despite the fact that he is obsessed with sex, not a bad teacher. good sense of humour and passionate about what he teaches. difficult marker-his tests are brutal. he goes off on tangents then includes the info in his tests. so write everything down.

Hilarious teacher, energetic, sits on table, entertaining, he'll sing for ya!! great easy to listen to voice!!! Enthusiastic about what he's teaching!!

i didnt' find him a very hard marker at all. just pay attention in class and attend class and the final will be a breaze..cos it's open book

I think Glenn rocks

Glenn is hands down THE BEST teacher I have ever had. He really knows his stuff but he also knows how to keep students interested. Even the meat heads(you know who you are). If you get the chance take his course...

Great teacher for you if you are lazy. Not too much works, and even cancel some in the course outline. His novel is morden, reacent,pop, and usually poblished in other language too...you may read a book in your language...but not quite nice after class.

if you have half a sense of humour you will realize that this guy is hilarious. He makes a mandatory class interesting. Awsome teacher

I have to admit this guy is hilarious. This is not a boring class at all! He's very knowledgeable and quite an interesteing character, although his class is tough. I've had A's all my life in English but managing only a 'C' in his. If you want an 'A' make sure your writing is beyond ordinary.

He is HILARIOUS. He is a really funny, cool, teacher. But don't let that deceive you. He still marks his essays fairly hard. He is very helpful because he takes out one day and to one-on-one sessions. This class was one of the best class even though I didn't get a good mark. Interesting, too!!

loved the class, although, i suggest you participating in discussions. He is very clear on what he is expecting for the essays; both format and content(just take note of the arguments he presents in class). He's quite a character which made the class interesting as well.

Glenn is a great and hiliarious guy, he's quite a fair marker and he's pretty lenient if you need an extension on some assignment. although he may look a bit scary up close, it's just his normal countenance. definitely the biggest literature enthusiast i've ever met.

I believe he marks a lot harder now because fall 04 he had a student who he gave an A+ to. His first. Now you will all be compared to his greatness. That is the consensus in my class, which is now empty.

Glen is awesome. If anyone says he's not a good teacher, their mental capacity must be quite limited. He is sarcastic, educated, energetic, smart and really loves what he does. I REALLY enjoyed his class, and would GLADLY take him again. He is absolutely amazing, and a fair marker. He will not screw you over, and will help you understand everything

Anyone who can make the canterbury tales interesting is ok in my books! Glen is a passionate teacher. Very fair marker. I never went to class and I didnt feel like he marked my half ass essays unfairly. He provides helpful comments.

I think he meant that 1st year students are not generally equipped to recieve an A yet-it takes practice. Glen looks for clarity and thought in his students' papers. He's intelligent, hillarious, insiteful and actually quite sweet. He treats his students like adults. Glen was definitly born to teach, he is very good at what he does.

Good teacher. Would take a class with him again. He is easy to relate to if you are a pubescent, interested in drinking and sex, and need to take an english course.

I've taken almost every english class that Langara offers, and Glenn Isaak is the best instructor I have had. He is truly passionate about literature, and his enthusiasm is infectious. Glenn marks fairly, and if you can present innovative ideas and interpretations on literature in your essays, you can get A's (just like I did). Open book exams too!

Fabulous instructor that imparts knowledge in a manner that is considerate of students' views and their abilities.He never makes you feel inferior. He is an incredibly funny guy who makes class interesting and the material memorable. I found that rather than looking at my watch to see when class woulld end I was actually hoping for it to continue.

G.Isaak is the best instructor I have had in my 2 years at Langara. I like his way of teaching and his incredible personality.

Very good teacher. One of the best in the department. Highly recommended. He knows what he is talking about unlike many of the other instructors. His grading is fair, but not the easiest marker around. Expectations are very clear. If you don't read the novel before class though, you won't know what the hell is going on.

Loved his classes and creative approach. After having taken his survey of Elglish Lit and Classical Lit in translation, became convinced that English was gonna be my major. Easy going, relaxed and stimulating atmosphere is a given in his class room. The best prof I've had. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Too bad I ran out of courses to take from him

Fair marker. Clear instructions. Knows what he's talking about. Practically takes you through essay-making 101. And I'm sure unlike other profs, he makes it clear on what he wants on his papers. The short stories are enjoyable. However, I wish there is more stuff that he can grade on for me to have progress in my writing.

He is a nice proffesor, a funny guy. I didn't want to live his class after the bell rang. He teaches with ease, but don't expect easy marks.

I have taken three of his courses so far, and loved every one! He marks fairly, and if you don't know how to write essays he is very helpful. It's a real joy to have a prof who loves and knows well what he teaches. I'm only in this 8:30am course because he teaches it, and I plan on taking the next half as well even though it too is at 8:30am.

