Glen is probably the most demanding prof I've had, but also the most helpful. I have learned more in his class than in any other class I've taken. He's a great guy to talk with too.

Probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. He explains everything perfectly.
don't put up any metirals and hard to follow~~~!!
Glens seems to like the "power" of his position.
Most boring teacher ever at U of O, still even after 4 years
lectures were clear and a little boring but he wasnt the most personable professor
He has high standards but helps you meet them, which I really like. I felt like I got my moneys worth.
Glen is not easy. He is a very difficult professor but if you are willing to put in the work he is willing to help guide you to the correct answer. He will help organize the class into groups and these will essentially become your study groups throughout the term. Don't take his upper-division courses and try and do them solo, it's just easier with some support. He is a little dry in his lectures and doesn't put anything online, so coffee and attendance are mandatory.
My favorite professor at the University of Oregon. Very acerbic.

boring lectures, stays on one topic and never moves on, easier to do the work yourself than listen to this guy, it also helps if the GTF is helpful to lessen the blow of not really having a professor
Dr Waddell cares about his students and how they do in the class. He really emphasizes intuition and I feel that I learned alot even though I only got a B. He also cares about students outside of class, which is nice. He really made me appreciate econ and he was the reason I switched my major.
I like him, enforces class ettiquete (did i spell that right?) Doesnt put up with ringing cell phones or people laughing away in their laptops. Very good at taking a very boring subject seem a lot less boring. Very helpful. If you HAVE to take EC 201, make sure he's teaching it.
I don't know what the Econ202 guy is commenting on... Waddell doesn't even teach 202. I know becasue I wanted to take it with him and he told me that he was not scheduled to teach macro. If he did teach it, I'd be there. He's the best prof I've had in three years.
He is a great teacher. He keeps describing the material until people stop asking questions. I think that this is great. He seems to be very boring, but you learn the material. He is really nice after class when asking him questions. The GTF never attended the lectures, and wasn't clear or even sure about what we were covering. I recommend Glen.
This teacher is extremely boring. Didn't learn anything from his class. Learned more from reading the book, but the book was useless too. There were too little practice questions. Overall, it is a very bad experience. Made me hate econ more than ever.
knows what he's teaching, but tests are pretty hard
I really enjoyed my class last term. Since then, I've spent the summer wondering if I should change my major to econ. If the rest of the econ department is at all like Waddell, I'd really be sold.
Glen's awesome. the class was really hard, but if you actaully try and put in the effort, he'll pick up on that and help you till the cows come home and you'll learn. really funny if you like dry humor. and no, he doesn't teach 202, he calls macro "a bunch of hand waiving."
monotone voice and dryness of subject made lecture VERY boring. I found the concepts of the class very confusing and poorly explained in lecture. He should have provided more resources for teaching the material, especially considering that people learn in different ways. a long powerpoint lecture doesn't cut it for everyone. nice guy though.
I took this class last term. He was a bit dull but his lectures were interesting and comprehensible. The exams were a bit tough but my advice is to see him or your GTFs during office hours if you have any questions about the class; both will gladly help you. We hardly used the textbook but they are helpful.
knows his stuff.
Waddell is great. I so wish I had him in principles. I'm sitting with someone who did and she had such a strong start in econ and she thinks it has helped her in all of her classes. He's funny, too, in a smart way.
Liked him for IO, however found that his system of standardizing the grades and dropping an assignment in labor econ was irritating. Lots of inconsistancies in the grading, which may or may not be his fault. Don't think i'll be taking any more classes from him as the grading system in labor econ was incredibly frusturating.
WORST prof ever. Does not post notes online, yet blazes through enormous amounts of information in one lecture. He doesn't recommend a text and therefor you have NO REFERENCE to help you out for the tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM, CHOOSE ANOTHER PROF!!
Glen is fantastic. He is fair and pushes anyone who is willing to learn as far as he can in 10 weeks. Those who aren't willing to invest shouldn't take his classes as he has a strange ability to target attention to those who are putting time in themselves.
Very inconsistent with lectures, very hard to study for his tests, assignments, etc. Nice but I'd recommend a different instructor if possible.
Without a doubt the best professor I have had at this university. This class is difficult content and requires a lot of time. Effort is required to succeed. He is very efficient with class time..the most I have ever learned in a single economics class. Thought he was great and helpful.
