AWESOME TEACHER! MUST TAKE! REASON I AM AN ACCOUNTANT!
AWESOME INSTRUCTOR!!!
Dont take his class
If you plan on taking this class, make sure you keep up with the exercises from the book. And know the concepts! If you don't, you'll end up falling behind.
dont take this proff all he does is go over the power point and his test have absoultely nothing to do with what he went over he does not give a study guide
Terrible!! Class average halfway into the semester is a 50% - yes, a 50%! No study guides, tests are out of left field, boring....just skip him all together!!
This guy is terrible reads off the powerpoint from another teacher all day long. The tests have nothing to do with the powerpoint either and he doesn't even know whats on the tests whoever said he was a good teacher is obviously taking a different teacher.
RUN AWAY!!! he does power point all day long. class average is an F. if we kind of understand something well ask him to explain it more and when he does well end up not understanding anything. hes so confusing. you have no clue what the test is going to be on.
Best to study on your own with the suggested problem sets he assigns in the syllabus. He teaches with a real world emphasis, rather than teaching towards the exams, so it's harder to grasp the concepts since he uses questions from the department. I remember him saying he uses a bell curve.
Professor Hatton was very laid-back. He's a firm believer in doing well in class by acing the tests. That means no homework. On the other hand, that means you really have to study on your own time to fully understand the concepts. I highly recommend going to class AFTER you read the chapters! This is an easy class as long as you put in the effort!
i usually do really well in all of my classes, except for this one. he's not helpful AT ALL. he expects you to know things that he hasn't taught you. his tests are totally unlike anything you've gone over in class. he thinks he's funny but he's just plain rude sometimes. CLASS AVERAGE WAS A 51%. see for yourself if your'e thinking of taking him.
Don't take him unless you feel like your GPA is too high and need to take a class to knock it down by a few points. The class average was a 51.5%. That's just TERRIBLE. I feel as if he wrote those positive comments himself so balance out his horrible ratings derived from real students. If it's his first year teaching, he needs MAJOR IMPROVEMENT.
I don't know what everyone is talking about, class was fine. It's better to read the chapter before you go to class. Tests are a little tricky but if you do the practice problems things will make more sense. Class average was low but its on a bell curve so it all works out. My grade w/out curve was a 79% but my final grade with the curve was an A
I normally do really well inschool with little effort but this one took me on a loop! he seems like a great guy and all but that doesnt make him a teacher! it was his first year and i honestly taught myself more than he taught. all he did in class was read off the powerpoints that he didnt even make! he was confused half the time and very useless.
DROP HIM NOW IF YOU ARE REGISTERED!! YOU'LL BE SAVING YOUR GPA IF YOU DROP HIM NOW!!! OUR CLASS AVERAGE WAS BELOW A 50% HE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!
Hatton is probably the worst accounting teacher at CSUF! Just read from the PP and never explained anything. Class average was about a 53%. If value GPA dont take!!! I usually get amazing grades and I barely got a C.
Usually for people this is their first accounting class as was mine. He was an OK teacher in class, if you go to his office hours he perfectly explains whatever you have trouble with. For those who gave a bad rating, God forbid you have to put effort into a college class its college for a reason. Read the book and do the problems and youll do fine
There is no point to going to his class. Read the book or get an F.
He reads right off the powerpoint which is posted on blackboard. He gets confusing when he explains something then realizes its wrong. I am not very intereste in the subject which might be why I am having a hard time understanding him. His class average on the exams are very low..about 60%..Overall, i wouldnt take him again.
wow this guy is horrible if you want to learn accounting do not take this guy he doesn't teach you anything
Nice guy. HORRIBLE INSTRUCTOR! He reads right off powerpoint, I learned more from the book than from him. Don't take him! If you ask a question he doesn't explain it understandably and switches subjects. If you have him, SWITCH.
TOOK ACCT 201A. funny guy. but does just read off power points. But is always there for questions. The text book is so good though that you dont really need a teacher. got nearly a perfect in the class. just make sure you do some hw in each chp and test should be easy.
Accounting is hard period. But I'm glad I took Hatton rather than Lee, heard too many bad stories about him. He does read off the powerpoints and you do have to kind of teach yourself but he does add points to one of the tests and he curved the final.
Taught the class purely by powerpoints which didnt help much, so I advise people to study from the textbook. Went to office hours with him for the group project and ended up getting an unfair grade on it when he said that the project was 100% correct. Pretty lame.
The class is not difficult. If you show up, and read the chapter, Prof. hatton actually does a good job of explaining it. The tests aren't hard if you have done the practice problems.
This class is the BOMB. HIGHLY Recommended. I started out the class doing bad, I got a B- on the first exam, and then a D- on the second one. I did okay on the group project and the writing assignment. Then on the Final I got 28 out 50. I thought I was going to fail the class, but I ENDED up Getting an A! This Professor Curves like crazy TAKE HIM!!
Two Midterms. There is HW for each chapter that are hard. I got a C and a B for the midterms and C on the final and got an A. I had to occasionally go to Acct tutoring center to get help. He teaches from powerpoints. He's helpful when he u ask for help. Read the book, it helps a lot. Do the practice problems Im taking him again for ACCT 201B
For someone who had no interest in accounting, dull and boring. Prof is a very a nice/educated guy who is willing to help (if you ask).Lectures are dull because it is powerpoint lecturing. There is a gap between what is taught and what is on dept. tests. Low class averages. He does seem to curve significantly even tho Ive never heard him say so.
I wasnt as lucky as some of the previous class takers. Got a B on both midterms and a 34 out of 50 on final and an A on the group project and still got a B in the class. Curve isnt always going to be alot. As far as teaching goes, he reads of PPT and its useless going to class. Hes a nice guy though and funny but emailing him is also a long shot.
He is ok, 2 midterms, one cumulative final and an easy group project. He teaches out of powerpoint slides, I never stopped going to class, but this is the only class where I never bothered to listen to the lecture at all. Read and teach yourself, do the online TESTS from the companion book site and you?ll pass. Beware, HW is insane! Nice curve!
