Non approachable and very vague on test material. Every test we had the average was around a 50%. Offered some extra credit but only bc if he didn't, everyone would have failed. Mandatory homework in ridiculous amounts. Made a B but only by staying up all night and reading my book. Wouldn't recommend him if you aren't good with Chemistry!
Professor Meades IS a hard teacher, but IT IS organic chem. The homework is extensive, but helps with keeping up with the material. He comes in 3 hours early to help students and will stay as late as you need him to. He knows his stuff, too ! I recommend this teacher
Very hard class in general but his tests were hard but very fair. He drops the lowest test grade and you even have a homework grade, but the homework takes for ever! He stays after class and in his office a lot for extra help, but seems a little unapproachable.
Hard class. Great professor. I learned so much. Makes his lectures very clear. Explains everything thoroughly and encourages students to go to office hours--which he often extends for student convince. Homework is long, however it really does help you understand the material. Tests are extremely difficult. You earn the grade you receive.
No unnecessary busy work and he is very straightforward about everything on his exams. He goes out of his way to make review sheets for exams that are exactly what will be on exam and he meets with ANY student that needs help whenever he can. Extremely approachable and willing to help. You can tell he is genuinely likes Biochemistry.
He's also a professor at Emory, and he's really great. He's good at relating what we're learning to things in the real world that we already know. He gives crystal clear explanations, takes time to make sure everyone is on the same page, and really coaches students through the material.
great guy
He is awesome and super helpful. He knows his material and keeps class interesting. I wish he taught more classes.
Great guy and super duper helpful but hard
Best Professor I've ever had. He is very hard but very helpful! You can tell that he really loves what he teaches
One of the best professors I have ever had. Take him if you get the chance! Stay on top of reading and ppts and never miss a class!
Dr. Meades is the best professor I have ever encountered. He understands what it means to be an educator in every sense of the word. He is knowledgeable, approachable, genuinely interested in the success of every student and will go out of his way to make sure everyone understands the material. Wonderful guy.
He was amazing. He knows biochem and it's basically his life. That said, he really wants us to know biochem (especially enzymes). He is super helpful and approachable. Most importantly, DO THE PRACTICE TEST. And understand why that answer works. He rewords those questions to give a different answer, but if you know why, you'll get it.
He is an amazing professor. Unfortunately I don't have him for lecture and I always attend his. Even though , he knows I'm not his student, he spends time explaining everything in detail. He is so passionate about what he's doing . This class is not easy but if you get a chance to take him for lecture or lab don't hesitate.
TESTS ARE VERY HARD! Do not expect to pass this class without some serious studying. You must keep up with the homework and attend lectures if you want to pass this class! With that being said, Dr. Meades is the best professor I've had at KSU. He dedicates a lot of time to helping us understand the material. Extremely approachable and intelligent.
Dr. Meades is great in the lecture class. He really knows his stuff. The only thing is that he tends to go quickly and you can miss things. He's very open to helping his students if you don't understand something. If you have the option, TAKE HIS LECTURE!!!
Dr. Meades is a great lecture teacher, but in lab he is lacking. Though he is willing to help you, he comes off as a bit unapproachable. We had 3 new labs that they were testing out and he was no help with trying to figure those out. He will help you with the content, but as far as what you're actually supposed to do, he doesn't help much.
Professor Meades knows his stuff, so ask for help and go to office hours. He's always willing to help. As for the class, it was hard. I recommend reading the chapters beforehand, do the practice tests, and stay after class for extra help.
He is an intelligent professor. He really knows what he is talking about. The class is so hard though. Its not him though, the material is just so difficult. So if taking this class I recommend this teacher but you're going to have to put in a lot of effort. I did not like that he never responded to my emails. But other than that he is ok.
He really knows what he is talking about! His tests are hard, but he will do everything in his power to get you ready for it. He will stay after class and meet in his office to help students. He spent hours with around 10 of us regularly studying and helping us! He is devoted!