Waddel is an interesting kind of teacher. He teaches mainly on logic and ideas of micro rather than textbook tterms and memorization. I didn't open a book once but the only reason I got a decent grade is because a friend is 4.0 student that ai could study with.
goes off on tangents that do not pertain to the class. unclear about what he is teaching. at the beginning of class basically tells his students that he knows 2/3 of them will fail because they are stupid, great guy :)
The class was pretty easy, if you remembered just a little bit of calc. The prof thought pretty highly of himself, which I thought was weird since he was obviously nowhere near the top in the econ dept especially in research I heard
I despise economics, but Waddell made the class somewhat interesting. I have no interest in econ so I never did well on the tests but he curved the class so much, I somehow managed to pull through with a B. Lectures are not posted so you should go to class. No textbook, no homework, and discussion is not even required. It's your own effort.
he was a really good professor. he is really clear with his power points that basically sums up the entire lecture. he posts the powerpoints online for you to study from. attendance is not mandatory for anything except for the mid terms and final. could be better about giving a study guide. but if you understand the lecutres, you will do fine
Does not explain stuff well. States the obvious over and over again.
best prof ever!!! take him!
He is an arrogant teacher who doe snot transfer the material well to his students. He is more about telling stories and giving examples than actually teaching the basics of ECON, which are needed. Also, he gives you no textbook to reference when you don't understand his lecture. Avoid him if possible.
I hated this teacher. There was something about him that I could not stand and I never went to class. The only way I got a B- was because of the huge curve and because everyone failed the final as well. He is not helpful and does not explain the material well. I liked my GTF way better.
I did not enjoy his lectures at all. They were boring and hard to understand what he was talking about. I do not recommend taking a class from him.
Didn't like him at all. Very boring. Had a lot of trouble staying on topic, and used a lot of irrelevant examples. Would have liked it if he had actually used a textbook. Always seemed arrogant. The only way I learned in this class was to write down the terms he mentioned and research them for myself. I love econ, and he almost ruined it for me.
Glen Waddell is the worst professor I've ever had at the University of Oregon. His smug arrogance about his profession ruined ECON for me. His lectures consisted of rants about obscure examples that were irrelevant to the material. He has misleading study guides, and tries to use sophisticated language to make Econ seem more difficult than it is.
These comments are so pathetic and aren't at all what I experienced. I actually did go to class, and probably learned something every single time I was there. 40 percent get As or Bs, which is the department's expectation.
It's a shame that someone gets the reputation of a hard ass when he only demands what other professors should. I wish I could have taken more of his classes, as I feel like I've actually learned something for once.
Lectures are fine but it's really hard to study the material. The optional book wasn't helpful. The tests are hard and I feel like they're not reflective of knowledge of the material. The midterm was better than the final. The final felt unnecessarily hard. I studied a lot yet felt I did poorly. Luckily he has a good curve. Least enjoyed econ class
I know many people who enjoyed him he could have done somethings to make his class better.A book is important to have because not everyone can learn the way he wants all to learn,by going to lecture.I attended everyone of his lectures took pages of notes, payed attention to his facebook page and went to every lab but didnt learn enough to pass
He's a great prof and very knowledgeable. Does a great job explaining how everything works and relates. His tests are hard but fair. They require you to think beyond solving equations and regurgitating HW to show you really know the material. He doesn't require a book but lists texts for those who learn better by reading. My favorite prof so far.
He definitely knows what hes talking about, very smart guy. He doesn't require a textbook, everything you need to know is learned during lecture. One great thing about him is he doesnt put foreign material on exams, what you learn in class is what will exactly be on the tests. I highly recommend taking him for Econ 201, I wish he taught 202!
He was a smart guy and he was pretty fair in that what was on the test was lectured on in class, pay attention and you should be okay. Can be kind of boring, but everything he says is mostly relevant to the class and the tests. No homework or textbook, all tests with extra credit assignments.
Awesome. Even in a huge class, he calls on people, waits them out, tells them when they're right, and corrects them when they're wrong. Runs a facebook page and posts questions and discusses answers.
He's not a good choice for students who don't want to work hard. If you do though, I can't image a better professor. Initially I was intimidated, but when I talked with him I realized that he just wanted me to think for myself and was giving me room to make mistakes before just telling me what I wanted to hear. His has changed the way I think.
Glenn is one of the best Econ prof's I have had. He only gave us a final, but worked with us to get through our assignments. He made sure everyone could grasp what we were doing a kept us up to date with developing Economics.