Great professor! Explains the subject very clearly. If you have questions ask them, he will make sure that you understand it. Those who gave him negative reviews mustve really not tried. 2 tests, final, group project, hw, & writing assignment. Do not buy the book, his powerpoints cover it. Do the hw it will help a lot!
Prof Hatton is a good guy and knows accounting very well. Always willing to help. Tests are Department written and are HARD! Attendance not mandatory HW is done online and is annoying but effective. Hard class regardless of teacher. He doesn't say it but he curves. 3 hard Exams, HW weekly, 1 easy paper, 1 group project. Take him!
This semester I took him for 201B and I thought he taught very well. His teaching skills improved dramatically compared to last semester when I took him for 201A. Online HW, 3 exams, final, & group project. I know he curves alot even though he doesn't say it.
he's no easy prof. he definitely teaches well, but a lot of my understanding came from my own homework and reading. he does give homework (which is nothing like the exams).. homework is a big portion of the grade and so is the group project, which is super easy. i think i'm going to pass with an A, but we'll see.
good teacher, bad accounting department. Tests are made by the department not the teacher, so its hard to know what to study for the most. Class averages are terrible. He is probably better than most teachers, but don't think it matters
was a good professor, actually gave real life examples and encouraged the students to participate, but you really need to read the book otherwise your just going to get lost.
Professor Hatton did a great job giving examples and responding to questions. Material is not interesting, however if you study you will pass. I got A's on both midterms, bombed the project, and did the online homework. Pulled of an A so i would take him again.
Glen is the man. If your a good student 201A should be a peice of cake anyways, but Professor Hatton really makes it easy. Real life examples, interesting discussions, and hilarious jokes - You can't beat that if you ask me.
Solid teacher. Makes the topic as interesting as possible and all test questions, especially midterms, come directly from the textbook. There is no reason to not get a good grade in this class. Hatton is always available to talk to about the material and I can't count how many times he asked the class if we had any questions during lecture. A+
DEcent lecturer, and does examples in class. What really pissed me off is that everytime I went to office hrs he would be on his laptop, and texting while helping me. I gave him my full attention in class, and expected the same respect during office hrs.Spends class time taking phone calls and texts from his personal tutoring business
Gives a lot of examples. If you read the book and listen in class, you will get an A for sure. Great teacher! Would recommend!!!
Nice teacher, but you will need to study on your own to fully grasp accounting. He can communicate examples, but has trouble really explaining the process and concepts of accounting. That being said, he is by far the best lower division accounting teacher offered a CSUF. Highly recommend, even if you have to get up at 7am for his class.
2 midterms, final, online hw,and kinda easy group project. Mr. Hatton tries to teach but is not successful just reads of the powerpoint and sometimes examples. Basically you teach yourself n he never mentions or brings up the book. Hard class on its own but he doesn't help n no studyguide. CSUF needs a better acct staff n method of teaching subject.
passed with an A with flying colors. its not that his exams are hard at all. its that he grades to where there's extra credit on every single exam or quiz. no homework is ever due, but he does assign some for our benefit. he's very clear. and don't be discouraged, his first quiz is the hardest out of everything. TAKE HIM!
I loved this guy! He's not the best teacher, but if you go to his office hours he's super helpful. I got 1C and 3D's and ended up with a B in the class. YOU WILL NEED WILEYPLUIS! If you are planning on becoming an Accounting major or just running your own busines, he's the guy to talk to. He's super nice and super helpful.
This guy is a joke. Accounting is an extremely difficult subject and he will literally stand there and read exactly off of the power point for the entire class time. Exams cover nothing he goes over. Save your gpa and do not take accounting with him!
if you are not a person that likes group projects, DON'T TAKE HIM! its like 1/2 of your grade. Homework 2x a week and midterms and quizzes don't cover anything from class. You have to do a lot of reading on your own in order to pass the class.
Yes, his lectures are straight from the powerpoint and are very boring. There's a group assignment that's kind of a pain. Exams are very difficult, but he curves A LOT. I stopped attending class towards the end because I could just read the powerpoints at home.
His class is tough. Y=Its pretty much a self taught class with him going over the homework in class after its due. one day your in a lecture hall the other day your in a lab working on a group project which doesnt really help you at learning th material. if another profesor is available, take them. Hatton is a good guy, just not a good teacher
I decided to take him because he was the only professor left and it looks like I made a mistake. This class is the first class in college that I will not get an A or a B in. He does teach and gives examples, but it just doesn't click. His methods are not very, well, educational. I haven't learned much by attending every class. Need to self-teach.
Avoid him if you can. Hatton does a great job of reading from the powerpoint. He occasionally uses real life examples but his method of "teaching" is not the best. He makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. Accounting is difficult, save yourself and find a different professor
DO NOT TAKE!! actually dont even take accounting classes at CSUF because you will NOT get a good grade. recommend going to FJC instead. lab time is completely useless unless you want to be an entrepreneur. average test score was like 60% and there is no curve. homework is wileyplus and is very time consuming
Avoid him. I failed two out of three tests but managed to pass miraculously. On Tuesday theres a boring lecture that you don't learn anything, and Thursday theres a "lab" class in another room where you have to work on a group project that doesn't help you learn anything. And The homework is on WileyPlus which is horrible!
He is a funny guy but doesnt teach the class at all. The lectures are pointless and he never taught us anything new other than reviewing ONE hw problem. This class is extremely hard if you dont study or go home and read the book. Good luck teaching yourself.
i received an A in the class but i'm better at teaching myself course material, which is exactly what this class is. In the beginning he has helpful tools/reminders but then he just starts reading from powerpoint which is what anyone can do. i'd say the only thing that's really convenient is that he stops taking attendance after the first few weeks
He's not a bad guy, and he will give you a better understanding of the course material if you take the time to read the book or learn the things yourself, but you cannot learn strictly off of him. I passed with a C, but I think I could've done better if I didn't fool around.