He is amazing! The material is very hard itself so it requires a lot of studying. He really wants his students to succeed. He would stay however late he needed to to ensure everyone understood. Go to his office hours! I went all the time and it was very helpful! Make sure to do the practice tests. Best professor I've ever had.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had. I was terrified of organic, but he made me love it. I have never learned so much in one class, however I have never studied so much for one class. You have to spend constant hours studying, but he is there to help you every step of the way. Take advantage of that. Be consistent and you will get an A.
Dr. Meades is the best professor I've ever taken. The class itself is difficult, but he goes out of his way to help you learn the material. The tests are tricky. Read carefully, do the homework & practice. Very genuine and approachable guy, so go see him if you have trouble understanding the concepts. Would love to take him again.
liked his lectures but tests were so hard and so many trick questions!! his lab was awful though. i would say take for lecture but get someone else for lab because he is no help there. wont give you much direction on what he expects and youll end upp with a b in lecture and c in lab ;P
He is an awesome professor! Dr. Meades is very knowledgable on organic chem and will help you if you need it! He is very approachable and cares about your success! Organic chemistry NOT an easy course, but it is definitely possible to make an A! Take notes before class and just listen to the lecture! Had him for lab and lecture and aced both!
4 tests & a final. drops lowest test. sapling hw and sapling quizzes due b4 each test. he was super awesome, i encourage anyone who is going for nursing to take him. i got a 99 on 3 of tests and 100 on one, they are very similar to practice exams. meades will meet u sundays to study also!! hes the best take him
Very clear cut. He provides practice exams from previous semesters to prepare for tests. It's a lot of work (especially the sapling hw) but I really enjoyed his lectures and the subject overall. You will have to put in the time, but an A is doable. He is also VERY willing to help and holds tons of office hours.
lecture: 4 tests and a final, lowest grade replaced by final. tests are very hard but HUGE curves. extremely helpful (office hours open, holds reviews outside of class), and homework due before each test. gotta work hard but it's possible to get an A (I probably will). lab: extremely easy grader, difficult final. helpful sometimes but unclear.
Dr. Meades is one of the best professors I have ever encountered. I have never seen someone so dedicated to his craft. He truly loves teaching and it shows. He goes over and above to help you pass this class. Organic is not an easy subject but if you fail his class it will not be because he did not try to help you succeed.
Dr. Meades is, hands down, the best professor I have ever had. When I started the class, I was terrified. But he is there for you whenever you need him. So dedicated to his job. He loves it, it shows, and it is contagious! I have never loved a subject so much as I did during his class. He loves to make you think, but that's a good thing! Recommend!
Like everyone else on here, I was TERRIFIED of Organic Chemistry. Could not have made the grade I made with another professor. Exams were very difficult but he adds points back which helps out a ton. If you're struggling GO TO HIS OFFICE, he will help you. You won't succeed on your own. Making an A is possible if you put forth the effort.
HOLY COW. Hard class, but amazing professor. He is willing to help anyone and everyone. I probably spent more time in his office than I did in his class. I went 3-4 times a week for extra help and it paid off. I am a 4.0 student and worked my butt of for an A, but if you use him as the resource he is, you can get a good grade! Just try!
Dr. Meades is an amazing professor and very clear in his lectures. He makes it very easy to follow along. Four tests. Study his practice test. Will help you if you ask for it. Great guy. Get to know him. Biochem isn't easy but his lectures are really good.
OH MY GOSH LOVE HIM. By far, the BEST professor I have had in college. This was my second time taking O-chem, and if it wasn't for him I would have failed again. He is such a great teacher, and you can tell he loves it. Do not take another professor for this class. He is there for you after class as long as you want to stay. Always there for you:)
He's very good at explaining concepts, and his stories are entertaining. Took him for Biochemistry over the summer and I was worried how hard the class was going to be. The material was obviously in-depth but he has a way of breaking down hard concepts so everyone could understand it. Definitely recommend to others, and would definitely take again!
He is a great teacher. Hes very helpful & available, but this class is so hard! I really wish I had taken it later in my college life. I recommend taking genetics and other classes first. The 1st test is basically a review of genetics. The 2nd test is harder and the 3rd test is a butt load of info. Do practice tests and go in for help to do well!