Fair marker, teachers pretty good however not recommended for people who arent good at english such as ESL students. Also he takes off lots of marks for bad grammer

Very good teacher, I would definitely recommend him. The one class I actually look forwards to going to. As others has said, he is passionate about the subject and that makes the class more interesting. He isn't an easy marker, but he is a fair marker. Very helpful, likes when people ask questions.

I have the UTMOST respect for this man. He is wildly unique, and has an incredibly quizzical, quirky sense of humour: if he weren't a prof, he'd be an awesome actor. He loves sarcasm, knows how to appreciate lively, creative writing, and is even patient with people who ask retarded questions. Amazing, amazing. Am I a keener? Only for English ;

Glen's english class was the only class i looked forward to! He's a really nice man. Funny too! always made me laugh! his class was easy too. you'll be fine if u keep up with the readings. and not that many papers to write either! take his class if u can!

Prepare for cheesy puns, random singing, smoking an (electric) cigarette in class, and all kinds of other craziness. Very helpful and passionate! An excellent prof.

Best English teacher EVER! I had zero interest in ENGL prior to this class, dreaded poetry, literary analysis, etc. Glenn makes it so interesting and fun...and funny! His passion for English and teaching is obvious and you can't help but be interested in his lectures. Very fair marker, approachable, supportive, and open minded. Amazing Prof!!

somehow got 80% on 2 of my worst ever in-class essays that i've ever written... and somehow got only 75% what i believed was one of my best take-home papers.

The stuff I learned in his course was extremely interesting and has helped shaped how I will write in the future. Gets off topic but is awesome when it does haha.

Awesome prof. I'd recommend him to anyone. He talks a lot, but I enjoyed his classes. He's also nice and approachable. A word of warning: the take home essays are marked a lot harder than the in-class essays.

I found him to be very down-to-earth, supportive and genuinely interested in his students' progress. Consistent with previous reviewers, I found him to be a very fair (not easy!) marker. I honestly dreaded having to take English, but then I took it with Glenn and actually enjoyed it! He made me realize I have potential and that literature is not as boring as I thought it was. A few easy quizzes here and there (if you've done your reading), and easy essays (if you ask questions). Absolutely recommended.

Honestly, I don't know how I got a B. I did fairly well on a lot of in class exams / papers (80% average ish) and thought that participation would bump me to a b+. He must mark the final a lot harder than everything else. Otherwise he is a great, fun and hilarious prof. Highly recommended.

He's incredibly passionate about his subject and he makes his classes very entertaining. He goes off on long tangents but they are interesting and informative. He probably should assign himself a time monitor at the beginning of each class in order to keep himself on track though :) Highly recommend him. Fair marker too!

probably one of the best professors i ever had, he is very clear and as long as he understands what you are writing, you will get high marks, He usually asks questions to the class, but will answer them himself, and when it comes to using the textbook, he only uses it when we have to do writing, or in small group work. overall a great professor

This man is one of the best professors I have ever had. I have always hated english and have always been terrible at it. When I took Glen's class I actually enjoyed it and pulled out a C+! (thats good for me). He came off a little weird but when u get to know him, he's awesome. Great teacher, loves what he does.

Glenn is an entertaining teacher. He often let the class go off topic which made for interesting discussions. His style is very unstructured and he's definitely not for everyone. I am a much better essay writer and learned a lot about explication after taking his class. If you like English and have a good grasp of it, take his class. If not, don't!

Best teacher, thats why i took him twice. Open book tests, so basically its an easy A JUST as long as you take notes about everything he says (when analyzing poems or reading books...whenever) because whatever he speaks about goes on the tests. OPEN BOOK, PEOPLE! take him!

Glenn is easy-going and sometimes his jokes can be a bit vulgar. MAKE SURE to read ahead of class in order to ace the pop quizzes. As long as you go to class and jot down notes, his midterms/exams should be easy :)

Glen is AMAZING. Incredibly interesting lectures, done off the top of his head. English isn't my subject, but he's one of those professors that obviously adores the subject matter and that makes all the difference. Take him.

He's a very nice teacher and a fairly easy marker. Only thing I have to say is that I don't think I've learned much from his class. Although it's very easy to get a high mark since everything is open book, his teaching... well they're interesting I guess. His quizzes are easy too if you do the reading beforehand (easy marks right there). Good Luck!