This guy is not a teacher at all, Wileyplus.com ends up being your teacher. Everyone says he curves the grade by a lot but he seems to have changed his grading scale. In my group project NO ONE passed the class even tho we all got B's in the projects. When I went to talk to him he completely brushed me off. Take this class in a community college
When I asked for help he said "what do you think" and I said I don't know and then he said "You need to think about it more". He does not teach the online homework is horrible. I spend 7 hours per week doing the homework and cases. He eats lunch during his lecture. I am probably going to fail. He does not care. Save yourself please do not take him.
This class is a joke and especially the teacher. This is a BASIC 200 level class and the requirements are so ridiculous. You have to do case studies that are irrelevant to the class and just distract you from actually studying. You basically learn everything on your own! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!! NO JOKE!
NOT a good teacher, the cases are very hard and the one day during the week we meet for lecture all he does is read off his powerpoint which is something we can do on our own, his exams aren't too dificult but he doesn't help and the reviews are pointless. Save yourself and don't take him, any one but him.
Where do I start? Stay away from this class! Yes, Accounting is hard, but getting help was even harder. Asking the professor, lab instructor, or tutoring lab was completely useless. Lectures were boring and pointless. I stopped going. Labs are very hard, and it sucks when you're in a group of dummies. Tests are extremely hard.
This class is hard, but not impossible to pass. The accounting tutoring center was helpful. As for the professor not really. Just take notes when you read, the book is actually a great teacher with the practice problems throughout the chapter. I got an A.
I honestly don't know if I just got lucky this semester or if he turned over a new leaf. Because all I see are complaints about him not being helpful. He was extremely helpful. I'm not even a business major and I absolutely enjoyed and understood his class.
Really great proffessor. I was scared to take this class since everyone warned me about how hard it would be to take it over the summer. The professor was always willing to help, IF YOU ASK. I also used the tutoring center a lot so I wouldn't have to bug him so much. Didn't buy the book so I used Wiley Plus e-book. Just as good & saved some $
To pass this class you really just need to read the book and do the cases. The cases aren't that difficult. Go to the tutoring center, do not ask Hatton for help, i think he just sucks at teaching.
This is a class that requires studying outside & reading the book. It's easy enough to pass if you actually go to lecture, do the homework and read, but requires a lot of memorization. Class consists of one day of lecture and one day of lab(group cases) each week. Give some effort and study and you should be fine.
The class is hard but SO useful. You do have to self teach a little, so I highly recommend buying the actual book so you can highlight etc. if you read the book, you won't have any problems at all in the class. Even though its hard and a lot of info, he is very fair and his lectures match the book and match the exams. Hes tough, but no surprises.
I would like to start by saying.. Accounting is a hard subject to begin with; therefore, any professor will be difficult. There are 2 exams, 5 group case studies, and a cumulative final. Exams are extremely difficult. Case studies are important to do well in to balance your grade if you fail exams!!
Accounting is hard but I didn't know it was gonna be this difficult. Just read the book and do the chapter test. Make sure to get high grades in the 5 cases so if you fail the midterms, you will have a safe buffer zone. Make sure to go to the Assistance center to get tutored at if you are lost with the material.
All over an ok experience. Accounting is a complicated subject, but the book helps a lot. Do all the homework, it helps create a better understanding. Also the case studies do give a good buffer if you don't do well on the tests. All over pretty fair grading.
Accounting is not an easy subject. And unfortunately it is one you have to teach yourself. He is a good professor, but if you want to ace the class you must do the bulk of the learning at home reading the textbook. If you read the textbook and have a good understanding of the material, you can definitely do very well in this class.
The book will be your best friend in this class. DO NOT slack off & skip reading; you will hate yourself when you have to play catch-up before a test. I outlined every chapter and reviewed extensively. I barely passed, but the cases and homework give a good buffer zone to protect you from failing. Hatton isn't terrible, just more of a businessman.
This class was a piece of cake. Understand main concepts and apply them in your hw (wileyplus). If you can do the hw and UNDERSTAND what you are doing, you will ace the tests. Don't make the mistake I did and slack off on the final, no matter how well you are doing in the class.
This class reduced my lifespan by at-least 10 years. Teacher is a businessman; not much of a professor. You learn everything on your own, so not so bad until group case studies are assigned... case studies blow and are just time wasting busy work . take the class in community college... much easier and life saving
he is the hardest teacher ever and hes so hot. but i hate him. he doesnt even teach he acts like we should know everything, but i still want him in my bed
Hard subject.. Hard professor. Lectures are so boring and he makes things so confusing. My TA helped me out the most and also the acct center. The book if your BFF.. Tests are pretty hard also, but the group case studies will help your grade a lot! Attendance is mandatory!
Everybody else has summed it up well. You probably won't have any other options in a teacher because he teachers 250 at a time. Just go to every class, do the online hw as best as you can, work hard on the cases, and at least do well on the first midterm. Thats how I passed and got a C.
I took him 3 years ago for accounting 201A. His class structure was based on reading off the powerpoints. I think the only reason I did well in this course specifically was because i took accounting in high school. Nowadays to pass his class you must do the homework until you understand the concepts and be sure you get a good group for the project
He never teaches like he doesnt take the time to explain anything and when you ask a question he moves so quickly and doesnt speak loudly.
Honestly the professor doesn't get enough credit. The topic is very straight forward if you pay attention. I've taken accounting with a worse professor, so he was great. Do well on the cases because they will boost your grade. Lastly the TA are there to help because he can help all 200+ students.
Glen is one of the coordinator of lower div accounting class. His class is fair, if you want a good grade, you must read the book and understand it. Relying on ppts and notes won't cut it
I had a really hard time with this class. Pretty much failed all of his exams. It's really a self-teach type of class, so make sure you read and understand each chapters WELL. The only reason why I made it with a C is through good scores on homework and the case studies.
The professor makes 0 effort to teach and help the students. He is strict, ignorant, and arrogant. The college might as well fire him and make it an online class. Must rely on Wileyplus, the book, and other online resources in order to pass. I passed because I found this professor on youtube that explains all concepts thoroughly -> Mattfisher64.
