somewhat opinionated
funny guy; loves discussion; i actually read the entire When we are free
easy.
VERY INTERESTING AND DIFFERENT THAN MOST CLASSES
Always goes off on other things, very close minded, not a good teacher
Great philosophical experience Too book focused though.

Great teacher, highly recommend, very nice, lives and breathes what he teaches.
You'll actually have to think to pass one of his courses. D'oh, darn brain!
Not an easy A, but you will learn a lot. Very Smart Man!
Very confusing and closed-minded. Arrogant. Ill never take him again.
talk to him he will like that you have an opinion

Won't have it any other way, if you don't pay attenion you fail. If you listen and get into it everything comes together
A lot of wordy text, but that is the point of the class. Great teacher if you want to really learn something and he is fair to all students, the ones who want to learn and the ones who dont
POINTLESS! Yup thats all I have to say about that!
Best Professor on Campus and his award showed it. The knoweldge he has of philosophy is outstanding. Not an easy grader by any means, but fair. For those who write bad comments are the ones who rarely go to class or participate.
The book we read is kinda hard, but he explains it a lot. He's really helpful and actually cares about his students. He's a great teacher, it's the subject that sucks!
Smart man, but don't ever take an online class with him. As the entire class was failing the only help he offered was to "hang in there". It took him two-three emails to get him to respond to questions. I'm sure he's better in class.
I really didn't like this class. I feel I didn't learn a whole lot. Also He is always late for class and he makes you show up when he isn't even going to be there. HE DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP FOR OUR EXAM!
Great teacher, great class. Northwood needs more classes that require you to think for yourself and not be spoon fed answers, Moots made ethics fun and interesting while not giving you a solid right/wrong answer for everything.
Fair to all students. Philosophy makes you think, and so will he. subject isnt intersting but he is passionate about it. his knowledge amazes me. great guy and has funny stories. likes it when you talk/express opinion. tests are hard, but its college suck it up.

Very poor internet class, I would not recommend it to anyone. He requires more out of an internet class than I have ever experienced. Not necessarily a bad teacher, just wants you to make PHL 401 your new point of view, if you disagree with the context of the course, don't plan on getting a decent grade.
He actually wants us to learn rather than go through the motions. This is COLLEGE, so that's what we signed up for. Bring it!
One of the worst experiences of my life, just a terrrible class. Very pushy teacher.
I'm actually learning something from someone who does this for a living and feels that it is important for us to know it. I'm not just passing time on my way to a degree.
Gave us clear principles and helped us see the challenge in applying them. Answered any questions we had. A good experience!
Doesn't write much on the board or use slides, but is funny and enthusiastic. Like the Simpsons comments. Nice not to use boring textbooks and think with a real book instead.
This teacher was hard but thats what college is all about. I would difinitely take this teacher again, he was very fair and nice. I just wish he would teach more classes!!!;o)
funny; makes you think, clarify what you mean; no powerpoint slides - hooray!
Some say Mr. Moots is pushy or you will get a bad grade if you disagree with him. These comments are totally wrong. These people are more likely upset because their work ethic isn't up to college standards. Moots is the smartest man you will meet, so take his class and bring your "A" game.
Mr. Moots is a wonderful and very interesting teacher. He is very fair with his grading, and i would take his class again in a heart beat. He is one of the BEST teachers at Northwood, and everyone should experience one of his classes. Best of luck to him!
Excellent class. Be prepared for a challenge, but look forward to being able to be proud of what you learned in the class.
Extremely interesting class! Breaks up the weekend class with movies (really good) and interesting discussions. A lot of prep work but well worth it!
He seems to be a bitter man who doesn't like being a teacher. Also, his tests are UNFAIR. Nothing is ever on the tests that you read or he talks about in class. He makes this class seem like a waste of your time. He also insaulted business people, and he's at a business school! C'mon now! AVOID HIM!
i was scared of this class but it wasnt bad. he was funny sometimes. tests were hard
I had him for two courses during my NU career & wish I would have never had him. He is very opinionated & isn't very open minded to others point of view. Many of his theories (opinions) are quite far fetched... "If god is a vending machine would it please him to purchase many things from it..." I wish NU would've sent him packing years ago!
He wants us to think, but that means that we aren't told what's on the test. If you want to think, take him. If you want to know everything on the test, then don't.
If you're reading this, chances are you care about your school work. And if you care about your school work, you should take this class. I learned more in this class than any other I've taken at NU. It challenged the way I thought and acted. Be prepared to think read and write. It's a challenge, but you'll be amazed how much you learn.
He makes the class extremely hard, what is so hard about ethics you would think, but its reading Aristotle and Plato and many other people from way back when and you can't understand what they are saying in the book.