I absolutely hated this class. Lectures were so boring and we didn't learn half of what the other econ classes did. His tests are on random examples he gives during lecture and other stuff we hadn't even learned in class. Class average for the final was a 55%.... DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Worst class I've taken at U of O so far. Glen is such a boring teacher and goes off on very long tangents on minutia that is not relevant to tested material. There are only three grades for the class, two midterms and a final. The midterms were difficult and the final was impossible. The class average for the final was a 55%. AVIOD IF POSSIBLE!
May be the class I remember ten years from now.
Would recommend if you have prior econ experience. He covers content fast, but if it is review for you it is not hard. No text book, but powerpoints are detailed instead. He doesnt cover the full ppt, so the reading is in there. Not necessary to read or go if you are competent in econ. Section is optional too.
do extra credits
I think he's great. Hes hard but also teaches so well.
Not a bad class by any means, but it feels like more of a basic entry level class. Doesn't get too deep into any material and it wont take a lot of you time outside of class if you grasp concepts easily.
He seems very knowledgeable in his materials and have a high expectation on his students too. Exams are very tough and most of them are outside of his lecture materials. He did not teach much but require you to know a lot. Recommend to those who has previous understanding on this materials. Don't expect to understand anything without studying.
Pros: little material to memorize, requires a lot of effort Con:No drop-in office hours, no textbook which is very relevant to the class materials, is an "answers" based grader, loves vague and "trap" questions, sparse slides, does not give back assignments/test during class, sparse lectures, loves questions that are outside the scope of lectures
He expects students to come to office hours for help yet has no drop in hours. Asks questions outside the lectures. Honestly one of those teachers who gives you a hammer and some wood then asks you to build a house.
Glen is an AWESOME guy and professor. His lectures were super fun and he was hilarious. Absolutely no homework so your grade is based solely on two exams. Exams are fairly basic but your grade is depending on only that. Would recommend this professor.
He uses rich relevant examples, and pushes your thinking
Great lectures, moves a a fast pace, but it is an Executive MBA level course so appropriate given our positions. Learnd more in these few weeks than I thought possible.
This is one of the best classes I have taken. Based his course material solely on lectures, so there isn't a whole lot of outside material assistance, however this means that what you see in the lectures is what you get tested on. He is a great lecturer and always had entertaining classes. Take time to talk to him and introduce yourself.
The content that Glen's class covered wasn't difficult by any means, but it overall seemed like he wanted beginners to unnecessarily squirm. Tests were fairly basic, but without homework and practice, there was a general confusion surrounding expectations. He was not transparent with his grading criteria at all - your final grade is a surprise!
Glen is incredibly smart and making introductory level courses a little rough. He's lectures are very engaging but there's no homework to practice the concepts. He likes to make you think and work for the correct answer. If you want an easy A, find a different professor. Glen wants you to actually learn. no textbook required: recommend getting one.
Awesome professor
Drones on and on in the lectures and unfortunately there is no book to learn from outside the class. He can be insulting and condescending to anyone he doesnt see on his level. Cant think of a worse attitude to have in a professor. The only professor in my 3 years here that I wouldnt recommend.
If you need a schedule or out of class supplements like a textbook, readings or videos, do not take this class with him. Grades are 2 midterms, a final, and 4 1% extra credit short essays. I found myself really struggling without any extra guidance outside of class. Decent lectures and he posts all slides. If you can DIY through a class, its okay.
I thought he was abrasive and condescending until he personally helped me and I realized he does REALLY care about his students (he will straight up tell you he does not). I struggled with a lot of the concepts after midterm 1 - you NEED to go to EVERY class, or fail. His lectures are amazing and never boring, partly because you'll be scared.
Awesome professor, really want the students to think more about reality rather than books
super condescending and doesn't want you to succeed
I was worried going into the class but it quickly became my favorite class. His lecture style is engaging and understandable. Be prepared to take notes and to study hard for tests. Tests are the only source of points for your grade.
He was a solid professor given class was on zoom. No textbook or videos so all learning was based on in class discussion. Very well prepared and works with you.
He never responded to my email, refused to say final exam times on zoom or post them on Canvas, and loves to hear himself talk.