It really is a shame that he is the only professor who does 201A. He is AWFUL. I don't think I'm alone when I say that yelling and throwing pens is bad "teaching." Accounting is a really new concept for many people and he does a horrible job at explaining the concepts.
Be prepared to study for this class. He will help you, but only if you ask. If you read the textbook and watch the online lectures you will be fine. There are 5 cases, 2 exams, and the final. Use the Accounting center! They are so much help and one of the main reasons i'm getting a good grade in this class. Good luck!
You have go come to class prepared or you'll be lost. He doesn't teach anything new, he reviews what you're supposed to learn on your own before class. You need the book online. That being said, he knows his stuff but the topic is inherently boring.
Hatton is not much help. You must do your homework and reading before class in order to keep up. Go to the tutoring center! It is the only way to well. Stay on top of your work. Unfortunately, it is a self-teach class.
Does not teach. Tuesdays=Q&A (no lecture...you teach yourself), Thursdays.. you're stuck with an incompetent group of 4 other students. Rude, condescending, arrogant. His previous students say he used to be way better and that he must be going through personal issues because "this isn't like him."
All the reviews here are dead-on. You basically learn everything on your own. Class is used only for questions. Not hard to get an A/B though. The only risk is the assigned group members you'll be stuck with all semester. Good group = good grade. Nice guy but not a great professor. Recommended if you like learning on your own. TAs are very helpful
Such a horrible professor for such a hard subject. It is pretty much an online class. There was rarely lecture and when we did teach, it just confused students more. Really focus on the cases and do your homework. They help you grade in the end. Exams are very difficult. If you can, take it at the JC.
He doesn't use class time to teach you new concepts, but he does use it to help you on the homework. If you UNDERSTAND the homework and do well on the case studies, you'll pretty much get an A in the class. Always read ahead and you will understand what he's talking about in class, otherwise you'll be complaining like these other kids. Study hard.
You MUST stay on top of your reading and hw. Read each chapter through and understand all the concepts. You do case studies with a group of 5 and if you do well on those, they will boost your grade. Wiley hw is tedious but pretty easy to finish. Tests are tricky but if you read and understood the concepts you should be fine!
Entering this class, I was surprised at how it was taught. Half of the class time is with groups while the other half is at a huge seminar. You must use the textbook and go to the tutoring center to understand the material. Since this is a required course for pre-business major, be sure to get a buddy that will help you
It's an easy class if you retain the information. ACCT is kind of confusing, but study the book and ask for help from your TA. The homework can be really tricky, but helpful when studying for exams. DO THE STUDY GUIDES! They really help for exams. Case groups are bleh, but the assignments are do-able if you have to do them yourself.
The professor did not teach at all. I relied on homework and the textbook to teach me. You must attend class because he likes to do iclicker questions at the very beginning of each class. If you miss one of those he will not bump up your grade even if you are 2% away from passing. Overall very hard and uninteresting.
Take this with extreme precaution and start paying attention from the very first chapter. It only takes being behind one chapter to completely throw you off the course. I earned a high B on my first midterm but starting with the 2nd unit, it got so confusing i got a D on the midterm and it only went downhill from there.
Hatton knows what he is talking about, but does not make it easy for students to understand. Your TA will be much more helpful when it comes to dumbing down the information. Take advantage of the tutoring center, they help with anything you need. Do well on the case studies, do your homework, it will balance out when you get poor exam grades.
Prof. = ok. This course requires significant effort to at least get a C. The subject is hard enough to grasp as it is, so do not fall behind on the readings and homework. It will only get more difficult from there. Exams are difficult. Weekly (Wiley+) homework is required. Take advantage of the tutoring center. Final exam is cumulative. Good luck!
This is my first bad review in two years here at CSUF! Worst professor i've had so far. Doesn't seem to give a D about helping the students understand. He gets upset when students ask questions and says we should know it even though its brand new material. Try to avoid if possible.
An already tough class my worse by a professor who doesn't really teach. online HW is mandatory and there is so much of it. I got a A on the first and second tests, and still failed the final(%50). It is cumulative and the question are very random.
Accounting in general is hard but Hatton does a great job at explaining it to you; especially if you're willing to ask questions! There is a tutoring center with a lot of hours, so if you're stuck you should utilize it. Read your book, do the homework... it's not THAT hard if you do what you need too!
Okay teacher, go to your TAs for help on the cases tho and stay on top of the hw online and youll be just fine
no plus/minus system in his class. go to the TA's for help because his explanations are confusing. have the TA's check your cases in advance and you should be fine in this class. wiley homework two-three times a week but it's more to boost your grade
Lectures are just questionanswer sessions. 95 of the material needed to pass the class will come down to learning the course material on your own. Would not recommend.
Do not recommend. semester long group projects. show up or lose credit EVERY class. Take cases to TAs before turning it in. Do good on the cases and you can pass the class with low test scores. Tons of reading to teach yourself. "lectures" are hour long q and a about homework. 2 assignments a week (not counting the case).
Very difficult class. Attendance is mandatory. Class lectures do not prepare you for the exams. Study guides are not helpful. Would never take a class like this again.
DON'T DO IT. makes you reconsider majoring in business.
Class is harder than it needs to be. Required attendance, online homework, semester long group projects and very difficult exam. Would not recommend.
Class (as a whole) was difficult. I felt the lectures contributed almost nothing to learning the material. Nearly all the material most be learned by yourself. Test are difficult and unreflective of the homework or lectures.
I have no idea why this professor even holds lectures. He practically doesn't teach anything and then he can't figure out why the class is failing exams. The homework, lectures, and group cases are of no help on the exams. Also, the study guides he hands out do not reflect the exam in any way. Overall, this has been the worst course I have taken.
Would not recommend
Just failed this class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I wish I never took this class. I have no Idea why he is "teaching" accounting. All the exams that he has given have been completely unreflective of the study guides (which were a thousand times easier than the actual exam). The lectures (if you can call them that) were just question answer sessions. The hw and the projects were just busy work.