This is the second time I have him. He is a great professor, very helpful. If you want to get an A you have to work hard and do the practice test as well as go to his study session. This class is not easy, but he is always there to help.
I took Meades over the summer for Biochemistry, probably one of the hardest courses I have ever taken but honestly without him I would have failed. One of the best teachers I have ever taken. He is always willing to help and will put his students before himself. If you need help ask!!! Take his practice exams and go to class! And you will do great!
Dr. Meades goes at a quick pace, but is always willing to answer questions. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand and provides plenty of supplemental material online. He provides many methods for help from him outside of class, and is engaging. I had a 4.0 before his class, but failed because you must work very hard for an A.
Meades is the most caring professor I have ever taken. Organic bio chem is an extremely hard class but if you put in the effort so will Dr. Meades. He goes above and beyond any professor I have ever had.
I was so excited to take him after hearing so many good things. He is very condescending and unapproachable as well as vague.
He held study sessions every Sunday on campus so we could as him any questions that we had. He provided previous tests that were similar to the ones during the semester. The tests had a lot of trick questions that can be confusing, but as long as you understand the material you should be okay.
Leaving this class on day 1 had me freaking out. This the toughest class at KSU I have ever taken, but at the same time, I kinda of enjoyed it? Dr. Meades is an awesome guy and very knowledgeable about biochem. His exams are really tricky. Like he will say, don't study his old exams, Understand how else they can be ask! I am so relieved it is over!
Great professor! Learned a lot! This is not a class that you can slack in. Go to all classes. Take notes. Record lectures. Don't wait until the last minute to study. This class requires more than memorization.
Meades is knowledgeable but sometimes I felt like he knew too much. He would tell us so many facts in class and half the time not test us on them. It was so much information each class. The tests were full of trick questions so you have to know everything and know it well. 3 exams, a final, and attendance. I studied HARD and still will be retaking.
If you work, the man is here M-R AND Sun. There's absolutely no reason for you to not see him after hours at least ONCE a week. Sun is the longest he'll stay (basically the whole day) & it's SUPER helpful. An A IS possible. No text RQ'd. Don't slack & study last min. You'll forget tiny, easy details. Watch out for his tricky wording.
Dr. Meades is the most warmhearted person you will ever meet. He is intelligent beyond words, but PASSING THIS MAN's CLASS FEELS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE! Don't get me wrong, there are several A's in his class so it's doable, just not me. Honestly he's too intelligent to be teaching a intro chem class. He'll explain things and you still won't get it.
Meades forgets this is an into course, and it is designed to introduce nursing students to organic chemistry. This is not a biochemistry level course, yet we were tested on material from his biochemistry classes. I highly suggest you taking a different professor if you struggle with Chem.
All around excellent professor, would recommend. Dr. Meades is a great teacher but you have to work for your grade. This class is twice as hard as 1151 and you can't learn it all the day before the test. 1152 is an intro class to organic AND BIOCHEM which are notoriously hard subjects. Read the chapters and study his powerpoint and you'll do great.
Meades is a really great & smart man. I just dont think he should be teaching a 1000 lvl class if he believes its too easy. This is an intro course & hes treating it like an upper lvl course. The other class stopped learning at Citric Acid Cycle & had an entire week to study for the finals. Both classes should be studying the same thing.
Meades is an amazing professor and he truly cares about his students, he will stay after and answer questions for as long as you need and comes every sunday to help. While he is a great professor his tests are very difficult and wording can be very confusing. This is a very hard class, but he gives you the tools to be successful if you use them.
Dr. Meades is by far the smartest person I have ever met. Going to lecture is extremely important; you can't just read over the slides and understand everything. He's extremely available and will stay with you after class (and on Sundays) to help you with whatever you need. If you put the effort in, you should do well. You have to work for an A.
Previous review hit the nail on the head. He's AMAZING when it comes to academic advising and giving advice about careers and such, but he is an AWFUL instructor. He takes something that's already hard and makes it something that only the brightest 4.0 students can understand. Go to him for career advice, but do NOT take a class with him!