He hates teaching here or at least comes across that way, seems ironic since his course is about not being complacent and being unhappy where you are. Take the mini session with Burns.
What? If this kind of class is the result of his being unhappy, ALL my professors should be unhappy. Thanks for making me think and soul-search, Moots!
Boo this man
Dr. Moots was always willing to help me learn more. This class made me think alot. It wasn't that hard if you do the work. He is a good man.
Moots is an excellent Professor and is a good man with a good heart. Yes, he is tough, but tough with reason. He does things for reason which all comes together at the end- he has a wonderful lecture every class which leaves me feeling much more intelligent and knowledgeable on my way out of class. I would take him again for credits and for knowled
Very hard teacher, assigns a boat load of reading to have completed before each class and tests are just as difficult as his style of teaching. He let our class retake a section of his test which with a class of seniors didn't help them at all. Everyone in his class is barely passing or not at all and he doesn't care. Avoid if you can!
horriable, he does not care about his students, he talks in circles, does not relate to anything and misses alot of class then test you on stuff gone over months ago
Bravo, Moots.
Glen Moots is by far the worst experience I have had at Northwood. I took him online for PHL 301 and did alot of reading. He had a very negative tone is in his responses when I would email him. One assignment we had to answer questions and I even quoted the authors of the book. He stated, I am not teaching you to be a court room stenographer.
I also had him for PHL301 online and he was terrible. It was a 6 week class and we didn't receive any feedback from him until the 3rd week, which of course by that point it was too late. He didn't seem to put in any effort to teaching the online class. Very disappointed with him.
If your looking for an "easy A" you might want to consider another professor. Many of the students at Northwood lack reading comprehension and vocabulary expected from this professor. You are getting an Ivy League professor here folk; its very unfortunate that most of the students at Northwood can hardly read, write, or comprehend proper english.
The students who complain about Mr. Moots do not value the hard work it takes to get a degree. It is tough teachers like him who add value to getting education at Northwood. It is hard work! However, getting a degree should be hard work. I also had him for Philosophy ("The Northwood Idea") and I came out of that class more mature and well rounded.
Mr. Moots demands a lot of his students, but we are here to EARN degrees. Even though the class is tough you learn to appreciate it. Moots also gives it a humorous spin, which adds to in class discussions. I definitely recommend Mr. Moots for any philosophy class. If you are afraid to be challenged perhaps Northwood is not the right school for you.
Took Mr. Moots for Ethics. It was a difficult class, especially with 20 credit hours. Reading is essential, but Mr. Moots is really a great teacher. He is enthusiastic about the subject, and if class discussion is started, you will enjoy the class very much. I highly recommend Mr. Moots if you are up for a challenge and want to learn something.
I've sometimes felt like I was buying my degree here. A lot students turn in substandard work and get away with it. Moots made me work, and didn't put up with a lot of the stuff I see from others. Other students may not like him, but I appreciated the challenge and his sticking to policies.
I have read through some of the comments posted. I do agree that Moots does expect a lot from you and since we are here to learn, it is expected. However, I had him online and while he expected us to be online all the time, he was unavailable many times for days at a time. We are expected to turn work in on time, but he was weeks behind on grading.
Best professor I had at Northwood.
Amazing class. Changed my life. Thanks!
Hardest I ever worked at NU but most I learned and improved my writing too. Forced me to think about myself. Surprisingly open-minded if you can defend your own thinking.
Once you realize that he's just trying to get you to work harder, you find he's very helpful and generous.
Moots is the best!
Loved having Moots as a professor!
This was my favorite class at Northwood. He is truly an amazing professor who cares about his students and wants them to think for themselves. He was always willing to meet to discuss the writing assignments. Northwood need to hire more profs like this.
His class is the whole package. It's a real college class. We actually learn important things from important authors, and I can converse intelligently with friends at other schools rather than just talking about the same thing (business). I'm interested in reading other books. (Before, I didn't read much.) And I'm a better person than before.
Moots is the best. His class isn't hard, but it is a slight challenge. This challenge does lead to a personal growth, that every student at Northwood should experience. Lots of reading, but the content includes information that you will want to retain.
Excellent class. Sparked thoughts and good ideas.
I took his ethics through movies class and enjoyed it. No tests, just an essay at midpoint and an essay for the final. Only gives feedback if you visit his office. Nice guys, stimulates discussion well.
Be prepared to write your way through papers in this class. He tells you exactly what he wants but he is a tough grader. He will let you turn it in early for feedback before it's due. I would recommend doing that!
200 characters isn't enough. The ideas cultivated in his course changed my life in a very big way. Is your education really about finding who's easiest? Read the material, internalize it--and come ready to convince others. His courses are the one's you'll remember when you're 30 and no one cares where you went to school or what your major was.
if you dont read you will fail - but probably one of the best classes i had at NU.