I have taken a lot of classes and this is the worst one I have taken.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN! happy to have passed and never have to see his face again. DID NOT teach, do not know what the school is paying him for bc he does nothing. Do well on case studies they help your grade. Take advantage of the tutoring rooms
So, just finished the class in fall semester of 2014... Worst teacher ever. He is rude, he thinks he's so cool, he doesn't help. Unfortunately, he teaches 75% of all students bcz of large class sizes, however AVOID THIS GUY IF YOU CAN... Luckily, I passed. 30% of your WHOLE grade is group cases, so if you have a bad group, you're totally screwed
I literally have no words for such a horrible teacher. I have never had such a bad teacher in my entire life who makes me so angry. I put in so much effort and time into this class yet I still barely have a passing grade. I am not sure how such a teacher is still allowed to teach at CSUF, it makes the school look so bad and makes students hate acct
Look at all the other reviews posted. I have taken this class and what all these other students have written is nearly spot on. I will be taking this class again next semester and I can't do anything about it. What ever you do, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I seriously worked my butt off for the testsFinal but always managed to get Ds but there's hope. Got an A on hmwk + case studies & I gotta B! I think He's a great teacher 1 on 1 (better than my TA) and mostly the problem is the 201A class not the professor himself. It is very rigid w department wide textbook & Final + overwhelming material
I don't know how to I passed this class. If you bomb all your tests, but if you do good on your cases studies you can pass. He is not a good teacher, he makes everything so much more complicated than it has to be. Read the book to understand everything and make sure you do good on all the homework. If you can take this class somewhere else.
I don't think CSUF could have picked a professor that was worse then Hatton. This class was a horrible experience . If possible , take this class somewhere else.
I honestly didn't learn anything from this professor because he had us read every section on our own online before coming to class for review. He's also one of those teachers that provide study guides that are nothing like the test. Out of the 40 questions on the "study guide", only about 3 problems will look similar on the actual test.
Don't take this class. Hatton uses that non-teaching method of teaching.
I hated this class with a passion. This class was one of the worst I have taken in my years at CSUF. You have assignments which are designed for the pure purpose of wasting your time, you have exams which have nothing to do with what is taught in lectures, homework or cases and you have a professor which does not care about the students.
Do not take this class.
This professor deserves the worst professor of the year award. He deserve it. He is a total and utter failure as a professor and he let down his students. I wish I didn't take this class.
If you want a professor that does not teach any of the material needed to pass the class or someone who is just doesn't care. Take this class, if not stay as far away from this class as possible.
I can't describe how bad Hatton is at teaching. Just don't take this class
Compared to other professor, Hatton is the worst. Failed this class and now I regret ever taking it.
I'm surprised at how much hate Hatton is getting. I mean, yeah, it's a difficult class, but it's accounting. I showed up to all the classes, did all the homework, and paid attention and got a B. Realistically, these people complaining likely didn't put in the work in the first place and are blaming the teacher for their poor grades.
Hatton is a decent prof but the way the class is structured is ludicrous. Half of the time is spent with pre-assigned groups working on "cases" which are worth more than tests so, as echoed before, Good Group Good Grade. Tests are actually very hard & insidiously designed to trick students. Wiley HW is tedious and pure filler but pads your grade
Expect to teach yourself Financial Accounting, because this professor does not do that. His class sessions, instead of lecturing, he answers students questions and spends an hour talking nonsense. I would advise you not to take this professor, but who else can you take? The whole accounting department at CSUF is a mess, I've taken two acct courses.
Its very fast paced for a complex subject. He assumes students will know what he talks about on lecture days. My advice is to make time each week to read. You NEED to read the chapters or you will fall behind. It'll become a habit, just gotta force yourself to do it first. The train to 201B starts on week 1 and he's not gonna stop for anyone.
Professor Hatton can not teach in anyway, so get ready to study and read. There are 5 group projects which are pretty annoying. Wiley Plus HW are pretty tedious. This class was so hard I dropped my major. DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING!
Attendance is mandatory, every class you miss affects 1.5 of your grade. One day is lecture and the other day is for small groups and work projects. HE DOES NOT TEACH ON LECTURE DAYS, he gives you tips. HW answer found online. Tip to pass class, go to all classes, do good on group project, and on get practice test, especiall final
I had to take Glen Hatton due to a lack of choice. If you have a chance to take another professor, do so for your own sanity. His iClicker policy is a joke and nearly failed me. I had to write to the accounting department to get him to email me back. He does not lecture. There is a reason why he is not so popular on YikYak. #hattonhaters
Acct. is a new language in itself- get ready to study a lot! It's not the professor's fault that the class is ran in such a condensed manner- there's a lot of material to cover. One professor can only teach so many students in an hour. Regardless, Prof. Hatton is very professional, he IS helpful, and he knows the subject like the palm of his hand.
Strongly do not recommend! I attended every class and still struggled constantly. He was not clear and he has a bit of an attitude when he is presented with a question. HW is ALL online I decided to take this class at OCC and have learned more in 2 weeks than I ever did in 2 semesters of Hatton's class.
No lecture . It's a do it yourself class, self-teaching. Asks us to come to class with questions, sometimes his response to questions will be "didn't you read?" The online videos do all the teaching. Homework due 2x a week online, 5 case studies in the same group for the whole semester. Don't get to pick group either. Tests are extremely hard,STUDY
Worst prof I've ever taken. I asked him to clarify something, he gave me a blank stare for about 5 seconds, told me to read syllabus, and then walked away. Material isn't difficult. Class lectures are boring and if you skip you lose a lot of participation. I skipped about 6 lectures got F on the final and got a C in the class. Take it at a jc
I dreaded taking this class and I was right. He is the worst teacher and really ruined any chance of making me an accountant major. He doesn't teach and the only thing that saved my grade was the massive amount of homework and attendance. I was elated with my C.
Class is based of lecture and labs. Can't choose your own groups so prepare for the lazy ones. Attendance is a must, if you miss a class it will be -1.5% of your total grade. Lectures are very dry and hard to understand, so be prepared to study on your OWN. Student Assistants are very helpful and teach way better than Hatton.