This was one of the hardest classes I have taken at KSU. Class comprises of 4 tests and a final. If you want to make an A, I recommend you do his practice tests, go to SI Sessions, and GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS for help! He is willing to help & curves his tests by throwing out some test questions and replaces your lowest test grade with your final.
Should you take Meades for OCHEM? No. I think Im smart enough & might be able to handle him. THINK? MIGHT? No. You have to BE smart. Youre exaggerating. No. Is he a cool dude? Yes. Is he helpful? Yes. So I should take him since hes cool & helpful. Hes accessible & helpful to all students. Doesnt mean you should take him.
As a person who failed, retook, and passed Meades class, I swear its one of the hardest things Ive ever done. With hours of studying, hundreds of practice problems for each exam, recording lectures, and flashcards I got a B. You will, you MUST learn. His tests are riddled with trick questions so you must be diligent. Passable? Yes. Easy? Never.
If he's the only person teaching biochem, maybe take him. If you can wait a semester/there's another option, avoid him. It's not that he's a bad guy, he's unnecessarily difficult. He's the type who intentionally puts trick questions rather than just seeing if you know the material like a normal person would. Again, nice guy, but way too difficult.
Very tough, but very supportive and willing to help. He has office hours for SIX hours on Sunday and Tuesday. If that doesn't speak about him wanting his students to succeed, I don't know that does. He does not hand out letter grades, you need to work for it, but he's there every step of the way. Much better than Cortes or any biochem professor.
Meades is an excellent professor. He is very knowledgeable & is willing to help his students do well in this course. There are 3 exams and final; the final replaces the lowest test grade. This class is not easy, you have to put in the work to receive an A in the class. Attend lectures, office hours, & study at least 3 hours for the course a week.
This class was tough, but with lots of studying and effort, this class is possible. Very very tricky exams!!! Practice all of the exams and study with groups of students. Studying with more people from your class will help enforce the material more. Also, go to his help sessions. Dr. Meades is so knowledgable and helpful.
Perfect definition of him is tough but fair. Posts every exam he's ever given (even from 1 semester ago) for you to study from, and they all are identical, so your exam will be identical. BUT, he changes wording. STUDY THE OLD EXAMS and think about how else those questions could be asked. Do that, you pass.
Nothing like the horror stories I heard. Super caring dude who notices when you ask for help/come to office hours a lot. Exams are hard, but use his old exams that he posts to see what will be asked. Very straightforward class. I recommend recording lectures. Getting an A is tough, but if you work at it, you can get a B or C. Textbook not needed.
Great choice for chem 3500, but AVOID for 1152. He's very knowledgeable which is good for upperclassmen chem majors (3500), but totally useless and "too much" for freshmen nursing majors (1152). I took him for 1152 and it was much harder than it needed to be, but my chem major friends who took him LOVED him and the detail he went into.
LOVED him. Yes, he does trick questions on his exams, but he also posts ALL his old exams, and they all are similar (your exam will be similar too). Literally no way you can fail given the amount of resources and help he gives, for real. You may not get an A, but you can DEFINITELY pull a B or C with him. Tons of office hours and overall awesome.
Great professor, even greater as a person. Biochem itself is hard, so it's not like he's making easy stuff hard. He's taking hard stuff and making you think about how it all works instead of just pure memorization. Trick ?'s on exams, but if you know your stuff you're fine. TONS of office hours and just overall, very caring. 10/10
This class is a 4 day a week class (M,W,F, AND SUNDAY). Going to study the practice exams are required to make an A in the course. Great and knowledgeable professor. Def. would take again.
Don't get me wrong, the material is hard. But it is not because Dr. Meades is a bad teacher, it is just a tough class. He does everything he can to help you and really cares about his students. Also he is more than willing to sit and work with you for as long as you need if you're struggling. Wish more professors were like him! Definitely take him.