This was one of my least favorite classes to take. He doesn't respond to emails and when asking for my G.E.'s email because for some reason it wasn't on the syllabus, he still didn't reply making it super difficult to find help. Unless you already love econ, his lectures are hard to understand. Only thing graded are the the tests(super hard)
Cant express how unhelpful he was to me, hes terrible with responding, communicating and has a condescending attitude.
Best professor I've had in a while, cares a lot about students and that they actually learn something. He will not assign useless homework or busy work and clearly knows that students have a life outside of school. Definitely take a class with him you won't regret it!
He clearly cares about his work, but his lectures are extremely dry and hard to pay attention to. He has too much attitude for me and can be rude. He seems to assume his students know much more than they do and doesn't help with fundamental ideas by jumping straight into confusing specifics.
Easily one of my favorite professors so far. Really cares about his students and what he teaches. Only gives HW when necessary, grades easily but there are few assignments. Appreciates when students go the extra mile and participate (ex camera on, talk in class). Overall intelligent, great guy, would not hesitate to take a class from him again!
Professor Waddell changed the way I think of scientific studies and how bias permeates even when it is not intended. Great professor, he does not assign work which he does not deem necessary in order to reach his final goal, which is teaching the student about making educated decisions with data.
This professor stated in his first week teaching that he does not care about his students he only cares about the content of the class. Horrible attitude, unprofessional and seems to be intentionally confusing during his lectures assuming everyone knows what he's talking about. He gives no study guides and little to no help to concerned students.
No office hours, vague and very dry lectures. Unless youre very good at econ, I would avoid his 400 level classes or youll be met with a lot of questions and confusion with minimal help front when professor.
Unless you are previously pretty knowledgeable in Econ/ can learn material well on your own, DO NOT take his class. The only grades are tests and there are no study guides or outside help. My G.E said deliberately in class before the first midterm that he gave her no problems or even an idea as to what would be on the test. Set up for failure.
Glen is the type of professor who you can tell really loves their job and he's got a great sense of humor. Lectures are very entertaining because he goes very in-depth on the topics he's discussing; however, the only source of info he uses is the lectures so it's important to attend as many classes as you can.
This professor is very nice, funny and happy to help. There are only two midterms and a final exam. There is an option for four extra credit assignments worth 1% each. The lecture notes get posted after class every day so attendance is not really mandatory. The curve makes it so that 55% of the class gets A's and B's.
He's a super engaging lecturer but doesn't provide a lot of info on the basics behind the concepts he teaches in class. This is an intro level class but he teaches it like everyone has previous econ knowledge. he also just has a super pretentious attitude and likes to remind everyone that half the class will fail every single lecture.
Two midterms and a final are the only grades in the class, with four extra credit opportunities worth one percent each. Posted slides have minimal information, so going to class is very helpful. 55% of the class automatically gets A's and B's due to his curve policy, so show up to class and you will do fine.
He knows what he's talking about. A good professor but to get a good grade you really have to remember the content.
You can tell Glen is passionate about what he is teaching, yet he doesn't really teach anything. Automatically 55% of the class gets either an A or B, making your likelihood of receiving a good grade pretty high. Be aware that he gives legitimately NOTHING out so tests you have nothing to go off of. Tests aren't impossible, definitely go to class.
I loved this class, it was really interesting and his lectures were really fun. Your whole grade is based off of 2 midterms and 1 final. Final was really difficult so take the midterms seriously and do all the extra credit that's available. 55% of the class automatically gets an A or B, heavy curve. I would recommend this teacher and course.
He's a funny guy but tests are very hard.
Dude is a legend. Your entire grade is just tests which works well for me. No HW or any other assignments besides 4 optional extra credit ones. He gave great feedback after each test and told you about your standing in the class. Highly recommend taking his class he keeps it interesting you never know where he is gonna take the lecture.
Grading was based on two midterms and one final so to succeed in Glen's class you need to be a good test taker and study before exams. Thats the only downside. He's super funny, there's no hw and he explains material well.
No homework, and you have to go to every single lecture to pass. He did great lectures but if you don't show up you are not passing.
Begins the term by telling the class 50% of students will fail as if proud of that number, red flag. The class is graded on 3 tests, with no study material besides his slide presentations. He also has little to know communication with his TAs. NO COMMUNICATION = BAD PROFESSOR. The demand for study materials is high, where's the supply Glen?
Bragged about how many kids were going to fail his class in about 4 of his lectures this term. Never gives clear answers it always "depends." Lectures are hard to understand and without any out of class assignments its almost impossible to retain the information. Only reason I can hold my weight is due to what I learned in 12th grade economics.