Very hard class but you'll love the instructor.
with the right attitude you can take much from this professor
Great course for thoughtful students. Moots is brilliant.
even if you don't enjoy the subject he teaches you'be impressed by the intellect of the instructor
Moots is very helpful, He is a hard grader but gives great feedback. You should definitely take him before you graduate.
I recommend highly his courses, one of the best teachers I've had at Northwood University
He is very nice and will help you whenever you need it. I enjoyed the class and would take more courses with him.
He makes his lectures very interesting. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, if you have the chance to take him, do it!
not the easiest course but definitely one of the most enlightening experiences at Northwood
Moots is an exceptional professor, very effective and caring. Excellent class, quite challenging but really enjoyable.
very intelligent instructor but don't expect it to be easy, at least not at first
He seems tough only because he pushes you to become a better student. Take his advice and you won't regret it.
one of my best experiences here, you'll love this class, ask questions and you can get great feedback and advice
fantastic experience, so glad I took Moots this year
Challenging but one of my best experiences this year at Northwood.
Really wants you to improve and learn. Very helpful. Interesting class!
Arguably the most intelligent man at Northwood. Definitely a challenging class but well worth it. Whatever you do, DO NOT MISS A CLASS.
One of the best classes I've taken at Northwood. I would recommend his Ethics class in a heartbeat. It was challenging but so worth it! Moots is one of the most intelligent professors I have met and you will learn in his class, but you have to be willing to do the work and attend class. He gives great advice and feedback!
He doesn't just teach content - he instills a critical/analytical framework to be a good person. Professor Moots cares about the "full you" which is crazy considering the class size. He is arguable one of the most talented professors that NU has in their roster.
He is overly critical about word count (going even a single word over will either reduce your grade by a whole level or result in a zero on your paper. His quizzes are intentionally complicated instead of simplified for understanding. Grades are not submitted in a timely manner. Expect to work hard for a C or B at best.
Topics discussed are very interesting, as are movies associated with what's talked about in class. Not timely with grading by any means and is very specific with requirements like word count. Tests are intensely specific which felt like there were things we didn't even discuss. Seems set up for students to struggle.
Pretty hard relative to other classes at Northwood, and labor intensive but you also learn a lot. I thougt I'd have more classes like this in college. Cares about his students but can seem rude if your used to people just putting good grades on whatever you turn in.
One of the most caring professors you'll have. If you came to college to learn, you're set.
Do anything you can to steer clear of this wacko. Christian-centric and only his opinion matters. Will give you zeros without explanation or feedback. He is very pompous.
Absurd. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. He wonders why people don't take his class and instead, take it elsewhere. Why of all classes would I expect for an ETHICS class to lower my GPA? Spent money on books we barely used, wasted time on writing multiple papers just to receive a C at best. Save yourself the time and money. What a joke.
I finally graduated from this nursery where too many students think they should get an A if they can write their name. Moots gave us a real college class and he cares about us as people. Do your work and show up and follow directions, people.
I swear this man went out of his way to try to fail me. He sent me on wild goose chases to show proof from my coaches that my absences were excused for traveling. Even though he received emails ahead of time, I still had to go back and show him AGAIN. Save yourself the headaches and take it elsewhere. Jeez.
Moots wants you to have a real college experience and not treat you like a child. I felt like I was in college rather than Jr. High, which was a nice change.
Professor Moots expects you to WORK. Not only does he expect that you work, but he expects that you SPEAK. If you are shy and don't enjoy talking or reading, don't take his class. He wants you to do well, but he will not take it easy on you. You will learn a lot, but if you want a good grade, you have to earn it. Get the books, you will use them.
I have to say I took two of his classes in one semester. Don't do that. A few things, though, are don't miss the readings and don't miss his class. I learned a lot of things in his class, and overall, it was an enjoyable experience compared to what other Northwood professors did. The papers are the heavy portion of the class.
I got excellent feedback on my papers. He makes the content interesting. I had to work a lot harder, but it was a good challenge. He does want you to succeed, but you have to take the first step if you want help.
The class is called ethics, but don't expect to learn about or do too much work on ethical dilemmas. The class was nothing but Moots yapping about some old greek guys for 16 weeks. For some reason there is homework due before every class on the parts that will be covered in that class, which is a weird setup if you ask me. I'm not a fan.
Best course I had in college, a real college class at Northwood. I felt like I grew and learned as a person. The readings are the springboard to make you think about life, not just working for the man.
He is a tough professor but this dude cares about you if you put in the work. Take him if you want to genuinely learn and get better in your life
The worst always feels like he's speaking down on you and a super harsh grader nothing he says is worded directly because it all has to sound extra intellectual, save your money
Moots is like a college class in the middle of a high school