This class was the hardest class I have ever taken, but that doesn't mean you can't get an A. Dr. Meades is great at answering questions and is always available for office hours, but his test questions are tricky. I studied 30 plus hours for every exam and it still wasn't enough. Go to Sunday sessions. Take this class with him because he will help.
It's a hard class and you have to work for a good grade. He makes himself very available with a lot of office hours (including Sundays!). Go to his office hours and do practice problems. He's very patient and will work with you until you get it. Also, do his old test. Don't memorize them because he changes the questions, but use them to practice.
This class was probably one of the hardest classes I've taken so far, but I am SO glad I had Professor Meades. He truly is a good teacher and knows what he's talking about. I personally never had to go to Sunday sessions, but I studied a lot at home especially from his old tests. If you have to take this class, do yourself a favor and take him.
If you're a biochem major then buckle up. The exams given in this class make both quant and p chem look like a joke. If you dont already understand the material by the time it is covered in lecture, you're already behind. If you're not already in the top 20% of your class, this will be the hardest course of your college career. Good luck peeps.
Exams are incredibly difficult. He likes to put trick questions on them, and with it being an online class due to Covid, he put 7 answer choices on the exams. DO the practice exams and ask him questions early on or he might now round up your grade at the end of the semester.
Dr. Meades is incredibly smart and wants you to succeed. Will give back every ounce of effort you put in, and will do his best to make topics clear. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS. He has very challenging questions that the practice exams help understand the logic on how to answer them. He wants application, not memorization. Very difficult, very rewarding.
PLEASE!! If you can take any other prof DO IT! I took him for virology and the first exam was 31% average grading across both of the sections he was teaching... you DONT have enough time to answer all the questions and each one is 7 possible answers multiple choice. Do yourself a favor and take someone else I promise you its better. Lookin out 4 u
The ONLY class I recommend him for is CHEM 3500. DO NOT take him for virology, CHEM 1152, the whole year biochem sequence etc. ONLY take him for the 1 semester biochem class. For that class, he is one of the best and really puts in extra effort to make sure you do well. 8+ office hours during the week, and practice tests mirror the real ones.
Don't even THINK about taking him for virology! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! The most uncompassionate professor I've ever encountered since the pandemic began! Unwilling to work with students to make assessments during exams more reasonable. Implicitly blames student's performance in the class on their unintelligence when he doesn't explain concepts well!
Online bc of pandemic. Does not draw anything during lectures. He just talks over his powerpoints. No curves even though the class is struggling. Difficult tests but easy lectures to understand.
As an online class, this was tough unless you are a death by power point learner. His tests are hard, with tricky wording. You will be lucky to get a 2 pt curve even when over half the class fails. Expects students to teach each other on Discord. He does not demonstrate anything. Lectures are all uploaded to YouTube. He is a GPA destroyer.
What others are saying is true, he is not an easy teacher. You can devote hours to studying, rewatch his videos, participate on Discord, you will think you understand the nomenclature and still fail his tests. He doesnt seem to care either, that you are forced to take his class online, its a pandemic, etc, he comes off very uncaring and unhelpful
I decided to take Meades virtually ... Do NOT take him if you think that you will have him virtually. I am normally a straight-A student, and as of right now, I have the final left, and I am failing his class. He only has 4 grades & no extra credit. I emailed him because if I fail I will get my nursing offer revoked for spring, he didn't care.
Content of lectures was interesting and well presented. Exams had ZERO relationship to that content. He seemed proud the whole class avg on tests was low. Dude, that means you failed to teach. Uses Discord, which is a hot mess. Can be condescending and rude if you ask questions. Take this class somewhere else! I want my money back.
I took Dr. Meades class after having to drop from Baruah last spring. So glad I did! However, Im thankful for having this class online, because in person I couldnt do it. No lockdown browser! The final replaces your lowest test grade. His tests compare well to his old exams. Always available outside class. Take him!!!