THE WORST PROFESSOR! I took this class and I feel like I learned NOTHING. He does not teach you anything, you have to teach yourself through the readings and online homework. The whole accounting setup is screwed up at this school. Group projects are a waste of time. He wastes time in lecture telling us what we need to know rather than teaching us
You might think you are ready for the exams, but oh you are so wrong. You might know his study guides by heart but the tests are so different. They consist mostly of definitions rather than knowing how to solve a problem. Exams are worth 30% of your grade so if you want an A you need like an 87% average in all 3 exams and an A in everything else.
*Regular Semesters* IF YOU CAN AVOID THIS CLASS. The whole class setup and Accounting department is bad at CSUF. Class is taught in 2 section. Tuesday lass is taught in a big lecture hall. Hard to follow Hatton ON what he is saying. Thursday class is in small groups (bad group bad grade). Group projects will save your grade. AVOID THIS CLASS.
*Summer Session* This class is 100 times better during the summer because its in a smaller environment (only 30 people instead of 250). I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME TAKING ACCOUNTING. Doing 16 weeks of work in 5. Hatton is actually better in the summer than in regular semesters. Still a hard class.
Hatton is very experienced in accounting. However, not so experienced in teaching it. His lectures are all over the place. The moment he writes the first letter on the board, you are completely lost. Group projects and homework are tedious. Midterms and Final is department based, not his fault. You WILL NOT pass if you fail the final.
People who thinks his class is hard should change major. It only gets worse from there. Compared to all the other accounting teachers in CSUF, honestly, he's the better one. The class was structure in a way to force you to learn. If you do everything, it's an easy pass. Getting an A is another story, but that's the same every other classes.
It's like any other accounting class. He is a really nice professor, but lectures are basically reviewing the textbook. I had to retake the class and the only way I passed was his lenience with the online homework and notes for the exams (NOT the final). He made it as easy as he could while satisfying the department.
Take it at a community college! That was my regret for this class, saves you money&they also teach you the subject as opposed to you doing it on your own. The way the department is set up is that this is a "do it yourself" class. You can pay less to have a teacher actually teach you at a JC or you can take it here pay an arm&limb doing it youself
Overall I think this class was fair. I gotta admit, it definitely challenges you to study hard and to stay on top of it. Professor is helpful and he tries his best to help his students as best as he can. You will do fine as long as you keep up with homework, study the materials, and do decent on the case studies.
Ill start off with the biggest issue, you will not get taught in this class, you are expected to teach yourself. Tests are very hard and you better study for them. There are excessive amounts of time consuming homework. That being said the professor is very helpful in office hours and does a lot of curving at the end of the semester to help you.
He really cares the students. His tests are not that hard if you read. His lectures work for me. The way he explains help me understand the materials. By going to his lectures and read the books before each exam, you can get at least a B. Really hate group project, it brought my grade down. Can't blame him since it is the department's requirement
I took him way back in the Summer of 2011. He inspired me to change my major to Accounting and I eventually earned a Masters in Accounting from CSUF and went on to work for KPMG. I can't imagine if Hersch or Miller were my first exposure to accounting. I would have changed my major. Glen is awesome and an inspiration to all.
He teaches nothing. You have to read, and go to his lecture, where he just briefly goes over the reading. His lectures are no help at all. You have to buy a $50 Iclicker so he can take attendance through every day class quizzes. 4 group projects, each really hard. 2 Midterms, and a final, also really hard. You basically have to self study all time
Extremely unhelpful and unclear.
I hate this prof. Because of him, my grade is dropping. He doesn't know how to teach. I am a guy who needs a teacher to explain things clearly, reading book isn't my thing. If the prof. doesn't know how to explain hard concepts, then reading them is no use, because you won't understand anything. All his lectures are useless. DONT TAKE HIM PLEASE
I-clicker quiz every Tuesday so you have to show up to class, tons of homework, and grades hard. You learn nothing in his class and should just self study this. Group projects are extremely hard and so are the tests. Class is extremely difficult and requires you to read all and understand it. Do not recommend for anyone.
His class consisted of two separate classes. One was the Tuesday lecture, which was not much of a lecture at all. He would go over one thing and there was still the rest of the powerpoint to go over. My second class with the groups wasn't too bad. Cases are reasonable. It's a self-taught class.
Accounting is a very hard class but this course is set up in a way that makes it easier. If you ever need help there is an assistance center for this class that is open from 9am to 5pm. I would not say he's the best teacher, but he is very knowledgeable and if you try, you can pass.
do not underestimate this class. the problem is that he doesn't teach, he reviews. know the difference. he is very knowledgeable and is willing to help you a lot. it's a self-taught class, so be prepared. case study groups are assigned randomly, so bad group means not a fun time. I got an A but I had to study insanely hard.
Yes, this class sucks. Hatton doesn't really teach, so everything is self-teaching. Just pray for a decent group & get your group cases checked at the tutoring center for 100%. The tests are hard, so do super well on everything else (hw, cases, iclicker q's), and you should land at least a B.
I-clicker quiz every Tuesday so you have to show up, or you will miss some points. In Tuesday class, he only emphasizes some details and mostly you have to learn it yourself. And the exam is difficult, so it's hard to pass.
Hatton's class setup does not work for him, but it works for Hoffman (201B). Hatton expects you to known everything and assumes you've already had some accounting experience. I found this class challenging to grasp at first, but kept working at it and increased my grade towards the end. Do the homework. Go to the review sessions.
Beware of the final. everything else is manageable.
Hardest class I've taken so far. You teach yourself. I barely missed an A- in the class, and it's the first B I've ever gotten since elementary school. This class is like 2 or 3 in 1. Take at a community college. that's what I did for 201b and I do not regret it. For the project, Bad Group Bad Grade. Aced the first midterm, but the Final is tough
His lectures are not dedicated to teaching the material, you're expected to do that on your own. But his lectures are designed to answer student questions, which he does fine. You must show up everyday or you will get docked. Online access is about $100. Accounting makes me hate life, so there is not much to expect from any teacher of this course.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE. DO NOT TAKE IT HERE. I BARELY PASSED
COMMUNITY COLLEGE. DO NOT TAKE IT HERE
Take this class at a community college. The TAs didn't enjoy their job. If you do take him, get ready to learn all of it by yourself. The book is your bible! Study it back and forth. Got a D on all tests including the final but passed with a 73%, thanks to my assigned groups' case studies and homework. Has an iClicker so you have to come to class
Bad group bad grade. Group cases can either save your grade or completely destroy it. Going to the accounting center does help but the TA's are SO RUDE. You must read before every lecture since he doesn't teach, he only reviews and adds on. Attendance is mandatory, iclicker on Tuesdays and sign in sheet on Thurs (with your group).
