless you genuinely like rock and roll. You are given an insane amount of songs to listen to and memorize for the test. Don't think you can skip class. Whoever told you that was lying!!! Not a blow off class!!!!
Glen is one of those professors you always hope you'll have. You'll never meet anyone with more passion for what they teach than him. He has so much knowledge to share and so many stories to tell. He's taught me more about all of my favorite bands than I could ever hope to know and has significantly broadened my horizons, musically. 10/10 recommend
The best professor I've ever had no question. Teaches many life lessons and is incredibly passionate about what he teaches. Gotta love Glen. Also a very easy class he tells you exactly what you have to know. He's not here to trick you. If you do bad on a test he allows you to take a cumulative final after the regular final to get a better grade.
He's someone I'll never forget. Almost 20 years out of IU & I still speak of the vibrant way that he spoke about music. The world needs more professors like him.
I took all of Gass' courses and can honestly say they changed my life (and my taste in music). He is easily the most engaging and passionate teacher I've had, teaching with a gripping, transformative emotion and impossibly deep knowledge of his subject matter. His classes are pure music appreciation and the most important education I'll ever have.
I took every one of his classes, and even though my major was outside his field I can honestly say there was nothing else in my college experience that was as inspiring for me, and nothing else that will stick with me as long.