He brags about how half the class will fail because "that just how econ is", he doesn't give anything in terms of study material except his slides, he posts his review slides less than 12 hours before the test, and I emailed him 3 days ago asking for review help for the midterm, and he STILL has yet to respond. Just a terrible class.
One of my favorite classes so far. Found it easiest to not take many notes and just engage in what he's saying in class. If it's hard, you are probably play games during the lecture. The whole grade is just 3 tests, which is nice because I spend little to no time studying or doing work during the week. Hardest part of tests is the wordings.
This entire class is based on your 2 midterms and your final. If you don't go to class you won't pass, even if you do go to class you'll probably fail. There's no homework and no participation. He curves the midterm and your final grade so you can probably pass if you're smarter than me.
I cannot begin to explain how much I've hated this course. Professor Waddell has made a simple class of economics much harder than I ever thought possible. The entire class is based on two midterms and a final. The way he grades makes it impossible to have a prediction of your class grade until after the final. Good luck.
He's a red flag. Don't. He is against A+ and brags about # of people that will fail the class. The lectures are soul-crushingly boring, even if you try you can't pay attention. Also, don't cheat, this term he is nullifying the grades of everyone that cheated in the canvas midterms and final - which are the only thing the grade is based on.
Besides incredibly boring lectures and teaching content that isn't exactly applicable to other econ classes, glen is fine. if you pay attention and engage with his study guide/go to discussion you'll be fine. does brag about how half the class will fail, but class gets curved by basically a whole letter grade. an alright class at best
Glen had a monotone voice so its hard to pay attention the entire time. Grade is only based on 2 midterms and a final DONT cheat you will get caught. Dont worry if you fail after the winter final I had a 64% after the curve my final grade was a B+ so its very helpful! If you dont go to lecture though expect to fail the tests, unfortunately reality.
incredibly boring, but curriculum is easy if you spend the enough time with it. 3-4% extra credit, and class curved heavily. had a 79.9, was curved at least 13% to an A. majority of GEs were useless, and textbook was never used.
Doesn't give any homework. Basically just have to go to the lectures and you'll do fine. Only graded on 2 midterms and a final but they aren't too difficult. Class is curved. If you give any bit of effort can get an A- easily.
Brags about how hard his classes are and doesn't provide any resources to students to better understand the content. The content is extremely boring, and his lecture style does not improve it. He is not engaging whatsoever and speaks in a very monotone voice. I had to take this class as a prereq for my major and would not recommend taking it at all
Lectures are pretty boring but is really the only way to get the information for the class. The midterm and final make up your whole grade which is a little annoying but there is a heavy curve. Do the extra credit and study for the tests and you will do fine. Also have of the tests are the same questions from the practice sets so study those
Goes way more in-depth during lectures than most other professors. Doesn't just read off of slideshow and is a really engaging speaker. No homework was assigned. After going to every class, nothing on the exams was surprising or new. Very straightforward but also super interesting class. Would definitely recommend.
I won't lie, this class was a little difficult. However, you get out what you put into it. By showing up, studying hard, and preparing for exams, you can succeed. It does take work. His tests are structured so that you actually have to know and understand the content, not just memorize graphs or situations in class. Don't be too scared.
Teaches as if we already know anything about ECON. Do not take this class it is based off of 2 midterms and a final that are extremely hard. Lectures for an hour and 20 minutes and yet you leave not even knowing what he's talking about. The final is literally 40 % of your grade so if you don't do well on that your in trouble.
His lectures are so boring he talks in metaphors that make no sense and aren't related to the topics of the lecture. The office hours are SUPER helpful and I HIGHLY recommend going before every midterm. Discussion was attendance optional.
Your grade is only made up of two tests and a final so it is hard to do good, which Waddell constantly says. He is very unapproachable and will not respond to any of your emails at all. All emails go through the TAs, and I found them to be unhelpful as well. I also found Waddell's teaching style to be lazy. Do not recommend this class.
Recommend taking this class with a different teacher.
Don't take this class with this professor. Half of his lectures are useless information that doesn't matter for grading. The only things you are graded on are midterms and a final. Even if you focus in class, the material doesn't translate well to exams. The median on midterm 1 was a 29/50. It is a miracle people are passing this course with him.