Dr. Meades is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to the course material in addition to other random topics. If you have difficulty understanding the material, he is very willing and able to explain it to you better. So asking questions is key. Do ALL his practice tests as those are the actual exams from previous classes. Put in the work A
Dr. Meades is really cool. Super accessible to ask questions about the class and pre-med stuff, uses lots of analogies and clinical examples, gives us his old tests to practice. However, his tests are difficult and he doesn't really curve, and that's all your grade is based on. They were open-book this semester but I don't know about in-person.
The course material is tough, no matter which professor you choose. Dr. Meades isn't going to spoon feed you the information, so you're going to have to ask a lot of questions if you don't understand. Above all, study the practice tests back and forth. If you understand them 100%, you're going to be fine for the exams.
Took him online for 1152, and all I can say is you have to understand the material. I recommend printing out the powerpoint and taking extra notes on them during the lectures. He also posts practice tests which are super helpful, and if you don't understand something he will most likely help you.
Dr. Meades is a great professor. His lectures are well organized & easy to follow. I.e., he introduces the orgo functional groups in order based on priority (lowest-highest) and reactivity. How to ace his exams: outline the topics of his old exams. Understand the keywords in his q's, & see all the diff. q's he can ask based on the same topics
Organic chem itself is such a tough class, but Dr. Meades does an amazing job of explaining things and providing many examples for the class to understand. Releases his old exams to practice and to know what to expect. 3 tests + final, but replaces final with lowest test grade
He has a YouTube channel and expected us to watch each recording before class. Since he wouldnt really go over material in depth in class, it meant we had to teach ourselves a lot from the videos which took about 3 hours each to fully understand :/ Also only 4 tests for the entire grade which makes it very hard to make an A, but it is possible.
He doesn't care if his students do well in his class. Purposely tries to trick you on all of the tests. Grades only come from exams. Didn't actually teach in the lecture times he made us watch old YouTube videos and teach ourselves. The 1/5 is only because he's educated and well-spoken. Avoid if you can.
Didn't make difficult information easier to understand. Posts all his old exams but said the answers may not be correct because it's from other students. Didn't use class time for lectures, had us watch his old YouTube videos and used LOTS of analogies. Liked to use discord more than D2L. Only 5 grades in total, none of were ever posted to D2L
Don't listen to these other reviews saying Dr. Meades doesn't care. This class although harder than organic imo, prepared the hell out of me for the MCAT. Once you take this class, any other class is a complete joke. Yes the grades only consist of exams but if you ask for help early on and participate, you'll get the grade you need.
Dr. Meades is a solid choice for lab. The weekly quizzes are hard but they prepare you for the final. You have to give presentations with a group, so pick a good paper. He doesn't put any grades in D2L, & he grades more on how you improve than by a rubric, so it's impossible to do bad. He is a fun lab instructor with great knowledge about sciences.
Dr. Meades is one of the best professors I've had so far. DEFINITELY stay after class to get any questions answered. Even if you don't have questions stay to hear the questions other people have. Provides LOTS of practice problems and is willing to help ALL students understand. Very calm and easy-going. No questions are dumb questions in his class!
Dr. Meades is a great professor. I personally found the material interesting but difficult. He allows notes on ALL exams even the final, but is only useful if you need them for small things as time is limited with many questions. I honestly only passed because of his practice exams & the SI sessions. NO homework or quizzes. Just 4 exams & a final.
Im a mostly A some Bs student.I actually studied and attended every lecture. But still, This class is ridiculously difficult. Wouldnt recommend. His test are all trick questions. Literally the hardest class Ive ever taken. Dont do it, this is ur sign to take Meredith Baker or literally anyone else.
DONT TAKE HIM. Your mental health will never be the same after him! He is actually the absolute worst professor at KSU. His test are super hard and tricky for no reason. I studied, attended lecture , and did practice exams but never made A. Made mostly Cs and Bs. dont do it take someone else.
Meade's lectures were thorough and engaging. No homework, grades out of 4 exams + 1 final; all are open note. He has additional recorded lectures online for each lesson + practice tests for all exams (take them to succeed). Replaces lowest exam with final exam score. One of the hardest classes at KSU. It takes work but an A is possible (see above)
Dr. Meades is by far the most difficult professor I've had at KSU, but I learned A LOT. His exams are tough, but if you do the old exams and rewatch the lectures on his youtube, it'll help tremendously. He is approachable and will help if you ask him, so take advantage of office hours and time after class!