Glenn is such an awesome and fair marker prof. His lectures are very interesting. I always looked forward to attend his classes. He is a very outgoing and understanding prof. He always sets a good atmosphere in class with his continuous jokes and laughter... Definitely has a contagious laughter

Amazing teacher. Some of his lectures are thought provoking and he is clearly very passionate about English! Don't be hesistant about asking for help if he comes off a bit standoffish. If you see him during office hours, he's very warm and is open to answering your questions. He let me have an extension on my paper. It's worth taking!

Amazing teacher! LIvely lectures! He's very helpful if you have any questions. But, unfortunately I didn't feel like I improved my essay writing. He didn't give enough practice to get better. But, good teacher overall! Very funny.

Sometimes I wish I could have met this guy earlier. Glenn is funny and engaging. I knew I didn't do well in the first in-class writing and thought I've totally bombed it, but it turned out that I got a C+ (although it is not decent, at least it's a pass!) I kinda like how he has grammar class once a week just to ensure students know the stuff

Glen Isaak is an amazing prof! He is a fair and generous marker! I thought I failed his midterms (in-class essays), but he gave me a decent pass that will allow me to go into the nursing program! Also, be prepared to read the assigned stories ahead of time as there will be pop quizes, and the quizes are NOT open book, but the midterms and finals are open book! Additionally, he talks A LOT, yet he is very entertaining, that there is no time to practice your writing skills in class. However, even if you are terrible at English or essay writing like me, I will guarantee that you will get at least a C+ or higher on your assignments and exams! Bonus, during oral defence week , you will get the entire week off of classes!

Glen was an awesome prof! Although by taking him you won't necessarily improve your writing skills, but still he's very nice and marks fairly easy. If I need to I will definitely take him for English 1129! Oh and he lets you use the book and your notes for the final!

Issak manages to make an english class hilarious with his vulgarity. However, if you want a decent pass, come to class early for the pre-reading quizzes, and record his lectures because whatever he says will be on your midterm, especially the vocab terms. Overall, you'll do fine since you can gain 20% easily from attendance and the quizzes.

Glenn is the best English teacher I have ever had! I have taken three courses with him and I would take more if needed. He is REALLY funny and super intelligent. He is always mentioning very interesting historic facts and up to date news, which keeps the lectures more fun. Easy too. Choose him if you can :)

I enjoyed his lectures every much. His lectures are always interesting and funny. Make sure you get to class a little early or you might miss the pop quiz, he usually hints the day before that his going to give one. Gives good feed back, ready to help if you ask, fair grader. As long as you do the work you will pass.

Such an amazing and vibrant professor. I've had him twice before and would again. His lectures are hardly boring, and once you get into the material, it's really an experience. I will say however that you should be aware of reading--he'll expect you to do a lot of it. He's a hard marker, but a fair one. You'll be learning a lot from him.

Professor Isaak is pure gold. His lectures will leave you breathless! He knows so much, is very entertaining, and simply 10/10. I'd take any class from him in a heartbeat. You better do your reading though because you won't do well in the weekly quizzes, and don't be late or you will miss the quiz.

Glenn has an amazing and engaging way of teaching any of his courses (I was fortunate enough to have him for 3). By far the BEST prof I've ever had, but I do already have a strong inclination towards English Lit etc.

Easy to pass but quite difficult to get a decent mark. You could have an amazing paper but get a B- and have a really terrible paper but get a C+. If you're already very good at English you'll be glad to know he gives great lectures but if you're not he'll pass you but don't expect easy marks.

Hes a really good teacher, but like all teachers he has flaws, too-that is, hes full of ego. However, Its not that hard a class: just don't make grammatical errors (one of the major reasons you'll lose marks) and actually use your head. IMO, hes one of the most lenient markers at Langara as he appreciates unorthodox styles of writing. take notes!!!

Super great prof. It is not like other college level English classes where there is large amounts of class participation and you are expected to contribute to the discussion. His lectures are incredibly good and he could literally be a stand up comedian. As long as you put in effort you will get an A, if you are lazy good luck.

At first, it was hard to keep up with him. You really have to listen. I didn't talk to anyone in that class so showing up mattered. English isn't my strong suit and for a first semester student, his class wasn't all that bad! (Then again, what do I know? I'm new)

English is one of my weakest subjects but taking it with Glenn made me enjoy english. He marks mostly on quality rather than quantity so dont worry abt not finishing an in class. Write notes each class and be on top of the readings for the weekly quizzes. The terms he talks abt will be on the final p.s. i love how he colour coordinates his outfits

Easily THE best Prof I've ever had, and I've had many over the past few years. He is extremely knowledgeable, funny and helpful if you need anything at all. Everything from his off the cuff quoting of large literary passages he has memorized from the likes of Chaucer, Homer etc, right down to his manner of dress, he is an absolutely brilliant Prof.