Get ready to teach yourself accounting. He only reviews on what youve read. I passed only because I had a good case group.
Only reviews for lectures so read and review on your own. Take advantage of TA's and accounting center, they saved my life. Case Studies will help your grade ! Make your group work with you on this if you do bad on the test. Honestly was a struggle and would recommend taking it at a CC if possible. Online hwk, 10q in total and 2 midterms & final.
Hatton is not the best professor. Although he is very knowledgable of the subject he simply does not teach. Asking him questions is a nightmare since he answers with another question. Lecture is mandatory because of the iClicker questions, but feels useless because of the lack of an actual lecture. Case Studies truly save your grade.
How to get a B to A-: You must take detailed notes. I spend hours on teaching myself the material. Don't rely on the lectures; they are useless. Use the tutoring ctr. to get help on homework and case studies! Work together as a team; the cases can really help your grade! Be prepared to spend hours on hw and notes! Avoid this class if not acct major
This class is just something else! Hatton does not teach at all! You need to read and come answer on your clicker every Tuesday. Hope you get a good case group. Take in college and save yourself.
Be prepared to teach yourself and spend lots of time for this class
The class is all self-taught, so make sure you're self-disciplined. I wish I listened to others when they said take it at a CC. I got a 55 on both midterms, a 64 on the final, 100 on the case studies and passed. Wasnt easy, though, even with these grades. Make sure to get cases checked. This class takes up so much of your time. Good luck
This class requires a lot of your time if you want to succeed. Hatton doesn't teach, he reviews the material in class & you have to come ready to answer iClickers. but he does care & want you to pass. Going to the tutoring center HELPS A LOT with your case studies, exams, & homework! The exams are pretty hard so do well on all your cases!
I came in pretty scared but it wasn't too bad. Take this class with someone or make friends quick that'll help with the hw. Cases are super easy I got all As. I was out for a month or so because of an emergency and I still came back to pass with a B. Go to tutoring they help so much. Attendance is mandatory. If you do all that its an easy pass.
Get ready to LEARN EVERY SINGLE THING ON YOUR OWN. If you aren't good at self-teaching, you're in for a doozy. You have to come to class already knowing the material. He forces this by making homework assignments due the night before class. The one thing that got me A's on tests were the powerpoints uploaded on Titanium. Read those & you'll do gr8
He barely teaches. Be ready to read and study on ur own. He gives quizzes before he start to teach. He would let you ask questions, but remember don't ask him. He would embarrass you in front of the whole class before he gives the answer. I have never met a professor worse than this one.
He is a mean professor. You have to put a lot of effort to get a good grade. However, his TA are really helpful! Go to the tutoring center to do your case and review for exams, and you will get a good grade.
This class requires a lot of self learning outside of the class room. He can be hard to approach. You have to read. He doesn't lecture much, just answers questions and tests to see if you read.
Worst class I took at CSUF. I took the second course of accounting at mt sac community college and my professor there showed me how bad Hatton was. He didn't teach us anything and relied on us to learn from the textbook. When he would do examples in class he would do it wrong. Take this class somewhere else. He isn't the best. Lots of homework.
Hatton has no choice but to run the class the way he does. He's a great professor because he's ready to help. Class material is difficult & too much to discuss in class. I spent days studying to get an A or B on exams. Advice: Get case checked at acct center frequently & watch every review video from homework because that's your real professor!!!
Accounting 201A with Hatton is manageable. You are kind of forced to learn a lot on your own, but if you study the material before each class session, you should be fine. Do the online homework and make sure you attend every class; otherwise, you lose 1.5% per class. This class is tough and it requires a lot of studying and preparation.
I do not usually rate professors but he really does not teach. Just like the previous students said before me you have to learn it on your own. He does not lecture. I recommend buying the paper loose leaf book. Practical class in the work environment but needs major improvements at CSUF
Accounting is a difficult class to begin with so I don't blame Hatton 100% for his high fail rate because the content is difficlt. But he is an uncaring professor who is unhelpful, expect to teach urself the entire class and get good grades on the group projects because your grade is depending on it. Expect an Clicker question each class session.
He explains the concepts so easily and thoroughly that you'd only need to be able to skim through the pages of the book just to pass the class with a B, at worst. Even if you end up doing poorly one exam and do fair on the others, it's still very very possible to pass. Especially if you do well on all your case projects.
The hw is due the day before the lecture that goes over that section. His lectures are not too helpful because he only goes over 2 questions the entire class and does not even use his powerpoints. We are separated into smaller groups with student teachers that helps us a little more. I've had to teach myself most of it and seek a lot of extra help.
Lecture are dry and boring. Make sure you go to class as attendance will be 1.5% deducted from overall grade. Go to tutoring as this help a lot over the course. Study guides will help with test.
I took him in the Fall of 2017 and he is not a great professor. He is very passive aggressive and doesn't teach very well. You have to self study in this class and don't ask him for help because he will complain about that you should know this already and get mad. Go to the tutoring center and ask others for help if needed.
Okay listen up! The entire accounting program for non-accounting business majors is completely broken. Additionally, this professor is one of the worst in the business program. I strongly recommend taking this course online at a JC. Youll save yourself a lot of stress and time because the work load in this class is rediculous.
If you are not someone who can't teach yourself, then don't take it here. Otherwise, the class is definitely passable. Don't understand why people think he's a bad professor. Would you rather listen to boring lectures from the textbook, or do what he does and answer direct questions in class?