Great prof! Very knowledgeable. However, this is the hardest class I have ever taken and I had to spend approx. 25 hrs PER WEEK to study/earn my grade (and more hours closer to test time). Tests are VERY difficult, and his intent is to trick you. You have to KNOW the material like the back of your hand to get a good grade. TAKE ALL PRACTICE EXAMS!!
Tests are hard and he does to try to trick you to see if you are understanding the material. All exams are open note yet use time and resources wisely. Really approachable in office hours and will gladly explain concepts over. Do not come to class and you will not be successful. If you work hard and study well it is possible to make a good grade.
Avoid taking him at all cost. Only graded by 3 exams and a final . This Proffessor does not post grades online .
While Biochem is a tough class, Dr.Meades makes it very doable. His lectures are good, with all of them being on Youtube as well. He grades by only 3 tests and a final, with each test being pretty difficult. However, each test is completely open notes and he has lots of office hours where he is willing to help. Keeping up with the work is key.
Avoid taking him at all costs!!!! Only graded by exams which are tough.
Best professor I've ever had. He's very well versed on all of the topics since he has so much experience in the medical field. Extremely helpful in office hours. Will gladly help and answer questions. Attendance isn't mandatory (all the lecture videos are posted) BUT his lectures are helpful and advised. Explains things to where you understand.
Exams were hard, detailed, tries to trick you, but they were open note. Not an easy A, but definitely was a interesting class. If you study the lecture slides and take notes it should be any easy B or C.
Dr. Meades is a wonderful person, but his lab is an absolute nightmare. His directions regarding labs and assignments are unclear and confusing. I can genuinely say I have never participated in a lab that is this disorganized up until now. I highly suggest looking for a different lab professor if you can!!
This was the second time I had to take Biochem at KSU, and with Meades I had a much better time learning their material. Graded off 5 tests and a final that can replace the lowest test grade. All tests are open note which is helpful, so you don't have to remember all the small details of biochem. He is very kind and passionate about biochem.
Dr. Meades explains Biochem in a way that sticks with you. He is incredibly intelligent. Exams are open note and he provides plenty of practice material. Take him if you want to actually learn Biochem!
The fact that he grades us by only five difficult exams and a final exam shows how much he loves handing out Fs. He does not even put the grades into D2L, making us clueless about our progress. His exam questions do not look like something taught in class at times. If you want mental health counseling, this guy is the perfect professor to take.
I genuinely thought I was going to get a C, then I was surprised when I got an A. For every test, make sure you compile EVERY SINGLE PRACTICE TEST ON D2L into a single word doc and command F every single question on the tests (they're open note), and 90% of the questions will be on past tests. if you do this, you will probably get a B or A.
Hard class but not impossible. This course is more so about being on top of the material than anything else. Study early! Only grades are 5 exams + final. All exams are open note. Does not post grades online but is always available to talk. Go to lecture and watch his online videos if you want a good grade! If you plan to take the MCAT take him!
Dr. Meades' lab is EASILY the most disorganized and confusing lab I've ever taken. He doesn't post grades online (you have to go to office hours lol), and you won't find any protocols for experiments on D2L like you usually would. I feel like I haven't learned anything tbh, I would highly recommend taking someone else if you can. Good luck!
Professor Meades is evil personified. I took the summer lecture and lab, and it was the worst decision ever. He gives lectures that make sense and are pretty straight forward, but his exams questions DOES NOT REFLECT HIS LECTURES AT ALL. His lab is even worse. Anyone that says anything different is LYING. Save your gpa and sanity. DON'T TAKE HIM.
This course was awful to take over the summer. We are given a 16 week workload in an 8 week class. This professor did not try to ease up on any exam questions or lighten notes. The notes given barely helped with exams and exams are the only graded material. He puts in grades last minute and does not give feedback. Worst class I have ever taken.
