I took Music 1A with Mr. Pearson. His class was a lot of fun! We did a lot of singing and he played the piano a lot so that we could differentiate between major and minor chords. For those of you interested in music or are looking for a class to fill in your humanities requirement, take this class!

He expects too much from an Music Introduction Course. The exercises are pretty easy but the ear training is absolutely difficult. For in-class practice, he gave us SOME relatively EASY ear training. For exams, he gave us a WHOLE bunch of puzzling dictations. I believe there are other better instructors.

This class is great for beginners. He's really clear about what he expects and goes over EVERYTHING! It got kind of confusing at some points when he over-explained but it was for the students' benefits. Definitely not a class for intermediate students unless you want to be bored to death or review your musical knowledge.

Good teacher, take good notes and you will do well on the tests (open notes). He gets distracted and upset by stupid things like students showing up late and makes it feel like HS sometimes. He has a strict sign-in sheet that he passes out and collects at a set time. You have to show up to take notes to pass the test, signin not needed.

He's the most arrogant, sarcastic person i ever met. He does'nt realize that he teaches intro and advanced classes. I recommend that you take it at Laney college.

Glen Pearson is the most arrogant, sarcastic person that i have ever encountered. He is the WORST MUSIC TEACHER that you can take. He isnt very helpful when it comes down to going to his tutoring sessions because he expects you to know everything about music eventhough its just an intro class. Take Lehmann at Laney you'll be better off. Trust Me...

he's nice at first, but then it becomes very clear that he doesn't want to be where he is in the middle of the semester, and he takes it out on the students. He'll grill the class with questions that are buried in the text book and expects everyone to know it. He's end of the class assignments will also have you stressing, not recommended at all.

Boring.. Good piano player though. How music just comes to him.. Try racking up "george of the jungle" on the top of your head. Other than that, he taught straight out of the book. And he treats us like high schoolers. You won't get anything out of the useless information, but if you got a good memory and can sleep with your eyes open, you'll pass.

Mr. Pearson is an awesome teacher with a cool style and a love for music. I took his Music History class & had a great time going to concerts & writing reviews. Pearson presents music theory in a way that makes it harder than it should be. He spends too much time esoteric details rather than getting to the essentials. I took him for a late start class, so it was a little more intense but still very doable. He comes across as kind of rude, but he does put effort into helping you if you reach out to him. In the 8 weeks, it was only some readings, videos, and discussion post per week, a final exam, and a paper.

Will need to spend money for the website he provided. Most of learning material included in the website and it will be hard to pass if you don't buy it. Lots of discussions and participation matters. Most quizzes/tests are multiple choice and based of discussions and readings.

I really didn't like Mr. Pearson very much. The class was easy but incredibly boring and took almost no participation from us. Perhaps he's better in person but of the few interactions I had with him he seemed unavailable and very demanding of a specific project (the performance paper). If you're looking for an easy class, try him I guess.

I took intersession so it was asynchronous and he did not do any teaching - it was all use taking notes and quizzes from a PAID site ($85). The entirety of the class was notetaking with very few musical examples, which made it very hard to prepare for the quizzes in which you had to recognize beats, rhythms, etc. by ear (and was also very boring).

Before taking Prof. Pearson's class, I didn't care much for classical music. However, after learning more about those that created it, I find that I now have a greater respect. Learning that Mozart was a child prodigy, often compared to Michael Jackson was very enlightening. I recommend this class to anyone seeking to be more informed about music.

Didn't give due dates ahead of time about quizzes and didn't explain clearly that homework was due each day when the assignment said it was due on Sunday

Be prepared to identify 2, 4, 8, and 16-beat rhythms on your first listening quiz! Online class was clear and organized. Very manageable as an intersession course. I'm not a music person, but the content was interesting. Responses to emails were thorough and within a day or two.

The $80 online textbook is required if you want to pass. Don't expect any flexibility with extensions, I emailed him multiple times and he has either refused or outright not addressed it. He does not care if you fail or not, the man lacks empathy for students who are in tough situations!

This professor sets up a poor example of "homework assignments" and grades unfairly. There is not even a rubric and they are stingy with grades. There is only so much info I can get for an assignment based on dead people from 3 centuries ago.

This was honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. He was extremely rude, was never clear in his work, and on top of that he had the audacity to argue with me because I asked him to add a rubric to our paper. Don't take him if you can't handle a professor with a “I'm the boss” mentality.

The assignment instructions in this class are often confusing. Additionally, the instructor doesn't properly review forum entries and frequently miscounts them, leading to grading issues and no feedback. The course also relies on an expensive CENGAGE online book platform, which costs around $100.

Not really a stand out class and Professor Pearson was somewhat curt in emails but the online class was basically just a discussion and a test that you couldn't fail every week. Even if you don't care about music you could probably pass.

As long as you do your work you'll pass YOU DO NOT NEED THE TEXTBOOK FOR THIS COURSE I passed with an 85% without it. Assignments are 1 disscusstion post (no word count) & 1 quiz a week There's only 1 paper throughout the entire semester so the work is light