Overall a great professor who really cares about his students' success. He does not give out homework although you are only graded on the two midterms and final. They are not hard if you take the time to take good notes and study for at least an hour or two. The discussion sections help a tremendous amount as well. open note tests and curved.
Most boring lectures in a monotone voice. Slides don't help at all, taught using examples/metaphors. No homework, so your grade is truly determined by how you do on midterms and finals. BEWARE that midterm questions have MULTIPLE correct answers, but only ONE "right.", so good luck. Would 100% not take his class again.
Do not recommend Glen as a teacher at all. He is arrogant and condescending. Refuses to answer emails and is extremely boring to listen to. 3 tests determine class and everyone fails. Doesn't provide resources. If you're not locked in you're bound to fail because he prays you do. DO NOT TAKE GLEN'S CLASS IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT MICROECONOMICS.
Very boring, but not nearly as hard as others make it out to be. Midterms and exams are open note
Professor Waddell is not a good teacher. The entire class grade is based on 3 tests where the class average is 60percent. The Midterms are wordy and hard to understand. Lectures are painfully boring with time inching forward.
This was my least favorite class here at UO so far. It is literally Econ 201 and is taught like we all already have knowledge on the subject, using confusing and unnecessary examples/metaphors that did the opposite of what the professor intended. Plus, this way of teaching is so boring, making it feel longer than my 1 hour 50 minute lectures.
This class was literally a yap sesh, that's the best way to describe it. The entire class is based on 3 exams, and so much of what professor Wadell talked about did felt unnecessary with what we were learning. The majority of the class bombs his exams and are left praying to be saved by the curve.
I honestly don't know how this guy is still employed at the University of Oregon. He gave awful lectures, was horrible at explaining concepts, and would give terrible responses to students questions in lectures. I tried to ask the GE's for help with some practice questions given out by Waddell and they couldn't even agree on a correct answer.
This professor is awful. He acts like he's superior to his students and is very condescending to people who ask questions. His GE's couldn't even agree on answers to his practice tests and it's impossible to use his slides to study for exams. There's no HW and Everyone fails his tests so he curves to make up for his poor teaching. don't recommend
Do not take Econ 201 with this professor. He is terrible. The Ges were unhelpful. Their was no homework and grading was based off two midterms and the final. Professor Glen Waddell does not know how to teach, and he has a crazy Superiority complex. He should quit teaching and start a podcast to help students fall asleep.
Lectures felt very long to sit through and didn't make a lot of sense. Discussion leaders were not treated well by professor and the study guides the professor gave out, he refused to tell the GEs the correct answers so we had to work through the problems with them in office hours. Class was hard but curved heavy
Lectures are long, but I found them somewhat engaging and interesting. If you are not interested in course material, this will be a tough class which he makes quite clear day one. Graded on two midterms and a final test only with a heavy curve applied to both. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT.
Great Professor if you choose to do well. His lectures are cut and dry and full of information. He doesn't require a textbook and everything you need to know for the class comes from him. He's really good at explaining economic theory if you pay attention. Only 3 thing in the gradebook are midterms and final. Study and the curve will get you.
Took EC201, was a giant mistake. There was NO TEXTBOOK, 3 tests were worth 80% of the grade and he made them unnecessarily long with multiple word problems. He curved tests and had reviews in discussion sessions but lectures were long and he over-explained everything. DON'T take this class if you want a good GPA.
His class is very formulaic. He talks for hours. He gives overly complicated tests on what he talks about. Willing to meet outside of office hours but not willing to make appropriately hard tests. Instead makes tests no one can pass and then grades them on a curve. Class average was 60% which says something about how he is teaching.
Professor lectures can be dry, but if you stay engaged and use resources like Unstuck ai for study prep, you can do well. No textbook required - just focus on mastering the concepts. Graded on midterms and final with a heavy curve.
Econ 300 level credit, Attendance is not mandatory, there was only a few assignments graded. Lectures were fun and informative. He grades on a curve so 55% of the class (including people who dropped) get a B- or better. Quizzes are very similar to material reviewed in class, not showing up and reviewing slides will not get you a B or better.
Glen is a nice but very straightforward, no-nonsense professor, always available to help with questions or rephrase ideas, even during the exams. The class is incredibly easy/manageable if you show up and/or have a general idea of what is happening. The tests and assignments are focused on general application, not specifics, to boost your grade.