People need to expose the accounting department. Hatton & Hoffman are not supposed to be doing what they are doing. People need to let the dean know, he actually listens and wants to make changes. Take action and get a real education. Do not let the acctounting department run you, we run them. Put them in their place and boycott their classes
If you're going to take this class, you'll be fine. The class is doable. Do the homework and DON'T SKIP CLASS. You will loose 1.25% of your grade. I had a solid B most of the semester (before I bombed the final) by just doing the practice exams. Questions on those show up on the actual test, so do them. Prepare a week in advance for the final, srsly
I can wholeheartedly say that Hatton sucks. the class is huge and no one asks questions a majority of the time. GO TO THE SI sessions that are provided. They help TREMENDOUSLY. do the homework, show up to class to get credit, and do well on the cases. Those three things should help you out A LOT. Get ready to teach yourself the material.
Honestly, this course was horrible. I did not learn a single thing from Professor Hatton, everything that I learned for this class was done outside of the classroom via YouTube. As his lectures go, they where just horrible he would spend the 75 min yelling at us for asking a question, A word from the wise... AVOID AT ALL COSTS
i think this class traumatized me. i took it fall 2017 and even around christmas time i would panic because i needed to study accounting, even though i had passed (by just a few questions) a few weeks earlier. he expects you to already have solid accounting skills. only passed because i had a great group for the project. wiley homework required.
Epicness and essence of a quintessential father figure!!!! Lovely and all-around cool dude!!!!
If you've never looked at accounting before you are going to struggle. There's a lot of concepts you're going to know and the class goes by super fast. Just make sure you go to SI and read the book because he won't teach you in class. He will review but he's all over the place never really focuses on the concepts from the chapter.
Glen Hatton is an excellent teacher. Although it may not seem like it, he genuinely cares about you raising your grade. Hatton encourages questions during class, promotes SI sessions, and posts all chapter lectures early in the semester. This isn't a class where answers are spoon-fed to you to memorize for the exam. Pro tip: Go to midterm reviews!
He expects you to know everything before lecture. He just talks on about what's in the chapter, but 98% of the time it's confusing. Learning the material is mainly from Wiley homework, not his lectures. Midterms are tough. Group projects are what saves your grade (sorta). I wish I had another professor but he's kinda the only one you can get.
After taking this class, I can guarantee that every good review about Hatton was either written by him, one of his colleagues, or his friends and family. He has not taught me anything. I have learned by reading chapters, doing homework, and going to SI sessions. His lectures are pointless but you must go to them or your grade will suffer. AVOID HIM
each class you miss, he deducts 1.5% of your OVERALL grade. his lectures are almost impossible to follow, he skips around and explains random material from different chapters. you basically have to teach yourself the work & remember to do the online homework (which are randomly assigned on Monday/Friday nights..?) don't take him!! save urself
Another college class where youre spending money to teach yourself. Every absence is minus 1.5% off your TOTAL GRADE. A lot of hw, if your case study group is bad you probably wont pass. You need a an average of 55% on test grades(3tests) to pass the class which is crazy when the class average for each test is around 60%.
He teaches you nothing and if you miss class thats 15 points deducted every single time ... get ready to teach yourself and get a tutor
Saying "take this somewhere else" is useless because in a lot of situations he is the only option So Read all the reviews before doing the homework. Do the homework Do all practice problems prior to the exams use class time to do homework and your own readings instead of wasting time wating for hatton to say anything useful try best with cases
Tough class, you have to put lots of time and efforts into it to actually understand the materials. I am majoring in Accounting, first time taken the class and I tried so hard and ended up with a B. I would say get ready to study everything independently, one chapter per week and get help from the tutoring center!
He makes you work for the answer. His teaching style reminds of the saying, "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach the man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". He encourages you to go out to events and meet people who can help you. Ex: SI sess, Midterm reviews, office hours. Professor Hatton genuinely wants the best for his students
The hardest class I've taken. He only lectures on one day and when he does he's all over the place. The other day is given to work on cases with your group. Also, you're stuck with the same group for the WHOLE semester. If you get stuck with a bad group, you'll have a difficult time raising your grades since the cases are a big part of your grade.
Worst class I've ever taken. It was so unorganized, I basically taught myself everything or my group taught me. He only lectures once a week and then the other class you work on cases that you are assigned to in random groups. I studied so hard for this class and seemed like I learned nothing. He also gives lots of hw. I suggest you read the book.
just plain awful
This is a very challenge class because most people did not know anything about accounting. Only one day lecture a week, the other day you work on case study with group members that are randomly chosen. I'll say do well on your case because it really help the grade a lot. Also, there are many outside resources for help.
Accounting 201A and B are set up for students to teach themselves. It forces you to put in the effort to learn the material. You have to dedicate a lot of time, but it definitely pays off. The structure of it is very frustrating. The department treats us like children and makes us jump through all these hoops. Not the prof's fault though.
Awful class. Have to teach yourself all the material.
Basically have to teach the material to yourself. He loves to make students feel stupid for asking questions/getting answers wrong. He doesn't explain the material well, but expects students to understand it right away. Do the readings and go to SI
Absolutely horrific and also made me reconsider life. I genuinely considered ending my life because of how stupid and unintelligent this fool made me feel. Literally the worst professor and person I've ever met. He's literally the only choice so gl if u take this class.
This guy is the only professor for this class at CSUF. Do yourself a favor and take it online or at a JC. Wasted 2 semesters on this guy who openly admits most people dont pass his class the first try. Im sure its incredibly difficult to get rid of teachers in the CSU system so do it for yourself and take somewhere else. Just read the reviews...
The worst professor you'll ever have as he doesn't teach absolutely anything. He openly says that most people don't pass his class & tries to shame you for asking any type of question. Aside from this, his sense of humor is just bizarre. Take this class at a JC or wherever you can because you'll definitely regret choosing him & wasting your time.
i was lucky enough to pass the class, despite all the effort i put in the class. he makes you read lectures before class but does not teach the subject. instead he talks about his life or other irrelevant accounting things. dont ask questions because hes just going to make fun of you in class. you need to teach yourself because he wont teach you