Dry lecturer, poorly-constructed canvas page, but canvas problem will be fixed, I believe. A decent guy generally, but pray you don't catch him on a bad day; he can get extremely, unprofessionally snarky. Stay on his good side and try to pay attention if you must take his class.
I really don't get the low ratings for this guy, yes the only grades were tests but Econ is a hard class, you don't have to go to class and his lectures get boring but he gives you 20% of the test answers beforehand. Class felt very fair to students who wanted to succeed.
The only graded materials for this course is your midterms and final exams. No homework, no mandatory attendance, and 4 extra credit options. I thought I'd like this until I had no idea what I needed to study for by the time midterms came around. Genuinely grind if you want to pass this class, if not he's ok with you getting D's and F's.
The only grades you will receive in this class are from 3 tests. There is no homework which sounds nice in theory but you have no way of gauging how well you are learning the material. He is such a slow talker and dims the lights in the lecture putting half the class to sleep.
Does not convey material clearly at all. Overcomplcates basic material. Very unreasonable guy. Entirety of grade relays on midterms and final.
Generally just lazy, he complicates simple concepts and isn't mentally flexible enough to actually listen to what questions he's being asked. He seems petty and overly convinced of his own brilliance. Be careful not to challenge him on anything he will punish you for it. He only sites his own lecture notes making things more difficult
Be mindful that this class is only graded based on 3 exams. Attendance is not mandatory but if you want to learn the material you should go to class since there is no homework and no textbook. Occasionally I felt like the way he explained things was confusing, but mostly he was very clear. He is dry but he can be very entertaining.
I think there's something wrong with this guys. He wants to move back to Canada and he should
I just don't think he understanding the basic fundamentals of education. He teaches in a very Socratic method, I have to assume because it's easiest for himself. He genuinely doesn't care if you learn or not and makes no effort to improve his teaching methods based on best practices. He's very sensitive and will punish you if you challenge him.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this professor. Too many issues to list here. So many red flags. I did ok in the class but I can't recommend him he's just too unstable.
Only three grades are 3 exams. Also, everyone cheated on first two so the curve was terrible for the people who didn't cheat. Third exam everyone bombed and the curve saved everyone. Super hard class though wouldn't take it.
You either love or hate the guy. Class is graded off 2 Midterms and a final, no attendance required and no homework. Cool guy knows his stuff and a great guy to talk to and learn from. Tests were hard but generous curves. Midterms were online until too many people cheated so final was on paper.
I wouldn't expect to really learn anything. If you are fortunate you will gain a degree of insight into the mind of a Greg.
Prof Waddell is great and I think he explains Ec 201 in a really understandable way, his lecture slides are organized but he does tend to talk a lot. If you want an A, go to class and stay the whole time, and go to discussion as well. Your grade is based only on 2 midterms and a final but he gives example questions and the GEs supply even more.
I read the reviews on this page before taking this class, and wasn't feeling great about it going in. I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging and interesting Waddell's lectures were. The only 3 things in the gradebook are the 2 midterms and the final, but there is a curve. He explained and taught the content in really helpful ways.
I cannot say this enough, Attend Office Hours! His class is graded on 3 things, 2 midterms and a final, asking questions in office hours helped me understand his material much easier. Also be sure to do all 4 extra credit assignments, it will help your grade majorly in the end. The class is curved
Avoid this professor, test are curved because no one does well. He doesn't really teach, he or listen to questions. Very easily offended.
There's no way other than his way. Pretentious in my opinion, class was dull.
Only graded on 2 midterms and Final Exam, No homework and just reads off dull slides and graphs. Imo it's impossible to learn without homework or any other way to learn instead of just looking at slides.
As others have said, incredibly pretentious. Just lectures all class. His canvas page provides next to no support for students. He grades homework as harsh as he can, and he has to curve all the exams because no one does well enough.
Full of himself and thinks he is much smarter than he really is haha. Really shows itself when he tries to overcomplicate a simple course such as intro to micro. Really do not know how he has a teaching job, he would be better suited in an office somewhere doing taxes or something.
Lectures were very hard to listen to without falling asleep and he explains things terribly. He will overcomplicate even the simplest of concepts and just make them harder to understand. The class is only graded on two midterms and a final which everybody does poorly on. My GE was also useless.
I don't think microeconomics should be this hard. I showed up to every lecture and tried to understand what he was saying, but I was always so lost. It's also really hard to understand the material when there are no assignments given, and it's just lecture + tests, and that's it. I only passed because of all the curves.
